Gavin Grey: UK correspondent on an Islamic preacher found guilty of directing and supporting terror group

An Islamic preacher in the UK has been found guilty of directing and supporting terror group al-Muhajiroun.

The group has been linked to different acts of terror in the UK, including attacks on Westminster and London Bridges in 2017, which killed five and eight people respectively, and an attack at London's Fishmongers' Hall in 2019.

UK correspondent Gavin Grey says preacher Anjem Choudary now faces life in prison for his support of the group.

preacher has been found guilty under UK Tyrrah laws. Given.

Yeah, that's right, Ryan. Now, the name and jam Chowdhry
might not be well known to many people, but it
is well known in the UK, and that is because
he is a man who's continually gone very close, sailing
to the wind, very close when it comes to supporting
Islamic state and supporting Islamic terrorism. At least that's what

his opponents say. Today, he's been found guilty of directing
a group banned under UK terror laws and also encouraging
support for it online. The group is called al Mahahadji
Ruhn and it's said to be something that he'd founded
and now he faces life in prison for that. The
group is effectively someone that has been linked to all

sorts of different action here in the UK. Three attackers
that kured eight people at London Bridge in twenty seventeen
were led by a former member of the group. The
murder of five people at Westminster Bridge earlier that year
was by a man who'd spent years associating with the group,
and another member killed two people at London's Fishmongers Hall
back in twenty nineteen. So the police say this group

has a clear linked terrorist attacks, and they believe as
well and have now proven it in a court of law.
And Jem Chowdry has a clear link and is a member.

Of it, all right, Kevin the very quickly. The Hungary
has kind of got itself on a spot of bother
with the European Union.

Yes, shrugging it off though so of course, the European
Union presidency is on a rotation among the members of
the EU. It's Hungary's turn, and Hungary has really led
the way in completely disagreeing with EU policy when it
comes to Ukraine and Russia. The Prime Minister Victor Auban
is currently holding that EU presidency and yet on an

unofficial meeting went to meet President Putin and also has
in the past said that the EU kind of provoked
the war in Ukraine. Anyway, he's now been wrapped on
the knuckles, but it's a very small rap. He was
due to host the EU Foreign and Defense ministers in
formal meetings which take place every six month. It was
going to take place in Hungry. It's now not and

Hungry won't be holding the chair post either that's going
to be given to another country. It all sounds very
small beer and indeed Hungry's described the move as completely childish,
but it certainly shows just how fed up the EU
is with the Hungarian presidency so far.
