Speaker 1 (00:00):
Get glades in the UK morning, mate, hil where are
we at with these ide workers? And the risk you
is how many we got?
Speaker 2 (00:07):
Yeah, well, it has been a couple of boats on
the Mediterranean Sea that have gone down, we believe. It
is said that dozens of migrants were rescued, but at
least ten were found dead below deck on one of
the ships that were locked into a sort of cargo
holders of course, just couldn't get out. And there is
a heat wave around the Mediterranean as well, so it
must have been very very hot. A second ship as well,
(00:30):
not far away, also went down below Both believes that
will come from either the coast of Libya or Turkey.
And I'm afraid sixty four people still missing at sea
from both those vessels. And I'm afraid you know, this
just goes on and on the Mediterranean. It's the deadliest
known migration route in the world and since twenty fourteen,
(00:51):
like twenty three and a half thousand migrants have died
or gone missing in its waters.
Speaker 1 (00:55):
Yeah, exactly. And it is very much part of the
current election campaign.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Yeah, very much so, so both sides saying they are
the party that will at least sort this out. But
I think in reality, nobody can really sort it out
unless most of the EU go with it, and that
is something the EU has so far suggested that they
are not going to join any particular plan here that
the UK have and.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
The London Stock Exchange London.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Is back, Yes, London is back, but for how long
We're not quite sure. So what that means. The UK's
main stock market, the foot Sea, retook its crown as
Europe's most valuable for the first time in nearly two years.
The total value of companies listed on the London Stock Exchange,
so that's for the foot Sea am beyond hit five
trillion New Zealand dollars yesterday. That just overtook the value
(01:44):
of companies listed in Paris now. Both valuations, of course
shift on a daily basis, but the French market are
slump because of uncertainty around the election that was called
and the distinct possibility that the National Rous, the right
wing party, will win a major and it is looking
to spend money and it hasn't said where that money
is coming from.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
How much interest, Kevin, while I got you, has there
been in the EU vote, the EU vote to the right,
the young people voting, the right, not so much the
Greens and the French situation that sees potentially some twenty
eight year old turning out to be the prime minister.
Or here's the bricks that mean that you're a separate
country now, No one cares, no, No.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
A lot of coverage here in the media and lots
of interest because of course it will matter to us
whatever happens. It may well be that the National Rally
may actually sort of suggest that they are not happy
with the EU and try and change things from within.
At one time, the National Rally Party said it wanted
a for exit, a French exit out of the EU.
(02:43):
They're not saying that now, but that doesn't mean to
say they've tempered their opinion about what goes on in
the EU.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
Always a pleasure might catch up, so I appreciate it.
