Speaker 1 (00:00):
It was a resounding victory. Obviously, still water to go
under the bridge, but most US networks now calling this
for Donald Trump. And it's not just the White House,
it's flipping the Senate. It's likely keeping the House as well,
and the popular vote and almighty comeback the first time
since the eighteen hundreds of presidents made a non consecutive
return to the Oval office. And Matt Terrell is Marco
(00:22):
Rubio's former chief of staff and managing partner at Firehouse Strategies.
He's with US Live this morning. Matt, Welcome to the show.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
Hey, good to be with you, Thanks for having me.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
Thank you for being here. How are you feeling. Did
you expect it? Did you expect so much from this election?
Speaker 2 (00:40):
Well, certainly, I, like many people, saw some of the
trend lines go in his direction for brosent Trump's direction,
whether it was the pulling the beatty markets, and furthermore,
you're seeing him pulling better on the key issues that
voters cared about, namely the economy, inflation, and Borio security.
He's pulling better than Vice President here are some of
those issues. This election was about those issues by and large,
(01:04):
and it's the reason why he won this.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
Race, what about what is he going to do with
this power? What does the Republican potty do with this power?
Speaker 2 (01:14):
Well, I think he's been very clear throughout the campaign
what he intends to do, and I think you know,
with control of the Senate and likely control maintaining the
House Representatives, do you have an ability to go in
and have a mandate, a political mandate to go in
and implement the policies he campaigned on, whether that's on
taxes and tax reform, you know, whether that's on other
(01:35):
key policies that relate to the border and border security,
among other policies that he campaigned on. But look, the
reality is it's not just control of Congress that he
will likely get you to have with the House of
Representatives and control of the Senate, but also winning the
popular vote. And you know, it's one thing to win
the electoral college when you win the popular vote, and
likely here have both chambers of Congress. For certain he's
(01:57):
won the Senate, but likely we'll maintain control of the
Here it appears with Republican control there. The bottom line
is that's an ndate and that's going to allow him
to go in and implement the policies that he campaigned on,
and that appears the majority of Americans.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
Behind, and the fact that he's managed to shift some
black voters, some Latino voters just shows you that the
pocket book politics rules the RoCE really doesn't. It's the economy.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
Yeah, this was a big win for for President Trump. Look,
he did better across the board with respect to how
he performed in twenty twenty. You look at young voters,
black voters, Hispanic voters, non college educacated voters. He did
very well, particularly for the Republican nominee for president, among
those key voting blocks. And the reality is that helped
him in the key battleground states that he needed to
(02:42):
win in order to win this race. I think this
is a big win for President Trump certainly, like I said,
he's got a political mandate here to go in and
and inmplent the policies that he campaigned on. But this
was a very big victory and it was frankly big
to see just how well he did in comparison to
how he performed just four years ago, and where Vice
(03:03):
President Here's underperformed with respect made these key voting blocks
and in comparison with President Biden performed in twenty.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
Twenty, speaking all what happens to who Now?
Speaker 2 (03:15):
Well, look they have between now and you know, January
to go in and continue to policies. You know, they'll
be government here until President Trump is sworn in in January.
But look, the bottom line here is the big thing
here is control of Congress as well, like I said,
and as you see that come into play here, you
know you're gonna have certainly a link duck session here
with the current Congress and emotion and in place. But
(03:38):
you know, the reality is January will be the key month.
That's when you have a new Congress sworn in. Like
I said, control of the Senate is with Republicans. The
Republicans are now controlled the White House. The real questions
about the House representative, but that appears to be going
in the Republican's direction right now, and then from there,
I suspect what you'll see this is just my sense
is that President Trump recognizes that he has kind of
a second chance here. You know, you will second chances
(04:00):
in life, of course, but this is a big second
chance to be president once again. And with that, I
suspect he's not going to waste any time. And then furthermore,
the transition. You know, the presidential transition is already underway.
There are gonna be cabinet positions that he's gonna get
have to get confirmed, putting in key staff members. That's
a big transition, but that's already underway for the Trump
Vans team.
Speaker 1 (04:20):
Matt can gradulations for your party, and thank you very
much for your analysis this morning. I appreciate it. That's
