In den letzten fünfzehn Jahren hat sich der Energieverbrauch im Zusammenhang mit der Klimatisierung von Gebäuden mehr als verdoppelt. Diese steile Zunahme wird sich fortsetzen, obwohl Forschende darauf hinweisen, dass die Klimatisierung gar keinem wirklichen Bedürfnis entspricht. Zu diesem Schluss kommt eine Studie, die im Rahmen des Schweizer Nationalen Forschungsprogramms 'Nachhaltige Siedlungs- und Infrastrukturentwicklung' (NFP 54) durchgeführt wurde.
