Seven oh two the Car Feature twenty minutes two three

prisons and future of Pugio in South Africa. We're joined
by the managing director of Stilana South Africa, Mike Whitfield
in studium and we take your calls on a double
ONEA three oh seven oh two in the WhatsApp line

(00:20):
oh seven two seven oh two one seven oh two.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Mike, welcome to the show.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
Good afternoon, and that's fantastic to be here. And afternoon
to all your listeners.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Thank you for coming through. Thank you.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
So what is this relationship between Stalentis and Pusia? Tell
us who and what Stillentis South Africa.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
Is so effectively Silantis is the fourth largest automobile manufacturer
in the world and it's only four years old, believe
it or not.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
How did you manage that?

Speaker 1 (00:49):
I think you can give lots of businesses sometimes.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
So however, if you look at it, it is made
up of fourteen radio ar iconic brands, many of them
well over one hundred years old. So we had brands
such as Pugia, Jeep, Alpha, Citron and opal Maserati all
part of the Solantis family, and Silantis operates globally. It's
very difficult to say is it a French brand, is

(01:14):
it a American company? It's a Trilli, an international company.
And four years ago the brands were all put together
in United under one organization called Stilantis.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
Why do I imagine you having a fourteen car garage
in your house?

Speaker 3 (01:30):
No chance?

Speaker 1 (01:34):
I mean you have you said all these brands, I'm like, well,
you need one for every day of the week.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
In South Africa, we don't obviously sell all fourteen We
have Citron, Pugia, Opal, Fiat, Alfa, Romeo Jeep are the
core core brands. And and this week, in fact, we're
introducing our first full range of new energy vehicles, being
leap motors. So today we will introduce what we call

(02:03):
a reef range extended electric vehicle. It will follow it
up with full electric at exciting times. And we live
in a country that mobility is a key challenge, an
opportunity for all of us, and a very competitive market
with new entrants entering this market on a weekly monthly basis.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
Can we chat before we talk about the future and
presence of Pugia in South Africa? How has the brand
been doing over the past few decades. I mean there
was a time I recall when I was getting ready
to get my first license and everybody was driving around
The two O six was the car.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
It was everywhere.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
Every girl who had her life together was driving that car.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
And You're like, one.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
Day you know and I feel like there are so
many people who are so familiar with the brand and
some of their cars, but not necessarily all of them.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
So it is obviously a very iconic brand, been around
over one hundred years, been in South Africa for a
significant time. But what we are seeing is really the
re energizing of the Pusia brand today. We've recently introduced
the two double eight. On top of that, we have
the land Track pickup and we're expanding the range into

(03:20):
a lot of the vans as well.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
I saw a bikey and I was like I had
to do a double take, like pushare does bikeies? I
was like, Okay, Then the gorgeous suv Okay.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
So it's very much part of rebuilding the brand in
the country, particularly related to building regaining trust as well.
So we've really put a huge effort into rebuilding our
part supply, our warehousing, our reliability and I can honestly
say that we're happy to support anyone out there.

Speaker 1 (03:54):
Okay, So when we look at you know, Pugio in
terms of its presence in the country, this brand, legacy
and growth, I mean you've touched on sort of the
direction of what you've seen with the cars, but in
terms of you know, who would you say the Pugio
customer is because maybe they're listening, but they don't know
they are the Pugio customer.

Speaker 3 (04:15):
So they are two distinct areas. If you look at
the suv, it's ready for someone who wants to be different,
who is wanting to live life and experience something that's
very different and very European in terms of a brand,
and we have an extensive choice of vehicles available to
all of us here, so it really comes down to
what suits your personal preference. And then on the other side,

(04:37):
a big focus on Pusua is building our commercial vehicle,
So it's starting with the pickup, which is what we
call the land track, and then supporting it with a
number of the vans and vans are globally. In fact,
Stlantis is the biggest player in vans where it's half
ton one ton one and a half ton, both for
passenger and goods. So that is going to be a

(04:58):
big focus for us as we enter into next year.

Speaker 1 (05:02):
Chat to us about this customer centric philosophy for the brand.

Speaker 3 (05:08):
So I think at the end of the day, whatever
brand you represent, you need to put the customer at
the center. And the important part is the customer must
know that if he does have a problem. We're obviously
dealing with technical or vehicles that can have challenges from
time to time. But for us, the important thing is

(05:30):
that if the unlikely event the customer is faced with
that that we have the ability to react and support
the customer very quickly. And for that we've consolidated all
our parts in Rosalind with over half a billion randsworth
And in fact, if I cannot supply you a part
within forty eight hours, we will provide you alternative.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
Transport forty eight hours.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
Wow, that is quite a short turnaround, and you're saying
if we can't do it, we will give you something
to drive until we can get it for you.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
That's important we part of our journey in ours rebuilding test.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
Okay, so in terms of product focus, let's start with
the Pugio land Tric Bucky. I've checked to us about
some of the features that maybe we might not even
think about, especially those that maybe have not even seen
it on the roads at all.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
What is special about this car?

Speaker 3 (06:23):
I think some of the key elements is obviously it
goes from a luxury four x four double cab automatic
all the way to a significant single cab that, unlike
many of the single cabs in the market, can fit
a normal European sized palette in the back. Very very

(06:43):
very versatile, certainly covers the full needs of whatever, whether
you're commercial or a private user. And then as we
move towards vans, it gives you the opportunity to small
businesses with plumbers, whether it's actricians, very much set up
to support their needs and start the ownerssle businesses. And

(07:07):
I think that's important. One of the big challenges we
have in this country is to really support small medium enterprises.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
And of course safety features like your six air bags,
electronic stability control, your hill descent control, lane departure warnings,
so all of that tech is also in the vehicle.
Your ten inch multimedia screen as well, whether you want
to do your Apple Corplay or Android one. It includes

(07:35):
all of those within the vehicle. When we look at
the TOO eight, how do we say it, because two
thousand and eight will always sound.

Speaker 3 (07:43):
Like a year to double eight.

Speaker 2 (07:45):
To double ow eight. Okay. The crossover suv, talk to
us about that again.

Speaker 3 (07:51):
Very much lifestyle, certainly, it's something that we're going to
expand that range. It's very much much plays in the
space and where the market is moving towards SUVs and crossovers.
Has to be affordable, very very important and fun to drive.
That's what it's all about. And your safety features you

(08:13):
mentioned are very much a requirement if you want to
play in this market, you have to have those safety features.

Speaker 2 (08:21):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (08:22):
And if we are then to just look at I
mean with Pujo, what are some of the plans that
maybe are in off of somebody's listening. Are they able
to just walk into a dealership and the dealership will
be able to assist with everything.

Speaker 3 (08:39):
Yes, what we've done, as I said earlier, the Lantas
consist of number of brands in fact in South Africa
at the moment six So over the last year we've
consolidated all the brands into what we call the Stilanti Stealership.
So you can walk into any Stilanta's dealership throughout the
country and have access not only to Pusia, but are
the brands as well. So that's really one of our

(09:00):
key focus, not only from a sales point of view,
but from a service an aftermarket point of view.

Speaker 1 (09:05):
What are some of the strategies that are in place
to just boost awareness and sales for these new vehicles
that are being pushed.

Speaker 3 (09:16):
At the end of the day, the only true driver
has to be the growing awareness but also very importantly
building the trust as we go forward. So we are
very active in terms of not only social media. We're
talking today about the brands with ourselves and it's really
telling the story of Slantis, where Stilantis is going and

(09:38):
particularly also the role that we intend to play going
forward in new energy vehicles sleep odors, which we're launching
right now, is one of those. The other key aspect
of our future and very important not only for South
Africa but Africa is what we term micro mobility. An
other word is affordable mobility. So recently we announced a

(09:59):
global acro mobility strategy that is based under Fiat Fiat
brand Yes and shortly we will be sharing a lot
of activities that we will be doing to be able
to offer affordable mobility, because mobility also gives people economic
freedom as well.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
All right, we are going to take your calls on
Oudible one double three oh seven O two in the
WhatsApp line oh siven two seven oh two one seven
oh two for Mike Woodfield, MD, Austilentus, South Africa.

Speaker 3 (10:28):
Seven O two the car features.

Speaker 1 (10:31):
There are some questions coming through Audible one w three
oh seven O two the WhatsApp line oh siven two
seven oh two one seven o two before we go
to the voice notes. The first question says, our parts
for Pugio more available now than in the past.

Speaker 3 (10:48):
Yes, very very definitely. In fact, one of the big
focuses over the last few years has been to consolidate
all our path into one warehouse and to support the
fact that we guarantee the availability of plot we also
sure any of our customers that any vehicle under the warranty,
which is a five year period, that if we are

(11:08):
unable to supply paths, we will provide a similar transport.

Speaker 1 (11:14):
We've got a voice note on seven two seven oh
two one seven two.

Speaker 3 (11:19):
Good evening bill.

Speaker 4 (11:22):
This is THEO I wanted to find out from the
still Anti's representative. I drive twenty twenty one Posure to
Double eight, which is Mark two, the second generation, and
I am now looking to upgrade, but I want to
stay within the Posure brand. But the problem is every

(11:45):
time when I visit William's Hunt or any Posure dealer,
they tell me that you can't get it through double eight,
which is a logical upgrade for the two Double eight
or next step, and they keep on suggesting that I
must look at the green Land and all of that.
So short question is, if you want to stay within

(12:08):
the Pleasure brand, what is your options?

Speaker 3 (12:12):
Very good question, and thank you for your loyalty. Certainly,
we would love to be able to offer you the
three Double eight or five Double eight at the moment, however,
that will be considered going forward, but purely as a
new energy vehicle. However, what I will do is see
if I can get your contact details and will certainly
reach out to you and share some of the options

(12:32):
that are available to you. But thank you for your support.

Speaker 1 (12:35):
Thank you so much for that question. Zeno is asking saying,
please ask your guest about the million kilometer warranty that
is being offered by some Chinese brands. I see Pujo
pride itself with the forty eight hour time frame. So
I guess the question is what are your thoughts around that.

Speaker 3 (12:57):
I think out there there's a number of options. The
most important thing, I think is going to be a
five year warranty, which we do offer. There are guarantees
on all the major components we can extend. There are
available extensions, but no, we're not in the market at
the moment with a million dollar guarranty. Definitely not a

(13:21):
million dollar one, but a million kilometer warranty. But certainly
different competitors have different offerings in the market. I think
for us, what is very important is that we guarantee
you mobility. We guarantee your roadside assistance if you do
break down, and hopefully it doesn't happen, but we will

(13:41):
make sure that there's someone on the side of the
road to come and help you.

Speaker 1 (13:45):
Da Gallo says, I own my second pew jhow and
I have to say they're very expensive.

Speaker 2 (13:50):
Parts are a problem.

Speaker 1 (13:51):
I'm going on three months now waiting for parts, and
it seems like repairing skills are also lacking. I'm wrestling
with staying with the brand. Oh and resell value is bad.
Oh I'm on my second pusure now what are the
thoughts for the MD in studio?

Speaker 3 (14:06):
Good point and good question and certainly something that we
believe we need to address and see how we can
support you. So again, please let us know your contact
details and we'll be in touch because we'd like you
to go to your third pusure as well.

Speaker 1 (14:21):
And you know, there are people who are really, really
brand loyal when it comes to their vehicles. They take
it so personally, so I'm glad you're making that offer.
Our producer will ensure that your contacts are shared with
Mike those.

Speaker 2 (14:37):
Of you that you committed to to assist.

Speaker 1 (14:39):
Excuse me, when we look at ev and hybrids, what
are some of the plans that you have at stillantis,
particularly with Pusure in any of the other brands.

Speaker 3 (14:50):
So today on Pusure passenger vehicles, we have no immediate
plans on new energy vehicles. However, through the other brands
that we have, we have a number of options. Coming
next week, we introduce the Alpha Junior full Electric. As
I said today, we introducing the Leap Motors C ten,
which is a range extended electric. It will also expand

(15:12):
and particularly on the commercial vehicle range. We will be
offering options and new energy as well as we move
forward next year. In fact, we have one or two
at the moment under evaluation here, so it's very important.
I think the future direction is in terms of new
energy vehicles. The first preference will be what we call
plug in hybrids range extended and while electrics growing or

(15:34):
full battery electric vehicles. The percentage growth is big. It's
all for small base. It will take some time to
be fully adopted.

Speaker 1 (15:41):
Zeno says he will accept the million dollar warranty things
with pleasure.

Speaker 3 (15:49):
Will will negotiate.

Speaker 1 (15:51):
Final question, just with regards to puture, how does how
does the Lentis decide which are the models that are
going to do well in South Africa.

Speaker 3 (16:01):
I think one of the unique advantages differentiations that we
have as THEILANTIS is what we can look at amongst
our brand portfolio and identify what is the right product
for that area of the market. At the end of
the day, the customer decides it must meet the customer needs.
So if you look at it, and I rarely simplify
it now is below the four hundred thousand level. We

(16:22):
compete very actively with the Pusia Citron range. Pugio and
Opal play very much in the four hundred to eight
hundred thousand range. Jeep in Alpha at the top. But
the beauty of having this access to these brands through
the Stilanti's dealerships is that we can really select what's

(16:42):
best for the market and what the customer needs.

Speaker 1 (16:45):
Managing Director of Stilantis South Africa, Mike Woodfield, thank you
so so much for your time.

Speaker 3 (16:51):
Thank you very much for your time. Until the listeners
have a great day. Thank you.
