Speaker 1 (00:01):
Today's Daily Highlight from Elvis Duran in the Morning Show.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
I live out in western New Jersey, going to Pennsylvania
all the time. The Amish community is very much vibrant
and hanging out and doing their thing, and we love
to support because they have some of the best food
and the best culture, and they make this area so
well rounded and even all the way across the country.
You go out to Cleveland, for instance. Outside of Cleveland,

(00:26):
there's a big Amish population there, and our friend Melinda
is living right in the middle of that area, and
she's on the phone with us. I say hi to Melinda. Hi, Melinda,
welcome to Friday. How you doing.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
Hi, I'm good. Why are you guys?

Speaker 2 (00:40):
We're great and I love that you're on with us now.
So okay, Melinda's on a flip phone. And by the way,
this is the clearest phone call we've had all day, because.

Speaker 1 (00:52):
That's pretty amazing.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
Well, seriously, the newer digital phones they don't come through
is loud, and we don't know why they just don't.
But anyway, thank you for coming on with us. You
actually sent us a message earlier. What was the message, Nate?
Do you remember she was talking? She was referencing the
conversation we were having about being unable to escape the
media because of what we do, and she says it's

(01:14):
very easy for her because all she has is an
old school flip foot nice that it doesn't get inundated
with stuff all day. So in your life, in your
daily routine, you're not surrounded by all of this incoming
information from news sources and streaming international that kind of stuff.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
Right, I mean we do, like, of course I do
hear the news because of my line of work that
I have. I cleaned houses, so I once I get
to my houses and everything, like they might have the
news on, don't want to say leave. They turn it off,
and then it is my choice to turn it back
on if I lunch with that. Usually I don't.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
Wow. Good decision, by the way, very smart decision. Well,
so you hear us on the show talking about how
we're over inundated with all this information negative stuff. Sometimes
it's positive this and that, And you don't really have
to swim in that water. You are living alive because
you're being amish where you don't, you don't have that

(02:15):
bashing you upside the.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
Head everything and actually, like you know, during COVID and
all that stuff. Like we were we were completely completely
cut off because I did not work at that time,
so we had no way of knowing really anything like
we had. Uh there was I know there was a
judge in our community that would bring information out to

(02:37):
the honors and then the honors would pass it on
to one another. But that was like the only way
we found out about anything during COVID.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
Wow, good, good for you. And uh So I've been trying,
and especially yesterday because yesterday was a very heavy day
in the news. I don't know if you're very aware
of what's going on, but I decided yesterday fornoon just
to turn it all off, and I woke up this
morning in the best mood. It was like, Okay, you know,

(03:04):
I think my news today is well, I need to
let the dogs out, I need to go feed the dogs,
and I need to water a plant. That was my
news today, and I feel okay with that. Do you
sometimes wish you heard more? Are you okay with the
level of information you do receive?

Speaker 1 (03:22):
Oh? I'm definitely okay with a lot of information I
received it. So I have had like yesterday, after hearing
about everything I was, I was on social media quite
a bit with my job, and it just I got
to the point where I was so depressed I said this,
I can do this now today. I have no plans
on working at anything on the news or anything. I'm

(03:43):
just gonna go and I'm going to listen to my
news and Queen.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
That's it. So I'm hoping that the most negative thing
you hear today is us.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
That's not even negative. You guys are like the best thing.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
I appreciate that. Hey, any questions from Melinda, anyone, any thoughts?

Speaker 3 (04:01):
Yeah, you do a lot of your community members listen
to our show.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
So I am probably the only one in my community
that listens to you guys, because there's a lot of
people that don't listen to the radios. I'm a living there.
I kind of don't follow the shows. I guess, Oh,
is it.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
Looked down on that you do listen to the radio
or do you keep it to yourself?

Speaker 1 (04:26):
Time a few time time? Who knows about it?

Speaker 2 (04:28):
You're not hearing it? Okay, okay, yeah they're not. They
don't hear you now, So I think you're safe. So
you're you're sort of a rebel. So you were you
were I guess I'm assuming you were walking sort of
in between you're you're I'm sure you definitely lean more
toward your heritage, in your in your faith and you
and I'm glad you do, but absolutely, but you know,

(04:50):
you do kind of keep an eye over the fence
to see what's going on from time to time, and
do you do you find your your life is well
rounded and you're totally happy with it.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
I am charge for happy with my life and it is.
Sorry for my family, it's a little bit different because
I do have a family members out last the Homish
years a day, so we do, Sir, spend time with
them right there, live in South Carolina, so we go
down to visit them all the time starts. For my family,
it is a little difference because I do have family
members outside the Homish community.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
Okay, okay, so you know you know a lot about
what's going on in the world, you'd probably but probably
to take that a step further, you know enough, I guess,
is what I'm trying to say. If we were having
that argument, not argument, that conversation earlier, Melinda about how
much is too much and if you don't get that
daily input of news, do you feel like you're shirking

(05:44):
responsibility as a person in the media and whatever. I'm
starting to think No, I'd rather do a fun show
by being a little well, just not connected with the
outside world. I don't know, Nate, what do you think?

Speaker 3 (05:58):
Here's a question for you, Melinda, since you kind of
walk the line and you kind of do know what's
going on in the world, but you have community members
that don't have any idea, do you think they are
happier in comparison to people that know what's going on
in the grander scheme of things? Hello?

Speaker 2 (06:18):
Hello, are you there? My question? No, not at all, Melinda,
are you there? Okay? Well call dropped? Is a call
drop Maybe they're okay. Well, look what we did speak
to Melinda about I thought was fascinating. Yeah. Absolutely. And

(06:39):
how can you to your question, Nate? I mean, how
can you determine whether you're happier or not because you
don't have those things coming at you, you're unhappy, if
unhappy at all, over different reasons, right, I guess the
question would be from her observations to the people that
don't pay attention to that stuff in the homage community,

(06:59):
do you think they're happier as a result.

Speaker 3 (07:01):
Right, Yeah, I don't know. Sometimes I don't.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
You and I have this conversation all the time.

Speaker 3 (07:06):
I was like, let's just you go to the pipeline
where nobody can find us and nobody knows what's going on,
and we'll be much happier.

Speaker 2 (07:14):
Well we think we will. But then it's all it's
then here comes that line. Well it's all you know, relative,
I mean, you know it's relevant and relative.

Speaker 4 (07:21):
I wanted to know about that rump Springer. Remember that
where they were with I think they're sixteen or eighteen,
and you're allowed to go out and like see what
else is out there and decide whether you want to
come back to the homish community, and some of them
decide to leave forever. I'm curious if she did that.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
Uh, do you have her back on the line?

Speaker 3 (07:40):
Okay, well maybe she hated Nate's question so much?

Speaker 2 (07:43):
Yeah, okay, Melinda are you back there? You're high, Melinda?
Sorry we lost you? And that here here's great. Why
get upset about it? You just called what's the problem? Right?
We get we get so bent out of shape over

(08:04):
something stupid like a drop phone call, which is not
stupid at all. So as say, Nate asked a question,
I don't know if you heard it, So can you reacqu.

Speaker 1 (08:12):
I didn't hear the question. Okay, So honestly, yes, I
feel like some of the people that don't know anything
about like the outside news and everything, they are a
little more content because they don't have that all what's
gonna happen, like, they don't know, so they just they

(08:33):
just don't worry about it, because that's one worry they
don't have at all about you know, what's going to
happen next? How is the country's gonna say the next step?
How is this going to happen? They they don't know anything.

Speaker 2 (08:45):
So yeah, yeah, So when we hear negative stuff in
the news, you're you just made a very good point here, Melinda,
is we're not only saddened by the news, but we're
saddened about what's next. Well, it's yeah. And also, you know,
how can you be on happy about something you don't
know about exactly? Wow? So that's why it's important on

(09:07):
our end anyway, turn that stuff off if you don't
know it. Headlines are headlines. That's all you need. You
don't need to hear people fighting back and forth about
the headlines. That's not news, right right. Well, well, Linda,
I love the fact that we caught your text and
Nate gave you a call. Thank you so much for
coming on with us.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
Wait, can I ask my room?

Speaker 2 (09:30):
Absolutely, Danielle has a question.

Speaker 4 (09:32):
Yeah, so you know they have it's called rum spring.

Speaker 1 (09:35):
All right, oh yeah, yeah.

Speaker 4 (09:37):
So where sixteen or eighteen you can leave the community,
explore other things and then decide what you want to do.

Speaker 2 (09:42):
Did you actually do that?

Speaker 1 (09:44):
No, So a lot of a lot of those young
people want to say a goat to our sixteen eighteen
year old, you know the age of sixteen eighteen. They
stay in the community, but they do go out and
they white, they heard a lot and all that stuff,
but thank you, come back, like nine of the Amish
people do come back, Like the young folks do come

(10:05):
back to the Amish community and decide to join the
church and the Amish and that there is like that's
my five percent.

Speaker 4 (10:11):
That don't wow, that's good.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
Well I get it. You know. We always say, and
I'm not comparing anyone in the Amish community to a
Martian or someone from another planet. We always do say,
if a being from another planet landed on earth and
saw the lives we were living. They were probably hot
back on their saucer and fly back out the probably
you know what I'm saying. I mean, I would think,
I'm assuming that a lot of your friends and family

(10:35):
members in the Amish community, if they actually did start
listening to all what we're talking about, they would retreat
quickly and go no, no, no. We were just fine
the way we were. They were good, and I think there's.

Speaker 1 (10:47):
Said they would, but but not me. I tried to
I write, I write new experiences, and that's good.

Speaker 2 (10:55):
But but hoping, hoping that you from your background, you
know when it's time to retreat, it's time to Okay,
I don't have to listen to this. I can turn
that off and I'm fine. I'm not going to miss it. Yeah, absolutely, Well, look,
it's just a pleasure speaking with you, Melinda. Thank you
so much for your time. I hope you have the
best day ever. And it's great knowing that you're out

(11:18):
there listening sometimes and I appreciate it very very much.

Speaker 1 (11:20):
Yeah, Oh, you're awesome. I'm so always keeping up motivated
and everything, sir.

Speaker 2 (11:29):
Awesome. I love that. I loved our time together, all right,
thank you, and we'll never forget to start. Thank you
so much. Here you go, Melnda, out there, fifty miles
outside of Cleveland, giving us a little call. Thanks for
listening to us. I love that. Thank you for finding
that call and that text, Nate.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
I love different perspectives right because we're here in our
bubble and I'd love to know what other people are
thinking and seeing and feeling all the time.

Speaker 4 (11:53):
It's nice
