Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Bill handle on demand from kf I
A m six forty.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Surprise, it's only water, vapor over the water.

Speaker 3 (00:14):
From a vape. See, if vapes had existed back then,
there would be no smoke on the water.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
I mean that's not true, because that's a song about
a music venue catching on fire. But still, I feel
like we should start over. I think I already jumped
the shark way way way too quickly and inelegantly. So
fire up, fire, fire up another bump if you don't mind,
please is it a different song? Yeah, that song's tainted

(00:49):
now in terms of professionalism on the radio.

Speaker 3 (00:55):
Okay, no, good, Okay, you ready? You say so?

Speaker 1 (01:00):
Yes?

Speaker 3 (01:01):
Oh gotta stop it.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
I am six forty live everywhere on the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
It's the Bill Handles Show. He is back on Monday.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
Wayne Resnick sitting in very professionally for you here until
nine o'clock and is anybody up for a very fast quiz?

Speaker 3 (01:30):
Yes, yes, all right. Yes.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
This has to do with the topic, which is that
on Monday, the Supreme Court of the United States of
America is going to hear a case involving the regulation
of flavored vapes. We must protect the children. So I'm
going to read a short list of vape flavors and

(01:54):
you tell me which one is not real. Okay, Chewy
cloud sour grape, Killer Custard with a K, Vanilla cherry
blast off Supreme, Jimmy the Juiceman, peachey strawberry, or Suicide Bunny,

(02:17):
Mother's Milk and Cookies. One of those is not an
actual vape flavor.

Speaker 3 (02:25):
Which one I'm going with? Killer custard? Is that what
it was called? Killer cut? I'll go with killer.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
Killer Custard with a kye uh huh. Okay, cono. You
want to guess which one is not Yeah, I'm gonna
go with the Jimmies, Jimmy the Juice Man, Peach Strawberry,
Jimmy the Juice Man. No, those are both totally real.
I made up Vanilla cherry blast off Supreme. Oh, although
now some vape company is probably gonna start selling it,

(02:51):
which is fine. I hereby relinquish all rights to the
vape flavor Vanilla Cherry blast Off Supreme.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
I don't care. I don't want to make any money
from the kids vaping, thank you very much.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
So the Supreme Court's going to hear the case on Monday,
and here's what happened. Rewind to twenty nineteen. It's the
Trump administration, and the head of the FDA at that
time said that children vaping was an epidemic and bad.

(03:24):
So the FDA put into place some rules and regulations
about when you can sell flavored vapes. You can sell
all the just tobacco flavored vapes you want. If it
tastes like tobacco, sell it. And also menthol. They're pretty
good about allowing you to sell a menthol flavored vape

(03:47):
because the idea from the FDA's perspective is that the
purpose of vapes is to get people to stop smoking cigarettes,
because vapes are viewed as not necessarily the greatest thing
in the world, but less harmful to your body than cigarettes.
So now, because we don't want kids getting addicted to

(04:07):
nicotine because it tastes like vanilitary bust Off Supreme, if
you want to sell such a type of flavored vape,
you have to show research evidence that your product will
have more of the effect of moving adults from cigarettes
to vaping and less of an effect of causing children

(04:32):
to want to vape it. So some companies applied to
be able to sell such real flavors as Suicide Bunny,
Mother's Milk and Cookies or Jimmy the Juiceman Peache Strawberry,
and they were denied. The FDA said, no, thank you
very much. We don't think your product is going to

(04:52):
do more to help adults move away from cigarettes to
vaping than it is going to entice children to want
to taste it.

Speaker 3 (04:59):
So no, thank you. And the company.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
Sued, and they said that the FDA had messed up
and been arbitrary and capricious and had.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
Not been right.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
Now there were lawsuits all over this country. Seven federal
circuit courts all said the FDA is fine. But one
of them, the Fifth Circuit, the most conservative circuit in
the country, said oh yeah, they screwed up. The FDA

(05:32):
screwed up. So you have what's called a circuit split.
And when you have a circuit split, this is one
of the supreme jobs of the Terry blast Off Vanilla
Supreme Court is to resolve circuit splits, because.

Speaker 3 (05:47):
You can't federal law.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
You can't have it be one thing if you live
in Chicago and another thing if you live in Miami.
If it's federal law. So that's why they're going to
take the case, and who knows what they're gonna do.
But here's the thing, if I may just tell you,
because one of my hobbies is to point out when
federal judges are morons, I.

Speaker 3 (06:11):
Love to do it.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
So why you might ask if seven federal circuits with
three judge panels in each of them, hearing the complaints
against the FDA, said the FDA is fine.

Speaker 3 (06:27):
What they did is fine, but one said no, it's not.
Here's why, because of one judge.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
Who based his conclusion on something that isn't true. In
writing for the fifth Circuit, this judge said, the FDA
pulled a switcheroo on the vaping companies by saying, you know,
you can submit your stuff and we'll look at it.

(06:59):
But then when they denied the applications, gave a different reason,
came up with a new reason, which, by the way,
if a government agency says here are the rules, and
then you apply for something and then they say we're
denying your request because of a new rule that we

(07:21):
just made up that didn't exist when you applied, I
would agree that's a switcheroo and that's not cool.

Speaker 3 (07:27):
I would totally agree here's the problem.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
They did not They did not switch aeroo. They did
not give a new reason.

Speaker 3 (07:40):
He's wrong.

Speaker 2 (07:41):
The judge is wrong, like factually, like the judge went
outside his courthouse in let's say, uh Abilene, Texas. He
went outside his courthouse and he said, I'm currently standing
in Antarctica.

Speaker 3 (07:55):
That's how wrong he is.

Speaker 2 (07:58):
And that's why now the Supreme Court is going to
have to get involved.

Speaker 3 (08:01):
So is it unfair that.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
Fully grown adults may not be able to enjoy a suicide?
Bunny Mother's Milk and cookies, Jimmy the Juiceman, Peachy strawberry
chewy cloud sour great weekend because of the kids, because
think of the kids. I don't know, you know, nicotine
is one of the most addictive drugs on the planet.
So I do think if we're talking about being able

(08:26):
to walk into any old store and buy something that
has in it one of, if not the most addictive
drugs on the planet, and it looks like something that
a kid would love to taste, maybe that's not cool.

Speaker 3 (08:44):
Michelle, did you see what I just did? I gave
an opinion about that. I did love it.

Speaker 4 (08:48):
God, here they come, here, they come on X here
they Come on Instagram, you you dumbass. You don't think
that kids should have the most addictive drug on the planet.

Speaker 3 (09:03):
That's what you're worried about.

Speaker 5 (09:06):
Kids becoming addicted to a terrible drug. Oh you're you're
sech a bleeding art. Now I'm going to start with this.
It's a little quick thing.

Speaker 2 (09:20):
Everybody knows exercise can help you in a lot of ways,
and including your brain power, your cognitive processing power, your memory.
Doing exercise can help that. Everybody knows it. That doesn't
mean I'm going to do it by everybody knows it.

Speaker 1 (09:38):
Well.

Speaker 2 (09:38):
Now, a new research study published in the Annals of
Behavioral Medicine says it doesn't have to be exercise exercise.
It doesn't have to be jogging or weightlifting or CrossFit or.

Speaker 3 (09:55):
You know, the summer Olympics.

Speaker 2 (09:57):
Apparently, regular normal activities like walking your dog or doing
household chores improve your brain's cognitive processing speed and memory,
and that those benefits are delivered very quickly. And they

(10:21):
quantified it this way that doing some of these low level,
not scary, you don't need to buy a bunch of
gear activities can improve your cognitive functioning as if you
were four years younger than you are, which is pretty good.

Speaker 3 (10:43):
Sorry this sounded like trying to be Larry David for
a second.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
I'm not.

Speaker 2 (10:47):
So that's amazing to know that you don't have to
go crazy, you don't have to go hardcore at the
gym to get some decent benefits for your brain.

Speaker 3 (10:56):
And the way they did it was very interesting.

Speaker 2 (10:58):
They had the participant who were connected through a cell
phone app and they checked in with them six times
a day, about every three and a half hours, and
every time they would go, hey, have you been physically
active at all in the last three and a half hours,
And if they said yes, then they said, well what
did you do? So they knew if it was light moderate,

(11:20):
you know, one guy's like I ran a whole marathon.

Speaker 3 (11:24):
Get out of the study, dude. And then they had
them play two brain.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
Games to assess their cognitive processing speed and working memory,
and they found that if the person had been even
lightly active in the previous three and a half hours,
they did better on the brain games.

Speaker 3 (11:42):
So guess what.

Speaker 2 (11:43):
Who ever thought that the path to a better brain
involves just cleaning up your damn room, you slob, That's
all you need. Here's another thing, scientists at the Salk
Institute for Biological Studies that's down.

Speaker 3 (12:03):
In La Joya. Ooh. They have a new study.

Speaker 2 (12:07):
It was published in Nature Neuroscience, and they have identified
a circuit in the brain that they didn't identify before.
I should have gotten into this a little bit of
a different way. Let me try it again. You know
how if you do mindful breathing, it will calm you down.

(12:28):
Everybody knows that that's true. It can be deep breaths,
it can be box breathing where you breathe in for
four seconds, hold it for four seconds, exhale for four seconds,
hold that for four seconds. That is what Navy seals
do to keep calm, you know in stressful times. Everybody
knows that, but we didn't know exactly how. We didn't know, well,

(12:52):
where in the brain is this happening, that you're doing
this breathing and then your brain is telling you to
calm down. They've identified the exact circuit from some cells
in your cortex to a different part of the brain
right to your lungs. Literally, if you do the deep
breathing or the box breathing or any kind of relaxation breathing,

(13:17):
a part of your brain activates and tells your lungs
that you are not as anxious. Now that they know this,
guess what's coming. They think it's coming. It's a pill.

Speaker 3 (13:34):
Why breathe when you can swallow a pill.

Speaker 2 (13:38):
Why breathe for free when you can give money to
big pharma. But that is what they say. They could
develop a pill that activates this specific circuit in the
brain and will have the same calming effect as if
you were doing the breathing or the yoga, and that

(13:58):
these pills will be better than the current anti anxiety
medications like valium, because those drugs affect multiple parts of
the brain and as you know, can be very dangerous
and very addictive to people. And they say this will
only affect the one circuit that you need, and it
won't be as dangerous and it won't be as addictive.

(14:21):
Although we're gonna have to slip if if that pill
ever comes out, Michelle, we're gonna have to grind them
up and slip them into handles.

Speaker 3 (14:30):
Food Oh, we could totally do that. We're gonna have.

Speaker 2 (14:33):
To, all right, and joining us now for Foody Friday,
our own Nick Paliochini gives us the traffic every morning
here on KFI on social media at fifteen minute foody.

Speaker 1 (14:46):
Yes, sir, welcome Wayne Resnik. It has been far too long, sir.
How are you?

Speaker 2 (14:53):
I'm good? How are you now? What makes you the
fifteen minute foody so as opposed to the twenty minute
or the twelve right, no, no, no, and I respect that.

Speaker 1 (15:02):
A long time ago, when the whole social media regular
romole started, I wanted to find a way to celebrate
having a fun time with food, and so I figured
that you're never more than fifteen minutes away from a
foody adventure, and so that was my concept of fifteen
minute foody. So there was always been so many thank
you because I figured you want to have fun with food,

(15:22):
and you want to Sometimes it's all about like Jack
in the Box and like which is funny because Jack's
all I'm in San Diego right now celebrating Thanksgiving with
the family and Jack in the Box. That the San
Diego is a home of Jack in the Box. So
you know, sometimes it's about that kind of foody adventure.
Sometimes it's a little bit more gormand than you want
to have that, you know. Muchelon starred five Star Gourmet
Adventures so you know, you're never more than fifteen minutes

(15:43):
away from enjoying something that is a little bit more
fun with it coming with food. So but sometimes it's
a little bit more you know, five dollars signs and
sometimes it's just one dollar sign. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (15:54):
I don't think I can get to the French laundry
though in fifteen minutes.

Speaker 1 (15:58):
No, that's true. Getting up to Yonceville and get into
northern California, we'll try. I mean, you know, I have
a feeling if anybody can pull it off, we can
probably do a little bit of radio magic and make
that happen.

Speaker 3 (16:08):
No way, I wouldn't eat there. I wouldn't eat there
if you paid me.

Speaker 1 (16:12):
No, I understand. Well, and you know we might run
into a.

Speaker 3 (16:15):
Thing too many gross things in there.

Speaker 1 (16:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (16:17):
Anyway, all right, look enough of this.

Speaker 2 (16:19):
Let's get down to what it is on everybody's mind,
which is all these leftovers.

Speaker 3 (16:23):
Oh my god.

Speaker 2 (16:24):
And the normal thing you do with leftovers are one
is you just make another Thanksgiving plate, stick it in
the microwave, or of course the old turkey sandwich.

Speaker 1 (16:36):
But you know, some ideas, what's your go to Wayne,
what would normally be your go to for leftovers.

Speaker 3 (16:44):
I let everybody else take the leftovers.

Speaker 1 (16:47):
Oh okay, so you're Are you not a leftover person?
Is that? What's your usual? Like? Are you not a
person that usually has the leftovers in the fridge?

Speaker 3 (16:55):
Look, this is how it works, all right. I didn't
know that this was going to come up on the show,
but I mean you.

Speaker 1 (17:01):
Remember you and I go way back, and I haven't
talked to you, so I know.

Speaker 3 (17:05):
Listen, listen to me. Okay, this is what happens on Thanksgiving,
all right.

Speaker 2 (17:11):
I eat so much food, yes that if I see
any more of it the next day, I will be
filled with such shame that I won't come out of
the house for a week. So I put it all

(17:31):
inside me as much as I can fit in there,
and then anything that's left goes bye bye, so I
don't have to be reminded of my gluttony.

Speaker 1 (17:42):
Okay, Well you're.

Speaker 3 (17:44):
Very much other people.

Speaker 2 (17:48):
It means other people have been burdened with more leftovers
than they than they were counting on, so help them out.

Speaker 1 (17:57):
I got you. Okay. So if you tune into us
last year for Thanksgiving on wake Up Call with Amy King,
we made stuffing pizzas and so This is what Michelle
Cuban I have talked about in stuffing waffles is what
the most popular leftover item is this year, and what
that means to you is taking your stuffing, either stuffing
or dressing. Stuffing being in the bird and dressing being

(18:19):
something that you made alongside the bird, so it would
have been made in a casserole dish on the side.
So taking that and using that in a waffle iron
and using that to either make a pizza kind of
open face sandwich style or using it for waffles. So
if you think of having a waffle sandwich for breakfast,
is using the stuffing as your catalyst for you know,

(18:40):
the bread in place of the bread, So kind of
your carbloating idea. Now working with Amy last year and
you can check out Instagram to see what we ended
up making. But we learned two major things for doing
this with your leftovers. Number one, you want to leave
the stuffing and the dressing out for a little while
because it lets some of the moisture evaporate. Because we
learned that you get a really soggy waffle if otherwise,

(19:00):
because you got that moisture left over from that really
juicy bird that you either have the stuffing in or
a lot of times people put you know, maybe a
little bit of bourbon, which usually burns off when you
cook in the oven, but sometimes they put a little
bit of the extra drippings from the turkey into the
dressing on the side, and so that makes it extra moist,
so you want to make sure that you have a
little bit of that evaporate off. And also the secret

(19:23):
to making an extra crispy waffle and making sure that
all sticks together is add a little bit of freshly
shredded cheese, so Habardi, which is a really nice, sweet,
nutty and easily melting cheese is great. Or if you
want a little zing, add some extra sharp cheddar. And
the thing that I recommend is to shred it from
block yourself, because if you use the pre shredded stuff,
which I have in my refrigerator in a bag, you

(19:48):
can totally use it, but it's already coated in corn
starts or flour, so it doesn't melt nearly as well,
it doesn't help keep it together the way you want it.
And most of waffle irons are they have the not
stick coating on them, so it's really easy. But you
want to give it a little sprints or maybe give
a little brush of olive oil, and then I'll make
sure that everything comes off nicely. And then what you'll
do is you'll take all of your fixins that are
left over, including the mashed potatoes, and you'll smear them

(20:11):
on those waffles that you have made out of the stuffing.
You can again either open and face it like a pizza,
or you can have it with closed face and have
it more of a sandwich. So that's the easiest and
the most exciting thing that a lot of people are
looking forward to doing this year.

Speaker 2 (20:23):
As you're leftover, let's transition to this number one. There
are some Black Friday food deals.

Speaker 3 (20:31):
Do you want to mention any of them?

Speaker 1 (20:34):
Yeah, so one sort of Americans are one one hundred
and thirty one point seven million people are expected to
shop instores are online today for Black Friday, estimated by
a National Retail Federation survey. One of the major retailers
that's online is door Dash. And so this is a
lot of people, especially with the pandemic, have chosen to
maybe not venture out as much as I would really

(20:55):
encourage you, especially with a small business. Saturday Tomorrow, venturing
out and really pouring a bit of money and your time,
energy and effort back into the local economy. But DoorDash
has some incredible deals for you going on right now,
including with companies like Starbucks. And then also if you
happen to be a door Dash Dash Pass subscriber, a
lot of people still are left over from the pandemic.

(21:17):
You've got brands like Nothing, Bunt Cakes, Pizza Hunt, Red Lobster,
Taco Bell, and Wingstop, along with seven eleven, David Busters,
Firehouse Subs, Handles, ice Cream, Jack in the Box and
Magiano's all having incredible deals for you available today. So
if you want to head out and enjoy some of
foody related Black Friday deals, you can check out the

(21:38):
link in bio at fifteen minute Foody on Instagram and
get all the details there for some fun, really good
discounts for you for food relatedships.

Speaker 2 (21:48):
And we should point out Handles ice cream spelled the same.

Speaker 1 (21:52):
No relation, no, but there is one in you know
the new residents of the New City of where Handles
moving too, So if you pay attention to the Bill
Handle show here on KFI, then you'll know where he's
moving to, and then you'll know where there may be
a handles ice cream, but that's we're going to let that,
you know, that's like a wear's the ball though, Well,
that's gonna be one of those hidneys to egg.

Speaker 3 (22:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (22:11):
No, let's not be let's not get let's not get
suspended for docksing on the show.

Speaker 1 (22:15):
No, no, I understand, but you know, you know that's
one of the bonus things for anyone, and that's a
p one for us. So here.

Speaker 3 (22:22):
All right.

Speaker 2 (22:23):
So I want to go out into the world and
I want to have holiday experiences. However, I don't want
to go to Disneyland or not Mary Farm or six
Flags just because everybody goes there. I want something different
that most people might not know about. Why don't you
tell us?

Speaker 1 (22:41):
Yes? So definitely not the usual suspects, but places that
eat drink can be merry for the holiday season with
a twist. One of the biggest ones that just is
opening this weekend. In fact, today is their grand opening
Frosty's Christmas pop Up, which is a holiday bar in Hollywood.
I checked it out on Tuesday, so I got a
little bit of a preview. You can go to Nick
Polly o'channe this week. I a Nick and fifteen minute

(23:02):
footy on Instagram and get a little bit of a preview.
But it's where all the naughty and nice boys and
girls can go hang out and enjoy all the instagrammable
moments but some really fun craft cocktails and non alcoholic beverages.
So you can get both the naughty and nice drink
on in Hollywood and beat the big guy in Red
himself as well as a Frosty and some of his friends.

(23:23):
So that's a great opportunity for you if you want
to night out and just to enjoy some libations. And
they have some really incredible live music and they will
have different live local acts that be performing throughout the
run of that. Also, down in Long Beach, you've got
Miracle at the Ordinary. The Ordinary is a great restaurant
and bar in downtown Long Beach that is available year round.
But Miracle is a holiday overlay from New York that

(23:47):
actually goes around the country and they sprinkled their holiday
magic if you will, and this is the sixth anniversary
of them coming to a Long Beach. There's also two
other locations in LA that you can visit, but I
live in Long Beach, so that's my personal favorite. And
I Love the Ordinary as a partner in downtown Long Beach,
so that is an opportunity for you to get some
delicious holiday food and some libations. Also in Long Beach,

(24:09):
the Bamboo Club, which is a really cool tiki bar,
gets a tinsil overlay, so it becomes a tinsil club
all the way heading into the first of January. So
that has some really fun, teaky twists on the holiday experience.
A really cool speakeasy that you can check out at
the Beverly Center in La Is called Santa's Secret. They're

(24:30):
back for their second year. They have some really fun,
kind of sexy twists on some holiday classics. Then you
get to meet Santa's Secretary and get the scoop on
what happens at the North Pole when they're not building toys.
And then one of my favorite places that is really
worth your time is to head out to Santa's Village.
If you were born and raised in southern California like myself,

(24:52):
it's a destination that has been around. It closed for
a good number of years. It reopened in the recent
past at SkyPark at Santa's Village that's up in the
the Skycrest area. Up near Arrowhead, so if you're going
to be heading to the mountain, they have an incredible
bakery there, an amazing baker on site. Also, Saint Nick
and his brother are on site there when they're not

(25:13):
building toys up in the North Pole. So there's a
lot of places for you to enjoy all around southern California.

Speaker 3 (25:19):
All right, that is awesome.

Speaker 2 (25:20):
It's always good to talk with you, and we will
keep hearing from you, especially on wake up Call with
Amy King Nick Paliochini on social media at fifteen minute foody.

Speaker 3 (25:33):
Thank you very much, sir, you got it, Wayne.

Speaker 1 (25:35):
All was a pleasure. Thank you and hoping that you
enjoy the rest of the holiday weekend.

Speaker 3 (25:40):
All right, thanks buddy.

Speaker 2 (25:42):
Before I go, I want to tell you know Postathon
is here, and I told you how you can donate,
and I mentioned some auction items and I did want
to mention a couple of these KFI exclusive auction items
that you can bid on right now at kfiam six
forty dot com slash Postathon. One of them is to
go to a Dodgers game with Gary and Shannon. You

(26:02):
don't have to pick your favorite, they will both be there.
You'll be in a luxury suite with unlimited Dodger dogs
and other snacks and drinks, including beer if you want
to have some, and parking included, which is almost a
requirement around this part of the world. Or if you
prefer a King's game with Tim Conway Junior, two tickets

(26:26):
to an LA King's game against the Bruins on March
twenty third. We already know which game it is and
that will be very, very cool. You also can get
on the air here at KFI. You could co host
an hour with John Cobel or co host later with
Mo Kelly. With Moe Kelly, I'm going to tell you something.

(26:48):
One of those guys will be happier about what's going
on than the other. And if you would like someone
to come in your house and tell you how to
make it better, you can have your home whispered by
the house Whisperer Dean Sharp, a three hour exclusive in
home design consultation with Dina's lovely wife Tina. For this,

(27:10):
you must be because they're coming to you. You gotta be
in La or Orange County. In any event, All the
all the stuff is there at KFI AM six forty
dot com. Slash Pastathon and my favorite item, quite honestly,
