You're listening to bill Handle on demandfrom KFI AM six forty. This is
KFI bill Handle here on Aday,Wednesday, June twenty sixth. Boy,
A lot's going on this morning.A couple of decisions from the Supreme Court
has just come down, and we'reputting it all together. One first Amendment
ruling and then social media companies aboutdisinformation. And we're just getting him now

(00:28):
because I'm just looking at the headlinesand people even haven't even had time to
read them, so we're not gettingmuch analysis at this point. We're pulling
them now. The editors and Amy, I mean, we're all going crazy
on this. So I'll be tellingyou about this now. This is the
last two weeks of June, andthis is when the Court releases the vast
majority of the important cases, theones that everybody had been waiting for.

(00:53):
You know, it's like, what'sthe analogy here. You go to a
Beyonce concert, or you go tothe iHeart Festival in Las Vegas, and
the big acts are at the end. That's what the Supreme Court are doing.
The big acts are at the end, and so we're looking at these
cases, really important cases coming down. Oh here's a headline, Supreme Court

(01:18):
allows the White House to press socialmedia companies to remove disinformation. Wow,
that is something I didn't think theCourt was going to do. First Amendment
issue. Social media companies, theysay, we have a First Amendment right.
We can publish whatever the hell wewant, even disinformation, you know,
is that our job? And theCourt just says, yeah, yeah.

(01:40):
And then they're saying you can pullstuff calling it disinformation because you have
free speech traits. Is that howit read? I'm not reading it.
That was a CNN headline. Ihave not read the decision yet. It's
just come down. And usually Idon't even know how many pages these decisions
are. Sometimes they go for fiftysixty eighty pages. You know, don't
see five page decisions on Supreme Courtissues. And then there was another one

(02:06):
again there was some no standing andwell, I'll get to you. I'll
get to it over the course ofthe morning as this is just coming in.
Also, tomorrow night is the presidentialdebate, which we're going to cover
here on KFI. You'll listen toit. And by the way, we
have an exclusive on that. Allof the other news media that normally would

(02:27):
carry it have agreed to let KFIcover it exclusively. That's so nice of
them. So this is the onlyplace you'll be able to listen to the
presidential debate. If that was onsocial media, they may have to take
it off due to dis information.Oh do they refer to it as a
CNN presidential debate. Yes, onlyon KFI. Even CNN has agreed to

(02:51):
let KFI broadcast it exclusively. Yeah, that's tracks. So anyway, listen
here and then you're going to hearour analysis and and of course we'll be
talking about that on Friday morning.Naturally we will, you know what,
Yeah, let me do this.I'm going to go ahead and do two
segments on this because we're almost outof time and been talking about that for

(03:15):
this segment. And that has todo with Governor Newsom our governor, our
favorite governor. He has released hisState of the State address. He didn't
broadcast it, although he did videoit and it went out on social media,
and it was what California is allabout. Now, what is the

(03:36):
state of the state or a stateof the Union, or a state of
the city, or a state ofthe county, although I don't know about
counties if they do issue that, but certainly Karen Bass state of the city,
and of course the governor state ofthe state, and of course the
president state of the Union, andsomewhere in there the state of the Union
is strong. And then there's thehappy horse crap that comes before all that,

(04:02):
and Governor Newsom sort of out inhimself. Now, there are a
couple of rules about these that theseare unwritten rules. Rule number one is
they have to have soaring rhetoric. They it is just it can't get better.
We are going to the future isbehind us, because we're gonna go

(04:26):
beyond the future. The best daysare in front of us. I mean,
okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah. But in the
case of Newsom, he's sort oftaking it to a new level. And
it was basically patting himself on theback with all three arms on this one
where and a couple of things hesaid about other states and the accusations that

(04:47):
are made about and two Californians whichhe said are absolutely not true. Yeah,
do this, okay before we endit, and then I'm going to
go into it the next segment, and I'm going to give you a scientific
concept. Up is really down, black is really white, round is actually

(05:15):
square, And how do I knowthat? Because I read his speech.
That's how I know that. Ijust I gotta tell you at the end
of it, I'm trying to lookat the end. Yeah, he says
it right there. By the way, I'm not talking about California. He
didn't do it in person. Yougot nails for that. I mean,

(05:35):
a couple of Republicans say, howdare you not deliver it in person?
He doesn't have to. He doesn'thave to. He just has to deliver
it. And in this case,he did it via a I think it
was a YouTube video. Sometimes it'sa letter. You can do it.
You can just say here it isand give them out lines. The Constitution
doesn't call for anything other than theUS Constitution, same thing from time to

(05:58):
time. Doesn't even say annually astate of the Union must be given.
Now I'm looking at what he said, and it has nothing to do with
what's going on in the state. It doesn't. It's soaring wow. We
talked about He opens it with nineteenthirty nine. On that day the world

(06:23):
was on edge as fascism. Fascismwas spreading, and on that day the
governor Colbert Olsen delivered an inaugural addressto warn lawmakers and the people of this
great state about the destruction of democracy. And he sent straight out effectively,
if you elect a Republican agenda,it is destruction of democracy. He's basically

(06:47):
making a presidential speech. It's allhe's doing. And this had very little
to do with California and the problemswe had. Did he talk about are
deficit? Not a word. Didhe talk about are insane taxes? He
actually did. And here's what hesaid, And this is what the social
media companies should stomp down on rightnow. You know what he said about

(07:09):
our taxes. Contrary to popular beliefamong the Red states and Republicans, California
is not a high tax state. He said that what does he actually live
in California highest income tax in thecountry by a long shot, the highest

(07:34):
gas prices in the country by along shot, among the highest property taxes
in the country by a long shot, the most expensive home insurance. And
this isn't governmental, but it's abasically it's the climate, if you will,
that we're living in. If youcan get insurance in the country.

(08:00):
The number of illegal aliens in Californiathe highest in the country, and proportionally
the highest in the country. Apublic school district that effectively went into the
toilet. And not because it's thosethat have come over the border illegally,
it's their fault, but it istheir fault in the sense of indirectly.

(08:20):
Why because the school district now Englishis a second language. Is those are
the big classes. When I wasa kid and I came over here,
didn't speak a word of English.I came to the United States as a
young kid and I only spoke Portuguese. You think I had Portuguese as a
second language. No. Yeah,it's it's a government that is deciding what's

(08:45):
more important. And he said thingslike there's only one state in America with
a dream, the California Dream, pushing boundaries and celebrating, not merely tolerating
diversity. You know, I meanthere in ways that that's true. We
are more diverse than any other state. But how just how about mentioning we
are diverse as opposed to we aremiracle workers. We are just on top

(09:13):
of not only the social heap, but also the religious the morals of this
country. That's who we are. It's that the whole thing was about that,
all of it was about how greatwe are and how the people that
our detractors are liars, and howit doesn't get better than living in California.

(09:35):
I don't think he mentions the weather, which is one of the reasons
you want to live in California.Did he mention how great the four h
five was during rush hour? Idon't know. He did say the French
laundry had impeccable service. Yeah,I mean, I'm looking at this thing
and it's insane. You know.He took on delusional California bashers. Our

(10:00):
state's economic prowess. We're sixty fivethousand dollars in a sixty five billion dollars
deficit this year. Let me giveyou an example. You are underwater fifty
thousand dollars. You have spent morefifty thousand dollars more than you make this

(10:20):
year, and you are in greatshape. You've never been better financially.
That's what he is saying. Man, I just don't understand. Well,
I do understand it. He wasn'ttalking to California because when he runs for
president, of course he has California. He was talking to the country and

(10:41):
his run for president, and hisrun for president is going to be a
straight out liberal, left wing approachto government. He's gonna be George McGovern
is what he's going to be,So that simple he's going for. He's
going for that move. And I'mnow guessing that he thinks that there is
enough anti Republican, anti Maga, anti Trump sentiment that he is the exact

(11:09):
opposite of that. I mean,at every single issue, the border,
we have more control over our borderthan any other state. We treat better
our people than any other state. And of course, the November presidential election
another extraordinary moment in history, comparingit to the start of World War Two.

(11:31):
By the way, I just wantto point this out for California,
the country for the world. He'sgoing to be there tomorrow night, incidentally
in Atlanta. Also, he's goingto be there as a surrogate for President
Biden. He's going to be theresupporting President Biden. And the top four
Republican vice presidential candidates are going tobe there and they get to find out

(11:56):
who wins. And I think Trumpis going to announce either before or just
after who's going to be his vicepresidential pick. And that's exciting, not
nearly as exciting as Kamala Harris maybebeing the vice presidential pick. Wait a
minute, Oh no, oh no, she's got it. I gotta tell

(12:18):
you politics are insane. They area sitting president. No matter how old
gets the nod. You don't goagainst the sitting president who came out against
Biden for the presidential nomination. Nobodyright, nobody and whoever controls the party
choose as the vice president. Youknow, they didn't used to happen that
way. It was the party thatchose the vice president. Quite often,

(12:39):
it was a president vice president didn'teven talk to each other. Boy,
things have changed. We know.We actually should do a topic on that
is how different politics are, theway a president has chosen, the way
it used to be, the numberof ballots that it took. They didn't
have primaries at all prior to whatteam forties maybe now the City Council,

(13:05):
La City Council has just approved themeasure to reform the LAPD discipline system.
Let me tell you how it workswith the disciplinary system. Here, the
cop is accused of wrongdoing and thecomp has two choices being disciplined. One
of them is just going in frontof a police board where the cops decide

(13:26):
as superiors, including the chief, decides whether the cop is going to be
disciplined, suspended, terminated. Theother choice that cops have is to go
in front of a civilian board consistingof usually lawyers and people on the police
Commission, etc. All of themchoose the civilian board. You know why,

(13:48):
because the civilian board is far morelenient, far more lenient. Now
the chief has the right to firesomeone a cop. That cop has the
right to go in front of thepolice commission, appeal it and actually be
reinstated, over and above the decisionof the chief of police, which I

(14:11):
gotta tell you. You know,do you think the chief has the right
to fire a cop? You workfor the com You work for the chief,
he's the division had if you will, if you're working for a company,
he's the CEO of the police department. Now, there are certain protection
when you work for the government. So what's happening. What just happened as

(14:35):
city Council approved a measure to reformthat system, saying that instead of all
civilians on this board, there willbe officers and civilians. It'll be two
too, sworn command staff members andmembers of the LPD, and one civilians,

(14:56):
so one civilian. So frankly,as far as cops are concerned,
if a cop is fired, it'sgoing to be harder for the cop to
overrule what the police chief said, and it'll be much harder to go in
front of the commission or the disciplinarycommission. And now they're saying, part

(15:18):
of this proposal is certain wrongdoings arecovered by the old rule, and certain
wrongdoings are covered by the new rule. Now the Police Protective League, which
is the police union, is saying, yeah, we like that, but
we wanted to go further. Now, the bottom line is, have there

(15:41):
been real issues with the police.Of course there have been. There are
cases of the police using excessive force. Of course there are has there been
institutional racism among police departments. Lookat Minnesota and George Floyd. It wasn't
just Derek Chauvin. He was notan outlier. Now, what he did

(16:03):
was an outlier, you know, stepping on George Floyd's neck and exphyxiating him
so he died. That's pretty unusual. That takes a real cockroach cop to
do that. But there was institutionalracism, which by the way, is
being is being attacked. You know, the police departments, the escalation diversity.

(16:26):
But that's not enough. That's notenough for a whole lot of people.
It's just anti police. That's theproblem. We've gone the other way.
The pendulum has swung. And bythe way, there's always been people
that are anti police. The problemis the pendulum has a very heavy swinging
mechanism, so when it swings theother way, it swings with a lot
of power. So you had rightafter George Floyd in the Black Lives Matter

(16:51):
movement, you had this massive movementto defund, to dismantle police departments,
to add social working elements. Youknow, when someone is out there and
is a danger, Oh no,you don't want to call the cops.
Or if you do call the cops, there's tould be a social worker with
the police officer because there's a lotof mental health issues. Well, they're
actually moving in that direction now.At least we're coming back now. At

(17:12):
least when you look at the disband, dismantle, defund the police, a
lot of us realize these are crazypeople. I'll tell you, when the
defund the police, people are goingto go the other way. When someone
puts a gun to their head andthere aren't enough cops to come out all
of a sudden, you sort ofchange your tune, don't you for sure.

(17:34):
By the way, the LAPD hashad a very long history of going
up and down. It used tobe one of the most racist police forces
in the country. There was theChristopher Commission because there was too much racism.
I think the Christopher Commission is whatforty years old, and now it's
become one of the most progressive policedepartments in the country. So it goes

(17:57):
both ways, all right. Onanother major issue in this one happens sens
to be with a gun violence. The US Surgeon General. Interesting guy.
First of all, the position ofUS Surgeon General really doesn't have much effect.
It's an advisory position, and itis a doctor in this case,

(18:21):
doctor Vivic Murphy, and he hascome out with and they're very rare when
they come out because these are youknow, you can't do this all the
time because they lose their owmph. And what he has declared gun violence is
now a public health crisis for thefirst time, the Surgeon General say that,
said that, and he called onpolicy bakers, read legislature, and

(18:42):
the government to pass stronger laws toreduce deaths straight out, not talking about
Second Amendment. He's not talking aboutthe right to bear arms. He's just
saying, you know what, toomany kids are dying. It has now
become firearms to become the leading causeof death for children and teenagers since twenty

(19:02):
twenty. Twenty twenty is when theysurpassed car crashes. And he says,
here's some recommendations, universal background checks, banning guns described as assault weapons,
banning those like we used to have, passing state laws that require guns to
be stored and locked away from children, and a lot of states have those,

(19:23):
some states gun advocates saying, eventhat is a violation of your Second
Amendment rights. Why because any restrictionany whatsoever is a violation of Second Amendment
rights because it is a sin.Are they against kids not getting access to
guns? Well, of course they'renot against that, but it's a slippery
slope. Once you start doing that, then it goes down to the government,

(19:49):
the National Guard, breaking into yourhouse, grabbing your weapons, and
if you don't give them up,you're going to be killed. That's the
slippery slope. Start there. RandyKosige, chief lobbyist of the NRA,
said that the advisory is an extensionof the Biden administration's war on law abiding

(20:11):
gun owners since twenty twenty two,or in twenty twenty two, forty eight
thousand people died that year of gunshots. Now that includes suicides, and includes
homicides, and includes accidental deaths. And by the way, those deaths in
twenty twenty two were eight thousand morethan twenty nineteen. So what Murphy has

(20:36):
done has not only made the gunissue pretty important, but children's mental health.
He called for warning labels on socialmedia platforms, which, of course
that's going to be fought too, similar to the ones on alcohol and tobacco
products. By the way, thefirst advisory that was ever issued was back
in nineteen sixty four by the SurgeonGeneral, and that had to do with
cigarettes caused lung cancer, which ofcourse the tobacco companies fought like crazy.

(21:02):
That's not true. All the scienceis flawed. The science that establishes that
those doctors are they don't know whatthey're doing. They're lying. Look at
our doctors who work for us thatsay there's nothing wrong with nicotine, it's
not addictive. That was the case. You know that the car companies fought

(21:23):
seat belts for years fought it didn'twant seat belts because they were too expensive
to put in, and said thescience that says seat belts actually help people,
that's not true. Look at howmany people burn up in cars that

(21:45):
catch on fire and they can't getout. That literally was the discussion,
and I think we're I mean, what do you do? You know,
as far as gun laws are concerned, you're always going to have Second Amendment
because any restriction universal universal background checks. I mean, how horrible is that

(22:06):
violation? Assault weapons? Oh?Can you stop those? And no chance
because they use them for sporting becausethere's nothing like taking an assault weapon and
ripping open. Uh, I willbet. And I'm just guessing now that
how many let me ask you,Sathying Neil, Uh. You know usually
you and I are on opposite sizeof this one. Uh, how many

(22:29):
people who are in favor of gunswould bring forth, if they could,
the ability for the average citizens tohave a full machine gun. I couldn't
tell you. I'm not for that, and I don't know I'm saying I'm
not on you, but I'm justsaying, how I tell you that more
people hunt with what you refer toas an assault rifle and don't. Yes,
there there are actual sporting usages forthose. I think people like to

(22:55):
make them scarier guns because they lookscary, or they refer to them as
at weapons, but there based everyweapon is an assault weapon if it's used
on somebody else. So it's kindof anyway, all right. And this
is why Neil's here. He's agood pet point counterpoint because sometimes I get

(23:15):
really, let's just say, investedin the stuff that I believe in,
Okay, but I don't have aproblem with background checks or any of those
things. I think you and Iwould be on board on those things,
all right. KFI AM six fortyLive everywhere on the iHeartRadio app. You've
