get to Mike Benton and the Crack in Colorado two
nights a little fun with audio slash.

Speaker 3 (03:24):
Hey did you hear that? Hey, Dick, did you happen
to hear that? What's that? Dick? It's a Monday press conference.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
Yesterday, after getting shut out by the Eagles, Raiders head
coach Pete Carroll was asked if he feels like he's
coaching for his job.

Speaker 5 (03:39):
Three weeks of the season.

Speaker 3 (03:41):
Do you feel like you're coaching for your job?

Speaker 5 (03:43):
I wonder how kind of like? No, I don't feel
like that at all. I really don't. I don't. I'm
well beyond that, I don't feel like that.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
Would you be willing to overseer?

Speaker 6 (03:55):
Well, it's looking like, that's what's necessary. You know, we
need to keep working to get better. And then that's
in all areas, all aspects of what we're doing. I
came in here thinking that we were going to turn
it right away. I really did anticipated doing that, and
that's not what's taking place.

Speaker 7 (04:08):
Unfortunately, there's an evaluation of the challenges was just off
would not be able.

Speaker 8 (04:16):
I blindly optimistic as I am, you know, I thought
we would come in here and we'd have a big
factor in this club and we would be able to,
you know, find success that we would be proud of.

Speaker 5 (04:26):
And right now it doesn't feel like that.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
Let me ask you a question.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
Yeah, when was the last time Pete Carroll was asked
if he's coaching.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
For his job? Maybe three years ago? Do you think
he was asked? Probably not asked. Yeah, he was thought about.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
I don't think he was asked by anybody going back
to his Jet days.

Speaker 3 (04:45):
Jet days. That's probably right, New England.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
I'm literally thinking about the last time a reporter asked
him in a press conference.

Speaker 3 (04:52):
It's been thirty years.

Speaker 4 (04:53):
Well, because I thought the answer out of his mouth
would have been our One of our favorite drops is
why are you asking me? This question, right, I mean, either,
hey you.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
That would have been very, very, very funny if he
would have said, why are you asking me that question?
You know, it would have been even funnier than that is,
if you would have told me, and I would have
had the drop.

Speaker 3 (05:14):
I tried to do. I was waving you down and
you kind of.

Speaker 2 (05:16):
Because don't forget, I'm in softy land. Yeah, he doesn't
need to answer that question, Dick, I.

Speaker 5 (05:21):
Don't want to answer this question.

Speaker 3 (05:22):
Oh jeez. I mean, do you feel bad for the
guy at all? Feel bad for him?

Speaker 7 (05:25):
No?

Speaker 4 (05:26):
I don't feel bad for him. I mean, I like
Pete Carroll, but I don't feel feel bad. He's gone
there and he's done it, done a terrible job.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
Well, let me ask you a question. Uh, who's the
general manager of the Raiders? Because they have it, They
actually have a GM, right?

Speaker 3 (05:41):
Is he?

Speaker 2 (05:41):
Is he totally in charge? John Spytek is the guy? Remember,
he has done a terrible job. Well, that's my point.
Who's done a worst job?

Speaker 3 (05:48):
Is it all?

Speaker 2 (05:49):
Is this about roster construction or is this about Pete
Carroll's coaching because the roster looks terrible?

Speaker 3 (05:57):
Right? Yeah? But how did they win twice? As many
games last year. I don't know.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
I have no idea what their roster looks like now
compared to a year ago. I know Gino Smith has
been terrible the entire season, right, I guess my question
is does this show that Pete Carroll has lost his touch?

Speaker 3 (06:12):
The old man can't coach? They won? What do you
blame spy tech for putting together a terrible roster?

Speaker 4 (06:17):
They won twice as many games last year with Gardner
Minshew right and Aidan O'Connell.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
What did their roster look like around them compared to
what they have now? They didn't have asked gent last year? Right,
but that's one guy who's a rookie who's never played
in the NFL. What's their offensive line look like compared
to last year?

Speaker 3 (06:33):
I have no idea.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
Sawers has regressed. What's their coaching? What's their defensive line
look like compared to last year? Look, you guys, I'm
not I'm just asking the question. I don't want to
dismiss anything. Is this a Pete Carroll problem? Is it
a roster construction problem? Or is it a real combination
of both. Right down the middle, when you're two and fifteen,
it's an everybody. Yeah, well, I still probably finished. I

(06:54):
don't know if Pete Carroll all of a sudden is
a two and fifteen coach in the NFL.

Speaker 3 (07:00):
Some of this has got to be his roster.

Speaker 2 (07:02):
Sure, And it sounds to me that Gino Smith has
really let him down with the way he's played football
this year. He gave Gino Smith thirty five million bucks
and he stinks terrible. All right, Hey, Dick, did you
happen to hear that? What's that?

Speaker 3 (07:15):
Dick? All right, let's go to number three.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
On the Next Round podcast, Fox College Football analyst Joe
Klatt talks about why he doesn't like the group of
five automatic bid in the CFP.

Speaker 9 (07:28):
The reason the group of five is included in this
playoff is to avoid antitrust litigation. That's it, guys, like
we're not looking for a Cinderella. Nobody cares in football
about James Madison or you know, the equivalent of George
Mason going didn't George Mason go to the Final four
or something like that. Nobody cares in football about that.
We don't want cinderellas. We want the best teams playing

(07:50):
each other at the end. In fact, hot take, I
mean like the hottest of all takes that I've ever
had in my entire life. The NCAA Basketball tournam It
is a joke. It's it's the it's the dumbest tournament
and the least fair tournament in all of sports. We
go and we put we put teams at odd times
on neutral sites in a one game affair like that

(08:13):
doesn't crown a true champion.

Speaker 3 (08:16):
Mm hmm. He lost me on the college basketball tournament thing.

Speaker 4 (08:19):
Well, he's right, it does not crown a true chop.
It's called all playoffs, guys.

Speaker 3 (08:24):
Yeah, yeah, we've known that forever.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
If you want to crown a true champ and do
it the way they do in England in the EPL, yes,
and that's what it's going to bring up. Play the
regular season and just give out a trophy and then
you're done. But that's not fun. Nobody wants to see that.
To his Do you want to see that here in America?

Speaker 3 (08:41):
Dick?

Speaker 5 (08:41):
No?

Speaker 2 (08:41):
How about how about the NFL three weeks from now,
whoever has the best record wins and if they're tied, well,
it's point differential.

Speaker 4 (08:48):
We the rams might be difference says that every team
plays every team in the EPL that's why.

Speaker 2 (08:53):
Well, yeah, I think Look in this country, okay, we
do things the right way. In this country, we have
a playoff formats, not like those bums in Britain. Okay,
in this country we do it right.

Speaker 4 (09:04):
But to his point on the college basketball the Atlantic
Sun champion can beat three or four major conference teams
and get to the Elite eight. Absolutely, James Madison cannot
beat Oregon.

Speaker 3 (09:18):
That's right. Well, they might, we might be.

Speaker 2 (09:20):
We might see one upset, but you could see multiple
upsets in college basketball in the same year in the tournament.
And the reason why is because college basketball can be
greatly influenced by one person one that's right.

Speaker 3 (09:34):
That's right.

Speaker 2 (09:35):
Football will never ever be like that unless you have
a elite historical performance.

Speaker 4 (09:40):
I read an article today where Oregon's defensive coordinator, yes,
makes more money Tosh leupoyt Yes, than James Madison's head
coach and their entire roster.

Speaker 2 (09:51):
I agree with you that Oregon is not going to
lose to JMU, but I'll laugh my balls off if
it happens, eyeballs off.

Speaker 4 (09:59):
It would be so much better than them losing to
Ohio State last year because it was Ohio State.

Speaker 3 (10:03):
This would be James Madison.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
I think if Oregon loses to James Madison, they should
go on probation self and post probation. I agree, we're
just not gonna play. We're gonna We're gonna take two
years off. We don't deserve to play this game after
that performance. All right, Hey, Dick, did you happen to
hear that?

Speaker 3 (10:18):
What's that? Dick? What do you think? Uh?

Speaker 2 (10:21):
You want to hear from Frank Fleming? This is the
Mets fan.

Speaker 3 (10:25):
Right the tank?

Speaker 4 (10:25):
Oh yeah, he's also a big Dolphins fan. Really, yes,
he's a big dog. Come on, he is. He's doing
this act for multiple teams.

Speaker 3 (10:32):
Act.

Speaker 4 (10:33):
Well, no, he's a Dolphins fan for football and he's
a Jets Mets fan for baseball.

Speaker 3 (10:38):
Why is that an act?

Speaker 2 (10:39):
Because I don't think we should get to hear from
him if it's not Mets related, because it cheapens it.

Speaker 3 (10:46):
Are you kidding me? Why does it cheapen? Ever? You
have an opinion about the Seahawks, I'm not going on
the air losing my damn diad. Yeah, he's losing his mind.
He starts very calm in.

Speaker 2 (10:57):
This Okay, fine, after getting eliminated from playoff can attention.
Last night, Frank Fleming, a viral Dolphins fan with barstool,
who's by the way, known more for being a crazy
met fan, took the social media to give his eulogy
on the twenty five Miami Dolphins.

Speaker 3 (11:11):
Well, all the hope was false.

Speaker 10 (11:14):
Come on, a two and seventeam was never going to
make the playoffs. I mean, come on, and look what
he except for the Bills. Look what the beat. They
beat the Saints, one of the worst teams in the league.
They beat the Commanders, one of the worst teams in
the league, and they beat the Jets, one of the
worst teams in the league. They also have a win
against the Falcons and other team that really can sucks

(11:36):
and the other winners against the Jets.

Speaker 5 (11:38):
So what do you expect?

Speaker 10 (11:39):
This team is never good. And then you got you got.
You add the fact that they're playing in cold weather
and Mike McDaniel, and they decided to be a genius
and go back to Tu's throwing the ball ninety times.
Tua Is is one of the worst quarterbacks in the league.
He is pure trash. And there you have it.

Speaker 3 (12:00):
That doesn't even sound like the same guy. That's because
he's he was this is calm voice.

Speaker 2 (12:05):
Well, what's the point of hearing him if he's going
to be calm, isn't the whole point to hear him
bust a blood vessel and los his mind?

Speaker 3 (12:12):
Kind of think it was funny that he called to
a trash. Yeah you like that because you've hated to
it for years? Oh you were what else? What else
were you right about? Dick? Go ahead and tell people
was telling you.

Speaker 4 (12:21):
Was I right or wrong on two of him five
years ago when I could not believe they paid him.

Speaker 2 (12:26):
I think you were right about the money they paid him.
I thought you were premature in calling him trash. Then
my premiature got premature now calling him trash. First of all,
he came off a year where he led the NFL
in passing yards number one, number two. I also I
also wonder if he's got the wrong coach. I mean,
he's hurt now, he's had multiple concussions, his brain has
turned into oatmeal. But I wonder if he's got the
wrong coach. I think he's a starter in honestly, I

(12:48):
just don't think he's a starting with him, not with him,
he's not. But people said the same stuff about Daniel Jones,
Baker Mayfield, Sam.

Speaker 3 (12:56):
Darnold, a lot of guys.

Speaker 2 (12:57):
And I just wonder if this is another example a
guy who's got the wrong coach, and if he played
for somebody else, would he be a better player.

Speaker 3 (13:04):
I don't know, Maybe he'd be just as terrible.

Speaker 2 (13:06):
But the guy did look pretty good a couple of
years ago and now is awful. So if you're telling
me you want credit for predicting his downfall, I will
give you credit for that.

Speaker 5 (13:17):
Well.

Speaker 3 (13:17):
I just don't think he was ever very good. I
don't think he's.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
Ever called him garbage when he led the NFL in
passing yards, and I thought that was a little bit
premature because I think passing yards are a good indicator
of whether you're a great quarterback, and it indicates usually
that you're.

Speaker 3 (13:32):
Behind a lot and throwing lots of passes. Okay, all right,
that's I mean, That's that's all I'm saying. All Right,
I mean, did you ever have a great QBR or
passer rating? I don't know, I don't know, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (13:44):
I just think I think that you were very, very
very hard on a guy who led the NFL in
passing yard. I was, I think there's nobody on this
radio station that loves being right more than you.

Speaker 3 (13:54):
Well, is there anything else you would like credit for?
We're at it. No, because I know that you get
very No. No, I'm good.

Speaker 4 (14:03):
We are not allowed to say on this radio show
when we are right without getting penalized, not even remotely true.

Speaker 2 (14:10):
Well, I just because you've been doing it for three minutes.
Who's getting penalized?

Speaker 3 (14:14):
I've been doing it. You've been talking for the last
two minutes. I'm asking you what else you want credit for?

Speaker 2 (14:19):
Nothing?

Speaker 3 (14:19):
This is a great opportunity. No, we're talking about Tua
here giving you a shot. Brought that up. You're gonna
take it. No, okay, because that wasn't. My point wasn't
to say I was right about it.

Speaker 4 (14:32):
My point was because it was My point was funny
because he was trashing on two guy that I never liked.

Speaker 2 (14:37):
All Right, here we go, let's get a couple more. Hey, Dick,
did you happen to hear that day?

Speaker 3 (14:41):
What's that? Dick?

Speaker 2 (14:42):
Let's go to number seven Andrews. Alabama head coach Kalin
de Moore addressed the rumors of him leaving for the
Michigan Job and its press conference on Monday and yesterday.

Speaker 7 (14:53):
I just first of all, our guys handled distractions phenomenalies
then that way all season long. They continue to do that,
and so but I also, you know, knew that yesterday
and today was pretty important.

Speaker 5 (15:04):
I was going to see it till today to addresses.

Speaker 7 (15:07):
So that's why I put that out there. A lot
of same things I said before, you know, a couple
of weeks ago and asked really the same question.

Speaker 5 (15:13):
Just, you know, feel completely supported.

Speaker 7 (15:16):
My family loves living here, just all the things that
we continue to build on, love the progress.

Speaker 5 (15:23):
Haven't talked with anyone who plans for talking with anyone.
So just I think that's you know, a lot.

Speaker 7 (15:28):
Of what I said a couple of weeks ago and
continues to be the same thing.

Speaker 2 (15:31):
So what could a coach say that would literally get
you to say, you know what, I believe that guy.
He's not going anywhere.

Speaker 3 (15:39):
I've signed a new contract.

Speaker 2 (15:41):
I've signed a new contract with a fifty million dollar buyer.
I mean, honestly, because we keep hearing all these coaches
Jed Dillingham, Harbaugh, Kiffin, right, whoever, and nobody believes anything.
So what's the point of even asking the question. If
nobody's going to believe the answer, what could they say
to get you to believe.

Speaker 3 (15:59):
I think if you.

Speaker 4 (16:00):
Have a track record of not jumping around, then I
think you believed more than if you have a track
record of jump around.

Speaker 3 (16:07):
But there isn't anymore. It's true.

Speaker 2 (16:09):
I like that's fair, though, because Kaylen has a track record,
Jed's got a track record, Kiffin's got a track record.
If Ryan Day, for example, was asked right, I'm not
going anywhere, you're kidding me. I love it here. Give
me an extension.

Speaker 3 (16:22):
It's easier. I agree to believe him. I think Kaylen
should be at Michigan.

Speaker 4 (16:26):
I like Kaylan, but and there is a morbid part
of me that wants to see Oklahoma beat Alabama by
three touchdowns and just see what happens in Tuscaloose, Alabama.
I just want to see, Like He's all, I love
it here, my family loves it here. Let's see next
week if it's twenty eight to ten.

Speaker 3 (16:45):
I think you know what would happen if that happened?
What would happen?

Speaker 8 (16:50):
Boy?

Speaker 3 (16:52):
Don't even bother? Well pack your bags for you? I mean,
are you kidding? Me, they'd fire him. Where's that game?
That game's in Norman, right, they would fire him? No,
I don't well, I don't.

Speaker 2 (17:07):
Think anything's off the table, man, But I would say no,
but may and you would not be shocked if they did.
Right now, could anything surprise you in college football?

Speaker 3 (17:16):
All right, let's do it. Let's get to it.

Speaker 2 (17:18):
The Kracking and the Colorado Avalanche coming up tonight, joining
us right now on the radio show.

Speaker 3 (17:24):
I know one thing.

Speaker 2 (17:25):
If the Crack and lose tonight, Mike Benton is not
getting fired. Can guarantee you that now they lose again
after this, it might be time to clean up.

Speaker 3 (17:32):
God Benon's fault.

Speaker 2 (17:33):
They can't score a goal? Well, is it Benton's fault?
Or is it roster construction? Like the Raiders and Pete Carroll?
Here he is joining us from Climate Pledge Arena on
the concourse. Our friend, Michael Benton, how.

Speaker 3 (17:44):
Are you pal?

Speaker 1 (17:45):
I think it's all your fault, Softy.

Speaker 3 (17:46):
That's fine, I'll take I'll take one for the team.
I don't know what I did.

Speaker 1 (17:49):
Not announced yet that you are not going to Michigan either.
It's true.

Speaker 3 (17:53):
I can't. I just want to stay here forever.

Speaker 5 (17:58):
Family, loves it here.

Speaker 2 (18:00):
You just got to take care of the people that
are around me. Man, if Dick wants to go to
Michigan against We're going to Michigan.

Speaker 3 (18:05):
Books are all day to day, aren't we all? All right?

Speaker 2 (18:07):
So we haven't talked in a while, man, I mean, look,
just when you think you're getting a little bit of
positive energy and kind of it's like one step forward,
two steps back.

Speaker 3 (18:14):
What's going on.

Speaker 1 (18:15):
It's tough because I explained this earlier to Greg Bell today,
and I think a lot of the issues that this
team was going through were covered up, and I think
massive bit by goaltending, and I think now with a
few bodies out of the line of I mean you
hate to use that excuse, but I mean taking Jayden
Schwartz out, taking Jared mccannal due to injuries, that's about
seventeen percent of your goal scoring production. So when you

(18:38):
have a team that's built to win two, one, three,
two and not so much rip off five, six, even
seven goals a game, I mean, the margin for air
just incredibly shrinks. And then when you had a penalty
kill that was just on the struggle bus until about
roughly a few games ago. I mean that just really
really sets you back. So I mean this is a very,

(18:58):
very h dangerous time right now where they've got to
get wins, get them quick, and they don't get much
tougher here than Colorado.

Speaker 3 (19:05):
Guys. Yeah, that's right.

Speaker 4 (19:06):
I was gonna ask about the schedule. I mean, when
does the schedule lighten up a little bit? When do
we have a run against like Toronto and Buffalo and
