Speaker 1 (00:22):
Oh, yeah. You're no Marty Jannetty, man. You're no rocker.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Marty Jannetty was the weak-ass rocker. Yeah, but he was
still a rocker, more of a rocker than you are.
Covino and Rich on Fox Sports Radio. Our show rocks, though,
so I'll give you that. And thanks for being part
of it. Covino and Rich with Danny G, Sexy Ryan,
Dan Byer. Going to talk some NFL this hour. We're
joined by showboy Mahomes this hour with some trivia for
your grilling prize packs, whatever we're calling them.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
Our apron and koozie.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
So we're going to play some trivia this hour, talk
some commanders and more. I'm Steve Covino. That's rich Davis.
We're broadcasting live from the Fox sports radio studio. Remember
streaming live at Covino and rich FSR on YouTube. And
we be rocking out like Marty Gennetti.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
Let's go. It's like Marty Gennetti. Yeah. He's a, was
he one of the lamest wrestlers of our childhood?

Speaker 2 (01:13):
Marty Jannetty? No, there was plenty lamer, to be honest.
Like your uncle, Dangerous Danny.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
Oh, Danny Davis?

Speaker 3 (01:20):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
There was plenty of lamer wrestlers, for sure. The Brooklyn Brawler. Yeah,
he was pretty lame. Dude.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
Doink the Clown, one of Rich's favorites. I think he
was a distant relative of Rich.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
Oh, boy.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
But we have lots to get to. And we're even
getting a schedule watch. Let me hype up tomorrow. I
know we're going to focus on the Saints tomorrow. So
we're going to schedule a watch with the Saints tomorrow
just to see what it looks like, how difficult their
schedule is, what we, I guess, predict their season will
look like.

Speaker 4 (01:49):
Some people have the Saints, like Howie Long on FS1
yesterday said the Saints are his sleeper because Tyler Shuck
finished the year so strong last year. And there's other
people like Rich that just poo-poo that team instantly.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
You know what I love? I love that.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
You could be an expert in your own mind. You
could be an actual guy that's down there with the
team at the practice facilities, yet no one really knows
what's going to unfold in eight days from now.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
No one knows. No.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
The experts of all experts. Madam Ruby knows. That's about it.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
A bicycle. The Alamo.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
Even Madam Ruby doesn't know what's doing in eight days
from now. But there are teams that confuse the hell
out of me. And every day or so, we've been
going over certain team schedules. And today, dare I say
we do a little schedule watching? Let's go.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
Rich loves to look at the schedule game. Schedule watching.

Speaker 5 (02:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
But today we're going to focus on the Commanders, a
team that Rich often sleeps on and disrespects.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
No, no, no, no.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
What I said was the Commanders are... A top three
team to me where I have no clue.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
Just confused. How to assess this team. So we bring
in the biggest Commanders fan we know.

Speaker 6 (02:59):
Right.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
Our buddy here at Fox Sports Radio, JB. What's up, dude? JB.

Speaker 5 (03:03):
What's up?

Speaker 1 (03:04):
I'm probably the only Commanders fan you know. Jonely Bonely.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
You know, my buddy Sal in New Jersey.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
Our buddy Sal was a Redskins now Commanders fan.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
And my buddy John growing up, Union, New Jersey.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
Always a big fan. Redskins fan. Anyone that wore a
Riggins jersey in the 80s, right?

Speaker 2 (03:18):
I mean, I had one. It must have been on sale,
but I did have one growing up. But yeah, JB
is our resident Commanders fan. So while we go over
the schedule, JB will be, I guess, a voice of
reason to give us his side of the story. But
before we even get into the schedule. I think because,
you know, like Danny with the Raiders, me with the Niners.
DB with the Seahawks, you know, you really do pay

(03:41):
so much more attention to your own team and the
moves they make in the offseason and, you know, what
injuries that you might not.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
Oh, yeah, that's right.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
I forgot that guy's injured. We're all so honed in
on our own team at this very moment. So JB
is going to be valuable here. But I do want
to point out that. hard knocks you're watching with the
seahawks quarterback receiver the netflix shows.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
I know i was the one you just started watching i.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
Watched later than you guys but i think the sentiment
we all shared was oh man that's right jayden daniels
it wasn't we're not even two years removed from people
saying he had the greatest rookie quarterback season ever he
went to the nfc championship electric he was electric you
know best year of my life.

Speaker 4 (04:19):
Yeah we didn't best year of your life We didn't forget, Rich.
You were just a year late watching the show.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
I was like a month or so behind you. But Danny,
you know, when you do watch it, you're like, that's right.
His mom's a lot. But everyone seems to love her
and respect her. He's this young, humble star.

Speaker 4 (04:34):
He doesn't exactly love the limelight. He'd rather just be
having fun on the field.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
Even during photo shoots, he felt a little awkward.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
Yeah, they're like, do some dance moves, and he's like...
Really likable dude, though.

Speaker 6 (04:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
But here we are, like I said, less than two
years removed from that, and according to Las Vegas, they
got the Eagles at plus 140 to win the division,
Dallas plus 235, Giants plus 600.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
Your team is predicted to.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Being last place plus six 50. So give us the
thoughts on what they've done in the off season, where
this team's at.

Speaker 7 (05:11):
Well, the giants thing is crazy to me. The giants
haven't beaten us in three seasons.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
So we're four.

Speaker 7 (05:17):
No, the last four, even in a five win season,
two of those wins were against the giants. So obviously
the giants got better. But yeah, I just, I don't know.
I think we're being slept on, but I also think
we're not great. So it's somewhere in the middle. We
did a lot this offseason. Obviously, Odafe, Owe, Leo Chennault,

(05:38):
all these guys on defense. There's seven new starters on
defense for one of the worst.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
It starts to see how that's going to pan out
when you're.

Speaker 2 (05:44):
Like, how are these guys going to work together? How
are they going to play together? So that's a big
question mark.

Speaker 7 (05:48):
You bring in digs was a big one. The, the
soul crushing moment of the off season was Tunsil going
down because now we, we had this question when I
did brainwave, what concerns you most? And most of us said,
so Tunsil goes down and I'm looking at it and
I'm just like, man, if you asked me the one
player outside of Jaden who can't get hurt, it's Laramie

(06:08):
Tunsil and Brandon Coleman.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
Slides in there. He was the starter in 2024. He
was all right.

Speaker 7 (06:15):
But again, Connerly was our first round pick two years ago.
He's playing right tackle. Everything is going to be, how
is this offensive line? Can the defense improve? And more
than anything, can Jayden stay healthy?

Speaker 2 (06:26):
So you got Daniel's back, Tunsell down, lots of new players,
a little confusion I'm hearing, but overall, what's the vibe? Like, yeah,
I mean, you talk to like your commander friend friends. Like,
is everyone like, yeah, like let them underestimate us. Or
is there a lot of doom and gloom? Because as
a Niners fan, my, my friends are split. Half of
them are like, stay healthy and we can go all
the way. And others like we're old as hell.

Speaker 1 (06:47):
We're done.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
I would say haven't, A healthy Jaden Daniels has to
still bring some excitement. But what are your thoughts, man?

Speaker 7 (06:54):
My thoughts on that are exactly what you said. I
think as long as Jaden plays, our fan base knows
we got a chance in every game. The schedule is
tough this year, but I'd say the vibes were actually
really good. Like I said, a bunch of new starters
on defense. The offseason was going really well. And then
Tunsell goes down. And then Jaden has the cease and
desist situation. And it's like, okay, the vibes are starting

(07:15):
to maybe go down a little bit.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
And got to be better than last year. So something positive, right?
Or maybe not. The Jaden number five stuff. Oh, yeah.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
It did create a lot of good fun on social media.
I saw it when Dolly Parton passed away.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
He handled it well. He sort of dismissed it.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
It's nine to 459 because even Dolly was like, oh,
five for Jaden.

Speaker 1 (07:33):
Yeah, five for Jaden Daniels.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
But he did sort of squash it that same day.
And put it to rest saying, hey, that was my people.
That wasn't me.

Speaker 1 (07:40):
I was like lawyers and my mom and everybody else.
Not me.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
So it was a tiny distraction. But we moved on
quick from that. This is a quick news cycle. So
JB is here. Our resident Commanders fan. Before we go
through all 17, we'll zip through the schedule. Schedule watching.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
Everyone in this room.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
NFC East, who sticks out to you? Are we back
to the Eagles until someone proves me otherwise? Or DB,
do you feel like the Cowboys have stepped it up?

Speaker 1 (08:08):
I love Dallas.

Speaker 8 (08:10):
On my Sunday show, I've been revealing a division winner
for the past four or five weeks, and Dallas was
my pick in the NFC East.

Speaker 1 (08:17):
What's putting them over the edge this year for you, Dan?

Speaker 8 (08:20):
Yeah, their additions on just defense that they made throughout
last year, like even bringing in Quinnen Williams. I love
Caleb Downs from... as you guys know from Ohio State. Yeah,
they're going to be much better defensively, and they're already
good offensively.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
There's speculation that people say, like, why are we forgetting
that they could be a top-five offense in the NFL?

Speaker 1 (08:40):
Yeah, they could be a top-one offense in the NFL.
There was a headline like a week ago. I think
FS1 or ESPN is like, is Dallas the best offense?
I'm like, you know, like... They led the NFL in
passing yards last year.

Speaker 4 (08:51):
In DB last week, besides talking about Caleb Downs from
the Ohio State, we're also talking about Barham. who's got
the green dot already and is a rookie standout. So
they had a good draft. I'm also high. on the Cowboys.
But I know you Covino are interested to see what
the giants do. They could easily double their window.

Speaker 1 (09:08):
I mean, they could be a lot of fun this year.

Speaker 2 (09:10):
I mean, with scataboo, he just wants to bang his
head together with scataboo and Jackson dart. Go get Taylor
ham together. Jackson dart. I mean, how could you not
like this team or be excited about him? Odell Beckham
juniors bringing a lot of excitement back. Like there's a
lot of people that really think he could add a
lot of weaponry A lot of leadership to the squad.

Speaker 4 (09:29):
Juice from their new head coach. Maybe not that speech
we all heard, but yeah.

Speaker 8 (09:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (09:34):
But I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if the giants
are easily an eight win team.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
Suddenly, but you know, are they better than the commanders?
That's what we're going to figure out. You got the Eagles.
You got the Cowboys. Let's go over.

Speaker 5 (09:47):
Hmm.

Speaker 1 (09:48):
The commander's schedule. You said the Jaden Daniels health, right?

Speaker 2 (09:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (09:51):
I saw a stat pop up on one of the TVs.
Just now? It said, when trailing.

Speaker 2 (09:55):
I'm sorry. I'm distracted by Field Yates' coif. That is
quite a head of hair. That dude has a salad, bro.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
When trailing in the fourth quarter.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
when you don't have Jaden Daniels, you ran the ball
more than any other team at a, at a clip
of like three yards of carry in the fourth one trailing.
So he didn't have really a solution to get back
in any games.

Speaker 1 (10:15):
Without Jaden Daniels. He's clutch.

Speaker 7 (10:17):
Like that was, that's what he was known for that
first year is those comeback wins. And obviously we saw
with the bears last year too. I don't think that's
necessarily sustainable, but, So it's just like we have a
new offense. David Blau takes over for Cliff, the former quarterback.
So there is some excitement on offense. But again, it's
I can't hammer this point down enough. Jaden being healthy

(10:37):
is number one. He just has to play.

Speaker 2 (10:39):
Can you find let's see if we could find let's
go week by week. We find eight wins because Vegas
has him at seven and a half or let's we
find nine wins. Is this a nine and eight possible
like again for a wild card reference?

Speaker 1 (10:51):
They were five and twelve last year. Okay.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
And they were just above the Giants, who were 4-13.
So 5-12 last year. Could they get eight wins?

Speaker 1 (10:59):
Where are they again? Where does Vegas have them?

Speaker 6 (11:02):
Oh, 7.5.

Speaker 2 (11:02):
7.5?

Speaker 1 (11:02):
All right, let's go.

Speaker 2 (11:03):
All right, so our buddy JB, our resident Commanders fan,
we start at Philadelphia week one.

Speaker 7 (11:08):
Okay, so this is going to make me sound like
a big homer, but I have a take on why
this could be a win and why I think it's
going to be a win. Is the Eagles offense has
not been good in training camp and preseason. I don't
know if I trust them yet. I think this game
is going to be ugly. So if there's any week
that we can beat the Eagles, it's week one.

Speaker 1 (11:25):
So I'll give us the win. All right. I don't
mind that. All right. At the Cowboys. Loss. That's going
to be a loss. I don't think our secondary can
keep up with them.

Speaker 2 (11:34):
Seattle in Seattle. No, actually, you're home against Seattle. And
by the way, Rich, do you agree so far? So far, yeah.

Speaker 1 (11:40):
I think, yeah.

Speaker 2 (11:40):
Those division battles, the NFC, no matter who the personnel is,
you know, there's a reputation sometimes, like Yankees, Red Sox.

Speaker 1 (11:46):
The players could change, but that rivalry just is there.

Speaker 2 (11:48):
I think the NFC East just has this weird vibe
where no matter who's in the uniforms, they play tough.

Speaker 1 (11:54):
It's like... no one ever you know no one ever
owns everyone.

Speaker 2 (11:57):
Else in that division for some reason so seattle are
you gonna take an l there or what.

Speaker 7 (12:01):
Yeah i'm gonna take an i'm gonna take an l
we had sunday night football there or same situation last
year and that's when jayden's elbow snapped and that was
also darnold going 18 for 18 with four touchdowns in
the first half.

Speaker 1 (12:12):
Look at them by your smile darnold is our father.

Speaker 8 (12:14):
It was also when the seahawks were the throwbacks uh
on the road they just looked gorgeous uniform matchup.

Speaker 7 (12:21):
We had the throwbacks on too it was nice but
not a not a pretty game.

Speaker 2 (12:24):
So far one and two but you could be oh
and three at this point so far all.

Speaker 1 (12:29):
Right now do we feel good about at home against
the cults.

Speaker 7 (12:32):
Uh yes that game's in london oh london and i
i don't buy the what the colts are doing this
year so i'll give us the win against all.

Speaker 1 (12:38):
Right two and two now the giants w okay three
and two three and two at my 49ers Loss. Okay.
Three and three. Three and three. All right. Eagles again.
Are we splitting? We're splitting.

Speaker 7 (12:50):
I don't think we're going to see a universe where
we ever sweep the Eagles.

Speaker 1 (12:54):
All right. So now we're three and four. Well, now
you play the Rams. So....

Speaker 7 (13:00):
Supersend the game. Just skip it. That's a loss. That's
a big loss. Three and five.

Speaker 1 (13:05):
Three and five. But now you go to the Giants
and you feel good against the Giants. Thursday night football.
Thursday against the Giants. Beating the Giants again. All right.
Four and five. Four and five. Now you're playing at
home against the Bengals. You're four and five.

Speaker 2 (13:17):
You're assuming Burrow, Chase, everyone's healthy at this point.

Speaker 1 (13:19):
How do we feel there?

Speaker 7 (13:21):
So my favorite game of 2024 was Monday Night Football
against the Bengals. That was kind of Jayden's coming out party.
And this is also Monday Night Football, but we're going
to lose this one.

Speaker 1 (13:30):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (13:30):
So four and six. I think JB's being pretty realistic here.
But I know why, because he sees what's coming after that.
Cardinals and Titans back to back.

Speaker 1 (13:39):
Win-win. All right.

Speaker 2 (13:40):
So now all of a sudden you're six and six
with Five games to go. These five games will determine
where you're at, essentially.

Speaker 1 (13:49):
It's a tough five. Because realistically, I think we... That's
not that bad. You got like two tough games. Texans, tough.
I fear for Jaden in that game. Yeah, that's a
tough game. That's a loss. All right, so six and seven.
But now Falcons. W yeah.

Speaker 2 (14:04):
So now you're pretty good. Now you're seven and seven
with three games to go. And again, guys, this is
completely accurate in how it's going to happen. There's no,
we are experts. This is perfectly how it's going to
go down, but you know, you got, they got seven
and seven and you finish with at Minnesota at Jacksonville
and then home against the Cowboys.

Speaker 7 (14:25):
I'm going to say Minnesota is a very Flores had
us in, in, That game was rough last year. I'm
going to give the Vikings the win on that one.
And then I'm going to say Jacksonville is going to
be really good, but we'll take that game. And then
a loss to the Cowboys. So eight and nine, eight
and nine is where I have us.

Speaker 2 (14:40):
That's a, that's, I love that you're a realistic fan
and a step in the right direction. But again, a
lot of young players, a lot of new players is
sunny for the commanders. So, yeah, man, I liked it.
Pretty realistic. Your thoughts? 877-99 on Fox. That's how we're
looking at the Commanders this season.

Speaker 1 (14:56):
Great job, JB. JB, good stuff, brother. Thanks for having
me on.

Speaker 2 (14:59):
And he has his Commander sweatshirt on, so he's all
fired up, man. It's that time of year. People are representing.

Speaker 1 (15:04):
Look at Rich.

Speaker 2 (15:05):
His 49ers shirt. Probably talking about it in the sauna
today at the gym. He just came back from the gym.

Speaker 1 (15:11):
Yeah, went to the gym. Probably chewing everybody's ear about
the Niners today. Well, you know what? There's some talk
of He met a Niner player there. Oh, yeah.

Speaker 2 (15:21):
Unless it was Love?

Speaker 1 (15:23):
Some guy, yeah. Number seven? Yeah, number seven. Yeah, yeah.
He's probably telling people that he kicks for the 49ers.
It's weird. I'm a down low.

Speaker 2 (15:31):
I met this guy, Love, in the sauna, and he
said if I zelled him $ 500, he would hook me
up with Niner's tickets.

Speaker 1 (15:37):
Weird. Made you a video, too? Yeah, yeah. So odd. But, no, so,
I mean, I think Niners, I'm optimistic.

Speaker 2 (15:44):
I just saw people saying fantasy football-wise, which, DB, I'm
excited to talk to you about fantasy in the next
week because Dan Byers, our fantasy football expert, he does
his weekend show.

Speaker 1 (15:53):
Stribling. People are saying that late round.

Speaker 2 (15:55):
Like, he could be a guy that could be a
weapon for the 49ers, and I'm intrigued to see how
everything unfolds. Is there controversy about him, though? Because you
seem real high on him. I've heard great things about him,
but when Marvin from the Dan Patrick show was on
our show, He sort of rolled his eyes at him.
I mean, again, is there controversy there? I thought he
was a solid.

Speaker 1 (16:15):
Get for you.

Speaker 2 (16:16):
I don't know if there's controversy, but I mean, every
young wide receiver the Niners have got recently hasn't panned.
Remember Ricky Pearsall we thought was going to be great
and just he's out for the year and Ricky Pearsall.

Speaker 7 (16:25):
Yeah, I feel like the thing with Stribling is when
he was drafted, everyone was kind of like, oh, this
is a reach. And then it came out that in
the NFL, they viewed him as a higher ranked player.
So I don't know if there's controversy. I think that
Mike Evans, how many games is he going to play?
Christian Kirk, how many games is he going to play?
If Stribling is good, he's going to have an opportunity.
So I think that good in fantasy, good player.

Speaker 2 (16:46):
And it is funny that going into a draft, the
draft editor, like, what do we know?

Speaker 1 (16:51):
Now, then.

Speaker 2 (16:52):
when football teams around the NFL, like, Oh no, he was,
he was drafted around the right spot. Then all of
a sudden we change our mind.

Speaker 1 (16:57):
Like, Oh yeah, I guess, I guess so. So we'll
find out.

Speaker 2 (17:00):
Well, the football hype continues because coming up next, we
welcome showboy Mahomes and he has trivia questions.

Speaker 1 (17:07):
Perfect. You should have the answers. It's all multiple choice.
So it's easy. It's fun.

Speaker 2 (17:11):
And your chance to win our grilling prize pack. with
Showboy Mahomes, your chance to play, your chance to win
at 877-99 on Fox, 877-99 on Fox. And you got
to watch it because he's here in studio at Covino
and Rich FSR to watch at Covino and Rich FSR.
And we'll play it next right here on Fox Sports Radio.

NFL fans have about their team, the clean slate, the
new beginnings.

Speaker 1 (19:04):
Poor JB is going to be let down. But he's
so hopeful right now. You know? Cardinals fans got to
know they're going to win one game, right? You know what, man?

Speaker 2 (19:15):
That's going to be fun, though. I love that you
keep saying that because it's going to be fun to see.

Speaker 1 (19:19):
All right, so it's one and 16. We're going to
have to.

Speaker 4 (19:23):
Have Rich do something, some punishment when the Cardinals win
their second game.

Speaker 1 (19:27):
They're not going to win more than one game. All right, bet. Yeah.
What's the bet? They win their second game. You have
to wear a thong.

Speaker 2 (19:34):
Don't put it to you like that.

Speaker 1 (19:37):
Oh, boy. Um, man, I feel like, uh, you really
want that to happen. I was going to say, I'll
buy you guys lunch, but if you're having fun.

Speaker 2 (19:48):
Yeah, I was hoping for like, you know, some barbecue
or something.

Speaker 4 (19:52):
Mahomes is about to enter the studio. You're going to
scare him away right now.

Speaker 1 (19:56):
You want barbecue? Ryan wants sausage. Not a little pig
in the blanket. Not a little hot dog weenie. All right,
it's game time. All right, let's do this. Mahomes, showtime trivia.
Come on. Oh, man. The mostly lovable Patrick Mahomes. Truth is,

(20:17):
I want everybody to love me, not just the refs.
It's time for some NFL trivia. I'm here. I'm here.

Speaker 5 (20:24):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (20:25):
We know you're here.

Speaker 5 (20:26):
All right, Patrick Mahomes here to play Showtime Mahomes Trivia.

Speaker 4 (20:29):
All right, our FSR security walking our broke Patrick into
the main studio.

Speaker 1 (20:33):
Oh, there he is. What up, you broke ass fools?
You guys don't know anything about barbecue, man. I know
everything about barbecue, man. Jack's Snacks, you ever have that?
You're an expert now. That's right, man. Burn-ins. You guys
are talking hot dog weenies. What do you guys know?
You ever go to Oklahoma Joe's? Better believe I get VIP.
Do I ever go there? I get VIP, bro. VIP. Hey,
Patrick Mahomes here.

Speaker 2 (20:54):
I'm here.

Speaker 1 (20:54):
Hey, guys. You ready for the regular season to start
next week? Am I ready? Hell yeah. First Monday night
football game. Let's go.

Speaker 5 (21:00):
Look how pumped I am, man. And by the way,
happy to be here. Fox Sports Radio, Patrick Mahomes. I
just want to say to the love.

Speaker 1 (21:06):
Of my life, not you, sexy Ryan. I don't know
where your head's at, thongs. I'm not wearing no thong
for you, bro. But happy belated birthday to Brittany.

Speaker 5 (21:14):
I don't know if you saw that beautiful picture I
posted of me and Brittany yesterday. The love of my life.
I love her forever. And I just want her to
know it here on Fox Sports Radio on the best
show in the world. Covino and Rich, let's go.

Speaker 1 (21:26):
Thank you. Heartfelt. That's right, man. Just, you know, positivity.

Speaker 5 (21:29):
Like I said, you know, you've got your big dream
in about your 49ers and your Redskins.

Speaker 1 (21:34):
Don't be sleeping on the Chiefs. It's the comeback year.
You can't call them Redskins anymore.

Speaker 5 (21:38):
I'll call when I want because don't call to come back.
I've been here for years.

Speaker 1 (21:42):
Let's go.

Speaker 4 (21:42):
All right, let's meet the contestants. 27-time winner Rich Davis
right over there. Hey, let's go. And 23-time champion Dan
Byer in the house.

Speaker 5 (21:51):
Yeah, your Seahawks are real cute too, DB. I'm telling you,
it's the Chiefs here. You heard it here and now
on FSR.

Speaker 2 (21:58):
Okay.

Speaker 4 (21:58):
All right, and looking to win a CNR Grilling Apron
Prize Pack, a Tailgate Prize Pack we're calling it now.

Speaker 1 (22:03):
Let's go to the studio lines. Nick and Boise was
the first through. Hey, Nick. How we doing? What's up, buddy? Hey,
Nick and boys, you ever been to Barbacoa? Oh, I
sure have. Oh, yeah?

Speaker 5 (22:14):
Tell them you know me. You get VIP treatment, man.
Tell them Mahomes sent you, and then I'll hook you.

Speaker 1 (22:20):
Up to VIP booth. Nick, what do you do for
a living there in Idaho? I'm a construction worker. I'm
a carpenter. Nice, man.

Speaker 4 (22:26):
A lot of work these days. All right, rules for Showtime, Mahomes,
NFL trivia. The first contestant with two correct answers is
the champ. If there's a tie, we have a tiebreaker question.
Your name is your buzzer, but you've got to wait
until all three possible answers are read. If there's two
wrong answers in a row, we move on to the
next question.

Speaker 1 (22:42):
Are you ready? Let's get it on.

Speaker 6 (22:44):
I'm here.

Speaker 1 (22:45):
Round one.

Speaker 5 (22:45):
All right, it's good to be here. Football on the air,
Patrick Mahomes. Wish I had a receiver like this. Which
wideout holds the record for most receiving yards in a
single NFL game?

Speaker 1 (22:58):
Is it A, Calvin Johnson, B, Flipper Anderson, or C,
Mark Duper? Dan. Byer. It's Flipper Anderson. It is.

Speaker 5 (23:10):
Wow. Damn.

Speaker 1 (23:10):
That's right. 336 yards for the Rams in 89. Oh,
my God. I guess when you put Flipper Anderson as
one of the choices, he must be the answer. I
remember that. Was it a Sunday night game? I know
it was against the Saints for sure. I remember that.
All right. Your choices. Jerry Rice, Calvin Johnson, or Flipper Anderson.
Mark Duper was on the list, too.

Speaker 6 (23:27):
Oh, no.

Speaker 1 (23:27):
Duper's a good one. I just thought it was funny.
Flipper Anderson. What a name. All right. Byer on the
board as we go to round two.

Speaker 2 (23:34):
All right.

Speaker 5 (23:34):
Who's the youngest quarterback to ever start a Super Bowl? A, me,
Patrick Mahomes. B, Dan Marino.

Speaker 1 (23:42):
Or C, Ben Roethlisberger. Rich. Rich. I'll give him the tie.
Go ahead.

Speaker 8 (23:49):
Nick.

Speaker 1 (23:50):
I heard Nick. Oh, I'm going to go Ben Roethlisberger.
There you go. No. You're wrong. Wait, hold on. Yeah,
you both stink. Who's going to try to steal here?
What were the answers again?

Speaker 5 (24:03):
It was me, A, B, Dan Marino, and C, Ben Roethlisberger.

Speaker 1 (24:08):
Oh. I'll say Dan Marino.

Speaker 6 (24:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (24:10):
That's right. You got it. He was 23 years old,
127 days old, Super Bowl XIX.

Speaker 5 (24:13):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (24:13):
Yeah, 23 years, 127 days old.

Speaker 5 (24:14):
Oh.

Speaker 1 (24:23):
DB walks off with a win just like that. You
know what? I, you know, I think we got it wrong.
Superbowl winner not to play in the Superbowl.

Speaker 2 (24:31):
That's why I was like, because the Ben Roethlisberger is
like a fun fact, right?

Speaker 1 (24:34):
Youngest quarterback to win a Superbowl, but yeah, this is
the youngest quarterback to ever start a Superbowl. Hey Nick,
it was great. Great talking to Nick. Have fun in Idaho.
I appreciate it. Nick, we got games all throughout the week.
So try again.

Speaker 2 (24:48):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (24:49):
All right. You got it. Thank you. I came all
this way for like three minutes of fun. You mind
if I stick around or you guys got food in
the lobby? The hell am I going to do now?

Speaker 4 (25:00):
We have some great coffee in the blue kitchen.

Speaker 1 (25:02):
All right, guys. All right. Always fun. Thank you, brother.
Good luck this season. All right. You know what, man?
We got it. You heard it here. Patrick Mahomes. Later.
Thank you. Thank you, Mahomes.

Speaker 2 (25:14):
And by the way, that's a great. Opening game, Monday
Night Football. Mahomes is fired up.

Speaker 1 (25:19):
Just remember for a second. Yeah, Broncos, right?

Speaker 2 (25:21):
Yeah, remember at one point we weren't sure if Mahomes
was going to play, and we said, oh, man, the
NFL giving the Chiefs a primo game week one, and
we're like, well, what if Mahomes doesn't even play?

Speaker 1 (25:32):
That would be sort of a buzzkill. But, hey, there
he is, ready to go, week one. Showboy Mahomes, man.
I wonder what he's going to look like.

Speaker 2 (25:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (25:42):
You know what? We'll ask him next weekend. He's like,
what do you mean? I'm right here. So, yeah, that's
exciting to see for sure. No doubt.

Speaker 2 (25:50):
Now, listen, other things we're going to get to. You know,
let's go to DB's update, and then I have a
question about siblings in sports. Because there's a story Danny
G pointed out to us that, I mean, I don't
know if you can feel bad for anyone that's in
the National Football League, but there's a story that's a
little like, oh.

Speaker 1 (26:07):
Did you say siblings or striplings? That's a good one. DB,
what's up, buddy?

Speaker 8 (26:12):
A lot going on today, including in Los Angeles, where
Rams owner Stan Kroenke is going to buy the Angels. Yes,
the LA Angels are going to be bought by the
owner of the LA Rams, who also owns the Denver
Nuggets and the Colorado Avalanche and Arsenal in the Premier League.
Price tag, $ 4 billion, according to reports. Artie Moreno had
owned the Angels since 2003. Kroenke and his sports entertainment

(26:35):
company are likely to take over in early 2027.

Speaker 2 (26:38):
Steve Cohen, no longer the richest owner in Major League Baseball.
He has a little, I think it's $ 24 billion to
$ 23 billion.

Speaker 1 (26:46):
Must be rough, huh, DB? Yeah, right. I feel really
bad about him.

Speaker 2 (26:49):
Steve Cohen must be like, I only have $ 23 billion.

Speaker 1 (26:52):
Bill Shakin, who covers... It writes for the L.A. Times.

Speaker 8 (26:55):
It said that Zach Nito and Mike Trout had reached
out to some Rams players to find out about Kroenke's ownership.

Speaker 1 (27:04):
Wow. They got good news or good reviews.

Speaker 2 (27:07):
Cool.

Speaker 1 (27:08):
So who knows?

Speaker 8 (27:09):
Maybe that's why Mike Trout didn't want to be traded
or was never traded. We shall see. Anyway, in other
news today, Packers GM Brian Gutekund said that they have
not seen an alleged video as part of the criminal
case against running back Josh Jacobs. Jacobs placed on the
commissioner's exempt list as he faces misdemeanor charges of battery
and criminal damage stemming from an alleged incident with his
then-girlfriend in May. Lions placed running back Isaiah Pacheco on

(27:33):
IR with a back injury. Colts GM Chris Ballard said
wide receiver Keenan Allen will play in week one despite
his DUI arrest last week.

Speaker 6 (27:41):
14 years in the league and no issues. Decorated career,
decorated teammate. As you know, our relationship with Phillip Rivers.
I know Phillip. It holds him in extremely high regard.
We feel good about who he is. Unequivocally feel good
about who Keenan Allen is.

Speaker 8 (27:58):
Tony Romo pleaded no contest to his OWI charges in
Wisconsin today. The former quarterback turned broadcaster also released a statement.
Guys saying that he's going to seek help as he
had been relying on pain medications and alcohol. to deal
with the back injuries that he suffered in his NFL career.
He had his driving privileges revoked for six months. You
can get those OBJ number 13 jerseys out for the

(28:20):
Giants because he'll wear 13 again in the regular season.
Odell Beckham Jr. wore number three during the preseason in
his return to the team that drafted him a decade ago.
Now he's back to wearing the one and the three.
Men's singles today at the U.S. Open, Taylor Fritz, a
winner in straight sets. He's the ninth seed, 22nd seed
in American Madison Keys. On the women's side, one in
straight sets and in golf. The President's Cup takes place

(28:41):
later this month at Madonna Country Club just outside of Chicago.
Jackson Coivin, one of the rookies on the PGA Tour
standout from Auburn University and won a PGA Tour event,
was one of the six captain's picks today. by Brant
Snedeker to compete again in a couple of weeks at Medina.

Speaker 1 (28:57):
Guys, back to you. No, thank you, DB. Thanks, Dan.
By the way, they had started to sell a Beckham Jr. No.
3 jersey. I just looked it up. So if you
happen to buy one, just get a piece of white
masking tape or something. Right next to it. You got
the one. One's an easy one to do. All right.
Thank you, Dan Beyer.

Speaker 2 (29:13):
You see how much hype is around the fact that
he looks different. It's like, yeah, he has no beard now.
People age a little bit. He just looks a little
trimmer than you remember him when he originally played with
the Giants. But there's a whole thing of people like,
what happened to him? He looks so different.

Speaker 1 (29:28):
He's just one of those dudes that changes his looks
up a lot. No doubt.

Speaker 2 (29:31):
So I'm excited to see what goes on as long
as he plays well. right junior so all right cool
listen uh danny g brothers brothers brothers got a hug
um speaking of brothers you ever work with your brother
that's a question to think about um my brother and
i are far enough apart in age where it never
made sense though my brother did intern at At SiriusXM

(29:54):
for a minute.

Speaker 1 (29:55):
I totally forgot that when we worked there. Yeah, that's
where I really got to know your brother.

Speaker 2 (29:58):
Yeah, I think that working with family, they always say, tricky, right?
Especially businesses, restaurants, companies. Because there's that weird line, like,
can you really treat a family member the same way
you treat an employee or a boss or a co-worker?

Speaker 1 (30:14):
They're your family.

Speaker 2 (30:15):
There's no lines. There's no rules with family. Justin Herbert's
little brother, Patrick, Patrick Herbert.

Speaker 1 (30:22):
Patrick Herbert.

Speaker 2 (30:23):
Now, if there was nobody, if there was no Justin Herbert,
Patrick Herbert making the practice squad as a tight end
for the Chargers would be the coolest story in the
Herbert family, in the history of the Herbert name. But
it's got to be tough being Patrick Herbert. Justin's the guy, superstar,
and he's got a hot girlfriend.

Speaker 1 (30:45):
I got to look up Patrick Herbert. Jeez Louise. They
were teammates during their Oregon days.

Speaker 4 (30:50):
So this is going to be the first time they
reunite on the same team since then.

Speaker 2 (30:55):
But Rich is right. If it wasn't for Justin, he'd
be the coolest guy in the family. How strong are
the genetics?

Speaker 1 (31:01):
It's like Seth Curry, right? You made it. You're pretty good.
But your brother, Steph, that sucks. Oh, yeah. Genetics are strong.
You know how your brother, Tommy, is like a mutant
version of you? Yeah.

Speaker 2 (31:16):
By the way, the funny part is, Danny, do you
know the mutant theory? It's the mutant brother theory. Mutant
sibling theory. Whatever sibling you know Whichever sibling you know
first is the one that's embedded in your brain.

Speaker 1 (31:28):
That's the standard, right?

Speaker 2 (31:29):
So if you met my brother, which you have, my
brother Jim. I think you met my brother Jim. He's
just like an off version. He'd be like, oh, it's
like a weird version of Rich. It's just a mutant version.
Like you meet Kavino's brother Tommy, like, oh, it's like
a weird version.

Speaker 1 (31:42):
Like Arnold and Danny DeVito?

Speaker 2 (31:43):
Yeah, but the flip side, no, no, because the flip
side works too. Like if my brother's friends meet me,
I'm just the weird version of him in a way.

Speaker 1 (31:51):
You know what I mean?

Speaker 2 (31:51):
Because they only know him. So because we all know
Justin Herbert. star quarterback, Madison beer. And you know, you,
you know, just that you look at Patrick, you're like, Oh.

Speaker 1 (32:01):
Handsome guy.

Speaker 2 (32:01):
He looked at 25 years old. Looks just like, like
a weird version of Justin Herbert. But again, you gave
the Steph and Seth analogy with the Currys. Had he done,
if Seth doesn't have Steph as a brother.

Speaker 1 (32:15):
He's almost cooler.

Speaker 2 (32:17):
I know that sounds ridiculous. Cause how can you justify it?
Not being cool that you're making millions of dollars in
the NBA.

Speaker 1 (32:22):
It's still awesome.

Speaker 2 (32:24):
But there's something to be said about when you're the
Ozzie Canseco. When you're the Billy Ripken. But those guys,
Ozzie wasn't really that great. I'm sure he had all
the potential in the world. But, you know, Seth is
really good. Patrick could be good. The thing is, how old? Oh, well,
there's three years apart because Justin Herbert's 28. So there's

(32:46):
a three-year difference. He has time to catch up. He's
on the practice squad.

Speaker 1 (32:50):
Good for him. And you know what?

Speaker 2 (32:50):
If he makes the squad at some point due to
an injury or getting called in or something, good for him.
So just an interesting thought that when you are the
younger brother or the unknown sibling, do you guys know
that there's a third property brother?

Speaker 1 (33:05):
There is. I thought it was Rich, actually, at first.
Shut your mouth.

Speaker 2 (33:07):
Because honestly, you fit in more with the Property Brothers
than the actual third Property Brother. The third Property Brother
doesn't look like the... He looks like he should be
in Fallout Boy. He's like a rocker with tattoos and
spiky hair. At least he used to. I don't know
what he looks like now.

Speaker 1 (33:19):
I think he does.

Speaker 2 (33:20):
But yeah, he had the whole emo thing. So we
wish Patrick Herbert the best. As we all know, Justin,
little bro Patrick on the Chargers practice squad. And I'm
sure the family's... You're super proud. And just imagine being
a dad or a mom and your boys are on
the same NFL team.

Speaker 1 (33:40):
That's like good. That's like, it sounds corny, but that's like.

Speaker 2 (33:42):
Your dreams are made of. And you never know who's
going to step up. I mean, look at the Watts,
look at the Kelsey's. I mean, these may be good.

Speaker 4 (33:50):
And like Rich said, if he does get a chance
to get stepped up to the active roster, then they'll
get to travel. And that's gotta be cool to have
a family member, As part of the traveling party for
an NFL football team.

Speaker 2 (34:01):
And I could promise you without looking it up, I
was just about to, I don't think I need to.
There's never been a scenario where brothers threw and caught
a pass together in the National Football League. That's a
good one. I mean, if Patrick Herbert gets called into
one game, Danny G, because there's a couple bang-ups or
guys on the aisle for a week or so.

Speaker 1 (34:21):
Yeah, history could be made. I don't think there's ever
been a brother-to-brother. Well, there has been.

Speaker 2 (34:27):
Person to person, meaning, remember when Kurt Hennig threw to himself?

Speaker 1 (34:31):
Stop it. That doesn't count? No, it doesn't count. But
we've seen, though.

Speaker 2 (34:34):
We've seen the Kelsey's play each other in the Super Bowl.
We saw the Watt brothers line up on opposite teams.

Speaker 1 (34:40):
You're right, Rich. It's coming up as a no on that. No.
So you know what? That is something I think we
should all root for just to be a really cool story. Yeah,
that would be really, really cool, man.

Speaker 2 (34:48):
Because I think the coolest clip in one of the
coolest clips in the history of sports is when Ken
Griffey Jr. cuts off his dad in the outfield to
catch a fly ball, and then they hit back-to-back home runs.
And you know the story after that? Ken Griffey Sr.
didn't really find it all that funny. And when he
got to the dugout, he said, give me your keys.

Speaker 1 (35:06):
He punished him. That's a great story. I love that.

Speaker 4 (35:11):
By the way, it has happened in college. Max Johnson
threw a TD to his brother, Jake Johnson, at Texas
A & M back in 2023.

Speaker 1 (35:18):
Let's go see college. That's great. But NFL, different. Nothing
documented in the pros. So, hey, let's root for that, guys.
That's a fun little story, right?

Speaker 2 (35:25):
Justin to Patrick Herbert, 10-yard gain, first down.

Speaker 1 (35:28):
Congrats, man.

Speaker 2 (35:29):
All right, we got more Kavino and Rich and more
NFL next right here on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (35:59):
Cisco. The backstory.

Speaker 2 (36:01):
I know Rich is a huge fan of the backstory.
By the way, Rich's dad still thinks this is about flip-flops,
this song.

Speaker 1 (36:07):
Oh, the thong song, Rich.

Speaker 2 (36:08):
Oh, yeah.

Speaker 1 (36:08):
I want my thongs to the pool. Oh, yeah. That
is Covino. I'm Rich.

Speaker 2 (36:12):
And as you hear Ryan play a little instrumental of
the thong, the thong, thong, thong song, Cisco's sitting in
the studio.

Speaker 1 (36:18):
I just love backstories of music, right?

Speaker 2 (36:20):
You always hear these stories about, like, Steven Tyler used
a little packet of sugar.

Speaker 1 (36:25):
For sweet emotion. For percussion and sweet emotion.

Speaker 2 (36:28):
You just heard Dolly Parton used her nails in 9
to 5. It was Cisco in the studio, and they're
trying to figure out the hook of this song. They're
trying to figure out what to go with this sweet
beat they came up with, essentially, this song.

Speaker 1 (36:43):
And his buddy came in, and this is the 2000.

Speaker 2 (36:45):
He's like, yo, that girl last night, yo, she gave
me that thong, thong, thong, thong. And Cisco's like, yo,
say that again. And that's sort of how the thong
song came about. Thong, thong, thong, thong. And until this day,
Rich still wears one. So we're Covino and Rich on
Fox Sports Radio. There is a legendary story about the
Jason Giambi thong, the gold thong, if you want to

(37:05):
look that up. It was a slump buster back in
the day. You could ask Derek Jeter. Right now we're

Speaker 1 (37:29):
All right. Now, my wife just sent me a viral video.

Speaker 2 (37:32):
Have you guys seen this one where it's a guy
that gives his wife a letter and it's like, Kenzie,
I want to inform you that I'm giving my two
weeks notice.

Speaker 1 (37:40):
The past several months I've been helpful, engaging, and a
loving husband.

Speaker 2 (37:44):
However, I regret to inform you I'm putting in my
two-week notice, meaning like the NFL's starting and I'm going
to be unavailable every Sunday from so-and-so to so-and-so. And
we always talk about how when you're in a relationship
and you haven't dated someone during the NFL season, it
is interesting to see how certain— It was like.

Speaker 1 (37:58):
A dream come true until football season started.

Speaker 2 (38:01):
You may, you know, there may be a woman in
your life— He was like the perfect man until football started.
If you date a woman that doesn't come from a
football family— She may be shocked at your football interests. Like, luckily,
my wife's dad's a big NFL fan. But I've dated
girls whose dads aren't into football, and they're.

Speaker 1 (38:19):
Like, ugh.

Speaker 4 (38:21):
Yeah, my better half didn't come from a football family,
but she's been so supportive. That's one of the reasons
I liked her right away the first football season. She's like,
you know what? I'm going to be game day wifey,
and I'm going to get all the snacks ready. She
had her Josh Jacobs jersey on. I'm like, man, this
girl's a keeper.

Speaker 1 (38:35):
That's it, man. That jersey wasn't though.

Speaker 2 (38:37):
You know what's weird is Danny G makes her keep
it on.

Speaker 1 (38:41):
That's it. That's where it's going to put on the Jacobs. Oh, yeah.
She's got the Fernando on now. Now, quick reminder.

Speaker 2 (38:47):
Quick reminder, tomorrow's Wednesday already, so we do midweek major,
getting you ready with the biggest stories in sports and
pop culture. But before we call it a day, let's
talk about Peyton Tolley and this Dominic Canzone play that's
sweeping the nation right now. There's two baseball plays from
yesterday that deserve note, and I think any clip I've
seen of Peyton Tolley, pitcher of the Red Sox, 8-6.

Speaker 1 (39:10):
ERA in the low threes, sweet mustache.

Speaker 2 (39:13):
He seems like... the most lovable dude in Major League Baseball.
The type of guy you wish was on your team.
He really is just fantastic. The viral clip is, you know,
he's pitching, obviously, for the Red Sox. Dominic can zone
is he's in the batter's box. He hits a ground
ball right back to Peyton. And, you know, instead of

(39:34):
throwing it to first, he just sort of blocks the baseline.

Speaker 1 (39:37):
And hugs him.

Speaker 2 (39:38):
And he puts his, he puts his hands out and
Dominic goes in and they, and they hug it out
because he sort of had nowhere else to go. Got
nowhere else to go, and that's gone viral as a result.

Speaker 1 (39:50):
And, you know, it was organic.

Speaker 2 (39:51):
It was funny, and it was so perfect because at
least Canzone leaned into it. And Peyton Tully's been known
this year to be really one of the more likable
baseball players with the media and the press.

Speaker 1 (40:03):
Like, everything he says is said with a lot of heart,
and he's funny. He's like, I don't know, man. I
just wanted a hug.

Speaker 2 (40:08):
Like, he's funny, and there's a touching story. I mentioned
it briefly the other day where on his glove– He
has stitched in, you're so pretty, because his mother, who
passed away from cancer, used to say that to try
to embarrass him in high school. Like, honey, you're so pretty.
And he embraced it. It was like a joke with
him and his mom. So now on his glove, don't
cry when you hear the story. You're so pretty is

(40:30):
on his baseball glove. And the other story.

Speaker 1 (40:34):
Oh, the Orioles. Danny, I almost had to check if
this is AI. A leaping grab. One of the best
home run robberies of the season for sure. And that
home run robbery by the Orioles. It was that by
Colton Couser. Colton Couser catching that ball. That's a hell
of a catch, man. It would have been a walk-off
homer that he robbed. And you know what?

Speaker 2 (40:50):
It keeps them at 69 and 69, 500. They are
a half a game out of the wild card race.
And I don't know if you could feel more pumped
than he did in.

Speaker 1 (41:00):
That moment because it was a game.

Speaker 2 (41:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (41:02):
Game winning game, saving game, everything. Super dope catch.

Speaker 2 (41:05):
When you when you look at the wild card situation,
there's going to be a team that gets hot. And
right now, I believe the Orioles have won four in
a row and they're at 500 and they're right on
the heels of that third wild card. So, you know,
plays like that, moments like that, game saving home run
robberies like that.

Speaker 1 (41:22):
By the way, he kept the ball.

Speaker 4 (41:23):
He made sure to keep the ball after that game-winning grab,
which is already being called one of the greatest catches
in Orioles history.

Speaker 1 (41:29):
Rich isn't alone. Part of the story was a lot
of people thought that couldn't have been real. Like, no way.
Because he does a split. He does a split.

Speaker 4 (41:36):
And his rear is up against the top of the
wall as he's doing the splits.

Speaker 1 (41:40):
It was awesome. It was an awesome, awesome moment.

Speaker 2 (41:42):
Well, enjoy your Taco Tuesday. Tomorrow, we are halfway through.

Speaker 1 (41:47):
Back in action.

Speaker 2 (41:49):
One week from the start of the football season. And
I'll tell you what. Countdown's on.

Speaker 1 (41:53):
Can't wait. So enjoy your Tuesday night. First day of September.
Until tomorrow. Arrivederci, baby. See you in the promised land.
Let's go. First of the month.
