Toren van Babel is een maandelijkse serie binnen de Architectenweb Podcast. Hierin praat architect Daan Roggeveen (MORE Architecture) met ontwerpers, ontwikkelaars en andere experts die allemaal hun eigen perspectief hebben op hoogbouw. Doel is het antwoord vinden op de vraag: hoe maak je nu een echt goed hoog gebouw? De gast deze maand is Aldo Trim, managing architect bij KAAN Architecten.
In deze podcast vertelt Aldo Trim over een sequentie van drie binnenstedelijke hoogbouwprojecten waar KAAN Architecten de laatste jaren aan werkte: de Zalmhaven, SPOT en Lumière.
Allereerst de Zalmhaven. Aldo vertelt over de herstart van dat project in 2016 en hoe het bureau daarbij nauw samenwerkte met Dam & Partners en ook van dat bureau leerde. We praten over de snelheid van het ontwerpproces van de Zalmhaventorens, vanwege veranderende regelgeving, en over de verschillende bouwmethoden die werden toegepast in het project.
In het verlengde van de Zalmhaven werkte Aldo aan SPOT in het transformatiegebied Amstel III in Amsterdam. We bespreken het ontstaan van het initiatief voor SPOT en wat voor stedenbouwkundige benadering daar bij past. Aldo vertelt over de rol van ontwerpers in een dergelijke transformatie, en over het verschil tussen sturen op proces en het sturen op eindbeeld. En we gaan in op de visie van supervisor Don Murphy voor het gebied.
Tenslotte vertelt Aldo over het plan Lumière in Rotterdam, waarvoor de gemeenteraad onlangs het bestemmingsplan heeft vastgesteld. Het plan draait niet alleen om de toren van 155 meter hoog, maar vooral ook om de inpassing in de complexe stedelijke context. Het gebouw bevindt zich in het monumentale Lijnbaanensemble, tussen Gebouw Weena en het Cityhouse – beiden van Maaskant. Aldo vertelt over het tot stand komen van het ontwerp, en hoe wind en bouwsnelheid het proces danig hebben beïnvloed. En hij legt uit hoe dit hoogbouwproject met name draait om de inpassing op het maaiveld.
