Cain walked away from the presence of the LORD, and his descendants, though wealthy, successful and beautiful, will continue to grow in corruption. That point is captured in the description of Lamech, son of Cain, and his children. Yet at the same time, God’s providence is working through the line of Seth to bring both judgment and mercy upon the earth for the sake of fulfilling God’s promise spoken to Adam and Eve in Genesis 3:15. This son of Lamech, the son named Noah, will be a righteous man and a deliverer of the elect who will then father the nations following the devastating flood to come.
