night, Cal Rowley with the walkoffGrand Slam gave the MS to win.
The Boys now thirty eight and thirty. But some sad news or bad news.
I guess it could be sad. We'll see what happens today. Bryan

(00:45):
Wu apparently has been scratched from tonight'sstarts. Jonathan Diaz, who was signed
as a free agent and back inFebruary, will take his spot in tonight's
Mariner rotation. More news on thatcoming from T Mobile Park. In the
hour, he was the starter whenwe were at the Rainiers game a couple
of weeks though unreal. Maybe maybeit is the US women's basketball team releasing
their Olympic roster with a couple oflocal connections. Storm guard Jewel Lloyd making

(01:07):
her second Olympic team, former Huskyguard and Kelsey Plumb making her first Olympic
team, but was on the threeon three roster in twenty twenty. You're
looking for a joint practice for theSeahawks in the fall. You got one.
The Seahawks today announcing a joint practicewith the Tennessee Titans in Tennessee ahead
of their August seventeenth preseason game againstthe Titans in Nashville. You know what

(01:29):
that means, Dick, What's fights? Fights? My first thing I thought
was practice when it's one hundred andseven degrees out, which I don't think
six exactly. John Rahm concerned, but still planning on playing in this week's
US Open. He has an infectedlesion on his two. It forced him
out of last time. Slip turnamentjust makes up it up gone. He

(01:51):
got a straight hammy. Come on, dude. NBA Finals Boston up two
games tonight, Game three at Dallastomorrow at five thirty in the Stanley Cup
Finals Florida. Another win yesterday, the lead the Stanley Cup Finals two games
to non. Game three at EdmontonThursday, four to thirty. Pre game
five o'clock face off right here onninety three three KJRF go and now to

(02:15):
goofy Waco out of touch Homers Justbree radio just for forty one yards from
Elliott Bay. Can you feel itdown? This is Softy and Dick.
All right, what's the panic level? What's the panic level? The deaf
con level is one is the worst? Is that correct? There is five?

(02:36):
One is the worst. One's theworst, right, So if we're
doing the deaf con meter, missilesare crossing the ocean. If it's won
kay, one is one's get tothe shelter. I got you. By
the way, have you seen Falloutyet? On Amazon? A couple of
episodes, but unfortunately I was notwarned that I shouldn't have watched them with
the kids. Oh yeah, wegot through about thirty minutes with the kid.

(02:57):
My wife. My wife's usually prettycool about that stuff, like we're
a pretty lenient family. Are youreally okay? And she goes and she
goes, no, are you surethey should be watching this? I was
like, yeah, when we sayLeani and how Lenian are we talking here?
Oh? I mean yeah, swearwords as long as they're not like
every twenty seconds. Yeah when youget that, and I don't even like

(03:20):
watching a movie that has five hundredand seventy two swaar words? Can we
live it till like twenty five?Is that cool? So boogie nights with
the kids, Yeah, that's that'snot gonna happen at this scenes, you
know's documentary ain't happening. I usuallyso what I do if there's you know,
a sex scene or whatever. Igot my finger on the button and
I, you know, I hitthe little thirty second fast thing and then

(03:42):
boom boom. You know. Thisis this is the way we roll here
at the radio station. Because wegot some big news coming from Tiamobile Park.
Brian Wou is not going to starttonight and instead we're talking about sex
scenes on the radio show to beget in the program at three o'clock.
I blame Jackson, he's not here. The whole thing falls apart when Andrews
is in charge. So hey man, and we'll see what happens though,
Scott Servis is gonna talk in afew minutes. We'll follow that along and

(04:03):
repeat anything of note that we hearon the radio station, obviously, But
my guy, we're supposed to besitting here talking about a phenomenal comeback win.
The ms are down four to nothing. Your boy fell asleep after can
Zone's bomb to make it four toone. By the way, so I
woke up about twelve thirty one o'clockin the morning to a plethora of text

(04:24):
messages, Oh my god, holycrap, cow boom right, all that
stuff like what the hell happened?Jumped online and saw that they'd won the
game eight to four with a walkoffgrand slam from Cal Rawley. So kind
of an improbable win last night forthem against the White Sox. The guy's
now thirty eight and thirty and fiveand a half up, But the news
coming down in the last fifteen totwenty or so, Dick that Jonathan Diaz,

(04:44):
who was last seen with the Angelorganization last year, was let go
signed as a free agent in twentytwenty four. Killing it in Tacoma eleven
starts for the Rain here seven toone with a two nine eightyra but no
disrespect to Jonathan Diaz, but nobodywants to see him pitch. They want
to see Brian Wu pitch. AndBrian Wu apparently has been scratched from tonight's

(05:04):
game against the White Sox with noreason given yet by the ball club.
And obviously the first thing you thinkabout is, well, this is the
guy who, like last Friday, was pulled after sixty six pitches because he
had a setback during the week aheadof his last start. Came back and
threw eighty five pitches in his laststart, which was a season high for

(05:25):
him. But he's already had twoinjuries. He missed the first month of
the year with the elbow, andthen he had the four on problem,
and now he's apparently been scratched againtonight. So I think there's a little
bit of reason for concern right nowif you're a Marita baseball fan there,
Dick Well, I mean, youthink you talk about the deafcon meter,
What would the deaf con meter havebeen had they when they had like a

(05:46):
two percent chance to win that game, yester y, had they not won
that game. And then you loseGame one in shutout fashion to the worst
team in Major League Baseball at leastthe worst team in the American League,
and then you have that news atleast you got that win yesterday. I'm
just I'm gonna stay on the WUfront. I'm gonna say stay partially optimistic
and just say they are being souber careful with guy, this guy that

(06:11):
anything that he is just remotely off. They're gonna say, nope, you're
not gonna pitch. And he probablywas like, yeah, you know,
yeah, not feeling quite one hundredpercent, and they're like, yep,
we're pulling you. We got wegot to what a five and a half
game lead in the division. We'reeight games over five hundred. We're doing
fine. We can't afford to loseyou for four months. I'll jump in.
I do have an update from tAlble Park from Adam Jude Brian wu

(06:35):
is having an MRI on his armteam. That's not good. There's nothing
good about that. And again Imean, dick your point and look,
you want to be optimistic, that'sfine, and until there's a reason to
really lose it and freak out andyou know, run down I five half
naked, which I love doing that, by the way, After a couple
of Kickeelow vultures. H I getit. But the idea that we're still

(06:56):
sitting here on June the eleventh, and the season is a third of the
over and you're what a month anda half away from the deadline, and
you still have not been able toget Brian Wu consistently. Right, you
know, that's that's an issue,right. I mean, thank god,
you've got obviously a deep rotation onthe major league level. But we talked
about this over the offseason. Theydon't have the depth organizationally that they had

(07:19):
a year ago when they had guyslike Marco Gonzalez, and they had Hancock,
and they had guys like Chris Flexenyou know a while back, and
who was the kid from the Pirates, Tyler Anderson when he had that great
year for the Mariners. So we'llsee what Diaz does. Maybe Diaz ends
up being that kind of picture forthem, Maybe Kiko ends up being that
kind of picture for them. Butuh, look, you want to be
positive, that's fine, but there'sgot to be at least some small modicum

(07:42):
of concern because of the guy havingtoday and having two injuries already. You
know me, my monicums of concernmy levels concerned about the baseball team,
not I mean, Brian wu isa side thing. And this is this
is a team that that almost lostto the White Sox yesterday. And by
the way, I will know thatall eight runs including a squeeze, were
scored after Scott's service left the game. I'm just gonna throw that out.

(08:05):
Oh yeah, yes. By theway, Andrews, find somebody who hates
somebody the way decade I have onethe way Dick hates Kyle Seeger. There
you go. That's a great question. That's the question of the day,
right the what is a stronger hateyou for Kyle Seger, you for Scott's
service, or me for Jamal Adams? Which one would be? I think
you were just strength meter. Ithink you for Jamal Adams real just because

(08:28):
of just the type of person thatJamal Adams is that that he showed himself
to be. Right, So Iwill say that that's if Scott's service went
after somebody's wife, then he wouldbe in that category. I would he
would elevate to Adams level. Andin that sense. But let's face it,
this is this is supposed to beand it is the strength of your

(08:50):
ball club. I mean right now, it's like not even close, right
with the way the bullpen has beenbanged up a little bit, the offense
has been you know, if ifanything below average the entire season, if
not than that, that's charitable.By the way, this rotation is not.
It's clear cut the number one strengthof the team. And now we're
talking about you know, one ofyour guys who Steven Suza, was on

(09:11):
the air with us yesterday and sayshe thinks Brian wu may be the best
of the bunch of all of them. Yeah, right, And we never
thought that. We thought that Kirby, Bryce Miller, Logan Gilbert with the
electric stuff that those guys got.But the one point that I want to
make again is the point that Joeshe and me with Ian and I've talked
about this many times on this show. This is exactly why you cannot count

(09:33):
on anything past this season. Youcan't count on anything really outside of what
you have today, because pictures gethurt, right, Pitchers all around baseball
guys are blowing their elbows out,They're getting Tommy John surgery right and left.
You cannot count on anything but whatyou know you have now. But
what you think you have now isa dominant rotation, and to sit around

(09:54):
and just assume that these guys aregonna do this next year and the year
after that and the year after that. I mean, we already got one
guy banged up. What are theodds that what are the other four guys
has an injury? Probably pretty goodthat one of those four will deal with
some kind of injury. So youhave to strike while the iron is hot,
and right now it's white hot.It is white hot. You need

(10:16):
to ask the question, though,is if you're going to make a deal,
are you going to include Emerson Hancockin that deal now? Because if
you include Emerson Hancock in that dealand you don't have Brian Wu, then
all of a sudden, you havea massive hole in the team right now,
in the starting rotation. Well here'swhat gets me, all right,

(10:37):
And I want I want both ofyou guys to chime in on this,
because this is where I start tojust kind of lose my mind, like
live on radio starts a meltdown.Though, this is like the start of
the Tuesday, June eleventh meltdown.Okay, this is not the June tenth
or May fifteenth or April forty. This is the June eleventh meltdown. The
fact that we are sitting here andI said the same thing when the Mariners

(10:58):
had no choice but to trade MichaelPenna for Jesus Montero, Okay, and
that deal didn't really work out foreither side. Okay, kind of went
sideways for both teams. Pineda wasnever the guy the Yankees thought he was
going to be. Montero was,you know, a a freaking nutcase.
Okay, So that never whatever. But the fact that you have to sit
here and trade young pitching talent likethat to get the bats you're looking for

(11:22):
drives me nuts because I would loveto be able to hang on to an
Emerson Hancock in case somebody gets hurt, right, But I might not be
able to do that because I'm desperatefor offense. And so instead of trading
Emerson Hancock, how about you hangon to a kid like that and go
spend some goddarn money in free agency? When the free agency list, like

(11:45):
it was two years ago and threeyears ago, looked to be about as
good a crop as we've seen inmaybe a decade. Yet they ignore all
that and now to get the offenseyou're looking for. They have to trade
stars like Handcock, maybe like aBrian Woum, maybe like a Bryce mi
Other or whatever. That stuff justdrives me freaking insane. So you're right,

(12:07):
they may have no choice but todo something like that, and maybe
they may have no choice but tohang on to him Dick, depending on
Brian Woo's injury. Well, andto your credit, and two years ago
you wanted them. It was theMarcus Simeon d free agency class, and
you know, and looking back onit, I was not there yet because
I didn't think the Mariners were thereyet. I did not think the Mariners

(12:28):
were quote unquote there as a squadto really spend a ton of money on
until this offseason, which is oneof the reasons I've kind of turned from
such positive to such a little morenegative in this year because I didn't think
that they did what they could havedone this offseason. Because this was the
year going in, I was like, Okay, everything's read like the table

(12:50):
is set, man, this isthe time. I just didn't think twenty
twenty, after the twenty twenty oneseason was the time. Now, in
hindsight, maybe you were right aboutthat, and wouldn't it be great,
gun if you would have had MarcusSimeon in this roster? Listen, that
would be different. How great wouldit be to have Marcus Simeon in year
three of his deal? Right now? Okay, so year one, you
know he's he plays well, butyou don't feel the impact because the team

(13:15):
is not good enough around him.But then by year two and year three,
when the team is good enough aroundhim, you're ready to roll.
So, man, I mean,Dick, unless and Andrews you can chime
in here two unless you feel likeyou are, you know, years away,
you know, three four years awayfrom being able to compete. You
know, I guess I could seethat kind of approach. But my god,

(13:35):
these guys knew what they had intheir rotation three years ago. They
knew they had Greatness and Castillo andKirby and Logan Gilbert. They knew they
had, you know, some youngup and coming stars, and they weren't
prepared for it. So let's hopethe guys that are here now turn it
around, and let's all go tobed tonight and pray to whatever God we
pray to Andrews that Brian Wo wasgonna be over well, and I was

(13:56):
exactly where Dick is now last year. I think this the free agency market,
after the year you went to theplayoffs in twenty twenty two was the
time to kind of build on that, and they kind of fluffed their lines
there with I guess get trading forTaskar Hernandez was okay. He turned out
all right, but then you didn'teven give him the qualifying offer after this
year. So who's also raking inla by the way, just one of

(14:16):
their best players in a team ofyear. You're like Cooper Hummel. You
weren't a fan of Cooper home Stallathat boy, no, But it's just
I there, you're right, softy, because there was such a deeper class
in those two years where even ifyou didn't feel like it was the perfect
time to spend, that's how youincrease your team for years to come when

(14:39):
there isn't such a deep class likethis past year or in the coming years.
I just think that there's two extremesof how you build baseball teams,
and the marriage are at one extreme. Yeah. The other extreme is like
the Miami Marlins of the past fewyears, where it's just like we're gonna
go all in for like two yearsand hope we win a World Series and
they did right, right, andthen they suck for like a decade.
Went to him, Actually that's right, Yeah, and then they suck for

(15:01):
a decade. And then there's theMariners are on the complete opposite end of
the spectrum with the fifty four percent, right, like, we just want
to be competitive for a decade andhope we stumble into a World Series And
there's got to be room in themiddle somewhere, right, There has got
to be room in the middle forcompeting for a long period of time but

(15:24):
then being able when the when theiron's hot to strike and it doesn't kill
you long term where you don't haveto tear down like the Marlins. Yeah.
Well look, I'm no doctor.Okay, don't even play one on
radio or TV. But I thinkthat if if Brian Wu was banged up,
there's gonna be questions about the waythey brought him back because the last

(15:46):
starts. You know, I camehome after the show and I saw he
was yanked at sixty six, andyour first reaction is, well, that's
just ridiculous. They're just complete. Why don't you just put pampers on the
guy for God's sake, And thenit turns out that he had some kind
of a setback in preparation for thestart, which was just kind of I
remember thinking, that's kind of weird, Like if he had a setback,
why is he out there anyway?Like, why not just rest him,

(16:07):
give him a skip, and youknow, bring somebody else up. And
then he comes out and he throwswhat I say, eighty five pitches,
which was a season high in hislast start. So is there gonna be
some room, potentially, guys forcriticism about the way they handled this guy.
Did they bring him back too early? Should he have been out there
anyway two starts to go? Didthey press him too much on his last
start? If he's banged up andhas elbow injuries or forearm problems whatever.

(16:32):
I mean, Guys, I thinkall that stuff's on the table. I
think it's just it's hard. Ihate his hard. Agree. I hate
to criticize. As much as Ilike to criticize Scott Service, I would
hate to criticize him. I thoughtyou to day it might like to criticize
period like that. I mean, how to deal with pictures because you're getting
information from him, you're getting frominformation from the trainers. There is possibility

(16:53):
where you can be so conservative itactually is a detriment and maybe being more
aggressive is actually the best. Soit's that's tough because every one of the
guys is different. So I don'tknow if was mismanagement, malpractice, that's
that well, that's not right exactly. I mean, let's just wait and
see. You know, there's certainlya possible that they may come out and

(17:14):
say we pushed this too much.I mean I doubt they would say that,
but there might be people internally thatwould say that. But for now,
Brian Wu is not going to starttonight. Jonathan Diaz again, who
was signed as a free agent awayfrom the Angels in twenty twenty four eleven,
starts into COMBA two nine to eightERA against the White Sox tonight,
So we'll see. But hey, great win last night. I mean that
was as improbable as it comes. You look at your little win probability thing

(17:37):
there, and you tell me wherethey were when they were down four nothing.
Luke Raley with the bunt, Thebunt of the year by Luke Rayley
cow Raley with a bomb. Everythingwas clicking there in the late innings for
them last night. So you know, I kind of think that cal Rawley
is starting to turn into the faceof the franchise. I don't know what
you guys think. Maybe it's apitcher, and maybe it's still Julio Rodriguez.
But when I think of the guythat epitomizes marin Er baseball right now

(18:00):
more than anybody. And that meansthe relationship with the fans, the way
he is looked at in the clubhouse, cal Raley to me, I think,
guys, right now, is theface of this baseball team. Well,
he's certainly the leader. Luke Raileysaid that last night in the postgame,
right he said, Cal is ourguy. Cayl is the guy who
we rally around. And by theway, it was a ninety six point

(18:21):
eight percent chance for the Chicago WhiteSox. Your win probability like meter is
like so high at that point,I know. I mean, we had
a three percent chance of winning thatbaseball game last night. We ended up
we ended up winning, And Ijust I think of the alternate universe of
what we're talking about for the lastfifteen minutes, had they lost that game
for nothing, right, I mean, it would be lost to Chicago and

(18:42):
Brian. I mean, it wouldbe disaster fall off a cliff time,
even though it's just one baseball game. But you know, I tell you
what, I should have jumped onthe I should have jumped on the over
six and a half on this onetoday because I didn't think they were given
a lot of respect to the Marineroffense. But now you've got rookie against
rookie going and the overnunder was sixand a half with Brian Wuke. Sometimes

(19:03):
when you got two guys that nobody'sseen before, it's time early offense.
Man, you got Drew Thorpe goingtonight. He was the guy that got
into Padres deal a year ago againstJonathan Diaz. So if you had your
hopes set, I'm watching Brian whothey've been dashed. Jonathan Diaz will start
tonight for the MS. All right, PJ Carlismo, Man, there's a
lot of smoke out there, dickabout expansion to Seattle. Feels like everybody

(19:25):
and anybody is now chatting about it. NBA Finals. PJ Carlismo will join
us next on ninety three to threekJ RFM Live from the R and R
Foundation specialist broadcast studio. Now backto Softie and Dick on your home for
the Huskies and the CREC in SportsRadio ninety three point three kJ R FM.

(19:49):
All right back here at the VirginiaMason Athletics Center. ZAFTI, Dick
Anders anders in for Jackson Anders.Uh do a little fun with audio coming
up a little uh? You makethe call sure tonight as well. Sounds
good. Lots going on here fromthe vMac. But joining us right now
on the radio station. Our friendalways willing to say yes when others say

(20:11):
no. It's our pal, PJ. Carlismo coach. How are you excellent,
gentlemen? How you guys doings? We're good man. Lots of stuff
to talk about with the NBA Finals, but why don't you just first of
all give us your your PJ meter. You were on the air with Chuck
and Buck I think about a monthago and talked about the smoke out there
the return of Sonic basketball. Eversince then, Adam Silver has mentioned the

(20:34):
name Seattle Vegas, Mexico City.Should we start to maybe get in position
you think for maybe an announcement verysoon. I wish you know, I
don't know. I was with Adamthe other night that when they gave Rudy
tom Janovich the Chuck Daily Awards forthis year, talk to him briefly.

(20:56):
It's amazing because for so many yearsthat they would not acknowledge the expansion.
It didn't exist, And all ofa sudden, the last I'm saying year,
I don't know how long it's been, but for a while now,
Adams said repeatedly, as soon aswe get done with the media rights deal,
the next thing on the agenda isexpansion. And he's, you know,

(21:18):
named other cities at times. Youjust mentioned Mexico City. He talks
somewhere in Canada. I'm not surewhere. I guess I would assume Vancouver,
but I'm not sure. Maybe Montreal, I don't know the heck.
But he always includes Seattle and LasVegas. And every single person I've talked
to with the league office said there'syou know, hey, there's no question

(21:41):
Seattle's going to be one at oneof the teams. Now, again,
that's as unofficial as you can get, but nobody has ever varied from that
from the beginning. What I don'tknow is the timetable. I thought the
media deal seemed like it was closeabout to get done. Everybody's acting like
it's a done deal, but obviouslythere's still a couple of things to be

(22:03):
worked out. But I'm just waitinghere. Once they say, hey,
the media packages in place here isgoing to be carrying the games in the
future, I'm waiting for Adam tosay this is when I'm going to start,
or when I'm going to bring itup to the thirty owners. Hey,
let's talk about expansion. Here's themoney we have from the new deal.
How much are we going to chargethe you know, the two teams,

(22:25):
assuming it's going to be two tocome in, and let's go forward
with the screening process. But youknow, I would hate to think it's
going to take a long time becauseit seems like we've been waiting for so
long. I mean, I'm probablythe only one that's enjoyed my time in
Seattle because families lived in Seattle's sinceseven eight season, and everybody else has

(22:47):
been just waiting for to get theteam back. But I just I mean,
to me, it can't look anymore positive. But I have no
clue whatsoever, And that's what scaresme a little bit about whatever the timetable's
going to be. I know, they got to have some kind of vetting
process and you know, go throughsome kind of you know, deciding a

(23:11):
who who the ownership is going tobe, and then how we're going to
go about it. But they've doneit before. A lot of the people
are still the same and in ourcase, unlike even Vegas, Come on,
what are we talking about. We'vesupported the league so well for so
long and all I've ever heard sincethe date the team left is how did
we do that? With a mistake? We could have should have never let

(23:33):
that happen. So, I mean, if there's going to be a problem
with us with our application, thatwould be shocking to not just me,
but shocking to everybody. Well,PJ, I don't think anybody would be
shocked if they found out that, you know, they went on vacation for
a week and found out Boston wasup to nothing. I think there'd be
a little bit of surprise over howdominant Boston has been the entire first game

(23:57):
and then pulling away in the secondhalf Game number two. What's been the
major cause in your mind? Andis it fixable for Dallas in three and
four to potentially tie this thing up? Well, I mean the obvious first
thing is their home. They're backhome, and that's significant. But they're
in a virtual must win. Imean, you know, people never say

(24:18):
you know, you can't. It'sgoing to happen at some point. But
I think the numbers one fifty fourmight even be three fifty four. It's
some ridiculous number of times teams havebeen down three and three to zero and
never come back. It's never happenedin the history of the NBA. I
happen to be a diehard Yankee slashMariner fan for my whole life, and

(24:41):
unfortunately the Yankees for the first onesfor it to happen to and in Major
League Baseball against the Red Sox,and it's going to happen at some point.
You think they you would think theyneed to win this game and they
can relax a little bit right now. They just they weren't ready. For
whatever reason, they were not ready. I don't think it wasn't being prepared.

(25:02):
J Kid did not use it asan excuse, but he said it
reminded him an awful lot of theirfirst game in the Clipper series, which
was the first game in the playoffsthis year for them, and they just
didn't play like they kind of youknow, I don't want to say deer
in the headlights, but that kindof thing. I mean, they were
so off their game that they werenever in the game. And he hoped
they were going to play a lotbetter in game two on Sunday. They

(25:26):
did defend a lot better in Gametwo on Sunday, they got a couple
more people to play well. PJ. Washington had another good game, although
he didn't shoot the three well, and Daniel Gafford in the second half played
very well. And then really that'swhat it was. The first game,
it felt like it was like sevenguys against two guys or one and a
half guys. It was a lotbetter on Sunday, particularly their defense.

(25:49):
They did a good job. Theypressured Boston's threes much better. They ran
them off the line a lot. They didn't like him let them get as
many threes as they would like toget. And Boston, I'm sure JK
to be the first one to tellyou Boston missed some shots they normally make.
I mean, they just live onthat three point line and they missed

(26:10):
more than their share. But Dallashas done the same thing for two games.
They've had some really good looks. They're just not putting the ball in
the basket. The only guy who'sshooting even a decent three point percentage is
Luca Kyrie has really struggled from three. PJ Washington I talked about he's played
so well when he puts the ballon the floor, he gets to the
rim. He's done a lot ofgood things. He's been active on the

(26:33):
class, but I think he's wonfor eight from three. And again we're
talking guys that shot thirty seven thirtyeight percent in the regular season are just
not shooting the ball well. Hopefullyand selfishly for our k we don't want
to sweep. We want a goodseries. I thought coming in it was
going to be a very good series. I can't remember the last time we
talked, but from our games, the coverage we had of Dallas, particularly

(26:57):
against the Clippers in the first roundand then in the Western Conference finals,
I said, this is going tobe you know, this potential is going
to be a good series. Ithasn't been. And and Boston looks so
much the better team so far. They've played better defensively, they have way
more guys participating, they make theirfree throws they've taken. You know,

(27:18):
some of the stats are very close, but almost every single one it's Boston
by some In some cases, it'sa narrow more a few more offensive rebounds,
a few less turnovers, a fewmore points off those turnovers, significantly
better free throw shooting, and Boston'sa team that doesn't commit a lot of
files. So it's a bad combination. Dallas is sixteen of the sixteen teams

(27:41):
in the playoffs. They're sixteenth fromthe free throw line. They were twenty
seven out of thirty in the regularseason, and it really hurt them in
Game two. That's that alone wouldhave really hurt them. But I mean
it's you know, it's not anaccident. At this point, they're dead
last in the playoffs and they're playinga team that doesn't file, that led
the league in the fleet in theregular season and in the playoffs against you

(28:03):
know, fewest foules committed. Everybody'ssaying Boston's getting more, you know,
more free throws than everybody they playagainst. Yeah, but they've done it
all year. They and the Lakersjust don't follow you the way they defend.
That's a big part of their philosophyand they won't give you a LAYMP,
but if the choice is to,you know, pressure your shot or
follow you, they won't follow you. So they enjoy a big advantage on
the free throw line. So they'vemade it look like it's really going to

(28:26):
be difficult for them to lose. But for sure, the atmosphere in Boston
was great. The place is rockand they obviously want to hang that eighteenth
banner. I mean they get they'reliterally impatient because they have an on win
in a few years. And ourhope, speaking for ESPN Radio at ABC,

(28:47):
is we want a good game.We want Dallas to play the way
they played in those first three roundsof the playoffs where they beat fifty win
teams. But the difference, youknow, everybody say, hey, they
have a chance to be I thinkonly a second team that's beat three four
different teams with fifty plus wins.Well, Boston's not fifty plus or sixty
four. They far and away thebest team in the league all year,

(29:10):
and they're looking like it in thefirst two games. PJ. Carlosmo,
PJ, before you go, wegot about a minute left here before we
have to get to a break.I think both of us are curious to
get your thoughts on everything surrounding KaitlanClark the decision to leave her off the
USA basketball roster. I flip onESPN, Fox, and all I hear
is talk about Caitlin Clark. It'sincredible how much this gal is dominating the

(29:36):
news. What'd you make of thatdecision by USA Basketball. I was surprised,
you know, obviously, I havenothing to say about it. I
just think that when you have atwelve person roster and you got some players
that are you know, have beenthere before, and you're talking. I
hate to say it, but whenyou put together an Olympic roster, sometimes
you say, we just need acouple of people that are gonna be happy

(30:00):
to be here. If we needhim in an emergency, great, but
let's be let's be honest. Onlyeight or nine of them are going to
play. And the women have beeneven more dominant than the men. What
she has meant to the WNBA andwomen's basketball, women's athletics in just so
far is incredible, and you wouldthink somehow we can find the slots minutes

(30:21):
go. And it's not like youcan't play basketball. She's a pretty good
basketball player too, so you wouldhave thought they would have found a way
to again even increase the spotlight thatthey will enjoy in Paris. But you
will never convince me it's gonna be. There will be as much coverage as
there would have been if Caplin wason the team, no question, PJ.

(30:41):
Great stuff. Enjoy the rest ofthe finals and we'll bug you soon.
Man appreciate it, buddy, Thankscoach, all right, ticking softy.
Great being with you guys, Thankyou you bet man. Scott Servis
has spoken Dick the Brian wu situation. He's been scratched from tonight's game.
What's going on? We're from theSkipper in Fun Without It next on ninety
three three kJ r f M.It's now time for something in Dick's Fun

(31:08):
with Audio. Jimmy g pawn starredJimmy mister daroppolo. Now let's have some
fun with audio, all right,Tyler Lockett, Uh, that's no E.
By the way, he'll join usin a matter of minutes. Here.
See our practice about to get wrappingup here at the vMac. But
it's time for a little fun withaudio slash. Hey did you hear that?
Hey, Dick, did you happyto hear that. What's that,

(31:32):
Dick? We start with Scott Servis, the Mariner Skipper, talking moments ago
at t Mobile Park about the situationwith Brian Wu, who was scratched from
tonight's game against the White Sox.Goo updates a little bit. Obviously,
we scratched Brian Wu from tonight's startthe town. You know, similar issue
we had. You know, Ithink it was a couple of starts ago
and you know get through his HiJoe great to throw a full ten between

(31:55):
stars came in yesterday and you know, we had some concerns, so we
start talking about where do we goif we wasn't able to post then you
know, last night we decided togive him a blow. It's gip to
start. So that's why Diaz willspots start first tonight, uh and get
him on the roster. It's goodto make a couple of couple moves there.

(32:16):
So we've added you know, ofcourse Diaz is on and also Bisardo
will come in today and add toour roster. So we you know,
Kirbiye Snead and Matt Bowman had todesignate those guys and we're kind of in
a just a murky waters right now, trying to get through this thing this

(32:37):
weekend, so along with you know, not having fool availability of Andre's mood
neils right now. So these thingshappened throughout the course of the season,
and this is where you really, you know, lean on your depth.
That's why you have other guys inthe minor leagues and different guys you can
take on different roles here in ourbullpen, and that's where we're at right
now. So it's unfortunate. Youknow, where does this go with Brian

(33:01):
Bryan is We'll just have to waitand see he's get some test done.
Doctors look at it, hoping tostay away from an il stit. But
we'll know more here the next dayor so. So I don't know when
he's gonna get injected back into therotation. I have no timeline anything like
that. I'm just trying to putit together and figure out a way to
win the ball game tonight. Soany questions, I just cut it off

(33:22):
right there. The audio is alittle wonky for me, I just when
you're a mile away, I don'tknow. It's it's a me thing,
Dick, very much, a youthing, fully admit it. But look,
I mean, you know the factthe manager's even talking about the possibility
of an IL stint for the secondtime this year. I don't know.
I mean, I'm a very impatientguy when it comes to this stuff,

(33:44):
and all we can do right nowis just wait and see what the MRI
says. Yeah, I mean tome, I'm just reading into his words.
Sounds more precautionary than it does likepotentially long, long, long term.
I mean, yeah, it couldbe ten day I l but you
know, I guess I would besurprised if we get the MRI back and

(34:07):
he's got like a serious injury that'sgoing to sideline him for months. But
let's hope, let's hope that's notthe case. Yeah, yeah, all
right, Hey, Dick, didyou happen? What's that? Dick?
We go back to the NBA Arena. On the set for NBC Sports Boston.
During their NBA Finals coverage, AdamSilver, commissioner of the NBA,
was asked about the timeline for expansion. It's not preordained that we'll expand I've

(34:30):
said it before. I got tolook at thevolution potentially of the talent.
But there's so much great basketball we'veplayed around the world. I don't think
there's any doubt that over time thisleague can sustain two more teams lots of
interested markets. So once we finishour media deals, we'll we'll turn our
attention to that. I can't yougive us a sneak peak this what will
be the like? Okay, isthese these, these, these and these

(34:52):
and d's and I've got to pickup the tea leaves. Well, there's
been some discussion about going back toSeattle. Pfully, that's Vegas, no
doubt, is very interested in theteam Mexico City one day, but there's
lots of other US cities and Canadiancities. Frankly, they've reached out to
us to tell I was asking themthe questions, I have no idea these

(35:15):
and these and these and these andthese give me two of those. Uh
you know, it kind of feltlike I did see the video. Maybe
you guys did. I was doingthe Vegas Seattle thing with kind of a
wink and a smile. Yes,Seattle, but interested Mexico City maybe down
the road. I gotta be honestwith you, just the the negative skeptical

(35:36):
bastard that I am. I amthat there's like one percent of my body.
Guys, that is preparing my reactionif they announced Vegas and Vancouver or
Vegas in Mexico City, instead ofseeing there is zero percent of my body.
If there, if there was anumber less than zero, that part
of my body, it actually doesexist. It's like negative one, two

(35:59):
three. I don't think there's anegative one part of my body. There's
no negative percentage. I am preparingAndrews, how about you? Is there
any part of you as a fanthat's preparing for them to f us and
that, you know what a veryvery very very small But I'm pretty confident
it can happen. But yeah,I am too, Yeah, I am
too. He has said nothing.I mean, he has been straightforward with

(36:21):
Seattle for years. He has toldus exactly what he's gonna do. He's
gonna told us exactly when he wasgoing to do it, and I expect
him to follow through since he's alreadygotten ninety nine percent of the way down
the road. I am fully expectingus to get the team back. I
am preparing to get the team back. I am also preparing to riot outside
the NBA offices. Have you everknow what happened? All right? Hey,

(36:42):
Dick, did you happen here? What's that? Dick? All right?
What do you think Andrews three fourfive? Yeah, yeah's three and
four. That's two three. Here'swhat last night's walk off Homer by cow
he sounded like on the Chicago WhiteSox Radio network. They two oh count
swing right, the Mariners will walkit off with a grand slam in the

(37:08):
bottom of the nine. Well,I told you I had some horror stories
from this place. It looks likewe're gonna have to add another one machine
they have they have on their studioshow. That's great. They gotta put
that guy on the actual broadcast.Yes, John Schiffern has been pretty good

(37:30):
this year. It's been a really, really bad bad season for them park
the Kaufman Stadium for the White Sox. For them, it could be yeah,
because I was gonna say, goask Rondo about calling the two thousand
and eight Huskies. It's gotta beequivalent of what this guy's going through right
now. Let's get one more.Dave Simms though, our buddy calling last

(37:52):
night's big moment, but forgot howmany people were on base. Here's what
the see. I feel like thoseare minor details because either way they win

(38:16):
the games over in Dave Simmons ismind, they win the game, And
in my mind, they win thegame whether it's seven to four or eight
to four. I mean, itwould have been worse if he would have
said, and we are tough,But that would have been a much bigger
disaster. But I don't know.I mean, you give the guy a
break. He's been phenomenal. Ilove Dame. I think he's I've told

(38:36):
you before. I think he's evenbetter football guy than he is a baseball
guy. But is he's starting tokind of get into that. I'm not
saying he's Dave knee House, andnobody will ever be Dave knee House,
but is he getting close where whenhe messes up like that, it's more
cute than critical, you know I'mtalking about Oh yeah, But I don't
know. Are you alluding to hisage because I don't think that's that at
all. No, Okay, he'sin his sixties. Yeah, when Dave

(38:58):
knee House messed up, it waslike, oh, that's just and Dave
right right, But David Dave Simms, is Dave Simms reached that level where
when he messes up, is hisdate being Dade. I think Dave Simms
is very well respected around here.I'm very well liked. I mean,
I don't know if we can puthim in the knee house category. And
I think James, I think Dave. Yeah, I think Dave Simms would
be misunderstanding what I'm starting to sayto you. By the way, he's

(39:22):
seventy one years old by okay,so I'm still a whipper snap. I'm
saying that there are that there arebroadcasters out there that when they mess up,
they get hammered by people. Allright, Yeah, Yeah, Sims
now in that category where he canmess up and people just kind of wave
it off. Yeah. I thinkI think you're right about that. Like
John Sterling is another one, likelater in his career would be like,
oh, it's just John Sterling, like when he thought a lazy fly ball

(39:43):
was crushed he knows. Yeah,Yeah, I'm with you. I'm glad
we got that cleared. Three fiftysix. Uh, Tyler Locket's gonna join
us. We're gonna hear from MikeMcDonald as well. Uh, coming up
on ninety three three KJRFM
