(00:01):
Hey there mamas, if you're tired ofthe same old social media grind and
you're looking for a place to build areal community and actually test your
products, you've come to the right place.
So today I'm going to dive into schooland it's like, I don't know, a secret
clubhouse for online entrepreneurs.
So you can build a super tight community, you can get honest feedback on your stuff,

(00:22):
and even discover new opportunities.
Oh, and This is potentially a cashcow if you're interested in becoming
an affiliate, or if you don't want agroup, but you're looking for something
where you can use something as anaffiliate tool where you believe in
it and you want to promote it andit's rock solid, this is for you.

(00:46):
So you can make a seriousdough through this.
I didn't even think about this partreally, but I just saw school popping
up so much over the last year or two.
And I'm in, I would say rightnow, I'm probably in a combination
of, I think I have three paidscenarios and the rest are all free.
So a total of maybeseven, seven different.

(01:10):
communities that I belong to on schoolover the last, I would say three years.
And what I've noticed recentlyis that this is like a goldmine
if you do it the right way.
So this whole episode, I'm going tobreak down what I've seen people doing
in school that is just brilliant.

(01:30):
And I would say no two peopleare doing it the same way.
So I wanted to just cover some of thedifferent things that I've seen and
maybe one of these sounds good to you.
I'm still trying to figureout what I'm going to do.
I'm in a little bit of my own figuringout process right now myself, and I've
shut down a website and I'm reopening it.
So I'm just trying to figure out, I wouldlove a community, but I'm trying to figure

(01:52):
out the right space for that myself.
Anyway, so that's whatthis episode is about.
I think the first time I joined.
School was probably three years agoand I wasn't super impressed right
off the bat, but I did that it wasa little bit different than circle.
It was definitely different than Facebookand it had a pretty clean user interface.

(02:15):
All that was great.
I ran into some trouble when I tried tolog in again because somebody else sent me
to their school account and that kind of.
That kind of bothered me.
Since then I figured out that you reallycan just use one login and then in a very
tidy way all of your communities willshow up on the left hand side and you

(02:36):
can just pick and choose and move througheach of the individual communities.
I think that is brilliantthe way that it's set up.
It's not confusing.
at all.
That's very clear, both onlaptop and on mobile device.
So anyway, so now that I've havethese communities, I would say I was
active in, I had one podcast communitythat was paid for as a mastermind.

(02:57):
I had another more recent onethat was a marketing very quick
course that was closed down bythe founder for whatever reason.
And then I've had a couple thatare free recently where I was like,
Ooh, these people are so smart.
So what they're doing, and this isthe main thing that I wanted to share.

(03:19):
I am.
Because I'm so intrigued by themarketing aspect of what they're doing
and how they're leveraging school,I really wanted to share it here.
So here's what I've seen.
So let's say there's a YouTube Personthat you really like and you're
following them or somebody on Instagramor another social media platform and
they say hey guys Go they have somecontent around something that you want.

(03:43):
So they're offering somethingfree Maybe it's a meditation.
Maybe it's a mini course a freeTemplate on how to grow your
Instagram or something like that.
So they have a link in theirblog post bio or wherever they're
driving the traffic, you clickthat link to their school platform.
It's free.
So you join.

(04:04):
And if you're already in, because you'rein school for something else, that's fine.
You just log in, you add their community.
So now you're in the community.
You can find the free thing, whateverit is, and you can download it,
use it, listen to it, whatever.
So now, unlike when you ask somebody tojoin your email list, The school, the way

(04:27):
that school works is when you If you addsomething new, whether it's you're the one
promoting something in a new thread, likea new comment thread, or you're adding
a new piece of content, it's going toautomatically alert your school community.
So if you're somebody like me, who'snot super consistent with your email

(04:49):
list, and you find it a burden to stayconnected, this is such a great tool.
way to create that automatic community.
And this is the part that I was like, whoa, this is brilliant because what
I saw is that one of the groups thatI'm in is a digital marketing group.
And so the woman running that group, she gave away something for free.

(05:11):
So we joined actually we were invited tojoin through her email list first because
she was looking for marketers, people whohad more than four years of experience.
Experience as marketers.
So I joined her group.
I already respected her.
I had already taken one of her courses.
I got into her group and becauseof the way that she did it in the
selective way you had to be approvedand I don't even know, I think it

(05:34):
was like a couple of questions, butit made it feel more like elite.
So I thought that was brilliant.
She's a marketer.
So of course, not everyone's doing that.
Some people are just like, just goahead and join, but she did that.
Then you're in.
And then she started sharing someof her wins from some new things

(05:55):
that she was doing with Instagram.
And so she was sharing one of herAI tools and she would, explain what
it is, how it's helping her clients.
And she made a video that kindof walks you through all the
different steps and how to use it.
And then she had a database, whichwas like a separate Notion template.

(06:17):
And that template was so kick ass that, and she explained it would take 80
hours to gather this information about,in this case, it was about Instagram
prompts and what's working, what's not.
And then what she was selling, as Ilater learned, was this way of her team

(06:39):
gathering up very specific informationabout whatever your niche audiences, then
they would gather these prompts and thenshow you and save you 80 hours of work.
Like these are the things that are workingreally well in this particular niche.
And then you join, there was anoffer to join that, subscription
to get that spreadsheet with thatinformation and implement it.

(07:04):
And then you could give her feedback.
She'd offer all of this to youfor free to kick the tires, try
it, see if you liked it or not.
She gave a what do you call it?
A discount code for onlyfor people in the group.
And if you shared it outside thegroup, there were, you'd get kicked
out of the group essentially.
So it was on the honor system, but she did a really great job and

(07:25):
then said, in X number of days, this won't be available anymore.
It's going to go up to this price.
And, 1.
95, 3.
95, whatever the thing was.
And I was just like, wow, this is awesome because she's
getting feedback in the group.
She has narrowed her niche to onlymarketers who are fairly experienced,

(07:49):
intermediate level at least.
And the only people she's promotingthis to are people who actually have
some idea of what they're doing.
They're not noobs.
So they're not going to be like spammingher with all kinds of questions.
And because everyone in there aremarketers, they can learn from each other.
And I don't know, I just was like, wow.
And then she off, AI tool as well.

(08:11):
Same thing.
That AI tool was, Connected tomarketers and specific to marketing.
She walked you through how to use it.
I ran into some trouble withit and I was like, Oh, I'm
going to send some questions.
And then I went back and becauseit had like step one, step two,
step three with videos in school.
I hit a snag where I saw, Oh, this, thequestion I have has already been answered.

(08:35):
It's only going to do this.
Yes.
it's not going to retain thecontent that I'm asking it to do.
Anyway.
So I just thought that was brilliant.
I'm like, wow, shealready has an audience.
That's segmented.
She doesn't even have to createa brand new email to send to that

(08:57):
list because when she writes apost, her post is becoming the
email that gets sent to all of us.
And there's a link inviting usback into that school community
specifically to then partake inwhatever the thing she's offering.
Okay, so I thought that was really cool.
Then another different schoolgroup that I'm in, that person.

(09:20):
Was offering like a free trainingand it was a live training.
So this is a group that's more ofa mastermind paid group, but this
free training they have, I'm tryingto explain the way that it works.
So the mastermind was like oneyear where you get feedback and
you have live trainings, butyou're in the school group as well.

(09:41):
So you have the course andthe mastermind, but then the
school group is the community.
So new people can join andthey can get that live piece.
But after a year, As somebody inthat group you're in the community,
but you're not necessarilygetting that live coaching.
So they had this special event whereyou could come and they were, I think
they were talking about specificallyabout emailing your list and a very

(10:06):
like niche topic related to podcasting.
And I was like, Ooh, that's awesome.
Again, they were able to just sendout a note through the thread.
The thread went to the entire list.
Then you could register, you can go back.
And because they went live, the livewas literally like in the community.
And then the way that they did it, theywere sharing some very specific things.

(10:27):
They had you ask for thecontent if you missed it.
Again, staying connectedto community, prompting.
asking for feedback.
They're handling it in a different waythan the previous person I mentioned, but
still, it's a good way to hook people in.
You're not in a Facebook group whereyou're being spammed by other people's

(10:49):
comments, potential ads in the timeline.
You're with your like minded people, inthis case, fellow podcasters I just really
liked that it was so clean and clear.
And then as I was watching these twopeople, and then a couple of other
people who are using school anotherone is a writer, and what he's really

(11:10):
great at is he's he's teaching writing.
He has a newsletter.
He has two or threecourses, plus a mastermind.
He does a ton of writingon LinkedIn and teaches.
How to write on LinkedIn, but mainly he'steaching about how to get writing clients.
And so what he will do is dripout very specific niche lessons

(11:35):
in his school and his schoolvideos are just hosted on YouTube.
So every time he sends it out, itgoes to his school And this so I
belong to both a small paid communityof his and a free one and I'm right
now I'm referencing the free piece.
So the free is going to Out tohis list and it's saying to them.

(11:59):
Hey, this is what this is about Thisis why I think this is so important.
Click the link to go check it out.
So when they click They can see thatvideo within school But it's real.
Actually, I follow him on YouTube.
It's being pulled from his YouTube,so his YouTube views are going up.

(12:21):
It's embedded from YouTube, so it's,so if you're a YouTuber and you wanna
create a tight community or a YouTubepodcaster, you want to create a tight
community, this is another way todo it and to drive that traffic more
consistently to your YouTube videos.
or podcast episodes.
And then because it's in school andschool's a community, you can have

(12:44):
people, you can prompt them to askquestions give feedback, whatever,
in a much more cohesive way than youcould just relying on YouTube alone.
Because YouTube is great.
You can create a community there.
Sometimes you're getting randomcomments and people aren't.
Tightly knit to you.
So I really like that approach as well.

(13:05):
And what he's doing is he's buildingup from his free content, he's
teaching, he's pulling people over tohis YouTube, he's also sending them
sometimes to his newsletter, and Ibelieve also over to his LinkedIn.
So like he's getting all kinds of viewsfrom this very niche school community.

(13:33):
Awesome.
Because You see people who arelike, Oh, go over to Instagram,
go over to LinkedIn and, directmessage people do all this stuff.
It takes so, so much work to do that.
If you can just invite them intoa school community, they're there.
You don't have to doall that manual effort.
And I'm sure there are tools that, thatdo this as well, but I'm just, this

(13:54):
seems so simple and so easy and clean.
I just love it.
The other thing that I noticedwas when I was on mobile, I was
like, wow, I'm looking at allmy communities that I belong to.
I ran into a glitch becauseI had two different logins.
As I was looking through school,I saw that there was a promoted

(14:15):
on my screen, these othercommunities that I should join.
And I was like, what?
I didn't know that school was also adiscoverability tool where you could
discover other free communities.
And that happened to me when Ijoined somebody on YouTube who
has a massive school audience.

(14:37):
I think his school community, whichis free, is in like the 42, 000 range.
He has over a million peopleon his YouTube channel.
So I was like, Okay this is remindingme of how the newsletters work when
they recommend other newsletters, right?
So I went in and I started, lookingat what was being recommended to me

(14:59):
and I found this really cool Multipleinteresting groups that I could join, but
one of them was another different digitalmarketing tool group, I should say, run
by a woman I'd never heard of before.
And this group was huge.
I think she has, I don't know, upwardsof 60, 000 people in the group.
And as I was reading through it, itwas a paid group that came, I think,

(15:22):
from a product like, you bought, maybe people bought her course.
But because school is promotingher, I found her, I wouldn't
have found her as, I don't know,I've never heard of her before.
And then I really, I watched her videos.
I watched like what's happening inthe group and I was really intrigued.
I haven't joined at the moment, but itwas like a 60, I think it was 64 a month.

(15:45):
I did the math on that.
This woman in this group, assuming even only half.
of her group is paid, she's making halfa million dollars a month or something.
It was ridiculous.
I did the math on it.
So I was trying to explain somethingto my kids and I was like, this
is what's happening on, howpeople are making money online.

(16:05):
And so that's huge.
So if you're somebody who'sOh, should I have a newsletter?
Should I create a brandnew Facebook group?
Should I, whatever, if you aresomebody who's creating content,
You're creating products to sell, like courses or e products or

(16:26):
templates or anything like that.
And you want to have a community whereyou can teach and interact and support.
This is incredible, I think.
So here's the other piece of it.
It's not cheap.
I'm not gonna lie.
Obviously, Facebook is free.
There are all these other communities.
But if you're somebody who likesto sell and promote and you believe

(16:49):
in things, like I've been playingwith this for three years, right?
This tool is 99, believeme, yeah, 99 a month.
However, if somebody in your groupjoins and creates their own group, as a,
you're like an instant referral becausethey're doing it from within your group.

(17:13):
And you get 40 percent of that amountevery month for the lifetime of their
membership, which is very generous.
And I looked at their affiliatetheir affiliate program.
So if you sign up as, if you join school, you automatically get a referral link and
you can refer your friends and whatever.

(17:34):
And if they join, there'sa 30 day cookie set.
So if they join under your referral, you will get, as I said, the 40%,
every month for the lifetime oftheir, however, the long they're in
school, if they keep their membership.
If they happen to.
join from within a group, the group, the fact that they're in your group

(18:01):
supersedes the cookie that was set.
So if their friend referred them, but they're in a group because they
either paid for the group or they justselected the group and decided to join.
And then while they're in thegroup, they decide, you know what,
I'm going to create my community.
Then you get credit for thatautomatically, which I think is.

(18:22):
Super generous, super fair.
I've never heard of anything like that.
You might say, Oh, it's unfair to theaffiliate person who sent them there.
It is and it isn't becausethey're in the group.
Maybe they found school throughthat person, which is great.
But if they're in a group and theylike the group so much that they're
thinking, I need to have my own.

(18:42):
It's probably because of theexperience that they're in.
So I don't know.
Anyway, I see both sides of it.
I think it's very generous.
And then the, in terms of theway that they pay out, they
have a 14 day holding period.
So if somebody joins within the group orfrom your affiliate link, they 14 days.

(19:03):
And then after that timethey pay you through Stripe.
So it goes from school.
to Stripe to your bank accountand there are no additional fees.
So there's no, the actual the actualpayout says no transaction fees.
That's awesome.
So I haven't seen anything quite thisgenerous and I would love to hear

(19:27):
from you if you have something likethis where you're like, Oh, Steph,
this sounds great, but what about.
ABC product.
Please do tell me, I wouldlove to hear from you.
I am going to become an affiliatebecause I am so captivated by school.
I was in, Sam Ovens is thefounder, I was in Sam's consulting.

(19:49):
com, which was something heput out, I believe, more than
maybe five, six years ago.
And his product was like, rock solid.
He is such a masterful, genius entrepreneur.
Like he's just so top notchin everything that he does.
And that course helped me launcha digital marketing business.

(20:12):
And that's what got me reallyoff the ground and really,
truly making money online.
So I really believe in him and I'vehad all kinds of stuff with my life
With my kids with my one daughterbeing really sick and just a lot
happening for the last two yearsand I'm just looking for simplicity.
I'm looking for a way to connectand I just think this is phenomenal.

(20:35):
I have explored two othernewsletter platforms.
So I'm trying to figure out howto integrate those platforms
or if maybe I don't need them.
Maybe I'm going to switch myemail from MailChimp to ConvertKit
potentially and ConvertKit has itsown its own newsletter platform.
And then this is another wayof emailing people as well.

(20:59):
And seems way, especially if you're acontent creator and you're sharing and
commenting and curating content, itseems like a really great way to do that.
And it's not going to exhaust youthe way maintaining a list can.
Can potentially exhaust you.
So if you look for shortcuts, lookingfor maximum impact, you're looking

(21:21):
for a community where you can testyour products and get feedback.
Were you looking for a platform wherethere's some discoverability and your
group could be promoted to other people?
You're looking for a way to potentiallyearn affiliate income through your
group as an affiliate marketer and,or just a host of a group, and maybe
you're not like actively promotingit, but you want the people within

(21:42):
your group to potentially opt inand, create their own groups as well.
This just seems like a no brainer.
So this is just for listeners ingeneral, I am going to be doing, this
is all audio only I'm not on video.
I love video.
My background is.
My degree's in film and new media, and I have spent many dollars, many

(22:08):
hours taking workshops through theworkshops in Maine, the film workshops
for becoming a digital journalist.
a Final Cut Pro expert, all that stuff.
Like I, I love video, but my life rightnow, it's just can't be the main thing.
So when I need to use the screens,I will, I probably will do a

(22:29):
version of this for YouTube.
But for now, this is just going tobe the way I'm going to share it
because I'm following somebody whoI'm hoping to have on the podcast,
who does a digital products podcast.
I, she's great.
She's also a mom andI'm like, you know what?
She has a YouTube.
She has a.
She has groups, she has her podcast, and she's not ever really on screen.

(22:52):
And I feel like I'm stillgetting a lot out of it.
So I'm going to follow herlead and simplify my life.
And I will, I think that willmake things a lot more consistent.
If you guys could see the number of minicourses, tutorials, trainings, Podcast
episodes that I have on my hard drivethat have never been shared due to the

(23:13):
Complexity that I have created overthe years you will totally understand.
So I'm trying to simplify Trying toembody and be the role model Myself
because I truly believe that there areshortcuts and that's what I want to focus
on moving forward through this Seasonof audacious mamas, and I'm hoping That

(23:35):
and intending that you will see moreepisodes this season a lot more All
right So also if you want to go checkout the audacious life podcast if you're
somebody who has been through a toxic Oremotionally abusive financially abusive
coercively controlling relationship.
You're coming out the other side andhealing That is my other podcast and

(23:55):
I would love to You send people backand forth because I know there's a lot
of overlap between those two audiencesbecause as Mamas, whether you're a single
mom Whether you're a just not just whetheryou're a mom who has a partner sometimes
You just need Mental health support.

(24:16):
You need to be built up.
You need ideas on how to save timeand I think that those are all
the main things that I want to do.
It's like spiritual upliftment, learningto thrive, learning to find shortcuts
so that you can get your life back.
You can enjoy your children, your family, your friends, and

(24:36):
really take care of yourself.
Self care.
Without that is the oxygen.
That is the Yeah, I'm sayinglighter fluid for your rocket.
You get it.
If you're going to have anythinglaunch in your life, you need
to take care of yourself.
So yeah, go check it out.
