and gentlemen, here's Wayne Resnick, who works on the fourth of July fire
works. Hey, what does aghost say on the fourth of July?
(00:47):
Boom, salute the red, whiteand boom. Yes, ladies and gentlemen,
this is what you're in store fortoday on the Bill Handle Show kf
I AM six forty Live everywhere onthe iHeartRadio app. Good morning, it
is the July fourth holiday. Ahappy one to you and yours. Bill
is out, Amy is out,Neil is out. An loves you,
(01:15):
so she is here. Good morning, Wayne, Good morning. Kono also
has deep affection for you. Heis here, Good morning, Wayne,
Good morning. Heather Brooker has asecret school crush on you, so she
is here. Good morning, Goodmorning. And I'm I've put spywear on
(01:40):
your phone and I'm tracking your everymove. That's how obsessed with you I
am. I'm Wayne Resnik, anduh, let's do it Handle on the
news with Heather Brooker and me andthe lead story. Well after You're much
speculation that President Joe Biden might actuallystep aside, or at least say that
(02:06):
he was open to a discussion ofstepping aside. Heil. The conference call
was him, vice President Harris, and as many of the campaign staff as
could make this conference call where hedefinitively said that he's not going anywhere,
I will quote him. Now,let me say this as clearly as I
(02:28):
possibly can, and as simply andstraightforward as I can. I am running.
No one's pushing me out. I'mnot leaving. I'm in this race
to the end. Boy, ohboy, let me tell you something.
Now, if he doesn't stay init, we are going to have to
laugh at him. And I haven'tjumped on this, you know, Oh
(02:52):
my god, the debate and he'sgot to go and all that stuff.
I haven't jumped on that bandwagon. But if you're going to be that definitive
in a semi public forum that youknow can be reported and say it that
many different ways, that you're committedto the end, which is more embarrassing
if you decide later that you miscalculatedand you step aside, or if after
(03:19):
saying all that stuff, they doend up pushing you out. So,
Heather, what do you think.I know that you're not supposed to applying
too much. Well, I'm asa newsperson, but do you do you
feel like he wouldn't have said allthose words if there hadn't been behind the
(03:40):
scenes discussion and he was very veryvery very very confident about what he was
saying. I think that people areprobably telling him, you need to take
a strong stance to show strength andpower and show that you're capable of being
a strong leader. Still, Ithink that people are probably telling him to
make those kinds of statements so thathe appears strong and not weak. Yeah,
(04:04):
because there's already so much division, there's already an image that he has
that he is weak and feeble andunable to lead. So I think all
the statements, all the speeches we'regoing to see for the next four months
are going to be very strong, very definitive, very powerful. You know.
I understand that there's a whole gameplan now, yeah, that has
(04:24):
been put into place to make himseem strong and vigorous and all of these
things. So my understanding is thatat his next campaign appearance, he's just
gonna come out and do a CrossFitwad in front of everybody. Oh,
we can only hope. But beforethat happens, apparently he's going to be
(04:45):
on our TVs. Yes on ABC. And here's the thing. Initially,
I guess ABC was saying they weregoing to break up this interview. They've
done an interview with President Biden, and they were going to break it up
into parts and you know, tryto I guess, squeeze as much of
the viewership juice as they could outof it. And people were like,
(05:05):
what are you doing? We needto see the whole thing and see how
this man is is doing. Andnow they're saying they're going to air it
in its entirety as a primetime specialFriday night. This Friday Night, you
can watch George Stephanopolis' interview President Bidenand ask hard hitting questions like were you
(05:28):
just having a bad night? Isthere any way you could say that the
part about you can watch Joe Bidenbeing interviewed by George There any way you
could say it with more like thesame level of enthusiasm as let's say you're
going to a K pop concert.I don't know that I would be excited
(05:49):
to go to a kid's theater.Well, you know, come on,
you're not just a news person, you're an actor. Yes, that's true.
This is you have to sell itlike it's a massive opportunity. Yeah,
to do something that's like kick assfun. Hey Friday, I know
you were gonna go see Elvis Costelloand Daryl Hall in concert, but sell
(06:14):
those tickets off because and I'm notlying either. You can see Joe Biden
get interviewed by George Stephanopoulos. Popthe popcorn, Pop the popcorn. Get
your Bruce Kis. It's Biden andStepfie. So they're gonna They're still gonna
do a teaser clip on World Newstonight, and then they're gonna run the
(06:38):
interview in its entirety. And thenhere's something and I don't know if you
know any more about it than Ido, but that so they're gonna run
it, and they say in itsentirety, and they also say that an
unedited transcript will be made available.Do those two things mean we will see
(07:03):
every single moment of the interview orwill what's broadcast on TV be edited?
I mean what we're seeing on TVis definitely going to be edited. There's
no way they're gonna have an uneditedversion of the interview. I can't imagine
that they would do that. They'renot gonna do like thirty minutes straight,
(07:24):
you know. So then if ifin fact, any editing is made and
I'm not talking about any nefarious anything, even just edited for time, then
you can't really say the interview inits entirety will be aired. Yeah,
it's I think that they're trying tosort of reverse course, and like they're
(07:46):
also trying to cover up for youknow what it was obviously trying to be
a ratings grab and an advertisement grabfor ABC. I think they'll air probably
more of it than they were initiallyintending to. Ah. I think they
probably also had to work out somestuff with the president's people to make sure
that they could do that. Therewas probably a little bit of back and
(08:09):
forth on that as well. ButI think a lot of people are gonna
be tuning in to watch this andsee. But I also know, knowing
how television works, there will besome editing. There's gonna be some cuts,
there's gonna be some b roll, there's gonna be sound bites. You
know. Well, that's why they'regonna you know, the transcript will be
available, so if there's anything funkythat happens, it'll be in the transcripts.
(08:31):
Is I guess they're not gonna hideit from us. But even the
transcripts though, like you know, sometimes things can be I don't wanna say
take it out of context, butthings when you read them can sound different
and come across differently than if someoneis speaking them. So I'm not sure
what the point of releasing the transcriptis unless there's like some secret thing that
(08:52):
they're not gonna include in the youknow, interview, in the what they
air. So I'm not sure atthe point. That is an update on
Hurricane Burrow. It pummeled the holyheck out of Jamaica. That's its latest
accomplishment. Hurricane Burrow, where theyhad heavy wind gusts going on for twelve
(09:18):
hours straight. They also got fourpoint four inches of rain in the twenty
four hour period. And by wayof contrast, the typical amount of rain
in Jamaica in the whole month ofJuly is about two point two inches,
so two months worth of rain intwenty four hours. This is after this
hurricane went through. They call themthe Windward Islands, which are the islands
(09:45):
like Saint Vincent Granada. I don'tknow, Heather Brooker, are you a
big fan of these islands. Theyknow more of their names. I am
Saint Lucia, Tobago. Yeah,of course Jamaica as well. You know.
I saw a video, uh yesterdayfrom the I guess director of the
(10:07):
Sandals resort. They had gathered allof the people staying at the resort and
were making an announcement and he waslike, I am telling them, as
of like four o'clock today, nomore services will be available to you.
This is very serious. We're gonnaask you all to please stay in your
room. If you have never beenthrough a hurricane before, please take this
(10:30):
seriously. My first priority is yoursafety. The services are secondary. So
it was I mean, he waslike trying to prep on the You see
all these people with their like youknow, fruity drinks and their swim trunks,
like sitting there listening like are wegonna die? So but it seemed
like they were taking at least atthis one video I saw on this resort,
(10:50):
they were taking it very seriously andurging people visiting the islands to to
stay in their room and you know, be safe. I can't imagine like
you saved up all year for yoursummer vacation and you know, to live
through something like that. At leastyou live though, That's a good thing.
Yeah. Now closer to home,we're going to have kind of a
weather event. Yeah, so inDeath Valley, they're already going to be
(11:13):
setting another record. It looks like. So the previous record for Death Valley,
the hottest temperature and Death Valley wasone hundred and thirty degrees and that
was set in August of twenty twentyand July of twenty twenty one. Well,
now they're saying this coming Monday andTuesday, it could beat that.
It could go hit that temperature againor hotter in Death Valley. Although,
(11:39):
and this is you know, Ilove to take swipes at the news media.
This is an example of the headlineleading to disappointment. Maybe disappointment it's
not the right word, because theheadline is like, oh, I set
a world record for the hottest temperaturenext week. Then a little further down
it says the probability of this happeningis in the twenty to twenty five percent
range. Well, yes, itis true, we could set I like
(12:03):
how I'm saying, we like it'sa night Like we're a team and our
and our goal is to set thehigh temperature. We can do it everybody.
You know, they've recorded temperatures ofone thirty four and one thirty six
out there, but they're not consideredofficial because of the instruments that were used
(12:24):
to measure it. Like, forexample, taking a little kid out there
and going, hey, how hotdo you think it is? Feeling just
says as, I don't know,it's one hundred and thirty six, and
then they write it down. Yeah, but there is. I mean,
here's the bottom line, heat wavestarting lasting into next week. At seven
o'clock, we're going to talk aboutthat and what you need to know in
(12:48):
regard to the heat wave that we'regoing to have over the weekend. It's
always so funny when we do storieslike this because it's sort of like it's
gonna be hot in Death Valley.Well duh, you know, like but
it's gonna be hot. It's gonnabe hot almost everywhere, right, So
it's always just like hot in DeathValley where people could die. So it
(13:09):
wasn't named that by accident folks.Oh wow. You know. Boeing has
had a string of whistleblowers lately callingthem out on various practices, and the
latest one is a guy named MerlMyers, thirty year veteran of the company.
He's a former quality control guy,and he said in a network television
(13:31):
interview that when they would put badparts or scrap parts into the scrapyard,
that then Boeing would take those partsout of the scrapyard and put them back
on the assembly lines, even incases where because sometimes they would paint the
parts red, Hey this is crapand throw it on the scrapyard. And
(13:56):
he said sometimes they were taking redpainted scrap parts out of their putting them
on the assembly line. Meaning ifhe's right, I don't know why he
wouldn't be. They're planes flying aroundwith parts on them that are not supposed
to be in use. Fantastic.Makes me not want to fly anywhere.
(14:16):
We got a crime blodder item here, We got a what crime blotter item?
Oh with the Fashion Island story.Yes, I've never heard crime blodder
before. All right, this isa really just heartbreaking story from Newport Beach.
A woman killed at Fashion Island Mall. There very high end shopping mall.
(14:39):
She was visiting the US from NewZealand. She and her husband were
walking outside of Fashion Island apparently theyjust come out of a Barnes and Noble
there when they were approached by severalmen, three men, and robbed.
There was a tempted robbery. Somehowshe ended up getting run over in their
getaway car when they were trying toThey ran over her and killed her.
(15:01):
She was sixty nine years old andher husband wasn't hurt. But they did
catch the three suspects a short timelater. So they're looking at robbery with
a gun, probably a conspiracy. And I would assume this gets you to
a murder charge. Oh, Iwould think so, absolutely. Yeah,
(15:22):
And there was one of the menapparently had a gun and he fired shots
like in the general direction I guessof the store. But yeah, they
caught them all. All right.Well it's July fourth. Here are Independence
day for Britain and over there it'selection day, the Brits heading to the
polls to another snap election which wascalled by the Prime Minister Vershi Sunak.
(15:48):
And we'll see if the Conservative partiescontinue to rule that country or if there
is a swing. Remember their recenthistory, three prime ministers just since twenty
nineteen. Boris Johnson got elected intwenty nineteen by a landslide, everybody loved
(16:11):
him. Then not too long afterthat, nobody loved him anymore. So
they put in what was her name, Liz Truss, who was the prime
minister for about fourteen fifteen minutes, and then she was replaced with Sunak And
now he's called the snap election.Although people are like, oh, he's
called a snap election. You haveto have an election. I think it's
(16:36):
every five years. And he onlyhad a few months left anyway before he
would have to do what he's doingnow. So we will see what happens
over there. Although on July fourth, do we care? No, I
mean yes, but there are jiltedlover. We broke up with them,
we dumped we we we Taylor swiftedthem a long, long long we did
(17:00):
time ago, we did so.I mean, it's but you do sometimes
you keep up. You know, there's the people who you break up and
then you're obsessed with your ex.Yes, but then there's also the other
thing. You dump somebody and thenyou're like, I do want to check
in occasionally and see if there's stillas big a loser as I realized that
they were. I want to creepon their Instagram a little bit and see
(17:22):
what they're up to. Yeah, that's what we're doing with Britain. Now,
I see here the FDA, heather'staken bold action to protect our health
and it only took them twenty fouryears. I'm sorry, fifty four years.
Fifty four years. Yeah. Apparently, back in the nineteen seventies,
the FDA said that BVO, whichis rominated vegetable oil that's been used in
(17:44):
food, wasn't considered safe, butthey could use it in small amounts.
Well, now they're coming back andthey're saying, oh, actually, we
probably shouldn't be using it in anyamount. So they revoked its regulation for
the use of prominada vegetable oil.And it's been found in some sodas and
sports dreams over six dres not foundlike, hey, that's not supposed to
(18:07):
be there, but like put inthere on purpose, with the permission of
the government. You know what,And you know why it's so important to
take vegetable oil to which you haveadded this dangerous chemical. You know why
it's so important because if you havea citrus flavored drink and you don't put
(18:29):
the deadly brominated vegetable oil in thedrink, the citrus flavor may separate and
float to the top of your drink, which is a much worse tragedy than
getting brain cancer. So this hasbeen banned in Europe and Japan for some
time. California last year banned itas part of the Food Safety Act,
(18:52):
and now the FDA has banned itfor use in food. Just don't drink
sodas, people, that's all.I'm trying to decide whether to mention a
product or not do it. It'sthe fourth of July. Let's get all
right, Except if you want todrink Zvia, that's probably fine with z
Zvia is a a brand of sodasthat uses no coloring, no artificial flavoring,
(19:19):
so every flavor is clear, eventhe cola flavors, the cherry cola
flavors, the Doctor Pepper like knockoffthat they make. It's all clear,
and it's sweetened only with stevia ifyou want. If you want a sweet
soda like beverage, it might bethe closest thing to a healthy version of
(19:41):
that that there can be. AndI do drink those, all right,
I'll check it out and I'm positivethere's no bvo all right. There,
I've been influenced by Wayne I'm gonnago check it out. Well. A
Delta flight to Amsterdam had to makean emergency landing in New York City because
some of the in flight meals hadgone rotten, and they decided the best
(20:07):
course of action was to go aheadand land in New York because they knew
some people had eaten those meals andwere likely to get Elsico. And twelve
passengers were evaluated, but all ofthem said I don't need anything except a
bathroom. I don't need to goto the hospital. And Delta is apologizing,
(20:27):
saying this is not the service Deltais known for. Okay, we'll
tell you what you're known for.Yeah, did you see that video a
while back of somebody who just letloose, They couldn't control themselves and there
was just like diarrhea all over theplane. Did you see that? No?
(20:48):
All right, it was. ButI don't but unlike you, I
unlike you. I don't ten timesa day Google image search diarrhea. Well
you're missing out, all right. So this is this is a terrible incident
that's happened in Long Beach. Oneperson has died and ten other people were
hurt after a boat. Of course, they describe it as a pleasure craft,
(21:14):
but I looked that up and apparentlyit's just another name for a boat.
But it crashed into some rocks andthe waters off of Long Beach last
night, So very scary story there. Ten people are recovering this morning,
and they're still in the early investigationstage of figuring out what happened. Image.
Yeah, they don't know, andI guess initially what happened there.
(21:36):
There was forty to fifty year oldsis what they say were on the boat,
and they think speed might have beeneffected. Oh no, Well,
the federal government has given a littleover eight million dollars to our beloved Hollywood
Burbank Airport right up the street thereto update its terminal. It's part of
a nationwide airport infrastructure program that isgiven to two hundred and eighty nine million
(22:00):
dollars to one hundred and twenty nineairports in forty states. Because we're all
flying again. In fact, we'reflying more than we were before the pandemic.
Apparently, Hey, was it lastmonth that TSA said they broke a
record because they screened two point ninenine million passengers in a single day.
(22:21):
I belive. So yeah, okay, let me ask you this. Then
here we go again criticizing the media. In this article, they point out
this record in a single day,two point nine to nine million passengers screened
by the TSA. Then they goon to say that the TSA expects over
the fourth of July holiday weekend morethan thirty two million passengers to fly.
(22:49):
So if two point nine to ninemillion in a day is a record,
how can you get thirty two millionpeople over the course of and even being
generous here calling it a five dayweekend. Well, I did a story
earlier this week where it's said thatthey considered the holiday, the fourth of
(23:10):
July holiday to be almost a weeklike starting but it would have to be.
But if it's really more than thirtytwo million passengers, it would have
to be ten days long. Yeah, somebody, Hey, I'm just saying
that math doesn't the math doesn't addup here. The math isn't math LA
times, or maybe it's not LAtimes. They're just reporting what the TSA
said. But somebody, you know, should be protesting in front of the
(23:33):
TSA to give them calculators. Inany event, they're going to update the
terminal in that airport, which isthe greatest airport to fly out of.
It really is a dream that mightnot be true. I think Ontario is
also very good. Actually, youknow what, just just as long as
it's not lax, you're probably fine. It is a dream to fly out
of Burbank Airport, and I standby that always in forever. All right.
(23:57):
LA Unified says they are no longergoing to be using a new AI
chat bot system after I guess thecompany collapsed. Let's see, so it
says, apparently it was a customdesigned to help students thrive academically and parents
navigate They say, the complexities ofLA public schools. Well, yeah,
(24:22):
so the company that created it hasfurloughed the vast majority of its staff.
And it's called all. Here isthe name of the company, and the
chatbot is called ED. Yes,and ED was debuted less than three months
ago with much hoopla and fanfare abouthow awesome it was going to be for
everybody. They paid three million dollarsand less than three months later it's gone.
(24:48):
Because obviously, if the company's gone, you can't They turned it off.
They just turned ED off. Arethey going to get their money back?
It doesn't say that the turn ofthe contract where I mean, I
would hope. So that's a goodchunk of change for a school district that
I'm sure desperately needs that money.Yep, so that's a shame. Jeff
(25:11):
Bezos is going to sell about fivebillion with a B dollars worth of shares
in Amazon, according to a regulatoryfiling. This after the stock hit a
record high. So of course that'swhen you want to sell your stock cracked
two hundred dollars a share. It'sup thirty percent so far this year.
The Dow Jones Industrial average is upfour percent so far this year. But
(25:37):
don't be sad for Jeff Bezos, because yes, he's gonna unload twenty five
million shares of Amazon, but hewill still have about nine hundred and twelve
million shares of Amazon. So don'tyou worry. I know you're worried sitting
around the kitchen table. What isJeff He's just going to do? If
(26:00):
he has no shares of Amazon,he'll be lonely. Don't you worry about
it. He'll be fine, allright. So maybe some good news coming
out of the Israel and Hamas war. Apparently they're getting closer, just inching
closer to a possible ceasefire and hostagedeal. Apparently, Israeli negotiators that are
(26:23):
going to meet with Israel's political leadership, including net Nyahou in the coming days
to decide whether to enter this newphase of negotiations. Hamas has confirmed that
it passed on it passed a responseon an Israeli proposal to mediators in Qatar
and Egypt, repeating its demand fora complete ceasefire. This is so complicated,
(26:51):
so many layers, and I feellike every week we think we hear
something that says, oh, they'rethey're getting closer to a deal, and
then it goes way. So Idon't know whether to believe it when stories
like this come out. Well,I think we can. We can believe
that what's what's being reported here therethey're almost at an agreement. Just to
(27:12):
have ground rules and broad strokes foran agreement, they would then still have
to start negotiating an agreement. Right. This is where this is where these
kinds of international geopolitical problems, Thisis where it takes months, sometimes years
(27:34):
of negotiation just to get to thepoint where you agree to sit down with
each other and start negotiating, right, and that's kind of where they are
here, right, So it's like, you know, whenever we see headlines,
oh, they're on the Like thisheadline is where they're on the brink
of framework agreement for ceasfire. Thatmakes it seem like but they're still just
(27:55):
miles away. Definitely, this islike we're almost, Yes, we're miles
away. We're on the brink ofan agreement for us to get into our
cars and drive a quarter of amile closer to each other. Exactly.
Hey, here in La City,Councilman Hugo Soto Martinez has introduced the fast
(28:18):
food Fair Work Ordinance. Now,La already has a fair work Week Ordinance.
We've had it for a couple ofyears now, and that's the law
that says your employer has to giveyou your schedule in advance. It's mostly
for retail employees and it covers liketwenty five hundred large chain fast food restaurants
(28:41):
about fifty thousand workers. So nowHugo Soto Martinez wants to augment that with
some more requirements mandatory six hour paidtraining to educate workers on their rights.
Yes, employers are going to lovethat. You want me to pay them
(29:03):
for me to tell them how theycan stop me from doing what I want
to do. Also, fast foodworkers would get an hour of paid time
off for every thirty hours that theywork. Unsurprisingly, save local restaurants,
the coalition that includes restaurant owners andbusiness groups say you're gonna make us all
(29:26):
shut down if you do this, just like they say you're gonna make us
shut down if you do anything. And they don't shut down for the most
part, but sometimes they do layoff a lot of people. Remember when
the fast food minimum wage went intoeffect, and you know what, I
forget what chain it was. Wasit Pizza Huts? If it wasn't Pizza
(29:48):
Huts, I apologized to do Hey, I don't remember, but a big
franchiser or franchisee of Pizza Hut orwhatever was sorry restaurants, he immediately laid
off all the in house delivery staff. So there you go. And the
hit point has just been introduced asemotion. So it'll take the city council
(30:12):
some time to figure out if theywant to try to do this or not.
Oh oh, how the mighty havefallen? Oh joey joey chestnut,
which sounds like such a gangster name, doesn't it. Joey Chestnut, famous
world fast eater, fast eater guy. He has been banned from Nathan's annual
(30:33):
hot dog eating contest because apparently hesigned an endorsement deal with Impossible Foods.
Excuse me, and competitive eaters atthe Nathan's Contest cannot endorse hot dogs other
than Nathan's, which sponsors the contest. On the fourth, So what he's
gonna do is he's going down toFort Bliss's Army base in El Paso,
(30:57):
Texas, where he is going toto devour hot dogs and buns in about
five minutes. I guess. Sothe Nathan's Contest is ten minutes, this
Army contest is five minutes, andJoey Chestnut says he's gonna try to eat
more hot dogs in five minutes thanwhoever wins the Nathans contest eats in ten
(31:23):
minutes. He has a record ofseventy six hot dogs and the buns.
Well, I don't know in fiveminutes, though, I mean the seventy
six was in ten minutes. Whatever, we'll see what we'll see what There
is a live stream, apparently,I don't know. I haven't clicked on
the link because I'm not interested inwatching it. But if you want to
(31:45):
watch such a thing, there's goingto be a live stream for this fourth
Bliss Army Base hot dog eating contest. All right, good luck, Joey.
I wonder how many pirate streams they'regoing to be of this in bars
all around the country, people whodidn't pay for it. Yeah, just
no, I think it's free anyway. Yeah, all right, this is
