or did he have the envelope?Of course he did. He sent them
to someone sent him and he's gotaway of Staley. You are an Idiot's

(03:45):
no, not quite. Look I'vegot a blotter. Well, what good's
that? Look in the mirror. What he wrote on the envelope is on
the blotter. Well, at leastyou use your head. I see if
we can read it. Box thirteen, Care of Stuff Times, Box thirteen
Start Times. There's no star timesin this city, but there is in

(04:05):
the city center, is lettered toif you're right. Well, we'll find
him later, but first I thinkI can get what we want from this
Box thirteen. And now back toBox thirteen and Dan Holiday's newest adventure heron

(04:30):
hows h huh Okay, I'll seeyou later then, so on holiday?
Hy, Yes, Susy got themail. There eight nice new counterfeit five
dollar bills. How'd you get whileyou see? I had my eyes closed

(04:51):
when they were passed on to me. I'm turning them over later to the
police. How about the mail?Oh yeah, and to holiday. I
had the funniest feeling while I wascoming back here at the office from the
Star Time. What do you mean? I had a kind of demolition.
I mean you blew your top.H What do you mean demolition? You

(05:11):
know, like like when you picksomething's happening or going to happen. Oh,
premonition I had why. I feltlike I was being followed. I
felt I was looking at me whenI was in the Star Time's getting the
mail, and you were followed. It felt like it, okay, that
makes you a big girl. Nowthat's the mailing. Yes, twelve letter,

(05:32):
slim pickings. It was such afunny feeling. Wow, wow,
look here and out of time letter. I know. I felt, oh
a little nervous this morning, jusieguess so come in, good morning,
good morning? May I come in? Oh please? Do? I hope

(05:55):
this is not too much of anintrusion. But I now there's something for
you. Well, maybe is thisyour advertisement in the Star Times Adventure wanted
will go anyplace to anything, Boxthirteen. That's right, so you are
box thirteen. Yes, I hada different picture of you, mister,
mister Holiday Holliday. My name isWorker, Thomas Worker. Oh I saw

(06:19):
you at the Star Time. Youwere the one who was looking at me.
Yes, I guess I was. You've followed me. It was a
charming work and you. Oh,thank you. May I ask why you
follow my second time, mister Worker, A curiosity. You see, I've
been noticing your ad for weeks nowit runs day after day. Naturally,

(06:41):
I wanted to see you, whatyou look like, and why you put
the ad in the paper? Oh? Is that all? That's all foolish?
No, tell me, mister Holiday. Do you get the adventure you
advertise for? Sometimes? You receivedmany replies to your ad usually yes,
but JEW cannot follow them all.Well, no, do you have any

(07:04):
particular reason for asking all these questions, mister Worker. No, but I
lead such a prosaic life myself thatyour had intrigued me. I finally got
up enough courage to go to theStar Times and wait for someone to collect
the meal from box thirteen, Isay, and are that you found me?

(07:24):
I? Well, perhaps you'd careto have dinner with me some evening
and tell me some of your adventures. Oh, I'd like to hear them
very much. I I'm very lonely. And all right, mister worker,
I'd be glad to thank you.Thank you now. I must be going.

(07:44):
Sorry to have troubled you, andI hope I didn't frighten you,
young lady. Oh no, it'skind of fun. Oh my umbrella,
one can ever tell when it mightrain? Well, good day, mister
Holiday, and thank you so much. Don't bother to get up. I'll
look you up at the phone book. You please do? Goodbye? What

(08:05):
a nightmare? Funny older Well, let's open the nail, Susan, Hey,
what's matice? Where's the letter from? Out of tone? It's right
on top of the pile. Wouldyou put in? But it's not a
what's the name? It's Holiday? It's gone? What do you mean?
Sure? He's gone? And thatletter went with him. He took it.

(08:26):
His umbrella was on top of thepile. Oh, what a nice
old man. Gee? He stolea letter. Yeah, and something tells
me Susie that mister Worker will neverinvite me to have that dinner with him.
Sure, Worker took the letter, but why what was in it?

(08:50):
Why was it so important? Andwho said it? Well? I kept
asking myself those questions. And thenthree days after that little visit from Worker,
Susie came sting into the office.Oh, mister, hey, look
here here's another letter from the sameplace. I mean, it looks like
the same handwriting. It does.Hey, Susy, you won't followed this
time, were you? Ah?I made sure? Oh good, such

(09:15):
a same aster, Holliday. Listen, three days ago I sent you a
letter containing a sealed envelope. Itcontained half of something which is very important
to me. It was imperative thatI get rid of it until I could
get to safety. Gee, I'mall right now, So send the sealed
envelope to two forty three Marlow Avenue, Bridgeport, Arthur Holmes. Now,

(09:37):
what are you going to do,mister Holliday? Do well? I can't
send him the envelope because I haven'tgot it, and I can't find mister
Worker because I've got a stinking hunst. He'll be a little scarce. Maybe
you got a right to mister Holmes. Oh no, Susy, this looks
too good to be handled by aletter. I'm going to find out a
few things by seeing mister Holmes inperson. I went to Bridgeport found two

(10:03):
forty three Model Avenue. There wasan apartment house. There was no cirk
at the desk, but there wasa tier of mailboxes. One of them
belonged to Arthur Holmes an apartment sixD I saw a couple of minutes later,
mister Holmes or mister Holmes. Itried the door, It wasn't locked.

(10:24):
The apartment was dark. I wasfumbling for the light switch. One
if I said, I as freshas a day's he after that thump on
my head, I'd never get tobe the father of my country. I

(10:45):
was lying on the floor. Theroom was still dark except for a flashing
light that came from a store signedacross the street. I lay there for
a minute to give the room alittle time to stop spinning. Then and
I realized I was holding something inmy hand, and from where I lay
it felt like a gun. Iwas just crawling to my feet. When

(11:05):
I've come with the fresh house,I wanted to clear up a lot more
before him and found me. Iducked behind the door and waited. Mister
Holmes, why did you scream?Who wouldn't a room was a shamble,

(11:26):
someone had searched it, And lyingon the bed in an owl cove was
a man who certainly would have nofurther instant me or anything else. There
was a hole in his forehead, and I was sure I held a gun
that put it there. Sure Iwas innocent, but I'd have a hard

(11:48):
time proving that. Figure it out. I received the letter from Holmes.
Instead of writing I went to him. I didn't wait for the clerk in
the building to call up first.I ducked behind the door when the cleaning
woman came in. And I shouldhave gone to the police right away,
that I was innocent, and Iwanted to learn a bit more. Besides,
the cleaning woman reported the murder,so a half hour later I was

(12:11):
drinking a cup of coffee in anall night Hamburgers of the Late News for

that noise was about. And they'replaying a game? Sure, Hair and
Haunds ever heard of it? Oh? Yeah, yeah, I've played him
when I was a kid. Huh. And I've got news for you.
It's no longer a kid's game.Mistake number two for smart Boy Holiday another

(14:31):
notch against me. I ran fromthe Hamburger stand and that would look bad,
But I've got one bad fault amongothers. I'm I'm very curious.
And I was so curious to knowhow and why the clok at the apartment
house identified me when he didn't evensee me. But if somebody paid him
off to enlarge his beautiful frame aroundmy neck, we'd see. Hey.

(14:54):
Yeah, mister, I've been thinking. Ain't that Hair and Hounds game a
loose young for grown ups? Itold you it wasn't a kid's game anymore.
Oh, world's gone nuts. Weagree, Say pull up here,
William. I thought you want togo to the park. It's dark there.

and as I did, the cabI just got out of drove up.
This was it. Hey, youso you want to play Aaron Hounds

(16:52):

back to heron Hounds, another Boxthirteen adventure with Alan Land as Dan Hall.

(17:14):
Well, well, I was addingblack Marx against my name faster than
I could explain them away, andI knew the police would be listening in
on the Rockspore switchboard. I hopemy actor worked. All I had to
do was find a write Charlie Madisonand get his story. An hour and
a half and to Charlie Madison's later, I'm Charlie Madison, colok at the
Rockspore. Yeah, why, I'mI'm a writer. I'd like to get

(17:37):
your story. Oh sure, sure, come on in. You're married,
mister Madison, no live alone?Sure swell, get your coat and hat
chilly? What for I'll feel saferout on the street away from here.
I don't get it. Don't yourecognize me, Charlie? What are you
giving me? I never saw youbefore my life, But a guy who

(18:00):
never saw me before in his lifeyou give a pretty accurate description to the
police. Yeah, yeah, Iam. Hell. Now listen, Charlie,
You're not gonna get hurt if youplay good. Boy, don't try
to the yell. You're breaking myarm. One more peep out of you
and I'll work my way up toyour neck. What do you want from

(18:21):
me? Information? Now? Comeon, I want to be out of
here when the police arrive. Let'sgo, Charlie. I'm right behind you,
and I've got a gun. Sure, sure is it? Backway out
of here? Trying to turn theright. What does the sally lead to

(18:44):
me? To the street? Letme go the other way. Listen,
ye, maybe I made a mistake. Maybe you ain't the guy I saw.
I know that sally. There areother things. All right, stop
here, it's doctinough. What areyou gonna do? Nothing? You're going
to talk? H What do youknow about Holmes? Nothing? You only

(19:08):
lived at the rocksmore two days, just moved in. Yeah, and uh
who paid you to identify me?But nobody? No, who paid you?
I don't know who he was. What was his name? Work?
I don't know who, honest,I don't know the shot, gray hair,
a little mustache. Yeah, hisname's Worker, isn't it. I

(19:29):
don't know his name. I guessyou don't. But he paid you to
say you saw me go into thehomes of five minute. Yeah, yeah,
yeah, no, let me go. Oh no, Chunie, We've
got work to do. Where's thenearest paper down the street on the corner.
Okay, I'll funic the nicol andyou funny to talk. I don't

(19:52):
get it. What do you wantme to do? Now? Help me
smoke his work out into the open? What door? I told you,
Charlie. I didn't kill Holme,but I'd have a tough time making anyone
believe that. After the ring aroundthe rosie I played tonight. Work is
the boy I want? I getmoving. I remember what they're going to

(20:22):
say, Telly, yeah, yeah, sure. The police will face is
called. Don't let them make yourepeat anything if they pick the hole year
until they can face where this callcomes from. Just say what I hello?
Please, this is Charles Madison.Listen, there's something else. I
didn't tell you. There's another manin the Holmes murder. And I said

(20:44):
this will repeat, keep talking.Look for a man below medium height,
gray hair, little mustache. Idon't know his name, but he carries
an umbrella and he wears glasses. That's all one. He didn't hear the
last part. Let's get out ofhere. Can I go home now?

(21:11):
Oh no, Charlie, I'm beginningto be real fond of you. What
are you gonna do now? Uh? Do you like taxicamps, Charlie,
Huh. We're going to ride inone cab after another. The lea morning
papers come out? What for Ipays? Will carry the latest in the
Holmes murder, including your description ofa mysterious little man with gray hair whose
name is Worker. But if Workerwill come after me, now you're beginning

(21:37):
to be bright about the whole thing. You kill me, yes, like
he did Holmes. Oh, youwon't let him. You're gonna let me
go, you know, Charlie,I can't seem to work up a flood
of tears for you. You frameme for money. I wouldn't have had
a chance at the cleaning woman hadseen me in Holmes's apartment with this gun
in my hand. Well, I'llsay I lied. Think about it,
Charlie. If you do that,it'll make you an accessory after the fact.

(22:00):
What's at me? Simply that thepolice would hold you equally as guilty
as Worker or me? Well, well, I do you know, Charlie,
I'm a very curious minded person.I could go to the police.
But I'd rather play it through myway. Smoke Worker out in the open
and see what this is all about. But how we all? As long
as Worker knows you can identify him, he'll try to find you, get

(22:25):
you. But if you don't goto the police, he'll know you're around
somewhere. Charlie. By the way, Charlie, how does it feel to
another hair in the game? Allright? Pull up here, driving,

(22:47):
Come on, Charlie, a tiedof writing. It's almost day. Yeah,
I'm stack of morning papers on thecorner. Yeah, driver, keep
the change, h Charlie. There'snothing gloomier than a city just before dawn.
I get one of those papers.Where are we going? Then?

(23:10):
Who knows? I've seen the wholecity. Go on, get the paper
tied up and tie them. Yeah, here you are. Did you leave
a nickel? Huh? You havea dishonest streak in you, Charlie.

(23:30):
Do you want to leave a nickelfor the paper? All right, Donni's
alley, Okay, in the storywaynow we'll see what the papers have to
say. Well, you're in Charlie. Listen. Mysterious disappearance of Charles Madison

(23:53):
has led the police to suspectfall play. Say Charlie, what else did say?
Oh? Here it is. Madisoncalled the police late last night with
another tip in the murder of ArthurHolmes. Madison volunteered the description of another
man, whose name he said hedid not know. Meanwhile, police revealed
Holmes. What's the matter, why'dyou stop? Meanwhile, police revealed Holmes's

(24:15):
real name to be Albert Henning, former draftsman at the bull Mill Aircraft Company.
Henning disappeared over a week ago,and executive of the aircraft companies stated
that Henning was suspected of having takenmicro photographs of plans for the Navy's new
twin jet fighter. He was aspy, huh, and that's what he

(24:37):
sent to Box thirteen. He didn'twant to be caught with a photographs on
him, so he used me asa hideout until he could send for them.
I don't know what you're talking about. All I know is we got
to go to the police. Now. It's so right, Charlie, You're
so right. Come on, I'mthrough playing games. As grown a little
bigger than Box thirteen. See whereyou are. It's him, it's worker.
Yeah, don't play use your gunmister Holiday, it's not my gun,

(25:02):
it's yours, the one you killedHenning. Are Holmes with? That's
right? How do you find us? Simple? You see, mister Holiday,
when I heard over the radio thatyou would escape from Holmes's apartment,
I was a little worried. Iknew you'd read or heard about this fool.
Giving your description, I thought youmight go to him and perhaps to
the police. Says I should havein the first place. That's right,

(25:26):
but you didn't. I'm glad youlike adventure. So I watched Madison's place,
and I'd been following you all nightto see what you were going to
do. And now, eh,do you want a guess? No,
You've made it perfect for me,as perfect as Henning did when he doubled
crossed us and tried to sell thosephotographs for a higher price. Perfect.

(25:48):
Yes, think of this. Hereyou are in an alleyway with the only
man who identified you was the murdererof mister Holmes. Now you still have
the gun, and I'll take it, and be careful how you hand it
to me? Please hurry, thankyou. Now I shoot mister Madison first,

(26:10):
and then you, And how doesit look? My idea? Let
me tell it. It was astruggle shooting and both of you are dead.
Oh, it has flaws, butnot glaring ones. Don't don't.
I'll swear I lie to the police, mister Worker. I'll say Holiday kill
Holmes, Honust I will oh betterstill, I will give you this gun,

(26:33):
Madison, and you will shoot Holidaywhile I stand in back of you.
And then you will go to thepolice and say you got the gun
away from him when he was goingto kill you. Here. Now,
won't you kill our friend, misterHoliday, You will be a murderer and
you will have to keep your mouthshut. So go ahead, mister Madison
pulling Cregor, go on, pullit. Don't do it, Madison,

(26:57):
don't do it. Why I can'tmake two shootings look right? Either you
put the trick of Madison or Ido. It's a little better to live
than to die. Hurry you withyou tight, you won't kill me,
don't know, there would be noneed for it. To let you talk,
and you won't, Madison. Don'tplease, that's the ground, fast,

(27:19):
all right, if you asked forit. Nice shooting officer, very
nice, all right, you too, get up off the ground, and
believe me, I'm very happy tobe able to do just that. What's
the matter with the other guy?Nothing? Things are a little too much

(27:42):
for him. He passed. That'sthe guy, Officer, that's the guy.
Okay, okay, you guys standback all right, Officer, what
kept you? Are you kidding? We've been tracing you all night, one
taxi driver after another, one cabfor another. You think you're gonna get
away with passing those phony fives allover town? Right? No? I

(28:06):
didn't. That's why I passed themout. What you're no, officer,
You have a very efficient police force. Oh thanks, boys, you mean
you you gave up them phony finson purpose, a very definite purpose.
You think it's funny? Eh,Well, see how hard you can laugh
at headquarters? Officer, I've neverbeen so happy to be arrested. And
