Welcome to the Builder of All Things Podcast—where we go beyond the pages of the book and explore into the Author’s Cut! 🔥 Join Richie Breaux and Ray Bisnar as they break down each chapter in micro-episodes, giving you the behind-the-scenes insights, deeper wisdom, and real-life applications—just like a Director’s Cut for a book.

In this episode, “Where Are You in the Storm,” we talk about positioning and preparation — because recognizing you’re in a storm is one thing… but knowing where you are in it is what helps you respond with wisdom, not panic.

🌬 Storms don’t just show up. They come with signals: the wind shifts, the clouds darken, thunder rumbles, lightning strikes… and then the rain hits. The same is true in life and business. If you can learn to discern the indicators, you can prepare, pivot, and protect what matters most.

💡 In this episode, we unpack:
* The four stages of a storm: the wind, the thunder, the lightning, and the rain
* How to recognize early indicators — both practical and spiritual — before the storm hits
* What it looks like to build “shelters” in business, leadership, and family
* Why preparing SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) for worst-case scenarios matters
* How storms reveal what’s solid and what needs to be strengthened or surrendered

📖 “Peace doesn’t come from the absence of the storm — it comes from the presence of the Builder of all things.”Whether your storm is still on the horizon or you’re in the thick of it, this episode is an invitation to slow down, pay attention, and ask the question: Where am I right now — and how is God using this?

🤍 From spiritual discernment to strategic business decisions, this conversation is for leaders, builders, and believers who don’t just want to survive the storm… but come out stronger on the other side.

👇 Drop a comment: What’s one way you’ve learned to recognize a storm early — before it fully hits?

SPEAKER_00 (00:17):
Can you talk about preparation and positioning?
Yeah, you know, with myexperience in, you know, Peoria,
Midwest, growing up there beforeI came to the islands, and those
things I shared with, you know, about you know, recognizing the
wind and then hearing thethunder, and then you see the
lightning, and then comes therain.

(00:38):
There's like an order there,right?
And so I felt like recognizingnumber one, you're in a storm or
a storm's coming, and thenrecognizing where you're at in
the storm.
Like, are you at tier one, two, three, or four kind of deal,
right?
So what I've naturally, youknow, I've done this, but now
I'm just trying to like defineit is through there's two parts

(01:00):
to the wind.
You know, the wind is first, like I was saying, it's like you
it's like a feeling, you feelwind.
You don't see it, but you feelit.
Yeah, you know, and there wasthe moisture change, and there's
just something you could feel.
And I I really believe thatthere's two things that happen
is just you've had enoughexperience in your business,
trade, and life that there's anintuition that develops

(01:20):
naturally, right?
And I would say when the windhappens, like when I was a kid,
pay attention.
Doesn't mean run back in thehouse, you know, like we're
playing a game, but be aware, don't ignore it, you know.
And sometimes it's actually Godspeaking to you too.
It's not just you may have noexperience in that situation,
and God will give you that samefeeling, that same kind of

(01:42):
intuition.
That's what we call the HolySpirit, right?
So He'll speak to you that wayas well.
But yeah, that win comes, Ithink pay attention, you know.
Like I have a I have thatexperience all the time with,
you know, in a lot of situationswhere I can just feel like we
need to email the client.
I just nothing else says why doit right now or like before the

(02:05):
day ends, but follow thoseleadings, you know.
There's this little like can'texplain it, you can't pinpoint
it.
It's just pay attention.
So that would be my first key isrecognize if if you feel
something, there's a reason why.
And doesn't mean you have tohave the answer yet, but go
ahead and note it, payattention, and be aware.
That's good.
That's like number one.
Don't don't just throw it off.
Like when the moisture changes, the wind, and you kind of see

(02:28):
the clouds doing a littlesomething different, then okay,
we're we're watching you, youknow.
Just record it.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, so that would be my firstindicator.
And typically, like when thatkind of thing happens and you
don't really have any processesin place, I would take
worst-case scenarios, workbackwards, and create SOPs for
risk limitations, right?

(02:49):
Brisk awareness of what youwould do, right?
Business gems, yeah.
Sorry, we're getting thebusiness gems, but but I mean,
be ready for every type ofstorm, right?
If it's a tornado, where are wegonna go?
And if the tornado goes rightover our head, you like have a
vision of worst-case scenariosand already put tactics and
SOPs.
SOP just really meansinstructions and a process to

(03:10):
get from A to Z.
That's all it means, right?
It's just okay, A is stand up,you know, and that's a
procedure, actually.
What we really want to do is getover there to that shelter, open
the doors, and get in.
That's that's what we need todo.
And the and in business, we liketo type out everything, man.
Like you got to stand up, walk10 feet, and I think it's a

(03:30):
little too much information, butbut when you're building these,
it's very important to havethese.
So even when the wind kicks inand your intuition kicks in, you
can sometimes determine whatkind of storm could be.
Yeah, you know, and then you'realready kind of okay.
If this just kind of taking thatmental note and that, okay, like
if it is the you know, I feellike the permitting is taking a

(03:53):
little bit longer than usual, you know.
And if that's the case, whatcould happen?
Oh, we people could stop doingwork if that happens.
Okay, I need to start doingpodcasts with with people that
are connected to makingdecisions with bills that have
to do with DPP.
That was an intuition thing.
I don't have to sit there withthe mayor and certain people,

(04:13):
but I made an intuition, I feelit coming and want to be a part
of the solution, not just hangout on the problem.
I'm already doing some workbased on intuition, right?
And so that's what births thosethings, you know.
It's like, why would, you know,am I doing trying to, you know,
create scenarios of survivingoutside of I'm pivoting now?

(04:34):
Okay, what kind of projectswhere we don't need permitting?
You know, and so you gotta youjust gotta think, okay, worst
case scenario.
Even everything's all good now, everything might not be all good
in the storm because indicatornumber two is what I call the
thunder.
You know, it's like once youhear that rumber rumble, you're
like, oh man, it's kind ofofficial now.
Like there is a storm, doesn'tmean it's gonna hit you, but

(04:57):
there's definitely a storm now.
Yeah, right.
So hearing it is like, is itaffecting you yet?
Or is it just noise that it'sit's out there but not affecting
you?
And so when you hear thethunder, it's like when I read,
you know, a magazine articleabout the DPP is taking longer
than usual.
I'm now hearing the noise.
Yeah, it's not just an intuitionanymore.

(05:18):
Yeah, now I'm speaking to other, you know, out there with another
colleague, and he's like, Man,is your permit taking a while?
Because it's like taking usalmost a year now.
The architect starts, I see inemails and you know, and just
the noise is getting real,right?
Yeah.
It's like, oh man, like thatthere is a storm out there.
It's approaching or it's it's onthe outskirts of me.

(05:40):
You know, it's it's notaffecting me yet, but it's on
the outskirts.
So when that starts happening, that's when you know, we just
start doing our preparation attier two now.
Like a little more, you know,it's real, give the team heads
up.
Like, hey, projects might notstart.
You know, it's okay to integratea little bit of that awareness.
They there's a storm, you know, just like storms do, they put

(06:00):
the little indicators on the TVback in the day.
So there's is warning or youknow, or the floating banner.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
So same kind of thing inbusiness and how you approach
certain things.
But then when you see thelightning, it's it's
collectively, it's something youcould see now.
And that's when the lightning iswhen you actually start seeing
it affecting you.
So it's not in the outskirtsanymore.

(06:22):
Lightning is like, okay, it'shitting ground.
Yeah.
You know what I mean?
It's no longer just in the sky,it's touching the earth.
You know, it's like, and andthen it's approaching too,
right?
And so now that it's affectingyou, maybe your profit margins
are losing a little bit, maybeyour sales aren't hitting what
they use.
You're starting to see it, yeah, like affecting you.
And so when those indicatorshappen, it's time for shelter.

(06:43):
It's time for protecting yourbusiness, it's time to stop
investing, it's time to stop,it's time to kind of like let
the team know, like, hey, thingslike this is this is a storm.
It could still like pass us, butit could like hit it, it's a
real storm now.
It's touching the ground, it canhit us dead on.
So, and then the last one's therain.
So, if you could be a businessowner, family, marriage, could

(07:04):
be in the middle of this rightnow.
That's when you're in the storm.
You know, and if you didn'tprepare for those indicators,
that's it is what it is, andyou're fearing the storm right
now, it's not too late.
Like you still can wake up thebuilder of all things.
It's not too late.
You know what I mean?
So sometimes you it's good tohave these indicators and and to
like pay attention and thenstart, you know, prepping teams

(07:26):
to understand it could be.
And then when it is happening, just start putting your
processes in place and get yourshelter and ready for the storm.
But when the rain comes andyou're in it, man, that's when
it's all fate.
That you can imagine, like inTwister when the storm was
hitting, it was just oncethey're at their shelter, man,
they're just holding each otherand hope they don't blow away.
You know what I mean?
It's like the rain is whenyou're in it, but when you're in

(07:47):
it, in it, and that's what thosedisciples on the boat were, they
were in it, in it.
And so they they had to make achoice on whether to try to
control it from there or to wakeup the builder of all things to
just kind of seize the day.
And so, just going back on whatI said, man, that peace doesn't
come from the absence of thestorm, it comes in the presence
of the builder of all things, iswhere you get to really rest

(08:10):
peacefully and understandingthat he is in control of the
storms that come, he is the onethat's in control of allowing it
to begin in the first place.
So if he's uh in control ofallowing it to pass and to stop
it, like everything in themiddle, as much as it sucks,
it's gonna shake your foundationand all the things that need to

(08:30):
fall off.
So you know what you gotta fix.
And if you're not, if it shutsyou down, then praise God.
Because Paul in Acts 27 was on aship, let's call it a boat, it's
going off, and that storm hitthem.
That boat didn't survive.
But not one person was injuredon that ship.
Every single one, I shouldn'tsay injured, I'm pretty sure

(08:50):
they had scratches and brokenarms, but but they they all
survived.
Now one died for sure.
They all made it to land, theyhad to swim, but they all made
it.
Every single one accounted for.
Yeah, so sometimes even the boatwill sink, but you weren't meant
to do a business at that time orthat type of business in that
time, and that's acceptable,right?
And so, either way, at the endof the day, God, when there's a

(09:12):
storm, he is shaking you, tryingto see what you need to work on.
And sometimes it's not todestroy or to shake, sometimes
it's just to reroute.
Yeah, you know, redirect.
Like sometimes the storm's rightthere, and you just can't go
forward no more.
Right.
You know, like, oh we gotta gothis way then.
Yeah, let's dodge the sword.

(09:32):
So sometimes it's just to pivotyou, yeah, you know, and get you
in a new direction.
