Gavin Grey: UK correspondent on the Princess of Wales making her first public appearance following cancer diagnosis

The Princess of Wales has returned to the public eye for King's Birthday celebrations, making her first public appearance this year.

Kate faced wild internet speculation on her whereabouts earlier this year before revealing she's undergoing chemotherapy treatment for cancer.

She was pictured smiling, sitting alongside her three children in a carriage for the Trooping the Colour parade.

UK correspondent Gavin Grey says the public were thrilled to see her back.

"She looked a little thin, a little drawn, but she did look, still, pretty amazing. And after all the chemo she's been in - perhaps that's no surprise at all."

This peace summit in Switzerland, so a lot of people
gather around a table and they all decide that Russia
shouldn't have done what Russia did. Is that about it?
I mean, is anything going to come out of it?

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Apart from that, Well, it's going to be very tough,
isn't it. Our main Russia wasn't invited, China didn't turn up,
and America didn't send Joe Biden instead of the President
Deputy Kamala Harris. So although more than ninety countries and
international organizations attended summit, in the end, the communicate that
was the result of this two day hearing in Switzerland

didn't really say much more other than effectively, the Ukraine
is entitled to its territory and there is right to
affirm that it has a right to committing to its
territorial integrity. So basically giving a Russia a slap on
the hand, I can't see it's going to make very
much difference. But what did come out of this, I

think was a show of strength for the Ukrainian efforts,
and also a plea from Zelenski for yet more arms
and yet more longer range missile.

Yeah wasn't I mean, you know, I'm a royalist, Kevin,
but that those shots of the Princess of Wales, I mean,
how fantastically uplifting.

Yeah. So, she hadn't been seen in public since January.
Then we got to after a while speculation on social
media about the cause. Then we heard, of course she'd
got treatment for cancer. She was due to be back
at East but that seems a long time ago. So
for the first time we saw her the Trooping of
the Color. That's the King's official birthday celebration. It has
been held for two hundred and sixty years and all

the senior royals are normally there. So it was absolutely
great to see her there. I have to say she
looked a little thin, a little drawn, but she did
look still pretty amazing, and after all the chemo that
she's been enduring, perhaps that is no surprise at all.

Louis we sent a message. Their first there were social
media posting to their father, Prince William, and Prince William
has sent one to the King, Prince Charles, who of
course also was at the trooping of the Color and
traveled in a carriage there, said to avoid any bugs
that might be going around, as he's got that chemotherapy.

Ukrainians leaving Ukraine. If they did that, Russia would be
happy to sit down and talk, so they didn't really
