This is the Art Beauty podcast where weare always reaching for truth in beauty.
Remember, the brands of the people on the show
are not paying to be here,so we get to ask them the questions
we know you want answeredbecause you deserve to be informed
so you can make the best choicesfor yourself.
With that said, I'm Amber Mills, and todaymy fabulous co-host is Angela Caglia.

(00:21):
She is an estheticianand has worked on some of the most
famous faces, everybody from MinnieDriver to Helena Christensen.
The list goes on and on.
I'm so honored to have her here today.
We're going to be talking a little bitabout stem cells and also
dive into her amazing linea little bit later in the show.

(00:42):
But before we get into all that, welcome to the show, Angela.
How you doing today?
I'm doing great.Thank you, Amber, for having me.
I'm so honored to be here.
I know you're actually in your treatmentroom in L.A..
I'm in Beverly Hills.
In my Beverly Hills, sipping my coffee.
I have a client in an hour and I'm justsuper excited to do this first.
my goodness.
I wish. You know,it is so cold in New York.

(01:04):
I'm just so over this weather.
But, you know, spring I actually saidto my husband the other day,
we've made it every year around this time, generally it's like in
March and like we made it throughanother winter.
Well, who
But in Beverly Hills,I feel like it's always sunny, right?
It is. And that's why I go to New Yorkonce a month to do clients.
So I get that fix.

(01:24):
Like I need that too.So it's nice to have those.
Well, I'mso honored to have you on here today.
I know that you have over 30 yearsin practice and extensive knowledge.
And, you know, I've donesome recent podcasts talking about
exosomes and skincare.
And I know that in your skincare lineyou're using stem cells.
And I was wondering if we could justsort of start by giving us

(01:46):
a little brief primeron what are stem cells?
How are they different than Exosomes?
Yeah, yeah, this is fun.
So yeah, I'll start.
And also just to be
I'll talk about it later, but there are no stem cells in my jar.
Stem cells would not last in a jar.
They wouldn't penetrate the skin.
So I'll get into that later.
It's actually what is the byproduct,
which is the real superheroof all of the growth factors in Exosomes.

(02:09):
Well, let me jump in to kind of the startand why and as dietician was first
to market to bring this proprietary
patented stem cell conditioned media, which is how we refer to it.
Well, I'm my my mother was diagnosedabout ten years ago with dementia
and, you know, stem cells are all the ragein regenerative medicine.
And I was lookingfor an alternative for her.

(02:32):
And I learned of a labthat was basically studying
and doing all sorts of FDA clinical trialsfor dementia,
Alzheimer's, epilepsy, long-covid,you name it.
So I came, I went there and met with herand the owner of the lab
and we really connectedand she was working on this, I'll call it
broth for wound healing.

(02:53):
And of course being an ingredient nerd.
I also have a certificatein scientific skin care formulation.
So this is my true passion.
I knew the efficacy of being stem cells
being injected into what she was doing, which is truly medical.
And I knew that there's somethingwe could do to apply to the skin,
which is our largest organ.
So we started working together.

(03:15):
And what's unique about this is that it'sderived from the mesenchymal stem cells.
But what is that?
When we're born, we're a ball of stemcells where a blood one
and we're the mesenchymal stem cellsjust filled with it.
The mesenchymal stemcell is the magic hero I like to call it.
It's the one that becomes your heart, your hair, your skin,

(03:35):
your liver, everything.
It becomes, it duplicates and becomes.
So as we age,you know, we're about four or five.
If we you know, scrape anyand hurt ourselves, it heals really fast.
And that'sbecause of the regenerative power
of all those mesenchymal stem cellsthat Russian to aid and repair.
I mean, our bodies are truly magnificent.

(03:56):
So as we age, unfortunately around
25, those mesenchymal stemcell count will decline.
And with thatyou start to see more signs of aging.
And I remember when I turned 25,I seen the eye wrinkles.
My skin was duller.
So that's about the timeeverything kind of starts.
And what's amazing about this product
is that we are and I'll tell youthe process as well, how we derive it.

(04:18):
What's amazing about this product isyou can apply it topically morning
and night and it can be preventative25 years old when it starts to happen.
And then it's also regenerative.
When you're my ageand you can apply it to help
reduce the look of pigmentation,it's really remarkable what it does,
which we'll go into later.
But I hope that answered your questionand I can go into more detail, too.

(04:38):
Well, thank you.
I mean, clearly you are, like I said,so knowledgeable on the subject and,
you know, I guess for those of us at home, when we hear stem cells,
I think that there'sbeen some controversy.
You know, why do you think that that is?
And there's some beensome questions about safety in using

(05:01):
well, maybe not
even stem cells, but the byproductsthis condition media from stem cells.
Why do you think that there'sthere's such confusion in that?
Actually,there's there's a lot less than I thought
there would be when launching the product, which is I'm very grateful for.
But yeah, there's always someonewho would think that,
it's going to do something crazy, which is just any ingredient.
But what's unique about it is our process.

(05:23):
So I wouldn't launch thisinto the marketplace unless it was safe.
And, you know, about 11 years agowhen I was first introduced
to mesenchymal stemcell conditioned media,
I'll tell you all the safety processeswell to it,
there was a serum that launchedand I was working at Ulta Henriksen
Spa in West Hollywood, and the new owner brought it on.
It was $300 like 11 years ago, which was a lot of money.

(05:44):
That was like $700 at the time.
And it had human stemcell conditioned media
and it was this kind of clear liquid.
And we were told to sell itbecause the new owner
loved the margin of it, obviously.
So we were selling it and we had very highend clients and they were like, wow.
And we knew it was from stem cellconditioned media,
but it was derived from baby foreskinfrom a woman in San Diego.

(06:06):
So very strange way to derive it.
And the company went out of businessquite quickly
because of the controversial waythey were deriving.
It's supposed to be some womanin a bathroom.
I don't know what was happening, but I do remember the efficacy.
So fast forward to mecontinuing my career and I had a client
who used to go to see me thereand he loved the product
and he's a straight writer in Los Angeles, very successful.

(06:30):
And he was just like Angela, you need toI see your line, but please
launch a babypenis line. And I was just like, I.
Love it.
But he remembered the efficacy.
So I kept hearing thatin the back of my head.
And then fast forward to my mombeing diagnosed with dementia
and going into this incredibleresearch center of real human stem cell.
All FDA cleared is a GMP certified lab.

(06:53):
Most contract manufacturers are just CGM.
I'm sorry, just GMP. This is CE GMP.
This is medical grade.
They have a research armwhere they're doing all sorts of things.
So fast forward to that and learninghow it was derived, which I can go into.
It's derived from adiposetissue, one teaspoon from the waist
because fat actually protectsthat adipose, the mesenchymal stem cell

(07:17):
quite well, which makes senseand it just is very strong.
So there's it's derived one teaspoonfrom healthy consenting adults
with FDA cleared.
We chuckle that I don't checkbut the lab checks
all of their history, their health, everything is documented, cleared.
And what happens is the plastic surgeonremoves one teaspoon and from that one

(07:38):
teaspoon of fat you can derive a millionmesenchymal stem cells.
Now we have a patented processand I'm going to demonstrate
with you to see the patented process.
Looks like this.
This is a little flaskwith a liquid inside what the lab does in
hazmat suits with a huge walland just all just like sci fi,

(08:01):
they put the stem cells here, they, they extract it from the teaspoon of that.
They apply them hereand they stick to the bottom.
And with this liquid inside,it's called the conditioned media.
What the stem cells do,they sink to the bottom.
They drink and excretealmost like body like conditions,
and they duplicate and with our patentedprocess, we're able to duplicate

(08:21):
to 22 million mesenchymal stem cellsfrom that one extraction.
And it's all hand done, which is very unique.
So you can see through this flaskand you can see the viability of them.
And the best part is they are DNA free.
So there is no human DNA,which is a safety concern.
There's absolutely no human DNAbecause everything is duplicated
and it's not the stem celland everything is certified.

(08:43):
So it's a topical applicationand you ask what they excrete.
And that is really the magic.
It's not the stem cell,
it's what they drink and excrete, which is what goes in all of the proteins.
And we've counted upto 10,000 proteins of growth factors,
all the things that other brandsduplicate in a lab writing.
The other doctor brands are like,Let me do a peptide.

(09:03):
Well, a peptide is just a building blockto a protein.
We have over 10,000 proteins here.
We have that.
Same with growth factors and exosomesand we can talk about the exosomes because
that is something I do want to touch on,but it's growth and there's over 10,000.
They countedand we have all the clinical studies
on the power of the mesenchymal stemcell in anti-aging, applying it topically.

(09:24):
So, you know, going back to this idea of safety,
I think you hit on two things for peoplewho are listening to this because either
they've tried your productsor they want to try your products.
And again, I'm not a doctor, but
from what I've heard, talking to yourself,
to some of these other expertsin this field of regenerative medicine
is that you want to look for a brandthat is associate with a lab

(09:48):
that is doing some sort of clinical workwhere their labs and their procedures
are all being regulated by the FDAbecause we know right now the FDA is not
and it's unfortunate, does not reallyregulate the use of these ingredients
in cosmetic procedures, although I hope that changes soon.

(10:08):
Yeah, and there's a differencebetween injecting you
inject exosomes in your faceand applying it topically.
So yeah, I mean, it's completelyit's it's a GMP certified lab.
I mean, you can eat on the floor. It's huge.
And the guy wouldn'tlike that. Not very much. So,
you know, I just.
Gave them $5 million because they havea research arm and 1% of all my proceeds

(10:31):
go to a fund to support dementiain honor of my mother, who passed in June.
So there is a connection here for me.
It's not just let's just throw this out.
It's like, let me get back, because the power
of the mesenchymal stem cell, it's doingso many things in regenerative medicine
in terms of where you can't operatelike brain issues like in Asia.
So 1% will go to that fundto help for research for that.

(10:53):
And I'm also getting the word out aboutthe power of the missing camel stem cell,
which feels good in launching this productand also being like this magic source.
I mean, you know,
it's been so exciting for me.
And while
I was so excited to have you on here isthat there are we're starting to see this,
you know, talk about stemcells, stem cell condition, media exosomes

(11:14):
We're starting to see this sort of a boomthat has been coming from,
you know, the traditional medical fieldof regenerative medicine
and now translating into skin care.
I think it's a very, very exciting time.
You know, can we touch quickly, though, because there are a lot of brands
you mentioned before, some brandswill use just a peptide, just as
there are some brandswho use sort of these like

(11:36):
plant stem cells
to tell us about those.
What are your thoughts on those?
Well, I'm very patientbecause I still work on women
and I get very frustratedwith all the marketing of a lot of brands
because something may be very expensiveand it'll say stem cell.
And there's even doctor brandsthat say they have a stem
cell product or the brands that have stemcell in their name, you assume it's

(12:00):
stem cell, but you look at the backand you dig for the full ingredients.
Some brands do even put the fullthey put marketing ingredients. Keep
a plant.
STEM cell is greatif your plants like it's never going to do
what this does and it'sonly an antioxidant is what it is.
So for me, it's it's quite frustrating.
I wish it was more regulation on that.

(12:22):
It's kind of misleading.
Yeah.
Plant stem cells are fabulous if you'rean orchid or if you're an apple, great.
But in terms of real regenerationof the skin,
I mean, the mesenchymal stem cellbecomes your skin.
And even if you compared this productto platelet derived that,
that's a blood that's not the sameas a mesenchymal stem cell.
So we have a lot of more proteins
and regeneration powerwith the mesenchymal stem cell.

(12:45):
So and I also wanted to combine itwith the best of synthetic.
So I'm not knocking syntheticexosomes and growth factors and peptides.
I'm not at all those work, but I wanted to use the real
and then I also wanted some of those
because I wanted to createthe most powerful anti-aging serum ever.
And I also add a different hydratorI want wanted different levels

(13:06):
of hyaluronic acid because it's a rip offto go buy a $300 hyaluronic acid serum.
And I get that's all it does is hydrate.
So I put those in and I also addedsnow mushroom, which as you know,
is ten times more hydratingthe finding out than hyaluronic acid.
So I kind of just double upwith what I do.
Like I wanted. This is hydration. This is hydration.
This as the efficacyof this real growth factors.

(13:28):
And then I wanted the best of syntheticand put it all together in a bottle.
So we've talked a little
bit about what mesenchymal stem cells areand some of the things
that they can do when it comes to applyingthis topically to our skin.
What is it doing there?
Well, I have clinicals on my website.
We have impressive clinicals and beforeand after is.
But what it does

(13:49):
is basically you're putting back insomething your skin recognizes, right.
That depletes as we age.
So we're putting in thousands, thousands of growth
factors of proteins, which are peptides to building blocks.
And we also have all of the Exosomesand Psycho, which causes inflammation.
So what it's done for my face,I had two dark spots here from the sun

(14:09):
and I've always told my clients,
you're never going to buy a product overthe counter that will remove pigmentation.
You need to go to your derm, you need toget IPL, don't waste your money.
Month threeI looked in my bathroom and I'm 52.
I had a spot here and here there for yearsand it was gone.
Right. I think goes from driving.
But I got and I grabbed my phone andjust did a video because I was in shock.

(14:32):
So it makes sense because it's going injust like it does
for regenerative medicineto go in and regenerate the photo aging.
So it helps you look younger.
I have a vibrance to my skin hydration.
My skin feels thicker.
It's unbelievable.And I don't wear makeup.
I get Botox once a year on my birthday.
And this yearI didn't do it because of this.
It's trulyI mean, your skin looks amazing.

(14:54):
Yes, it does.
I have great, great skin.
I have good skin, but never great.
And now I feel like it's great.
Like it feels like I'm 12 years old again
because it's hydrated,it's thick and it's bright.
And I was even offered, like to go get laser
for free in Beverly Hills by a surgeon.
And I felt I should say yes, I said yes,and then I canceled.

(15:14):
I'm like, I can't because I don't wantto mess up my skin.
Literally, it's in perfect condition.
And that's what this was.
It makes it healthier, regenerates.
It's skin longevity, it's skinregeneration, everything that we deserve,
that retinol and vitamin C'sare not giving us.
Really.
So do you think, you know, before we discuss,

(15:34):
you know, in detail the products, like when people are hearing things about,
you know, stem cell skincare, are there anything that you want
to sort of warn people about thingsthat they should be looking for?
Yeah, I mean, make sure it's itdepends on what you're looking for.
If you're looking for an inexpensiveantioxidant, then by all means,

(15:55):
get those plant stemcells in terms of something
that has a condition, media elementsor stem cell condition media a lot.
There's like two or three other labsin the country, and they will do it
in a big vats, kind of like making wine, the big stainless steel.
And that's how the skincare productsare made usually and what they'll do.

(16:16):
The stem cells are very delicateand they clump and stick
and you can't seebecause there's a big vat,
but they're trying to get a tonof the stem cell condition media fast.
So if you see a productthat's significantly cheaper than mine
that has stem cell condition area, it'sbecause of the process.
As I showed you, this is the actual flaskfrom the stem cell research lab.
I asked her if I could take it.

(16:36):
So this is very all done by handand they can look in
because it's clear and they can seethe viability of the stem cells.
And you want it to be a GMP certified lab.
My I was mentioningbefore that my lab has also an arm,
which I'm donating 1% for strokeand dementia in honor of my mom.
But the government
just gave them $5 millionfor research on traumatic brain injury,

(16:59):
so they're injecting theirmesenchymal stem cell into the brain.
So it's just such an incredible labthat there's such a safety
that I feel so good aboutand such a potency with this patented.
Nobody else has patentedstem cell conditioned media,
which is unique as well.
And that's because of the process.
How we're able to get 22 millionmesenchymal stem cells.
So it's very protein rich, lots of growthfactors. Amazing.

(17:21):
Now, you know, we would be remiss tonot mention, you know, the price of this.
So yeah, to you, you know.
It's science meets luxuryand it's 395 retail and it's one ounce.
And the reason it's 395,this replaces your vitamin C,
this replaces your retinol,it replaces your hyaluronic acid.
It's literally just a three in one.

(17:42):
And also with super coolis the process like this
this patented stem cell conditionedmedia is has to be kept frozen
and this is a partof what you're looking for with a lab.
So this has to be kept frozen for thatexosome to remain stable.
So my lab cryo freezesthis once it's it's ready, like here
it is, and it's sent on ice, frozento my contract manufacturer.

(18:06):
Formulator, who's one of the best in the country
with experienceworking with stem cell conditioned media.
And he keeps it frozen until he's ableto stabilize it and put it in the bottle.
So no other product has thatwhere you're sending it
frozen acrossand you know, there's anyway.
That's why it's expensive.
You know, you bring up something importantwhen we get this home like

(18:27):
do weneed to worry about the stability of this?
Are there places we should be storing it?
Probably not in a bathroomor like not on your windowsill on the sun?
Or does it not matter.
What's nice about all of my skin carecollection is like,
how is it in black glass?
Black glass to protect from U.V. lights?
Some people are like,Why are you have black glass?
Well, there's a reason.It's it's really cool and pretty.

(18:48):
But it also everything is in that darkblack glass to protect
and keep it stable longer.
But this is stabilized for 15 months.
I look at most in the world.
So he's alwaysI mean, it's completely stable.
You don't need to refrigerate it at all.
Now, I have become a huge fan.
You know, you mentioned before,
you don't need the vitamin C,you don't need the retinol.
What really got me aboutwhen I started using Exosomes

(19:09):
and I listen I used to use tinstance is embryonic derived.
I can tell you the differencethat's fibroblast stem
cell media, which is collagen skin.
So it's differentfrom the mesenchymal stem cells.
So this is actually has more proteins andmore regenerative and does more things.
We have that skin in ours alreadybecause it created this.

(19:33):
So when I started using thatand then I was
using Alevi and I've used platedand now I'm using your skin care,
One of the things that I found that I loveis, is that I can't use retinol.
Retinol for me.And I know it's the gold standard.
And working in beauty, everybody's like,What do you mean you don't use retinol?
My skin just doesn't tolerate it well, and I've tried ramping it up.

(19:55):
Yeah, I think
it's a really tough thing to kind ofget through in the retinol uglies,
but I have found thatI don't think I need that when I'm using
sort of these
higher tech products.
Yeah, I mean, this is going to blowretinol out of the water.
The bigger this gets, no one'sgoing to ever want to touch retinol again.

(20:15):
I hate to say it, but it's true.
And it's it's time for this generationto have something new
that is regenerative, that keeps your skin healthy.
There's no downtime where you just, you know, start to feel better.
So it's it's the best of biotech scienceand it's super exciting.
So tell us a little bit about, you know,we kind of have been talking about okay.
But but the self forte serum.
So as you mentioned, this hasyour patented mesenchymal condition media.

(20:40):
Did I say that right.
Yeah.
Condition media's the broth.
Yeah, the broth. Okay.
And you also mentioned there are exosomespeptides, proteins in here.
So what is the rightway for us to be using this?
Apply it
firstto skin religiously morning and night.
So even if you are just addictedto your retinol,
you're not going to let it goor you're getting laser,

(21:01):
you're getting all sorts of things.
This is regenerative.
So if that is kind of burning your skinoff or whatever you're doing,
please use thisbecause you want this even more,
but you just apply itmorning and night. It's really light.
It goes right into the skin. It's a treatment.
And the thing is, you have to beconsistent to get the results right.
If you want thewow factor, you just keep using it
and pretty soon you see the resultsand the all of a sudden you're addicted.

(21:22):
I have like Helena Christensentexting me saying, Angela,
I need to join Cell 14 Anonymousbecause I'm running low
and I'm freaking out and I've got peoplethat buy like three bottles at a time.
It's just it's a frenzy. It's crazy,
you know?
Is it like a couple drops to the face?
Yeah.
Let's first, you know,
you want to put a few dropsin your fingers

(21:43):
cause you don't want to put that drop heron your face for any product
because you're going to have bacteriaand then you put it back in the jar.
So you don't want it everto touch your face.
You want to put in your fingersand then apply.
Thank you so much for saying that.
I see.
You know, and I have to say, when I was doing some research,
I saw some people who are doing reviewsand they're putting and it's just like,
listen, I did it, too.
And when that trendfirst came out on Tik Tok, I did it

(22:05):
and somebody showed me and I was like, you're so right.
You don't want to be putting anything.
So also don't touch itto your hands, right?
You want to put this in, wash your hands.
But also don't you don't need to touchthe dropper to your hands.
And so you're using this twicea day, morning and night.
And how, you know, listen,we are a results driven society.
How how soon do you think beforepeople start to notice a difference?

(22:28):
That's exciting partbecause we are results
driven and the results are quite quick.
I have some people that within two days, like I think I'm seeing a difference
and then I have two weeks.
my God.
And then a month like, you know,So it's, it's, it's fast because.
Yeah, think about it.
What it is. It'snot just something coating your skin.
It's something that's going inand regenerating.
There's a difference quite quickly.
And now when.

(22:48):
Everybody though everyone's.
Different, when you are incorporating this product.
Right, wherehow does it play with other products
in terms of, you know, you know, we've talked before with
some of the other brands, some of the X, some brands,
and we know thatlike Exosomes and stem cell,
like they can be very fragile.

(23:10):
So or these ingredients can be fragile.
So is this something thatyou should not use with anything else?
You know, you can use it with anything.
It's not fragile. It goes into your skin.
But I do want to touch on you know, there's a lot of controversy with Exosomes
being because like like I said, it hasto be sent fresh, frozen to my chemist.

(23:31):
So some of these other brandsmay say they have exosomes,
but they might not inside really, because if they're not stable,
they're not working.
So you have to make sureit's a reputable lab
selling you something because the wordexosome is thrown out everywhere.
It's a hot topic, but in essencethe exosome is just like the
the envelopeand the good stuff is the letter.

(23:53):
Inside is the growth factor.
So people, in my opinion, are talkingtoo much about Exosomes
and should talk more aboutthe actual mesenchymal stem cell condition
media, which has everything, not just one piece.
Okay,But if we wanted to, you know, listen,
for those of us who are like, okay, I'mon a budget, I'm going to purchase this,
obviously,I'll have this beautiful soufflé
that goes along with it, which is amoisturizer that you can follow with.

(24:16):
But we could use this
with other we could put
an SPF over this in the morningand not have to worry about it.
for sure. Yeah. Yeah.
My moisturizer. $70, by the way.
So I'm not like a huge, expensivebrand if I don't have to be.
But this this cell Forte's sub to create.
It is so beautiful.
I feel like like I said before,my skin just drinks this right up.

(24:40):
So what what's in the souffle?
Yeah, that one has one pretty.
Every one of my products has won awards.
The Self Forte won three awards already.
It launched in October.
The souffle has goatmilk. It has zero fragrance.
No silicones.
Please don't use a product with siliconesover the self forte because it just
it's a barrier that just locks everythingin and get bacteria.
It's just I can't believepeople still use silicones in products.

(25:02):
But yeah, seewhat the purest products to put on top.
I actually just was doing somethingwith Newbeauty.
We did a show this week.
I learned a lot about goat milk, so goatmilk is very similar to human skin.
So therefore that's why it's not greasy.
Yeah, yeah.
And I have a lipidlike technology goes deeply into the skin,
mimics our own sebum, which we lose as we age as well.

(25:24):
So yeah, that one best moisturizer, cosmopolitan, the self forte one
one of the best skin care productsby Birdy this year right after launch
and also Elle magazineit won the future beauty award
and there's a couple of awards
that I can't mention that it's already onethat's under embargo to amazing.
I can't wait to hear all about that.
You know, Angela, before we letyou go, we're going into spring right now,

(25:48):
you know, coast to coast.
Do you have any just general sortof skincare tips that you give to people?
I mean,
you know, the new season, go get a facial, you know, refresh your skin.
That's always important. Every quarter.
You know, keep your sunscreen on.
Less is more.
You know, it's just the basic stuff.
But my whole philosophy is don't disruptyour barrier

(26:09):
if you're using productsthat are disrupting your barrier.
You know, in the winter, it'sgoing to be even more disrupted.
So just try to keep your barrieras healthy as possible.
And if your productsthat are sensitizing it,
then you need to switch your products.
I love that you said that
sometimes people are like,No, I'm just trying to get it to work.
And I'm like, gosh, you know.
Put it on your handsand your body. Don't waste it.
Just put it somewhere else

(26:29):
and make sure disrupting your skin, your barrier, your face.
That's a great idea.My sister maintenance.
So my sister is a makeup artist, and she told me once she was like,
you know, if there's somethingthat doesn't work here, but, you know
that it's got really good ingredients, try it somewhere.
Yeah, don't. Waste it somewhere else.
All right,
Angela, if people want to comeand see you, if they want to know

(26:49):
more about your fabulous line, where can they go?
Yeah, just go to my website.
