In a follow-up to last week’s BONUS EPISODE and to this past Sunday’s broadcast about the ASUW Shellhouse – best known as home to the “Boys in the Boat” - Feliks Banel speaks with two officials from the University of Washington about their work to preserve and update the beloved structure along the Montlake Cut. We also hear the UW's response to recent concerns expressed by some advisory board members that the project is not turning out as some donors and advisory board members had wanted, as far as historic preservation is concerned. Guests are Kristine Kenney, Executive Director, Campus Architecture and Planning for UW Facilities and Asset Management, and Kathryn Rogers Merlino, Associate Professor, Department of Architecture, Director of the Center for Preservation and Adaptive Reuse, and a member of the ASUW Shellhouse Advisory Board. They spoke with CASCADE OF HISTORY via Zoom on the morning of Thursday, June 12, 2025. CASCADE OF HISTORY is broadcast LIVE most Sunday nights at 8pm Pacific Time via SPACE 101.1 FM in Seattle and gallantly streams everywhere via space101fm.org. The radio station is located at historic Magnuson Park - formerly Sand Point Naval Air Station - on the shores of Lake Washington in Seattle.
