Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, let's get to it quickly becoming a popular

(00:02):
segment every Thursday, so popular. This is the second time
we've done it here. It's right on the radio show
our friend Taylor, Taylor, how are you? I'm good? How
are you? From the five twenty Bar and Grill with
her Thursday night prediction somebody will win fifty bucks to
the five twenty Bar and Grill in Bellevue based on
Taylor's prediction of tonight's game with the Broncos and Saints
against the spread. But first, let's go back to two

(00:24):
weeks ago, because we weren't here last week is in
the Seahau game. Let's go back to two weeks ago
and listen to how you did with your first prediction
on Thursday Night Football rolling.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
Well, I think since the Buccaneers are an underdog and
they did so well, you know, last Sunday, I'm thinking
that they're gonna be the winner tonight.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
All right, so you're taking Tampa Bay plus the two
and a half.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
Unfortunately, the Joe's one.

Speaker 4 (00:48):
Well you know why, you know we can blame is
Oregon Duck Bucky Irving for fumbling the ball in the
last three minutes of the game. I mean you can
always blame a duck exactly.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
Well, you have another duck starting tonight for the Denver
BRONCOSO given three against the Saints. All right, who do
you like tonight? Taylor?

Speaker 2 (01:08):
Tell us we're gonna do the Denver Broncos tonight.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
Minus the three. They're gonna win by four more. All right, Yes,
you think Denver's gonna get it done? Why why do
you believe in the Denver Broncos? And don't say because
BONNICKX is cute by.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
The way, Okay, you know I'm not too I don't
really know anything about either team. I'm just gonna go
like I just like the BA of Horses.

Speaker 3 (01:29):
So I love It's gonna go with that, all right.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
So Taylor's taking b Nicks and Denver minus the three.
If you agree with her, you texted she chose wisely
to four nine, four to five one. If you think
she chose poorly, you'll text in shows poorly to four nine,
four to five one, and Jackson will pick one winner
and we'll give somebody fifty bucks to the five twenty
bar and grill. Hey, while you're here, real quick, sell

(01:51):
this place. What's going on? Some big events coming up,
Halloween party, happy hour with the whole thing.

Speaker 3 (01:55):
What's going on here at the five twenty Bar and Grill?

Speaker 2 (01:57):
All right, so we got a really good happy hour
going on right now. We have a jumbo pretzel which
everyone loves. Yeah, hot wings, which you can't go wrong with.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
There you go.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
And then we have our Halloween party coming up on
October twenty six at eight pm, where there is going
to be a live DJ and a costume contest with
a two hundred dollars prize for first place in the
last costume.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
Awesome. All right, Hey, you're doing good at this. Come
back next week at five o'clock. All right, right, all right,
that's Taylor from the five twenty Bar and Grill. She
likes Denver tonight minus the points. What do we think
fellas this year? Right on? Did she choose poorly or wisely?

Speaker 4 (02:30):
Well, I've already told Jackson, who picked the Saints, that
he chose wisely, so I can't very well be hypocritical
and tell Taylor, even though she's, you know, a lot
nicer than Jackson.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
Way better.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
Look, I tell you the bar is low.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
Yeah, I just think it's a dog game, right, it's
hair We're taking under.

Speaker 4 (02:51):
Like it's a perfect game that we don't. It's a
perfect game to have a hockey game on ninety three.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
Picks, So right that guy would have to carry this trap?
Is that with rich BR's thinking back, think, guy, we're
not gonna carry this none sense.

Speaker 3 (03:03):
We got cracking fly all right. So Mike Congrant Taylor,
thank you very much.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
Mike Congran said today with us on the show, he's
more concerned about the defense than he is the offense.
Do we agree with him?

Speaker 3 (03:14):
Jackson, you haven't shined in much today?

Speaker 1 (03:16):
What do you think?

Speaker 3 (03:17):
I agree whole heart.

Speaker 5 (03:18):
I think I'm way more concerned about the defense and
the offense because I think to Mike's I think, perfect point,
our supposed head coach is well, according to Hugh Millen,
like the most brilliant defensive mind on Earth, and we're
clearly seeing that isn't the case, and I think that
I'm sorry, it's it's just.

Speaker 1 (03:36):
Already.

Speaker 5 (03:37):
I mean, listen, yes, the the talent on this team
is not nearly what it is on the Ravens, but
if he's the most brilliant defensive mind on Earth, you
would have think he would have done a little bit
more with as you mentioned Devin Witherspoon, who's done statistically
with what he did last year, nothing in that regard,
and I just don't see it from from this defense yet. Meanwhile,
Ryan Grubb, I'd still maybe it's the Husky. I still

(04:00):
got faith in what he can do, and I think
we just need to see him. And I don't know
if it's it's the comfortability, it's the confidence, it's the
understanding what you got, as we talked about with Mike.
But like the pieces on offense are there, I don't
know if the pieces on defense have ever been there.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
Well, that's the point right now, that they got better
pieces on offense than defense, right just because of availability
when you factor in injuries that oh, offense.

Speaker 4 (04:24):
Has two hands, there's any talent on.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
This Why I'm actually stunned to hear Jackson jumping off
the wagon already some to on these six games and
it's clearly not the best defensive mine in the world.
If he was, you know what the hell he's doing. Well, No,
I got nobody out there, Jackson. Holy crap, I don't No,
it's not nobody out there.

Speaker 5 (04:43):
I mean you you gave the PFF ratings for Witherspoon
and Treak Wool in the last segment, they clearly, clearly
they have something out.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
The Reeks hurt though he's he's gonna.

Speaker 5 (04:54):
Let's let's continue, and let's talk about the fact that
they have Lennon Williams. Let's talk about the fact that
they have a defensive line that we thought was had
at least some talent that he could revolve around those
guys for.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
Like two or three games. An Williams was hurt. Let
me just say this, free games, Draymont Jones is a wall.
What the hell's going on with Draymond Jones?

Speaker 3 (05:10):
Exactly?

Speaker 1 (05:11):
Draymond Jones signs the biggest free agent contract right in
the history of the Seahawks is here and he's done
nothing zero, He's done zip. I mean, what the hell's
going on with that guy?

Speaker 6 (05:19):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (05:19):
I swear to god, I was sitting at home the
other day thinking does he still play here?

Speaker 4 (05:24):
I mean it just it just fuels my fire on
anti free agent signings when you're not when you're not
a superstar. I'm all for signing superstar free agent, but
you're that next level and you have to overpay to
get a guy. He's just has not been good. But
back to Jackson's point, I mean, yeah, tour the Seahawks defense,

(05:46):
correct me if I'm wrong, was good for the first
three games of the year.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
Right, Yeah, pretty good. Okay, they played nobody.

Speaker 4 (05:50):
They played nobody, but then they haven't had their guys
in the last three games.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
And then Jackson said, well, it's just yeah, it's been
two or three games. Well, it's only been two or
three games. They've been playing poorly.

Speaker 4 (06:00):
So what I can't figure out is have they been
playing poorly because they're playing better teams or they've been
playing poorly because they don't have their guys, right, And
I don't think we're going to know until we have
a nice long stretch of games against teams like Atlanta
that are okay and you get your guys back and
we actually see what they have on this defense. The

(06:22):
problem with the offense is that you've got two positions you.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
Don't have an answer for. Yeah, right tackle on right guard,
you don't.

Speaker 4 (06:29):
Have an If you're telling me Abe Lucas isn't coming back,
and it doesn't sound like I mean, there has been
no indication that Abe Lucas is coming back anytime soon.

Speaker 1 (06:38):
And if that's the case. I would argue that your
two biggest holes.

Speaker 4 (06:42):
On your football team are on the offensive side of
the ball in right guarden, right time.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
Yeah, No, I totally agree with that. I think the
offensive line has been a massive disappointment. I mean, when
we think about what we thought the offensive line was
going to look like, like back in July or June
or whatever, it was Abe Lucas, it was the kid
for Christian Haynes, it was Big Olu, right, it was
Lake and Tomlinson, and it was Charles Cross and I

(07:08):
thought that looked good.

Speaker 6 (07:09):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (07:10):
I remember even going on the air saying, God, it's
taking John Schneider three four years worth of picks and
trading and drafting to get to this point, and the
offensive line looks like it might be said Big Olu
has been, for whatever reason, a complete downer. He can't
even play. I mean, look, guys, I think we're kind
of starting to figure out why Big Olu was a
fifth round draft pick, right yeah, and why Christian Haines

(07:31):
fell to the third round. By the way, if these
guys could play, they would have gone a lot higher
than they did. And I'm not saying that they can't play.
I mean, who knows what will happen down the road.
Haynes is a rookie and Olu is in year two
for crying out loud, but I had penciled those guys
in the starters on this football team. They're gonna start
one rookie. Thank god they signed George Fan. Now he's hurt,
let's see. You know, obviously that's a problem for them

(07:53):
at right tackle. But I it just this is what like,
he pisses you off when teams signed free agents like
mid tien your free agents for superstar money. Correct, It
drives me nuts when players come to your town and
all of a sudden, they just look so much better
because they're wearing your uniform. Oh this guy's great, No,
he's not. He stinks. I mean, there's a reason why
he's here. It's like this guy we got from Jacksonville,

(08:15):
the defensive tackle. I mean, I don't know a damn
thing about him, you know, but he's thirty one. There's
a reason why the Jaguars got rid of him. I mean, like,
what are we doing here? Jamal Adams? The same stupid
thing with all these idiots on social media. Bring back
Jamal Adams? Why he sucks, Like, what are you talking about?

Speaker 7 (08:34):
Man?

Speaker 3 (08:34):
You watch the guy play.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
He wants nothing to do with contact, His knees are shot,
he can't run. He's great at cleaning up somebody else's play.
Only reason why you're even talking about the guys because
he was here for a couple of years. It's so dumb.
It drives me crazy how we as fans sometimes can't
even look at players and be honest about what we
have in them because they wear our uniform. I hate it.

Speaker 4 (08:58):
Well, here's what disappoints me is that the linebacker corps
has just been another things. Right, and you you had
Bobby Wagner, and you decided you didn't want Bobby Wagner anymore.
Then you decided you did want Bobby Wagner again, right,
And he was actually pretty good for you, It wasn't
he one of the PFF right highest? And then he said,

(09:19):
now I don't want Bobby Wagner again, And.

Speaker 1 (09:21):
Now you got a whole line Well, I I look,
if the reasoning behind Bobby Wagner is we're rebuilding, we
want to get some young guys in there, Okay, fine,
but the Dodson Baker thinks same thing. So reason why
these guys got one year deals, Dick, come on, I mean,
let's just let's just look at this from a simple person.
Is a reason why they're on one year deals. It's
a reason why they weren't given big money. Jordan Brooks

(09:42):
took off to Miami. He's playing okay from what I
gather for the Dolphins right now. Bobby Wagner's playing really
well for the Commanders. Yes, I would love to have
both those guys there, But for the long term health
of the franchise, are they better off just moving on,
giving that money to somebody else, or saving it down
the road and spending it on a different player making
it Tony well Brook's got like ten million denny from

(10:02):
from Miami. What'd Bobby get from the Commanders? I think
it was like eight or nine million bucks. I mean
they're paying They're paying dots in the baker like a
third of what Wagner and Brooks are making. I think
you can confirm that for me. But again, there's a
reason why both those guys are on one year freaking deals. Man,
is a reason why they're on one year deals. And
we just we we fall in love with these guys,

(10:24):
Like when the Mariners make a trick. Look at look
at what those guys doing this lefties or what are
you doing? No, man, come on, dude, Mitch Garb.

Speaker 3 (10:32):
These aren't even guys that we'd be talking.

Speaker 1 (10:34):
About wanting to come here before the Mariners or Seahawks
make a move to bring him to Seattle. And then
all of a sudden they come here and they're like
freaking Hall of famers. I don't know why it bothers
me so much, because it's just fans being fans, and
I get that. You know, we're excited about our guys
and you want to support your guys. But these dudes
show up here and they and they they just they

(10:54):
look like all.

Speaker 3 (10:55):
Pros to us because now they play for the seat.

Speaker 4 (10:58):
Well, it doesn't it depend on who the front office is,
because if you because I don't think Jerry Depoto is
gonna bring anybody in that anybody's gonna think is any good.
Because it's Jerry Depota right now, John Schneider, we have
a lot more trust in Yeah, so when he brings
in a guy, you're like, oh, this guy must be good.
John brought him in. But do do people drool over
Jerry Depoto? Free agent signings.

Speaker 1 (11:19):
I don't know, man. I mean, there was a couple
of guys that they brought in over the offseason. And
maybe I'm just paying way too much attention to social media.
I'm sure it is. Sure that's my problem. Right, You
get the one or two people that just drool over
these players and think that they're hall the Hall of
Famers when they're not. We have got to be honest
about this football team, and the Seahawks have got to
be honest about this football team. And I think they're
doing that. And I honestly think and your point about

(11:42):
running the ball, Hey, I didn't agree with you for
the line game. I absolutely did on the Giant game.
We haven't even talked about how they tried to run
the ball against the Niners, which I thought they made
more of an effort.

Speaker 4 (11:54):
Only in the first half it didn't work and then
they got behind and then again, I'm gonna use the
word panic. When you're only down by seven point points
in the third quarter and all you do is throw
from then on out, that to me is a panic move.
But I'm not saying just because I'm not saying I
don't trust Ryan Grubb, I'm saying offensive coordinators throughout the
NFL for some reason.

Speaker 6 (12:13):
Due.

Speaker 3 (12:14):
Okay, so they're down, so let's talk about this for
a second.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
Yes, they're down sixteen to three at half time against
the Niners.

Speaker 4 (12:20):
Yes, and then they had an unbelievably awesome balanced drive
for ninety four yards in a touchdown. Okay, was fantastic,
and then they're like, we're not gonna run anymore.

Speaker 1 (12:28):
Right, so, but right, but this is they're down sixteen
to three at halftime, and then the Niners start in
the third quarter with a nine place, seventy yard drive
and it's twenty three to three. So at that point,
and they got the Laviska channel kickoff return, that's why
it was twenty three to ten.

Speaker 6 (12:47):
Right.

Speaker 1 (12:47):
Don't we think though at halftime when you're down sixteen
to three, even if Ryan Grubb and Mike McDonald are
sitting there at halftime going, okay, we're down thirteen, we're
down two scores, gotta keep let's see if we can run,
and then you're down twenty after the first drive for
the third quarter, it's twenty three to three. Yeah, but
he touched the ball, right, But at that point, don't
you start to think we're down twenty points. We got

(13:07):
to start throwing the ball around, touch the ball.

Speaker 4 (13:09):
The next time he touched the ball, it was twenty
three to ten, and he had an unbelievably awesome ninety
four yard drive for a touchdown, making it twenty three
to seventeen.

Speaker 1 (13:20):
Right, you are back in the game. And they stopped
running from that point. On five plays, twelve yards, Charbonne ran,
Charbonne ran, They ran it twice, they got a first
down gino incomplete, Charbonne runs, GINO incomplete, and then the
next drive a pass pass pass. They had a five
play drive down six where they ran the ball three times.

Speaker 4 (13:41):
All right, Then the Niners got it and they punted.
So we got the ball again at your own three
yard line. Right pass pass, pass, pass interception. Okay, five passes,
zero runs. The forty nine ers converted that into a touchdown.

Speaker 1 (13:55):
What kind of defense were the Niners playing on those plays?
Because we look at these at the plays and we
just think, well, just run it, okay against what a
nine man box?

Speaker 4 (14:04):
We're not seeing a box I have no I have
not seen I don't know that box since the first
half of the line.

Speaker 1 (14:08):
Okay, well, I mean I'll just trust you on that,
because I don't remember the defense the Niners were in
with nine to twenty seven left to go in the
fourth quarter, down twenty three to seventeen, I don't have
the I mean, if you're telling me that they were
playing base defense and you could have run the ball
the Niners defense on those on those plays, that I'll
believe you. But I'm looking at a football team that
tried to run the ball in the second half. I'm

(14:30):
looking at a football team that fell behind twenty points.
I'm also thinking that I'm looking at guys an offensive
coordinator that has lost faith in his rushing attack. And
if that's the problem, and he's right about that, then
they might be in some big trouble. Why the ball?

Speaker 4 (14:47):
Why could he run against Broncos who are an awesome defense.

Speaker 1 (14:50):
Partly because they had George Fannitt right tackle. Now they
have Stone Forsyth. They've gone from a starting caliber guy
to a guy that, let's face it, barely made the
freaking roster. So I mean, I don't want to make
I'm not saying one guy's the entire difference, but I
do think, look, I do think that there is some
room for let's find other reasons besides Ryan Grubb is

(15:11):
panicking or Ryan Grubb doesn't know what he's doing, And
if that's the case and he proves that, then they're
gonna make a change one day. That I don't think
that Ryan Grubb doesn't know what he's doing.

Speaker 4 (15:21):
But what I do think is if the offensive coordinator
hired by the Seattle Seahawks was named Joe Brown, right
and he came from the Commanders, or he came from
Illinois Football right, and he came in here and was
running the offense like this, he would be getting run
out of town right now. But because his name is
Ryan Grubb, he is getting the benefit of the doubt.

Speaker 1 (15:44):
You know why, because we know him and we trust
him because we've seen it before. Because he has a history,
that's the whole point. Like those other guys like too
to get the job of the seas so we don't
know the history. We we know the history of Ryan Grubb.
Why do you think Pete Carroll and guys like Lorenzo
Romar got so much slack Because they earned it, They
earned it, They earned that that trust with people in

(16:04):
this town. Ryan Grubb has earned it. Now again, at
some point it doesn't really translate. Doesn't matter. You gotta
win freaking games and score points. But I think Ryan
Grubb you mentioned it about the defense about McDonald playing
with one hand time his back.

Speaker 3 (16:16):
I think Ryan Grubb's doing the exact same thing with.

Speaker 1 (16:18):
That Flans outline. I think I'm exact same thing. All right,
five point twenty one, John Michaels in Atlanta, you gotta
join us next on ninety three three KJRFF Live.

Speaker 8 (16:26):
From the R and R Foundation Specialist Broadcast Studio. Now
back to Softie and Dick Gone your home for the
Huskies and the Kraken Sports Radio ninety three point three
kjr FM.

Speaker 1 (16:39):
All right, what do you say we head down to Atlanta, Georgio.
We got cracking flyers by the way coming up at
seven o'clock tonight, pregame six thirty right here on ninety
three three KJRFL. But let's head to Atlanta. Joining us
right now on the radio show. He is the king
of sports talk radio in Atlanta, the absolute undisputed heavyweight
champion from six point eighty to fan, our friend, John Michaels,

(17:00):
how are you pal?

Speaker 6 (17:02):
I'm doing great, I heard you, guys. Weather Report forty
four and cold there is a reason I live in
the South. My goodness, it's too early in the year
for it to be that cold.

Speaker 1 (17:10):
Yeah, well, when it's one hundred and fifteen and one
hundred and fifty thousand percent humidity, your sweat and your
nuts off. Okay, pal, you want to be here in
Seattle with last. But hey, how about how about this
Falcon team? First of all, how's our guy Jimmy Lake doing.
We got a matchup of an ex Husky defensive coordinator
versus the x Husky offensive coordinator in Ryan Grubb. How's
our guy Jimmy Lake doing down there?

Speaker 6 (17:32):
Well, we are the ultimate ben but don't break defense.
My goodness. We can't sack a quarterback with a shovel
and a rope. I mean, it's so terrible. Falcons are
dead last in the NFC and the dead last in
the NFL with sacking the quarterback with only five on
the year. But you know what, they have found ways
to make plays at the end of games, to get
off the field come up with turnovers. So so far,

(17:53):
so good. We're four and two, so I can't complain
about anything after seven straight years of missing the postseason.

Speaker 4 (18:00):
Well, it looks like the defense has actually looked better
in the losses than their wins because those wins have
primarily been shootouts.

Speaker 6 (18:06):
Right, Yeah, absolutely. I mean even the win last week
against Carolina, it's twenty eight to twenty in the fourth
quarter and Carolina's driving to come up with a tying
score and aj Terrell undercuts a route and gets an intercession.
But yeah, the defense played great in the opener against Pittsburgh,
played really well. Even in the loss to Kansas City,
they kind of slowed down Patrick Mahomes and company. But

(18:26):
the defense over the last couple of weeks, even New Orleans,
you know, they did score a defensive touchdown which ultimately
ended up being the winner, but Tampa Bay sliced and
dice them. Carolina with Andy Dalton moved the ball up
and down the field. But the good thing is that
coincided with the time with Kirk Cousins, Bjohn Robinson and
Tyler Alves here really got their act together. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (18:45):
Well, John Michael's again from Atlanta Seahawks and Falcons on Sunday,
and you mentioned it right there, man. The the concerns
that the Seahawks defense, who are still kind of banged
up by the way defensively, Like, what am I really
concerned about him?

Speaker 3 (18:59):
I concerned about begoing nuts?

Speaker 1 (19:01):
So am I concerned about Drake London and Darnell Mooney
Kyle Pitts? What am I really thinking about? If I'm
game planning for this Falcon offense.

Speaker 6 (19:10):
In best case scenario, what they want to do under
Zach Robinson has run the outside zone scheme and then
play action pass off of it. I think you know,
people that watch the game on the Thursday night a
couple of weeks ago against Tampa to night man, Atlanta's
gonna throw the ball all over the yard. They had
to that day out of necessity because Tampa was taking
away the outside zone run. I think what Zach Robinson

(19:32):
would rather do is what happened in Carolina this past week.
He had to combine two hundred yards out of their
top two backs, Dejon Robinson and Tyler Algier. Drake London
had just about one hundred yards receiving, and Kirk Cousins
only had to throw the ball thirty times. So I
think grand scheme they would like to run it first
and then play action off of it. But I'm gonna
tell you Drake London who in its first two years

(19:53):
did not feel like the number eighth overall pick has
turned into a very very dangerous number one receiver. He's
on pace right now for ninety six catches over twelve
hundred yards and eleven touchdowns, which would be a marked
improvement for what he gave us the first couple of years.

Speaker 1 (20:08):
Why doesn't Bijon get more carries?

Speaker 4 (20:10):
I mean he's at five point six yards per carry,
yet he only gets it thirteen times a game.

Speaker 1 (20:15):
I mean this is a first round draft pick.

Speaker 4 (20:17):
I mean he looks to be a top three talent
in the NFL, and they don't really run him that much.

Speaker 6 (20:23):
No, they like to spread it around. They really like
Tyler Alger. I think Tyler's averaging over six yards of
carry as the backup running back. And remember, as a
rookie two years ago, before Bijon was drafted, Tyler Algier
was a thousand yard back. I think there's times in
the outside zone scheme that Tyler Algier actually runs the
ball a little bit better. He is a one cut

(20:44):
guy that's going to get downhill and he runs through
people like every time somebody hits him. You'll see guys
bouncing off of him and you'll wonder why. I mean,
the guy's built like a brick blank house, if you
know what I mean. Lower body is immense and runs
really hard. And I think they also like to save
Jon for different things. They're going to throw them the
ball out of the backfield from time to time, and

(21:04):
I think right now they're just kind of pacing the
two of them, which is why you don't see Djon
getting twenty carries as a fantasy football owner. It drives
me crazy. I'm like, for the love, could you give
him the ball twenty five times and get me some yards.

Speaker 1 (21:16):
I'm totally with Dick on this one. I thought they're
going to build their whole offense around the guy. I'm
actually shocked they're not giving him the ball more. To
be honest with you, but is kirk Cousins being pushed
by Michael Pennix at all? I mean, he looks like
he's playing pretty damn good. Is he kind of motivated
by the fact that Pedix is there?

Speaker 6 (21:33):
I think so. And I think the other part, Sophie
is really the health has gotten better. You go back
and watch the first two or three games. Kirk Cousins
was laboring, trying to even get the handoffs, and then
all of a sudden, week by week you see the
achilles starting to feel better. But I do think there
is a little bit of a shadow sitting behind you
with a guy that you took eighth overall, especially when

(21:54):
you look around the NFL and Caleb Williams is playing
some pretty good ball, and Jaden Daniels looks like he's
going to be the rookie of the year, Spencer Rattler
in New Orleans, pops in Drake May all of a
sudden starting. The one guy that's not playing is Michael
Pennix obviously because the plan was never to really play
him this year, and JJ McCarthy, who unfortunately got hurt.
So I think Kirk is definitely motivated to play a

(22:14):
lot better ball, knowing that he's got a youngster behind
him in Michael Pennix.

Speaker 4 (22:18):
What have the reviews been on Pennis in training camp,
in preseason, you know, in practice. I mean, obviously I haven't
seen him in a regular season game, but what has
everybody thought of him glowing?

Speaker 6 (22:31):
They think he is an absolutely NFL ready quarterback. And
I'll give you the best example. He played in the
first preseason game. Okay, great, and Raheem Morris goes, we've
seen enough. He didn't play in the next two preseason
games because he said, we know exactly what this guy
can do. We saw him in the joint practices. They
had a couple down in Miami, and he goes, we
don't need to see this guy in games anymore. And

(22:53):
I think they were so afraid of we don't want
to get this guy hurt, just in case that Kirk
Cousins wasn't ready. But they love Michael Penicky. I think
they're in a couple of years, they've gotten themselves a star,
much like Jordan loves sit. A few years in Green
Bay and then we've got a star right after that.

Speaker 1 (23:07):
Hey, John real quick, John Michaels with us from Atlanta.
Is is Jimmy xtuy calling the plays on defense down there?

Speaker 6 (23:13):
Yes he is absolutely.

Speaker 3 (23:16):
John Michael's from Atlanta with us, all right.

Speaker 1 (23:18):
So the view from twenty five hundred miles away on
this Seahawks football team. We've had some big games with
each other in the last ten to fifteen years. Most
of them involved the legion to boom Russell Wilson, Pete Carroll,
brand new coaching staff, brand new roster. What's the perception
of the Seahawks Right now, you're thinking Atlanta.

Speaker 6 (23:36):
We're still scared to death of the Seahawks because Gino Smith.
I know, and I watched the entire Dolphin game, which
may have been the worst football game I've ever watched,
because without Tua, the Dolphins are a JV team. But
Seattle looks really good. And if the Falcons are unable
to get pressure on the quarterback, which they haven't all
year long, Gino is going to be able to sit
back there and throw to a bevy of really good receivers. Now, defensively,

(23:59):
you're not where you with the Legion of Boom, obviously,
but still pretty good. And it feels like just one
of those hard nosed, gritty Seattle teams who can run
it and spin it around. And I have a feeling
that with about five minutes ago in the fourth quarter,
we're gonna be in a one score game and whoever
has the ball last is probably gonna walk out of
Mercedes ben Stadium with a win.

Speaker 4 (24:18):
I remember on Draft night a couple of years ago,
John I was asked, you know, we went around the room,
who do you think is going to be the best
player ten years from now. Out of this first round.
I voted for Kyle Pitts because I thought he was.

Speaker 1 (24:31):
Just an absolute freak show.

Speaker 4 (24:34):
And it just hasn't materialized into a freak show.

Speaker 1 (24:37):
What has happened.

Speaker 6 (24:40):
Part of it is injury. You know, two years last
year and the year before he was hampered with a
knee injury. And last year, truthfully, he probably should have
taken about six to eight weeks off. He was dragging
the leg a rap. I think part of it had
to do with playing with terrible quarterbacks in Mariota and
Desmond Ritter for two years. This year he's had flashes.
He had a great game against Tampa. He looked like

(25:00):
a number one tight end. But it just doesn't seem
like all the time the motor is on. And I
don't know if you guys got to see the Carolina
game at all. There was a play where we went
three receivers right and single receiver left down by the
red zone, and it was Kyle Pitts to the left,
match one on one with a corner, and Kirk Cousins
tries to throw a fade to the back to the

(25:21):
back of the end zone and Kyle Pitts basically stops
about halfway through his route and never finishes the route,
and the ball just lands in the back of the
end zone. And I think it was Mark Sanchez was
on Color commentary eviscerates Kyle pitt You can't do that
in your quarterback. You can't have that kind of effort.
And there's just times that doesn't feel like he's going
one hundred miles an hour like you need you in

(25:42):
this league. It sucks because the talent is there, it
just has not materialized the way that it should.

Speaker 1 (25:48):
Hey, you're your quarterback, and to win the Heisman Trophy,
by the.

Speaker 6 (25:51):
Way, I sure as I'll hope. So unlike Travis Hunter,
I will not knock what Aston Jenk is doing at
Boise State. I think that kid is amazing. I stayed
up way too many times till two o'clock in the
morning watching them. Mcam Ward's got bigger games. We got
to take care of business noon Eastern on Saturday, so
I can be a happy man next Saturday when we

(26:12):
get some revenge on Florida State. Mcam is awesome. We
thank you for sending him from the Pacific Northwest all
the way around the South Florida.

Speaker 1 (26:19):
What's your level of confidence?

Speaker 4 (26:21):
Where are the Georgia Bulldogs level of confidence going into
this Texas game this week?

Speaker 6 (26:28):
Not as much as it normally would be. Normally you
think of a Kirby smart coach team, you're gonna walk
into wherever and you're gonna win. After watching them against Bama,
watching them struggle a little bit against Kentucky, watching them
last week not really impressive against Mississippi State, I think
Texas is better. I don't think Georgia has an elite
player on offense outside of the quarterback in Carson Beck,

(26:48):
and I think the defensively they're nowhere near as good
as they were in those couple of national championship seasons.
I think it'll be close, but I think Texas ultimately
wins the game with home field advantage and just better
weapons everywhere.

Speaker 1 (27:00):
Real quick. John Michael's before you go, we play a
game on this radio show every now and then call
you can only have one. You can only have one.
You can't have both a national championship for your beloved
Hurricanes or a Super Bowl title for the Atlanta Falcons.

Speaker 6 (27:14):
It's not even closed. I have about seven University of
Miami tattoos. I would chop off a finger right now
for a Miami national championship. My son's name is Kane.
He ain't tracking. His name is Kane. So absolutely a
Cane's national title.

Speaker 1 (27:30):
I thought he was gonna say I already got seven championships.
Give me the Lombardi for crying out. All right, John,
you're the man. We'll talk to him, Budy, appreciate it.

Speaker 6 (27:37):
Pal, I got talk to you. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (27:39):
He's he's a he's a huge Miami fan living down
there at Yeah, he's from there originally. He loves the Hurricanes.
He's got tattoos, Yeah he is. But he's when Miami
and Georgia if they ever get together, he's pissing everybody
off in town. Everybody. All right, we're gonna break. Brian
Schmetzer is gonna join us, coming up before cracking pre game.
That's six thirty right here on ninety three three KJRFF Live.

Speaker 8 (28:02):
From the R and R Foundation Specialist Broadcast Studio. Now
back to Softie and Dick on your Home for the
Huskies and the Kraken Sports Radio ninety three point three
kjr FM.

Speaker 1 (28:16):
All right, boys and girls, we're back at the five
twenty Bar and Grail in Bellevue Halloween Party coming up
to twenty sixth of October eight o'clock DJ Costume contest
win two hundred bucks for the best costume. I wonder
if Brian Schmeizer was a big tricker treat guy when
he was a kid growing up. I bet he was.
He's with us right now. Let's ask fun loving guy, Brian.
Were you a big trick or treat guy when you

(28:38):
were a kid?

Speaker 6 (28:39):
Well, of course I was.

Speaker 7 (28:40):
I mean, Halloween's one of my favorite holidays.

Speaker 1 (28:43):
All right. If you can dress up as any character
right now from your soccer team, who would it.

Speaker 7 (28:47):
Be of my soccer team?

Speaker 1 (28:50):
Yeah? Dress up with Stephan fran stretch yourself, Mr ye Ibar.
Here you go, good looking dude, right, no doubt? Uh, welcome, congratulations.
Three shut out within for you guys. Three nothing over Vancouver,
one nothing over Houston, and then nothing. A couple of
weeks ago against Colorado, had the weekend off.

Speaker 7 (29:08):
Man.

Speaker 1 (29:08):
Tell me about how you spent the weekend focusing on
facing Portland or did you kind of give yourself a
day to kind of chill out a little bit?

Speaker 7 (29:17):
Well, because of the weird scheduling, I mean, it's just
it's kind of weird. In the break, we had to
generate some excitement. Now, we did give them three days
off because it was a tough week. Three games in
a week and nine point week. It was really, you know,
halfs off to them. I gave them some kudos and
then three days off, which I know they enjoyed. But training,

(29:39):
you know, the guys like to play. They don't like
the training. So we came up with some different things
to make things competitive. And it's it's it's worked. I mean,
they were a little grumpy yesterday. I got to admit, Softie,
you know, I think they're looking forward to the game.
But overall, the preparation has been good. And yes, the
focus has been absolutely on Portland.

Speaker 4 (30:00):
Well, the marketing department's focus has been on Portland, because
I'm seeing commercials all over the place burning wood and
you know, old clips of Portland versus Seattle all over
the television. So, I mean, winner takes a Cascadia Cup
tie sends it to Portland. I mean, is this the
biggest regular season match up between Seattle and Portland?

Speaker 1 (30:21):
Ever?

Speaker 7 (30:22):
Well, I don't know if it's ever, Dick, but I
don't know if the Cascadia Cup, you know, ever came
down to decision day. So the Cascadia Cup, you know,
is special to you know, Portland, Seattle and Vancouver. It's
kind of a unique trophy that MLS. You know, let
us continue because it's been in our history and you

(30:44):
know it's always been drama there. But a lot of
times the Cascadia Cup would be decided.

Speaker 6 (30:49):
Earlier in the year.

Speaker 7 (30:50):
So coming down to the final match, the final game,
that makes it a little more spicy.

Speaker 1 (30:54):
Well, this is a team that likes to give up
a lot of goals and score a lot of goals, right.
Obviously they got an MVP candidate back there as well.
What makes these guys so hard to play?

Speaker 7 (31:04):
Well, their front four are really super talented Softie, I
mean Evanders, the NDP candidate. Mora has had a great season.
You know, had an ACL injury a couple of years back,
but that's old news. Rodriguez their new guy. They've got
moreno on the ride. They've got some good subs, so
we've got some real attacking prowess. But you know, one

(31:27):
of their best defenders, Miller, he suspended for yellow card accumulation,
so you know it might be a little bit of
a makeshift back line back there, but you know, certainly
good an attack.

Speaker 4 (31:38):
Well, you got a big name visitor at practice yesterday.
The FIFA president Gianni Infantino was there. Was it like
having the president of global soccer there?

Speaker 1 (31:46):
And what did you guys talk about?

Speaker 7 (31:48):
Well, we talked about my experiences in ninety four when
the World Cup was here. We talked about just you know,
he's got a wife for kids. I mean, he was
a down to earth guy. I was I don't know
if I was surprised, but you know, we're just talking.
And he loved he loved talking about, you know, the
upcoming World Cup and the Club World Cup, and he

(32:09):
was certainly impressed with you know, Seattle in general. He
loved the city. City'd come back and obviously like the
facility of the stadium.

Speaker 6 (32:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (32:19):
How's his English by the way?

Speaker 7 (32:22):
English?

Speaker 1 (32:23):
Wow? Love it. How's your English by the way? Pretty good?
How big of a deal? How big of a deal
is this expanded Club World Cup thing coming to Seattle
next year? I mean obviously World Cup here in a
couple of years, but having all three of your group
stage games here sell this thing kind of put your
marketing hat on Man convinced me to buy tickets for

(32:44):
this thing next summer.

Speaker 7 (32:45):
You know, in years past, Softie, you know when when
we first were started in MLS, you know that we'd
have these exhibition games. We played Manchester United, we played Barcelona,
we played him. You know, some big name teams would
come to Seattle for you know, in the summertime for exhibitions. Well,
Barcelona could come here, Real Madrid could come here, Manchester United, Bayron, Munich,

(33:11):
they could come here and play us. But it's actually
a meaningful game. It's not just an exhibition where they
might throw you know, their stars out there for forty minutes,
forty five minutes and then you know, the reserves pick
up the slack or whatever. So that's the importance of it,
and that's the draw for me. We actually get to
play meaningful games against the top club teams in the world.

Speaker 4 (33:34):
So it sounds like they're putting temporary grass down at
Loomenfield for both the.

Speaker 1 (33:38):
Club World Cup and the World Cup.

Speaker 4 (33:40):
So how much will your team get to play on
that surface outside those special tournaments.

Speaker 7 (33:47):
Well they will when they put the grass down and everything.
I don't know the exact scheduling yet, but I do
know that grass, and you know, a better version of
the portable grass that they put into the stadium is
going to be laid down for both the Club World
Cup and the World Cup. And I think you know,
they'll use the Club World Cup to kind of see

(34:07):
and test and make sure that what they're doing is
good because the World Cup obviously is a big event,
but it'll be a good stretch run or dry run
for FIFA to make sure that things go smoothly for
twenty twenty six in the World Cup.

Speaker 1 (34:22):
All right, Brian Spetzer with us. That's enough of the
FIFA stuff. We got these scumbags coming to town on
Saturday in Portland. Let's go back to that for a second. Okay,
going back to that game. Your young midfielder o bet
Vargas just played for Mexico last night. Is he back
at starting for you on Saturday?

Speaker 3 (34:36):
Tell us right now, Yes he.

Speaker 7 (34:39):
Is, and he's very excited. I mean that was a
really Look it was only a ten minute cameo, but
to be nineteen years old and start with a veteran
or you know, participate with a veteran Mexico national team,
that was a big boost. He was flying today at training.
Knew who two wins with Cameroon. He's back. Jonathan Bell

(35:01):
was with Jamaica. Read Baker Whitings with the U twenties.
All the internationals are back and they're flying. They're feeling good.

Speaker 1 (35:08):
All right, coach.

Speaker 4 (35:09):
Finally, my weekly jal Paolo injury update. Is he able
to start yet? And would you even put him in
the starting line I'm considering you're winning plenty without him
in the starting lineup.

Speaker 7 (35:20):
Well, the second part of our question is the most
intriguing one. JP is working his way back. I wouldn't
say he's all the way back yet, Dick, but you
know when he's back, then he will have to actually
fight for position because you know, Obed and Christian have
done really well in there.

Speaker 1 (35:38):
All right, man, go get him on Saturday, and hopefully
we'll talk next week after a big win over the
Timbers this weekend. Man, good, good luck, go bad win
kick their ass for us, all right, no mercy sweep
the leg right, all right?

Speaker 7 (35:50):
All right, take care, thanks guys.

Speaker 1 (35:52):
All right.

Speaker 3 (35:52):
