Speaker 1 (00:00):
Don't think we're gonna forget our friend Taylor all right
with her five twenty bar and grill pick of the week.
And I'll just say this, you were not here a
week ago. We made the pick for you, and we
picked the Lions because you said why you remember why
hang on a second, let me turn your mic on.
Why did you say you wanted the Lions last week?

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Because the Lions are adorable?

Speaker 1 (00:20):
Because lions are adorable, Yeah, until they rip your freaking
head off and flaw your neck out, by the way,
you behind bars, that's right. But you went with the Lions,
and you didn't pick poorly. You didn't choose wisely. You
chose kind of okay because they tied, so you didn't
lose last week, thank god. All right, so now you're
one six and one on the ear Niners are given
what tonight doing half two and a half at home

(00:41):
against the Rams?

Speaker 2 (00:41):
Who do you like?

Speaker 3 (00:42):
And why the Niners?

Speaker 2 (00:43):
Because uh, my boyfriend's a huge fan, so we're going.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
To go for that.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
It always gives back to the boyfriend. Is he gonna
be in a bad mood if the Rams win tonight?

Speaker 2 (00:51):
Probably? Okay? We like him in a good mood. Well,
we're picking the Niners.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
We like the Niners to win because we need them
to beat the Rams because the Rams are right behind
the Seahawks exactly, all right, So Taylor.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
Likes the Niners.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
So you text into four nine four to five one
your first and last name and your email. And if
Taylor chose poorly or if she chose wisely, if the
Niners end up covering tonight, we'll draw one person from
the appropriate category and give him fifty bucks to the
five twenty bar and grow here inbove you and this
place is packed tonight. It's very pick what's going on
right now at the five twenty Well, we have a.

Speaker 4 (01:22):
Lot of business buyouts tonight, so lots of like an
eighteen top, a ten top.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
Everything's holiday fun, wow, any big events coming up before
Christmas that we should get down here for.

Speaker 5 (01:33):
Honestly, if you're going to Snowflake Lane, it's a good
idea to make a reservation, I will say that because
it is booked in almost every restaurant.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
I love it, all right, great stuff. We appreciate you
guys having us every week and go Niners.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
All right.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
I hope you win today, absolutely all right. Taylor from
the five twenty. She says, the Niners cover and win
the game tonight against the Rams. Chris Peterson's going to
join us, by the way, in about fifteen minutes from now.
You know, we haven't even talked about what's going on
with a game.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
On Sunday.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
We're talking to Chris collins Worth about the DK Metcalf situation,
the Gino Smith situation. I thought what he said about
DK Metcalf was sensational about him drawing double teams and
how valuable that guy he is. And I just just
wonder what this offense Dick would look like without a
guy like that sucking that pressure.

Speaker 4 (02:17):
Away With JSI, I'll tell you one thing, JSN would
not be one of only four wide receivers that have
seventy five catches, nine hundred yards.

Speaker 6 (02:24):
And five or more touchdowns. And that is the list
is impressive.

Speaker 4 (02:28):
The list is justin Jefferson, Ceedee Lamb, Jamar Chase and
Jackson Smith and Jigba those are the only four guys.
And I think DK Metcalf and he would most definitely
echo this. DK Metcalf is a major reason why for sure.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
And then you know we're gonna find out again what
these guys look like on Sunday night, if Kenny Walker
can't go, I mean, if Zach Sharbonney does it again
against the Packers on Sunday night, and we're talking to
Mike about this, and you know, look, I mean, I
know we didn't say this, but it almost feels like
they got something from Zach Sharberney that they couldn't get
from Kenny Walker because they're two different players. And then
maybe just having a guy who's not gonna ask an

(03:03):
offensive line to hold their blocks a little bit longer
is maybe the better option right now. I was still
floored by what Zach Charbonay did. I mean, I never
ever ever saw that coming. I don't even think Ryan
Grubbs saw that coming. If you gave him true SIAM
and said, hey, did you see the guy going for
a buck thirty or whatever the hell.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
It was, there's no way they saw that.

Speaker 4 (03:22):
They used him in the passing game with seven catches.
I mean, he just looked like he had a burst
that I've never seen before. Yeah, and maybe you guys
can get he's so young. Maybe guys can work on
their speed and get faster. And he also looked like
a healthy running back. He looked like a guy that
did not have a lot of tread on his tires.
They had a lot, rather a lot of tread on
his tires, and green Bay is going to be a much,

(03:42):
much stiffer challenge in that front of Arizona. Arizona's defense
did not play that well in that game, and Hughes
mentioned that too. I mean, yeah, we want to give
credit to the offensive line for being better. We want
to give Gino credit for making this right decision. We
want to give Zach Charmoney credit. But the fact of
the matter is Arizona's defense was bad, right, and so
green Bay is not going to be bad.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
This is going to be a massive test on Sunday. Now, well,
I'm curious to see how many Packer fans are in
the building. I'm expecting a lot. Yeah, I think you
are too. I think all of us are expecting a
lot of green Bay fans. And look, ay, anytime they've
played green may I mean you go back to like
the opener in twenty fourteen, after the Seahawks won the
Super Bowl, the twenty twelve Monday night game the fil Mary,

(04:23):
there's always Packer fans in the house.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
It's not different.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
But you you you said that you think the reason
why more fans are coming out is because tickets are
more readily available.

Speaker 6 (04:33):
That's one of the reasons that right. The other reason
is very simple, they're not thirteen and three everything.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
Yeah, well that's part of it.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
I also think a lot of those Packer fans, the
majority of them actually may live here, to be honest
with you, Yeah, but that is There's always been the case. Yeah,
So what's the difference then, I mean, you're talking about this.
I don't think there's game specifically on Sunday. I don't
think general will be I don't remember.

Speaker 4 (04:52):
I mean, I remember Packer fans being at those games
in twenty thirteen, twenty fourteen, but I don't remember him
taking over the stadium.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
I do, I remember, you really ton even the championship game. No,
I'm not the NFC championship game, of course, not because
tickets are more local. Fans are more fired up to
buy those tickets because it's the damn NFC championship game.
I think for this game on Sunday, I think a
lot of Seahawk fans are still kind of.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
Lukewarm about these guys. You know, they're eight and five.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
Yeah, they're in first place, but how good are they
Are they a championship team? They just fired their head coach.
I think a lot of people are still kind of
waiting to see what these guys are all about. And
if Mike McDonald pops and he ends up winning you know,
ten or eleven games this year and plays in the
NFC Championship, I think that dips down starting next year.
But I still think the Hawks are in kind of
a They're in kind of a reset mode right now.

(05:38):
I mean, do you sense that this town is as
fired up for Seahawk football as they were during the
heydays for Preez Carroll?

Speaker 2 (05:44):
But of course not.

Speaker 6 (05:45):
I think they're close.

Speaker 4 (05:46):
I'm surprised with how optimistic they are, though, I don't
get I don't get the vibe that there's a high
percentage of Seahawk fans are like, this.

Speaker 6 (05:55):
Team's a fraud, this team's just beating bad NFC wess teams.
I don't get that feeling at all.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
It's an opinion, though. I don't think a lot of
fans even have an opinion. Honestly, I think they're like, hell, whatever.

Speaker 4 (06:04):
Yeah, you know, I think you know, and they can
show me something this week. Beating the just the injury
riddled Niners a couple of weeks ago barely by three points,
beating Arizona twice with a team that just does not
look like a playoff team. I mean, that's nice, Yeah,
but this is an upgrade in competition.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
You can green Bay.

Speaker 4 (06:25):
Yeah, then you can legitimately say, hey, we are yes,
we are on the second tier of NFL teams, behind
the Detroits and the Buffaloes and the Kansas City.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
By the way, I just realized why there were so
many Mike Homger and autograph hounds here at the five
twenty tonight.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
He's a finalist for the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
That's exactly why, because that hasn't happened in a long
damn time. We're here every Thursday. We've been with Mike
every week at the Central Barn Restaurant for how many
years in a row. Come back to the no it
is packed. But those people aren't showing up for beers
and cocktails. They're showing up for him. Yeah, the guy's
a finalist for the damn Hall of Fame. And all
of a sudden, the autograph hounds are coming out bringing

(07:02):
sixteen freaking things for though.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
Those are the guys unbelievable.

Speaker 6 (07:05):
Man doesn't wanted to get in the Hall of Fame,
so we can sell.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
Them thousand thousand percent.

Speaker 1 (07:09):
All right, we're gonna break Chris Peterson, uh is gonna
join us. He might be in the College Football Hall
of Fame one day, probably will be. He'll join us
next on ninety three three KJRFM. No chance of you
coming out and seeing us in person, Coach.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
I kind of like that spot. I didn't know you
guys were hanging in tonight or might have been there.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
We are here.

Speaker 1 (07:29):
We are here at the five to twenty and bar
and Grill every Thursday. Mike Holmgrew was just here. He
took off a few minutes ago. He said to say, hello, So, uh,
anytime you want to come by, man, let us know.
But Hey, first of all, it's great, Damy back on
the show. We haven't spoken since the Apple Cup, and
how about we just go back and get some thoughts
on how things went for Jed Fish.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
He's got a game left in the Sun Bowl.

Speaker 1 (07:49):
But your take from your perspective on Washington football via
Excuse Me circa twenty twenty four after twelve games.

Speaker 3 (07:59):
Yeah, I think he's done a nice job. I think
the one thing that the average fan really doesn't know
is how difficult of a job that was Slash is
with the craziness that's going on in college football, you
know right now, and the fact that he got hired lads,

(08:22):
and you know, just how he had. I think there's
probably not a program in the country that lost as
much that was relevant in the national scene as Washington
And I think you know, when you look at all
the games and you go through them one by one,

(08:43):
there's probably one or two that I'm sure he'd like
to have, they'd all like to have back. But they
did a great job playing at home. The road was
a little bit of a different story. I think the
two games, you know, Washington State played really really well.
That John Matterier, he is a beast. He is a
fun competitor to watch. I think the one at Rutgers,

(09:06):
you know, but those are just growing pains when you're
building the program, and that's what he's doing, is he's
building the program. He's not just going to build the team.
And I think you saw it all year long, and
then I think if you look at the rest of
the schedule though, when you get you know, they beat
Michigan and then they go to Iowa, and I think
that's six straight emotional weeks of ball. And what I've

(09:27):
learned about that is if you can't if you don't
have enough talent to just beat him on talent, when
you're going six in a row, you're going to be
off some days, and I think that was one of
those days where they were just a little bit off
after six hard emotional then they get a buye and
then they play number eight Indiana, who was ranked higher

(09:48):
at the time. They beat sc Then they go back
on the road to Penn State, who's ranked four right now.
Then they beat UCLA, and then they played the number
one team in the country that you know, all on
the road, and so I think when you look at
it like that, they were all really competitive. You can
see what he's building and so I think he's done
a nice job, I really do in a super difficult environment.

Speaker 4 (10:10):
Right now, Coach, how do you feel that Jed handled
the will Rogers Demond Williams situation and kind of sprinkling
demand in for quite a few weeks and then naming
him the starter at the end.

Speaker 3 (10:23):
Yeah, well, I think it kind of goes back when
I was talking about he's building a program, not just
a team. You know. I think if you're just chips
in all on this season and try to just you know,
maximize every little thing we can get in the here
and now and not look at the longer range picture
of we have a star court, a superstar quarterback maybe

(10:44):
in the making that's young, and I want to bring
him along and develop him rather than just throw him
in there next year. So I think that that was
handled fine. I mean, those guys are very different will
Rogers and Demon Williams and the kind of use their
skill sets accordingly. But I think if you also look
at the you know, all the position groups, you see

(11:07):
that throughout they played a bunch of different combinations in
the line, some because of injury, but I think they
were testing the waters to find best combinations and develop guys,
and you can go through all their positions and I
think you see that, and that's what I'm talking about
building the program, right, And so you know, I don't
have a problem with it. I don't think that real
Rogers was looking over his shoulder earlier middle of the season.

(11:31):
I mean, and who knows what was actually said. I mean,
I think they were up front from the start that
this guy's going to play some and we're going to
bring him along. And you know, then I think it
when it got to the end of the season and
you know, they know they're going to a bowl game
and they go down to Oregon, I kind of think
about how gutsy that was to go down there and
start demand to the number one team in the country

(11:54):
at one of the most hostile environments around at Oregon.
To throw him in there, then, I mean, there's no
way you do that had you not got his feet
wet all throughout the year, And so I think it
was a pretty strategic plan what he was doing all along.

Speaker 1 (12:10):
Yeah, former UC Davis quarterback Chris Peterson as with us
on radio. Shit, Yes, Hey, how about them finding a
home in the Mountain West?

Speaker 2 (12:18):
You like that?

Speaker 3 (12:20):
Well, I do, but I think it's I think it's
their sports, except I don't think I'm not sure football is.

Speaker 1 (12:25):
Yeah, no, I know, I was starting to trick you,
no football, no football, but they're in the Mountain West.

Speaker 2 (12:30):
And everything else.

Speaker 1 (12:31):
Hey, coach, I got to ask you about this offensive
line at UDB and the defensive line. Really, I think
all of us realize that football is one of the trenches.
I mean, we saw that a year ago, for God's sakes,
were the best offensive line in college football. If you
were coaching at Washington now, let's just say you inherited
everything happening there today, how confident would you be, via

(12:51):
the portal, whatever the guys you have now on the roster,
that you can fix the offensive line to a significant
level where they would be by next year to go
toe to toe in the Big Ten.

Speaker 3 (13:04):
Well, I think they're going to get I think they're
going to be better. You know again, I'm not there
much at all. I don't see it day in and
day out, and I haven't even probably studied it like
you guys have. But what I do think is they
played a lot of young guys and they're building depth.
The O line is a developmental position and it takes

(13:28):
a minute to develop guys, and so that's where you
got to start young, and you got to keep them
in your program. Now, with the portal, I think you
go out and you get two to three guys that
you think can really help us right away. Looks like
Garon Hatchett. I think it's coming back.

Speaker 2 (13:42):
Yep.

Speaker 3 (13:42):
People stay healthy, that's going to be a nice piece.
And so you get two other guys with what they
have and you just keep develop them and then you've
got to have a little luck of staying healthy. And
that's a that's a tough position in terms of the
physical toll that it takes on their bodies. But you know,
I think with the transfer portal, you know you got
a shot to get some guys. I also think though

(14:03):
it's one of the harder positions because everybody's looking for
like I mean, I think everybody knows, like you know,
the teams that joined the Big Ten, I mean, the
number one things there is like, how do we look
like these guys, like the skilled guys, the quarterbacks, we
can get that done. The dvs, we can get that done.
How do we look like these guys in the trenches.

(14:24):
And I do think it's been proven that through development
we can find enough guys out here in the western
part of the United States to build a pre significant
O line. It is tougher to get those defensive linemen,
and so you're probably gonna have to spread your wings,
go a little bit more national and get it done
that way. But again, there's just not as much depth there.

(14:46):
But I think if you look back at past history,
you know you's had some pretty good d lines in
the past as well. So I think they know the
formula of the plan. They know they got to get bigger.
I think you see some of the young freshmen that
they've signed. Those guys are bigger, So they're not you know,
they know more than us that it needs to look

(15:07):
a little bit different than those trenches.

Speaker 4 (15:09):
Well, Coach Wall, we don't have an at Penn State
next year or an at Oregon next year. You are
facing five teams coming off of buys in next year's schedule.
Is that a real problem that the Huskies are gonna
be playing five games against teams coming off buys that week?

Speaker 6 (15:25):
Or is it one that's not.

Speaker 4 (15:26):
Really as big a deal as some people are making
it out to be.

Speaker 3 (15:31):
I'd be hot, That's all I'd say. I mean, five teams,
are you kidding me?

Speaker 5 (15:39):
You know?

Speaker 3 (15:39):
And again, sometimes you know it just depends. You know,
maybe you dub is coming off you know, a buy
themselves on one or two of them. I haven't seen
the schedule, but yeah, to have every team rested up
and if they got to travel. I mean, all that
happened that helps, and to have five of them, Yeah,
that looks like a scheduling flawed me.

Speaker 1 (16:01):
Well, Chris Peterson's with us on the radio show. I
long for the days for you to be hot again,
by the way, and fired up a bunch. So anytime
you want to just let the just vent on the air,
you can always come here and see us. And you know,
I'm curious about your take on the bracket. You know,
Oregon fans are up in arms don't like having to
face the winner of the Tennessee Ohio State game in

(16:21):
their first game. I just kind of feel like, hey,
whatever gets Oregon to lose. I'm a fan of that.
You know me well enough by now, But would you
be bothered by that if you were Dan Lanning? And
I mean, is it time for them to maybe change
that to avoid the number one seed having to have
that kind of road to the title.

Speaker 3 (16:38):
You know, when I look at this bracket, I just
love it, That's all I can say. I Mean, that's
what makes college football so kind of unique and different.
And I think everybody's so scared that we're heading towards
a mini NFL and it's just going to be exactly
the same. And look at this, and I see Boise

(17:02):
State with a bye, so they ranked third in this
this piece here, but really they're ranked nine overall, and
we see Arizona State getting a bye. That up to
the last two weeks of the season, nobody was even
talking about those guys for real. It's like, hey, they're
going to do with some things campskattabuo this, camp's skatabo that,

(17:25):
And now they're sitting there with a buye And so
I just kind of chuckle at the guys that put
this together, which is the commissioners of you know, the
ACC and the Big Ten and the Notre Dame people,
And I don't think they totally envisioned it going like this,
but as a fan, I'm going this is beautiful. And

(17:46):
for Oregon, they're sitting they're gonna have to face Ohio
State or Tennessee. Okay, well let's just place them where
Arizona State is at four. They're going to face the
winner of Texas Clemson. I think you assume it's going
to be Texas. Would you rather play Texas, Tennis, Ohio State,
I don't know, pick your poison. So you get a bye.
That's the most important thing. Whoever you're gonna play after

(18:07):
that is gonna be good or very hot. You know,
a hot team. If SMU knocked off Penn State, you know,
God bless them back there and the coldness the tundra,
which we don't think that would happen, but you know,
that's what I kind of think. When you have one
hundred and thirty four FBS teams, ten leagues plus Notre

(18:28):
Dame doing their own thing, and you're trying to create
this perfect system, it's not going to happen. I think
what a lot of people don't want to see is
it all being all Big ten, all SEC and everybody
else is blocked out. So this kind of to me
is intriguing. You still got four Big ten teams in there,
you still got three SEC teams. I think most people

(18:49):
thought at the starting of the season those numbers might
be reversed, that you get four SEC teams and maybe
three Big ten and there's you know, it was this
close to having four SEC teams and one ACC team,
you know, or Clemson kind of upset to apple Cart
and Alabama would have gone in there, and they almost

(19:11):
did with three losses, and so I just think it's
intriguing when you look at all this stuff, and I
think it's fascinating, and I think it's all going to
come out in the wash at the end of the day,
at the champion being who it really should be. But
they're sure as a heck of a lot of intrigue
as we look at this thing.

Speaker 4 (19:28):
Coach, should we be worried because Alabama didn't get in
that the SEC and the powers that be down there
are going to say, forget this, we are playing nobody
in non conference. We are just going to get our
four wins and there are five wins, and then take
our chances at not having three losses in conference.

Speaker 3 (19:45):
Well, like I said, I mean, it's not even apples
to apples. You know, they have a hard schedule, there's
no question, but they also play what eight league games
where everybody else is playing nine and Notre Dame plays
no league games. So what is that? They're the ones
that I always have the hardest I'm judging, So you know,
I think when you look at who's in, I don't

(20:05):
think that's going to be their huge complaint. I think
when you look at the bracket, you see, you know,
Oregon one Okay, I can go with that. Georgia two, Okay,
I can go with that. BOYD say three, I'm not
down with that if I'm these other guys Arizona State,
who I'm not down right. So that's where I think

(20:27):
they might have a problem going, wait, what are we
doing here? But I like it for this college football
craziness and mess that we're all in with it right now.

Speaker 2 (20:36):
Anyways, Well, we talked about this there day.

Speaker 1 (20:40):
Coach Chris Peterson's with us, and as long as you
give the top four highest ranked conference champions buys, this
is going to potentially happen. Would you be in favor
of getting rid of that where there's automatic buys for
the top four conference champs and just say, hey, the
top four buys go to the top four teams period
in the rankings? Or do you like the way it's
set up now?

Speaker 3 (21:01):
I mean, I think when you just put it down
on paper and you kind of think about fairness, yep,
and you go, Okay, Oregon's ranked one, Georgia's two, Texas three,
Penn State four, Notre Dame's five. So you know, whether
you flip those or not, I don't know. I mean
that that kind of seems like, okay, that's fair. But
you know what nobody's talking about right now, the committee's

(21:23):
ranking of these guys. You know, they are towards the
tail end, which should Alabama be in, should have been SMU,
but no one really even cares about, like, oh, Georgie's two,
you know, Penn State four, Notre Dame's five, Ohio State six.
No one's even talking about that. Now, if you do
do it that way, now these rankings become so critically

(21:47):
important and analyzed and complained about any way you cut it,
there is going to be complaining.

Speaker 4 (21:54):
Well, coach, you definitely saw this coming as far as
college football and all these changes that we have seen
over the last five years. But did even you see
the extent that this inferno would be a blaze that
is college football since like twenty twenty.

Speaker 3 (22:10):
It's crazy. I mean I wish I was, like really,
you know, if I was really that smart, there's no
chance in the world I'd be sitting here talking to
you two guys. I mean, you know, do a really
really big thing. You know, like we always say, sometimes
it's just better to be lucky than good. But you know,
I don't really see this. You know, the conversation we

(22:33):
were just having with the playoffs, is that being anangative.
I think this is a positive. We've been all waiting
for something like this for a long time now. Whether
it gets tweaked and all that, you know, we'll we'll
see here in the next year a couple of years
to come. But all the other stuff is still a
complete mess, and there is no doubt about it. And

(22:54):
I don't care, like I think everyone's fine with paying
the players, although I will tell you this, there is
a lot of average to poor players. They're going to
be getting a lot of money. I mean, it's just like, wait,
what this guy's getting this much? I mean you just
shake your head, like I know what a good player
looks like, and I know what a really average player
to poor player, and these guys are getting money that's

(23:18):
and a decent amount. And that's kind of hard for
everybody rapping. I think that's one of the big complaints
that a lot of coaches have right now. But it's
just like, that's what the market is. At the fact
that your whole team's walking out of your locker room
when you haven't even finished bowl games and all this
kind of stuff, you know, it's just a mess. And
you know, and that's where like this Congress thing, you know,

(23:38):
where everybody was saying, hey, they want to you know,
first and foremost, they wanted to go to Congress and
get help with it. And everyone's like, good luck with that.
I mean, we can't even you know, they got bigger
fish to fry. But let's not forget when the NFL
got this thing straightened out. How they have their nice
little system. I think it was Pete Roselle. He went,
they went to Congress and they got it done, gave

(24:00):
them an exemption to get all this collective bargaining and
all this to not play by the exact same rules
that all these businesses have to play by. And so
that's what you could see, like, well that was the
first thought, because this is just a different beast as well,
and everybody's trying to preserve at least some integrity into
the game, and right now there's not much.

Speaker 1 (24:19):
Yeah, well, I think you'd hate working right now. I
think you I think you know you made the right
call doing what you're doing. And I got to ask
you put your commentator hat on, Chris before you go.
Chris Peterson new Heisel was with us a couple hours ago,
and I want to ask you the same question I
asked him. Right with the Huskies out of it this year,
my main motivation is beaten Oregon and keeping those you

(24:41):
know what's out of the national championship and keeping that
trophy out of Austiny.

Speaker 2 (24:45):
You you work down there one day, maybe you're rooting form.

Speaker 1 (24:48):
I got the idea, what team would you least want
to face Tennessee, Ohio State, maybe Clemson or Texas in
the semi final, Georgia and the national champion Penn State.

Speaker 2 (25:01):
Again, give us a thought.

Speaker 1 (25:03):
On that that that one team that you think is
most equipped to beat Oregon.

Speaker 3 (25:08):
You know that is a great question. And I don't
really have the answer to that. I just don't. I
would have probably said Georgia before the quarterback got hurt,
Carson Beck, and you know just how they're built and
all that, and so so I don't know what that's
going to look like. I think Notre Dame is a

(25:31):
really interesting team, but I'm not sure if the quarterback
plays high enough. Penn State to me still seems like
they maybe haven't put truely their best foot forward. I
will say this, I did kind of study the Tennessee
team when they played Alabama and beat those guys, because
I was like, what happened? I want to see this?

(25:53):
And those guys are very nasty on defense. I will
tell you that that was like, oh, okay, I get it.
These guys are quick, agile, I mean tough, and so
that they're kind of an interesting one. And then again,
you you you kind of got Texas laying there that
you know has done a really nice job. And that's

(26:16):
what I love about this tournament. So I can't answer
that question. Tell you too, I do think Oregon's kind
of in the driver's seat. I don't know, you know,
I don't know the best team that could to knock
those guys off, But I think this thing is going
to turn out different than we all think. That's that's
what I do think.

Speaker 4 (26:33):
Coach, before I let you go, Bill Belichick has joined
your fraternity of college football head coaches.

Speaker 2 (26:37):
Your thoughts.

Speaker 3 (26:40):
I am so so intrigued by this. Yeah, I don't
get it. I you know, I heard his press conference
and you know it's like, you know, I just love
coaching players. I just love strategizing. I love working with coaches.

(27:03):
I love connecting to players, and I'm thinking, okay, great,
well you're really not doing any of that? Is that
like you're not going to be doing very much of that.
That's why the NFL right now is so much more
appealing to so many coaches because you do coach and
you do you know all those things that he's talking
about where you know it's the head coach and I

(27:24):
know he's going to put a heck of a staff
together and you know it's going to handle some of
this administrative stuff. But it's like the way it's set up,
and that the transient nature of that locker room, and
you know how much you got to pay these guys
to get a real legitimate roster. That's what I'm intrigued by.

(27:45):
Like so all of a sudden, you know, North Carolina
has always been talked about is a pretty good job.
But you know, one of Mac Brown's gigs complaint was
we need more money to really compete with nil. Right,
you don't have it right now. Paying the coach ten
million a year plus the staff, plus they're gonna get
rid of all those guys and now they're gonna be

(28:07):
all in on football. And you know, twenty million dollars
in the uh, the bargain collective bargain, Like, how all
of a sudden did that happen?

Speaker 4 (28:16):
You know?

Speaker 3 (28:16):
I mean, I just think it's just the whole thing
is just very fascinating. I mean, there's no doubt you
can coach. The people that he's gonna hire are gonna
be spectacular. But I'm just intrigued and I cannot wait
to watch it.

Speaker 2 (28:32):
I'm with you, totally with you.

Speaker 1 (28:33):
Hey, you have a great holiday, all right, great to
hear your voice any time you want to jump on
the air with us, or come down hang out with
us at a five twenty bar and grill. Uh do
it because we're here every Thursday. All right, swing on over,
you know what, Come come hang out with us in
person once.

Speaker 2 (28:47):
How does that sound?

Speaker 3 (28:50):
Will you buy me a hamburger?

Speaker 1 (28:51):
Yes, I'll buy you a hamburger? And you can and
you can even take one home to George. How's the
dog doing?

Speaker 3 (28:58):
George is doing on your phone? He's got no stress.
I wish I was more like George, even though I
got a lot less stress. I want George's stress.

Speaker 1 (29:06):
No doubt, no doubt. Hey, Chris, thanks for doing this.
We'll talk soon, buddy, appreciate you.

Speaker 3 (29:10):
Yeah, happy all day you tube man.

Speaker 2 (29:51):
How are you, fella? I'm doing well.

Speaker 5 (29:53):
Guys, how are you today?

Speaker 1 (29:55):
We got a couple of minutes here to get your thoughts.
That a big matchup, hey, so explain this to me.
So Jim and Gumrie gets fired and they go seven
to three and three. Ever since they whacked the guy
and Jiff Montgomery is now the coach of the Saint
Louis Blues.

Speaker 2 (30:08):
Do I have that right?

Speaker 3 (30:09):
Yeah?

Speaker 7 (30:09):
Yes, you do that.

Speaker 6 (30:10):
Is correct.

Speaker 2 (30:11):
Okay, how does that happen?

Speaker 1 (30:13):
Where a guy gets fired into a week whatever later
he's the coach of a different team in the same league.

Speaker 2 (30:18):
How unique is that?

Speaker 3 (30:20):
You know what?

Speaker 7 (30:21):
I think it's unique simply because if you look at
the record of Boston, how well they've played the last
few years. This is a good coach and for whatever reason,
his message fell on deaf ears. It's gonna say Andy
Reid's a bad coach because he had a couple of
bad years. But hey, maybe his message fell on deaf ears.
So we're gonna fire Andy Reid. And I promise you

(30:41):
thirty other teams are probably gonna think about firing their
coach to pick up Andy Reid.

Speaker 2 (30:46):
Midway through the year.

Speaker 4 (30:48):
Got a long stretch where you have a bunch of
games at home followed by a bunch of games on
the road. You have a goal kind of in mind.
You obviously seeded in that road trip. How about this
homestand is there a goal for this team in these
four games?

Speaker 2 (31:00):
I think the goal is to get great Christmas.

Speaker 1 (31:02):
If we don't talk soon and we'll we'll catch up
down the road. Budd appreciate it. Pout all right, fella's
take care you gott it ever fits you with us
on the radio show for a quick hitter from Climate
Pledge Arena Cracking Bruins. Pregame at six point thirty, face
off at seven o'clock.
