Barney “Scout” Mann is on the podcast to talk about a lifetime of being in the outdoors. His new book, Journeys North, is the tale of his hike from Mexico to Canada on the Pacific Crest Trail.
It’s more than that though… The story includes many of the hikers who crossed his path and of course his wife. Backstories help the reader understand current situations and Scout does a wonderful job at interweaving these into his story.
I have since read the book. Honestly, it reads like a book of fiction even knowing the truth behind it. In the past, I have read plenty of PCT books, but this one stands out as completely capturing the culture of the trail and those who hike it.
Order Journeys North on Amazon, REI or order a copy signed by the author.

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist
It’s 1996 in rural North Carolina, and an oddball crew makes history when they pull off America’s third largest cash heist. But it’s all downhill from there. Join host Johnny Knoxville as he unspools a wild and woolly tale about a group of regular ‘ol folks who risked it all for a chance at a better life. CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist answers the question: what would you do with 17.3 million dollars? The answer includes diamond rings, mansions, velvet Elvis paintings, plus a run for the border, murder-for-hire-plots, and FBI busts.
