Natalie Stika (00:11):
Welcome to A New American Town.
I'm your host, natalie.
Today we're exploring one ofthe most exciting additions to
Bentonville's downtown theCompton Hotel.
I'm joined by Emily Reynolds, the Director of Sales and
Marketing, to give us a firstlook at this brand new
hospitality experience.
The Compton isn't just a hotel.
It's a tribute to our region'srich past and vision for the

(00:32):
future.
It's where fresh air meetsredefined design, where locals
and guests come together andwhere outdoor adventure is just
steps away.
It's a gateway to the Ozarks,if you will.
Whether you're planning yournext visit or just curious about
what's new in town, this is oneyou don't want to miss, so
let's get into it.
Thank you so much for joiningus, emily.
I'm so excited to talk to youabout the Compton Thank you very

(00:55):
much I appreciate you having metoday.
Thanks for joining us.
So for anyone that's hearingabout this hotel for the first
time which I can't imagine theyare, but just give us a brief
overview of what the ComptonHotel is, sure absolutely yeah.

Emily Reynolds (01:08):
so the Compton Hotel is located on the downtown
square in Bentonville.
It's the new up-and-cominghotel which I know.
We'll kind of get into a fewmore details, but in general
it's all about more details.
But in general it's all aboutit's 142 guest rooms.

(01:29):
It's an independent lifestylehotel and it is set to open in
the fall of 2025.
So, coming up here very soon, the hotel is being developed by
Blue Crane and some additionallocal dedicated design teams and
design teams from out of townas well, uh, across northwest
arkansas and across the area.
The hotel itself is actuallynamed after dr neil compton, who

(01:53):
was a renowned conservationistwho actually played a really
important role in thepreservation of the buffalo
national river, and some peoplemay or may not know about him,
but we're really excited to beable to highlight his mission.
And then, you know, additionally, the values of the
hotel and the mission itself ofDr Compton and our cycling

(02:14):
community, and we'll, you know, touch upon a number of other
things that we're going to bebringing.

Natalie Stika (02:19):
Yes.
So, talking about Dr Compton, you guys have completely
designed.
From the mock-ups that I'veseen, you've completely designed
the hotel to look like you'rein nature and it's stunning,
it's beautiful.
So let's talk about thosedetails.
What inspired every design, anddo you have specific stories of

(02:41):
things that Dr Compton did thatyou're incorporating?

Emily Reynolds (02:52):
Yes, yeah, absolutely.
Dr Compton was pivotal inspreading the message and
working with the Ozark Societyin the 60s and 70s and
preserving the Buffalo River andactually getting it recognized
as the first national river inthe United States, and so it's
been an honor for everybody toreally pay homage with a lot of
the building facilities and thethings that it includes, and we
have things that are locallysourced.

(03:13):
There is a huge wall in theatrium area right as you walk in
.
It's actually locally sourcedlimestone and it will have a
water feature that is runningdown it and it will be kind of
trickling down that area.
So it's kind of this big, soaring, open atrium with
sunlight, if you can imaginethis, this big limestone wall

(03:34):
with water in?
exactly, yeah, it'll be a lotlike the buffalo river, kind of
a an immediate nod to that.
We will also have local plants, live plants, in the lobby space
.
There will be other immersiveparts of the hotel.
So on the second level of theatrium we're actually going to

(03:57):
have even more nods to DrCompton.
There are spaces that aredesigned to reflect, without
being identical to a lot ofthose experiences along the
Buffalo River, but lots ofreferences.
There will be immersive sounds, there will be immersive smells
throughout the hotel, thingsthat are designed specifically
for the hotel, for the hotelitself.

Natalie Stika (04:14):
So I guess, just drawing the connection between
Dr Compton's impact to Buffaloand then here in Northwest
Arkansas, I feel like it'sreally important for context.
He you might probably know morethan I do, but he had a really
instrumental hand in the ComptonGardens, which is not far at
all from the hotel, actuallyjust right down the promenade

(04:35):
that just reopened.
Yes, that was his property, helived there and he basically
created a new Buffalo, a wholewildlife experience right here
downtown Bentonville a long timeago, a lot of native plants.
So I just think it's so coolthat people can experience that

(04:57):
touch that he had on ourcommunity and then experience
something that reflects thebuffalo as well, just like a
couple steps away.

Emily Reynolds (05:05):
Yes, it really draws all of the, especially in
northern Arkansas buffalo, theriver valley, all together.
For sure, Dr Compton's housewas near downtown Bentonville,
which is kind of an iconiclocation now with the.
Compton Gardens, and so we'regoing to be another piece in
that puzzle.
We are located also right offof the new promenade that is

(05:26):
going to be part of the Quilt ofParks, where we're going to
connect these green spaces, aswell as these other locations,
these different promenades, together, and so the hotel is
really going to pay homage to anumber of those things and
really draw upon the naturalbeauty of this environment that
Dr Compton loved so much Right, just the natural state in

(05:49):
general.

Natalie Stika (05:50):
Exactly, benville does a great job, remaining
true to that.
The natural state I feel likeyou can see it around our
community and all of the design.
There's a lot of wood and rockelements everywhere, and so I
think it's just amazing how thishotel is fitting into our vibe
and our community seamlessly.

Emily Reynolds (06:07):
I'm glad you mentioned that, because, along
with that limestone that waslocally sourced, we've also
sourced some of the woods thatthat are used in the hotel
itself.
There's oak and there's, Ibelieve, white ash, and some of
those things are really from ournatural environment, and so
it's all, it's all part of that, that experience that we're
wanting to create, um, in honorof the outdoor enthusiast.

(06:31):
That's, that's what we, what wesay, basically what we, our
mission is a part of outdoorenthusiasts, culture seekers and
business travelers, so we arewanting to draw together these
communities of people and payhomage to each of them,
including our local cyclingcommunity.
We've got a lot of great thingsgoing on which we can touch on

(06:54):
as well for our cyclingenthusiasts?

Natalie Stika (06:55):
Yeah, what kind of offers do you?

Emily Reynolds (06:56):
have for cyclists.
Yeah, so we are going to bewe're still developing some of
those programs right now but wewill have a cycling concierge
which is going to be somebodythat will be able to answer
questions, able to curate rides.
That person is going to be areally instrumental part in the
fabric of our hotel, of theavailable programs and things

(07:19):
that we can do to really drawthat outdoor in for our guests,
because we don't anticipateevery guest knowing exactly
everything about the RazorbackGreenway it's a large, expansive
area or everything about thecycling community.
So that partnership will reallyhelp to enhance that cycling
experience.
We'll have bike valet so we'llhave availability to store bikes

(07:42):
.
We will have bike washing aswell and then, and honestly, as
these programs get finalized anddevelop, which we can't wait to
get rolled out, you know, soonas we go through this
pre-opening process, it reallywill shine a light as well on
that outdoor enthusiast, withthe cycling community and
working with our local bikeclubs and working with our local

(08:03):
enthusiasts as well.

Natalie Stika (08:05):
Just a whole wellness experience.
It really ties in everything, and the hotel looks like it's
going to be a work of art.

Emily Reynolds (08:12):
It really will.
Yes, the spaces are designed tobe very approachable but very
organic in nature, drawing onthose local resources, drawing
on these local stories and theselocal communities.
The whole thing is just reallydesigned to enhance the story of
Northwest Arkansas and reallyin all of Arkansas, in
conservation and outdoorenthusiasm Right.

Natalie Stika (08:35):
I don't know if you know, but we get a lot of
people coming here and they cometo stay in Bentonville or they
come to hang out for a couple ofdays and they take a day
excursion to go and see thebuffalo and I just I'm excited
for people to come and stay atthe Compton and do that exact
thing, where they come and hangout in Bentonville and enjoy our
art museums and our amazingamenities and and enjoy our art

(08:55):
museums and our amazingamenities and then they go to
the Buffalo and then they get toreally see the hotel, expansive
and like the real world.
It's just awesome?

Emily Reynolds (09:03):
Yes, we do.
We have a very vibrant businesstravel community, which is part
of that kind of missionstatement of ours that we want
to.
You know, people may be cominghere for business, but we want
them to also immerse themselvesin the beauty of Northwest
Arkansas and we want to be thepart of that catalyst of that
experience for those people.
So as they come into town, exactly that Go, you know, we

(09:27):
can help to set up maybe a touror directions or projects or
facilitate that experience withthe Buffalo River, facilitate
that experience within ourcycling communities with the
Greenway and then also the localdowntown area.
That's such a vibrant spacewith so many wonderful
restaurants, so many wonderfulthings to do in partnerships.

(09:48):
So we're really looking forwardto pulling all of those things
together in kind of our ownunique way.

Natalie Stika (09:53):
Yeah.

Emily Reynolds (09:53):
Yeah, it's day and play.
We love that.
Exactly yes.

Natalie Stika (09:57):
The business travelers that come back and
they're like, oh, I got to bringmy family or my family came
with me while I'm on my businesstrip so that we can stay a
little longer and see thisawesome town.
Yeah, it's going to be theperfect landscape for that.
So obviously this is anexciting addition to Bentonville
and from a tourism perspective,it's going to be a game changer
.
What does it mean to you tohave a hotel like this in

(10:19):
downtown Bentonville?

Emily Reynolds (10:21):
So the Compton is going to, you know, we hope
is going to anchor Bentonville'sreally transformative downtown
project and everything that ishappening.
I think that locals and visitorsalike can see the changes that
have been happening over timeand in really positive ways.
Again, it's going to be part ofthat larger Quilt of Parks
initiatives, which is amultimillion dollar project that

(10:45):
is created as a network of thepublic green spaces throughout
the downtown area.
But also the hotel itself sitsbetween Dave Peel Park and that
pedestrian promenade.
Hotel itself sits between DavePeel Park and that pedestrian
promenade, so it's really wellpositioned to offer the direct
link to Crystal Bridges Museumof American Art, which is, as we
may or may not know, thelargest expansion that it's had

(11:08):
to date.
So some really amazing thingshappening over there as well.
But we're excited to connectall of those spaces and be a
natural footpath and a naturaladvocate for those projects and
the really exciting things thatare going on here that people
may not have been exposed to yet.
But it also provides thatcentral home overall for the

(11:29):
outdoor enthusiast, the cultureseeker and the business traveler
.
It's the perfect backdrop too.

Natalie Stika (11:35):
I love now that the outside is pretty much done.
I love seeing what it's done tothe addition of our skyline and
just it's just beautiful and Ithink everyone is so excited and
happy to experience it.
Whether you're coming to dinejust for an evening or you're
going to stay, I think you'llsee a range of different people
coming and everyone is alreadyso excited about it and that is

(11:56):
what we hope.

Emily Reynolds (11:57):
We do hope to be exciting to those different
communities of people and withinthe hotel itself that we will
be having a number of additionalamenities.
So those are some of ourprograms and some of our values,
but we will have dining outletswithin the hotel.
We will have three differentconcepts we also have for both

(12:18):
in-town business, social eventsFor any reason that somebody may
need event space.
We also have some reallybeautiful event space.
On our second level is ourDogwood Ballroom and it actually
has floor-to-ceiling windowsthat overlook the square.
That's about 4,000 square feet.
We have additional space on thefirst level.
That's about 1,300 square feet.

(12:38):
How many people do you thinkthat you'll be able to fit in
those?
We can successfully, I wouldsay kind of depending on the
event itself, but around 200people in our ballroom space and
some of the I can't sayeverything yet because a lot of
it's on order and a lot of it'sbeing finalized right now.
But some of the things that wehave coming in for these spaces
are just really beautiful, veryunique.

(12:59):
As somebody who's been in theindustry for a long time, I'm
excited about some of the thingswe have coming up.

Natalie Stika (13:05):
That is a good question.
What are you most excited about?

Emily Reynolds (13:10):
I think that I am the most excited about
getting that mission statementand getting our purpose across
in multiple ways.
I can't wait that we can sharethat with the business traveler.
I can't wait that we can sharethat to the family who's looking
for a great dining experiencethat night.
We can share that with thecommunity that has grown up here

(13:32):
myself included.
I've actually am a native ofBentonville, arkansas, from
Central Street, from the squareitself, wow.
So I you know we want to sharethat with the longtime community
, the new people that are movingin here, that are ready to
share in this experience.
We want to be a part of all ofthose journeys.

Natalie Stika (13:47):
Yeah, that's awesome.
So I guess next steps how canpeople learn more?
When can they start bookingtheir stay?
Can they follow you on socialmedia?
What can our listeners do?

Emily Reynolds (14:01):
Yes, absolutely yes, so reservations are going
to be opening up here soon.
That is something we areactually doing our testing on
right now.
People will be seeing ourwebsite continue to develop.
We have launched it.
It is wwwthecomptoncom, and soyou'll start to see new things
pop onto there as we continue tofinalize our concepts, continue

(14:23):
to build some of those spacesout.
We also have our social media.
We would love everybody tofollow as well.
At the Compton Hotel and thenon many of those sites, you can
actually book direct.
Eventually, they will see whereyou can book sleeping room
reservations that will also golive.
There are links to send us anemail to join our newsletter so

(14:44):
that you can watch these thingsunfold.
You can connect with usdirectly.
I would love to speak withanybody personally if they have
questions as well, via some ofthose outlets, whether people
are planning on a trip or ifthey're local and they just want
to know a little bit about thehotel.
We're looking for advocates inevery corner.
Yeah, love that.

Natalie Stika (15:03):
Well, you have an advocate here and we are so
excited to see the fully doneCompton Hotel.
It's going to be amazing forour community.
Thank you so much for joiningus.
