Speaker 1 (00:00):
So Jesus taught us to pray your kingdom come.
Over the last few months youmight have heard me talking a
bit about blessing and speakingblessing to our communities and
to the people in our lives.
As a follower of Jesus, did youknow that when you bless

(00:20):
someone in Jesus' name, they arereally blessed?
You are doing something in thespiritual realm.
How can we make such anaudacious claim as that, to say
that the words we speak willhave an effect on people?
Well, it begins with the gospelof the kingdom.

(00:41):
Gospel is just an old Englishword for good news of the
kingdom.
Gospel is just an old Englishword for good news.
When you think about the gospelof the kingdom, what comes to
mind?
When you think, particularly interms of Jesus' ministry, what
comes to mind?
I'm going to give you a chance.
Does anyone want to yellsomething out?
The next few weeks I'll begetting a little bit of

(01:02):
interaction.
Probably.
Anyone want to be bold?
What do you think of when youthink of the kingdom of God,
freedom, acceptance, power, love.

(01:26):
Sorry, I missed that.
Peace, power, love.
Sorry, I missed that Peace.
Yeah, you're preaching mysermon for me now is that that's
good, they're good, they'regreat responses.
You know in Matthew, chapter 4,jesus began to go all over
Galilee teaching in theirsynagogues, preaching the good

(01:52):
news of the kingdom of God andhealing every disease and
sickness among the people.
They brought to him, all thosewho were afflicted, those
suffering from various diseasesand intense pains.
The demon possessed theepileptics and the paralytics
and he healed them.
So the kingdom of God is goodnews.
It's especially good newsbecause there's bad news.

(02:14):
I don't know if you sort ofnoticed, but the world's in a
bit of a mess here.
God created us to live in rightrelationship with him, with
each other and with the world, but humanity turned its back on
him and we decided to go our ownway.
Now, one of Jesus titles isPrince of Peace.

(02:34):
When you turn your back on thePrince of Peace, what do you
think is going to happen?
Yeah, but the good news is thatJesus has come to restore peace
to his world.
He was unjustly put to death.
He took our evil and sin andcrucified it with himself, so we

(03:00):
and our world can have hisgoodness and life and ultimately
, eternal life.
That's the good news of thekingdom of God.
But what do we mean by thekingdom of God anyway?
Well, zach sort of mentioned itbefore A kingdom is a realm

(03:21):
that's subject to a king orruled by a king, and so the
kingdom of God is that realmsubject to God and specifically
subject to his appointed king, jesus Christ.
Now I don't know what you thinkof a kingdom.
It doesn't necessarily soundlike good news today, does it?
But kingdoms, or modern kingsand queens, either tend to be

(03:45):
weak and powerless figureheads,or they're tyrannical dictators.
So how is the kingdom of Godgood news, although God is king
of the whole world, unlike humannations, god's kingdom isn't
political, it's spiritual.
And so in John 18, jesus saidmy kingdom is not of this world.

(04:11):
If my kingdom were of thisworld, my servants would fight
so that I wouldn't have to behanded over to the Jews.
But as it is, my kingdom is notfrom here.
And in Luke 17, when he wasasked by the Pharisees when the
kingdom of God would come, heanswered them the kingdom of God

(04:33):
is not coming with somethingobservable.
No one will say see, here orthere, for you see, the kingdom
of God is in your midst.
So the Pharisees were lookingfor a future kingdom, but Jesus
said no, it's here now, becausethe king was standing in front

(04:55):
of them having a conversation.
And still today God's kingdomis found everywhere.
Jesus is present by the HolySpirit.
He is present with you, hispeople with you and me, his
church.
So the question is do werecognize that God's kingdom

(05:22):
doesn't conquer nations, itconquers hearts?
Jesus proclaimed the spirit ofthe Lord is on me because he has
anointed me to preach good newsto the poor.
He has sent me to proclaimrelease to the captives and
recovery of sight to the blind,to set free the oppressed, to
proclaim the year of the Lord'sfavour.

(05:42):
I really like that to proclaimthe year of the Lord's favour.
So the good news of the kingdomis that the king has come to
set people free.
He sets people free from demonsand every kind of oppression,

(06:03):
from sickness and disease, fromfear, bitterness, hatred and
strife.
He came to teach us a betterway to live a life full of grace
that flows from the Father'sheart, following Jesus' example,
in giving and receivingforgiveness, love, life and in

(06:24):
serving others.
And although the kingdomdoesn't conquer nations, it can
transform them.
You know, many years ago I met adoctor from India.
She was from a small state upin the Indian Himalayas called
Nagaland.
Now India overall is less than2.5% Christian, but Nagaland is

(06:49):
90% Christian.
90% of people in Nagalandfollow Jesus Back then.
I presume maybe still is.
But the chief of police wasHindu.
Do you know what his biggestcomplaint was?
Boredom.
There was so little crime inthe state.

(07:09):
Police had nothing to do.
And that's what happens whenthe kingdom of God rules enough
hearts, it changes wholecommunities.
Friends, the kingdom is stillbreaking in.
Do we see it?
Will we seek it?

(07:30):
Well, jesus didn't just come todeclare the news of the kingdom
himself.
As people followed him, he sentthem out as well.
And in Luke 10, the Lordappointed 72 others and he sent
them ahead of him in pairs toevery town and place where he
himself was about to go.
And he told them when you enterany town and they welcome you,

(07:53):
eat the things set before you, heal the sick who are there and
tell them the kingdom of God hascome near to you.
And he said all authority hasbeen given to me in heaven and
on earth.
Go, therefore, and makedisciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name ofthe Father and of the Son and of
the Holy Spirit, teaching themto observe everything I have

(08:15):
commanded you and remember, I amwith you always, to the end of
the age.
The good news is the king isstill proclaiming God's favour
for you and me, for your family, for your neighbours, for your
community, and now he uses youand me, his spirit-filled and

(08:40):
spirit-led people, to do it.
You see, where God's people are, there is God's kingdom.
Where people who are subject tothe king go, there goes his
kingdom with them, and where yougo, you take God's power and

(09:02):
potential for transformation oflives and of communities.
How do we see a breakthroughlike that in our world?
How do we see the kingdom ofGod manifesting in In our church
?
There's a bunch of Christianshere today.

(09:23):
The kingdom is here.
Well, jesus said I am with you.
And so it begins as we sit inthe presence of the king and are
with him.
He said all authority has beengiven to me, therefore go.

(09:44):
So it begins as we go in theauthority.
You have authority, theauthority of the king.
He said teach them to observewhat I have commanded you.
It begins as we go with themessage and the ministry of

(10:06):
Jesus the King.
Let's watch a short video.
So the power to change life andcommunities where we are today.
I've got another question foryou what would it look like if
God's kingdom broke out in ourcommunities, in your community,

(10:27):
on your street, in yourneighbourhood, at your workplace
in Bentley, in the surroundinghouses and streets, in the
suburb around us?
What would it look like?
Dream a little Kingdom of Godbreaks out in Perth.
What happens?
What might start and what mightstop.

(10:51):
Let's cry Yep More sharing, more sharing, less homeless
people, more sharing, anythingelse?

(11:23):
I think all those things andmore.
So over the coming weeks we'regoing to look at how we can
bring the kingdom of Godpractically today.
But if you follow Jesus, youcarry God's kingdom.

(11:47):
You carry his presence, hisauthority and his power with you
.
So don't underestimate what youhave.
You have Jesus by his spirit.
You have the king.
The kingdom with all its poweris among us, but we've got to

(12:13):
take hold of it by faith.
So the question, the challengefor us will we do that?
Will we seek it?
Will we take hold of it?
Let's pray Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your
kingdom come.
Your will be done on earth asit is in heaven.

(12:34):
Father, help us to seek yourkingdom.
We pray in Jesus' name, amen.
