(00:00):
How good is the start? It's a good start.
It's a great start. It's the first win.
And why do we play? You play to win the game.
And what do we want? I want winners.
I'm not bipartisan. I'm not bipolar.
I'm not by DID, I'm by winning. I went here and I went there and
apparently so is Texas A&M, who came up with a dramatic win

(00:23):
against Notre Dame on the road. We're talking about them a
little bit later on. I also want to get into an early
look at Oklahoma versus Auburn next week as we get into the
first big week when we got a lotof top 25 teams that are going
to be idle. I also want to talk a little bit
about my top 25 going into Week 4 and some upsets that we just

(00:44):
did not see coming. What's up, Ken folk?
It's our Jay Young. I am not on a step mill.
If this is your first time watching adapt and respond.
Thank you for joining us here live.
We do this thing every single day.
We talk college football. If you're into that, go ahead
and hit that subscribe button like this video and answer the
question in the comments below. Where do we rank Texas A&M?

(01:06):
You know what where do we rank LSU Where do we rank?
Where do we rank? Where do we rank?
That's mostly what I do at Fox Sports.
It's also one of my favorite things to do because college
football is built around collegefootball rankings.
And one of the reasons that we like to do this is to establish
who the good teams are from who the very good teams are.

(01:27):
Because it always feels like we've got a handful of good
teams, but they're only three orfour really good teams.
The kind of teams that you wouldexpect to win the national
championship, so much so that you can be the Big 10s all time
winning this coach and never have once played for the
national championship because your name is Kirk Ference.
The guys that he's in front of all played for national

(01:49):
championships down to #5. But this man got to 2:06 with a
win against UMass. Just the way that you would draw
it up if you're an Iowa fan. My goodness.
I also want to talk a little bitabout what Oklahoma was doing
today. But we did that segment.
So let's talk about Ohio State. Here's another segment that we
did. But as the clear #1 in the top

(02:11):
25, I would not be surprised to find out that is the unanimous
#1 in the AP Top 25. However, I'm going to actually
get what I'm asking for, which is somebody, somewhere is going
to rank Penn State as a number one team in the week for AP Top
25 off the strength of beating absolutely positively nobody.

(02:32):
But that gets to change with a pivotal contest against Oregon
next week, where we expect that'll be a top five showdown
between an Oregon team I think is number 2 in the country and
Penn State, who I got probably at like #8 now we'll get in my
top 25 a little bit later on. But given what I've seen from
the Buckeyes against Texas, against Grambling and against
Ohio, it feels like the most complete team in college

(02:55):
football right now with the quarterback who's seeing it.
He threw 2 interceptions againstOhio.
One of them was goofy as hell. But 347 passing yards, 109 yards
from a true freshman and Bo Jackson are things.
RV 153 Steven Jeremiah Smith, who is the break class glass in
the case of emergency type of player.
Man, the game was getting kind of tight there in the third

(03:17):
quarter and it was one of those was like, hey, yo, JJ, can you
go downfield and and go catch this this gold ball right quick.
And Julian put it up there and JJ said I got it, I got it.
It's a little bit unfair as Parker Bowman went out or no
Parker Bowman, Parker Navarro went out for Ohio, making this
game a little bit easier for Ohio State to win. 37 and 9:00.

(03:38):
But you get my point there. I need more than anything else,
I'm impressed with how this day went because I did not see some
of the upsets and frankly, injuries that we saw coming into
vogue. I want to start with giving
props to A&M for going into Notre Dame and handling Notre
Dame #1 they gave Notre Dame notone, but two losses, which means

(04:00):
we should not meet here. A damn thing from Notre Dame the
rest of the way about no CollegeFootball Playoff.
I get it, they were able to losethe directional Illinois at home
last year and still make the national championship game, but
that was with one loss, not two.Hey, we lost to Miami and we
lost to A&M and those are two ranked punish.
You're also O and two, which means you are a worst football

(04:22):
team today. Then Clemson, which is a really
difficult thing to do as Clemsonwas also a top 15 team going
into this week before they got stomped out by Georgia Tech.
Difference is they got stomped out by Georgia Tech at home and
they got a loss to an LSU team that's now undefeated.
You got a loss to A&M and getting a loss to A&M at Notre

(04:44):
Dame. I got to put this in perspective
for you. A&M has been garbage, has been
trash, has been absolutely, positively out to lunch every
single time they play a ranked opponent on the road for the
last decade. If A&M played a ranked opponent

(05:05):
on the road, it didn't matter where they were ranked.
If they were not, they were going to lose.
They were going to lose. And you know what?
You of all people in Notre Dame did it to yourself.
You know, I know you did it to yourself.
It ain't because Mike Denbrock decided, Oh yeah, I got Jeremiah
Love, maybe I should get him some touches.
He did. Jeremiah Love had 134 yards
receiving and rushing, played outstanding football and put

(05:27):
them in position to win the friggin football game.
CJ Carr played outstandingly. The Notre Dame defense played
well. Do you know who bought this for
you? A dude that you sent back into
Alabama and brought back to playlacrosse and then had old snaps.

(05:50):
It's supposed to be 4142 forty. That's what the game is supposed
to be, right? As the game is supposed to be.
Tyler Buckner botches the extra point snap, then tries to make a
play and doesn't make a play, which gave Marcel Reed and A&M
just enough time to commit 18, eleveneen, 15 penalties and

(06:13):
still go win this game as the clock is winding down.
Just 13 seconds left. Hell, A&M did everything they
could to try to give Notre Dame this game.
Terry Bussey tried to run 1 back.
He said no, we got a hold of thepenalty.
We're bringing it back. How many freaking pedals do you
have in this game? My goodness, in a 41 to 40 game
that Anna went on the road to win, they had, let me mention 13

(06:38):
penalties for 86 yards. Notre Dame, Dick, Notre Dame
took Clemson away from Clemson and made it their own.
I, I don't, I don't, I have not seen a worse, I've snatched
defeat from the jaws of victory than I did tonight.

(06:59):
And I know some Notre Dame fans and you know what, ordinarily on
other days it's good peoples, it's peoples that I would rather
like to, you know, talk to and whatnot.
But today, I don't care. I don't care.
Now y'all got to, now y'all got to go to Mass and y'all got to
talk to the rest of us. Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey.
This is what happens when you decide to take your bye week

(07:19):
early because you expect to beatMiami.
And then you expected us to justput you in the top five because
that's what we don't really do with you.
GD is and you had, you had everybody there, you had a
commissioner, College Football Playoff, you had Greg Sankey,
you had Ted Cruz. Oh my God.
Oh my God, do you know how insufferable Ted Cruz is going

(07:41):
to be that he got to watch TexasA&M beat Notre Dame in Notre
Dame? That is an apolitical statement.
You know how it's, Oh my God, Notre Dame fans can't go
nowhere. And you know what?
They're everywhere. They're all the time.
I even know Notre Dame fans didn't go to Notre Dame that
live in Tulsa, blasphemous as itis.

(08:01):
But you know what? I might need to go see them at
Sunday morning Mass. Just say hi, how are you?
How are you holding up? And watch them come unglued,
come, just come bust in front ofme because that is what I feel
when I watch Notre Dame sneak into the College Football
Playoff and get to the national championship game.
Not this year, because Marcel Reed did it for you and me. 17

(08:22):
and 37 for 360. My goodness.
They put up 488 yards offense onthis team and 128 yards on the
ground. It was fun.
Like at one point I'm looking atthis and I was to see LSU doing
LSU things, which we'll get to in a second and I go wait a
second, is Notre Dame going to let this slip away?

(08:44):
They damn sure did let it slip right away.
This is how you can tell A-Team like Notre Dame that was ranked
in the top ten and ain't going to be ranked no more after this
week is a good team. It's a good team.
It ain't a great team. Ohio State being a great team.
Do we have another great team inLSU?
Do we have another great team inGeorgia?

(09:05):
I don't know. Miami, Oh, they had a statement.
Let's talk about it. Let's take a short break, come
back. We'll do a little chatting about
my top 25. We'll talk a little bit about
Oklahoma, Auburn, what we expectfrom that game, the Jackson
Arnold game, as it will be, and if y'all are good enough at
this, and by good enough at this, I mean ask me a damn good
question. I'll get to those as well.

(09:47):
Back on adapt and respond with me RJ Young.
If you are new to the channel, hit that subscribe button like
this video and answer this question in the comments below.
It's a great way to participate in the community.
Are you more impressed with LSU's defense or are you more
frustrated with LSU's offense? Because I think both of those

(10:10):
things are worth talking about. So as you will know, since
you're watching a post game show, LSU beat Florida 20 to 10.
That sounds like a defensive battle, does it not?
That sounds like, oh, both of these defenses were playing
outstanding football when in fact, no, no, you would be

(10:31):
incorrect. You'd be incorrect.
You would be the kind of person that read a box score.
Because if you also read that box, here you go.
Damn. LSU defense is the 2024
Philadelphia Eagles. They picked off DJ Lagway five
times 5 four were safeties, which means that DJ Lagway can't

(10:54):
read coverage that ended safeties only.
Let me back up here. Let me back up here as a
quarterback, as a as a quarterback, I'm talking about
myself. I got a lesson very early in
high school from Chad Morris, who I love to death about open
and close safeties. If you see 2 high safeties, it's

(11:17):
open in the middle. If you see one high safety, it's
closed in the middle. Where do we go with the
football? We go where the safeties ain't.
We're going to get one on ones and we're going to play our
leverages. That's what we're going to do.
So if I have a wide receiver who's running a go route on the
numbers next to the boundary andI got a center field safety,

(11:39):
where am I going to put the football on the outside shoulder
of my wide receiver where he canget it?
Basic fundamental stuff. If you treat a safety over the
top of your corner and your widereceiver, guess what?
That's called two on one and that safety ain't playing the
wide receiver. Play the ball.

(12:02):
I was I I I didn't I what DJ what what what the hell dog.
Like on a day when it is horrible to be Paul Finebaum and
Arch Manning. DJ Lagway had Arch Manning out
here looking regular Arch Manning look like absolute
garbage today against UTEP. That's bad news bears.
Bad news bears for everybody andby everybody mean from Ohio

(12:25):
State on down, because now you don't look at Texas as a team
that can even make the College Football Playoff when before we
might have thought of Arch Manning as the guy who played
for the Heisman. And remember, Paul Finebaum is
the guy that said Arch Manning is the best quarterback that we
have seen since Tim Tebow said it with a straight face.

(12:47):
I have three kinds of takes. I think most talk show hosts
have three kinds of takes. We are correct in the moment, we
are correct given time, and we are hilariously wrong.
I do believe Paul Finebaum, ArchManning take qualifies for the
third place. OK, now if you want to tell me

(13:09):
that LSU is a great football team, you might be correct in
the moment. You might be correct given time.
I highly doubt you're going to be comically wrong.
That said, I don't like looking at Garrett Nussmeyer going 15 to
27220 yards as the SE CS, returning leading passer and
saying that's a good football team because I don't.

(13:30):
I don't know. I'm not sure, dog.
I'm really not. I think Blake Baker has vaulted
to the frontline in the Royals award conversation.
I think that I think his defenseis playing lights out.
I think Harold Perkins going to make all that money that he
might have lost when he blew outhis knee last year.
But I'm also having a good time watching the train wreck that is
Florida football. Billy Napier is 20 and 20 as a

(13:53):
head coach. He's 10 and 14 in the SEC, and
all he can do is tell you we're going to get better.
We're going to give it the old college try.
Oh, wow. Tennessee is the only team today
that took a loss. It still looks good.
Like you can say, OK, cool. You could see Tennessee and
Georgia playing in College Football Playoff.
We watched that game. That's game of the year.
It's great. It's awesome.

(14:14):
Texas might not be there. And hell, Oklahoma might have
everything that they want against Texas become the Red
River Rivalry. And I know this because Oklahoma
was able to beat Temple today, but it's not because Oklahoma's
way to be able to beat Temple ishow they've been able to beat
people. So heading into this week, the

(14:36):
game to watch for me in the SEC is going to be Oklahoma versus
Auburn ought to be a ranked affair.
It will be John Mateer and OU against Auburn and Jackson
Arnold. Now, the reason I find this
interesting and the reason you might find this interesting is
because Jackson Arnold was supposed to be the guy that John

(14:58):
Metier is, the guy that can do everything.
He can throw the ball, he can run the ball, he can catch the
ball, he can feel the Gatorade cooler, walk the dog, paint the
fence, put the house back together, take it apart again
and have it all done while he tutors your kids in math.

(15:19):
That ain't turned out to be whatJackson Arnold was at Oklahoma.
As a matter of fact, you might say Jackson Arnold set Oklahoma
back because the only way that Oklahoma could win a football
game, against good competition, I might add, is if Jackson
Arnold was running the football. And since you don't run the bone
at Oklahoma no more and we don'trun the single wing anywhere
anymore, college football, that's not going to get it done.

(15:42):
That's going to get you 6 and seven.
That's what it got six and seven.
And him out the door is a five star in the national Gatorade
player of the year. He ends up at Auburn.
Now he ends up at Auburn with Hugh Freeze, and Hugh Freeze
pays Eric Singleton $1,000,000, pays Cam Coleman $1,000,000 and
expects Jackson Arnold to provide service to the
$1,000,000 wide receivers. Turns out that ain't the way
that it's been going, because that's not how it's going to go

(16:04):
with Jackson Arnold at quarterback, all right?
You're going to be truly dual threat.
He's going to need to do as muchwith his legs as he can with his
arm. And that ain't the way that Hugh
wants to run the football team. He threw for 142 yards against
South Alabama today. That's not good.
Jeremiah Cobb, he's a dude. He's a running back, but he's a
dude. Which means that when Oklahoma

(16:26):
and Auburn play, not only are you going to be playing against
the former team, you're going tobe playing a former head coach
who also knows everything there is to know about you as a
player. And it's called the defense.
Which means I expect Oklahoma toeat and eat well.
It's a Brent Venables defense, so it's going to be aggressive
and they're coming after you andthey already know what you know.
Jackson Arnold can't be trusted and make good decisions if you

(16:48):
pressure him. So expect blitz after blitz
after blitz. And if by some miracle Jackson
Arnold can beat a blitz, let alone a Brent, Brent Venables is
simulated pressures, which ain'tblitz's, you might actually get
a W. But this game is also at
Oklahoma and it's got John Mateer on the other side, a guy

(17:09):
that has had 340 plus total yards of offense on average in
each and every game. Is he the only dude that makes
that game that team go for now? Yeah.
It's a lot like Lenore Sellers in South Carolina.
He gets hurt, They take a loss to Vanderbilt.
It's Vanderbilt's first win against a ranked opponent on the
road since 2007. That's how important the
quarterback position is here. I prepared it to Florida State

(17:31):
and Jordan Travis. When he went out, we all thought
the same thing. That's not.
They're not no good no more because they weren't.
They weren't. Same thing could be true with
John material, which is why people keep yelling, myself
included. Sit down somewhere son.
Stop playing quarterback like you turn in a 643 double play.
OK, best athlete on the field, 500 LB squat and all that.

(17:51):
Well, let me let me not give him£30.
He ain't earned 470 LB squat andall of that rifle.
Harm also throws the ball like ashortstop, but in a pitch, he'll
make a play. That's the difference right now.
And that will be the difference next week when Oklahoma and
Auburn play. I think if you're talking about
defenses, cool. You can tell me everything you
want about DJ Durkin and what hemight be able to do against Ben

(18:13):
Arbuckle. But now that Oklahoma's able to
run the football with a guy likeTori Blaylock, who had 14 rushed
400 yards, hopefully Chiantes Lewis is OK Dionne Burks is
finding his way and he's being great.
Jared Cannock turns in from one of the best linebackers on the
team for the best tight end on the team.
You're getting pushed and Jay not might.

(18:33):
I'm a guy. I'm not sure.
Javonte Barnes is bad battering ram.
I think you got everything you need to not only beat Auburn,
but to make an assault on the SEC.
And given what we've seen, the only teams that I think that
really will give Oklahoma a veryhard time include Tennessee and

(18:55):
Georgia. That's it right now, and they
don't play Georgia, it's South Carolina.
We'll see what happens with the North sellers.
Hopefully he's OK because that'sa different ball game if he's
able to play Ole Miss. They lose off to Simmons.
They put Trinidad Chambliss in there, who's a transfer from
Ferris State that goes, guy goesfor 353 and 60 against Arkansas
on a win. They're going to be just fine,

(19:17):
right? Keep going down the line on
this. We know that A&M is able to beat
Notre Dame or we know that NotreDame was able to beat Notre Dame
for A&M. Either way, the SEC looks good
there, right? Missouri stopped out Louisiana
today. I think Oklahoma can keep up
with everybody here, including LSU.
That's why I said, do you think they're a good team or great
team, right? Because if they're a great team,

(19:39):
the offense needs to be as good as the defense is.
And against a program like Florida, who lost to South
Florida last week, same South Florida got stomped out by Miami
today. I don't know, Doug.
I don't know. But we're all going to find out
together, I promise, right? So take another short break,
come back, go through a top 25 preview.

(20:01):
Is I'm going to put it up at FoxSports, still working out some
things. You got a good question.
Now is the time to drop it in the chat because I've been known
to overlook your critical your your, your crappy questions.
So ask crappy question. If you carry any conversation
with somebody else in the chat, that's fine.
If you listen on the podcast, which is on Spotify and Apple,
thanks so much. I'm still giving away the
stickers. They're still in the mail.

(20:22):
All you got to do is hit the form in the description in the
YouTube link below. The back on adapt and respond

(20:50):
with me RJ Young if you are new to the channel, hit that
subscribe button like this videoand answer comment in the
questions below. Do you agree with my top 25
heading into week 4? I always say it's a preview
because it's a look at what I'm still moving around in my head.
And you'll find out for sure once it gets published at
foxsports.com, where everybody will read it and everybody will

(21:13):
tell me what they think. But given what we've seen so far
through Week 4, here's how I think I got it going right now.
So if I had an AP vote, this is how it would look.
Ohio State at #1 is clear and obvious for me.
Oregon at #2 is clear and obvious for me.
We might have some moving and shake in there, but that'll come
later. They beat up on Northwestern 34
to 14. It looks actually much worse on

(21:36):
the scoreboard than it was in actuality.
Sleepy Star for Oregon, but it was a game that they won on the
road. Georgia at #3 with that dramatic
44 to 41 win in overtime. They go down 21, seven on the
road, they come back, they win it.
Gunner Stockton is a dude, 4th and 6th, gotta have it.
That dude throws one up to London Humphrey, who makes a
play. Max Gilbert just ain't got the

(21:57):
moxie. You can blame Josh Hypo for ice
and the kid, but Josh Hypo doesn't kick the field goal.
And I know he can make the fieldgoal because he made a field
goal in overtime. Just couldn't make it when the
pressure was on #4 I got Miami. They would throttle South
Florida 49 to 12. My goodness.
South Florida, who walked in this week, was the only team
with two ranked wins. Miami said not today, Satan, as

(22:17):
Carson Beck went for 3:40 on 23 of 28.
That's pretty damn good. And we had Mark Fletcher go for
120 yards on the ground. I got to LSU at 5 after their 20
to 10 victory against a well mediocre to bad Florida team.
Oklahoma is at #6 for me 42 to three win against Temple, TX at
#7 for me 27 to 10 win against Utah.

(22:39):
Arch Manning needs to figure outwhat it is is ailing him.
And Steve Sarkeesian better not be so touchy this week because
that might have been contributing to why you were
sleepy and awful against Utah. Arch was just 11 to 25 in this
game and had one stretch way through 9 consecutive
incompletions. I got Penn State at #8 because
they ain't played nobody. I got text A&M at #9 because
they were able to beat Notre Dame 4110 or 4140, but probably

(23:04):
should have lost that game if Tyler Buckner can actually just
hold a snap. Indiana at #10 they ain't played
nobody. 73 to 0 beating up Sycamores, they get Illinois.
That ought to be a good game this weekend.
Tennessee I got at 11. The loss to Georgia is the loss
to Georgia. 12 I got old miss was able to beat Arkansas.
Things on the feet at Missouri at 13.
Beats up on Louisiana 52 to 10. Ahmad Hardy went for 250 yards

(23:30):
on the ground. My goodness.
Illinois beat up on Western Michigan again.
They ain't played nobody 38 to 0.
The teams that they play beaten are combined 2:00 and 7:00, but
again, they get to play Indiana later this week.
We'll find out. Florida State was idle at 15.
Georgia Tech slots in at 16 for me.
Great win against Clemson 2421. They have beaten 7 of the last
8-8 ranked ACC teams that they have played.

(23:52):
That's phenomenal. And they get their first win
against Clemson since 2014. Iowa State at 17.
It got a little touch and go there against Arkansas State,
but they pulled out of 2416 win.Michigan at 18.
Destroyed Central Michigan 63 to3/8 rushing touchdowns in that
game. 349 total yards for Bryce Underwood and 381 yards on the

(24:13):
ground for the team. Auburn I got at 19.
South Alabama is the win there, but you know they'll get to
prove it once again against Oklahoma if they got it. 3115, I
mentioned Jeremiah Cobbs, a dude, Jackson Arnold better
learn how to throw the football down the field #20 I got South
Florida. I'm not going to beat them up
that much. They played three consecutive
ranked opponents. They lost to 1.
Alabama, I got a 21. Destroys Wisconsin, but

(24:36):
Wisconsin was playing with theirnumber 2 quarterback and the
defense was never that good. Even so, Ty Simpson went 2429
for 382 with four TDs. You'll take it.
Ryan Williams has had 9 catches, three of them are touchdowns for
243 yards over the last two games.
Vanderbilt slots in at 23 with agreat win against South
Carolina. Yale and N Sellers went in

(24:57):
there, but Vanderbilt still had to finish it and Diego Pavia
still ends up being that Talisman.
Great note here. The Commodores open the season 3
and O with wins by 20 points or more for the first time since
19/30/23. I got Texas Tech.
We ain't played nobody. And that does include the Oregon
State team that they destroyed 4514.
They were up 45 and 0 after the third quarter.

(25:18):
Baron Morton went 442 yards, 4 TDs, Utah slotting in at #24
with a stomping out of Wyoming. And I got SC after their first
Rd. win, Big 10 against Purdue 3317, even as the game was
delayed. I gotta get there.
Other than that, man, I was really, really, really impressed

(25:39):
with what I saw from Ohio State, was really impressed with what I
saw from Oklahoma, being able totake care of business and handle
it. If you got a good question, I'm
looking for it. Let me see.
I'm looking for it. If you ain't got a good
question. We might, we might have us a
problem. We might be just gun guys.
So who we got last year of civilwar, is that Oregon and Ohio

(26:03):
State? No.
Excuse me Oregon and Oregon State.
Let me see anybody got a good question here bro?
Vandy is not a top 15 despite I didn't put him at 15.
You can't hear you see what we got, who else we got and y'all
need to come up with some. I'm telling you man, everybody

(26:27):
thinks they can host a show until I ask them.
Come up with a good question. What are we doing out here?
FSU will be dropped out of top 25 soon by by why?
Come on man, this ain't your daddy's Facebook page.
Give me a take or give me a goodquestion.
What are we doing here? Sleeper team and waiting.

(26:50):
OK Pauly Buckeye. What a good one.
I honestly believe it's going tocome out of the group of Five.
It'd be Tulane right there. They stomped out Duke today.
Great win for them against Darren Minson in the $8 million
quarterback. I also think Memphis is kind of
lying and wait, waiting on things to happen.
Houston beat up on a bad Colorado, but Houston is right
there. I genuinely believe that it's

(27:11):
going to be a group of 16 that can edge into this thing.
Outside of that, we know everybody else, right?
We know Georgia Tech, for instance, and that's where the
bar is. We know that Virginia Tech's
bad. We know that North Carolina's
not any good. We keep going through it, right?
Washington's not going to be there at the end.
Iowa is not any good. You're figuring out very quickly
in the power for who the teams are that you can count on to be

(27:32):
in the top 25 because they're all three and O right now.
Or they got good wins against ranked opponents.
The Group of 6 is the last real change agent that we got in the
sport, but we don't really care about the Group of 6.
And the one team that we did, South Florida, they got
destroyed by more than 30 pointsby Miami today.
That's just what it's going to be, guys.
All right, That's going to do itfor this live episode of Adapt

(27:56):
