Bharat Chawla: India New Zealand Business Council Chair on the beginning free trade negotiations

A Government delegation has landed in the Indian capital to kick-start Free Trade Agreement talks.  

The Prime Minister, along with several other ministers, visited India earlier this year to improve diplomatic ties.  

India New Zealand Business Council Chair Bharat Chawla told Ryan Bridge India will hope to make movement in New Zealand easier for its people.  

He says it will also be looking to make use of New Zealand's fruit and dairy industries.

What what? How are these talks going to work? Because
there's a framework which Australia used which we're apparently going
to piggyback off the back off, Is that right?

Speaker 2 (00:33):
I think yeah, this is what It'll make it easier
also because in the framework of dealing with Australia or region,
which makes easier for New Zeland to follow or I
think Indian would follow that, if I'm not wrong.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
We want a better deal than the Aussie though, don't
we Yeah, we.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
Want a better deal than AUSSI the simple as.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
That, what are we going to do to get it?
What are the big what are the big prizes we've got?
Because obviously we want dairy right, which is which is well,
what are the big prizes that they want from us?

Speaker 2 (01:02):
I think India wants tech in their wants primary industry
including ki fruit and which I said, the dairy provides
a lot of support. Also it's in terms of the
infessional salms and not. At the same time, yes, must
looking for more of the people to invest in India.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
Also, what about because I saw the CEO of Sadima
Hotels the other day talking about visas you know visas
for Indian workers but now being processed in New Zealand
because of worries about scams in India slowing things down,
making it harder. Would that be a little fruit we
could dangle.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
I totally agree Ran. If you see when we went
to India we have immigration and education a CEOs or
a kind of high officials does. So we are expecting
with this FTA, the people movement would become easier. And
that is what Indian government always wants with any FDA
they do. And if you see for tourism, music and

also they want vise us to be steam lined to
make sure that the numbers increase, multifolds to make it
a much better deally.
