A tiger handler remains in hospital after being attacked by a tiger at Dreamworld on Australia's Gold Coast.

Investigations are underway after the trained handler was set upon by one of the theme park's nine Sumatran and Bengal tigers yesterday morning.

It follows a fatal tiger attack on a keeper at Hamilton Zoo in 2015.

Correspondent Lesley Yeomans told Ryan Bridge the attack seemed to come out of nowhere.

She said the incident is now being thoroughly reviewed.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Right, We're going straight to Lizzie Yeomans, who's our Australia
correspondent this morning. Wild weather stretching from Hobart to Sydney
causing havoc there. Leslie, Good morning morning Ryan.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Yes, it has been a challenge the last few days,
to say the least Hobart and north of Hobart right
up to Devenport and it's just been horrific the rain
and the strong winds. They've brought down, brought down buildings,
They've brought down trees and power lines, and the heavy

(00:31):
rain has actually caused us some major flooding. The Duin
and Sticks River have overflowed in some spots down and
farmers have had to move their livestock to higher ground.
Some farms have been cut off altogether. Some properties have
been severely damaged. Even into King Island between Victoria and Tasmania.

(00:57):
There were windows there of over one hundred and fifty
k's an hour and that was just a horrific on
King Island as well in Victoria, around Melbourne and Gippsland,
horrific winds. Power still out for a lot of people.
I mean I lost power for nearly twenty four hours
it's just been terrible. A woman actually sadly has died

(01:21):
when a tree fell on a cabin. She was in
up at noammor on the New South Wales Victoria border.
She was holidaying there with her husband. He was taken
to hospital. He's still in hospital. Unfortunately she passed away.
And in New South Wales we've had flights canceled because
of the strong winds. Only one one runway at Sydney

(01:41):
Airport has been able to operate and a lot of
the flights that were canceled were actually between Sydney and Melbourne.
The flights just couldn't take off at all.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
Goodness mean leslie very quickly. This animal handler dream World,
Gold Coast bitten by a tiger. Was the handler feeding
it or do we know why they were?

Speaker 2 (01:58):
In? Mainland World hasn't actually said what actually happened. All
we've said is that it's under investigation. And what happened
was that she was in the enclosure with the tiger,
forty seven year old, a very experienced animal handler, and
there were other tigers in the enclosure as well, and

(02:21):
this one mauled her and she's got puncture wounds and
lacerations and she's still in hospital. She's okay, but she's
obviously pretty shaken up. But they're still investigating.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
All right, Leslie, thank you very much for the update.
Leslie Yeomans with us our Australia correspondent. I looked up
that enclosure this morning at Dreamworld, the only location in Queensland.
They say where guests can tongue feed a tiger. You
put some meat in a tong you stick it through
the fence and fifteen minutes later fifty five dollars it

(02:53):
will cost you through the cage. You obviously don't get
in the cage with the tiger. Fifty five dollars so
really will cost you an arm in the league.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
