В конце сентября накануне Генассамблеи ООН сразу несколько стран объявили о признании государственности Палестины. Среди них — Великобритания, Франция, Канада, Австралия и Португалия.
Всего Палестину признали больше 145 стран — членов ООН. Эти шаги призваны оказать давление на Израиль и заставить его остановить войну с ХАМАС в секторе Газа, которая началась после нападения группировки на Израиль осенью 2023 года.
Государственность Палестины не признают США и Израиль. Они активно критикуют западные страны за признание Палестины, заявляя, что это «награда для ХАМАС» и «удар по усилиям по достижению прекращения огня в Газе».
