When we had come to Jerusalem, the brothers received us gladly. 18 이튿날 바울은 우리와 함께 야고보를 찾아갔는데, 장로들이 다 거기에 있었다. On the following day Paul went in with us to James, and all the elders were present. 19 바울은 그들에게 인사한 뒤에, 자기의 봉사 활동을 통하여 하나님께서 이방 사람 가운데서 행하신 일을 낱낱이 이야기하였다. After greeting them, he related one by one the things that God had done among the Gentiles through his ministry. 20 그들은 이 말을 듣고서, 하나님께 영광을 돌리고, 바울에게 말하였다. "형제여, 당신이 보는 대로, 유대 사람 가운데는 믿는 사람이 수만 명이나 되는데, 그들은 모두 율법에 열성적인 사람들입니다. And when they heard it, they glorified God. And they said to him, “You see, brother, how many thousands there are among the Jews of those who have believed. They are all zealous for the law, 21 그런데 그들이 당신을 두고 하는 말을 소문으로 듣기로는, 당신이 이방 사람 가운데서 사는 모든 유대 사람에게 할례도 주지 말고 유대 사람의 풍속도 지키지 말라고 하면서, 모세를 배척하라고 가르친다는 것입니다. and they have been told about you that you teach all the Jews who are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, telling them not to circumcise their children or walk according to our customs. 22 그러니 어떻게 하면 좋겠습니까? 그들은 틀림없이 당신이 왔다는 소식을 들을 것입니다. What then is to be done? They will certainly hear that you have come. 23 그러므로 당신은 우리가 말하는 대로 하십시오. 우리 가운데서 하나님 앞에 스스로 맹세한 사람이 넷 있습니다. Do therefore what we tell you. We have four men who are under a vow; 24 이 사람들을 데리고 가서, 함께 정결 예식을 행하고, 그들이 머리를 깎게 하고, 그 비용을 대십시오. 그러면 사람들은 모두, 당신의 소문이 전혀 사실이 아니며, 도리어 당신이 율법을 지키며 바로 살아가고 있다는 것을 알게 될 것입니다. take these men and purify yourself along with them and pay their expenses, so that they may shave their heads. Thus all will know that there is nothing in what they have been told about you, but that you yourself also live in observance of the law. 25 신도가 된 이방 사람들에게는, 우상의 제물과 피와 목매어 죽인 것과 음행을 삼가야 한다는 것을, 우리가 결정해서 써 보냈습니다." But as for the Gentiles who have believed, we have sent a letter with our judgment that they should abstain from what has been sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from what has been strangled, and from sexual immorality.” 26 그래서 바울은 그 다음날 그 네 사람을 데리고 가서, 함께 정결 예식을 한 뒤에, 성전으로 들어갔다. 그리고 정결 기한이 차는 날짜와 각 사람을 위해서 예물을 바칠 날짜를 신고하였다. Then Paul took the men, and the next day he purified himself along with them and went into the temple, giving notice when the days of purification would be fulfilled and the offering presented for each one of them.
