Gavin Grey: UK Correspondent on the King reportedly not going to visit New Zealand

King Charles will likely skip New Zealand during his upcoming tour to the South Pacific. 

According to The Mirror, he and Queen Camilla are set to visit Australia and Samoa - but have dropped New Zealand. 

The visit was never officially announced - just rumoured to be on the agenda. 

UK Correspondent Gavin Grey told Mike Hosking “His Majesty is said to be like a caged tiger - desperate to do more, while undergoing chemotherapy and having the cancer diagnosis.” 

Grey said “It’s been decided he’d be better off doing a ten-day trip.”

Now we've got to confirmed it. It was sort of
reported here yesterday that the King isn't coming. Is that
for sure?

Speaker 2 (00:11):
It's not for sure, but it's looking more and more
likely now. I think the sources are basically suggesting that
the King's tour will include Australia and Samoa, but not
New Zealand and Fiji. His Majesty is said to be
like a cage tiger, frankly desperate to do more, whiles
ondergoing chemotherapy and having accounts of diagnosis. He's recently actually

done a succession of public engagements in the last few days,
including appearing quite regularly at Royal ask at the racehorse
meeting beloved by his mother. But it does look like
they've decided he would be better off perhaps doing a
ten day trip to Australia and Samoa rather than go
for the two three weeks away which was the original intention.

yet confirmation of that.

Okay, and then we've got the business of Manchester. They
got the power back on on the plane's flying.

Oh Mike, what an absolute mess. So Manchester Airport is
the biggest airport in the UK outside of London. Big
airlines like Virgin Atlantic Jet, Too Easy Jet there and
terminals one and two have been out of bounds most
of the day because of a power cut. Passengers reported
entering the terminal and basically things being completely dark. Computers

weren't working, the lights weren't working, the air conditioning not working,
and flights inbound had to be diverted. Flights outbound were canceled.
Then passengers were told yep, okay, some of those earlier
flights now we're going, but they possibly wouldn't have their
luggage with them, so I'm afraid it has been a
chaotic day. They are beginning to get back to scratch
with it now, but obviously lengthy cues and very very

frustrated people at the start of some of our holidays
taking place in that sort of after the school exam
