Speaker 3 (00:47):
We are going to dive into college football's playoff and
my proposal that I teased a week ago to Aaron
Torres on how I think the tweak that needs to
be aid to the college football bracket. We'll get to
that in about twenty five minutes or so. But we
are talking Packers, Lions, We're talking Chiefs and Cowboys, and
we're also talking about the action that Aaron Torres saw
(01:10):
this week in Las Vegas with the Players Era Tournament. First,
I gotta tell you you gotta check out cnr's brand
new YouTube channel. Just search Coveno and rich FSR and
YouTube again, that's Cavino and rich FSR. Be sure to
hit the subscribe button and don't stop there. Hit that
thumbs up icon and comment away and let us know

with who. Go out check it out the brand new

channel on YouTube. Just search Coveno and rich FSR and subscribe.
You can find me on ex at Dan Byer on Fox,
and you can find Aaron at Aaron Underscore Torres, you
took in the basketball that was in Las Vegas this week,
specifically the Players Era Tournament. What was your impression of
the I guess now somewhat controversial tournament that is headlining
(01:53):
the non conference portion of the college basketball schedule.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
Yeah, yeah, it was so for people who don't know
lot about it. Most of the best teams in college
basketball that have played during you know this week that
we call Feast week.
Speaker 4 (02:08):
We're in Vegas for this Player's Era Tournament.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
The difference between this tournament and as best as I
understand it, every other tournament that has played this time
of year, is that in the NIO World, teams are
actually paid to come and be part of this tournament.
And it's the opposite of say a Maui Invitational, which
everybody knows where. You know, not only is the school
not paid, but obviously it's very costly to get to
Maui and to stay there for a group of fifty
(02:33):
sixty people, whatever it ends up being, you know, it's
costly to it's just costly to stay there. And so
this tournament is different. It got a lot of pushback
because frankly, this was kind of the weakest Maui tournament
that we've had. Some of the other tournaments haven't been
as good, and and you know, there's a lot of
negatives as far as the event itself. And so I'll
(02:54):
try to be quick here get it back over to you.
The basketball was great. The basketball was great. You know,
I myself saw easily three to four Top twenty five matchups.
You know, Houston, Tennessee on Tuesday was an awesome game.
Gonzaga Alabama on Monday was an awesome game. Michigan looks
like maybe the best team in college basketball after winning
its last two games by thirty plus points. The issue
(03:16):
is that, just about from my perspective, everything else kind
of stunk. To be honest, the crowds weren't great. There's
already talk of expanding this not only in teams next year,
but in terms of length of the tournament. I think
that's a mistake. I think it was already hard to
kind of convince people to come as it is. You know,
ticket prices. I obviously had a media pass, but ticket
(03:39):
prices were roundly criticized because you know, they were very
expensive basically, and then on top of it, you know,
the schedule was a little bit funky. And I know
I'm going long, Dan, but I'm trying to give everybody context.
You know, a lot of the complaints about tournaments like
MAUI from a coaching perspective is you don't know who
you're gonna play until the last possible minute. Well, this
(04:00):
event had two predetermined opponents Monday, Tuesday, and then Wednesday.
You didn't find out who you were playing on Wednesday
until late, late, late into the evening.
Speaker 4 (04:10):
And so I think from.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
The coaches that I talked to, there was a lot
of frustration, and then from the fans who were obviously
trying to get out on Wednesday or trying to figure
it out. They wanted to know when they were playing,
and so a lot of frustration with the on the
court or with the off the court elements. And so
I'll throw it back to you, but that's essentially the
gist of the basketball was great. I think everything else
(04:34):
that minimum needs work, and that doesn't even you know,
that doesn't even discuss the impact that it had on
these other tournaments that are being played by I.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
Think it's I think there's so many different layers to it.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
And I'm really curious about the point of the Hawaii
portion of it with Maui, because I think that's the
tournament that is so near and dear to those of
us who love college basketball, is the Maui Invitational. Obviously,
the tragic fires that happened there are a couple of
years ago.
Speaker 4 (04:59):
I can I jump in one yeah on that real quick.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
I just want to say one quick thing is that
every coach or administrator that I talked to was transparent
in there. We love Maui. We hope there's a way
it keeps going. We also couldn't turn down the cash
to be here. So it's not just guys like you
and I that sit on the couch and watch Maui.
(05:22):
The people that have experienced it love it. And I
had easily half a dozen people say we hope it
goes on in perpetuity the way that it is. We
just couldn't turn down this specific opportunity to be here.
So I didn't want to cut you up, but I
think that's important context. It's not just us as fans.
It's the people, the players, the coaches, et cetera.
Speaker 3 (05:40):
But the comparison that I use is in college football,
and I remember Wisconsin would do this is Wisconsin would
try to schedule games against UNLB and Hawaii in football
and would travel to those places because it allowed the
fan base to go and travel to great places. And truly,
if you would look back at their schedulescifically when Barry
(06:00):
Alvarez was the head coach, you're saying, oh, they're playing
UNLV again, and they're at UNLV are there? Oh well,
they're Why is Hawaii on the schedule?
Speaker 5 (06:08):
Like?
Speaker 3 (06:08):
Those are those are reasons that they would play games
to allow the fan base to have those trips. Now,
with the college football playoff, you usually thought that the
bowl game at the end of the year was the
ultimate trip. Now you're playing three or four games, and
I think college football fans have a choice to make
on what do I go. I mean, there are some
(06:28):
fans that and parents of players that will be able
to go to every single game, but that's not every fan.
And so now when I look at this college basketball thing,
Aaron fans aren't traveling to every single game unless there
is a close tie. But what I loved about Maui
was you didn't need to bring four thousand fans because
(06:50):
the gym held five hundred people, you know, or whatever
whatever it was. But I find it interesting that you
say that the cost, at least on Maui was to
a point where maybe fans weren't as interested in going
in that.
Speaker 4 (07:03):
No, it was it was the athletic departments at department.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
Okay, yeah, So like if you're hypothetically so all burn
won Maui last year and you don't get paid, so
you know, if you're talking about a travel party, you know, administrators, coaches, players,
I mean, that's forty people that you got to get
to Maui, you got to keep them in Maui for
four or five days, and just the cost, it just
doesn't make sense. So the fans love it, and to
(07:29):
be clear, the administrators, the players, everybody that I talked
to who has experienced that tournament and I actually have
never been there, they love it too. It was just
for financial feasibility in this new era where everything is
about raising money for players. If you can get a
million dollars to go to Vegas as opposed to spending
(07:51):
you know, filling the blank two hundred and fifty thousand,
you know, three hundred thousand, five hundred thousand, whatever it
is to bring forty fifty people to Maui, you have
to make decision as an athletic department.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
Got ya, Okay, I'm glad you clarified because I was.
Speaker 3 (08:04):
I was surprised because the gist and I'm like Jesus,
isn't costing that much? And especially the reason I brought
up the fires too was I felt like it was
such a great way to try to help that island
get back on its feet, you know, and because they
couldn't hold the tournament what they're two years ago.
Speaker 4 (08:21):
And I would also add this.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
It's almost the exact opposite, is that I actually talked
to some fans that were like, so, I'll just give
you an example. So Saint John's played last year in
a tournament in the Bahamas. It wasn't the Atlanta's tournament
that's going on right now. It's a different tournament that's
played at the Bajamar Resort. But I bring it up
because I literally asked the Saint John's fan. I was like, so,
(08:42):
you guys thinking about coming back next year, and they
said exactly what I said. They were like, listen, basketball
has been awesome. Although say this was before Saint John's
lost their second game. I don't know if they feel
the same way, but they were like, listen, you know,
the travels kind of weird. You know, we didn't know
what time to book our flights on Wednesday, Da da dah,
this and that.
Speaker 4 (09:02):
And they literally said.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
Like, if it was in it, if it was in Atlanta,
or if it was in the Bahamas, it'd be a
no doubt. But these fans were actually unsure of if
they would do the trip again. And to extrapolay, to
point out further, they're gonna expand beyond the eighteen teams
they had this year, and there's actually talk of like
making this a truly like two three week event, and
(09:24):
I think it's actually gonna make fan attendants worse than
it was this year, because hey, you could plan at
least for this year. My team's playing Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday.
At some point, I'm gonna go out Sunday. I'm gonna
leave Wednesday, or I'm gonna leave Thursday, or I'm gonna
leave whatever next year. I mean, if they start this
thing before Thanksgiving and you don't, it's just like I said,
the basketball. You know, it's almost like sometimes we talk
(09:47):
about this with like college football, is that you know,
you get all this crazy realignment stuff happens, and you say,
but once the games get played, we forget about all that.
Once the basketball was played, it was a great product
on the floor, but they have some logistical things that
they really got to work. I didn't get the sense
that fans were super eager to come back and do
it again next year.
Speaker 3 (10:08):
I thought it was did you see Trilly Donovan's idea?
And do you know who Trilly Donovan is? You don't
have to say who it is because obviously it's a secret,
but Twitter account out there that people.
Speaker 4 (10:18):
Are I don't actually know who he is.
Speaker 3 (10:19):
Don't know who he is, but brought up the point
of why not have why not have a situation where
you know, we have games going on in Orlando right now,
isn't BYU and Miami playing I believe in Orlando, there's
Michigan State and North Carolina are playing in Fort Myers.
I believe why not have like those tournaments battle for Atlantis,
(10:42):
have the winner of those tournaments end.
Speaker 1 (10:44):
Up playing in Vegas in a certain tournament.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
And I thought that the idea was great because it
would make the non conference schedule even more entertaining than
it is, and you would you would actually, unlike what
the NBA Cup has done, if you had like that
sort of a tournament college basketball, I think there would
be some some weight to winning like a tournament like
(11:08):
that or a title like that, So you're actually adding
value in the non conference schedule as opposed to just
playing a bunch of games. I mean, the thing that
you know, we here last night with Michigan beating a
Zega and how good Michigan was, but I mean, you know,
just you touched on it the good matchups that we had.
Now imagine putting weight on it and actually giving out
some sort of trophy to make it seem worthwhile to
(11:31):
actually rival. They wouldn't match up to a Final four
or national championship, but at least it would it would
be something that a team would shoot for. And I
thought that. I just thought it was a great idea.
I don't know if it's feasible or not, but I
thought it was a great idea.
Speaker 4 (11:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
The only thing I'd really add. First of all, I
guess I maybe did see that. I saw something about, Hey,
maybe you make like it's almost like a play in
bracket where you you know, you know you're going to
Maui and you keep that the way that it is.
Speaker 1 (11:56):
Yes, I as four Kings is what he called it.
Speaker 3 (11:59):
Where then you have the schedule flexible enough where if
you didn't advance, you could play other teams from other
tournaments in that sort of deal.
Speaker 4 (12:06):
Okay, interesting, I was going to say.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
The one thing I will say I do remember about
it must have been probably it was one of the
last two years I remember tweeting out on social media.
You know, I probably tweet too much. Little stream of consciousness.
I remember tweeting out in real time. You know, the
Maui Invitational is everything the NBA wishes.
Speaker 4 (12:25):
The NBA Cup was. NBA Twitter was not happy with
that tweet. They were not happy with.
Speaker 1 (12:30):
That, of course not.
Speaker 2 (12:31):
But it's exactly to your point. There are so many
great elements of these early season tournaments. And I think
that's the other thing too, By the way, that was
actually probably the number one complain of the players era.
There's no bracket, and it's like, you know, Maui, whether
you know the teams, whether you don't, you can get
invested of.
Speaker 4 (12:50):
Oh I just saw you know whoever it was. It
doesn't matter who it was.
Speaker 2 (12:54):
You know, Alabama BYU Tennessee, we saw them win.
Speaker 4 (12:59):
Oh they played tomorrow will Purdue looked awesome. Early in
this one.
Speaker 2 (13:02):
It was like, you know, Monday, Okay, Tuesday, you know
who you're playing. And then Wednesday, like I said, you
didn't even know until I'm not even kidding ten o'clock
local time who it was. And then on top of it,
let me also ad this, Dan, By the way, this
shows you a little bit how dysfunctional was There was
this huge algorithm that was supposed to play into who
plays who on Wednesday. By the way, fun fact, they
(13:24):
actually the loser. The teams that lost all the games
actually had to play today on Thursday. So there's that
element of it. So those teams were really pissed. But
on top of all of it, there's this algorithm that
they created to determine who's playing who on Wednesday, and
I know what fan base is that were just like, hey,
you know, okay, based on this algorithm, it's down to
(13:46):
these two or three teams, and then all of a.
Speaker 4 (13:48):
Sudden they were playing those teams. And so it's not
a very well run event. Yet it's only year two.
Speaker 2 (13:55):
The one thing I will say, and I actually it
does pain me a little bit to say this, is
that I don't think it's going anywhere. I have questions
about the long term viability of raising that much money
year over year over year, but.
Speaker 4 (14:11):
I can't say that.
Speaker 2 (14:11):
You know, it's obviously a windfall for Turner, which basically
gets content for four or five straight days. And then
also MGM seem to have a lot of you know,
they use the MGM arenas. All the teams are staying
at the hotels, so it's probably beneficial for them.
Speaker 4 (14:27):
I'm rambling. I could keep going on and on, but
go ahead.
Speaker 3 (14:30):
I think that the point is this is someone like me,
and I'll just old head, old school, however you want
to put it, like not everything to me needs to
be nil in Vegas, I agree, And it's that's that's
what it is.
Speaker 1 (14:43):
I mean, how many other sports. I mean, it's like,
go to Vegas.
Speaker 3 (14:46):
It's like the default, and at some point it's not
going to be as cool anymore. And to your point
of the attendance of these games and fans being turned
off by the experience, none of that's being taken into consideration,
because ultimately, there was a million dollars on the line
last night right in the third place game. There was
three hundred thousand dollars and the fourth place team was
(15:07):
gonna get two hundred thousand dollars. And so I find
it interesting that the conversation actually amongst your brethren, Aaron
and not necessarily mine, and I'm talking about the college
basketball insiders, is kind of this fan of complete that
this is the future of college basketball. We've got to
figure out a way to make this work because this
isn't going away.
Speaker 1 (15:28):
And to me, that was so disheartening.
Speaker 3 (15:30):
It was so disheartening of like, they're gonna have to
make figure out a way, whether it's to scrap the
whole format. I know, as you said, thirty two teams
next year and not sixteen, and they're going to group
play and the different stuff, But it's just the fact
of that a million dollars is at stake for some
sort of team and that's gonna be probably the main
(15:51):
draw more than anything else as opposed to any of
these other tournaments. And if you have thirty two teams
and you have one conference tying in, there's people that
are going to feel left out. And I'm curious on
how that's going to end up playing out down the road.
If the Big twelve has this access to a million
dollar tournament, what is the next step. And then for
those other conferences or those other leagues that want more
(16:13):
access for their schools.
Speaker 4 (16:15):
Yeah, no.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
And what I would say is, I obviously saw what
other media members wrote and said and talked about.
Speaker 4 (16:23):
I'm actually more a little bit with you, Dan.
Speaker 2 (16:26):
I guess my only thing was I'm a little bit
Let me put this way, I as somebody who has
worked at startups, and this is a startup event. You know,
every startup starts with big dreams and you know, we're
gonna do this, and we're gonna change the world this
way and whatever. You get to hear two year three
and you're not profitable. At some point, the money well
(16:48):
dries up. And so to me, I do think hypothetically
potentially going to thirty two teams a multiple week tournament
at this point, I just find it hard to make
sense that it's gonna be financially feasible. So I'm not
as this is the future, deal with it, it is whatever.
But I will also say, having been there, like I said,
it's such a windfall for MGM that I think they're
(17:09):
gonna keep trying to make it work. So I'm not
quite at the it's inevitable, deal with it, make it work.
But I do hope and wonder if there can be
a balance. And I'm the side story of what you
said I agree with one thousand percent, which is it
sucks that everything has to be about nil because it's
(17:30):
ruining so many of the great things that we have
in college sports. But then the other thing is too,
Like I said, I do hope that there is a
way to keep at minimum, the Maui Invitational still a
very prominent tournament, you know, not to get too far
into the weeds. You know, ESPN obviously broadcasts Maui. They
spend a lot of money on a lot of properties
(17:52):
and I, you know, sports properties, and I think it
would be worthwhile for them where if this is an
NIL cash grab to you know, make it more financially
feasible for teams to go to mau Because one, that's
just great real estate for them of having all these
basketball games to run all week. But two, it's a
great event as well. So I'm hoping, as I said,
(18:12):
that there's a way to at minimum preserve Maui and
some of these other tournaments, and that it doesn't just
become you know, if you're not playing in this event,
you're out of sight, out of mind.
Speaker 3 (18:21):
All well, I'll make my last point just on something
that you said a little bit earlier, and it's the
NIL And I don't love how the NIL world has
taken over things, but I'm willing to accept some things.
Speaker 1 (18:35):
About it, and I'm not mad that players are being paid.
Speaker 3 (18:38):
And I think when you say, like, oh, I hate NIL,
you think it makes it sound like you don't want
players to get paid.
Speaker 1 (18:45):
That's not it.
Speaker 3 (18:46):
I actually think that from everything that you just laid
out here in this last twenty minutes, that the million
dollars at stake in that championship game, or the five
hundred thousand dollars that was at stake for the second
place team, that means more to the school than it
actually did to the players in the uniforms. Where Michigan
isn't playing harder because there's a million dollars at stake,
(19:09):
Those teams who are playing in championship games will always
play hard, right, I think that it's it's more to
the administration for then what they could do with the nil,
like in that sort of facet like, I don't think
Michigan played harder last night in won that game by
a huge amount because they wanted the million dollars more
(19:30):
than Gonzaga. So ultimately nil doesn't go to the players
in that situation, even though the finances would. It's about
the administration wanting that million dollar nil. If that makes
any sense.
Speaker 2 (19:43):
No, it is, And I think you know this goes
back to what Chris Gordy was telling us last hour
about you know, the lane Kiffin sweepstakes about you know,
do contracts going forward become less you know, ten years,
one hundred million fully guaranteed and if you get fired
you have a seven two million dollar buyout, or does
it become more incentive based Now for somebody like Lane Kiffin,
(20:05):
they're calling the shots. But I just bring it up
because I think there's something to that, because again, everything
now is about revenue generation for players. And so go
on down the list. You know that that that facility upgrade.
You know, listen, Dan, you know the world of college
football ten years ago, every two or three years, these
facilities were getting these crazy upgrades because you had to
(20:27):
spend the money somewhere, you had to keep up with
everybody else. Now it's just about creating revenue for the players.
And so you know, to your point, you know, and
I'll give the players credit. Man, I was at all
these games, like Iowa State played hard, like Saint John's
lost twice. I never thought they weren't playing hard. I
just thought that they face better teams. So, you know,
(20:47):
I do think there is this default of every time
a team loses. Now, like you see this a lot
in college football, of like I saw this, I vividly.
Speaker 4 (20:57):
Remember like two or three weeks ago when Georgia beat Texas.
Speaker 2 (21:00):
Oh Texas, and Iowa has changed Texas They're soft, and
it's like, well, no, george is just actually a really
good team. Not everything is about guys not playing hard
because they're getting paid. And so I got the same
vibe this weekend. I didn't see a team that I
was like, well, you know, they're not gonna win a
million dollars, so they don't care and they're not trying.
But I do think anything everything right now in college
(21:22):
sports is about revenue generation, and so, yes, to your point,
I don't think you know, Yoxel Lendenburg, the best player
on Michigan is sleeping better tonight because it's team won
a million dollars.
Speaker 4 (21:35):
But I do think that.
Speaker 2 (21:36):
The administration is pretty clearly, you know, happy with the
performance that was that was out there.
Speaker 3 (21:41):
Yeah, it's a it's a nice it's a nice bonus,
but that's not what they were playing for at the
opening tip, right, that's not gonna Yeah, agree pcent with

Dan Byer. Would you prefer coco or would you prefer
Manzi's coco erin Torres.
Speaker 2 (24:20):
It depends the time of day, you know, if it's
six am, and you know, I'm just trying to people.
Guess people don't read newspapers anymore, but you know, just
trying to start the morning off on the right foot,
on a on a frigid morning, then.
Speaker 4 (24:34):
Yeah, probably the opposite.
Speaker 7 (24:35):
You know.
Speaker 4 (24:36):
I got to you know, be responsible till at least
ten am.
Speaker 2 (24:38):
So now if it's you know, if I'm on vacation,
you know, and it's uh, you know, I'm in New
York City or something, I'm going to see the Christmas tree,
then maybe I take Manzi's first.
Speaker 1 (24:47):
Yeah, I get a little you know, warmth.
Speaker 3 (24:50):
You know, they call it liquid courage, but can also
warm you up inside as well. I'm just saying, if
you're sitting home things are winding down, Yeah, why not
why not cap it off with an ice nice warm
drink by the fire. It's cold a lot of places
in the United States. Winter storm hitting the Midwest, moving
out east to the northeast. So yes, winter is here
(25:11):
in some parts of the country. Cowboys facing a third
and three right now at their own ten yard line,
but they're up on the chief seventeen to fourteen. Early
in the third quarter, Chiefs had a punted away, got
to midfield, but then punted it back.
Speaker 1 (25:23):
To Dallas to open the second half.
Speaker 3 (25:25):
We'll see if Dak Prescott and Crew Decks got a
touchdown pass the Ceedee Lamb and George Pickens just dropped
a pass on third and three, so Dallas will end
up having to punt it back to Kansas City. Hitting

That's Promo code CR Show at DraftKings. The Crown is
Yours College Football Playoff Committee has announced that the format
the discussion over the possible format change will not be
their deadline of December first.
Speaker 1 (26:05):
They've pushed that back to mid January. Mid to late January.
Speaker 3 (26:09):
Aaron, as they try to try to decipher what the
new format will be. Will it expand from twelve to sixteen,
schools tells me that they really want to expand if
they're adding this these last couple of months and are
trying to figure out ways to do so. But instead
of talking about the sixteen team bracket, I would actually
(26:31):
like them to keep it at twelve, but I have
a tweak to it. When the rankings came out this week,
there's a lot of discussion about the rankings, but what
I want to see is where are certain teams when
it comes to the bracket. And the bracket is laid
out in a fashion where Texas Tech would be the
five seed, tu Lane would be the twelve seed, Notre
(26:51):
Dame in Oklahoma would be the eight to nine Now
Texas Tech and Tulane. The winner of that game would
go on to face Georgia Tech Oklahoma. Notre Dames winner
would go on to face top seed at Ohio State.
And before Ohio State would gripe about that possible matchup,
I'm sure Oregon would like to have to say a
word after what happened last year. And that's kind of
where my format change comes. With all of this. We
(27:13):
have the first the top four teams getting buys Aaron,
I am giving you ready for this? The top three
teams buys Okay, and the group of five champion would
face the number one overall seed in the bowl game.
So think about that. It allows the number one overall
(27:34):
seed to play the weakest actual opponent. And the reason
I thought of this is because we have heard so
much on the seeding and people say, I'd rather be
Georgia in the scenario, I'd rather play Texas Tech or
Tulane as a four seed and possibly get the opportunity
to play Tulane in the quarterfinals, as opposed to having
(27:58):
to play say a Notre Dame or Oakland Homa or
in Oregon's case last year, in eight seed in Ohio
State in the quarterfinal rounds. It gives an added bonus
to your number one team that the Group of five
champion would end up being the twelve seed and playing
the number one overall seed.
Speaker 1 (28:17):
What do you think of that?
Speaker 4 (28:18):
So it's interesting.
Speaker 2 (28:19):
I think it also in some ways, you know, you
could argue you never want to play any extra games,
put extra you know, pressure on your body, whatever.
Speaker 4 (28:28):
But it was also a big gripe last year.
Speaker 2 (28:30):
If you remember, all four teams that got the first
round by actually lost their subsequent game. They didn't get
the they didn't get the home game, they were out
of rhythm. And then, obviously, again to your point, because
of how the seeding worked, Oregon and Georgia specifically as
the SEC and Big Ten champs were punished because you know,
(28:50):
they had to face some pretty good teams in the
second round of the college football playoffs. So you know,
I'd have to think a little bit more about it.
But in addition to in some ways having the easier path,
even with the extra game, it also you get the
home playoff game the revenue that comes with that. We
just talked a second ago about how important revenue generation
(29:10):
is in this new era of college sports. And then
I think it's one less week off at a time
when maybe you just don't because because remember everybody gets
a bye after the season. But then you start talking
about that second week where there's kind of this stretch
in between where it's really not a week, it's really
like eight or nine days because you're not playing again
(29:31):
until the thirty first or the first, and so all
of a sudden, now you're talking about, you know, twenty
days or so that you're off.
Speaker 4 (29:38):
As opposed to just a traditional quote unquote bye week.
Speaker 2 (29:41):
So I think that's the other variable as well, is
as weird as it sounds, I think a lot of
the coaches don't like the fact that the first the
teams that get the first round by gett an extra
week off because it gets you so far out of rhythm.
Speaker 1 (29:53):
In this scenario.
Speaker 3 (29:57):
That matchup, as you said that angle, there allows a
matchup of you would have a four seed play an
eleven seed and the five seed would play the ten seed.
And last year, I don't think we can look back
at last year's bracket.
Speaker 1 (30:12):
Because of the Boise State.
Speaker 3 (30:15):
Scenario of the state, yeah, but specifically of Boise State,
because of them being the group of five and getting
the buy like they did. To have that scenario I
think would be it was. It just threw everything out
of sorts. And as much as I would love for
(30:36):
Tulane to have success, Memphis to have success, Boise State
to have success, ultimately you're looking for the best games,
right and I think that if you had that first
weekend without a group of five in it, it would
be a pretty good weekend. You would have matchups like
Miami against Georgia, Alabama against Texas Tech, Oklahoma against Ole
(30:58):
Miss Notre Dame in Oregon. That would be the matchups
in the way that I seeded the bracket with Tulane
playing Ohio State in whatever bowl game. If the rankings
were to hold up, I just think that it it
gives more of a benefit to being the best of
the best instead of maybe allowing say a four seed
in this case, Georgia getting an advantage. And I don't
(31:21):
know how it's all going to shape out of who
the fore seed is. But if people are saying I'd
rather be a four than a one, then there's something
that's probably wrong with your bracket.
Speaker 4 (31:29):
Don't disagree, Yeah, I just think big picture the god now, the.
Speaker 3 (31:35):
Big picture is going to be sixteen. Like I think
that that's why they've extended it. They're going to figure
out some way to do sixteen. It's just a matter
of if it's going to be the four and four
or the five, you know, plus eleven.
Speaker 2 (31:46):
Let's make a bold prediction here. Somebody in the SEC
is going to have three losses. They're not going to
be good, and it is going to be an argument
by the time we get a bracket on them being out.
Maybe it's Alabama who had the time, you know, if
they were to lose the Iron Bowl, they you know,
they did have four straight wins over teams that were
ranked at the time. They would have the head ted
(32:07):
win over Vandy, Tennessee and Georgia. Maybe it's Alabama at
nine to three. Maybe it's you know, I'm already starting
to see this Texas argument of if they.
Speaker 4 (32:16):
Didn't schedule Ohio State, blah blah blah.
Speaker 1 (32:18):
Well, also, how about you don't lose to Florida?
Speaker 2 (32:21):
Like, can we have that part of the conversation too,
So I just bring it up because there's always gonna
be the scoring SEC team and that is what is
ultimately gonna lead to eventually sixteen teams. I guess my
only thing is I'm fine with sixteen if we stay there,
But it just feels like, you know, this is why
(32:41):
I'm anti NCAA tournament expansion, because you know, people say, oh, well,
what's four more teams?
Speaker 4 (32:46):
It's like, but it's not gonna stop at four.
Speaker 2 (32:48):
And you know, once you open up that door, it
opens up the door to do it again and again
and again. And that's my thing with sixteen is, yeah,
I'm fine with sixteen, but how soon until we start
talking twenty four although they are already talking twenty four
and so.
Speaker 4 (33:03):
Whatever.
Speaker 2 (33:04):
But I think to your point, going and extending this
window to expand you know, an extra couple weeks means
that everybody wants it.
Speaker 4 (33:13):
It's just how many teams and what is the format.
Speaker 3 (33:15):

What's going on? MANSI?
Speaker 6 (33:35):
There is a lot going on right now.
Speaker 8 (33:37):
We are in Dallas for the second NFL game on
today's Thanksgiving Thursday. Right now, Kansas City has the ball
at Dallas's forty four yard line. It is third and fourth,
but the Cowboys are up seventeen to fourteen and they
are halfway through the third quarter. Patrick Mahomes is thrown
for one hundred and thirteen yards and two touchdowns. Dak
Prescott has thrown for one hundred and sixty yards one touchdown.
Speaker 6 (33:58):
He also has one interception.
Speaker 8 (34:00):
Earlier today, though the Packers defeated the Lions in Detroit.
Thirty one to twenty four was the final score, green
Bay going for it on fourth down three times, getting
it all three times. Jordan Love threw over two hundred
and thirty four yards and four touchdowns. Keep in mind
that lines wide receiver i'm and ross Saint Brown left
the game with an ankle injury. It is not considered significant,
but Dan Campbell, the head coach, did say that he's
(34:22):
likely to miss one to two weeks and they're going
to know more tomorrow. Michael Parsons the first NFL player
in history to have twelve or more sacks in each
of his first five NFL seasons, and of course still
to come the Bengals and the Ravens and yes, Joe Burrow.
You can see video of him on social media arriving.
He is expected to start for Cincinnati. Other news out
of the NFL, Well Giants quarterback Jackson Dart has cleared
(34:44):
concussion protocol. He is set to play Monday night football
against the Patriots. The Bears have activated cornerbacks Kyler Gordon
and Jalen Johnson from injured reserve. They're facing the Eagles
tomorrow and the Eagles wide receiver Davonte Smith off the
injury report, so he should be good to go. Steelers
expect quarterback Aaron Rodgers to return for a Week thirteen.
He was a full participant, but Buccaneers quarterback Baker mayfield
(35:05):
status is still up in the air, and Cold quarterback
Daniel Jones suffered a fracture in his fibula, but he
will attempt to play through it. According to the NFL Network.
For Week thirteen against the Texans. In college football, Missouri
has agreed to a six year contract with coach Eli Drinkwitz.
When it comes to the NBA, Warrior star stuph Curry
suffered a quad contusion Wednesday.
Speaker 6 (35:24):
Night, so he's gonna miss around a week or maybe
a little bit more.
Speaker 8 (35:27):
They don't believe it was anything serious and it's just
going to depend how his quad response to treatment. Also,
thunder All NBA guard Jalen Williams off the injury report.
He's gonna make his season debut against the Suns on
Friday night in OKC. He's been recovering from a risk
surgery from rist surgery that he had right after their
twenty twenty five title run Let me Know. I Actually
(35:49):
I had one real quick Josh Hart's stuff, New York
Knicks star His stuff was stolen out of his hotel
an hour after he dropped it off, Like someone stole
a bag out of a hotel that he's been staying
and it had one hundred and eighty five thousand dollars
worth of watches and jewelry, jewelry, but it was like
he dropped it off, came back an hour later and
the bag was gone, so terrible, terrible.
Speaker 4 (36:11):
I saw this. I know, we gotta get a break.
Speaker 2 (36:13):
How does a hotel not have security cameras? They were like,
there are no suspects at this time. I'm like, how
is that possible in twenty twenty five?
Speaker 8 (36:20):
Don't I don't it seems and like I said's like
you're gonna get caught. He literally was gone for an hour,
Like what are we doing anyways?
Speaker 6 (36:25):
'tis the season to maybe be ice skating?

who cares, They're like, they'll take this stuff. They get caught,
they get caught, the stuff's probably.
Speaker 4 (36:50):
Gone or whatever.
Speaker 6 (36:51):
Yeah, yeah, it's crazy.
Speaker 1 (36:53):
It's too bad.

Now it's our turn donate this holiday season at sesame

you before we get to your ultimate Lane Kiffin prediction.
(38:43):
I do want to make this point, and it's funny
and how quickly things change. I tease that I may
become a Kansas City Chiefs fan. Has nothing to do
with jumping on a bandwagon. But I loved that the
Chiefs punted on fourth and four from the Cowboys forty
four yard line. They were down three. The only problem
is is Dallas just went on a ninety plus yard
drive and has likely retaken the lead as they review
(39:05):
a touchdown pass from Dak Prescott to Jake Ferguson. So
I loved Kansas City playing field position, but I got
burned Aaron Torrez because the Chiefs are like, now, we're
not going to go for it on fourth and four
down three. You know Dan Campbell would have hacked Matt Lafleur.
Monzie's been telling you got three fourth down conversions today.
Andy Reid's like, we're gonna punt it, We're gonna play
(39:26):
get good football. Couple of penalties here, a couple of
penalties there, and the Cowboys are on the verge of
extending their lead against Kansas City.
Speaker 2 (39:34):
You know Dan the wrong, you know the right result
doesn't justify the wrong decision, and I hate that, right
is that you know, Dan Campbell, we were talking about
some of his fourth down decision making earlier in the show.
If you convert and it works, it doesn't mean that
it's the right decision. And I don't think it was
the wrong decision for Andy Reid just because, you know,
(39:57):
just because the Cowboys went length of the field. So
I'm with if you, I'm not gonna you know, we'll
save the analytics are ruining sports debate for another non
friends Giving day when the vibes are not so as
high as they are right now. But but yeah, doesn't
make it the wrong decision just because it didn't work
out in your favorite.
Speaker 3 (40:15):
We've got about ninety seconds, by the way, my box
score tells me that they're going to overturn the touchdown,
So it's going to be an incomplee pass.
Speaker 4 (40:22):
And he was right the whole time.
Speaker 1 (40:23):
Yes, and you see it, you read was right.
Speaker 3 (40:25):
But the Cowboys will face a third and three from
the Chiefs thirteen yard line. Again, they're up seventeen to
fourteen four minutes to go in the third. All right,
does Lane Kiffen ultimately stay or go. When it comes
to the ole Miss rebels.
Speaker 2 (40:38):
You know, Chris Gordy a few hours ago has me
convinced that he is not welcome back. You know, I
know a few people at ole Miss. I'll trust his sources.
I don't think that's necessarily the case. I think if
you lose, it makes it a lot more complicated to
come back. I think if you win thirty to six
and after the game or Friday morning, you say you
want to come back, I think a lot of you know,
(40:59):
things are mended. I you know, I don't think that
that's necessarily the case. If you lose, I'll go ahead
and say I'll be quick. I'll say he goes to
Florida for a little bit of a twist there.
Speaker 4 (41:11):
I don't wan back at Old Miss.
Speaker 3 (41:13):
I find it crazy that Ole Miss wouldn't want him
back Like this is I'm sorry. It just comes with
the territory, right like they are just there. There are
certain jobs, and I understand that you want to say
like we're Old Miss and Lane Kiffin was being Lane Kiffin.
But to think ultimately that Ole Miss people wouldn't want
him back, I think is crazy. I think that ultimately
LSU is just too difficult to pass up. I said
(41:35):
a week ago, I thought, hey, he could coach through
the whole playoffs and do the thing and be the
old miss head coach and then just move on to
the next stop. I don't think that that is even
remotely a feasible option now, and so I think he's
probably gone after tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (41:48):
Yeah, all say very quickly. There's a war where they
could be in the SEC Championship game as well.
Speaker 3 (41:52):
Insanity that would be crazy Cowboys debating on whether to
go for it on fourth and three. Odd couple are next.
Happy Thanksgiving from all. Let's here at Fox Sports Radio.
