(00:02):
I never understood why they didn't have, uh, some deck out here,
right, a player's lounge, rightfor them to go out on sunny days.
Yes, and just kind of lookout over the lake. I mean
it's right there, but there's nothere's no deck. Yeah, yeah,
it makes sense. Is that's aI have more on thought about that,
Hugh. This has got to bethe only piece of property on this entire

(00:25):
lake, right that doesn't have adeck that faces If you went north and
south on this side of the lake, north and south on that side,
you're probably right. Every every house, every building has to have some kind
of a porch deck or whatever, and there's nothing here. But the good
news is the owners like a gazillionaire, and if they want to add that
at a later day, they probablycould do that. I just can't believe

(00:47):
it was an oversight at the timeof By the way, this is the
kind of stuff that you talk aboutwhen you're waiting forty seven decks for your
TV to be on the clock atnumber eighty one in the third round and
got we're I'll sitting and yes,said, well, Snyder's got a trade
down. He's got a trade down. Right. Takes Byron Murphy at number
sixteen, and all of a sudden, this is like three four years in

(01:07):
a row, HU where John Schneiderhas woken up on the Thursday night of
the NFL Draft and the first roundpick he has he's used it. Yeah,
well he's changing his moo, right, I'm in for a long time.
He's growing up, He's but sure, I don't know. I think
he would say he was eager tomove back. But yes, the opportunities
didn't develop, and they got aguy that they claim was the number one

(01:29):
guy on their board defensively, andyou know, inclined to believe him.
Latu was the only one who's onepick before, so they had the second
defensive player. So it's entirely possible. I didn't get to hear your reaction
to the pick because I was inthe car. I was talking to my
wife on the way home yesterday. But Byron Murphy, I think we all
saw him in the Sugar Bowl againstTexas. He was in the backfield constantly

(01:53):
in that game, and Michael Pennix, I thought, did a great job
with his feet of getting away fromnumber ninety. I also saw a play
where first driver of the game thatlong ball to Jalen Polk where Byron Murphy
ends up on Fatano and kind ofjust gives up on that play. But
what was the reaction, what wasthe take on the air when Byron Murphy
was announced? I think it wasmostly positive, just because he's a productive
player, clearly and in just abouteverybody's eyes, the number one defensive tackle

(02:17):
on the board, and I thinkthat everybody's idea of the prototypical defensive tackle
has changed when everybody saw Aaron Donald'scareer. And not to say, obviously,
this guy's Aaron Donald, I don'teven think that should be said.
I think we should be able totalk about a guy's style and not have
to tell people we're hey, we'renot saying that he's the level of a

(02:39):
Hall of Fame player, maybe thetop three defensive player of all time,
like that should go without saying, but nonetheless we'll say it anyways. And
uh, but you know, sixfoot to six foot one, Uh,
incredible, incredible quickness. That's hisgame. A three tech, which is
the outside shade of the guard man, the B gap, get up field
penetrate. He's not ideally built tobe a two gap, meaning I'm just

(03:00):
clogged things up. You want himshooting gaps and penetrating and and you know,
for those concerned about his size,it's not just Aaron Donald who had
eight sacks or excuse me, eightPro bowls a lot more in eight sacks
that would be like a month forhim. But if you take the the
defensive tackles since two thousand, thatmeasure between six foot and six foot one

(03:22):
right. Uh, And by theway, Murphy's exactly six foot and a
half. You had Aaron Donald hadeight Pro bowls. Gino Atkins also had
eight Pro Bowls for Cincinnati. CaseyHamilton had five, Kyle Williams for Buffalo
had five, Grady Jarrett had two, and then you know John Randall and
Jerrol Casey. There's some some olderguys that that made some Pro Bowls.

(03:46):
So I I just think that youknow, there's there's some examples of guys.
It's it's not typical. Yeah,he's in the second percentile, meaning
ninety eight percent of all defensive tacklesare taller than him. But with those
those other physical attributes, you seehow he can be a playmaker. Indeed,
he was it at Texas. Iwas happy with the pick. I

(04:09):
would have rather had Troy Faltanu.I understand though, why he went defense.
And I think that John had everyintention of trading down. But if
you would have told John before thedraft started, John, there's going to
be fourteen consecutive offensive players selected, including six quarterbacks, right, and you
are going to get your opportunity totake the number one defensive player in college

(04:31):
football on your board. Are yougoing to trade down now? Brother?
I think yeah, pick especially atthat position by the way, right,
I mean, it's not like theSeahawks already have Charles Cross or let's say
they already have DK Metcalf and thenthe number one player on their board happens
to be a wide receiver. Well, they got Metcalf, they got Lockett,
they got JSN. We're not doingthat defensive tackle. Man. I

(04:55):
know you asked about Leonard Williams inthe three technique question yesterday. Rotate these
guys or maybe, hey, howabout you get kind of maybe unique and
maybe play somebody somewhere else, Playthose two guys together, because you're gonna
have to play at Leonard Williams andByron Murphy at the same time. Otherwise,
why did you draft this guy?Yeah? But if you look at
how they played Leonard Williams, it'sbeen eighty five percent has been at the

(05:18):
three tech. Okay, he hasthe body style. Certainly, he has
more versatility where you'd say, couldhe play him at a five tech if
you played in underfront, that's wherehe saw slide the defensive line to the
weak side, kind of the RedBryant. Remember how Red Bryant played.
So he played the Red Bryant rolewhere he's over the tackle, but he
but he also has a linebacker tothe outside of him, and that's a

(05:40):
kind of a two gap role. But I'm not sure if that maximizes his
attributes. But I think that's thething for me is yeah, I can
see on on third down, Hell, he can do whatever the heck you
want. You can have two,you could have two three techniques that are
so damn wide you could almost onfour eyes. They're like on the inside

(06:00):
shade of the tackles because you don'tneed demand the a gap. But on
first and second down, you gottahave somebody that's a shade or a nose
tackle, either a zero one tech. Zero's head up on the center.
One technique is is just off hisshoulder. You have to have that that
gap. Man. Well, letme ask you this because we're gonna have

(06:21):
John Michaels from Atlanta's gonna join usin a minute here, guys and talk
about their reaction to Michael Patick's gettingtaken eighth overall. So let me ask
you this. If if Byron Murphywas also number one on your board,
right, like the Seahawks say,he was their number one defender left on
their board, would you have passedon him because you had Leonard Williams yesterday.

(06:43):
Uh, that's a good question. It would depend on how close the
second place guy on the defense was. Let's say, do Byron Murphy got
you. Let's say Dallas Turner wasmy number two and you basically said it's
it's a coin flip, yeah whatever, Yeah, then I would probably have
gone Dallas Turner big Foughtanu. I'mgonna choose my words carefully. I think

(07:05):
that there there's been subjects. Ithink there's a little bit teeth to the
the the idea that there could besome concerns about that knee right and and
so you know that that I thinkmay have played a factor in the decision.
But getting back to the defensive guys. Dallas Turner's you know, a
clean prospect, played outside linebacker, you know, same team, in same

(07:29):
position as Will Anderson, who wholeft Alabama a year ago went to the
Texans number three overall pick and wasthe defensive rookie of the year. And
Dallas Turner's even more of an athlete, although not quite as good against that.
Well, let's revisit that today. We're gonna have a lot of time
between now and seven o'clock. Notlikely the Hawks make their pick between now
and seven, by the way, closer to eight is probably more likely,

(07:50):
but plenty of time to kind ofchew on the Byron Murphy selection from yesterday.
But all of us were sitting herestunned when the announcement came down that
Michael Penny from You Dub was goingto be the pick for the Falcons at
number eight. I only can imaginewhat the reaction was of our next guest,
our buddy from Atlanta, host onsix to eighty the Fan morning show
guy out there in Atlanta, ourlongtime buddy John Michael's with us on the

(08:13):
air. Johnny, how are youpal doing great? How you guys doing?
We're good? So We're all bigPedix fans here, obviously, we
all think it's a great spot forhim to be at, sit behind Kirk
Cousins for maybe a couple years anddo what Aaron Rodgers didn't show up when
you're twenty seven years old and bepolished and be ready to rock. But
what was the reaction? What wasyour reaction when the Falcons made that pick

(08:35):
yesterday? Yeah, my first reactionwas, WTF, what are you guys
doing? You just spent one hundredand eighty million dollars on a quarterback of
the offseason because we didn't have one. We had a bomb in Desmond Ritter
and Marcus Mariot of the year before, who was pretty terrible. Why would
you spend all of your free agentmoney on a quarterback, don't fill any
of your other needs and draft aquarterback at number eight overall. And I'll

(08:58):
say this, and I know youguys are out there the album. I
actually really like Michael Pennix the player. You guys know how much I love
college football, watching Washington from afar, watching them close during the playoffs,
the Pac twelve championship game, theNational Championship Game. The kid can throw
a football through a pinhole. He'sunbelievable. But on the list of needs
that the Falcons had on a fiftythree man roster, backup quarterback for the

(09:20):
next two years was probably fifty first, only behind kicker with Yung Way Ku.
So I didn't understand the selection atall, and I hope they've got
something up their sleeve tonight to addresspass rush, to address linebacker, cornerback,
a bunch of places on the defensiveside where we need it. What
are Falcons fans saying about the Cousinscamp being ticked off? Because this is

(09:41):
a guy that's made three hundred milliondollars in his career and has won one
playoff game, and Falcons fans don'thave any ties to Kirk Cousins Dave.
He's never thrown a pass for theFalcons, So are they upset with him
or are they in his camp?I think some of the fans are in
his camp. Quite frankly, Ididn't know how to react to them not
telling him. On one hand, you know, I say, professional courtesy,

(10:05):
you tell a quarterback, hey, this is what we're thinking about doing.
But on the other hand, he'sbeen in the franchise for like a
month and a half, like, what the hell do we owe you to
tell you what the plans are. It's not like they were going to call
Kirk Cousins and say, hey,Kirk, we want to pick a quarterback.
What do you think about this? And if he would have told them
no, they would have changed theirpick. So I've kind of gone back
and forth. I think a lotof the fans are on his side,

(10:26):
saying, wait a second, youpicked up, you move family, You're
coming down to Atlanta. You're tryingto be a savior for a franchise that's
been futrid since I was on thesideline years and years ago. But for
the most part, I don't thinkpeople really care what his reaction is one
way or another. It's basically,go play quarterback for us for two years,
get us back to the playoffs, and then go ahead and retire or
whatever you feel like doing. Terryfont know the GM down there. He's

(10:50):
been the subject of a meme.I assume you've seen it with he and
Arthur Blank, the owner, andkind of let one of those like hal
fill in the caption. It lookslike Arthur Blank is just perplexed on this.
What's the actual story. Did ArthurBlank sign off on this? Of
course, he's the guy who hadto sign off on the cousin's acquisition.

(11:11):
What's And then further we heard fromTerry Fonto he said, hey, if
he had if Pennix has to sitfor four or five years, did I
read that quote right? I meanPenix is gonna be twenty four in a
couple weeks. I mean we're talkingwhat twenty eight, twenty nine? What's
the what's the status of Terry fontno the GM down there, you know.
And it's so interesting if you goback three months ago when the Falcons

(11:33):
fire, maybe five months ago atthis point, Times Flying, when they
fired Arthur Smith. Their press conferenceto announce the firing, Terry Fontnau was
not there, and Arthur Blank satdown and came up with this convoluted ORG
chart about how Smith and Fontana wereanswering the team president, Rich McKay,
who we never thought had anything todo with football operations anymore. Well,
then when they hired Raheem Morris, you know, three weeks later, whatever

(11:56):
it was something, Rich McKay wasoff to the MLS team with Atlanta,
and we're going, wait, whatthe hell's going on here and now everybody's
answering directly up to mister Blank. So Arthur Blank would have had to sign
off on this for them to makethat pick. I think the meme is
just one you catch. You know, you catch somebody in conversation and the
picture doesn't necessarily look right. So, you know, I don't think Arthur

(12:18):
Blank would have allowed Terry Fontina justto go rogue and draft a quarterback.
But you know the second part tothat, you know, when you start
to think about where this team isand everything that's coming down with that Blank
is going to sign off, youknow. But the fact that they said
maybe four to five years, nochance Kirk Cousins is really on it,
two year, ninety million dollars deal. The Falcons can get out from under

(12:39):
it with about twenty million dollars indead cap after next season. So I
think the true plan is Cousins beyour quarterback for two years if things go
well, or if Pennix is ready, they turn it over to him.
I guess that would be in thetwenty twenty sixth season, right, Yeah,
John, I'm just I'm looking atover thecap dot Com and they've got
him if they cut him before thetwenty five season, so he's there for

(13:01):
one year. They're saying it's sixtyfive million if it's by the twenty sixth
season, it's thirty five million ifhe plays two years, and then that
drops to twelve and a half afterthree years. So you're telling me it's
more likely that they just cut Cousinsafter two seasons and turn it over to
him and swallow that thirty five milliondollar hit. I think they would,

(13:22):
because why would you draft a kidto sit for three entire years. I
know the Packers did it with JordanLove. I know Patrick Mahomes only sat
for a year with Alex Smith. My thing to Falcon fans, and I
was telling them today, I said, the difference is being day when they
did it with Brett fav to AaronRodgers and then Aaron Rodgers that Jordan Love.
They were winning franchise, They're goingto the playoffs everything. Guess what

(13:45):
you could sit a first round pickand have that luxury. The Falcons haven't
been to the playoffs since twenty seventeen. It's twenty twenty four. I was
thirty pounds lighter and seven years younger, and a hell of a lot better
looking than I am right now sevenyears ago. So we don't have time
and luxury to sit there and waitfor somebody for three years. So I
do think you would probably eat itat thirty five million coming up after two

(14:07):
years, unless the caveat to thatwould be unless Kirk Cousins has had us
in the playoffs back to back yearsand we're looking like a really good football
team. Well, I guess thenthe calendar to me doesn't make any sense
because they signed Cousins to the contracton March eleventh. Was that the first
day of free agency? I thinkit may have been, and then they
said that, then they send abig crew up here on the fifth of

(14:28):
April to talk and you know, have a private workout with Michael Penix.
You're telling me that since March eleventh, we're talking seven weeks ago, in
the last seven weeks, they fellin love with Michael Pennix. Yeah,
that's what it sounds like. Isaw Diana Rossini's tweet this morning. She
said the Falcons did not even haveMichael Pennix in the top thirty workouts for

(14:50):
people to get to come to yourdirect camp, and they barely talk to
them. I guess at the combine. But the private workout, they said
when they flew across and they senteverybody scouts, GM, you know,
assistant coaches, head coaches, everything. Apparently Michael Penix completely wowed them through
the workout and you guys see iton a week by week basis with the
way that he can throw the balland you know, obviously brought you doubt

(15:11):
to unbelievable heights this year. Theyfell in love with him. I still
don't understand it. I'm never gonnaunderstand it. You know, I don't
know in the history of the NFL, where I've seen somebody draft somebody at
eight when you're losing franchise and letthem sit for two years. Normally,
when you take a guy at numbereight, he better dan well be a

(15:31):
starter coming in August in September andnot waiting for two more years. Well,
they could have saved themselves, youknow, one hundred million dollars by
just watching Penicks film this week duringgames that that would have been something.
But why would they spend that investmentin even sending everybody out to see Michael
Pennix if obviously they didn't see enoughon film over the last two years to

(15:52):
indicate that he's in their top thirtyright again, it makes those sense.
One of the things they said today, and I think this is trying to
justify and they may have said itlast night. Time has kind of run
together for me, but I thinkone of the things they said was we
didn't want to have another Matt Ryansituation. Remember how it played out a
couple of years ago where they courtedDeshaun Watson. It was talked about they

(16:14):
were going to have Deshaun Watson, and then the last second, Cleveland comes
in with that ridiculous guaranteed deal andthe next day Matt Ryan said trade me
or I'm out, and they endedup with no quarterback. So I think
they may have panicked a little biteven with Kirk Cousins signing that deal,
realizing he is coming off to theAchilles. You know, Taylor Heineke is
a backup, stop gap, oneweek type guy at best. They made

(16:37):
him take a five million dollar paycut anyway, But I don't get where
you wouldn't have seen on film. You know, it's not like Washington was
Washington State draped in anonymity. Theywere a team that was front and center
throughout the end of the year whenthe Falcons weren't playing for anything, So
you should have had your scouts outthere watching one of the premier quarterbacks in
the country, a kid that probablyshould have won the Heisman this past year.

(16:57):
For whatever reason, they dropped theball. Maybe it was you know,
again, they did have a coachingregime change. Maybe some of the
guys behind the scenes, you know, had to convince Rahim Morris. Maybe
Zach Robinson had seen more of themwhen he was in Los Angeles with the
Rams as there, you know, quarterback coach, and he fell in love
with him. I don't know,it just doesn't make sense. And I'll
go back to something you guys arejust talking about. With money. Falcons

(17:19):
have no dns to speak of.They need a second corner. They could
have spent the money they spent onKirk Cousins and got daneil Hunter Lagarious Need
from the Chiefs and signed Chase Youngand still drafted Michael Pennick, and I
think they would have been a betterspot than they are right now. Well,
you said that you like Pennix theplayer, the quarterback. What's the

(17:40):
tenor down there? Aside from thewhole fiasco involving Cousins and that aspect.
What about just Michael Pennix, thequarterback. He's a top ten pick for
the Falcons. You know, obviouslysome of the advantage of having a number
one pick is lost because the advantageof having an one pick is you get
him on a rookie contract. Wellyou're paying a veteran contract to somebody else.

(18:03):
But aside from all that, justthe player our Falcon fans happy and
do they do Do you get thesense that they know enough about his game
to be happy. I don't knowthat they know enough. I think in
our region of the country they getvery SEC blinded, very SEC dominant.
They don't believe that people can playfootball anywhere else in the country other than

(18:25):
the SEC. I have to dealwith that every day with Georgia fans,
and for the most part they're spoton. But in this case they're not.
I think when they look past andthe hardest thing right now is getting
past the anger of the initial reactionof what happened. I think once we
get the mini camp, once weget the training camp and people actually can
see this guy throw the football.Remember, you know, Cousin's coming off
an Achilles he may not do anythingin training camp or preseason other than just

(18:51):
doing some film work, so you'regoing to see a lot of penics.
I think the people that know football, I know all the guys I work
with, we love him, theactual quarterback, love the film. I'm
not necessarily worried about an ACL froma couple of years ago or a dinged
up shoulder. He had two healthyseasons at Washington where they went what twenty
seven and three over that three ortwo year stretch. I think when people

(19:14):
look at the football player alone andtake away the emotion, they're gonna love
what Michael Pennix is. But Ithink that's gonna be get through the draft,
get through a couple of weeks orrookie camps, get to some mini
camps and actually sit down and watchthem before fans will allow that anger to
go away. John Michaels six toeight of the fan, Good luck,
man, have fun with this downthere. This will be the gift that
keeps on giving for a long damntime for you guys down there, So

(19:37):
soak it up, beat it todeath, and we'll talk soon, buddy,
Thanks man, anytime, guys. All right, John Michael's from Atlanta.
I want to come back in morethoughts on this because the more and
more I think about this draft pickby Atlanta, I love it for Michael,
but from the Falcons perspective, thereare so many potential land mines here
that might start going off at anysecond down there. It's crazy. We'll

(19:57):
get to that. We'll talk aboutwhat the Hawks maybe up to at number
eighty one. Overall. Tonight,we're alive at the Virginia Mason Athletics Center,
Softy Dick and Hugh right here onninety three three KJRFM. Welcome to
the NFL drafts Now back to SUTIon your home for the twenty twenty four
NFL Draft and cml's best NFL Draftcover Seattle Seahawks Eptoe This Morts Radio,

(20:18):
ninety three point three kJ R NFLJust exactly what you said, Like I
always up against it, you know, overcome whatever the dubts people had about
him. And when guys play hardlike that, everybody like to throw out
a game. And his play timeshigh too, right, So I mean
he's you know, it's it's it'sit's very important to him. That's the

(20:41):
voice that John Schneider talking about.Byron Murphy, who the Hawks took at
number sixteen yesterday in the first roundof the NFL Draft. We're back here
at the Virginia Mason Athletics Center,Softy, Dick and Hugh until at least
seven o'clock tonight. We'll see whenthe Hawks are on the clock. Probably
well after seven, number eighty oneoverall, so doubtful that pick comes in
before seven o'clock. More likely aroundeight ish, eight thirty or so tonight.

(21:04):
That's if they stay there. Bigthanks to our friends at Hunt Services.
Get on the horn and call HuntsFrost Brewed Corps Light. She's chill.
Excuse me, choose chill? Youknow what I need? Glasses.
By the way, Zeke's Pizza, homegrown of the pnw R and our foundation
Specialist Action Sports Bar and Grill andFox thirteen. More on Byron Murphy in
a minute. I want to goback to the Michael Pennock's conversation. Guys.

(21:26):
We had last segment. So theKirk Cousins contract was announced on March
eleventh. On April fifth, theFalcon sent a contingent to Seattle to meet
with and work out Michael Pennick. So you're telling me that between March twelfth
and sometime after April fifth, orduring that time, the Falcons fell in
love enough with Michael Pennix to say, we don't need Kirk Cousins for four

(21:49):
years. We're willing to eat thirtyfive, potentially fifteen million dollars of his
contract and turn this thing over toa rookie. Or, as I was
asking Dick, did they just complyoverestimate what the rest of the NFL thought
about Michael Pennix. I just can'tfigure out why, if they were in
love with Michael Pennix, why they'deven think about giving Kirk Cousins that contract

(22:11):
because Pennix was going to be thereat eight Unless they just again overestimated what
the rest of the NFL thought abouthim. Maybe they thought there was no
way he'd be there at it,which sounds crazy. That sounds crazy,
of course, just because then theymust have had another quarterback that they liked
there. I mean, nobody projectedthat six quarterbacks were going to go in
the top twelve picks. Nobody.I didn't see that in any mock ever,

(22:32):
that six quarterbacks we're going to goin the top twelve. So the
thing I just can't put together. Is how they change so much in their
thought process about Michael Pennix in awould you say a three week span March
eleventh, April first correct a threeand a half week span. How does
your thought process at that position changeso much in three and a half weeks.

(22:55):
It could have something to do withOkay, they're sitting there. They
don't like Desmond Ritter. Uh,that's been a catastrophe. Kirk Cousin comes
available and they say, do wewant Kirk Cousins for four years? No,
but it's gonna take a four yearcontract. And we all know that
you have spread the signing bone usover the life of the contract. Look,
I've been trying to nail down thedetails. Every time I look at

(23:18):
a source, I get it somethingdifferent. Cousins contract you're talking about,
Yeah, because you were, youwere going over the cap. I'm looking
at spot track right, I havetwenty twenty six, a pre June first
release dead cap of thirty five million, YEP, a post six to one
release of dead cap of twenty twoto five million, and then and then

(23:41):
and then if you do that, then twenty twenty seven you have a dead
cap of twelve five. Those aresomewhat manageable numbers when you imagine the last
two are for sure. Yeah, when you imagine the the salary cap increasing
the way it has, and ifyou imagine Pennix being on, which he

(24:03):
will, he'll be on a rookiecontract. So I think that it's possible.
They just said, hey, look, Kirk Cousins is going to be
our quarterback for the next couple ofyears, but we are actively looking for
his successor. And it's also possibleguys starting to repue here. It's also
possible that they have to make adecision on Michael Pennox's fifth year option before
he even plays for the Falcons.Well, because that option has to be

(24:26):
picked up before year four. Well, that was an Aaron Rodgers situation,
and almost the Jordan Love situations. You got right, Well, Aaron Rodgers,
so Brett Farv. In two thousandand five, when Aaron Rodgers was
drafted, Brett Farv was thirty six, Aaron Rodgers was twenty one. He
didn't turn twenty two until December ofhis rookie year, so he sat in

(24:51):
two thousand and five, sat intwenty twenty six two, and then sat
in twenty twenty. But the fourthyear that he played, he turned twenty
five at the end sure December.Right, he's a lot younger than that
year. The difference is the Packershad not just signed Brett Farr to one
hundred million dollar expense. Understood, that's the difference. Well, there's a
lot of differences. I get.I'm not I understand. I'm just trying

(25:15):
to put it into some context.Look, it was I think it was
very strange that going into Aaron Rodgers'fourth year he had not played. But
there's another difference. So they onlyhad one year to determine whether or not
they wanted to exercise the fifth year. The other difference is that Aaron Rodgers
fell into the Packers lap, right, I mean he was. He was

(25:37):
in some mocks to be first pickoverall two or three months before. He
just fell into their lap. Thisis a situation where you are aggressively taking
a guy in the top ten becauseyou like him so much, two months
after giving a guy this year.Right. I don't think the Falcons ever
thought they could get him at numbereight. Why, Well, they just

(25:59):
crazy because there's no way after signingKirk Cousins to that contract. You would
have thought they would have already doneall their homework on Michael Patticks. They
would have watched all the film, broken everything down. I mean, guys,
this is two and a half monthsafter the Roskie season comes to an
end, for crying out loud,So you're telling me that all of a
sudden on April the fifth, likewow, we had no idea this guy
could throw it, Like, well, you gotta be kidding. I would

(26:21):
describe what the Chiefs did is aggressiveto go get Pat Mahomes. They were
at twenty seven, they tripped toten. Yes, that was aggressive.
We what the forty nine ers didto trade up to three to get Trey
Lance? What the what Carolina didto move up to one to take Bryce

(26:41):
Young? On and on and on. But they didn't have the Redskins at
at RG three like the Falcons.Yes, eighth, this has a lot
more value than twenty third, forsure. But Atlanta stood put. You
know that was that was their pickgoing into the draft, and they exercised
their pick on the eighth and andand that's a high value pick. Sure.
And if I'm Kirk Cousins, I'mleaving. Are you pitched I'm very

(27:03):
pissed, right so uh Orlowsky thismorning said that Cousins was irritated and then
got himself together. I mean,Kirk Cousins has a great reputation around the
NFL. Is a really is areally good dude. I'm not sure if
you've met him or not, buthe comes across as a great guy.
Asked for Penix's number, called himup. But you're if you're Kirk Cousins.
First of all, nobody's made moremoney in the NFL for doing less

(27:26):
than Kirk Cousins has. When itcomes to playoff I agree, Okay,
I mean he is. He's madethree hundred million dollars at this point,
he will make at least three hundredand fifty in his career one million guarantees
for Atlanta. He's won one playoffgame? And has he ever helped me
out here? Has Kirk Cousins everbeen considered, in any year of his
career a consensus top five quarterback inthe NFL? Probably not top five,

(27:49):
but but maybe seven or eight.I'm with Softie. He's been well.
He's one of only five quarterbacks inhistory to oh jeez, what was it?
The twenty five of straight years oftwenty five touchdowns or more like he's
done some Look, I don't thinkhe's an elite quarterback, but he's been
very solid. What you're talking aboutCousins, So he's a good guy.

(28:11):
Everything you said are not are notexclusive. There's there's take the Ben Roethlisberger
away. Ben Roethlisberger said, KennyPickett, I ain't. I ain't.
You know, I'm not. I'mnot helping anybody, right, So it's
possible because Cousins a good guy. You're right. I could absolutely see Cousins
when it happens, being furious andstill being furious, but taking the high

(28:37):
round and but saying what am Igonna do? I'm not gonna take it
out on Michael Pennicks. By allaccounts I hear, Michael Penicks is a
great guy. I have to bein a quarterback meeting room with him.
He and I are going to beyou know, I don't want the energy,
So I'm gonna I'm gonna take,as you said, the high road.
I'm gonna be a good dude toMichael Pennix because Michael Pennix's you know,
if I'm Kirk Cousins to saying MichaelPennockx's fault, right, you know,

(29:00):
he's just sitting around and all ofa sudden he gets a call.
Fee should be a good dude tothe team that just overpaid him, Like
you wouldn't believe too though, right, I mean, I can understand inwardly
being pissed, but you just gotmassively overpaid. Are you going to be
mad at your employer who just gaveyou more money than God? You and
I have a different impression of overpaidbecause if he wouldn't have got it from

(29:22):
the Falcons, he would have gotat or near that from somebody else.
That's just a market. If you'reif you're seven foot tall and and you
can eat with chopsticks without I'm havinga problem. You're gonna play a center
in the NBA, and you're gonnamake a lot of money, Okay,
And so so that's just because there'sa scarcity and what you the scarce of

(29:45):
talent and value that you bring canactually bring money. So I think he
the reason I'd be pissed if I'mKirk Cousins is I had a lot of
options. If you'd have told methat you were gonna take the I just
assumed that you're gonna take the eighthpick to get alignment or he'll just the
pass rush. Yeah, take Dallasturnertill you met him. Somebody who can

(30:07):
help him win? Get somebody,Yes, warn it. I'm thirty five
years old, right like, we'llwin now, right now, I get
it. We gotta get a break. Chuck Powell is gonna join us.
They have an event at the ActionSports Bar and Grill and Kent coming up
tonight at five. We've got Chuckstake on the draft and then round two,
Baby, here we go. TheHawks on the clock at number eighty
one. Jackson did the research andclaims that last year pick eighty one was

(30:30):
made at six thirty eight PM.Yep, So you never know. We
may have a shot to get thisthick in before seven o'clock tonight. Coming
up on ninety three to three KJRFM, the NFL drafts Now back to Sutian
Dish on your home for the twentytwenty four NFL Draft at cml's Best NFL
Draft Cover Seattle Seahawks. Thatpto theSports Radio ninety three point three KJR FM's

(30:56):
not Aaron Donald, but he testedlike that, you know, I mean
he's he's got that compact style abouthim. You know, all these statistics
we have now, all this analyticsstuff like his explosive rate, like he
gets to the quarterback quicker than anybody. So, but the body type is
that's the body type comparison. ObviouslyAaron Donald would all know, that's John

(31:17):
Schneider talking about Byron Murphy's body bodytype, not my body type, but
buyer Murphy's body type. Speaking ofa great body, I'd say, what
do you think, Dick the mostphysically fit person on staff here are at
kJ R. Arguably he's in thetop two or three. Chuck Powell one
third of the Morning Show. He'sgot a draft miss party at Action Sports
Bar and Grill in Kent at fiveo'clock tonight, and he joins us,

(31:38):
right now, Chuck, how areyou man? I'm good? Not anymore?
OK? Are you kidding me?The body has gone to it's death
now, Yeah, it's it's youknow, Coffin. Just kind of let
yourself go a little bit there, you think, Yeah, yeah, I
think so, yeah, I'm sureI could make a lap around the track

(32:00):
right now. So all right, well, if you want to see the
kind thought and if you want tosee what Chuck's body is turned into.
Come to Action Sports Bar and Girlshalf o'clock tonight. He'll be there and
he'll down some mazzarella sticks. Thereyou go. So, what's happening tonight?
Holy? Now day Holy? Looklike da holy? Now there you
go. Well, what's happening atAction tonight? Man? This is pretty
cool. You're making a You're makinga rare public appearance. I love that.

(32:21):
Good for you. What's going on? Uh? Well, first of
all, I'm just I'm just droveby you, guys. So I waved,
nobody waved back. But yeah,we're out the Action Sports Bar and
Grill in Kent. We're doing anoffice draftness party this holiday that I launched
about the NFL Draft, I justthought, hey, if we're going to

(32:43):
kind of compare it to Christmas,we need to have a Christmas party.
So we're having a Draftmas party tonight. So you want to come out at
five to eight at Action Sports Barand Grill in Kent. We do expect
every person that lives in Kent tobe there, including the mayor. Uh
and anybody else is invited as well. We're gonna have a few prizes to
give away. We'll play a littlebit of trivia, but we're there to

(33:04):
watch the draft, eat food, and drink alcohol. So if you want
to be a part of it,we should have some fun. I love
it. Well. I could askyou the layup question, but I'm not
going to ask you the layup question. What do you think of Byron Murphy
question? I'm going to ask youabout the Michael Pennock situation, and the
rumor is that Seattle was one ofthe teams. The reports are that Seattle
is one of the teams that tradedup. So, Chuck, do you

(33:28):
think not having a second round pick? Do you think that Leonard Williams being
on this football team cost the SeattleSeahawks Michael Pennix because they did not have
the requisite power to trade up tothat spot and get him. Well,
you know, you know what,we might hope we might hold on to

(33:50):
that period, but it sounds likea lot of teams are trying to get
up to get him, you know, this entire process. He's a second
rounder. To know he's the topthree pick. You no, he's the
top three pick. Now he's thesecond rounder. I mean, it was
insane. What hot button topic prospectthat he was in this NFL draft,

(34:12):
So I think it probably would havecost more considering it as a quarterback.
Considering that seems like they had alot of suitors, you know, period
to get up to the eighth spotin the draft in order to get Michael
Pennick Junior. So it might havecost even more than at first. In
a second rounder, you might havehad to part with next year's number one
as well. Well, we canall throw away our subscriptions to mel Kiper

(34:34):
because you were the most adamant personI heard that there's going to be six
guys go in the top by ofthe first round, he said, you
know, and thirteen was the mark, right with the Raiders. By thirteen,
they're all going to be gone.See, how's not gonna have a
chance at any of them? Sowhy were you so convicted? And so
that we can go make some moneyat Vegas? What's your prediction for the

(34:58):
next couple of days. I wasconvicted for two reasons. Number One,
until a franchise has its franchise quarterback, you're going to need a franchise quarterback,
and they were just in the secondreason, there were just too many
lax teams in free agency with thequarterback position. In my opinion, there
was a gauntlet from eleven to thirteenof teams that I thought had to have

(35:22):
one. We knew three were comingoff the board with the first three picks,
and so if there was going tobe a surprise like a giant of
six or as it turns out Atlantaat eight, there weren't enough quarterbacks to
even go around. I also feltthat Denver was going to really like bow
Knicks, and it turns out thatthey did. So yeah, I said

(35:42):
that they'd all be gone by picktwelve. Turns out they were all gone
by pick twelve, and so alot of people are saying I was crazy,
but I stuck to my guns, and it turns out the Seahawks never
had to make that decision. Well, good for you. The draft Miss
office party going on five o'clock untileight o'clock tonight, Action Sports Bar and
Grill and Kent. Bucky will bethere. Ashley will be there along with

(36:05):
Chuck. And the word around theoffice is that Chuck just got a gigantic
raise, so he's buying pilling.By the way, congratulation almost obscene how
much they're paying this guy now.So come see Chuck, he's got the
credit card. It's on him.Action Sports Bar and Grill in Camp across
the street from Camp Meridy In HighSchool at five o'clock tonight. How fun,
buddy. We'll talk soon, allright by Chuck. All right man,
thanks, I'll be listening, youbet, Chuck Powell with us.

(36:28):
We're gonna break Round two of theNFL Draft. Here we go. Hawks
on the clock at eighty one, coming up on ninety three to three KJRFM.
