Dairy owners say they're seeing the Government's tough on crime approach make practical impacts.

The Government's claiming it's already exceeded its goal of 20 thousand fewer victims of violent crime, well before its 2029 deadline.

It admits the data is volatile and subject to change.

Dairy and Business Owners Group Chairperson Manish Thakkar told Ryan Bridge he's seeing less violent crime in its stores.

He says there's still work to do, but thanks the Government for its work so far.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Right. The government's very happy patting itself on the back,
although they did hasten to add that these numbers are volatile.
We won't get official numbers through until June. But in
terms of victims of crime, this is the Crime and
Victims survey. They reckon there have been one hundred and
fifty seven thousand victims of crime in the year to February.
The target was one hundred and sixty five by twenty

(00:20):
twenty nine. So on these numbers targets twenty five thousand
fewer by twenty twenty nine, they're already at twenty eight
thousand fewer. Does this stack up? Dairy and Business Owners
Group chairperson MANIESE. Thucker is with us this morning. Manish,
Good morning, good morning. Good to have you on the found.
I'm good, thank you. Does this sound right to you? Minish?

Speaker 2 (00:41):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (00:42):
What are you saying?

Speaker 2 (00:47):
Yes? So, first of all, on behalf of the daily
and honors across the country. I want to sincerely congregulate
the coalition governments for taking minnipus to tackle the violence time.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
So do you think these numbers make sense? You're seeing
less violent crime in your in your shops.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
Yeah, number of clients has declined. Yeah. So according to
police data for the year ending thirty thirty first January
twenty twenty five, retail assaults have declined by two percent
and the first state seems a little bit modest number,
but still it is sixty eight fewer crimes.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
Excellent. What do you think is making the difference, Manish.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
Yeah, it is making a lot different mister. Yeah, governments
still need to do more. We are still behind. Were
forty eight percent compared to twenty nineteen and twenty.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
Well, it's a good thing. It's going in the right direction, Manisha.
Appreciate your time this morning, Manishataka, who is with the
Dairy and Business Owners Group.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
