Toren van Babel is een maandelijkse serie binnen de Architectenweb Podcast. Hierin praat architect Daan Roggeveen (MORE Architecture) met ontwerpers, ontwikkelaars en andere experts die allemaal hun eigen perspectief hebben op hoogbouw. Doel is het antwoord vinden op de vraag: hoe maak je nu een echt goed hoog gebouw? De gast deze maand is architect Francesco Veenstra, Rijksbouwmeester en mede-oprichter en partner van Vakwerk Architecten.
In de podcast gaat Francesco in op de ruimtelijke opgaven waar Nederland voor staat, gezien vanuit zijn positie als Rijksbouwmeester. We spreken over de rol van het College van Rijksadviseurs en de zojuist benoemde nieuwe leden van het college – de nieuwe collega’s van Francesco.
We praten over de Nederlandse traditie van de ruimtelijke ordening en over de lange tijdshorizon – honderd jaar – waarop dit College van Rijksadviseurs heeft ingezet. We hebben het ook over de breedte van het werk van een Rijksbouwmeester – en wat de instrumenten zijn die hij heeft om in te zetten. Wat is de status van de adviezen van een Rijksbouwmeester? En we spreken over het huidige gefragmenteerde politieke landschap, en hoe daarin als Rijksbouwmeester te opereren. En over de vraag of we niet te gefocust zijn geraakt op het proces in plaats van het resultaat?
En natuurlijk hebben we het over de woningbouwopgave. Waar moeten al die extra woningen komen: in de bestaande stedelijke gebieden of in de wei? We hebben het over het meenemen van de ‘reële waardering’ en ‘echte kosten’ bij het ‘bouwen in de wei’. En over de vraag hoe hoger bouwen en verdichten past in de ruimtelijke opgaven waar Nederland voor staat. Luisteren dus!
