Londra, 1888: nel quartiere povero di Whitechapel, tra fumo e miseria, iniziano una serie di brutali omicidi di prostitute. Il primo corpo, Martha Tabram, viene trovato pugnalato 39 volte. Segue Mary Ann Nichols, con la gola squarciata e organi mancanti. Annie Chapman viene sventrata e lasciata con oggetti accanto al corpo. Poi tocca a Elizabeth Stride e Catherine Eddowes, uccise la stessa notte. La polizia, impotente e criticata, brancola nel buio. Un assassino misterioso, che firmerà come “Jack lo Squartatore”, sconvolge Londra e rimane imprendibile, lasciando dietro di sé una lunga scia di sangue e paura.
