Россия и Украина 16 мая в Стамбуле провели первые с 2022 года прямые переговоры. Российскую делегацию возглавлял помощник президента Владимир Мединский.
Президент Украины Владимир Зеленский, который лично поехал в Турцию, назвал состав российской делегации «бутафорским». Официальный представитель МИД России Мария Захарова в ответ заявила, что Россию представляют «люди с учеными степенями и заслугами перед Отечеством».
Журналист Сергей Пархоменко напомнил, что Мединский защитил свою диссертацию в 2011 году и с тех пор эту работу постоянно критиковали профессиональные исследователи.
