Prince Harry has returned to the UK to challenge a court decision over his security arrangements in his home country.

The Duke of Sussex has appeared at the High Court in London, appealing last year's ruling the Home Office fairly gave him different levels of taxpayer-funded protection.

The 40-year-old's legal team has questioned the way the decision, taken in early-2020 after Harry and Meghan stepped down as senior working royals, was made.

UK Correspondent Gavin Grey told Andrew Dickens the Duke didn't give evidence, and the hearing's outcome will be revealed at a later date.

New Zealand Business.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Way after the UK. Gavin Greg good morning to you
hither Andrew. What a good job it is to be
Prince Harry's lawyer because he's in court a lot.

Speaker 1 (00:18):
He is, and it seems to be one of the
few reasons he comes back to the UK at the moment.
I don't think it's going to help his popularity, but
he's back in court this time the Court of Appeal
to challenge an earlier High Court decision which went against him.
This is all about the level of security he receives
when he's in the UK. Now. The committee that sits
to decide on this automatically, of course, gives security to

(00:42):
working royals. He is no longer a working royal and
so the Duke's security in the UK is currently decided
on a case by case basis, like any other high
profile visitor to the UK. Prince Harry sat in the
back of the court today with a notepad and pen.
I didn't give evidence. It's a two day hearing and
then the decision will be made at a later date. Interestingly,

(01:05):
his legal representative saying that he should have been told
how the decisions about security were being made. She's not
arguing that he should automatically be entitled to the same
protection he was previously given anyway. Prince Harry claimed that
he had not been given the chance to make his
own case or see the risk assessments, and also outline

(01:25):
some incidents that had happened which he says was a
danger because his security had been downgraded, including a car
pursuit with paparazzi in New York so that's not the UK,
and also al Qaeda calling for the Prince to be
murdered back in twenty twenty. As I said a decision
would be made at a later date.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
Andrew, Well, I wish him lack but when he quit
the job, basically he's ended up being just the same
as Brad Pitton, Taylor Swift, So you know what could
he expect anyway. The big story around the world the
tariffs and the reaction on the sheer markets and the
stop market. So European Indsey rose what three percent after
the week of tariff, So is a bit of a rebound, Yes.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
A little bit of a rebound obviously awaiting this big
decision day now on the tariff war as it were
between the US and China, and for US on the sideline, well, yeah,
more positive territory today. The foot Sea one hundred up
two point seven percent, the CAC forty in Paris up
two point five percent, the Dack's up two and a
half percent. But when you look at how they've gone down,

(02:29):
all the three indices reached their record highs last month
since then, the foot Sea one hundred down eleven percent,
the CAC in Paris down fourteen percent, and the same
for the Dacks down fourteen percent. So huge losses. And
although today, yes, some positive news, well I'm afraid there's
an awful long way to go besween these share values

(02:50):
actually start to recover significantly.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
Yes, and to figure out the whole ramifications of you're
a very wise man for saying that, and I thank
you for your time today. Getn Gray out of the UK.
