You're listening to Bill Handle on demandfrom KFI AM six fortys and this was
old, old, old school thinking. So the father had to figure out
a way to kill himself, andhe ended up putting his head under a
pile driver at a construction site, and everybody in Japan went, yay,

(00:21):
that's good, good saving face.Well, at the same time not having
a face because the pile drive incident. And I just wanted to share that
with you. I just thought aboutsome of these memories come back. That
is not an untrue story either theJapanese and now Handle on the news.
Ladies and gentlemen, here's Bill Handle, and good morning everybody. Bill Handle.

(00:49):
Here. It is a Monday morning, May thirteen, and we start
another week. We're getting there towardssummer. Starts about mid June, doesn't
it the first day of summer Juneand twenty first, let me get dis
muted. Yeah, but it seemsfor some reason, is it heats up.

(01:11):
It sort of smells feels like summer, and you know before June twenty
first, you get out there,it's one hundred and fifty degrees. You're
fitzing like crazy. You go,okay, welcome to southern California. Oh
it's June twentieth. Oh, thereyou go. You better all right?
Oh, God forbid? You knowyou have starts of the week. I
know. I'm sorry, Petros,I mean to get that wrong. Yeah,

(01:36):
that's true. Petros is here obviouslyin lou of Neil. Neil is
what he's filling in, uh forGary and Shannon this morning. Okay,
so you're here today and tomorrow, right, Petros, I believe so.
Yes, unless I'm asked to domore, which I'll do. No,

(01:57):
it's excellent. I love having youhere. All right. Let me say
a quick hello. There's Amy,Hi, Bill, Hi, and Cono.
Good morning, yeah, and goodmorning, good morning, good morning.
I have to share with you,and said, did you have a
good time over the weekend? Andusually eh, oh, let me tell

(02:17):
you what happens Saturday. What aday? All right? Jersey Boys at
Lamarada Theater. Okay, that's forstarters. I'm back at my Frankie Valley.
Yes it is. He's still alot. He is, I think
he is. And he's still heis still performing, which is kind of
interesting. So Frankie Valley, thestory of Frankie Valley and the Four Seasons,

(02:40):
Jersey Boys True story and of courseit's a musical. And when you
talk about a musical based on themusic of Frankie Valley and the Four Seasons,
it's phenomenal. And so go tosee Jersey Boys at Lamarada, ending
with dinner at the end of WhiteHouse. I got to tell you that

(03:02):
is a Sunday. I had anex girlfriend that his family took me there
once at the Anaheim White House.Oh man, if you haven't been there,
you've got to go. I mean, this is seriously good food.
It's a destinations not particularly expensive, not insane, but the food is nothing

(03:23):
short of spectacular. What's your favoritemusical ever? Bill? Uh? You
know what. There's so many, but Le Miz would be up at the
top. It's everybody's favorite musical.Moulan Rouge has become a real favorite.
That's the newest one. And thenI go to all the old ones.
Bout Showboat nineteen twenty seven first one. Then you have Paul Ropeson ooh there

(03:49):
River the White Boys play yeah prettymuch, and then you have you know,
then the great Rogers and Hammerstein numbersand is that and dolls? I
think guys and dolls and then you'vegot Irving Berlin, you know, South
Pacific, Oklahoma. I mean youlook at for example, you run into

(04:10):
Oklahoma, the first four songs orstandards that everybody sings. I mean just
it's completely insane. So corners ashigh as an elephant's side bill. Yes,
let's God, good for you, good for you. So it's I
gotta tell you what a weekend thatwas. And so there was I was
trying to think at the musicals wassee, the problem with musical musicals is

(04:33):
it's a great American songbook and theproblem is that young people are not going.
So I go backstage. I alwaysdo to take photos because Lamarada,
I'm very close to Tom McCoy andKathy Rigby, who are the producers of
all these musicals. The whole Enchiladafrom Lamarada, Oh very good. And

(04:54):
it was so I went there andI had to tell you there was no
one in the theater that way iseither not gay or under one hundred and
forty years old. And we've gotto expand the audience for musical theater.
You have to a musical theater herein southern California is literally some of the

(05:14):
best musical theater. It's as goodas anything on Broadway, and Lamarade is
at the top of the heap,so I'm going to suggest you go all
right. Oh, by the way, I have some Instagram stuff that's going
up this morning of me at atLamarader at the theater. I went to
a musical with you once. Whatdid we see? You don't remember?
No, we saw in Long Beachat the Carpenter Theater. We saw the

(05:39):
Sweeney Todd Yeah, yeah, Iget to start long. The problem with
Long Beach is the aisles are sonarrow and the doors going into the theater
are so narrow. And I'm noteven going to talk to you about the
joke on that one. Okay,Petro started laughing. I'm sorry, it's

(06:00):
enough musical talk. Yeah. No, I couldn't go all day. Yeah,
I know a Karen Carpenter joke,which you really can't do. It's
just so much in bad taste.I was watching her play the drums the
other day on the video. Oh, I was wondering, she's kind of
dead and that's impressive. Yeah, she could drum now, tremendous talent.
Talented talent and her brother, youknow, very talented and they built that

(06:23):
auditorium at Long Beach and they wentto Long Beach State and they built that
auditorium. All Right, guys,we've got a lot to cover today.
Enough enough of this kind of talk. Let's do it handle on the news
with Amy Petros and me lead story. All right, Star Witness today this
morning, Michael Cohen said to testifyin the Trump hush money trial, and

(06:45):
he's going to be it is goingto be the most interesting liar, liar
panson fire. And the prosecution isfirst going to introduce him as a liar.
Did you lie? Yes? Idid? Were you convicted? Yes?
I yes, I was. Didyou do jail time? Yes?
I was? Or yes I did? Are you lying? Now? Where

(07:06):
were you lying? Then? Iwas lying? Then? Why did you
lie? Because I was protecting theformer president? Do you expect us to
believe your lies? I expect youto believe the truth. When are you
telling you the truth? Now?It's going to be really interesting. They're
going to rip into him, andhe's got I gotta tell you. He

(07:29):
stays calm and just admits, yeah, I lied to protect the president.
I would have taken a bullet forhim. And now I don't we'll see
what we'll see. It's actually theprosecution that's going to set this up.
They cannot let the defense accuse himof anything that the prosecution does not already

(07:49):
put on the table and make theaccusation. So that's gonna be fun.
Is he in a sort of aStormy Daniels situation where they when they asked
her, do you hate him?And she said yes because last time,
Oh yeah, no he does.Oh he has, oh he has absolutely
hated Oh yeah, he'll say absolutelyI hate him. He was wearing a
T shirt on a TikTok video lastweek with that appeared to show the former

(08:13):
president behind bars. Yeah no,I mean he's uh, that'd be very
upfront about it. Yeah, Ihate him. Why because then all the
things he turned us back? Hedoesn't appreciate loyalty. I mean it just
there's a bunch of reasons. It'snot like Michael Cohen is alone in hating
the former president. All Right, one more and then we'll take a break.

(08:33):
Nowhere to run and nowhere to hide. Israeli forces have pushed deep into
what's left of the northern edge ofGaza to recapture an area they claim to
have defeated months ago, or theydefeated Hamas. Remember they pulled out of
the area in northern Gaza. Theysaid it was always part of their plan
to go back in as part ofa mop op operation. And then they're

(08:56):
also going in hitting the south andthey've got tanks and troops pushing across a
highway getting closer to a ground invasionof Raffia. Yeah, this is going
to be This is going to rupturethe relations between the United States as far
as the arms is concerned to Israel. And this is where Israel's going to

(09:18):
cross that line. Is the outand out, out and out invasion of
Raffa, which asked to an extent, already happened. They're hitting targets in
Rafa and we'll say and they saylimited. It is limited relative to what
they can do. So this thingis panning out this week and we're gonna
certainly keep our eyeballs on that one. Yeah. They walked out on Seinfeld.

(09:41):
At least a few dozen students walkedout on Jerry Steinfeld at the Duke
University commencement on Sunday. He wasgoing to deliver the commencement speech. And
you saw the videos on social mediaand all that. Vincent Price is the
name of the president of the DukeUniversity, which is pretty good. You

(10:01):
know, that's the guy that readthe thriller thing. And just real quickly,
there's something I want to say aboutthis one. I have not heard
one statement. And I didn't believethis. Well, I did believe this,
that there was nothing, that therewas no accusation of anti Semitism,

(10:22):
that Jerry Seinfeld was Jewish and hewas up on the stage and somehow the
the students were protesting against Palestine, not the fact that Jerry Seinfeld was Jewish,
even though he is a very firm, firm supporter of Israel. I'm

(10:43):
this I'm getting, which I thinkis good news. On the protest,
I'm not hearing a lot of antiSemitism. It's out there, but nothing
relative of what it could be.And he just went up there. Anyway,
I didn't know he got it atDuke Cusa. His two kids are
a Duke. I did not knowthat either. Yeah, and he's a
big booster of Duke, which meanshe gives them a lot of money.

(11:03):
What a shocker he gets an award. It's a very elite university and that
guy Duke invented cigarettes or helped inventcigarettes, or made them popular in the
United States in the nineteenth century.Didn't know that either. He called cigarettes
the poor man's luxury. Oh,once in a lifetime, lights light up

(11:30):
the sky and I missed him.So the Aurora borealis was visible as far
south as southern California, actually asfar south as San Diego because I was
a strong magnetic storm. I onlythought it was up in the Northern California
park it was supposed to be.But then I was a word on the
street. Yeah, but then peoplestarted looking out, and especially I think

(11:52):
Friday night was when it was.Did anybody notice that I didn't pay attention.
Yeah, we have lots of lotsof pictures on social media from people
who saw it, especially if likein the Big Bear area that you know,
where you're away from the city lights. Yeah, just you know,
GoF is a friend that has greencurtains. No, it's a little different
and you're done. Does the lightplay with the green and a certain reflects

(12:16):
you know, you just need agood lighting, a well lit room.
I never thought that this even happenedin the state of California. For twenty
years. Usually you go way upnorth for that. You know, there
are trips you take like Nova Scotiaare Aurora trips. You're on a ship,
or you're going up to Alaska oryou know Park. Well, what
happens if it's like the eclipse andthere's it's cloud cover and he's too bad,

(12:39):
then you miss it. Well, then you go back to the room
with green curtains. Here in awhite room with black curtains. Uh,
there's the guy with the pig kidneytransplant. Died Bill. He was sixty
two years old, and he diedmonths after becoming the world's first living recipient
of a genetically and pig kidney. But they're saying that that's not what killed

(13:03):
him. Well that's I guess that'sgood news except for the fact that he's
dead. I'm sure he doesn't agreewith that, but it is good news
because if you're talking about a geneticallyedited pig kidney and this works genetically edited
organs, you're done with people. You're done with waiting lists for people by
the tens of thousands who are dyingevery year for lack of organs. I'm

(13:28):
a huge, huge proponent of organdonation, and as I said many times,
we can wrap this up. Ican change it tomorrow. And that
is literally and I'm not exaggerating orjoking on this one. If you make
organ donation basically mandatory and you canopt out of organ donation, that changes
everything. Then boom, you knowyou're done. So you because no one

(13:52):
thinks about it. I've been anorgan donor for ever since, probably in
my twenties. Oh, I'd loveto get a piece of You're pancreas.
Uh yeah, yeah, what apiece of work that would be. Okay.
There are rumblings about who Trump willpick as a vice presidential running mate,

(14:15):
but over the weekend, true Trumpwent on to truth Social and said
Nikki Haley is not under consideration forthe VP slot, but I wish you're
well. So. Axios had citedtwo people familiar with the dynamic reporting that
Haley was in the running to beTrump's running mate. She wasn't very kind
to him either and did not endorsehim. There's and look at the people

(14:39):
that are lining up. I mean, you've got what half a dozen or
eight politicians, Tim Scott, You'vegot Marco Rubio that are dying to be
his vice president you watch Musical Chairsvideoed broadcast musical Chairs. When does he
have to say I? By theUH, by the convention, they'll name

(15:03):
it, they'll name a vice president. And it used to be that they
were separate. People used to beit was not the choice of the candidate.
No, they used to bring insome weirdo that they would try to
just fix the ticket with. Andwhen you look at it, they bring
in compromise candidates. No one thoughtHarry Truman was going to be the VP.

(15:26):
Quite often it's brought they're brought infor political purposes. Andrew Johnson,
Yeah, Andrew Johnson, also onLyndon Lyndon Johnson, LBJ was brought in
for Texas. Kennedy was going tolose Texas and he brought and he won
it. LBJ won it, andLBJ wanted to be the president and they

(15:48):
convinced him to be VP, andbelieve me, he was not a happy
camper. They hated each other andthen Kennedy got shot in Texas. Yeah,
so we'll see who's going to beThat's going to be a fun,
fun bit of Ledgermaine to see who'sgoing to be the VP, or at
least a VB candidate. You know, schools are bracing for widespread teacher layoffs

(16:12):
because all the money from the COVIDis going to finally run out. It's
going to all be used by theend of September. They have to be
used by the end of September. All that COVID federal funding, and that
created a sharp funding cliff as schoolsstruggle with widespread enrollment declines and inflation.
How come nobody wants to go toschool? Bill? Because school is not

(16:36):
what it used to be. Ofcourse you have to go to school,
but it's not the same place thatit is there isn't you know? It's
so weird. There isn't the samerespect. I know kids who they ditch
on a regular basis. I go, what is that about? You know?
They just don't care. I mean, I mean a lot do.
But it's a very different place. Were you a good student or one of

(17:00):
tho you weren't? No, Iwas a horrible student. Were you amy?
Were you a good student? Iwas decent. I could have been
better if I would have stayed Petros. Did you screw off a lot?
Yes? Okay, but I wasa football star, so okay. That
meant you're right, you were ya. True, it makes a whole,
It makes it. I went toI went to Berkeley on a full scholarship,
and I had no business even sittingin class with any of that.

(17:21):
And that covers up a lot ofsins. And were you a good student?
Absolutely, you were one of those. Were you like a three point
eight er? Yeah? I wasgood grades everything? Yeah, yeah,
wow, that's the Padres fan inher. Yeah that is Kno. Uh

(17:41):
were you a good student until hedropped out of high school? High school?
No college, underground, no masters? Yeah, so you finally started
studying for your masters? Yeah,it's a yeah. I didn't really.
Oh sorry, mom, I didn'twhat about you build? Uh? I

(18:02):
was I was lazy, sitting inthe front student horrible. No. I
was a good student through grade school, good student through junior high. That's
because I went to a school thathad idiots in it. I mean,
you know, basically most of thestudents had IQ's of par golf. So
that wasn't hard. By college andlaw school, I didn't even show up.

(18:22):
I don't know. I didn't evenknow how he graduated law school.
I have no idea. Go poets, Uh yeah, what are your poet.
Uh no, not your poet. No, no, just Whittier Law
School. And they're not the poets. I don't think they were the that's
the nickname of the school. Ididn't know that it was whitt Your law

(18:44):
school. Different, different camps, different everything. You try to tell you
guys didn't have a mascot. Idid not. How school is that we
did not have a mascot? Wedid not. Okay, we continue on
with more handle on the news,Amy petros In today. He's got a
big day, Petro because you're on. Not only you do to the morning
show with us when Neil isn't around, but you also then broadcast your show

(19:06):
in the afternoon on five seventy am. The toy Department, the sports,
the old sports there. Yeah, yeah, really chop it up today,
Bill. There's a lot going on. Yeah, because the Dodgers played.
Yeah, well they Dodgers play everyday pretty much. So what is still
one hundred and sixty two games likethat? Yes, yeah, they're not
changing that. But today they're playingthe Giants. Yeah, the hegant.

(19:29):
Yeah, I've got a question.I've got a baseball question, Babe,
Ruth hitting sixty home runs and thenRoger Marris breaking that, and then a
few other ones breaking it. Hasanybody ever beat Ruth in the in the
number of games that he did itin because I know those it was shorter,
Yeah, during his era. No, I don't think it was.

(19:52):
That's why baseball is so weird becausethey they won't change the amount of games,
so the stats are so and they'relonger because they started playing on the
nineteenth century, so the stats arekind of like these. They're like the
Bible or the ten command. Youknow, I was supposed to to football
or something where they're constantly changing, but baseball has constantly changed. The ball

(20:14):
has changed, you know, thedemension dimensions of all these different fields have
changed. They started letting black guysplay, which was a pretty big deal
halfway through the twentieth century that BabeRuth wasn't really playing against. So but
Babe Ruth was a spectacular act.Oh, I know he was. I
know he would be drunk, notsleep and show up and still be the
best ball player in the entire inboth leagues. Yeah. But Barry Bonds

(20:38):
and all those guys beat that record. I mean, juice to the rafters,
but they beat it, and nobut I'm talking about within the same
number of games, within the samelength of season. I think it was
all the same. Unless I'm mistaken. I think I I think you're mistaken.
I think they're longer. The seasonwas longer than when Babe ruthe.

(21:00):
I have to look that up.Can you imagine I'm trying to watch me
on like one hundred year old sportsquestion? Yeah? I know, all
right. We once were talking aboutfootball players and you said, I remember
I told you my favorite were JimThorpe, Ya Tittle, Johnny Unidas.
And you said, boy, is, how long has it been since you've
watched the football game? All thoseguys had pretty sweet flat tops. I'll

(21:21):
tell you that. Okay, let'sdo it. We have to run through
this because you and I are bsinga lot. I'm more handled on the
news, Amy and Petros and me. Probably Young Baron's smartest decision. Former
President Trump's youngest son, Baron, has declined to serve as a delegate delegate
for this summer's Republican National Convention Let'sSee Millennia. Trump's office put out a

(21:45):
statement saying, while Baron is honoredto have been chosen, he regretfully declines
due to prior commitments. Wouldn't youthink they would have asked him first before
announcing that he had been chosen, because it's more of a nah, you
know, almost to screw you, don't you think? So not interested?

(22:10):
Oh, you're right. It wentfrom one fifty four to one sixty two,
damn it in nineteen sixty one.So eight more games. Wow,
have you heard a baron Trump's voice? No, he sounds like batman,
like he really they really dropped,if you know what I'm saying. He's
like, well, little cool.He sounds like that, like he's got

(22:30):
a real low voice. Now he'sa big guy. Oh. Newsom proposes
slashing ten thousand dollars or ten thousandvacant state jobs. That's more than ten
thousand dollars. It's twenty seven pointsix billion dollars in the gap in the
deficit. So Newsom says he's goingto get rid of a bunch of state

(22:51):
jobs that he's advanced in the firstplace. And programs. This state has
so many programs that you have neverheard of. And every time there is
a surplus, which we had afew years I think three years ago,
we had an insane surplus. Ofcourse, they suck it all up with
programs, and then the state hasa very volatile tax system where the income

(23:15):
from the state can go up anddown more volatively volatilely, It's more volatile
than almost any other state. Andso now you get stuck with your pants
down. A matter of fact, there are no many four pants to even
pull down world wide pants. Yes, remember, oh, are we poorly
run as a state? I mean, oh you think. I don't know.

(23:37):
I'm starting to feel that way.Did you see some of the cuts
of it. Like you said, they've got so many different programs they're going
to cut under this proposal, twohundred and sixty programs two hundred and sixty,
which is like, which is likeone percent of the programs that are
out there. I think we cando one more for taking a break,
Amy. Okay, remember how theBiden administration cut those late fees that credit

(23:59):
card company can charge. They wereaveraging like thirty two bucks and then they
were going to go down to eightdollars maximum starting next week. Not so
fast. A federal judge in Texashas temporarily halted the plan by the Biden
administration to lower the credit card fees. Yeah, just lovely. So they're
back to thirty five dollars on anyoverdraft. We have friends that I was

(24:25):
looking at and they go into negative. Okay, so I'm a few hundred
dollars negative. It's thirty five dollarsevery time you put it on your credit
card. Once you're a negative. If you're two hundred dollars down negative,
they love that. And you buysomething, there's a thirty five dollars charge.
You buy something else, there's athirty five dollars charge. You can

(24:48):
rack up hundreds and hundreds of dollarswithout even blinking. And so thirty five
bucks ago, you think that's enoughmoney. And so the Biden administration said,
let's make it a and the judgesaid nope, backing up, and
I don't even know the basis ofobviously has to do with the interpretation of
the financial the federal financial laws whichcontrols banking. Are we got gen z

(25:14):
being hit hard by inflation. Youshocked by that? Yeah, who isn't
being hit hard? But I tellyou, I was having dinner yesterday with
or lunch with a bunch of friendswho we were talking about, you know,
today a million dollar house which isnot a whole lot of money in
southern California. You need a twohundred thousand dollars down payment, check writing

(25:37):
money. Who the hell does that? As a gen z, well,
a millennial even, Yeah, well, the millennials had trouble because of the
financial crisis when they were in theirearly twenties, and now the gen zers
are getting punched in the gullet becauseof the COVID pandemic and inflation is eating
them alive apparently. Yeah. Imean, you have a house, right,
Petros, And you sure do.I'm in it right now. I

(26:00):
understand I do. And because we'reolder, I have a house because I
started buying, you know, myfirst house in my twenties when you could
actually buy a house. So,Conor, let me ask you a question.
How does it feel wake up inthe morning and knowing you will never
ever be able to buy a housein your life? What do you think

(26:22):
feels? Feels great? Bill?I'm to hear that. How does it
feel? Yeah? Okay, justtry to make people feel good. That
was me, Uh yeah, yeah, But how untrue is that? You
want to tell me? Well, maybe not in Los Angeles, but if
you know what, that's the conversationI was actually having yesterday is young people,

(26:48):
if you want to buy a house, you're moving Manhattan, Kansas.
Yeah, you're moving out of southernCalifornia. Oh no, you go to
Hinckley, California. You can gowell, I mean you can go to
you know, Appalachia a cono. What do you feel about squirrel soup?
Never had it? Bill? Wellyou will, Okay, Yes, weapons
are on the way. The USsays four hundred million dollars worth of military

(27:12):
aid is on its way to Ukraine. Ukrainian President Zelensky had warned that his
country is facing a really difficult situationin the East, but said a new
supply of US weapons was on itsway, and he said we will be
able to stop them. Uh yeah, I mean that they were on the
way to losing the war. Straightout. Ukraine was on the way to

(27:34):
losing the war. There's a greatNetflix documentary that I want finished watching yesterday.
It's about the Cold War and theatomic bomb, and it ends with
what's going on Ukraine and Putin andall that. It's fascinating, but it's
Ukraine. Though. They're motivated. They know if they lose, they're done.

(27:55):
Done, They're finished as a country. It's a lot of motivation and
the Russians don't care. And onthe other side, Putin has replaced his
defense minister and longtime close ally Sergei. Show you with a civilian guy to
reshuffle the military leadership, more thantwo years after the grinding war with Ukraine

(28:17):
has begun. This guy's name isAndre Bellusov. He's a civilian. And
defense spending is spiraling apparently in Russia. They're spending a lot of rubles.
Are they on the ruble? Ithink they are on the ruble? They're
not a euro? I don't No, No, they're not on euro.

(28:37):
Well the rubles will fly it outthe window. Yeah, because of the
war. Well, how are theygoing to stop spending if they want to
continue to fight it? Oh,they're not. They're not. The Only
thing that's saving their ass is theyhave lots of oil and lots of natural
gas. That's it. The restof it, very very little of anything.
Ukraine's got that too, though, right, They got some oil all

(29:00):
over there. They not very muchthat. Their big thing is agriculture.
They produce a tremendous amount of grainin the world, and Russia stops it
cold in many cases from going andbeing sold. I mean, it's a
mess over there. Speaking of stoppingcold, Rudy Giuliani, he's done well.

(29:21):
At least he's suspended from w ABCradio. He apparently kept talking about
the twenty twenty presidential election on hisdaily talk show and made the false claims
that it was rigged and that kindof stuff and the results weren't right.
And the owner said Giuliani was givenseveral warnings told not to do it.

(29:41):
We warned him once, we warnedhim twice, and then Giuliani said nope,
I'm talking about it. And sothe owner said, fine, you're
out. You know, he's outof his mind, Rudy Giuliani. You
know I've said many times, Petrost, you have heard this. I know
someone who's very close to someone whoknows Giuliani. I mean, he sure
really knows Giuliani. And I askedhim, I said, you know,

(30:03):
