(01:14):
This is Business with ChronicIllness.
Hello, my beautiful people, Ihave been sick as a dog, sick as
a dog.
But before I get into me beingsick as a dog, this episode is
about the three ways you'resabotaging yourself from making
money with more ease and speed.
So I did a little write upabout this in my email, on my
email that went out today, soyou're kind of getting a little
(01:35):
bit of this.
But I'm going like a little bitmore deep dive into this topic
on the three ways you'resabotaging yourself from making
money with ease or easier andfaster and with speed.
I want to give you guys just aheads up.
I am recovering from the cold ofthe summer that just like took
(01:56):
me out, like I thought it wasCOVID.
It was definitely not COVID, itwas some kind of other thing
flu something, and it definitelyfelt like COVID.
But anyway, my voice is doing aweird little thing of.
You know, we've been coughingand hacking and blowing my nose
and all of that beautiful thingfor the last two weeks.
So bear with me.
(02:16):
Bear with me and my raspy voice, if you will, and my sips of
water, if you happen to hearthat.
But let's get into it.
Let's get into why I'm talkingabout this.
Oh, my goodness, this issomething that I don't think we
hear enough about around thetopic, around the fact that we
(02:38):
can get in our own way ofcreating the result that we want
.
We sometimes go all in on allof these strategies and all of
these courses and trainings andeverything without taking some
time to reflect on am I theproblem?
Is it me?
Is that Taylor Swift?
Hi hello, I'm the problem.
(03:01):
It's me.
Have we taken a moment to takea look at ourselves in this?
And I see this come up not justfor myself, but when I've
worked with clients.
When I'm working with clients,I see this, and I see this a lot
, depending on where clients arein their journey of either
becoming an entrepreneur orbeing an entrepreneur while
(03:23):
living with chronic illness, orjust in general, like dealing
with everyday life hurdles ortrying to transition from one
type of like persona of a personin their work life to a
different type of work lifepersona.
So I thought this was reallyimportant, especially since we
are in that half time of theyear where some of us feel like,
(03:46):
oh well, if we haven't attainedour goals yet, it's over, we're
not going to happen, it's notgoing to happen, or where some
of us are feeling the pressureof making it happen.
So we start to tap into some ofthese self-sabotaging things.
I'm going to share a little bitmore and I wanted to bring some
more context and nuance to whatI share with you all on my email
list and, by the way, if you'renot on my email list, you
(04:07):
should be that's where I shareexclusive content.
Oftentimes it happens therebefore you hear it here.
I kind of use my podcast in myemail as my exclusive content
machine.
Where anywhere else you getthings, you will get it maybe in
a different way, a differentspeaking about it.
But I've talked about it before, and first here on the
(04:29):
Instagram, here on podcasts, here on the podcast or in my
email.
So what are some of the threeways?
So one of them is dreamdownsizing.
So this is where I've seen thishappen most frequently, when we
don't believe that what wethought was impossible is
(04:50):
possible.
Now that we're living inwhatever time, energy,
circumstance, whatever right andI want to caveat this
tremendously Do I recognize anddo I know that some things, when
it comes to things that youwant in your dream, are going to
(05:10):
be affected and sometimessnatched from you because of
those different variables, yes,but often what I have found is
that many of us snatch them awayfrom ourselves because of not
knowing any other way of doingsomething, of not being aware of
(05:30):
the tools and the resources outthere to create this result,
because of conditioning, becauseof lack of awareness around
what is actually possible, whatis actually possible.
So, and also our thoughts aboutourselves, our thoughts about
(05:52):
what we're capable, our thoughtsabout our worth, our value, all
of this has a lot to do withdream downsizing, and when I say
dream downsizing I just meanlike you have a vision for doing
something and then life happens, your chronic illness happens
and it seems like it'sabsolutely impossible to attain,
(06:12):
it is impossible to achieve, itcannot happen, right?
And I want to show you how it'sfunny that, even though you
tell yourself and you go downthis rabbit hole of this is
impossible, there's no way forme to do it.
If it is a deep enough desire,if it's a deep enough strength
(06:37):
and thing that you justnaturally do, subconsciously,
you will try to create it insome other form and call it so
different and make, and it willfeel more difficult and not
enough.
So here's what I mean.
Let's take, for example you hada dream of being a Pilates
(06:59):
instructor.
I used a different example inthe email, but I'm going to use
this one because this isrelevant-ish to me and I never
would have thought of this.
But this is just a randomhypothetical.
Just roll with me.
Okay, roll with me.
Imagine you are an active person, you are a volleyball player,
(07:19):
you volunteer a lot of your time, you're walking all of the time
, you're doing all of thesethings, you're living your best
life and you're like physicallyfeeling good and great and
everything's great.
And you are also doing Pilatesand you love Pilates.
It's like such a thing, youlove it, it's the thing that
helps you so much, and just yourstability and feeling confident
(07:42):
.
And then you have an accident.
You break your knee, your kneegets cracked or something in
some other activity, and now itfeels like Pilates.
And becoming maybe the Pilatesinstructor that you thought you
were going to be at some pointis another thing that you would
lean into.
Can't happen, it's just notgoing to happen, it's just not
(08:07):
your thing anymore.
And you have now decided thatyou can't be this Pilates
instructor as well.
You've decided that's not adream that's really attainable.
You've decided it's notsomething you can do.
So what?
Naturally?
And what I've seen oftentimeswith clients who come to me who
are like, when I ask them whatdo you want?
(08:27):
They first have to really thinkabout it and they give me, like
this answer that seems likethis is what they want, because
this is all they believe theycan want.
And then it's like but what doyou really want?
If you didn't break your knee,if you didn't have a chronic
illness, if you didn't have somerandom crazy life circumstances
, what would it?
(08:52):
What would you actually want?
Like what would that be right?
And when I hear what theyactually actually really want
versus what they have toldthemselves that they want,
they're not that much different.
Okay, so let's go back to thisPilates instructor person who
wants to be a Pilates instructor.
So she's like believing she cannever be a Pilates instructor,
right?
She's got this knee issue, shefinds out.
Well, she's got rheumatoidarthritis and she's got this
(09:12):
inflammatory, other fibromyalgiathing and she just knows she's
not going to be able toaccomplish in her head this
lifestyle of being a Pilatesinstructor.
It's just not going to happenthe way she thought it was going
to happen.
And so she now tells herselfwell, I don't want that, I can't
have that, so let me think ofother ways of doing something
(09:32):
else.
So, instead of being a Pilatesinstructor, she starts looking
for other ways to pursue herphysicalness.
So she starts doing she's likeI'm going to teach people'm
going to want to teach peoplehow to stretch, I'm going to be
become a person who understandsstretching right.
And she's like I'm going tostart a business all about
(09:53):
stretching and I am going tolike share with people how they
can stretch at home.
I'm going to learn different.
You know movements forstretching and that way you know
it's not Pilates, but it'sstill physical and I'm still
doing this thing.
So here she goes, trying toshare and learn about stretching
(10:13):
.
She's doing it, but she's notpassionate about it.
But hey, it's working.
People are coming to her.
She's like somehow likecreating some momentum.
People are coming and wantingto learn how to stretch from
home.
And as she's going through thisprocess, she's finding it really
challenging from an energeticspace, a time space where she
(10:35):
feels drained and unmotivatedand like why isn't this working
the way?
I want it to work right?
And then she walks into aPilates studio because of course
they're stretching in a Pilatesstudio.
And you know she tells people, you know we're really, I'm
really looking to share mystretching class or whatever
(10:56):
she's doing, with theircommunity.
And it's it's not Pilates, butit's a close second, best right.
And the instructor goes, theother person goes oh, that's
really interesting, so sharewith me.
Like, what kind of things areyou doing?
So she shares with them whatthey're kind of doing and
they're like so how's it working?
She's like well, you knowpeople are coming.
(11:17):
I'm just not really thatmotivated to like all the time
do all of the things that'srequired for me to talk about
stretching.
It's kind of boring to me.
I kind of get frustrated whenother people aren't doing it.
A certain way I also get tiredof trying to explain, like how
stretching is so important, like, but you know it is important,
(11:38):
like it's a thing I need to do.
And then the Pilates instructorsays and then the Pilates
instructor says how is this anydifferent than Pilates?
And in that moment this personwho's like thinking she's never
going to be able to be a Pilatesinstructor, has realized like
she's already doing the majorityof the work it would require
her to be a Pilates instructor, but she's doing it, teaching
(12:00):
people to stretch and hate itright and hating it.
And so what I have found is thatmany of you have told yourself
you can't pursue a dream, youcan't pursue this new pivot or
this new reality or this newthing.
That's a difference that you'rereally interested in.
And so you go, try pursuingsomething else that's probably
(12:21):
pretty close to, or sometimessome clients are like completely
opposite and then they'rewondering why it's not working,
why they're so frustrated, whythey're banging their head, why
this feels like it's so hard.
And it's because they believeso much right now that the thing
that they truly want, there'sno way to attain it, there's no
way to get to that thing.
(12:42):
But here's what I wanna offeryou and this is self-sabotage
y'all the same amount of workand energy and effort that feels
so heavy that you're doing inthese other things that's not
really the thing you want to dowould feel more light, more easy
and more fulfilling and happenfaster, even though you take
(13:05):
your time with taking the babysteps to achieve that thing in a
different way.
So if this woman had justdecided you guys remember, this
is a hypothetical If this womandecided, you know what?
I can't be a Pilates instructorlike a year from now with all
of these new things that I'vegot going on, but I can figure
out a way to step into thatplace.
(13:27):
What kind of differentdecisions would she have made?
How many other things would shebe more motivated and committed
to to attain that goal, eventhough it may take her a
different route of achievingthat right?
And some of you might belistening well, what if
(13:47):
stretching was that other way?
She finally realized that'swhere she wants to go and she's
going to be in Pilates, absolutely, absolutely.
That is a possibility, but manyof you all don't actually get to
that step because you don'tbelieve you are worthy, you
don't believe you are capable.
You have told yourself that youcannot.
There's no one else that can doit.
(14:08):
There's no one doing this thinglike that.
Right, when you lean intocuriosity and you lean into
learning and knowing and likegathering information, you might
find that you can achieve thatbig goal, but just in a
different time frame than thetime frame you thought you would
(14:29):
actually accomplish it.
So if you're in this time of theyear where you feel like you
can't accomplish this goal thatyou may have set earlier in the
year, so you're gonna make asmaller goal.
I want you to reassess andreally look at it and being like
well, is it that I can't attainthis goal, or is it that I need
to keep the goal but adjust theway that I'm going at it?
(14:52):
Right, is that what I need todo?
How can I do that If you'vebeen doing it alone, I can
guarantee.
That's the reason why it'schallenging.
Ask someone else who might beable to give you other feedback
of how you can get to wherethey're going or where you want
to be that you think isimpossible, and your brain will
tell you that it's impossibleuntil you're like, basically
(15:15):
right in front of it, right, andyou give yourself baby steps.
I call this baby, like it's ababy step framework that you
kind of just guide yourself intodoing the thing.
So I use Pilates, for example, because I had an injury a year
or so ago and also I was incrazy flare-up, crazy flare-up
(15:36):
and for a while I just toldmyself I can't do it.
I didn't even try to doanything different.
I'm just like I'm not.
I'm just I just can't do it.
I don't think there's any otherway.
But part of me knows that I can, because I've come back from
much greater situations when itcomes to my knee and getting
back on the horse, so to speak.
So I'm like it's just right now, I'm okay to rest, but I will
(15:56):
get back to Pilates.
Notice the difference.
I will get back to it.
I don't know how I'm going toget back to it, but I will Right
.
And during this time I've beenworking on my mindset.
I've been working on like how, what are the baby steps I need
to do?
One keep doing the motions thathappen with Pilates, keep
thinking about them, keepengaging in different ways so
(16:20):
that you don't lose the musclememory that you gained over a
year, two years of doing this soconsistently right.
Secondly, talk about how thisis challenging for you, how you
want to get back to it.
So talk about it Like I talkabout it with my husband, I talk
about it with my therapist, Italk about it with my friends
and, like the people in mycongregation, I'm like, yeah, I
love Pilates, but I haven't beenin like a year.
(16:40):
It helps me stay accountable.
To like this is dreaming.
This is something I reallyenjoy and I'm as challenging as
it is if I keep talking about, the more I'm going to figure out
how to make it work, how I'mgoing to figure it out.
I'm going to figure it outRight.
And so that's led to a textmessage to my Pilates instructor
of being like, hey, if I weregoing to come back, if I wanted
(17:01):
to do such and such, can I justdo like a 30 minute, you know,
if that session, private session, just to start with, that's all
I've done, that's all theconversations I've had, because
then I got a cold and I'm likeall janky and yucky but like
like all janky and yucky, butlike you see how I did that it's
(17:22):
okay to pursue other things inyour life while you still stay
committed to the thing youactually want to achieve,
because when you do, you findthe solutions to achieve it.
It's when you give up and tellyourself you can never, or you
it's not, you are not capable ofcreating that reality.
But you are.
We are powerful.
We have been wonderfully madeto be able to accomplish so many
(17:45):
things, even in the state ofimperfection and in state of
strife in the world that we seetoday.
So how do you identify theself-sabotaging thing?
Look at the things that youactually wanted to do before,
maybe having a chronic illnessor before some event happened?
Right, what were some of thosethings that you wanted to do?
(18:07):
Are those things that stillfeel aligned and good for you?
Are they still passionate?
Like, do you still have apassion for you?
Is it still a skill that youhave?
Is it a skill you want tocontinue to develop?
Like identify what you want.
Many of us are walking aroundthis world doing things that we
don't want and mad about it.
We can change that.
We can change that.
(18:28):
It may not happen overnight.
It may mean that you're doingsome other thing in order to
support you getting to what youwant, but you can attain it.
It can happen, but it only canhappen if you identify what it
is that you want and choose towant it, choose to fulfill it,
choose to find ways to makesteps to get to doing that right
(18:49):
.
So that is one way you'reself-sabotaging yourself for
making money, because whathappens is, if you're not doing
what you want, you end upspending a lot more time and
energy doing something you don'twant to do and it feels like
trudging water and you actuallydon't make that much money and
you don't save that much timebecause you're trying to force
something to work.
Okay, so that's self-sabotagenumber one.
(19:10):
Number two you get caught up inall of the tiny, non-specific
important things in yourbusiness that look pretty, that
feel easy sort of, but youreally only need to focus on the
(19:31):
thing that help you tell yourstory, show up for your audience
and demonstrate and show peoplehow you help them.
Right, if you have found thatyou're specifically in your
business right now and you'renot where you want to be in your
finances or your lead thingslike you're in your lead
pipeline, and this also appliesin your personal life If you
(19:55):
find yourself not getting to thegoal of where you wanna be in
your personal life, if you findyourself not getting to the goal
of where you want to be in yourpersonal life, where are you
spending a lot of time doingthings that don't get you to
where you actually want to be,that make the biggest impact for
you getting to where you wantto be?
So, unless building a websiteand you're going to focus on
cold lead traffic and you'regoing to be focusing on
networking where people are justgoing to visit your website,
(20:16):
you don going to focus on coldlead traffic and you're going to
be focusing on like networking, where people are just going to
visit your website, you don'tneed to be worried about your
website.
People spend a lot of time ontrying to make things so pretty
I have been that person.
I love pretty but sometimes weget so wrapped up in making
things pretty that we lose focuson the thing that actually gets
(20:37):
people to decide whether or notthey're going to work with you,
which, honestly, is peopleknowing and seeing you and you
showing up and providing valueand helping them to see what's
possible for them, what'spossible that they believe
that's impossible, right?
This is what builds trust andthat happens a lot faster.
(20:59):
The reason why you end upfocusing on other things that
are kind of like behind thescenes, that are like small
little details of things, isit's sometimes the fear of you
know, the fear of success, thefear of failure, the fear of
(21:25):
someone thinking you don't knowwhat you're talking about.
Or maybe you feel like youdon't know what you're talking
about.
Maybe you feel like you don'thave enough experience.
Maybe you feel that if youhaven't attained this goal right
now in your life, you probablywon't right.
Your beliefs have a lot to dowith where you spend your time.
(21:46):
If you spend your timetinkering on all these little
small things versus showing upand letting people learn from
what you have to share yourstory and the way you help
people solve problems and howyou help people attain what they
want, then you're kind oftrying to keep yourself small
(22:08):
and you can be visible and stillhave a modest business.
You can be visible and you canbe visible and you can share and
support people and still haveand not and still be humble,
right?
So it's about reallyidentifying.
Am I my?
One of my coaches calls itbuffering Am I buffering?
Am I over here like tinkeringon this Canva post forever
(22:31):
because it needs to be perfect?
Am I over here tinkering with, like the back end of my
automations and everything tomake sure everything is super
crisp, to the point?
Is my perfection my perfectionof wanting everything to be so
perfect where I can't show up asmyself getting in the way of me
(22:53):
getting to the next level orgrowing in my business?
Am I doing that to myself, like?
Those are some of the things tokeep in mind.
And lastly, this is this, isthis is.
If you haven't figured it out, this third one is like really
tied to everything, but you areneglecting mindset work.
You think that mindset work isnot really that important.
(23:16):
You just need to know strategy, right?
So you keep trying lots ofstrategy, lots of different
strategy.
You keep learning lots ofdifferent strategies.
You keep trying to do all ofthe strategies perfectly, and
yet you aren't spending thatsame amount of time and effort
on your mindset work, on how youbelieve, like what you believe
(23:39):
about yourself, what you believeis possible, what you believe
is not possible, what youbelieve you're worth, what you
believe you're not worth.
Right, what you believe createsimpact and what you believe
doesn't create impact andresults.
Right, your mindset and energylevels are significantly
(24:00):
impacted by your actions andyour results.
So if you're spending a lot oftime learning all of these
different strategies and you'regetting frustrated and keep
trying to learn new ones, youbest believe your mindset and
your energy is also going to gotank tank, which means you're
not going to, you're going toget stuck, you're not going to
want to do stuff.
You might be in that placeright now.
(24:20):
You might be in the place rightnow where you have been trying
all of these new things and it'snot working, but you're also,
you haven't been payingattention to your mindset
because you have just said oh,it's just, it has nothing to do
with my mindset, right?
So you're self-sabotagingbecause you keep telling
yourself it's more about thestrategy than about how I think
(24:43):
about myself and about me doingthe strategy.
Okay, when you get your mind onboard with whatever strategy
you're doing, if you can fullybe in it, you create better
results.
Because your mind is on board, right?
Because when your mind is onboard, your body's on board and
(25:05):
these forces work together.
Your mind and body worktogether.
It's energetic, it's science,it's how it works, it's how we
work.
So you can't take the tool, these strategies, that you have
the hammer, and expect theperson using the hammer to aim
correctly if they are notlooking at the instruction
(25:26):
manual of how they can use thehammer or how a person needs to
be operating in order to operatethat hammer effectively, right?
So you have to do some of thiswork on yourself mindset-wise,
and oftentimes we self-sabotageourselves in thinking well, if
I'm doing the strategies, then Idon't need to do the mindset.
(25:50):
If I just get perfect at doingthe strategies, I don't really
have to worry about the mindsetwork.
But guess what?
The strategy requires yourmindset to be with you while
you're implementing thestrategies.
So, if you're writing, if yourstrategy is podcasting to be the
main way for you to get outlong-form content to attract
(26:14):
clients when you need to restwhile you're dealing with
whatever flare-up in life thingsthat you actually want, and you
are doing the strategy oncreating content, answering
questions, but your brain andyour head says this isn't going
to work.
Nobody's going to listen to me,nobody even knows what I'm
doing.
I don't know what I'm doing.
(26:34):
You will, one, not be as clearand confident, you will, two,
not be as consistent and itwon't be sustainable, right?
So can you get some results?
Results?
Absolutely, you can have likesome trash mindset and get
result, as long as you continueto work on your mindset
(26:56):
intentionally.
This is something I teach myclients like.
You don't have to have aperfect mindset in order to
create results.
You just have to intentionallybe working on your mindset all
of the time, like as much aspossible in order to create
results.
Even though you're notperfectly in your, like your
mindset all of the time.
Like as much as possible inorder to create results.
Even though you're notperfectly in your like, your
mindset isn't perfect, right, you have to have the belief work
(27:16):
behind.
I am a work in progress andbecause I am a work in progress
and my mindset's a work inprogress, whatever strategies I
implement are going to see theresults of that, as long as I
continue to intentionally workon my mindset.
So don't discount this.
When you work on your mindsetintentionally, you actually make
the strategies feel more easy, more effortless and helps you to
(27:40):
create more results faster whenyou're doing the mindset work
along with working on thosestrategies.
Okay, so you might be like thekey to the dog.
This is kind of heavy, this iskind of deep.
It's just a few of theself-sabotaging things that I've
actually noticed working withsome clients, getting some sales
(28:00):
calls and seeing this and alsojust in the industry of what I'm
seeing, as far as like theposts that I'm seeing and the
content that I'm seeing fromsome people, is that there is
this there are some of thesethings that are happening where
people are leaving industries,People are deciding that this
business model doesn't work ordidn't, and I think a lot of
(28:21):
these things are just symptomsof some of these sabotaging,
mostly mindset things that werenot dealt with before and
weren't part of the reason, likeweren't part of the holistic
solution to how they wereapproaching their business,
right?
And so I don't want that foryou.
I don't want that for anyone,right?
(28:43):
I don't want you to get to theend of the year.
I mean like this is not what Iwant, and it's because you never
asked yourself what you wantedand it's because you never
actually explored what it isthat you wanted.
We get afraid of exploring, doing things that we think are
impossible, because it feelsuncomfortable.
But what if you explore whatwas impossible and it didn't
(29:05):
feel as impossible anymore?
Wow, what, wow, right?
So we are afraid of ourfeelings, we're afraid of the
unknowns, we're afraid of thestatus quo not being our status
quo, and so, therefore, we startself-sabotaging, start making
ourselves smaller, we startworking on things that don't
(29:25):
really get us to the next placethat we actually wanna be, and
it makes us stop doing the workon our own thoughts and our own
beliefs, and those things all intogether affect how you're able
to make money with ease or not, right?
So I wanted to share that withyou all.
I hope this was helpful.
I hope it made sense.
I gave a much more clear, concise example of this in the
(29:49):
email that I'm sending you, andI also did a shorter video like
a real quick video about this ona loom video that I did like in
while I was still like a littlebit sicker than I am today, but
I kind of just wanted to golike real ham on this for you
all to kind of get some clarity.
So how do I help you?
Like not self-sabotage.
(30:11):
In any of my containers you'reworking with me One in my
one-to-one coaching.
I am quick to identify whenyou're self-sabotaging.
I also teach you to know howyou are self-sabotaging.
I also teach you how to goafter and create a business that
is not only profitable but it'ssustainable for you and your
(30:32):
energy energetically, becausethat is important, right?
And so, because I do that withyou on a one-on-one basis, I'm
not just giving you supportwithout any access to me.
You get access to me, getaccess to a free team member to
support you and getting you towhere you want to go, and I also
help you see things from adifferent perspective.
(30:53):
But you start to see things froma different perspective by just
changing the way you'rethinking and believing about
what's possible.
Right, it changes everything, but you get the strategy, you
get the tools you need, you getthe systems and all of that to
actually run your businessonline, living with chronic
illness and make a livableincome.
(31:14):
And you get support on someonehelping you to know, hey, you're
about to run off a cliff, don'tgo over there.
Right, and that's the power ofone to one coaching is having
someone over there with you, being like who's done it before,
to be like hey, also, you'regoing to hit some bumps in the
road.
Let's try to avoid some ofthose bumps in the road.
Let's also avoid some confusionand overwhelm that happens from
(31:37):
advice that you're consumingfrom the world that's not
considering what your life islike living with chronic illness
.
That's the kind of work that wedo within our one-to-one
container.
So if you'd like to learn moreabout that, go ahead and book a
call and I will see you on thenext episode.
