Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back Colt's Corner with myself, Kevin Bow and Eddie Garrison.
Week two of the preseason upon us, and really we're
about ready to close up shop on life at Grand Park.
Good Tuesday morning, that's when we're coming to you right now.
I guess addie. We're done with Colts v.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
Colts.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
We just wrapped up three straight days in the afternoon
heat here of the Midwest. Of that and outside of
a joint practice with the Green Bay Packers on Thursday,
it is complete. That would be the twenty twenty five
training camp, a preseason game Saturday afternoon against the Packers,
and then no more camp after that. You'll have one
(00:37):
final preseason game in Cincinnati a week from Saturday, and
that is it for this offseason. How are you, sir?
Speaker 3 (00:46):
I'm well. Are you you excited?
Speaker 4 (00:47):
You?
Speaker 3 (00:48):
Are you sad? You indifferent? On camp being over?
Speaker 1 (00:51):
It's kind of funny. I feel like at this point
it's a bit of mixed emotions. I love camp. I
love the fact that like we get to watch it,
the access is great again. We're inching closer to answers
of all the questions we've had, so like all of that,
I really enjoy. There is a little bit of like, yeah, boy,
I think I'm kind of ready for it to be
over with. Of course, you know, pass me in ten
(01:12):
fourteen days when we only get to watch like twenty
minutes of practice moving forward, and I'll proably feel differently,
So a little bit of mixed emotions. It's certainly been hot,
I would say, Shane Siken, I think is strategically kind
of scheduled. There probably haven't been even though they just
did three straight days. There maybe haven't been as maybe
consistent days in a row, but they have really gone
a ton of full pads and yesterday was a really
(01:35):
lively scrimmage feel to the practice. So I think those
are some of the wrinkles we've seen here with this
year's camp. So we'll go over the Saturday, Sunday, Monday
practices after the Baltimore game preview. A little bit of
Green Bay La latsu will be the interview that we
play on today's pod. We did this kind of early
in camp, but boy, Latsuo has been really good. If
(01:57):
I had to make a mount rushmore of Colt's Camps
players here in twenty twenty five, number ninety seven would
definitely be on it, so we'll play that upcoming before
we get to Twitter.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
Question. Correct me if I'm wrong here. Is it typical
for them to have technically training camp end before the
third and final preseason game.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
It feels like an earlier end of camp. Yeah, it
definitely does. You know, again, they've only had two joint practices,
so they only will have two joints, so that number
feels a little bit smaller. So yeah, I would I
would agree on that. Let's go back Eddie a little
bit to Saturday and just kind of go in chronological
order Saturday, Sunday, Monday with those practices. Saturday was again
(02:38):
a red zone focused day, and Anthony Richardson had one
of his poorest days of camp. He was one of six.
If I have the red zone days right, I want
to say he's four of sixteen in total in those
two days. Now, when you get in the red zone,
you're obviously gonna run it a little bit more. So
I don't think it's the most alarming thing in the world.
But you know, we also grade quarterbacks more on the
(03:00):
down red zone two minute one throw can be the
difference between seven and three when you get into that
area of the field, you gotta throw at anticipation a
little bit more. You got a fitballs in the tighter windows,
and clearly he has struggled in that area. Daniel Jones
is actually a lot better in that Saturday practice than
he was. It also was kind of our first glimpse.
(03:21):
We still weren't fully into the you know, Kenny Moore
knee situation that he's dealing with right now. But that
was kind of justin Wally, all right, now, what are
they gonna do at third corner? Names that I'm watching
there definitely Samuel Wellmack chrys Lamon's in the slot, but
outside Eddie Jonathan Edwards number thirty five, undrafted out of Tulane,
(03:41):
Johnson number thirty nine, who was with the Giants last year.
Jerome Henderson, the Colts dB coach, came over from New York.
You know, Edwards and Johnson both body type wise kind
of match up, and I think Edwards has had some
decent moments here in camps. Have noticed Duke Shelley a
little bit more, number thirty four. He's played and had
(04:05):
a cup of coffee or two in the league. So
that was kind of the main stuff on Saturday. You know,
Reggie Wayne talked afterwards about with Adie Mitchell, he feels
like the arrow is pointing up, but he also wants
to make sure that there's no free lancing going on,
or I should say minimal freelancing when it comes with
ad Mitchell. I thought the Sunday practice was much better.
(04:27):
Richardson eleven of sixteen. Jones had a really poor first period,
probably one of the first worst periods he's had of
camp total. He was two of seven early on, and
that was kind of the downfield stuff. So, you know,
I think, honestly, what we've seen if Dan Jones is
about what we thought we would see, and it's when
(04:49):
you try to throw the ball down the field, it's
not super accurate and or efficient. Connection have everyone to
call it, you know, I would say one j quarterback positive.
And I know Richardson threw a lolly popped at Shaveri's
ward Yester. I think he thought ward was gonna play
man and run with Michael Pittman Junior, and he just
(05:09):
settled into that cover two zone and threw one right
to him. For the most part, Eddie, they've done a
really nice job both quarterbacks in not throwing interceptions I
mean we're north of about three hundred combined passes in
team drills. They've only been picked off four times HM,
So I think that's a positive now, of course, with everything, Okay,
(05:29):
let's continue on the context. Since the Justin Wally torn acl,
Kenny moorees now missed the last two days.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
What's his injury again?
Speaker 1 (05:38):
N I believe Stephen Holder had a report. Doesn't think
it's too serious. The quarterback should be better. I mean,
right now, you're without four of your top five corners.
The cross hasn't practiced in a week, you know, with
a hip injuries, So a hunterd Woller is getting those reps.
I mean your passing game should be feasting. I don't
think it's feasting, but I do think they have been
the better group when you compare passing offense versus defense.
(06:01):
The last couple of days. You know, I guess injuries.
You know we've pretty much mentioned all of them. Quitty
pay is also I think it's a hip. He's also missed.
He played a series right in the preseason game. Yes,
him and lat two both right, so he's missed a
little bit there. Following the Sunday practice, we did get
clarification on what the preseason plan will be playing time
(06:23):
wise for Saturday. I think Matt Lafleur said they're not
going to play their guys. I need to double check that.
I believe that's what he said. But as far as
the cults are concerned, they will flip the quarterback plan.
So Daniel Jones will get the initial run and play
a series or two, and then Anthony Richardson will play
the rest of the first quarter. In that second quarter,
so try to get the quarter in a half for Richardson.
(06:46):
It sounds like the defense will play their starters about
a quarter and the other starters on offense. So again,
it's a little bit more than probably the Colts have
honestly done, which I think is something that they should do.
I am curious this general thought. Eddie to Saturday, m hm,
does Anthony Richardson need to play well? You know, if
(07:10):
you go back to Thursday night, that was not a
good night for him. No, Now, the sample size was small,
but that was a self inflicted sample size was small.
His misidentification miss Reid led to his knight ending early.
If he has a subpar performance on Saturday, what does
that do?
Speaker 3 (07:31):
That's a good question.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
You know, how much do you ignore if you're Shane Steichen, I.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
Don't think you can ignore on field production against backups.
That is confirmed, yes, because Lafloor did say that starters
would play in the joint practice for the coltson not
play any snaps in the preseason game.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
There you go, Yeah, not only backups, but game setting
against another team. You know, all of it checks out,
So you know, I've largely agreed with the premise out there.
A tie goes to Richardson. I've said before, I think
Sichen's a lot more open minded to Jones than people
really want to admit. And if you get all these
tea leaves that are telling you, gosh, man, now it's
(08:09):
happening again. In the game, Stiken doesn't strike. I don't know.
Maybe he does, but I don't get the feeling he
definitely wants to continue this competition next week. I don't
get that vibe, but I don't know. Maybe he will
continue it during the Cincinnati game.
Speaker 3 (08:24):
I mean, is any coordinator or head coach want their
quarterback competition going this far in the camp?
Speaker 1 (08:30):
No? That's yeah, that's probably a very fair and very
obvious point that you make there. Yeah, now that is
that is well said yesterday. I thought again quarterbacks were better.
They both were really good. To end practice set up
the scene from yesterday again long practice situational scrimmage is changed.
Second on the megaphone out there, second and four, second
(08:50):
and four. I feel like I was watching a scene
from Rudy. But he had them lined up with the
fifty minutes ago one time out down set and like
the Patriot game last year, it was if you score,
you're going for two. Well, Richardson had a very smooth
drive Tyler Warren down the seam. I think that was
a touchdown. I don't know. They might have called him
down to the one and had Richardson just run it in.
(09:12):
But then two point version to Josh Downs, beautiful loft
to throw. Downs made a great diving catch at him.
But you know, in those again short areas of the field,
i e. The red zone, especially the low red zone,
you only have certain windows to fit it in. And
then Jones did also have a touchdout. It looked like
they were going to stall out the second unit with Jones,
but he found Doolan in what I think was a
(09:35):
here was a legit white out going against a tenth corner,
but nonetheless touchdown there, and then Jones ranted him for
the two point version. So I had Jones yesterday twenty
one to twenty seven. Jelanie Woods and eighty Mitchell each
had a drop there. I had Richardson eighteen to twenty
three with that iron t You know, I hate to
make too much out of run plays in camp because
(09:57):
I think they're difficult to really evaluate. But Taylor did
rip off what looked to be about a seventy eighty
or touchdown within the camp setting there, So yeah, that
probably covers kind of the main highlights. I thought it
was kind of a fun rep. You had a Hunter
Wooler opposite Tyler Warren outside the numbers, you know, one
(10:20):
on one starting Rep eleven on eleven, and you know,
Richardson I think correctly identified it right at the start
of the snap.
Speaker 3 (10:27):
I'm sure it's not the first time those two faced
off against one another either.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
Well, yeah, that is a good point. Yeah, and you
know Richardson gave Warren a chance to make a play
fifty to fifty, and that was actually Wooler that that
kind of went up there and knocked the ball away
I thought it was an impressive play by him. So again,
I think, you know, for the most part, would be
special teams, maybe some subpackaged stuff. It doesn't sound like
Spencer Trader will be the kicker. The lead is about
(10:53):
ten percentage points. He got the ball with the kicks yesterday,
so I expect Spencer Trader be the kicker, and I
think we have a leader at center. Unfortunately, Danny Pinther
has been a little banged up, so you know, I'm
sure a lot of people thought Tanner Borderlini would be
the starter, but still they actually had a one day
one one day the other competition. But it looks like
Borderlini now is the guy, and really Eddie, if I
(11:15):
had to label healthy units in camp mm hm, offensive
line has been arguably the healthiest and that goes for
really really starters, even backups. They've been a very healthy group.
Braden Smith has not had a lot of off days no,
so that's I think good news in trying to, you know,
(11:35):
build a little bit of cohesion with that line there.
So unless you've got anything else to add, that pretty
much covers everything from a practice recap.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
I do want to ask you about a couple of players,
just because one of them was a free agent signing
that the Colts were very high on. And I know,
kV you're primarily focused on the quarterback competition and the
offense just because that's what you know, people want to
hear about, people want to read about it up. But
your impression so far in Neville Gallimore. I know the
Colts were very very high on him when they signed
(12:08):
him in the offseason, and I didn't know if you
have seen him or noticed him in all during camp.
Speaker 1 (12:14):
He's rotating in. I think he'll be the first interior
guy to come into the game, you know, definitely a
flash or two. You know, we'll see that. Obviously, it
was an area that was an issue for the same
last season defensive tackle reps. You know, j T. Twomlowa
is a guy that rotates in a little bit as well,
interior wise. On the passing down, you know what, what's
(12:35):
the Indy car package? I've kind of thought about that,
Eddie of like, okay, what's your third down pass rush group?
Obviously Latsu and Buckner are gibbons. I assume Quitty pay
again he's missed about the last week. Who's your fourth.
Speaker 3 (12:48):
You would put Quitty in there over Samson Ebicom.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
I think so, But again, you could maybe flip a
coin there, so your fourth could be Epicom. You could
throw three ends out there, or you could go Taekwon Lewis.
You could go Touy Malowau. You know, again a little
more of the Dio Dangbo route. You go Gallimore, Addie Tom,
Yeah he is one as well. Yeah, he's probably a
name that we shouldn't totally right off. He had honestly
(13:14):
a moment or two in the preseason game. So those
are some guys too. I should not one thing on linebacker.
I don't know why, but when you said defense, maybe
take a linebacker, that's where I was going to next, ediot,
sounds like the spot next to Zia Franklin is not
gonna be in every snap. Person. It's not gonna be
EJ Speed playing every snap. It's gonna be a rotation.
Jalen Carlis has lost the starting job and he's been
(13:37):
hurt for a week now. Yeah, so Joe Bachi, Camera,
Groan Austin and Jaki and Carlis those four competing for
whatever the reps look like there, And again, that's a
spot to me. It's like when you go dime, you know,
is that where Wohler comes out of the field as
the dying linebacker, you know, as as a safety. So
(14:02):
we'll just see things differently from an Rouma. But Ana
Roumo expressed yesterday he's not you know, he doesn't look
at that. And you know again Carlis is not him.
That's Gus Bradley. So we have to, I think again,
start training ourselves a little bit more with some of
these there. You know, it was interesting. I caught up
with Jim Bob Cooter. One last thing to note before
we get to the law to thing. I caught up
(14:25):
with Jim Bob Couter after practice yesterday just because I
wanted to ask him about completion percentage in a training camp.
Speaker 3 (14:30):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 1 (14:31):
You know, like we can't really chart yards. It's very difficult.
Speaker 3 (14:34):
You know.
Speaker 1 (14:34):
Again, some sacks they blow dead, some sacks they don't
blow dead. You're obviously not tackling. Nothing is perfect from
a statistical standpoint in training camp, right, So like in Sassine,
I'm like, do you care about training camp completion percentage?
And he basically said, it does matter, but it's not
the end all be all in that you know, you
can kind of artificially pump up that completion percentage just
(14:57):
living in the checkdown world. Yeah, and we want our
guys to do some testing down the field because I'd
have to double check my numbers. I want to say
Richardson's completion percentage, it's not a huge discrepancy, but I
think it's the lowest of his three years in camp. Again,
we're talking like sixty one to sixty two to sixty five,
(15:18):
like all these numbers are generally in the same area.
So I brought that up to him and he's like, yeah,
that cause I said to him, I'm like, you know,
my naked eye says, I feel like Richardson's been a
little bit more accurate underneath, yet the completion percentage number
is lower. He's kind of no on in his head
and was like, I think some of that comes from
he feels a little bit more comfortable in the offense
(15:40):
attempting second ish level throws. Those naturally are going to
have a little bit more incompletion. To him, HM, so
it's the right read, it's correct, and if you hit it,
the yards per attempt number says that was the right decision.
So I think it's just interesting to hear coaches. You know,
yards per attempt you always hear is a great indicator
of quarterback play. Obviously we don't have that in a
(16:02):
training camp setting. It's very difficult to chart yards. I mean,
I guess I really could if I wanted to, but
that would you know, it'd probably be single and not
have a family. So you know, completion percentag is a
number that we go with. It's not gospel, but I
just kind of wanted to share a little bit from
that there from Jim Bob Cooter.
Speaker 3 (16:23):
In conclusion here from the Three Practices recap, what'd you
make of Quentin Nelson's comments about Anthony Richardson and him
having his best camp yet.
Speaker 1 (16:32):
I think Nelson has always been a big Richardson backer. Yeah,
he kind of went out of his way to say
that and then expanded a little bit on that. So yeah,
I I you know, I think there to me, you know,
behind the scenes is obviously one I can't judge on
h Nelson pointed to some of that stuff I would
(16:55):
say on the field. I don't know if I called
his best, but I do think the underneath acuracy has
been better, which again that was an area of concern.
If you would have told me at the start of camp,
I think he's been picked off three times in eleven
on eleven three interceptions and whatever, one hundred and sixty
(17:16):
some pass attempts. That's you can live with that. The
one question I do have is, Man, this cornerback room
has been really biked up. So how much of that
do we have to factor in? You know, early on
in camp, when that corner group was healthy, they were
the ones feasting a bit. And now ever since those
injuries have started to pile up, then it's had different
(17:39):
story there. So that's why I point to Saturday. I
just think Saturday is an important day of like what
happened last Thursday against Baltimore. It's been widely debated, but
Richardson screw up, pissed, Shane backing off, oh yeah, and
like that, and and to boil it down like that's
really the only thing that truly matters. Well, if all
(17:59):
of the sudden the coach is then pissed off again
for a second straight game, h you'd be going against
almost all of your coaching one oh one thought process
to say, yeah, I'm gonna ignore that, to use that
word again, so I do think Saturday matters.
Speaker 3 (18:16):
Now.
Speaker 1 (18:18):
I do think it's a it's an important or I
shouldn't say practice, it's an important.
Speaker 3 (18:22):
Game for me now to kind of transition to the
upcoming week against the Green Bay Packers, do you take
more from the Thursday joint practice where the starters are
out there for Green Bay and even though the sample
size is maybe smaller then you do the Saturday preseason
game where the sample size might be bigger.
Speaker 1 (18:43):
Yeah, it is a good point. I have always been
a little bit more game, you know, like go back
to the third and seven Richardson's almost gets picked off
against Baltimore in a camp practice, though the tackles having
that pocket collapse as much as it did on that
(19:05):
third and seven doesn't get to Richardson's feet, whereas in
a game you can get hit and it can be real,
and so that to me just matters more so. Yeah,
I mean, I think both are important factors. But the
realness of those game settings, particularly with the red jersey,
(19:25):
particularly after you just got you know, you just had
to leave a game early, I think all that matters.
Speaker 4 (19:31):
All right.
Speaker 1 (19:31):
I know we got a good amount of Twitter questions
to get to but right now to lots too. It's
been a great camp for him. We recorded this, I
think during the first week of training camp. Here is
the second year pass Rusher. Welcome back here to Grand Park.
Day two just ended for the Innapolis Colts. It is
hot and our next guest is nodding his head at
that comment.
Speaker 2 (19:49):
Right now. Is this California heat or is this a
different level heat?
Speaker 4 (19:53):
Man?
Speaker 5 (19:53):
It was one hundred over the offseason every day, but
this just feels worse really, Yeah, just the humidity.
Speaker 2 (19:59):
Yeah, you are drenched right now post practice?
Speaker 6 (20:02):
How are you?
Speaker 2 (20:03):
I mean, are you just cold shower?
Speaker 4 (20:05):
What do we shoot? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (20:06):
Cold shower, cold tubs. But shoot, we had a good day,
especially as a defense. So good to get back in
the meeting rooms and you know, critique.
Speaker 4 (20:13):
Some stuff a lot too.
Speaker 7 (20:14):
As you look at the opportunity you have in front
of you with the departure of Dio Dame Bow and
obviously have an opportunity to have more snaps. What's the
mindset coming into this season knowing that you're probably gonna.
Speaker 4 (20:23):
Be expected to do a little bit more.
Speaker 5 (20:24):
Yeah, I mean just that I want to do a
lot more than I did last year. I want to
be able to make plays for my team and teams
when they need me and show up in those moments.
Speaker 2 (20:32):
The biggest challenge of a rookie year was what for you?
Speaker 5 (20:36):
Really just getting accustomed to everything, traveling and all that stuff,
and then just getting used to the play speed honestly.
But I mean over the off season I've been able
to work on some things and get better and feel
a lot, you know, good going into this training camp.
Speaker 1 (20:51):
Louis na Rumo's arrival, he spoke at his opening press conference,
who was very high and you coming out of the draft,
in what ways do you think you kind of fit
what lou wants to do.
Speaker 2 (20:59):
With that dliner.
Speaker 5 (21:00):
Well, I mean I'm athletic type, so you know I
can drop, I can rush, I can play the run,
and really just you know, anything he has to me
as well as the rest of my D line group,
you know we're gonna get it done.
Speaker 6 (21:10):
Do you see that Trey Hendrickson position in sensey or
is it a.
Speaker 2 (21:12):
Little different for what you will be asked to do?
Speaker 5 (21:14):
You think here I see in a similar way, and
just in terms of being able to use all of
us in our skills and attributes and you know, being
able to create you know, one on ones which will
get us home you know a lot, and be able
to work off each other up front.
Speaker 4 (21:28):
So it's dope.
Speaker 7 (21:29):
So I know a lot of your work obviously last
year is trying to figure out how to win your matchup.
But what is it like also in addition to being
more comfortable with the guys next to you and having
that full year under your belt, another training camp getting
underway with some guys. Okay, I know DeForest Buck is
gonna do this or whatever.
Speaker 5 (21:43):
Exactly like I'm able to know who I'm rushing with.
I know, you know what Bucks likes to do, what
Grove likes to do, and you know if I'm on
the other side of quity yourself, so I know how
they play and I can work off of that and
be able to create some openings.
Speaker 4 (21:55):
So I mean, that's excited. It's exciting. So summer for
you was what.
Speaker 6 (21:59):
I know, you probab. There's a lot of time out
with the coach, Ed mcgilverroough.
Speaker 7 (22:02):
I feel like he has all you guys out there,
So what was you know, we got the offensive side,
they did their thing. Did you have a chance to
work with some of your guys out there in California, all.
Speaker 5 (22:10):
Theres cost So I was out there with Quitty Dio,
We're training with Verse, Sheldon Rankings, you know, just being
able to pick you know, some of the some of
their brain and stuff like that, and you know, be
able to you know, up my game, which was just
dope and yeah.
Speaker 7 (22:24):
And then what's it like to Jared Vord Verse obviously
had a great rookie season, and I'm sure you're paying
attention to at least a little bit.
Speaker 6 (22:30):
So what's the mindset.
Speaker 7 (22:31):
When you know, like, Okay, this guy had this season.
I had my season. But we're friends, but I want
to make sure that you know, my name is mentioned
with some of these guys as well.
Speaker 5 (22:39):
I mean exactly, we're all competitive and we all want
to be the best, just like you know, Chop had
a good year, Dallas had a good year.
Speaker 4 (22:44):
So you know, we all fighting.
Speaker 1 (22:46):
Number ninety seven low to Lot two was whether u's
here live at Colts training camp after a hot one
here on day two? If you could take any skill
set from another defensive lineman in your.
Speaker 2 (22:58):
Room, what would you do and who would it be from?
Speaker 4 (23:04):
I would say that's a good one. That's a good question.
Let's see, I would probably take like Quitty's.
Speaker 5 (23:14):
Ability to be able to make a move off his
first one and then the second one and this third
one is just being able to you know, keep rushing. Yeah,
and I've been I've been picking up off of you know,
each one of them. So you know, I'm super blessed
to be a part of the room that I'm in.
Speaker 2 (23:28):
Yeah, A little birdie told us that Shane the other
night threw up the Grover throw in the Minnesota who
Lineman out of the club highlight in there.
Speaker 4 (23:36):
I mean, we love seeing that one. Is that in
the media room going a little bit? Hell yeah, especially
the new guys that came in there, like.
Speaker 7 (23:41):
Dude, So we had a chance to obviously get to
know at least you're defcorted right behind you actually leu
on a room a little bit throughout the spring. What
has it been like from just a mentality standpoint? We
talked about scheme a lot, but from a no nonsense standpoint,
it sounds like he's not afraid to call anybody out.
Speaker 6 (23:58):
So what has that been like for you? Much?
Speaker 7 (24:00):
You appreciate a guy who, no matter your resume, you
gonna get this work.
Speaker 5 (24:04):
I was just gonna say, I appreciate that I mentally,
I mean, dudes that want to get better are going
to take that criticism and going to take that coaching.
And he's someone that brings that to the table with
his you know, his mindset and you know he's not
going to let you know, dudes b s and you
know he demands greatness and on and off the field,
So you know, I respect him a lot and makes
me you don't want to play even harder.
Speaker 7 (24:23):
And I know that secondary got a bunch of juice
added to it with you know, Tavarius Ward and cam
Bine him and we're talking to Moody yesterday and he's
got some confidence about him a lot of confidence about him.
So when he says, hey, you want to go out
there and be a top five defense and Kenny Moore
saying the same thing, what is that like to to,
I guess, build the steps towards that.
Speaker 5 (24:40):
I mean, dudes like that, leaders like that, you know,
we're you know, we're going to follow and they're going
to create that standard and we're going to uphold that
standard and be able to take that onto the field
on Sundays and whatever they we're playing and be able
to go, you know, kick some ass that.
Speaker 1 (24:53):
Is lowed to a lot too. With this year again
live in Westfield. It is Colt's training camp. The best
thing you did this offseason off the field? What was
the best thing you did field? Yeah, hobby, anything I did.
Speaker 4 (25:04):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (25:04):
I did some hikes, you know, on the weekends when
I was in LA and there's some hikes in Sacramento.
So just being able to you know, God nature, you know,
give my mind the rest, you know, be closer to God.
So I mean, I think that was probably the best
thing I've done.
Speaker 1 (25:18):
And I know you haven't called Indie home for a while,
but do you have a favorite restaurant, a favorite spot that.
Speaker 4 (25:24):
You uh uh, there's a Vietnamese spot called Chow that's good.
We're super good.
Speaker 5 (25:29):
I don't know where it's at, door dash it, but
they got a good bond Me sandwich.
Speaker 2 (25:35):
So a bond Me sandwich would taste like.
Speaker 5 (25:37):
What like a like a sandwich just with like staking
it then a bunch of like cucumbers, lettuce, and then
their on like you know, Vietnamese sauce and stuff like that.
Speaker 4 (25:45):
It's for us.
Speaker 1 (25:45):
So well, you're talking to the palette of a couple
of third graders here, Dino nuggets here.
Speaker 4 (25:50):
I can't blame that away, judging me.
Speaker 2 (25:55):
Here over over shoulder.
Speaker 1 (25:59):
Honestly, the best thing having kids as I can just
eat their food and I'm just like all that Mac
and jeez, you don't want to eat put it right
in my belly.
Speaker 6 (26:06):
Well, I got one more for you. What's the latest
on your brother?
Speaker 7 (26:09):
I know he had signed earlier this summer, So what
of those conversations has been like with him about just
the transitioning the opportunity try to latch on into the NFL.
Speaker 4 (26:16):
So he's been locked in.
Speaker 5 (26:17):
You know, he's asked me a couple of questions that,
you know, help him put a step ahead. When he
went out to Buffalo early being a facility working out, growing,
you know, trying to get smarter in the in the room.
So you know, he wants to be the best and
I can't. I can't wait for him to go kill
it too.
Speaker 6 (26:32):
And for those listening, uh is it Kalecki? Yeah?
Speaker 7 (26:35):
Yeah, So he walked in when he got drafted. You know,
Laouto brought his family and then he walks in. I'm like, okay,
that's obviously the football player.
Speaker 6 (26:43):
His brother walks in. I'm like, wait a second, this
is the little brother, Like, yeah, exactly, so I.
Speaker 2 (26:48):
Thought we could feel the roster.
Speaker 6 (26:49):
Yeah, I was like, hold on, wait a second.
Speaker 7 (26:51):
So he's got some talent too, And I'm glad you're
you know, giving him a couple of tips and ropes
and love.
Speaker 4 (26:55):
I appreciate that.
Speaker 1 (26:56):
Let's let's end with this YouTube goals individually, what would
be that for you?
Speaker 5 (27:01):
We well, shoot, I want at least more than eight sacks,
and I'm striving for, you know, a sack of game
and you know, just being able to go out there
on the field. And you know what my team am.
I what my team and my teammates demanded me. I
want to be able to go and do that and
fulfill that.
Speaker 1 (27:16):
That is number ninety seven for the Annapolis Cold slot too,
Lot too.
Speaker 2 (27:20):
It is a big second year role coming up for him.
Stay healthy, stay cool, and I.
Speaker 6 (27:24):
Go for sure.
Speaker 4 (27:25):
I appreciate you guys.
Speaker 1 (27:26):
Begging to miss a Lot two. He's got quite the
hair rocking there. And really, again, I think he's been
a little better than Braden Smith in those matchups. So
we'll see if it translates. Certainly it could do wonders
to your football team if you get lots of finishing
off a few more plays this season. So nice camp
for the UCLA product.
Speaker 3 (27:46):
We got a touchdowns worth of Twitter questions. Are you
ready for him? Kab Let's do it? Starting with Jamie
and Thursday's game and Daniel Jones missed Ady Mitchell on
his slant. The safety was lurking. Was it a true
miss or just seeing eighty pull up?
Speaker 1 (28:01):
Yeah, that's Jamie. It's a good question, you know, Eddie,
we talked about Adie Mitchell a little bit Friday after
the game. You know, two receptions on six targets is
not a good ratio if you really want to dissect
the six targets. And I guess the four incompletions off
those six targets, that was the one I had the
(28:22):
biggest worry. On the other three I could kind of accept. Again,
I thought some fifty to fifty flag moments. I thought
some fifty to fifty opportunities just didn't necessarily go his way.
But I want to see more of those chances, Jamie,
mm hmm, like Saturday a week from Saturday against cincinnaety two,
because I do think those are the questionable areas I
(28:45):
have with him of like, is he you know, letting
Michael Pittman Junior walk? If you want to play that
game out, you're losing easily your best contested catch guy
on underneath stuff. I mean you talk about a big body,
Michael Pittman Junior. How good are you in that area?
I mean that's what he exells. Remember Ice in the
game against the Titans.
Speaker 3 (29:04):
And the forty nine ers game, Yeah, in the rain.
Speaker 1 (29:07):
Going going back, but yeah, I'm talking. I mean that
that Titans won. I mean that was a true what's
his name Sneed's all over them and he just makes
a great play physicality wise to is it? So you
know camp is different, and you know it's the old
the Ron Carter at Anderson University not translating the game.
So yeah, it's to me it wasn't as egregious as
(29:32):
two of six looks, but that one was.
Speaker 3 (29:35):
Conroy states, not speaking on the ar injury here, but
with the amount of injuries that Conroy has seen from camp,
is this a problem with the turf that they are
playing on or is this something about the training staff?
Feel like we have been doing this the last few years,
maybe even longer, which leads me to believe there's a
(29:57):
breakdown with the strength and conditioning staff. Thanks keV. Looking
forward to asking questions all season with you.
Speaker 1 (30:04):
Conroy, Thank you, sir, you are always asking great ones.
Eddie the age old injury question, Man, it's the hardest
question to answer.
Speaker 6 (30:16):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (30:16):
Now, keep in mind they practice on grass, they don't
practice on turf.
Speaker 1 (30:21):
Correct, Yeah, I don't know. I feel like I look
around the league and every oh boy Jordan Loves not
going to practice Thursday having a procedure done on his
left thumb. Well, that's a bummer. So is that Malik
Willis music again. Sounds like it ligament issue will return
(30:43):
next week, so that is left non throwing, but nonetheless
he will not practice here coming up. I just look
around the league and feels like everybody's got injuries.
Speaker 4 (30:55):
Man, I don't.
Speaker 1 (30:56):
I'm not gonna make anything more of it than than
it is. I don't. I don't think. I don't know.
Maybe a couple of hamstrings, but you know, it's a
variety of stuff. And yeah, I can't go you know
anything more. I know Rusty Jones, their strength coach, longtime
NFL strength coach, retired I think maybe two years ago
this point, so they brought a new staff here. So yeah,
(31:19):
I can't make anything more of it than.
Speaker 3 (31:21):
That mixed up is casey Could the looming quarterback decision
be an indicator of the temperature of the coach in
GM's seat. Jones is obviously the high floor low ceiling
quote unquote safe option. Feels like they picked Jones if
they think they're secure for the future. Richardson is the
(31:42):
boom or bust, make noise year or you're all fired option.
Speaker 1 (31:48):
Yeah, this gets into the debate of Ballad's words patients
versus Sikens words of consistency. Stikeens words say Jones, ballads
Ord's say Richardson. And it's like it does everyone want
different things now? I always speak from it from one
eye towards the future. That's just kind of how I
(32:09):
look at it in an ideal sense, an ideal world,
one eye towards the future. That answer would also be
the best answer in the present. And that's not always true,
and is it true here this year. So I do
think that's where things can differ a little bit here.
You know, someone brought up to me the other day,
(32:30):
Colt's camp. Isn't it easier to start Someone said it's
easier to start Jones publicly, because if you start Richardson publicly,
as soon as you mention, the season's over, like, well,
it's an interesting pr spin on. You know, once you
go to Daniel Jones, are you just going to twenty
twenty six mock drafts there? But yeah, I would probably
(32:54):
push back on it. If they picked Jones they think
they're secure for the future.
Speaker 3 (32:57):
I don't you know, I would view more that is, hey,
we're trying to win, right, because you feel like he
can operate the offense more consistently, like Shane Stakin has
said than Anthony Richardson.
Speaker 1 (33:10):
And again, I don't think it's a bottom line with
Carl ursa Gordon of like, hey, just because you make
the playoffs, it's a slam dunk. We're all gonna do
the same song and danswers next year. I mean, who
knows all that will We'll play out, so we'll see.
Speaker 3 (33:24):
Old Danner makes a good point here, Kevin. Every time
Anthony Richardson drops back, Old Danner feels like everyone holds
their breath, whether it's going to be a great play,
a bad play, or an injury play. Who even knows
if that feeling goes away? Can't imagine anyone in the
building wants to go through that in twenty twenty six?
Should I be watching Clemson, LSU, and Penn State quarterbacks
(33:46):
this year? Thanks again and love the pod. And now
for references. Clemson's quarterback is Kate Klebnick, LSU's quarterback is
Garret Knutsmeyer, and then Penn State's quarterback is Drew Aller.
You could also probably throw in South Carolina with Leonor's
into that mix as well.
Speaker 1 (34:01):
Oh watch them all, watch yeah, South Carolina, Watch Indiana,
watch Texas. Uh, watch them all? You know, Old Daniel
is Shane Stid can think of that from last Thursday? Again?
Who can I trust? How much? Is that a prevalent
question for Shane? You know, as he points out here,
(34:22):
I mean everyone holds their breath, and defensively, you hold
your breath because you're on, Hey, is this gonna be
the big play? Is this gonna be the all of
a sudden, here comes the firework and you weren't expecting it.
You know, it's a firework on December fourth, not July fourth.
So I do think that that's the dynamic that Richardson brings,
(34:43):
which is as beautiful as it is horrifying, And is
there any sort of element that now you just want
a little safer I don't know if you read the
Mike Sando Quarterback tier, I haven't. On the Athletic they
had some mononymous coaches in there. I think it was
a defensive coordinator that said something to the effect of
(35:05):
I could see Daniel Jones being twenty twenty four Sam Darnold.
Our defense will be better, our run game will be better,
our play caller will be better. I could see Shane
Styken sitting in a room reading that quote and saying, yep,
I agree with that. I'll be a better play caller,
We'll have a better run game, and we think our
defense will be better.
Speaker 3 (35:26):
Now, it's a fascinating aspect. Do you think the run
game would be better if Daniel Jones is there? Because
the way I look at it is like there's the
potential for the run defense to be or the run
offense to be not as good just because if Daniel
Jones is not putting enough pressure down the field, that
means you're bringing those safeties closer to the line of scrimma, right.
Speaker 1 (35:42):
I just mean, I guess the Giants run game last
year versus the Colts run game this year. I think
Taylor is more of a dyamic.
Speaker 3 (35:48):
Runner than Okay, I get what you're saying now.
Speaker 1 (35:50):
Tyrone, Tracy and whoever else is whoa whoa whoa ran
out there. Nothing against the Decatur Central product, thank you,
But we have him on a show. He's a great
interview a couple of weeks ago. But Taylor has certainly
proven himself in this league. So again I could see
and I believe that sandal piece he said, the anonymous
and again he interviews. I guess GM coaches and coordinators,
(36:10):
the overwhelming majority thought Jones would start over Richardson. Now
that is from a very coach centric bubble, NFL bubble,
week to week bubble. Is Shane Styken living in that world?
You know, that's the question that I would have there.
Speaker 3 (36:26):
Do you think he is?
Speaker 1 (36:29):
I'm very torn, clearly. I think I would hope our
audience kind of gets the gist of it, you know,
I prop I don't think it's been as if Richardson
has one more strike against him. I think Thursday was
a big strike. If there's one more strike against him,
then I think it's Jones, but he's got an opportunity
(36:50):
to not create that strike.
Speaker 3 (36:53):
Three questions left. This is from Mark. If Ady Mitchell
comes on this year and flashes showing he'd been and
Alec Pearson, Josh Downs do Alec Pearce and Josh Down things,
I think it's pretty clear that the Colts can let
Michael Pittman walk and extend Alec Pearce to be fair Pittman,
considering the quarterback carousel he's been a part of since
(37:16):
being in Indianapolis, I have a feeling he's going to
look elsewhere to fully maximize his skill set. How comfortable
would you be with the receiving group of Alec Pearce,
Josh Downs, and Anthony Uh wow? I almost called him
Anthony for some Anthony Golds for some reason, Alec Pierce,
Josh Downs, and ad Mitchell. Complimented by Tyler Warren, would
(37:37):
the Colts need to add another piece?
Speaker 1 (37:40):
Yeah, I mean on paper, I think there is some
strong appeal to that.
Speaker 2 (37:47):
Now.
Speaker 1 (37:47):
I think you need to see obviously continued growth in
Mitchell that speaks for itself. Pierce, you would like a
little bit more kind of well, rounded nature. But I
agree with a lot of what Mark is laying out.
I think the Pierce Pittman debate comes down to a
couple things.
Speaker 4 (38:03):
For me.
Speaker 1 (38:04):
What's harder to find is it the peer skill set
or the Pittman skill set? I tend to think it's
a peer skill set. He's also younger, and he is
this back injury going to go away? You know, just
Pittman who plays the game so damn physically. You know,
thirty years we're seeing Terry McLaurin right now. You get
(38:25):
to that thirty number and boh, boy does it get
scary for teams?
Speaker 6 (38:29):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (38:29):
So does that impact you at all? And again I've
probably been more of a I like what Pittman brings
a lot of what he brings, but still either he
got to be a realist and okay, you know, you
go to the grocery. What's easier to find on the
shelf the obscure thing that my wife's told me to find,
or Dorito's that I want to find, Well.
Speaker 3 (38:49):
That obscure thing that Matty Bowen wants you to find.
Speaker 1 (38:52):
Some just stupid, some random olive on the You know
that I've talked to three people at crowgrasking. I heard
of a Google image and and I can't find anything.
I'm like, oh, Dorito's party size two for six dollars,
let's put that.
Speaker 3 (39:06):
In the cart. Would would the leadership aspect of Pittman
be lost for that room? Again, I don't want to
like undermine some of that stuff. He's tough as hell,
he's you know, durable, like you know, all of that
I think are important qualities. I think he sends a
strong message, but sometimes you got to sacrifice. Matt wants
(39:28):
to know what's the over under on what week week?
Riley Leonard starts week eight and a half. I hate it,
but I'm taking the under. That's Matt, not me.
Speaker 1 (39:43):
If I go over, yeah, I'd be stunned. Riley Leonard's
starting in October or September. I I, is this injury related?
Is this pure? Yeah? I know I can't see it.
I think Leonard's had a better last week or so,
but no, not at all. I guess if one bad play,
(40:06):
one dude injury, maybe you would need a third quarter.
You imagine starting three different quarterbacks and by October, I guess.
Speaker 3 (40:12):
That's one game. Imagine if they both went down.
Speaker 1 (40:14):
I guess that'd be the most coolest thing ever, right.
Speaker 3 (40:17):
Yeah, I would that be the only avenue in which
you would think that Riley Leonard gets on the football field.
Speaker 1 (40:21):
Well, you know, you and I have talked with Eddie like,
if you got to the point where Leonard was one
play away, would you go out and get a veteran?
Speaker 3 (40:27):
Right?
Speaker 1 (40:28):
You know? Is that a little bit of that thought process?
Like to me, that's what I think they would do.
But I don't know. Maybe at that point you think yourself, hey,
it's over. Let's see at the six round pick and
strike lightning in a bottle.
Speaker 3 (40:42):
All right, hang through me, Hang with their my, gosh,
I can't talk today, Kevin, hang with me. Good.
Speaker 1 (40:49):
I had a big yawn there, so I was glad
that you were able to talk.
Speaker 3 (40:53):
This is from Jimmy. It's our final question, A little
bit longer one. Jimmy. I know that it's not an
unpopular anymore that Chris Ballard might not be the Michael
Jordan of general managers. But I've noticed this year that
the local and fans sentiment is that this team is
somehow more likely to compete than previous years, which baffles
Jimmy to Jimmy's point. This is like every other Ballard
(41:17):
offseason where there are clear and obvious needs that once again,
once the season has passed, we'll leave us saying, like
every year, what did we expect to happen? To help
me understand how this isn't the exact same, you know what?
Different year we added two good defensive backs. Ballard has
(41:38):
done that before. We still have literally two of the
worst quarterbacks in the league throwing to at least one
of the worst wide receivers in the league. Jonathan Taylor
and Michael Pittman are a best talent and they're another
year older, with Pittman coming off a major back injury,
and for some reason, my computer is acting up. Kevin,
can you finish off the last? Okay, there we go.
(42:00):
Then there's the glaring questions at offensive line, tight end, linebacker,
defensive line, and new defensive coordinator. Help me make sense
of the optimism, because to me, this is another AFC
South third place finish. I have like this pop up
thing over here and I can't get rid of it.
It's stuck on my screen.
Speaker 1 (42:16):
All good, you know, I would I guess I got
several thoughts, but I would push back pretty significantly to
the he's added to defensive backs before. I mean, no,
not at all. I mean of Ward and Bynum's milk
and the same offseason. No, there's nowhere in the eight
(42:38):
year previous that it's been there. You know, when you
lay out and I think we've done this on a
couple of occasions, maybe incrementally, but just to lay it
all out here, how do the Colts get better in
twenty twenty five? Where or how are they better from
twenty twenty four? Okay, defensively buying them plus lou Ana Roumo,
(43:03):
that is the thought that they are better there, all right,
let's push that to the side. They are hoping that
they're better at quarterback by no means a slam dunk,
but that's their hope. And then lastly, I would throw
in there pass catchers. I think we went over this
on last week's pot YEP Tyler Warren's arrival, Pittman's healthier
(43:26):
and Adie Mitchell's growth. Now, where have they taken a
step back? I mean, I really think the only area
that I could see a step back is on the
offensive line, like notable impact area, maybe a little bit
of linebacker.
Speaker 3 (43:42):
Is that just because of the unproven nature of both
those positions.
Speaker 1 (43:46):
Right, and then you know, again what happens if Ryman
or Brainsmith go down. That having a quality swing tackle
can be the difference in saving you at times, you know,
So that would be the other one that I would
point to. So, yeah, I don't think it's like. Look,
(44:07):
I mean I thought I didn't think Chris Bouer deserved
a ninth year. I think I've made that abundantly clear.
But I also can live in a world where not
everything Balor does has to be looked at and this
just uber negative light. No, that's that'd be I'd not
be doing my job, Frankly. My job is to look
at each thing individually and assess it for what it is.
And then you know, obviously big picture off of that,
(44:29):
he has done some things differently this year. We'll see
how that goes. So, you know, in regards to how
the cults are gonna be this season, you know what
Vegas says, seven and a half of the over under Yep, yeah,
that's a that's a good number. I don't know, I'm
probably maybe a hair over.
Speaker 3 (44:50):
Colts are seven and a half Jacks or seven and
a half. I can't remember what Tennessee was at.
Speaker 1 (44:54):
Yeah, i'd guess Tennessee's like five and a half and
Houston's like nine and a half or something. Yeah, i'd
guess over ish, you know, maybe a little bit more
than that, but not much more than that. So yeah, Kevin,
maybe that's a bummer about Jordan Love.
Speaker 3 (45:13):
I know, maybe next week KB, or at least some
point before the season starts, we do over under predictions
on cold twins and then like passing or I don't know,
there's probably no passing cross but I guess like Taylor
and yeah, Mitchell and Warren stuff.
Speaker 1 (45:26):
Well, because you know, we want to have as many
camp stuff to recap two days from two weeks from
today roster cuts. But yeah, next week on the pod,
we'll recap Green Bay course, probably shoot for a Monday
pod and get into we'll lay out kind of what
we're thinking fantasy football wise upcoming. We love to do
the draft the first week of September leading right into
that opening weekend, so we'll do that probably around a
(45:48):
fever game. So Eddie Garrison, who has coveraged tonight at
seven to fifteen. If you're listening to this on Tuesday,
fever and wings. He's got your pre game and your
post game on the eddie. You got anything else?
Speaker 3 (46:02):
Nothing else? Dann you uh, you stole my thunder. I
was gonna ask about the Fantasy Filo League, but I
think we got our solution figured out right.
Speaker 1 (46:08):
I like it. If you got any last minute suggestions,
you know where to find us. He's at a garrison.
I'm Kevin Bow and everybody have a great week. Que
O seven five The Fan has got all your colds coverage.
