Speaker 2 (00:19):
Right.

Speaker 1 (00:22):
And don't think I'm gonna be here sitting like a
sad panda all day because I'm not the Yankee stink.
They didn't deserve to win. I tip my hat even
though I'm not wearing one to the Toronto Blue Jays
because they play a better brand of baseball. That's where
I signed up to watch. And when I was a kid,
when I invested in this game that I love, it

(00:42):
was called baseball and there was fundamentals and there was
things involved. And the Yankees abandoned all of that just
to swing in the air and whiff and miss and
go for home runs. And that's not baseball.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
That's my failure.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
It may have worked a few years ago, it doesn't
work anymore. I'm sick of it. I'm done with it.
And uh and now I'm gonna pap I was gonna
say that I'm not sad. I'm not sad. In fact,
I'm rocking out. Let's go. Well, you know what, before
we get into today's show, speaking of your Yankees, Uh, flatty,
Guerrero wanted to chime in and say, what's up.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
Yankee, let's go, let's go baby, So that's disrespectful.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
Second of all, didn't we say yesterday we hate n
force me to do this with Florida from Good Times?
I mean, is that big Poppy? You're gonna ras me
with Guerrero and I could be hearing Big Poppy. That
was a cool baseball moment.

Speaker 4 (01:49):
Yeah, Rich, wait until your mets are out of Uh yeah, please?

Speaker 1 (01:54):
But you know what it post is a great question
we're gonna get to in a few minutes and it's
a simple now what so we're gonn you get to that.
A lot of NFL gonna talk today about Jackson Dart.
We're gonna go old school and fifty hits. We are

FSR doing live so action packed show gram program where
the pros in the Gram.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
We have a producer, Danny G. What up, Danny G.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
Y Your dayers looked like cheeks last night?

Speaker 2 (02:34):
Yeah they did.

Speaker 4 (02:35):
I'm the Phillies are We know they're a good team, obviously.
Why yeah, why we acted like they weren't going to
go out being swept. I didn't think that.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
I'm not saying that to Razu. They still play another day.
I'm just saying they look like like buns.

Speaker 4 (02:49):
I'm not super confident about today's game. By the way,
they're gonna be playing in the shadows. Ah, well, yeah,
that's true.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
With a good picture going for the Phillies.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
Yep, it's still like to expect your team to sweep everyone,
Like did you think Schwarber was just gonna stop hitting
home runs? And you think the Phillies good starting pitching
was just gonna stop like the Dodgers, you know, are
not the home team in the series. You know, there's
a lot of great teams this year, really good teams,
and the Blue Jays are one of them. Really good team.

(03:21):
Ernie Clement Lucas, these role players that's what baseball's about,
people stepping up. He can't win with just Aaron Judge
and swinging for the fences. So the teams that are
left right now are really great teams. So of course
the Phillies are gonna take one. And they left kershaw
And way too long yesterday. We agree on that. But
the Dodgers do face challenges today. Danny G made a

(03:43):
hometown point here. Dodgers Stadium wasn't meant for day games
in October like this, so a lot of shadows they're
gonna have to battle. But still it's gonna be a
fun one to watch today. Iowa Sam is here, Dan
Bayer's here, Spotty's here, and again we're coven On Rich,
We're year here. My team's out. I'm a Yankees fan.

(04:03):
Now what I'm bitter. I'm in that bitter stage of
like Scoot him, I wasted my whole year.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
I hate him.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
I'm never gonna watch ever. But they don't deserve to win. Riches,
Mets are out, Mariners, Brewers be still happy, Danny G's
still happy. But my question is this, when your team
is out, I'm not saying do you pull another rooting interest,

(04:28):
but if you're a sports fan, you still want to
like watch or not? Do you pow like I'm not watching,
so the season's over for you? Are you really a
sports fan if that's your angle here? So rooting's not
the word rich. It's almost like, do you pull for
someone else or is there a storyline that is automatically

(04:49):
the default? Like is the storyline the Brewers then? Because
no one expected them to win, they're a young team.
I mean, I think there's two ways to go about it.
I mean, your team's out of it. I have friends
that at this point say I'm done watching, and you
have other friends for me, sure you have other friends
that are like, dude, it's a postseason. What do you

(05:09):
mean you're not watching? I think what you do when
your team is out of it, you don't jump on
a bandwagon. But I think what you do is you, uh,
you step on one you don't need to. You don't
ever claim to be a fan of that team. But
right now, as a Mets fan, they failed to make
the post postseason. They stink. But if I said, you
know what, cal Rawley's having a magical year, I do

(05:32):
like everyone on that team. It's a really likable team.
They've never won before. Maybe I'll pull for the Mariners.
Maybe you root for a good pal like Dan Byer
and say, you know, hey, Man Brewers, Cheerio terrang Rich.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
Wouldn't you chair for your kids favorite team?

Speaker 5 (05:49):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (05:49):
You did the Dodgers. And by the way, we live
in Los Angeles, right, So that's also another angle here.
The question is if your team's out, do you tune out?
Is that the only way.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
To do this?

Speaker 1 (06:01):
Or as a sports fan, do you say And let's
make it very clear, Rich, you said it, but I
want to reiterate. We're not saying all of a sudden,
you're a fan of that team, get out of here.
That's garbage. That's garbage, Basuda, that's trash. But so do
you now pull for another team? Because that's what you're
left with? So all right, my team couldn't win. Let
me be the bigger person, and I'm going a roof

(06:23):
for my buddies team.

Speaker 6 (06:23):
Right.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
I've heard I like this team. They really play good ball,
they deserve it. Like, where does your maturity levels go
in this case? And that's what I'm trying to figure
out today because the Yankees are fresh out of it
and that's what's on my mind? I'm like, well, man,
this season's been popping. We've been saying it all season, right,
Danny g baseball popping, Babebook, guess what. Our team's out,

(06:44):
but it's still popping.

Speaker 4 (06:45):
So now what we're going the pre show meeting, Rich said,
it's only popping if my team's still in it.

Speaker 1 (06:50):
It's only it's only popping to me. But I'm still watching.
I don't know, man, it's still electric all the games yesterday.
There's an intensity level that we haven't seen in a
long time. Well not with my Yankees, of course, but
you know you're seeing some great baseball. So where do
you go? Where does your mindset go? And you know
I got my answers, Rich has his, but we want

(07:11):
to hear from you too. At eight seven, seven ninety
nine on Fox at Covino and Rich at Fox Sports
at Fox Sports Radio, Bark Sports Mark Sports. Yeah, next,
cut some forks sports radio guy. He came sports slide.
Can't let us slide.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
This guy cut him some slacked.

Speaker 1 (07:29):
He never bumbles and fumbles. Rich Davis, mister perfect?

Speaker 2 (07:33):
Did you call him a Clayshaw?

Speaker 7 (07:34):
The other day?

Speaker 1 (07:35):
Was that that's my pet name for.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
He's Richie Stumblebum.

Speaker 8 (07:39):
Hey, get off Rich's back. Okay, I'm a Rich Davis guy.

Speaker 1 (07:42):
Yeah, seriously, oh man, we all has no respect for
Terang and Cherio and all your players.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
Did you say Cheerios and Tang?

Speaker 1 (07:50):
That was like breakfast in nineteen ninety five, nineteen eighty five.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
Those are the only Brewers Rich knows, by the way,
and you.

Speaker 1 (07:57):
Know it's your maturity level go in this case. I
feel like I saw in my peripherals Dan Byer shaking
his head like, if my team's out, I tune out.
Is that true? I?

Speaker 2 (08:08):
Well, I do.

Speaker 8 (08:10):
But I actually think one of the great things about
being a sports fan is watching an event and having
a natural reaction to a game that you didn't know
that you were cheering for a certain team. You may
have no dog in the fight, yeah, but if you
sit down tonight and watch one of these two games,
there may be a team where obviously you're just like, yeah,

(08:30):
you know what, I kind of want the Brewers, Tom Win.
I love that about being a sports fan is you
go into a game thinking you don't care, and you
come out of it and you're like, why was I
rooting for that team?

Speaker 2 (08:39):
The whole time.

Speaker 1 (08:40):
Dude.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
I love that.

Speaker 1 (08:41):
And that's what I love about fighting, right, because there's
so many times in a preliminary fight or whatever, you're
watching two guys you don't really know, but by the
middle of that fight, you're pulling for somebody. Yeah, you're like, yeah,
I want that guy. And I love that About this
thought and about this theory, I'm gonna watch these games now,
I'm going to figure it out. So I'm thinking it's Brewers.

(09:04):
I really am he to get back in. How can
I root for the Dodgers? How can I root for
the Dodgers when they beat the Yankees in the World Series?
But then again, I live in La what's the mindset here?
But I do love that thought that Dan Bayer just shared,
and I expressed that when it comes to fighting, your
heart or your decision comes from the sense of they

(09:24):
got this underdog fight that I relate to, and I
want to see this guy win. You could feel that
way about a team you're not necessarily rooting for, but
now you're pulling for. So where do your rooting interests
go when your team is out? That's the question. Well,
some people go with the mindset of well, I'm just
going to root for a team that eliminated mind, which

(09:45):
I never got. But there are people that that's a mindset.

Speaker 2 (09:47):
But I don't like.

Speaker 1 (09:47):
That's not my mind. You heard how you started the show.
You want to rub it in with Laddie Guerrero, that Tobagoo?
You think I want to root for that guy after
he was taking the waz as they say overseas, taking
the waz on the Yankees get out of here.

Speaker 6 (10:02):
Come on.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
I think that mindset does't vibe with me. But there
are plenty of people that say, well, at least that
means we lost to the best. I don't get with that. Yeah,
I don't get with that. I'm a little spiteful team
or something. I don't know.

Speaker 4 (10:15):
Yeah, and you should have stepped up and beat the
best before they could have advanced.

Speaker 2 (10:19):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (10:19):
I like the style of ball, the style of play,
the heart, the contact, the never giving up in that bat,
slapping foul ball after foul ball, working the count, working
the picture. I love that about the Blue Jays. I
just don't like them. I'm an American League East fan.
There's no way room for the Blue Jays. So again, guys,
what do you do in these situations anti Canadian. Do

(10:41):
you have a formula or does it happen organically the
way Bayer described Damn Bayer describes something we've talked about
for years, which I'm great. I'm so glad he said
that because there have been so many times where you
are watching a fight. Fighting is the best example where
man don't got a horse in this race. By like
the sixth round, you're like, oh, I want this guy.
Can I tell you this to others? Like his attitude

(11:02):
or his hard or as fire you made. There's two
other instances where I feel like this is very present.
One's a little more controversial.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
Than the other.

Speaker 1 (11:12):
I feel like in dating, when you see like a
reality show, I know it's reality show, so relax, but
when a guy's choosing between two women, or a woman's
choose between a couple of dudes on the Bachelorette, there's
got to come a point where you're like, I like
them both. Something's gonna happen along the way. We're like,
all right, now that's the one. I'm There's something will

(11:34):
happen along the way when you're in a love triangle.
And I think about this in politics, I have you know,
there's plenty of people that love to say, Hey, I'm
down the middle, I'm you know, I'm not a Democrat
or Republican. On election night, your true feelings come out
because when someone's leading, you're either like oh or still
making a choice. Yeah, you're making a choice because on
election night, on election night, I guarantee you might have

(11:57):
said I'm Luke wh I lover hate Donald Trump.

Speaker 2 (12:01):
Who knows.

Speaker 1 (12:01):
I guarantee you on election night, when results start coming
back in, you have an opinion. I like the underdog stories,
I like the unexpected. But I'll make that choice. Maybe
tonight Philly's at Dodgers, Brewers at Cubs, and of course

(12:24):
you got your Thursday night football Eagles Giants, And I
will tell you this Rich. You know, from a professional standpoint,
guys like dB, especially guys like dB, he's your update guy.
He's the guy that has to know Covino and Rich
the shows here. We have to keep an eye on
what's going on, right and plus it's fun for us,

(12:46):
But where does the rooting interest really go here? The
game I got my eye on the most by far
is gonna be Brewers Cubs. The excitement we saw yesterday,
the fire we saw yesterday the storyline we've heard all
year about the Brewers, like are they the real deal?
You know they deserve it. Let's let this team win,
Let's see what happens. Let's show the world that it
doesn't have to be a giant market that takes it all,

(13:08):
like the good old fashioned baseball prevails and that's where
the game should be heading toward. And I think that
baseball could need that. So I'll be I'll be watching
that game to see if I could organically now say yeah,
I'm pulling for.

Speaker 2 (13:19):
The brew Crew, let's go.

Speaker 8 (13:20):
I'll also say this that I think Cavino is in
a unique situation where so the Mets lose, so Rich
turns his attention to the forty nine ers.

Speaker 2 (13:27):
You don't have an NFL, and don I have a team?

Speaker 1 (13:29):
Yes, I don't claim a team, right, So that's that's
also a very interesting situation. I actually thought about that,
you know, because a lot of people hit me up
last night, sorry about your team, man, And I think
a lot of people think I take it harder than
I do because it's my only team. That's really I
have New York buddies. Dan, It's so funny you say
that I have New York friends that are like, all right,
very Mets, let us down onto the Rangers and the Knicks. Yeah,

(13:53):
basketball and hockey era on the horizon, So there's something
to be said about that. I feel like I'm all alone. Now,
why are you miss Would you be inclined to if
they both advanced? Would you want to go Brewers Dodgers
out here? Go go check it out live? Or is
that something you like chilling at home for.

Speaker 8 (14:09):
I'd probably chill at home for. Yeah, they you know,
and they played in what was it twenty eighteen?

Speaker 2 (14:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (14:16):
I had a buddy who asked me, said I may
be able to get tickets, and I was like, yeah,
go And then I I don't know if I really
loved the idea. And then he said, I don't have
a ticket for you. So then I was like, oh,
I absolutely want to go.

Speaker 1 (14:30):
Exactly, How could you not root for a team that's
never won a World Series?

Speaker 2 (14:34):
They made it what in the eighties? Yeah, Cardinals, Caverinals.

Speaker 1 (14:38):
So that's the only team and that was what, like,
was that even Robin yell Era? Yeah, okay, so it
was Robin Era early Paul malodor Era of the Brewers.
They haven't seen the World Series since then, so that
the storyline alone is intriguing. What pulls you in? You
want to get more pulled in? Watch uh, put the
google this well, look up the speed that Jelich gave

(15:01):
to them. I love that the team. I sure that guy.
I think he's a great dude. I think he's a
great comeback story. He has a hot mom, Madam. We've
interviewed him. He's a likable guy. Yeah.

Speaker 8 (15:12):
I've always also felt that this is unfair because I
and I've said this on the show. I'm very unfair
to the Minnesota Twins because they won two World Series
titles right when I was in the in the prime
of loving sports, Like I remember World Series prior to that,
but when you're really grasping it, it was nineteen eighty seven.
I would have been ten at the time. Then they
went again in nineteen ninety one. I think the same

(15:33):
thing with the Blue Jays. I think the Blue Jays
are a great story, but there was a time that
you're thinking to come yes exactly the early nineties where
they were the team that got Jamal Joe not only
you couldn't beat, but they would get the best players.
Now the Brewers didn't treat Paul Malader great on the
way out. So he goes to Toronto and wins, and
maybe that would be a reason. But there were times
where the Brewers were battling in the Al East with Toronto,

(15:56):
like Toronto was a hated team to me, I didn't
like the Blue Jays'.

Speaker 1 (16:01):
Yes, over thirty years ago. It doesn't feel like it,
but it's over thirty years ago. Touch them all, Joe.
They go get Ricky Henderson, they get Roger Clemens. They
you know that that's a different world. You know, there's
one more Deem Hardison style, Kadem Hardison style.

Speaker 2 (16:14):
Different world.

Speaker 1 (16:15):
But there's one more layer to this question, and we'll
leave it to you Fox Sports Radio Nation. If you're
one of those, my team's out, so I tune out.
How about players we mentioned Yelich, right, good dude, he's
been the face of this organization now for a long time.
But on the flip side, what about guys like Bryce
harper Man like that guy.

Speaker 2 (16:36):
You're not rooting for a player like him?

Speaker 1 (16:37):
Bryce? Never one. Keep in mind the ball player faller,
he knows ball right. Want to see the DC And
then that's when the Nationals won, so Bryce is still
looking if you're not rooting for teams, and we're using
the term rooting loosely because we're not saying all of
a sudden you change an alliance or an allegiance to
a team. We're saying, just for the fun of watching.
Does your interest then turn to the players if you're

(17:00):
so against teams, because you know, I do watch football
in that way. I root for certain players, So maybe
players is the answer here. But I'll tell you what,
I'll make that choice tonight. My eye is on the
Brewers Cubs. We'll see what happens and enjoy it. If
your team's still enjoy it, mine's not. And I do
think Dan Bayer made a great point. You not having
an NFL team that you really claim is your own

(17:23):
keeps you a little more locked in, because I will say,
once the Mets were eliminated, focus it was like, all right,
I'm watching, but now like my main attention goes towards
the Niners.

Speaker 4 (17:32):
My teenagers do this a lot in the NBA. They
have favorite players like Steph and so they'll be sharing
during a Warriors game. But they're Laker fans. So this
generation right now, they follow different NBA players and dB.
I know there's some NBA news you wanted to hit. Yes,
you can have my breaking news sounder.

Speaker 1 (17:50):
Guys, breaking news from Fox Sports.

Speaker 8 (17:54):
A report from ESPN says Lakers forward Lebron James will
miss the next three to four weeks of action because
of sciatica on his right side.

Speaker 1 (18:02):
That's old guy stuff, such a back right right, that's
forty some of your old guy problems. That's not young
guy problems from hoisting hennessy.

Speaker 8 (18:16):
Have we ever seen sciatica in the parentheses of a
of an athlete before?

Speaker 1 (18:21):
Yeah, George Blando. It was an old report card, howe,
Who was it not Vita Blue who pitched satral page.
Then he pitched they say, like till he was way
older than they thought.

Speaker 2 (18:35):
So yes, I don't.

Speaker 1 (18:36):
I don't think we've seen sciatica. Inquitibit old. He's playing
in rock ports this season. Yeah, he's playing in old
sky shoes the Bronze. No, the Lakers have a dish
of Werthers at the end of the scores table.

Speaker 2 (18:50):
It's brand new.

Speaker 1 (18:52):
Yeah, that's you know what, Danny g That sucks though
for Lakers fans it does, and especially when you're hearing
all this other nonsense about Amazon Prime Day, and he's
promoting Hennessy and he's got his decisions, Like, yeah, dude,
you're not even playing. That's a letdown. I mean, I
know he can't control that, but that is sort of
a downer for anybody pumped about the season coming up
in a few weeks.

Speaker 4 (19:12):
By the way, Rich Satchel Page was fifty nine years old.
Oh man, Yes, his last season. Yeah, he doesn't throw
a powder anymore. It's metamucil. Yeah, that's a good one.

Speaker 1 (19:22):
I like. So, hey, the question, guys, your team is out,
do you tune out? What's your rooting interest? Just to
keep an eye on the game moving forward. I like
the underdog story, but I can't force that to happen.
When I say underdog, I mean the team that never won,
the Brewers, what about the Mariners. Mariners have never even

(19:43):
been to a World Series. I've never There's a lot
of leading looks. Yeah, there's a lot of great storylines,
a lot of great teams. I know why you don't
want the Maritals, and I'll tell you why. I know
the postseason doesn't matter with NBP voting, but I made
the analogy you know when you know, when you're in
someone's in and someone on the witness stand sets some
crazy stuff and the judge says, oh, strike that from

(20:05):
the record.

Speaker 2 (20:05):
But you're like, yeah, but we heard it.

Speaker 1 (20:08):
I know. Voting for MVP, you know doesn't count the postseason,
but if you see cal Raley keep going, it's gonna
be in all the voters heads. So you want cal
Raley out. That's part of it. Also, like you know,
I'd rather choose an NLP team, get the AL team
out of here. That's an AL fan than So now
we get to your phone calls, and remember old school
in fifty hits, we do it every Thursday. Let's just

(20:29):
say we're gonna talk old school television. So start thinking
about it. We'll talk some Thursday night football and more
right here on the Cavino and Rich Show. All right now,

A ha ha I go be he big poppy Oh
the Yankees lows, Hey, hey, hey, Doly, you know what,
I it's my guy.

Speaker 1 (21:53):
Hoally, here's my guy, go r away. They're going go
be he shut up, Poppy. It never seen a guy
so not care but care. At the same time Steve
Covino over here, I don't Danny g I don't know
who's crying more. And then on Love is Blind or
Steve Covino, you're gonna compare me to that guy on

(22:15):
Love is Blind?

Speaker 2 (22:16):
Get out of here? But I will say this, why
won't you get with me? I'd be holding him?

Speaker 1 (22:20):
Then that that FS one broadcast needs Poppy because he
brings the fund. But that's disrespectful to all the fans,
to Jeter to a rock Come on, they were laughing.
Not It's like that's like rubbing it in. Man, wasn't
get out of here?

Speaker 2 (22:34):
Such a job.

Speaker 1 (22:35):
You're such a lame o. I mean, honestly, Yankees had
one and all of a sudden, freaking sombreros on get
out of here. I think it's fun. Get out of here.
I see you in big poppy, get out of my face.

Speaker 2 (22:52):
So I'm glad you're over it.

Speaker 1 (22:54):
We're Covino Enrich live from the Fox Sports Radio studio.
And two reminders, we're gonna do old school win fifty hits.
So in twenty minutes we throw it back and reminisce.
We're gonna talk some TV. We'll explain, So start thinking
of some old school Let's say, start thinking some edgy
shows you grew up with, edgy shows you grew up with.
Think of how many Yankee fans drove home to their
mom's basement last night said see low blows, noves and

(23:20):
mom my laundry. Whatever we don't fit into today's show
is gonna be on over Promised. A brand new episode
drops today YouTube dot Com. Slash Covino and Rich FSR
join us live at four on the West, seven on
the East over promised episode one twelve Peaches and Cream
one twelve Today.

Speaker 2 (23:40):
I can tell you this.

Speaker 1 (23:41):
We're gonna talk is it cheating? Because today's anniversary of Cheaters?
Is it cheating? We're gonna go over the new rules
of cheating and who might be asked. I don't think
there's any surprise, but you'll find out on over Promise
later today. All right, let's go to our pal Dan
buy from up they Let's see what's going on dB AABB.

Speaker 8 (24:02):
Guys, the breaking news is that Lebron James is going
to miss the start of the regular season for the Lakers.
Is the forward is dealing with sciatica on his right side.
The timetable put out by ESPN is that it's a
three to four week injury three weeks from today as
the day before Halloween, which would mean Lebron would miss
the first five games of the season best case scenario,

(24:23):
if we are going by that timetable.

Speaker 2 (24:25):
He dead.

Speaker 8 (24:25):
Coach Eric Spolstro will take over as the head coach
of USA men's basketball as they get ready for the
World Cup in twenty twenty seven and the twenty twenty
eight Olympics here in Los Angeles. While the annual survey
by NBA dot Com of the league's general managers, eighty
percent of them pick the Thunder to win the NBA
title this season. Going back to back, Dodgers trying to

(24:46):
go back to back in baseball, they got a game
four to nine against the Phills six o'clock Eastern. Tom
Harrison Bader not in the lineup for the Phillies, Dodgers
replaced Tanner Scott he's out of the NLDS roster. Off
of that roster and now ineligible to be on the
NLCS roster. He's been replaced by Justin Robletski. Brewers in
cub's nine Eastern time. Brewers up to one in that series.

(25:07):
Former Red Sox outfielder Mike Greenwell died battles cancer, passed
away at the age of sixty two. Yes, wow, some
sad news there. Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson missed another practice
today because of a stray hamstring. Also no practice for
Cardinal's quarterback Kyler Murray and brock Perty not spotted a
practice for the Niners. Patriots corner Christian Gonzales limited in
practice with his hamstring injury. Eagles and Giants start week

(25:28):
six to nine, eight fifteen Eastern Time. Eagles man out
of Jalen Carter Carter. They've elevated defensive lineman Gabe Hall.
Carter's dealing with a heel injury. Nikobe Dean will play
for Philadelphia. Activated from the pup list, so the linebacker
expected to return tonight.

Speaker 1 (25:42):
Guys, back to you, Thank you, Dan Byron, Rest in peace.
Mike Greenwells, that's a legendary red sock. Legendary red sock
in that Ellis Burks era of baseball card collecting. And
how many how many Mike Greenwells did you have?

Speaker 2 (25:56):
For real?

Speaker 1 (25:57):
And you know, here's a fun fact that could beat
your one of those things that I never heard until recently,
but I read somewhere and it was probably a meme,
so it has to be true. But that we all
counted way too much on our Todd Van Poppel cards
to be worth something.

Speaker 2 (26:12):
No, that Mike Greenwell and Don Mattingly were cousins.

Speaker 1 (26:16):
Really, is that the same rumor? It was that in
the same rumor mill that uh leaping Lenny Popo and
Macho men we're brothers than they were. But they were brothers. Yeah,
they were brothers. They still are, I guess, but rest
in peace. Mike Greenwell definitely one of those legendary late
eighties early nineties big names for the Red Sox. As

(26:36):
we get closer to the NBA, we are going to
take your phone calls on the rooting interest. I had
a question for Dan Bayer as we do get closer
to the NBA, is this the year with a lot
of young talent? Now do you think dispersed take a
big step? By the way, they are not cousins, but
it is a rumor, simply two former Major League Baseball
players who played in the same era.

Speaker 2 (26:54):
But it says here they're related through family connections.

Speaker 1 (26:57):
That's yeah, so I knew. I how like how Well
Italian people call people their cousin when it's just like
a neighbor kind of yeah, but they had that connection.
I never knew that even as a Yankees that's my uncle?
Is it your uncle? Your dad's friend and my dad's friend,
but we call him uncle, you know, Uncle Richie. Is
this the year, guys that the Spurs take a big
step forward? I feel like it might be. I mean,
I know they're still very young, but now, I mean

(27:19):
now that Wimby's seven to five and they drafted that,
a lot of that, a lot of draft equity. Is
this the year?

Speaker 2 (27:24):
Yeah?

Speaker 8 (27:24):
They had the second overall pick that took Dylan Dylan
Harper with that pick in the past draft, they acquired
Dearn Fox last year. In most cases, I would say yes,
like you expect them to maybe make that Oklahoma City
sort of rise, but again, the West is just so loaded.

Speaker 2 (27:42):
Yeah, like how high can you go?

Speaker 8 (27:44):
Maybe because of fresh legs and other teams aren't as
interested in getting the top.

Speaker 1 (27:47):
Second four or like a four or five stage you're
trying to slip in.

Speaker 8 (27:50):
I mean sure, and they may who knows, they may
was win sixty games and be right there with with
Oklahoma City. I just don't know how urgent some of
the other teams are going to be early out in
the season, Like the Mavericks. You know you don't have
Kyrie Irving, You're breaking in Cooper flag at that point.

Speaker 1 (28:07):
Man, that's another Dad storyline. I think this year, you know,
we got to give credit where credits do we talk
about baseball's Poppin'. I think the NBA is gonna have
some really interesting storylines this year.

Speaker 8 (28:17):
There's a realistic chance that san Antonio could just also
just at the default. Again of what I'm saying is,
I don't know if the regular season matters to the
other teams when it comes to seating, but because they're
so young and maybe something that could help them moving on.
But I think other teams are more just trying to
jockey for position for the second half of the year
than going into the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (28:37):
I think if Wemby takes my plan of the three
point finger roll, then they definitely got to show then
they're golden. A couple of quick phone calls when your
team's out of it in any sport, what then becomes
your answer, essentially, now what your rooting interest to now?
Or do you pick players, or do you find an

(28:58):
underdog story that resonates with you or the other option,
like Dan Byer said, if you're into other sports, is
that your q to transition to something else? Like, you know,
my team's out of it all right? Football? All right,
NBA's almost here, hockey's almost here. Like what is your move?
Let's go to Boise and Tyler. Hey, Tyler, go on, guys,
what's up?

Speaker 9 (29:15):
Man?

Speaker 2 (29:15):
What's your what's your move here?

Speaker 1 (29:17):
What do you do?

Speaker 10 (29:17):
So as a as a Bills fan, lifelong builds a
Mariners guy, it's been brutal and.

Speaker 1 (29:23):
Uh, you're living good now. I was gonna say building Mariners,
you're having your moment me finally.

Speaker 10 (29:28):
But as as that, you know, usually baseball over in
August and football season starts in August. But this year
I gotta say, you know, Mariners never ever making the
World Series. Definitely pulling for them as obviously as a fan,
but I think people that aren't fans can lean that direction.
And then as far as you know, the other be
sat Bills builds Lions, super Bowl and maybe like series

(29:51):
with the Mariners and the Brewers would be pretty sweet.

Speaker 1 (29:54):
I think that is the number one answer if we
were playing family feud and Steve Harvey came out with
here as big mustache. I think the number one answer
on the board would be people root for the team
that perhaps the franchise has never won. That's always the answer.

Speaker 2 (30:06):
That's where yeah, that's where my heart goes. So I
give him one.

Speaker 1 (30:09):
Let's all you happy about something. He's right because Rember
last year, everyone's number one answer was come on Lions
and Bills, And I think the answer now would really
be Brewers Mariners would be do you remember what I
said to you know, the Ultimate Fantasy Josh Allen hoists
the trophy and he thanks all the fans that were
there in the nineties, and and ay, Jim Kelly and

(30:29):
Scott nor would you got all you guys are forgiving?

Speaker 2 (30:31):
And he you do it for everybody?

Speaker 1 (30:33):
Ultimate AI video Albums. If your team's out and you're
rooting for the people that sort of I don't know,
did not deserve it, but that have been waiting. We
talked about it when the Cubs finally won. There were
grandparents where people were like, I'm so happy my grandfather
lasted long enough to see this, and other people's grandparents
died just before they won, so one more phone call

(30:55):
on it's going to happen interest. I feel like that's
gonna happen to me. I feel like the Mets are
going to go on one hundred year streak of not
winning the World Series, and it'll be like a ninety
some of year old guy like, let's go Metsi's well,
then a sudden like I'm gonna diet ninety eight years
old in September a month world starting theory that you've
always been the bad luck charm to the mess.

Speaker 2 (31:16):
You've always been there.

Speaker 1 (31:16):
Mush, I might send a hit man after Rich wrap
it up with who we got here in Seattle? He's
the governor, the governor in Seattle.

Speaker 2 (31:26):
What's going on?

Speaker 1 (31:26):
Man? I got nothing against your your Mariners. I remember
battling your Mariners in ninety five, though you did say
their home run celebrations lame. I think it's cool with
the Trident. I don't like any of those celebrations. What's up, Seattlesonal?

Speaker 7 (31:42):
Hey, a little background real quick. I grew up in Detroit, Michigan,
spent first fourteen years of my life there, and then
my dad dragged me out to Seattle, so I root
for all teams Detroit, so it's kind of fears our
family apart. All my kids are Seattle fans, whether it's football,
lether it's baseball's human hockey with cracking. But my take is,
once the Detroit team is out, I stopped eating. I

(32:05):
just stopped watching the game. I can't get into it
if my team's not there. So big game tomorrow night.
Let's go Tigers. And I wanted to say I love
your guys' show. I usually only catch the last hour,
but the government shut down has me on vacation right now,
so I'm getting to listen to you all day and
keep up the great work.

Speaker 1 (32:23):
Thanks man. Hopefully everything works out with your job, and
we appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (32:26):
Brother.

Speaker 1 (32:26):
But you know what, if the Mariners do beat your Tigers,
your kids will be happy. Look at it that one, Yeah,
so someone will be happy.

Speaker 7 (32:32):
Right.

Speaker 1 (32:32):
Thanks again, I appreciate the call, and thank you Fox
Sports Radio Nation for hearing us out.

Speaker 5 (32:36):
Now.

Speaker 1 (32:37):
Next, we do something called old school when fifty hits.
We do it every Thursday. We throw it back and reminisce,
and let's just say today's an anniversary. We'll fill you
in on everything when we get back. But something started
today changed today, change how we watch TV, changed our
expectations and changed how your parents monitored you and what

(32:57):
you were viewing. That's true. Start thinking about g programming,
the edgy, naughty things you watched as a kid. It's
growing up. What stands out?

Speaker 2 (33:06):
What are some of your memories there? And we'll get
you involved.

Speaker 1 (33:09):
Next eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox is Cavino
and Rich on Fox Sports Radio. You know what's funny
about our conversation yesterday about razzing like people love to
lean into like Yankee Stadium spirit Halloween. No, if you

(33:30):
go to my social media page, like my Facebook page too,
you see all these people like hey, Yankees released their
City Connect jerseys. It's like a trash can like yea,
all right, only one team wins, so shut your pile.
If it's not your team, then shut up. What stage
of grief? Only anger bargaining? I buy bargaining. He's bargaining.

Speaker 2 (33:52):
Recent f.

Speaker 1 (33:55):
One team wins, so I guess it's not too bad.

Speaker 8 (33:57):
No, no, no, no, no no.

Speaker 1 (33:58):
I think it's a failure. I'm in Paris by the Yankees.
I'm disgusted. In fact, I think they stink. They deserve
to lose right. Love the game that the Blue Jays play.
I just don't like them right, but only one team wins. Relax,
slow your role and I can't wait to see who
it is you know to make you nuts suffer anymore.
Let's do our ti Iraq play of the Day live.

(34:20):
I didn't pick a Yankees Cli yeah live for the
Fox Sports Radio studio. It's time for our play of
the day, and Danny, you could cover your ears for
this one. Schwarber hitting bombs.

Speaker 5 (34:29):
He's from the right side. That ball's crushed steep to
right field. Hernandez doesn't even move.

Speaker 1 (34:34):
It is long gone.

Speaker 5 (34:35):
HiT's off the roof for the pavilion in right field.
He styles Schwarber and with a lightning strike, the Phillies
tie it up at one man shot.

Speaker 1 (34:45):
Well in about twenty minutes or so. Game four gonna
get going at Douer Stadium. That was Critesy, a Phillies
radio network tyrect Play the Day and four. Over forty years,
Tirec's been helping customers find the right tires for how,
what and where they drive. Shift Fast and free back
by free Road has a protection with convenient installation options
like mobile tire installation tire rack dot Com the way

(35:06):
tire buying should be, and we do it every Thursday.
We're a little early, but that's nice. Guys are one
minute early for this? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (35:15):
Holy Holy? But should I just alert all the affiliates?

Speaker 1 (35:19):
Should I just speak real slow for a minute now?
It's like that rare occasional where you're actually early with
your wife or a dinner reservation, like we're here for
the seven o'clock sir, it's six fifty five. Well, like
I said, something happened on this day in nineteen eighty six.
We called it the fourth TV Network. Back in eighty six,

(35:41):
we call it Old School win fifty hits.

Speaker 2 (35:43):
Let's do it.

Speaker 1 (35:44):
If there's a certain.

Speaker 2 (35:47):
What we gonna do is go back.

Speaker 6 (35:51):
Back into town, throwing it back for a Thursday. Old
School went fifty hits. That's fifty after CNR give you
the time capsule topic and we reminisce together.

Speaker 1 (36:03):
Yeah right, taking you back when you were a little
pumpkin pie haircuted, freaking your corduroys, who were in your parachute,
panp Can I give you a little perspective what was
going on on this day in eighty six? Besides what
you're going to get to This is when the Mets
were in the National League Championship against Mike Scott. Remember
how unhittable he was, the legend of Mike Scott and.

Speaker 2 (36:23):
Dar you cursed the team.

Speaker 1 (36:24):
Yeah, this is before I cursed the Mets. And today
was the day Phantom of the Opera opened on Broadway,
so Andrew Lloyd Webber. So we're talking a long time ago.
The eighties feel like yesterday. But man, coming up on
forty years. I was born that year eighty six, Sam
huh yep. I believe that media changed forever that day.
The world changed forever because Io Sam was born on

(36:44):
this day. In nineteen eighty six, Fox debuted as TV's
fourth major network after NBC, CBS, and ABC. And when
you think back the early Fox days, you think about
them trying to find their place, yep on the dial
now and it was a couple of years until the

(37:06):
main shows really came out. Fox just sort of launched
on this day. But when you think of those early
days of Fox, when they really became a player.

Speaker 2 (37:14):
They had to cut out their own lane. Yeah, they
really did.

Speaker 1 (37:16):
Fox operated differently than the other three in that only
three hours of the day were dedicated to the network.
It had a rocky start, but Fox became the most
watched network during two thousand and seven two thousand and eight.
In twenty nineteen, the network was acquired by the Disney Company.
So that's the history. But it started eighty six on
this day. But if you think back to then, they

(37:38):
had to differentiate themselves from everybody else, and the way
they did that was with Edgy program And just for
the record, people love to be like, oh, you guys
are affiliated with no Fox Sports Radio. Just for the record, No,
no affiliation with Fox News, Fox Sports won or like
NFL on Fox.

Speaker 2 (37:54):
It's like how Mattinglee and Greenwell are cousins.

Speaker 1 (37:56):
Yeah, Like there's no real affiliation other than the name
and the brand distant. I have a question, how does
one in the eighties carve out like we want to
be a network channel. That seems like that's like bedrock stuff,
Like how do you even get to become a network channel?
It's sort of the wild West. I guess you have
enough money to do it. Exam it was really interesting
and I'm not trying to like I'm being serious when

(38:17):
I say when you were a kid before cable TV
was in every household and streaming. We all remember back
you'd flip the TV channels on, like on the Actually.

Speaker 2 (38:26):
What was it for you guys? What was Fox for
you guys? Fox five? Fox for us? It was eight.
Out here it's eleven. Yeah, it was Fox five New York.

Speaker 1 (38:34):
And I remember like CBS was two, MBC was four,
and no matter, NBC for US was seven. Whatever city
you lived in, they were missing channels, Like remember three
was nothing because three is what you put your TV
on for VCRs and stuff. They were missing channel. So
I guess Fox just filed the way in different markets
to fill that niche.

Speaker 8 (38:52):
We didn't have a Fox affiliate for years, and so
someone that programming like Beverly Hills nine or two one
oh at some point had to be aired at like
midnight on a Saturday night or Sunday morning. And then
when the NFL got the package, we still didn't have
a Fox affiliate, so they had to figure out a
way to put Packer games on and they ended up
being on the ABC affiliate.

Speaker 1 (39:13):
Now correct me if I'm wrong. Fox, again, carving its
only as a little edgy, did their whole Tracy Yellman thing,
which spawned the Simpsons, and they were pushing the envelope
because they were edgy, and barb was talking back to
his parents.

Speaker 2 (39:30):
Married with Children that was the other one.

Speaker 1 (39:32):
Married with Children was way, let me hit you up
a little more in living color.

Speaker 2 (39:37):
Oh yeah, so raise your hand.

Speaker 4 (39:39):
If your mom ever said I don't know about this
married with children's show, Oh I'm sure you should be
watching this, and she'd make us turn the channel.

Speaker 2 (39:46):
It was.

Speaker 1 (39:46):
It was borderline inappropate, especially for back then. It was
my dad's favorite show, and I like, he was like,
you let me watch all? Yeah, but it was it
was definitely edgy. Married with Children was definitely pushing the envelope.
You said this, I remember getting a trouble in school,
Danny because I wore I'm Bart Simpson, who the hell
are you?

Speaker 10 (40:03):
Shirt?

Speaker 1 (40:03):
And he heard it inside out. Al Bundy went to
what strip club? Did he go to the jiggle room?
When can we go there? Hooters?

Speaker 2 (40:11):
Hooters?

Speaker 1 (40:12):
Yum yum yum? Right, so way inappropriate. Based on Fox
launching on this day in eighty six, what other cartoons,
radio shows, movies shows, what are considered edgy? Back when
you were little that you remember sneaking when the parents
went to bed.

Speaker 2 (40:32):
You know, my wife, her.

Speaker 1 (40:34):
Mom wouldn't let her watch MTV or vh one or anything,
and thought it was all like the davil pH One is.
She was the water boy mom, right, So what were
the edgy things you tuned into when the parents left
the house or I don't know, when it was late
at night?

Speaker 2 (40:51):
Maybe too violent?

Speaker 1 (40:52):
It makes it takes me back to the skin Imax days, dude, Yeah, late,
all right, so your phone calls next all school and
fifty hits right here on Fox Sports Radio.
