Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're listening to KFI Am six forty the Bill Handles
show on demand on the iHeartRadio.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
App Kfi handle here.
Speaker 1 (00:08):
It is a Tuesday Morning Taco Tuesday, January twenty one.
And before I get into key moments from the inaugural
dress yesterday, a couple of things. First of all, ask
Handle anything. We need you to help us out on
that your chance to ask me anything and everything.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
And I answered the question spontaneously. It's just great fun
for both of us.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
So during the show, go to the iHeartRadio app or
the iHeart app free go to the KFI page microphone
the upper hand corner, click onto it, and you got
fifteen seconds to ask a question. And I've been humiliated.
And we do that on Friday morning.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (00:46):
Now, the inaugural dress address yesterday, now it wasn't just
the inaugural address. It was followed by comments he made
at I think it was the what arena?
Speaker 2 (00:59):
Was it?
Speaker 3 (01:00):
Capital one?
Speaker 2 (01:01):
Capital one arena?
Speaker 1 (01:02):
And because a lot of people showed up who had
tickets couldn't make it. Of course, couldn't get in because
there was such a limited number of seats in the rotunda.
And so he gave another effectively inaugural address a little
more free wheeling. And then he went into the White
House and at the resolute desk was signing executive action
(01:23):
after executive action while talking to reporters. I loved it.
So a couple of key moments in the inaugural A
little unusual because what he did is do what a
lot of presidents do, a lot of rhetoric. What I
want for America leadership. We're onto a brand new version
(01:43):
of America. JFK said that it is time for new leadership,
the passing of the torch a president born in this century,
because he took it from Dwight Eisenhower, who was no youngster,
and compared to what's happening today, he was a youngster.
So a couple of key moments, the promise of an
American Golden age, typical stuff. Our sovereignty will be reclaimed,
(02:06):
our safety will be restored, the scales of justice will
be rebalanced.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
Political statement on the st scales of justice.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
Why how Because under the Biden administration there was no justice.
It was weaponized and he was the target of the weaponization.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
And so, okay, well let's talk about that in a moment.
Speaker 1 (02:31):
But he said Our top priority will be to create
a nation that is proud, prosperous, and free. Okay, absolutely appropriate,
that's what a president should and he did say, and
then a few things. Promises said to send troops to
the US Mexican border. I no, No, boost domestic oil production.
He certainly can do that with fracking, and he said, drill, baby, drill.
(02:57):
Removing virtually all environmental controls done. And you will see
this is the fossil fuel industry that went yay, because
this president does not believe in climate change, just doesn't
believe it.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
He says it's a hoax.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
He's never gone back from that, and his policies are
going to go in that direction. So he's going to
boost domestic oil production. He will impose tariffs to enrich
our citizens.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
That one is a tough one. And why is that?
Speaker 1 (03:29):
Because tariffs make things more expensive. He said prices are
going to go down because of terrorifts, they don't go down.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
He said that it will help American workers. That is
a fact.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
If imports are so expensive that it is cheaper or
more convenient to build in America, more workers actually do
work in America. High wages, good job. But if China
is producing products at low wages and it.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
Costs them less, and the government is subsidizy those products.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
So therefore we're we're paying for those with less money
and it's just better for us, but it costs us jobs.
So one of the issues that is not being talked
about is part of what he says.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
Is absolutely true.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
American workers will in fact, there will be an advantage
for them. But here is the problem that no one
is talking about. Tariffs can be raised today. Building a
factory for American workers is two years down the pike.
What happens in the meantime. By the way, it's not
(04:49):
the American consumer that pays the tariff, it's the American
importer of products. Now, in the end, the American worker
and all of us end up paying higher prices. That
I just say, higher prices instead of lower prices.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
Yes I did. It is going to cost this now
long term.
Speaker 1 (05:11):
You can agree or disagree with the President, and in
many cases I agree, especially on the tariff issue.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
Not crazy tariffs.
Speaker 1 (05:18):
You know, we already impose one hundred percent tariff on
Chinese evs coming into the country, which is why the
Chinese market doesn't exist. We don't buy Chinese EV's here,
even though they are far less expensive and they're just
as good.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
We just don't do it.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
So you'll see tariffs going up, and you'll see prices
going up as a results. Impossible not to happen. Also,
and I love this one. He is going to make
things cheaper. He will drop prices. I want you to
go to McDonald's and you've got to happy meal for
(06:00):
fifteen bucks. I don't even know, because I haven't eaten
McDonald's anytime recently. So let's say your happy meal conor
what's a happy meal there? I know you eat McDonald's
all the time.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
Clue, I think it's around like seven eight bucks. Really
is that cheap? That's not cheap for a kid meal?
Speaker 1 (06:17):
Okay, so you got a happy meal for eight bucks
that used to be four dollars.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
Yeah, yeah, just a few years ago.
Speaker 1 (06:23):
So he is going to bring down the prices from
eight dollars down to what I don't know. I wonder
if McDonald's going to jump into that and say, oh,
we're fine with bringing down our prices three bucks thirty.
That's not very realistic. That is rhetoric. Some stuff is rhetoric.
Some stuff is not I want to continue on with
(06:45):
this because my favorite part of the speech, and then
there's plenty more fact checking that we're not going to
be able to really get into a couple of quick ones. Greenland,
You're not going to buy Greenland, it's not going to happen.
Panama is not going to come back to us. That's
not going to happen unless we invade. And I don't
(07:06):
think we're going to do that. The Golf of America, Okay,
that's only been the Gulf of Mexico has only been
called the Gulf of Mexico for four hundred years. But
so what, And it's just that stuff is all great fun,
but the rest of us is a little bit more
serious now. One day after the inauguration, and as we
(07:28):
were getting off the air, we were just hearing part
of the inauguration speech, and I absolutely loved it because
it went from what most presidents will say and one
expected that to a straight out political campaign stop and
on the way he was inaugurated president to statements that
(07:49):
were completely insane.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
Bringing back Panama.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
And one of the things that I noticed, well all
of us noticed, is it got very, very very personal.
He ripped into Joe Biden. There was not one iota
of graciousness about Joe Biden. It was he didn't even
mention him by name. But he talked about the worst
(08:16):
presidency in the history of the United States, Biden having
destroyed America, him inheriting literally the most dangerous part of
our history of the US.
Speaker 2 (08:32):
And he is there to.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
Save us now, and he is going to he is
going to solve the worst problems of America, and he
is the president that will do that, because well, it
couldn't be worse. Abraham Lincoln had it a little worse.
But that's besides the point. And two things I want
to point out is the only thing that he didn't
(08:57):
say when he talking about the horrors of the previous
administration is.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
Turnaround, pointed Biden, who is feet away.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
And go that doddering old man over there, he's the
one that did this.
Speaker 2 (09:11):
And by the way, he.
Speaker 1 (09:13):
Doesn't even understand what I'm saying. Hey, did you notice
spill Clinton too with his open mouth. Oh man, it's
like he was just this old guy that couldn't control him.
You know, that was terrible that that was kind of heartbreaking.
I didn't like that at all. And then the benedictions.
Oh my God, come on, how many benedictions can you have?
(09:36):
From virtually every part of the American religious landscape. You
had pastors, you had clergymen of all kinds. You had Protestants,
you had Catholics.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
There was a lot of.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
Jesus is part of us, and Jesus yeah, put and
God and Jesus a Donald Trump there.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
And then you hear the rabbi.
Speaker 1 (10:04):
Speak because he was invited to speak, and he started
with ignore all the Jesus stuff right now, Jesus, no, no,
there is no Jesus. I really enjoy when rabbis speak
and they talk their talk. The other thing is and
I thought this was a little bit rough where I
think it's okay for fundamentalists to argue that God saved
(10:29):
Donald Trump when the assassination happened, literally saved by millimeters.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
I understand that.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
Super religious folks believe that, and that's clearly understandable for me.
But for Donald Trump to say God, God made sure
that he I'm paraphrasing, now, God saved him to save America.
I had a tough time with that. God didn't really
(10:57):
save him to save America. God did is he was
too busy with the Ohio State Notre Dame game, making
sure Ohio one.
Speaker 2 (11:08):
That's where God was.
Speaker 1 (11:11):
Both teams prayed to God, Hey who wins that one?
All Right, we're done with that. I could keep on
going forever with this. Also in a positive note, not
that there weren't positive notes there.
Speaker 2 (11:28):
I see what happened.
Speaker 1 (11:30):
I love the ceremony happening in the rot rotunda with
only six hundred people. There was a sense of intimacy
that you would never get at a normal inauguration in
front of the Capitol. The marine choir, they were magnificent.
I mean, I saw what America is. Not so much Trump,
because you know, I'm not a big fan, but the
(11:52):
transition of power and the ceremony around it.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
I love that. And it sounded great. I mean it was.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
I mean that's acoustics and the marine they sounded wonderful, singing.
Speaker 2 (12:05):
Oh, all of it.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
I actually had chills when I was watching this, that
part of the ceremony.
Speaker 2 (12:11):
Okay, we're done with that. What do we want to do? Oh,
let's talk about polls, all right.
Speaker 1 (12:18):
The polls that were taken of what Trump is done
and hasn't done. One of the big ones by the way,
that I want to mention. And here's what the polls
show is many Americans are not particularly thrilled about what
he is doing. He calls it a mandate his win.
Look up the word mandate. It's overwhelming support. He did
(12:42):
not get overwhelming support. There hasn't been overwhelming support of
a presidential when last time was Richard Nixon overwhelming support
where he got every state, every electoral vote except Massachusetts.
So a mandate is overwhelming support for what you are,
what you're going to do, what you're bringing to the table.
Speaker 2 (13:04):
This was not now. Was there support? Yes?
Speaker 1 (13:07):
Was It was enough support that he won the presidency.
He didn't even get fifty percent. He won a plurality,
but he wanted enough to say there is no issue
that he was elected. It was not particularly close, but
it was far from a mandate for sure, And so
Americans are, well, you know, what does he do?
Speaker 2 (13:31):
The immigration one? I love it.
Speaker 1 (13:33):
One of my favorite ones is the birthrate. And it's
in the Constitution right there. If you're born in the
United States, you are a citizen of the United States.
And he said the only country in the world this exists.
That's not true. They're over thirty that do that if
you're born in that country or an automatic citizen. So
how does the undo the constitution. It's a very interesting stretch.
(13:59):
Inteen ninety eight we pass the Alien Invasion Act, which
he's declaring an emergency on the border and arguing that
those coming over the border illegal, it's a military invasion
of the United States. Therefore stretching that and says these
(14:26):
are not illegal aliens, these are invaders. Based on these
are invaders. They really are not subject to and cannot
take advantage of what the constitution says.
Speaker 2 (14:43):
It's like elections.
Speaker 1 (14:44):
Can a president undo an election even though that's constitutional?
Speaker 2 (14:48):
You bet.
Speaker 1 (14:48):
He can declare martial law. He can declare and hold
it off. Has it ever happened? It has not. But
declaring an emergency Abraham Lincoln. I keep going to Abraham
Lincoln because he was the president. They had the roughest
time in the history of this country. And there was
a lot to what he did because you had Saints
that seceded from the United States and created the Confederate
(15:13):
States of America. He never recognized that. He always said,
this is a unified country. That's where we go. All
the presidents talk about unification compared to what Lincoln did,
that's crapola. That was truly the most difficult presidency in.
Speaker 2 (15:31):
The history of this country.
Speaker 1 (15:32):
And this is why the Lincoln is considered the greatest
president we ever had, because he was able to see
through that and understand that this country is one, even
in the midst of splitting up.
Speaker 2 (15:45):
The country, which we're not going to see.
Speaker 1 (15:49):
So the alien invasion law, I think that's what they
call it, and I may be wrong on that, but
the law does say that if you are in vain
by a foreign power, then.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
People born of those quote.
Speaker 1 (16:06):
Soldiers are not American citizens, even if they're born in
the United States.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
It is a very interesting stretch. Is there a reality
to that?
Speaker 1 (16:15):
Yeah, it's a very tiny little nail you can hang
your hat on, and probably the hat is going to
find is going to is going to fall off. Now
I find this terrific legally because if he pulls that off,
of course, it's going to go to the Supreme Court.
And will the court declare or agree that illegal aliens
(16:39):
coming over the United States are an invading army. Who's
the leader of it? Who arms them?
Speaker 2 (16:50):
Is there any kind of.
Speaker 1 (16:55):
Them coming together as an army or is it just
a group of people by the millions that individually come
over and that they're not invading, they're not attacking, they
just want to be here.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
I don't know which way the court would go.
Speaker 1 (17:07):
I am guessing that the court would say, ah, nah, nah,
this is.
Speaker 2 (17:12):
An invading army. Nah. You're born in the United States,
you're a citizen. Eh now.
Speaker 1 (17:18):
But we'll see, we'll see that part of that part
of the Trump presidency. I'm going to love as to
what the attempts are. The Gulf of America four hundred
years it was a golf of Mexico, Mount McKinley, which
used to be donally and it changed to Mount McKinley
in honor of McKinley, the president, who he said was
(17:41):
the greatest, one of the greatest presidents. Absolutely not true.
I mean I love that stuff. Buying greenland, I love that.
How by the way, how much money do you pay
for greenland? I mean, it's a legitimate to say we
want greenland because of the natural resources, and it'd be
nice for us to have it. But buying it, do
(18:04):
you get a discount? Do you wait for prime days
to buy greenland? I don't know, all right, I'm doing
a lot on what was said, what wasn't said, Promises
that were made, promises that are probably going to be
kept already, promises that are ludicrous on their face, personal attacks,
(18:27):
and what was said.
Speaker 2 (18:31):
And it's one of those. Okay, I'm gonna help you.
Speaker 1 (18:34):
But and this has to do with our fires, and
our fires for the most part are out. We have
not had any amy. There's no reports because you're keeping
track of it. We don't have even in light of
the winds going crazy, we don't have any big fires
going am I right?
Speaker 3 (18:54):
Yes, there's a couple that are that are burning in
San Diego County, the Lilac Fire about eighty acres and
another one seventeen seventeen acres, but they it looks like
they're getting lines around them pretty quickly.
Speaker 1 (19:08):
All right, So we're in pretty good shape relatives of course,
what happened at Palisades in Altadena, and so we are
now going back to a recovery mode and replacing and
building back Altadena strong, the Palisades strong, where you're gonna
hear a lot of that. We asked for federal help,
(19:30):
the federal government when there's a.
Speaker 2 (19:31):
Disaster just throws.
Speaker 1 (19:33):
Assets in states of emergency are declared by the President,
FEMA gets involved.
Speaker 2 (19:39):
That's what's happened here.
Speaker 1 (19:40):
And now we Los Angeles, state of California County are
asking for federal help.
Speaker 2 (19:47):
And the FEDS are saying yes.
Speaker 1 (19:50):
Mike Johnson said, who is speaker, and the President said,
of course, we're going to help. If that's never happened before,
We've never had if.
Speaker 2 (20:01):
Conditions are met.
Speaker 1 (20:03):
And what the President believes is the wildfires were really
not wild They were caused by the inadequacy and the
incompetence of local authorities. For example, he said that when
the fires came out, fires quote are still burning and
Los Angeles has done nothing to stop it. Wait a minute,
(20:28):
how many thousands of firefighters are out there nothing There's
been no stopping because of the policy of La County,
LA City. And then the mayor cutting seventeen million dollars
from the from the fire department budget. You bet that's
going to be investigated. And then that one reservoir that
(20:49):
was empty, you bet that was going to be investigated.
The lack quote of preparedness. Okay, we're going to hear that.
I don't know how much the lack of preparedness is
because that assumes that they knew where the fire was going. Now,
they knew which way the wins were going, did they
have enough firefighters? Did they anticipate this was one in
(21:11):
a thousand year event? As a matter of fact, this
has never happened before in LA history. But we should
have known, and we're hearing this from a lot of people,
not just the federal government. We could have should have. Well,
that's easy to say. Monday working Monday morning quarterback is
(21:31):
really easy. Will there be an investigation, absolutely part of it.
But the problem I have is the federal government coming
in and as opposed to helping part of the local investigation.
Speaker 2 (21:44):
And whether that's good or bad.
Speaker 1 (21:46):
It's never happened before. It's only La and only La.
Well you think that's political. Now the President has said
that he is coming out and visiting the burn areas,
which number one, I think is appropriate. He should and
he is doing. I just like to see if he's
going to come up with you blew it. It's your fault.
(22:08):
Gavin Newsom screwed this up. Karen Bass screwed this up,
And if it hadn't been for that, this fire wouldn't
have done what it did.
Speaker 2 (22:16):
Hey, don't know what's going to happen. I'm just guessing.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
But I'm having my diatribes this morning, both pro and
con with the President and his inauguration and what he.
Speaker 2 (22:28):
Intends on doing. My favorite Greenland.
Speaker 1 (22:32):
I just love the idea of buying Greenland, and if
they were selling it at Costco, it would be much
cheaper than selling it at retail. KFI AM six forty
