When the Rapids backs were against the wall, they showed absolute grit! The Colorado Rapids took the early 1-0 lead behind the one and only Cole Bassett. Then after the half, the Houston Dynamo made it interesting with their own efforts to win by tying it up during the 68th minute. But if you still believe in miracles, the Rapids provided one! Paxten Aaronson, in his home opener with the Rapids, goes on to make it look easy in the 7th minute of stoppage time. 2-1 is the final at DSGP! Connor Cape and Drew Moor had the call from Commerce City!

Speaker 1 (00:01):
It sets up slightly better for a lefty. Again, whistle
is blown, Bassett chops his feet right.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
But hits it.

Speaker 3 (00:10):
Oh Man, the homegrown Cole.

Speaker 4 (00:13):
Bassett with a thunderbolt from outside the box on the
free kick.

Speaker 3 (00:20):
One zero Colorado in the tenth.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Minute, and it's the subtle little move from Hafa. Santos
just rolls the ball back behind him and what that
does is open up that back post all right, I
guess it would be the near post. From this angle
allows Cole Bassett to go around the side of the wall.

Speaker 3 (00:41):
He doesn't have to go.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
Over the wall. The wall is too far inside, and
Santos essentially moves the free kick two yards to Cole
Bassett's right and he's able to bend it around the
wall and inside the near post. Pass Bond, who has
a long look at his wall after that one. He's
the one that sets it up, though.

Speaker 3 (01:02):
Rappids have to make sure they're set piece defending is correct.
To begin the second half, McGlenn dangerous set piece taker.
Right arm up, left footed, ball sailing in towards that
back post, headed down inside the six yard box, spilled
still bouncing around, blocked away to the top of the eighteen,
Navajo takes it Rapids, excellent emergency defending, and then Navajo

(01:26):
commits a foul after a heavy touch in the center
circle and it's a yellow card to the Brazilian forward.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
What to say from Zach Stephen on this last sequence
from the Dynamo, It's fantastic service from Jack McGlenn and
Ortiz rises at the back post, heads it back across
and it's just a scramble and it looks like Punts
is the one that gets the shot, that Zach Stepan
is able to sprawl out, make himself big and block,
and a couple more swings at it from the Dynamo.

(02:00):
Some good desperate defending there from the Rapids when they
needed it to keep the score.

Speaker 3 (02:05):
One nail Zac Stephan fantastic save.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
And that's the kind of thing you need from the
Rapids in those moments, some desperate defending and some big
time plays. You gotta think about your defending a little
bit right now and maybe for the next five to
six minutes, just try to condense things a little bit.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
Anali heed to the box, into the box, cuts to
the in line, left foot, chipped up back post on one.

Speaker 2 (02:35):
That's why Chris armis wanted to close things up a
little bit. He's just sensing this game a little bit
too stretched out, and it's just a long ball right
through the middle that the Rapids just don't deal with,
and Nali takes on Reggie Kennon. Kennon does a good
job of showing him to the end line, can't block
the cross. Zach Stefan kind of waves a hand at

(02:58):
it goes over his head, and Jack mc lynch just
sneaks behind Hafa Santos untouched and unmarked, and it's just
a tapping boy.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
Bond has been phenomenal for Houston. Thirty seconds left in
the minimum of six minutes, tied up at one. Dick's
Morning in his park up on its feet.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
Connor ronin right, but the ball sails.

Speaker 4 (03:21):
In the house is over the gold one in his
home debut, the Burgady board packs to Aaron said, finds
the back of the that the Rappids are gonna take
all three points.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
And look at the celebrations, everybody in the corner with
packs and Aaronson, including his jersey, and it didn't look
like it.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
Was gonna happen.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
He just gets a head on it, getting across his
defender and the ball goes up in the air.

Speaker 3 (03:59):
Nobody was on the back post for the Dynamo.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
Bond was never getting to it, and it just seemed
to take forever to get to the net.

Speaker 3 (04:07):
But it did.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
And I said, his name Conger about ten minutes ago.
Will Paxon Aaronson step up and put the team on
his back? It's what he's been brought in to do.
And he said, I will. It'll be off a corner
kick that I redirect in, but I will put the

(04:30):
team on my back.

Speaker 3 (04:32):
And has he just won it for.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
The Rapids a huge three points if he did.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
The six minutes of minimum stompage time are up. As
Navajo gets around. Our tour, Our tour is on a
yellow card. Gone, it's gotta be a second yellow. Our
tour is out of here. At the very end of
this one. Dynamo down to ten and that's gonna be

(05:00):
the last kick of the match. The red cards shown
to our tour after the second yellow. Aaronson the winner
in his home debut for Colorado.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
Unbelievable.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
Two to one, Rapids plus three in your bank account.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
Unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
Indeed, it just I don't know if you agree con Her.
It just felt like the Rapids, we're gonna win this match.
The last ten to fifteen minutes, the pressure was just building.
They were too good, their rest defense was too good,
their willingness to suffer and just continue to throw waves
and waves of attack at the dynamo. Every sub came

(05:45):
in and made a difference, which you loved to see.
And it was just a matter of time and six
minutes was exactly what they needed.

Speaker 3 (05:57):
We want to say thank you so much for listening.
Colorado two Houston one plus three for the Rapids. Drew
More was your color Cole Smith, your engineer, kJ and Burdo.
Back at the studio, I'm Connor Cape just want to
say thank you so much for joining us.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
We'll see you next Saturday from Toyota Stadium when the
Rampids take on FC Dallas. It's Colorado Rapids Soccer on

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
