(00:01):
This is the Art Beauty podcast, where we are
always reaching for truth and beauty.
Remember the people on the show?
We're not paying to be here,
so we get to ask them the questionswe know you want answered.
So you can make the best decisionsfor yourself.
With that said, I'm Amber.
Today,my fabulous co-host is Jennifer Hanway.
She is a board certified, holistic
nutritionist, friend of the show,Just an incredible person.
(00:23):
And we're going to have a little bitof a different show today
because I'm actuallygoing to let her be in the driver's seat.
Got to be honest, I'm a little bit nervousbecause normally I'm
running the show, but I'm excitedbecause they know I'm in great hands.
How are you doing, Jen?
I am good and I am so excited for today.
And this came aboutbecause you're my go to when I have
(00:46):
nitty gritty beauty questionsor makeup questions on skin care and like
DM'd.
Amberis like, everybody needs this information.
I love that.
So we get to flip the scripta little bit, you know, before we start,
and then I willturn the reins over to you.
This is our last podcast of the year.
We're going to take the next two weeksoff, you know, because I believe
(01:07):
that everybody should be focused on familyand themselves.
Enjoy the holiday season.
For some of us, it's not so easy.So I hear you.
I feel you. I see you too.
But I do want to say before we go, justI appreciate everybody listening.
Thank you for being with us this year.
And it's just amazing.
And I do hope that everybody doeshave at least a tolerable holiday season.
(01:28):
Okay.
With that said, I want to turn it over toJanelle who has questions they don't know
the answer to, but or I'm sorry,I don't know what you're going to ask.
So I go, I don't know.
Take it away, guys. I'm going to get serious
answers.
I've got my list of questions.
You are not going to go away easily. Okay.
So let's keep it simple to start with.
(01:49):
What is your current skincare routine?
I say keep it simple.
What does your current skincare routinelook like?
Morning and evening is that thingsthat you do weekly, monthly give us?
So. Betty.
my gosh, I am so glad.
And by the way,I have so much stuff in front of me
right here, just in case you askedso I would remember.
Okay.
So morning skincare routine, you know, working with Newbeauty
(02:12):
magazine, working on this podcast,I get to try a lot of products.
My apartment looks like an Ulta, but
and there are so many great productsout there,
but there are things that I keep goingback to all the time.
So believe it or not, for cleanser, rightnow I'm using the survey.
For me, cleanseris like it needs to take off the makeup.
(02:34):
I also love Sephora's
waterproof eye makeup removerfor when I'm wearing eye makeup.
So but cleanser I look,
I always say for me,I like to spend the money on the things
that are going to be like on my skinthe longest or, you know, whatever.
So a cleanser survey is great.
It's inexpensive,it's dermatologist, recommended created.
(02:55):
So I love that.
And then
I'll see, moisturizer.
So I'm a big person at nightwith moisturizer.
I loving actually two productsbefore I get to the moisturizer.
This is a new one.
We had them on our podcast L-O-V-E.
It's their infinity exosome serum.
(03:16):
I am obsessed with this.
I've been using this nowfor a couple of months and I find that
I have pretty good skin to begin with, but I find that
the Exosomes have really helped to keep iteven more clear.
It does smell disgusting.
I'm just warning everybody.
It is not that like, ooh, luxury treatment. But.
(03:36):
But this is the serumthat I keep going back to retinol.
I have a love hate with them.
I know that they're the best thing to use,
but I have a really hard timewith getting over the retinol uglies.
Do you use retinol?
I use it exactly the same.
I have super sensitive skin and it's
I can't get through that whole uglyperiod.
(03:59):
Yeah.
And then when I use it occasionally,
then I just wake upsuper dry the next morning.
So a tiny bit occasionally.
But hang on,I want to go back a couple of steps.
I told you I wanted to see Christie. Okay.
Okay.
Sarah Very cleanser.
Yes. You're using a washcloth.
You're taking that off with water.
What are you how are you using that now?
(04:19):
I mean, I know I use the good old hands.
Yeah.
And for me, I remove my makeupevery night of the year.
Like that is the thing. No matter.
And I hate to say thisbecause I know you're like, no alcohol is
good, but, like, I don't care how wastedI am, I'm always taking off my makeup.
Maybe once a year I'll wake up with it on.
(04:41):
It was a really great night, but I'm always taking it off, so
I will do that.
Just squeeze it.
My hands washed my hands and then I.
I use my shower towel to drive my face.
I know how disgusting that is.
I know I'm a dirty I'm a dirty birdy,but that's just what I do.
I'm going to have these clean towelsthat I tried, but I
(05:05):
just reach for towel.
Have to reach for my husband's towel too.
Don't tell Dad how I'm okay.
So we're taking the makeup off.
We put on the stinky Exosomes.
Yes, Thank you. Because they work.
You know,
sometimes the when something smells likethe worse it takes, the better for it.
It's for you.
So. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
It's, you know, it's human derived,like that's, you know,
(05:26):
but it's a little bit less controversialthan some of the growth factors.
And I really encourage you, if you didn'tget to go check out that podcast.
I mean, Dr. Jordan Cruz is brilliant.
So yeah, that's kind of my sound
and then my splurge for moisturizer
is not herbicide.
I love surgery.
(05:47):
Talking there is pretty charismatic, but
I have a friend at the company,so she she will, she will
she helps me out with that.
So now I'm not going to it,
but I really I just I like the feel.
I like the smell. It smells like a spa.
But I think that, you know, what I would tell everybody
(06:09):
in working in skincare for so long, unless you have something super
problematic like rosacea acne, like reallyserious skin conditions, that really
you should go to a dermatologistand have a special program set up for you.
If you are looking for a moisturizer,
you don't have to spend a lot.
(06:30):
There are amazing moisturizers.
Olay is a fabulous moisturizerwith so much R&D behind it.
And I always like to tell peopleyou're not going to get in a bottle
what you will and the needle, what you will from a knife.
And that's just the truth.
So, I mean, there are amazing companies, but these are too expensive.
They're they're expensive products.
Both of these I think this is like200 and this is maybe like
(06:53):
four.
You don't need to do that.
You don't like these arethese are products that I, I like.
But I don't thinkthat you have to do that.
I think that you can get wonderful skincare.
More importantly is in the morning, SPF
every day, every day, every dayand in the morning, a lot of the times
(07:15):
I don't wash my face with cleanser againbecause I will
just do like a rinse. And,
you know, unless I'm going somewhereand I have to do the whole shower
and then in the shower is always wash.
But like in the morning,if it's just like a normal day
and I'm sitting here working at home,I just rinse it.
But then SPF every single day.
(07:36):
So before so you rinse deodorants.
Do you do anything before the SPF?
Do you do a vitaminC? Do you do anything else?
You know, I do like vitamin
C, You know, I'm so badif you saw my bathroom right now, it too.
There's like a thousand products there.
So sometimes I do.
And there's a lot of great vitamin Cserums out there.
(07:59):
But really, on most days,
like if I'm just going to be runningerrands around, it's the ties.
I like the tinted.
It has a beautifulit's a it's a mineral sunscreen.
So it's working immediately.
If I'm doing makeup like today.
It was a podcasting dayI used to supergoop
I would laughbecause it says clean chemical sunscreen.
(08:21):
It does have, you know,so avobenzone these chemicals
and its creams, we know they can bea little problematic avobenzone
being one of the less problematic, but it also has the other ones in there,
the Honma Sally, the optical light.
These are not
these are not great.
But you know what the best sunscreenis, one you're going to wear every day.
(08:42):
And this is one that I will put on,I think, makeup layers
beautifully on top of this.
And it's a smaller everybody.
You're not putting that on the whole ofyour body where you're going to absorb it.
That's one of the things that I kind of gowith.
Okay.
So that's your daily, daily.
What about is there anything you doon a weekly basis, a monthly basis?
(09:02):
Are you seeing what are you doing?
So, I don't have it here with me, but
I do love a like,
you know, those disposable maskswhen I really need a boost of hydration.
That said, if you're doing somethingwhere you have to wear makeup,
I never do them like before.
I'm going to be on camerabecause they do hydrate the face
and I find that then your makeup willyour face gets a little busy.
(09:26):
Yeah.
Yeah.So like, night before is really good.
Red light therapy.
You and I have talked about this before, and I have this one here.
So this is the mask that I am using.
It's the Delta eight is a medical.
It's an OTC classtwo device, FDA approved.
I just want to just for everybodywho has an HSA or FSA
(09:48):
and you need to spend money, you can spend it on this.
This is an FSA, HSA approved device.
That's the my last use of your
that's like the best use folds up.
So this I do you know I keep itso the thing about this particular
Mazo is it has to be plugged into the wiseI would show you
(10:08):
I like itbecause it's a three minute treatment.
It's got medical grade LEDs.
So I used the red.
It also has a blue light setting.
If you had acne, I used the red.
However, I just heard an interesting studythat they are finding
that blue light could potentially be.
It's great for acne, but
it can lead to hyperpigmentationor it can cause your melanocytes
(10:34):
to potentially produce more melanin.
So if you have a melanin issue, you know, hyperpigmentation issues,
you might want to be a little careful
with the blue light, but I use this on red light twice a day.
Also, another thing that I do that I,you know, one of my favorite
my favorite at-home beauty treatment, even more than that is Dermaplaning.
(10:58):
I sent you the derm. A flash? Yes.
To me.
Removing the vela's hair.
I call it lady shaving.
I know it also takes off dead skin, yadayada yada.
It makes you want to knowit removes the hair and then your makeup
and skin literally glow.
So the dermal flashwas the first one that I used.
(11:18):
And I feel like I said, I sent it to youbecause I was like, I'm upgrading.
I now use this from Stacked.
It is a straight razor.
Yeah, Yeah.
Looks good stuff on there. But yeah, so like.
You go up or down.
So I go both,
but I look at, I look at a ten x mirrorlike one of those really close mirrors
and kind of hold and go to down safer up.
(11:42):
But I mean I've done thisnow this I do once a week and you do.
Okay, so I have a lot of blades.
I, I subscribe to her.
I get them like on subscription
probably you should do it a new bladeevery time.
Again, because I'm good with this,I'll do twice, but after twice I have to
(12:03):
throw it out because you want to be usingsomething sharp and listen.
Even though I feel like I'mpretty experienced with this,
I will cut myselfprobably one out of every five times.
You know, it's not badbecause it's so sharp, but
proceed with caution.
But man, if you want your makeup and skinto look amazing.
Derma Plain.
(12:24):
You had it here. You heard it here.
Okay.
Another fun device that I just got, although
I'm mixed on this one is a dissolveweave wand.
I've seen it.
It seems a bit labor intensive.
So here's a thing, right?
It's got the red light.
It's got a little micro current going onthere, like four technologies in one.
(12:45):
I'm not going to
I'm mixed on Microcurrent.
I don't think that there's enoughproven science and literature
when you really dive into it.
I follow these guys. Dr.
Lee on YouTube and I love them.
It's two amazing doctorswho just will kind of go
through the medical researchof everything, and they too agreed
(13:05):
that there's not enough clinical science
behind Microcurrent devices.
That's what it is.
But what I do like about itis that I can sit on the couch.
It's a 12 minute thing, right?
And honestly, the red light from this,I know you're kind of passing it over.
It's not the same as having 3 minutesof dedicated red light.
Right?
I do like this because it feels great.
(13:27):
The massage.
And I found that
if I have puffy eyes in the morning, this will get rid of them immediately.
And it just feels good.
It's not like a little heat. But
again, I was sent this.
I think there were like about $100.
Is it $100 investmentthat you couldn't get from any other thing
to De Puffy your eyes? No,but I do like it.
I, I watch TV and.
(13:49):
I kind of like.
It's very easy to usebecause sometimes like this for 3 minutes.
I don't know about you.
You have to cover your eyeswhen you're doing any red light device.
So some of the masksthat have the eye openings like you,
that you can sit for 20 minutesand watch TV, you don't want to do that.
You need eye protection.
(14:10):
But for three, even for 3 minutes, sometimes I'm like, are you antsy?
It's like,I don't want 3 minutes of my life.
It's just you can't. Multitaskonce you're doing it.
Okay.
But I know that it worksand there's so much good science.
Again, the doctors have revealedthere's so much good science.
They've done double blind studieswhere people have done
red light therapy on one half of the faceand then on the other.
(14:30):
And they have done
they've basically
punctured and looked at the cellsand they find that
there are cellular changesthat happen with red light.
So the red light is work.
Okay, So we need that one. Okay.
So what are you doing on a regular basis
in this bar at the medical esthetics bar.
(14:50):
What are you.
What are those?
What is your Botox fillers?
What are all those things?
So Botox I do Botox every three monthssince I've been 35.
However,
when a caveat this oneI waited to start until I was 35.
I do suggest to peopleI see a lot of people starting young
(15:11):
and here for me first, the last time I had it,
and I don't know if you can see and hear, what I started to notice is when I smile,
I have very prominent forehead veinsand I looked back at pictures
and I was like,Wait a minute, I didn't have this.
The day before I went for Botox.
And my doctor did say that.
What if by relaxing that muscle and,you know,
(15:31):
the thinning of the skin,it can make the veins more pronounced?
So I might have to
stop the boat for a while.
I know
it's like a drop from, like, clothing.
I yeah, I, I'mlike it's like a heartbreaking for me
because I was like, Botox is great.
(15:52):
But yeah, so, you know, you want to be careful.
I also had a great podcastwith another skincare expert,
like a few months ago.
And you know, he was talking about Madonna
and she started developingall these bags underneath.
And it was from overuse of Botox.
So that's it?
No, no, no fillers
(16:13):
and considering sculpture.
But I'm
because I go to a dermatologistfor trust to recommend and he was like,
that'll be good for places.
However, sculpture is a fillerthat they cannot dissolve.
So you want to you know,
and he was actually like, good, it's good.
He's like,go to Ruzek because he's like, Dr.
Ruzek is just. So we are.
(16:34):
That's on my to do listso when I can get some downtime is
she is the only person that I'm going
to let do sculptureand we're going to do a little bit here.
you're going to do him.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
He was like called you.
And I love him.
He's friendly with her, but he was like, call Dr.
is because she does this. This is like her bread and butter.
And don't you love a practitionerwho will recommend another practitioner?
(16:56):
Yeah. Yeah.
It's like
this is not like I could do this, but someone else like that
makes you trust someone.
I think I trust him the most.
I mean, I just.
I love him and I love her, so,you know, that's a good.
But yeah, my facials, I don't really dowhen I'm offered them for press.
Sure.
But what I found with most facials andagain, I don't have very problematic skin
(17:20):
dealing with the fine lines, the aging, you know, the sort of normal stuff.
A lot of the extractions they leave,
I, I find that they will press too hard
sometimes it can leave some postinflammatory and hyperpigmentation.
So I'm yeah.
It's it's so hard to get a great facialnow when you get a great classic face
(17:45):
you're the last one I had was in Dallasas a little bit of a way for us.
When you get a great classic facial,it's like, Did you like that?
But trying to
find that great facial these daysI think is really challenging.
Yeah. I'm with you on that one.
Okay, so we talked a little bitabout things to save on
and things to splurge on.
(18:07):
So you would say probably that you save on
the things that you're going to wash off,so your cleanses, etc., etc.,
and then splurge on the thingsthat stay on your skin.
Yeah, well, yeah.
And the things, you know,
it's sort of like you have tolook at your overall beauty budget
and I'm going back to this.
It's, you know,
my mom will still call me and say, Hey,I saw this new cream
(18:29):
and it's going to do X, Y, and Z.
And it's like, listen, at this point, you'd be better off
buying,
you know, a good recommendedsomething like an all day
and then saving that money in your beautybudget to go do something like she loves
keratin for her hair right Like you'rejust not going to get in the bottle.
Not that you won't get results, right.
(18:50):
I mean, we've seen this and like, you know, these these expensive sort of
clinically backed productsdefinitely deliver results.
But the the visible differencethat you are going to see
is not going to be the sameas if you go get Botox.
It's just not so, you know,I think that it really depends.
But yes, in general, you know, likeif it comes to shampoo and conditioner,
(19:12):
if I have to decide which one, I'm goingto spend more money on the conditioner
or the treatment mask, because the shampoo is very important,
but you are washing it off.
That said, I did discover a great shampoo,
the seen hair.
Caroline I did a podcast with the doctorwho created that and
you know, I've got long hair through COVIDand having had it now three times,
(19:34):
I noticed a lot of shedding her productsand her shampoo
were developed and are clinically provento have less shedding.
And I have actually noticeda huge difference using her shampoo.
So, you know, getting that clumpwhen you clean out the shower.
Now, you know,
listen, there's still hair there, but it's not as much as it was.
I do love her Bay, though.
(19:55):
It smells so good. Smells so. Good.
Expensive, though.
So expensive.
And I think there are other better
products out there, but it smells like itand the like from in the shower.
Okay.
What have been
your absolute favorite finds of 2023?
So products, procedureslike what have you found in 2023
and you absolutely love to have it here.
(20:18):
Bloom ify.
so this is I mean.
What, you mean this? Yeah.
If there is one thing that I feel
like has a really game changed,it is luma fi.
If you have not tried theseand you put them in
your eyes are going to pop, they're going to be whiter.
I mean, this is not something I useevery day.
(20:41):
I'm always wary around the eyes, but certainly if I have an event to go to,
if I'm doing something on camera, man, does it make your eyes white?
Also, and this is not me lying.
I started working with Laura Gellerthis year
for QVC,and I've known her products forever.
She was on my podcast. We had this actual connection.
(21:03):
She was looking for a backup guestand lo and behold, it worked.
my gosh.
For women who are not 20 anymoreand even for the 20 year olds,
but like for women who are 30, 40, 50, 60.
My mother's in her seventies.
She started using Laura's productsand she was like, I look radiant.
Her products are amazing.
(21:24):
And I just. Skincare or makeup? Makeup.
It's makeup. Okay.
It's make that has beautiful skincareand ingredients in them.
Right.
So her balance and brighteningwhich is like the OG brush on powder
Foundation is sixpure pigment mixed with antioxidants.
I stop powder.
I start powder.
Right because powder for older women, you're like. It's
(21:48):
not. This.
You put this on and at the end of the day, your skin looks even better
than when you first put it on.
So some of that my way. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Hey, I'm.
I'm not I'm not just sayingthat I really And for me, the best
part of my job, being able to workwith her is believing in the products.
In fact, I just did a social videonot too long ago where I used her
(22:09):
cancel and cancel and conceal.
It's a redness under.
I go look at that on on social media.
There's no filters, there's no editing.
It's one shot where I show you one eyeand then the other and it's like, my God,
It just totally tone green. Yeah.
I'm coming back to that.
You can't when you've been in an industryas long as us,
(22:32):
which is crazy because we're in our 20.So how did that happen?
But when you've been in the industryfor as long as we have,
you can't fake being enthusiasticabout a product you just,
you know, straight awaywhen you have been asked
to talk about something and it is likegetting blown out of the stone
when you're trying to talk about somethingthat you do not believe in.
(22:53):
Yeah, it is.
And then, you know, you see all thesetiktokers and influencers who God bless.
I mean, but,you know, they'll do something sometime.
And I'm like, I can just tell like insideyou're cringing using this, right?
So yeah, yeah, yeah.
I'm, I'm loving her as anything elsethis year.
(23:15):
everything biohacking related, right?
So it's like, let's talk a little nerdy here.
I find that onand I listen to the listeners out there.
Biohacking does so well.
Anything with biohacking,I find that the audience is drawn to
some of these new longevity supplements.
I've piqued my interest, yes,
(23:36):
but I'm still a little bit, you know, the supplement world, as you know, it's
so challenging because you don't knowhow ingredients are sourced.
You don't know where they're made.
We can't go
into their labs and see this, you know, Soa lot of it is kind of based on reviews.
And a lot of these supplement committeeshave a lot of money behind them.
Right. So it's great marketing.
(23:57):
Yeah, there are two I tried Novos was one.
He was on my MySpaceand then Elysium, which I know you love.
Okay. Yeah.
It's you know, and it's the supplementpiece of the puzzle is so hard
because, yes,
even with all the supplements, there'sa ton of clinical research behind them.
But is that clinical research doneon the same population as you?
(24:20):
And everybodyis different on a cellular level.
And I think sometimes with skin care,
we know very quicklywho's going to have product design for us.
Like you might have something that worksgreat for you.
I try it on me, I get a breakout,I get redness, I'm going to stuff that
supplements.
We don't knowwhat is interacting with our body.
So it can be a challenging onein a lot of these longevity supplements.
(24:41):
I haven't been around for that longenough.
Well, it's funny, I was taking that.
I started the nervous oneand and thank God he was on my podcast.
They're they're expensive, too.
I mean, you know,I think it's like a couple hundred bucks.
But I took the core, which is a powdery in and felt awful.
And I said it to them.
I was like, Man,I got to be honest with you.
(25:03):
And he was like, Well, what else are you taking?
And it was like, Duh.And I kind of went through it.
So I was taking the Liposomal, which we love from live on.
There,
But my gosh, I'm having the amnesiaright now.
They're sleep
a not magnesium.
Yeah.
And didn't and he was like,I bet if you're feeling off
(25:25):
are you taking another magnesium.
But I, he immediatelyand I was like yeah, yeah.
And he was like, that's way too much magnesium.
And I was like, yeah. Yeah.
So he's like, Do me a favor.
Just go clean up the dudes, and then dry it.
And it felt great, like I was fine after that, but.
I have to do supplement matsfor my clients.
Yeah, because they want to take this one here
(25:46):
and this one here and this one hereand then that over.
Not on the dosing, but they're taking in
too much of a certain thing and I'm like,we need to figure this out.
So it's just taking,it's a little bit of critical thinking
in terms of that supplement.
Okay. What about procedures?
What have you done in 2023that you're like, I'm definitely
going to do that in 2024.
(26:09):
what did
I do in 2023 that I mean, I mean Botox,
what else have I done that was like,
I don't know.
I could tell you what I didthat I would never do again.
And actually, I love the market, which is well, yes, Quo is like a.
Nice. No. For me,it was a cellulite thing.
I had the guy who did the clinicals, who did the FDA trials on here.
(26:31):
We did a podcast.
I was so all over thisI saw the before and afters.
Like I talked to the doctors.
Then I did it and it was horrific. It was painful.
It left discoloration.
So fessing up to it.
What is it?
What what what's the it wasit was like a gentle thing.
Is that an injection? Okay.
(26:51):
It was multiple injections.
And what they would do is they would breaksort of the the bonds
that kind of hold together in your skin.
So it was breaking collagenso that you didn't have that dimpling.
Yeah.
Because basically
when you think of dimpling, it'sbecause collagen bands have gotten harder,
they've gotten firmerand they kind of pull together.
And then between these bandsis where you get that shot.
(27:14):
Yeah.
Anyway, they've pulled it fromthe market with good reason.
But yeah.
So, so when I.
Learn to is like I've been reallyit made me realize
don't maybe be the first.
Don't.
Be one of the firstto jump on the bandwagon.
That was a big lesson for me.
We were like,a lot of people have done it.
(27:35):
What about in terms of products?
Any products that you tried,
you're just like, Nope,I don't understand the hype behind this.
Never going to use this again.
I mean, I hate to say it,
but then I was backed up with like, you know, the doctors and Dr.
Microcurrent devices. People love them.
I mean, I am not panning them,but I don't see I don't see the signs in.
(27:58):
They're expensive, you know, hundreds of dollars.
So for me personally,I could not find enough literature
and peer reviewed studies and actualclinical evidence that that would back
what their claims they're making, which are
many of these companiesare making very vast
and, you know,
(28:19):
and bold claims about tightening your skinand tightening the muscles underneath.
And I actually
was listening to the doctors and they sayone of the things that they find an aging
right, we lose volume, we lose collagen,we have fat redistribution.
There's some bone changes as we age.
But that musclethat they've done in marriages
between older and younger womenand they didn't
really find a big differencein in in muscle loss in the.
(28:42):
Facing and.
Further that when you do Botoxto relax a muscle so that you don't then.
You're doing.
The microcurrent to strengthenthe muscle that
I'm not making this claim againI'm not a doctor, but this is your.
Opinion.
Now, if you're tightening them up like,I don't know.
(29:04):
So for meit's a microcurrent devices that I'm like.
In that same vein, what
ticktock, Instagram trends
have you seen thathave just made you cringe?
I mean, this could be a whole podcast, but things that have made you cringe
that you have seen on social mediathis year that just
(29:24):
people should never do, it's like, where do I stop?
There's so much
I mean, somebody was talking the other dayabout women
who are like gluing their hairto their face now.
I mean, there are so many thingsthat I see these like trends.
You know, part of the reason I lovepodcasting and I do a lot of social media,
I have a harder time with itbecause I find that when you're
(29:44):
when you're doing a podcastand you're having a lengthy discussion,
you get the expertise, you can talk about something.
Social media is very concise.
So I just telleverybody, proceed with caution.
When you're seeing these great trends,I think that there are fabulous
makeup hacks.
I mean, I watch them and I learn a lot,but some of these crazy skincare,
(30:05):
there was one thingwhere people were like drying their hair
was like in tinfoil or something, nuts like that.
And I saw one like drying the hairin like a colander.
Like you think that's what it was.
And I was like,That's going to be hot and burn your hair.
Want to eat.
It? But just get a diffuser, you know?
Okay.
(30:26):
Yeah.
So 20, 24, it's just around the corner, which is crazy.
What I you saving up for?
Excited about what's coming next year.
Like what have you got your eye onfor 2020 for.
Mom and dad. Closureis because they're gonna be so mad.
I really, really, reallywant a reverse tummy tuck
and my I'm interviewing the guywho is known for them here in New York
(30:52):
because I have loose skin.
It's not the fat, but I just kind ofI'm like, So that's kind of my dreams.
How does a reverse tummy tuck work?
So a tummy tuck will Normallythey will have an incision
from hip to hip,and it is a giant incision.
They can hide it in the bikini line.
But I don't know, to me I'm like,and I don't know.
(31:15):
I mean, something
I knew my husband knew, but I'm like,I don't want to look like a stitch doll.
You can't see it.
It's so with a reverse, they actually pullthe skin up into the breast fold on.
I'm going to learn more about this, but I.
Would especially like.
Yes. And I alreadyhad I've been honest about this.
I had a breast left,so I already have the scars under there.
(31:36):
Actually. I don't really.Thank you, Doctor Coker.
He did a phenomenal job,but they would essentially
pull up and use the same scarsso that there's going to be nothing low.
And for me, again,it's not so much of the lipo that I need
or the musculatureor them to like re and touch the muscles.
It's more of that loose skin.
So by pulling it up, it'll
(31:58):
How about you?
Do you have anything on your knee?
So yes So sculpture in the temples?
Yeah.
I've been back and forth on the CO2laser again.
The dome to resetbecause I think the afters are incredible.
I don't know if I can put myselfthrough the recovery process.
(32:19):
It scares me.
You know, the actors are incredible.
I've done zero toI did it from a stomach tightening.
It helped a little bit, but I don't know
the amount of pain
and the downtime with that.
I would say, wait until you really need itand you don't.
It's a downtime.
Yeah, no,but like wait until you really need it.
(32:41):
Like I find that the most incrediblebefore and afters are women
who are like in their sixtiesgetting CO2 and it's like, whoa.
So what lasers do?
And now this is nowthis is completely off the podcast.
So these are the things that I admire.
About what lasers do you recommendif you recommend lasers at all.
I mean, IPL, I think is like
(33:03):
the thingthat I never make it around to do,
but every year, like in the fall,I'm like, That's the one, right?
Because most it'sgetting rid of the spots.
It's like pretty low.
It's very well-tolerated. It's pretty.
I'm not going to say it's not painful, but but it's very tolerable.
And I feel like you get that instantgratification.
I had brown spots three days later.
(33:24):
I do not.
The rest of them.
I do all thera with Dr. Issak,
but it's expensive and there's not this.
Like you're not going to have this moment.
But I believe that, you know, in the science
behind itthat it's building the collagen. But.
But it takesand you have to be consistent.
(33:45):
Yeah,
but I think an IPL is like a great wayand they're generally under like 500 bucks
and it's.
Just that.
It's so satisfying when you see the brown
pigmentcrust up to the surface and then go off
and you're like, hi.
Okay, so possibly reverse tummy tuck,
(34:08):
anything else?
Anything, anything that you're just like, that would be amazing.
Like, do we have okay on?
There's so many things.
But like, the reality is, is likewe can all pick ourselves apart and like,
I hope at homeyou are not doing this too much.
You know,I look at a lot of women on Instagram
who are just so beautifully done, but you're like,
(34:31):
you've donea little bit of everything, right?
And they do. They look they look fabulous.
And I don't know,I think at a certain point
you just have to like I said, I was like, you know what?
I'd rather have wrinkles on my foreheadthan these two giant veins.
Every time I smile,
I thinkyou would have to make peace with it.
And you you can't remove them.
I looked into it. It is not safe.
(34:53):
Those are like things that you needfor a reason. Yes.
You need to keep those thingsin your monthly, right?
Yeah.
So. Yeah.
I want to thank you so much.
I'm just realizingthat we've been chatting for a while now.
I'm going to wrap this up, you know.
How about you?
Is there anything going into the new yearthat you're not really
(35:14):
that you're just hoping for goals, any,any or.
You know, what 2024 is about for meis about
not trying to fit into other expectations,
but doing what silly makes me happy.
Yeah, watch the space because that's not easy.
(35:36):
But I think as women in our
early forties, there's lots of boxesthat we feel like we should be in.
There's lots of thingsthat we should have achieved by now.
But actually when I'm at my most happy,
my most productiveand my most of service is when I'm doing
what feels really good for me,not what everybody else thinks of me.
(35:56):
So that's what I'm trying to go into 2020battle with.
What about you?
I love that.
You know, I think the same thingsort of just be open to new experiences.
This year has been incredible.
I had this wonderful opportunityto work with Laura Geller, but
but sometimesyou'll feel like a little bit
like it's okay to feel a little lost.
(36:17):
What am I doing next? And the other thing
I'm really to appreciateis those days that I've got downtime,
right,
is to know that, like, instead of looking, this is like I'm bored.
It's okay to like,
just sit on the couch and veg for an hourbecause there are going to be times
where you're like pulling your hair outbecause you're so busy.
So I'm really tryingto appreciate those moments of quiet
(36:41):
and like peace and recognize themand not try to fill them with,
I got to do laundry and I'm like,I've got an hour and just enjoy it.
Sit for an hour like, it's cool.
