Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, it's also day one today for you, dubbed
Dick and the Big Ten. Patchen Chun was on with
us in the first hour, but joining us right now on.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
The radio show.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
I believe they will be the very first Washington team
to play a game in the Big Ten as a
Big Ten team. The women's soccer team will technically take
on USC who's now a Big Ten team, in September
on the twelfth, but then things get real when they
travel to Maryland to take on the Terrapins in a
conference game on September nineteenth. The Colt Vandyke, the women's

(00:31):
soccer coach over UDUB, is with us right now on
the radio show.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Coach Van Dyke, how are you.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
I'm great, Thanks for having me.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Well, we appreciate you doing this. How weird is this
for you, guys?

Speaker 1 (00:44):
I mean, you're a West Coast person with the West
Coast team and a West Coast school and West Coast players,
and now you're going to be recruiting all over the country,
all over the nation, playing teams from coast to coast.
Tell us about how kind of odd this whole transition
has been for you guys so far.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
I think you know the I think everyone was a
bit uh, you know, bittersweet leaving the PAC twelve. And
then you know, once the dust settles on that, you
you become super excited about, you know, all the newness.
I think, you know, we're we're a team pretty much
compiled of all West Coast players outside of our our

(01:23):
two international students, and so I think it's exciting because
it's it's actually expanded our own recruiting base because now
we get the opportunity to play in all these new
places and see different parts of the country, compete against
some of the top talent and top schools, while also
bringing what we bring and what this you know institution,

(01:45):
University of Washington brings and the brand that comes with
it and our style. So we're equally excited about you know,
bringing us and showcasing what we have across the country
and and yeah, kind of focusing on you know that
that component really but on that on with that note,
our West Coast they're also excited about the new, new

(02:06):
new places.

Speaker 4 (02:08):
Tell us a little bit about the the history of
you at U dub women's soccer, because maybe a lot
of people listening aren't really familiar with what you guys
have accomplished in the past.

Speaker 3 (02:18):
Yeah, I mean I think there, you know, there's a
tremendous amount of history. I think, you know, whether it's
from an international national team standpoint, or whether it's you know,
in the NWSL or just playing playing professionally in many
different countries, we've had a lot of success. I mean,
obviously Hope Solo uh Tina from pong Ellerton, some tremendous

(02:41):
players that have played at the highest level have come
come from the University of Washington. We've done well in
the tournament, you know, we recently have Sweet sixteen run.
We've been to the Elee eight a few times, and
so I think as we're building here and you know,
under the new staff, we're excited about getting back there
and so a very exciting group to watch. I think

(03:08):
our fan base, our fan base just enjoys our attacking style.
So we're looking forward to the new stand I think
it's just you know, bringing our brand and our style
all across the country is really going to I think
help us continue to recruit the top talent because over
the last three years we've done, you know, a really

(03:28):
good job finding the right fit for the type of
player that's going to help us be successful. So we're
kind of building into that right now, and our players
are getting a little bit older. So it's an exciting
time if you're a new a new fan, or you know,
if you want to come out and support us, because
at the future, I think it's pretty bright.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
Well, Nicole Vandyke UW women's soccer coach with us on
the air in that first home match exhibition. Uh, I
believe next Friday against British Columbia. Get things going against
Wyoming on the fifteenth.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
Over at U up with the Big.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
Ten schedule starts against USC in September, and you got
the road trip to Maryland and then Rutgers and then
one more later against Iowa Nebraska. Nicole, when you take
road trips like that, will you stay on the East
coast come back home? What's your plan for those road trips?

Speaker 5 (04:17):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (04:17):
I think you know, the travel component has been, you know,
one of the big talking points for a lot of people.
And when you look at our schedule, it's very similar
to what we did in the Pac twelve and so
we actually feel that it's an advantage to us because
here we're used to taking five day road trips because again,
we played Thursday and Sunday, just with how the soccer

(04:41):
schedule works. So you know, when we really when we
travel to the East, we're maybe spending one extra day.
But I think we're you know, we're well versed in
how we travel and the I think we've actually done
even more research now here just with the resources that
we have how to travel that much, we're efficiently how

(05:01):
to recover, whether it's time change and all those things
that come with it. So but you know, again it's
not too much different. I think in the Big Ten
they'll probably have to adjust a little bit more to
that than we do because their trips weren't as long.
They might be home on the Thursday and travel on
the Sunday. So I think there's you know, there's adjustments

(05:24):
for us as far as maybe in a couple hours
on the trip, but there's also adjustments for everyone across
the conference, which I think brings out, you know, it's
not a one size fits all for everybody.

Speaker 4 (05:36):
Talk about the competition and what it's like coming into
the Big Ten compared to what you've seen the last
few years in the Pac twelve.

Speaker 3 (05:43):
Yeah, I think the competition, you know, the Big Ten
has had had a lot of success, especially last season,
with a significant amount of teams making it into the tournament,
and so I think that breeds itself. Whereas the PAC twelve.
You know, in any given year there were teams. There
were times where nine out of the twelve teams from

(06:05):
the PAC twelve we're making the tournament, and so over
the last couple of years that's maybe gone down to
five or six. And then when you think about what
we bring to the Big Ten as far as the
teams and the competition, it's it arguably the top conference
in the country for women's soccer. So to be a

(06:27):
part of that, to compete with that, to recruit those players,
I think it just continues to raise the standard of
where we want to be. And ultimately we know here
here at Washington we want to compete for championships. So
we're going to be facing I think across the schedule
i'd say about ten ten teams in the top fifty,

(06:47):
so a significant challenge. However, I think we're peaking at
the right time and we're building at the right time
to face that competition. So we're excited to get started
and to compete again against him with the top talent.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
September twelfth, six thirty pm, so Thursday night, the first
official Big Ten Conference matchup featuring a Husky team as
the Dogs take on USC, which is also in the
Big Ten. Two x PAC twelve teams will kick off
Big Ten play in Seattle on the Big Ten Network
on September the twelfth, on Thursday at six thirty the.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
Cole great stuff.

Speaker 1 (07:25):
Good luck to you guys this year, and congrats on
being the first team to get this thing going for
you dub Man.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
Thanks coaching.

Speaker 3 (07:32):
Yeah, well we'll try to get this party started off
the right way.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
Thank you all for having us you bet.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
Nicole Van Dyke, the head coach at Women's Soccer over
at you dub The first team that will play a
Big ten game with you dub is the women's soccer team,
and again that will be on September the twelfth.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
We've got a break.

Speaker 1 (07:47):
Scott Servis has some updates justin Hollander as well. There's
a lot going on with the Mariners that you're gonna
want to hear next on ninety three three KJRFM or.

Speaker 6 (07:56):
Nuts up coverage Joe Seahawks training camp continues from the
Virginia You Mason Athletics Center, brought to you by Northwest
Handling Systems and the twenty twenty four Boeing Classic gauga's fifth.

Speaker 7 (08:07):
Through the eleven.

Speaker 6 (08:08):
Now beckt to Sothian Dick Gon Sports Radio ninety three
point three kjr FM. It's time now for the Ballpark
Creek Forard, brought to you by Deer Services AC blowing
hot air. Don't fear gold, dude, Deer Services Dear Services
dot Net. The Ballpark Creek Forard on Sports Radio ninety

(08:28):
three point three kjr FM.

Speaker 2 (08:32):
All right, by the way, you need to correct something
for the record.

Speaker 1 (08:34):
It's been eating at me for the last half an
hour or so, you do, Legan, Tomlinson's not thirty one,
he's thirty two years.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
Old, So it's it really a big deal, huge for me.

Speaker 1 (08:42):
I aim to be factual. I don't know about you
and knucklehead. I strive to be factual on this radio show.
Hey Jackson, who's the next coach of the US men's national.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
Team going to be?

Speaker 1 (08:52):
After getting spanked by the Moroccans for nothing today?

Speaker 2 (08:55):
It's a good question.

Speaker 8 (08:56):
I think it's gonna be Patrick Vieira, who's a former
coach of New York City FC played a long time
with Arsenal.

Speaker 2 (09:04):
Right now, right now, it's one.

Speaker 8 (09:06):
Of their backup people who like, it's not even it's
not even an assistant because the main assistant left to
be the head coach in Nashville.

Speaker 1 (09:13):
So we are so we are so lame that we
had an interim assistant coach coaching the men in the Olympics.

Speaker 8 (09:21):
Yep, not good, not good and.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
Really quick.

Speaker 8 (09:26):
I should say that if anybody who's like we lost
to Morocco, Morocco's really good. They finished fourth place in
the World Cup two years ago, very good club, and
we didn't even take our best team.

Speaker 7 (09:37):
So this was to be.

Speaker 2 (09:38):
Wow, why would they not take their best team?

Speaker 8 (09:41):
So the answer to that is, yeah, a lot of
players who are of the age eligibility twenty three and under. Uh,
they were just got done with the European tournaments and stuff,
so uh, they are not in the position to go
right back and play in the Olympics. And then moreover,
the Sounders didn't even let Jordan Morris because the US

(10:01):
was gonna require Jordan to go for like months, and
the Sounders didn't want to let Jordan go for months.

Speaker 1 (10:06):
We are just sad when it comes to this, this
international soccer thing.

Speaker 4 (10:10):
We are just a sad. It's obviously not a high.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
Priority totally, of course, thousand percent, not a high priority
at all.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
And you know what, until it becomes a high priority,
nothing's gonna change. Let's switch gears and talk about something
maybe a little more positive. The Mariners are scuffling a
little bit, but still in first place. They're three and
a half games out in the wild card, as are
the Astros. By the way, both teams tied for first
in the West. Houston this weekend is at home against

(10:37):
Tampa Texas and home against Boston and oh, by the way,
one quick note from the Rangers. They just put Max
Scherzer back on the IL with a shoulder injury, so
he's gonna be out for a while. How about Scott's service.
We're gonna hear from Mariner GM justin Hollander in a
minute on the injury front. And there's a few of
them of note. Scott's service. Mariners skipper in the dugout
before tonight's game of the Phillies got me home.

Speaker 7 (10:58):
Excited to get those guys out there.

Speaker 9 (10:59):
With addition of Brandy and JT certainly, Jimmy Garcia has
done great and J G. Shortwaise here today as well,
So we've.

Speaker 7 (11:08):
Added to the group a little bit.

Speaker 9 (11:10):
Pretty happy with how we played on the road trip,
even though the.

Speaker 7 (11:13):
Last game got away from us.

Speaker 9 (11:14):
Their next ra innings did a lot of really good
things offensively, which would have needed to get some traction
there and get it going.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
So to continue at home, obviously, the Phillies in town.

Speaker 7 (11:24):
The better teams in the game.

Speaker 9 (11:26):
You know, we'll have our hands full, but feel good
about whe're at. I'm looking forward to the series and
the whole Homesteads as the whole club is as well.

Speaker 7 (11:34):
So taking any.

Speaker 8 (11:35):
Questions, see energy, these new guys coming in and trade
they provided the clubhouse.

Speaker 7 (11:38):
What's that been like to have this infusion? Sorry too,
you guys coming in? Energy is great.

Speaker 9 (11:43):
I think the way I turn out add some spice.

Speaker 7 (11:47):
To our our team, and I think that's really important.
As you go through a season, you need you.

Speaker 9 (11:51):
Know, you need personality, need some characters once in a while,
and some guys do it a little bit differently, go
about their game a little bit differently, and that can be.

Speaker 7 (11:58):
A real positive. You know, as we've worked through a season, so.

Speaker 2 (12:01):
They bring a lot.

Speaker 7 (12:02):
So they bring a lot on the field, but they
do add in.

Speaker 9 (12:04):
The clubhouse, especially a guy like Justin Turner, and the
guy has won so much and Randy as well, but
in a ton of playoff runs with the Rays, and
those guys are a great resource for our other guys
to look at. There are different ways to go about
doing it to get the result you're searching for. So again,
I'm looking forward to the series, and it's ahead of
us here in the next fifty.

Speaker 7 (12:25):
Some games we have left.

Speaker 1 (12:27):
I'm glad you mentioned the spice there, because, as we
all know, power over the spice.

Speaker 2 (12:31):
Is power overall. If you saw a dude well done,
that's right, that's a good job. Well, you know what
we're talking about it.

Speaker 1 (12:37):
I wouldn't be surprised if Scott Servis is folding space
by Monday Jackson by the way, with the Spice in.

Speaker 2 (12:43):
Town, riding the worms.

Speaker 6 (12:46):
You know.

Speaker 1 (12:46):
Look, I mean obviously this team needed a little bit
of infusion of energy. You know, things were a little
kind of stale, I think over there and bringing Randy
a rose Arena over here, bringing Justin Turner, bringing Jimmy
and JT. Chaqua, to the Mariner Bolt and hopefully we'll
provide that. But I'm I'm again kind of more curious
to see about the effect these guys have on the
other guys in the in the clubhouse. I was playing

(13:09):
golf today with a guy that, well, I want to
tell you who he is, but I'll just kind of
give you ah. His name is Paul Mendez, and he's
arguing that the Randy Rose Arena is gonna have a
great impact on Julio.

Speaker 2 (13:18):
I'm telling you, this guy's gonna come in here and
he's gonna fire Julio up.

Speaker 1 (13:22):
And he might be right, because who's been the person
that's been complaining about not having a veteran presence for
Julio Rodriguez.

Speaker 2 (13:28):
You me.

Speaker 1 (13:29):
And now I'm not saying that you got you know,
Taoska Hernandez or you got Suarez veteran, but you got
an older guy that's been around the game that can
maybe help this guy out. And look, I think I
don't think these guys on their own is enough to
get this thing done this year. I think these guys,
plus the dudes that are here living up to their
end of the bargain for a month and a half

(13:52):
might be enough to get it done.

Speaker 4 (13:53):
Yeah, And I'm just I can't wait to see the
whole lineup back because I don't know how you can
judge these guys with a third of their line up out. Now,
you got Roblaze back today, third tonight, but you still
have Julio out, you still have JP out, So I
mean you still got guys that that are injured. And
once you get those guys back, I think you can
this This lineup linkedn's out a little bit, and I

(14:15):
do believe that they can be somewhere in that twentieth
range and runs scored once they get those guys back.
I don't think they can do it now, but once
they get those guys guys back, and we've said all along,
you give me the twentieth best offense in baseball for
a month stretch and into the playoffs with the number

(14:35):
one pitching staff, that's a little that's a team that
could win a playoff series.

Speaker 2 (14:39):
I don't think it's a team that can win multiple.

Speaker 4 (14:41):
Playoff series, but I think that's a team that can
make the playoffs and win a playoffs well.

Speaker 1 (14:44):
Ro Blesser, Rose Arena, Raleigh Turner, Josh Rojas Dylan Moore, Hanneger,
Rayley and Reves.

Speaker 7 (14:51):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (14:52):
Obviously there's still major holes in that, right, there's no
they're gonna.

Speaker 4 (14:56):
Plugged a little bit when JP and and who the
JP is more more more the JP of the last
two years and not the JP of this year.

Speaker 1 (15:03):
Well it's his second stint right on the injured list,
I believe this year.

Speaker 2 (15:07):
Wasn't he hurt earlier this season? JP Crapper was as well,
And so.

Speaker 1 (15:10):
He's been terrible, right, I mean, I'm not saying he's
not busting his ass, But like I said on that
one show, when I've just lost my mind, I mean,
how do I know? I mean, I just make these assumptions, right,
like people in our industry go on the air and
just say things like that, I'm sure he's busting his ass. Well,
how do we know if he's busting his ass? By
the way, that was not me because I'm on remote,
So don't blame me.

Speaker 2 (15:30):
That's faction's fault.

Speaker 1 (15:31):
But JP Crawford had an ops of six forty five
when he went down with the injury, all right, I
mean he was eight eighteen, he was six seventy five,
he was seven fifteen. He has been just a nightmare
at the plate this year for these guys, and what's
going to be different about him when he comes off
the il hopefully mentally, you know, I'm I'm I do

(15:54):
feel good about this assumption that they were working with
him to make changes to his swing before he got
banged up and hit the injured list. But yeah, I mean,
Julio Rodriguez coupled with Randy A. Rose Arena and Cal Raley,
if all three of those guys played to their potential
in the last two months of the year, that should
be enough to get this thing done. Because again, I
think the Astros have a pitching problem. When they gave

(16:16):
up what they gave up. Did you see what they
gave up for Kakuchi, By the way, it was like
a second and third prospect, like a top fifteen guy
for a dude that's got a four plus era.

Speaker 2 (16:25):
I mean, they are desperate for pitching.

Speaker 1 (16:28):
And this is why I think it's so frustrating for
me as a Maritter fan, because I could sit here
and say, well, it's August second, they're tied for first place.
If I would have told you that back in March,
you would have taken that. And I think the answer
is yes, I would have taken that, But you would
have taken that because of how low.

Speaker 2 (16:46):
The standards are here. Yeah, and the previous forty seven,
forty eight years.

Speaker 1 (16:50):
When cal Rawley hit that home run two years ago
against the A's, we lost our mind because of the
previous twenty three years that's or twenty two years. That's
why we lost our minds. So, I mean, this is
the team underachieving, yes or no?

Speaker 2 (17:04):
Right now?

Speaker 1 (17:05):
I think they are. Yes, I agree with that. I
think they are absolutely underachieving. But they got two months
to figure it out and play to the back of
their baseball card and get this thing done because.

Speaker 2 (17:14):
I believe that overall.

Speaker 1 (17:16):
From a roster perspective, from a historical perspective, I think
they have the best roster in the division. I really
believe that. When it comes to the pitching staff and
these hitters and the history of these hitters, I think
they have the best roster in the West.

Speaker 2 (17:29):
Yeah, they clearly underachieved in the last six weeks.

Speaker 4 (17:32):
They overachieved prior to that to get to that ten
and a half games up in the in the AL,
and the reality is they're probably someplace in the middle.
I mean that's probably where this team. Where this team
fits now. The question is what type of Phillies team
you see in right? I mean yeah, I mean the
Phillies are three and nine in their last twelve games.
They just got swept by New York, and you're gonna
get a pissed off Bryce Harper. Bryce Harper has not

(17:54):
gotten a hit in his last five games, and in
the last two games against the Yankees, a seven to
six law twelve and a six or five loss, so two.

Speaker 2 (18:02):
One run losses. He went zero for ten with four strikeouts.

Speaker 4 (18:06):
So this is gonna be a Bryce Harper that is
ticked off and ready to beat up on the Mariners.
And so hopefully he stays in his slide for another
three days.

Speaker 1 (18:14):
Yeah, I'm not really worried, honestly, Dick, and I get
your point about Bryce Harper, because the guy is a star.
I'm worried about this guy tonight going for the Phillies.
Is Tyler Phillips Camp. I mean, he's been marvelous. He's
coming off a complete game shutout of the Guardians, who
are really good. So you want to make some money
bet the under tonight in this game.

Speaker 2 (18:35):
But you just bet the under team Mobile every week.

Speaker 1 (18:37):
You pretty much every how about assistant? No, no, no, no,
he's the GM. He is not the assistant. He's the
GM because Jerry's the president of Baseball OPS. Justin Hollander
with a bunch of injury updates, including a big arm
of the bullpen.

Speaker 2 (18:49):
Check this out injury update.

Speaker 7 (18:51):
Matt rashly gonna be here tomorrow.

Speaker 5 (18:53):
He's just been the homestand with us obviously, you know
said the last couple of days.

Speaker 7 (18:58):
We're really excited about how that's.

Speaker 5 (18:59):
Progressing to come here, spend some time with Trent and
Woody and our training staff here and sort of begin
what is a long throwing program process for him. But
really excited to have Matt in town. Don Canzone obviously
started his rehab assignment last night.

Speaker 7 (19:14):
He'll rehab through the weekend. We'll reassess where he's at
on Monday. Don't want to push it.

Speaker 5 (19:19):
But there's a chance that he has activated some point
in this homestand which is great to head a schedule.
Felt good after last night, so we'll see how it
goes through the weekend, then reassessed JP. So Monday will
be two weeks post injury. I believe at that point,
we'll re x ra again and see where he's at.
The soonest we would begin any sort of progression is

(19:41):
August nineteenth. That would be four weeks. That's pretty aggressive,
but that would be the absolute soonest, It just depends
on what kind of healing receip over the next three
weeks or so. He's doing everything you can, and you'll
see him out here taking ground balls today with one hand,
just to stay active. But there's nothing really to do
with than a let to heal and reassess some of
the nineteenth with where he's at. But he'll do an

(20:01):
X ray again in two weeks and just see how
it's going. Let's see Julio, he started linear running yesterday.
He's really pushing through at a high rate right now,
given that it's a high ankle sprain and those can
be really tricky. Obviously, Julio is generally a fast healer
uh and is younger, faster, and stronger than almost anyone
in the world. So he's pushing it as much as

(20:22):
he can. I know he wants to get back here.
He's doing great so far. I don't really have a
timeline because it's a high ankle spray. 're just really tricky.
But we'll we'll keep progressing as fast as you know
his body can and we'll reassess when he's ready to
start playing baseball again. Santos, He got an MRI yesterday.
The m RI I actually looked really good. We did
an MRI on his his elbow, his shoulder, and his bicep.

Speaker 7 (20:45):
Structurally, that looks good. He still does not feel great,
so we're gonna go do some more tests.

Speaker 5 (20:50):
He's going to be an il that you we won't
want to have him out there if he doesn't feel
one hundred percent.

Speaker 7 (20:55):
He still feels a little uncomfortable for him. We just
need to do.

Speaker 5 (20:58):
More tests and until to determine where we're at, which
is not the right thing to do to have him
on active on the roster. I want to make sure
we get this completely knocked out, whatever it is, so.

Speaker 7 (21:07):
He'll be an il Alanko.

Speaker 5 (21:09):
He got an injection in his knee when we got
back here on Wednesday night.

Speaker 7 (21:14):
He's available. He's not the lineup today. He's available.

Speaker 5 (21:16):
Would anticipate him being in the lineup over the weekend
as possibly as soon as tomorrow. He feels better today,
he's more of a Scott decision to give him an
extra day and make sure we don't run him back
into the same spot he's in. But he does feel
better today and we anticipate him back in the starting
lineup this weekend.

Speaker 7 (21:32):
Roblay is in the lineup today.

Speaker 5 (21:33):
He feels much better and wouldn't anticipate any restrictions other
than maybe just making sure you don't go crazy and
do something to push it.

Speaker 7 (21:41):
But he feels good.

Speaker 5 (21:44):
Justin Turner was dealing with a knee contusion from sliding
in a second base. He's stuffing through it, feels like
he can play through it. So that's where we're at.
On Jut Julio. Can he do anything? Can he does
he paint cats? Can he swing at all? Or is
he jus Yeah, He's gonna start swinging, and they feel
like that's not the biggest issue will be the cutting,
just fast change of direction, that sort of thing, and

(22:07):
talking to our HP sapp again running straight forward, they're
less concerned about.

Speaker 2 (22:12):
It.

Speaker 5 (22:12):
Will be the sudden change of direction, the sort of
baseball instinct types of plays that are just going to
cause more of an issue because of the nature of
the high ankle spring.

Speaker 7 (22:22):
Any restrictions on Wu today, No restrictions.

Speaker 5 (22:25):
You know, he felt okay after the outing the other day.
In between start was a normal routine form, So I
wouldn't again anticipate one hundred and ten pitches or anything.
But we don't have any set guidelines on you know,
three or four ings or anything like that.

Speaker 7 (22:39):
We'll just monitor and see how he feels and go
from there.

Speaker 1 (22:41):
What's the over under on pitches for Brian Wood and
I thirty thirty in the first inning. I'm gonna put
the over under on pitches for Brian Wo at seventy
two and a half. I'll probably take the seventy two
and a half on Brian. You take the over Jackson,
where you go just number of pitches for Brian?

Speaker 2 (23:02):
Will the under? Okay?

Speaker 1 (23:03):
Do you know how many games this year Brian Wu
has pitched less than seventy two and a half. He
started eleven games, and in seven of them he's been
under that number.

Speaker 4 (23:13):
He probably said a pretty good line seven of them.
I think I think Scott might be hearing a little bit,
and I'm wondering if he'll let him go on next training?

Speaker 2 (23:20):
How about that?

Speaker 1 (23:21):
How about how about how about lett him come out
for the sixth how's that, sou he, What do you
got to come out for this?

Speaker 4 (23:26):
But you're telling me, you're telling me starting pitchers, that's right,
you can actually pitch in the sixth inning.

Speaker 1 (23:31):
Uha, am I the only one that's getting a little
bit concerned about Julio's high ankle sprain.

Speaker 2 (23:37):
It's a high ankle sprain. It's the dreaded Hia. Honestly,
I was actually thinking the other I was thinking the
other way. I was thinking of Julio.

Speaker 4 (23:44):
Being almost like like an old computer that gets bogged
down with stuff and sometimes the only way to fix
it is to shut it down in the reset it like.

Speaker 2 (23:52):
An Apple macintoe. I did just can hear it? Just
and just.

Speaker 4 (23:55):
Reset it, wipe the hard drive and then start it
back up again, and it's looking like new. I think
not that not having Julio in the lineup is a
good thing. Of course it's not a good thing. But
I think be just him being away from competitive baseball
for a month right might actually clear his mind and
get him almost like a second spring training and get

(24:16):
his season started off right. I'm I am using I
am being Johnny optimist on Julio Rodriguez coming back for
the Mariners and having a really good last what month?

Speaker 2 (24:26):
Six weeks of baseball?

Speaker 1 (24:27):
Okay, let me just make sure I heard what you
said correctly. You want him out for a month.

Speaker 4 (24:31):
No, I'm saying whenever he comes back. I mean, it
doesn't sound like it's gonna be. It doesn't sound like
it's gonna be this week.

Speaker 1 (24:37):
Well, he hasn't played it since the twenty first of July,
and I'm concerned it's gonna be a lot longer than
the Mariners are letting on.

Speaker 2 (24:44):
That's my point.

Speaker 4 (24:45):
Oh yeah, No, I think it's gonna be towards the
end of the month, towards the end of August.

Speaker 2 (24:49):
Yeah, I totally agree with you.

Speaker 1 (24:50):
I mean, I would not be surprised if he misses
almost the entire month, and he misses four and five
weeks of time.

Speaker 2 (24:56):
We're just reading between the lines. That's not good man.
I mean to have him.

Speaker 1 (25:00):
Look, I mean, he can reset his brain over the offseason,
right the idea. I mean, you're saying, if the Mariners
are like tied for first when he comes back, then
we'll see a hurricane that will come back and just
dominate baseball for the month of September. I hope you're right,
but they need this guy and he's got to figure
it out today. This idea that he needs time off
or he should take time off, or you know, I

(25:21):
get that, you're just, you know, kind of you're playing
the positive side of him missing a significant amount of time.
I totally get that. But he's got to get his
ass back. He's got to get his butt hitting again
and start to carry this baseball team. And maybe he's
not got to carry him as much because they have
Randy or Rose Arena and they got Justin Turner? Is
is Turner hitting clean up again tonight for these guys?

(25:42):
I mean, my god, Justin Turner.

Speaker 2 (25:44):
Hitting clean up for the Mariners at two top of
the order hitters. Yeah, but that's not necessarily a good thing.
When Justin Turner is your cleanup hitter? Are you a
kid made? And what world is that what you wanted
back in.

Speaker 4 (25:58):
March in twenty twelve, want top hitter? But as far
as Julio goes, I mean, right now, you're only replacing
a six eighty.

Speaker 2 (26:07):
Seven ops guy.

Speaker 4 (26:09):
It's it's not like Julio has left this massive hole
in the line to replace.

Speaker 2 (26:14):
Can you get Victor Roeblaze.

Speaker 4 (26:15):
To continue to do what he's doing, because Victor Roblaze
is outperforming what Julio has done this year, and it's
not even particularly close.

Speaker 1 (26:23):
Julio left the massive hole with the way he played.
That's the point. I'm not looking to replace Julio. Nobody
wants to replace Julio. We want to have somebody that
can be better than what Julio's been.

Speaker 2 (26:33):
The only guy that can do that is Julio, right.

Speaker 4 (26:36):
But my point is, let's say the Mariners got to
tide for first place with Julio at a nine to
fifty ops, right, and then you took him out of
the lineup for a month.

Speaker 2 (26:46):
That would be a massive hole horse.

Speaker 4 (26:48):
But you got to tide for first place with Julio
doing replacement level offense.

Speaker 2 (26:53):
So that's all you need to replace to continue to
be where you're at.

Speaker 1 (26:57):
But I don't want to be where I'm at. I
understand the whole point. I want to be where I'm at, Deck.
I want to be better than this. How in the
world can we be okay with what they've done in
the first more four months of the year. You don't
drive me nuts already, it's one hundred and fifteen degrees outside.
It's ninety nine percent humidity. I'm sweating my ass off
in here, and you're making me crazy.

Speaker 4 (27:14):
My goal is, with three of your starters out of
the lineup, to tread water with Houston until you get
those guys back, and then you pass.

Speaker 1 (27:23):
Them all Right, let's get a break textimonials. This next
Humilin is going to join us at five right here
on ninety three three KJRFM.
