Speaker 1 (00:00):
We are back. It is the month of December. Yes,
I guess Monday spot is also December, but it definitely
feels in earnest with the snow here in the Circle
City off the Florida it looks like east amount of
rain in the forecast for this weekend. It'll be Colts
and jag Sunday one o'clock in a massive, massive one
in the AFC South. I'm Kevin Bowing back another edition
(00:21):
of Colt's Corner with myself, Kevin bow and Eddie Garrison
is across the way, Eddie, Good afternoon to you.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Good afternoon, sir. How are you good Man good? Did
the kids enjoy the snow outside? Max Bowing and Rosie Bowing?
Speaker 1 (00:34):
Yes, yeah, yeah, they definitely have. I think I don't know,
maybe some sleds could be in use at some point here.
I don't know if I'm totally ready for the snow
just yet, but.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
It's pretty helpful that you live on the side of
town that you do, because you know, Butler's not too
far and they've got a rest hill there for you guys.
Speaker 1 (00:50):
Correct, So yeah, we'll have to get out in the
bouts and we did do a Max Bowen helmet crawl
mid snow.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
It did not go very well.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
He was he was whinding about as much as I
think a Coults Nation was about the officiating exiting Sunday's game.
So I we'll have to put that out here in
a couple of days. But yeah, looking forward to Sunday.
You know, again, when you've created a record like the
Colts have at eight and four, you earn the right
for big time December January games. Now, if you can
(01:22):
maintain that record, of course, you're playing for a lot,
and maybe the loss isn't as significant if you're playing
for the one seed or something like that, or if
you have a multi game divisional lead, but all that's
out the window. The win and the loss is equally
as important. We'll get into the Colts Kicker news, but
just to throw it out into some numbers.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
Here to lead off the pod.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
Based off the playoff predictor of the New York Times
right now, sixty eight percent to make it win on Sunday,
and that rises to eighty five you lose. It drops
the fifty one. In terms of the AFC South, thirty
four percent currently to win the AFC South a win
on Sunday that would rise to fifty four.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
What that does that list Jacksonville and Houston on the
area as well for AC South odds.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
Percent just do not have Jacksonville in front of me.
Rise to fifty four with a win fourteenth for the loss.
I assume Jacksonville is probably close to you know, probably there,
I don't know, forty ish percent given their schedule the
rest of the way. I think that is influencing some
of these numbers. And then Houston is probably whatever at
twenty ish percent. So all of that to say, the
(02:31):
numerical value also plays into what a critically important game
in a place that obviously is Colts Hell.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
So should we start Kevin giving like standing's updates, like
AAFC South standings updates, who Jacksonville is playing Houston, and
then you know the other teams that are waiting for
the wildcard that the Colts are now in the race with.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
Unfortunately, yeah, yeah, maybe you know, next week we definitely
started the AFC South, But yeah, Houston's got Kansas City
Sunday night. So you know, honestly, all the teams that
the Colts are paying attention to pretty much play each
other this weekend.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
So it's a great slate. So yeah, yeah, Chargers, They've
got the Eagles Monday night football, so that should be
a good game. That's another team that's in the wild
card hunt and Buffalo they happy, right, Cincinnati, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
We'll see about the healthy Justin Herbert, you know in
that Chargers game with the hand injury.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Eddie.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
Let's sart with the kicker news. Blake Groupie man that
I've watched kick a lot of footballs in my life
as a Notre Dame fan. The twenty twenty two season,
he and Brian Mason together in South Bend, so there's
your connection there. He might be the smallest player in
Colt's history, at least the smallest player in quite a while,
at five to seven and a one hundred and fifty
seven pounds. So you know, this time of year, every
(03:45):
kicker that's available has warts. Blake Groupie certainly has some
the why behind you move behind this move obviously the
Brian Mason connection. There's NFL experience. He has been the
Saints kicker for the last three years. He is eighty
six for eighty eight in his career on extra points.
That is a pretty good number from a percentage standpoint.
(04:07):
And he also, I would say, if I'm going to
get into like big time kicker, you know, weeds here,
I would say he's got a slightly longer leg than Badly,
like I do think there will be if they need
to kick north of fifty. He's got a little bit
more there. Not a lot, but he's got a little
bit more there. Now why is he available? Why are
there warts? Well, he was just cut by the Saints
(04:30):
this year, Eddie. He has missed five field goals between
thirty and forty nine yards and the Saints primarily are
playing indoors, so that's alarming.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
That's not ideal.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
You know, really kicked pretty nicely for them in twenty
three and twenty four. This year, the percentages have dipped
on field goals now again extra points. He's perfect, So
that's your give and take that you get with him,
and yeah, Lake Groupie life.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
Here we go.
Speaker 1 (04:59):
This will be the the first time in franchise history
the Colts have had three kickers in a season. Whenever
Blake Groupy attempts a field goal. So kind of crazy
when you think, and that's Baltimore Colts as well. You
got to go back that far, you know, on the
Justin Tucker front, I'm not totally surprised that the Colts
worked him out. I think I said this a few
(05:21):
years back, and I'll guess I'll bring it up again,
and not to act like it's exactly apples to apples,
but I think we largely group these two situations together.
I think if Deshaun Watson had been playing for a
team not in the AFC South, I think the Colts
would have been knocking on that door to trade for him.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
Well, didn't they knock on the door anyway.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
Well, knocking the door and maybe it would have been answered.
I guess it's probably had probably the better way to
put it. That's all those dominoes led to Matt Ryan,
of course, But again I don't think there's just this
moral compass necessarily, but the Colts as an organization or
frankly anybody in the NFL that puts them above really anything.
And you know, with three daughters running the show, I
(06:00):
don't know if you're going to bring the guy into workout.
I think at that point you for the most part,
it's not like you're vetting the sixteen mithage therapist in
the Baltimore area to give their take on it. So
Blake Groupie it is though, And you know, one thing
to put on out about Tucker, you know last year
he was I mean, if you think Matt Gay was
(06:21):
all for the Colts, justin Tucker was ten percent worse.
He's the worst kicker in the league last year thirty
two ranked from a percentage standpoint, So.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
In his last three years he's sixteen of thirty beyond fifty.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
Yeah, so there has definitely been a slow dip to
his really exceptional career before that. And then who knows
from a distraction standpoint, that would obviously bring something. I
always feel this way when we get into Colts kicker talk.
And by the way he shout out to Brian Mason,
I thought he was super candid on Tuesday and just
calling it inexcusable. That's the exact word I would use
(06:56):
to describe three missed extra points in seven weeks. But
also acknowledging, Hey, you aren't shopping top shelf in December
when you're looking for a kicker, and you know, Blake
Groupy might not be overwhelmingly or you know, much better
than Michael Badgley, but at that point with Badgerilye too
I think you have to start worrying about mentally too.
You know, how much does three extra points start impacting
(07:17):
other parts of your game? And you know, I do
think it's a little bit harder to find a kicker
at this time of year than it was five six
years ago because with the practice squad, I mean, Eddie,
there's probably what five to ten teams around the league
that carry two kickers now, And yeah, you know that
I think makes it a little bit more difficult. But
kind of big picture colts kicker. You know, we've talked
(07:38):
about this position so much over the last now three
or four years. It always has confused me why they
didn't just keep Chase McLoughlin. Yeah, you know, you go
back to whatever that was twenty two I think it was,
and they kept hot Rod over McLoughlin, and I just
didn't get that. And then you know, obviously they make
the big splash for Matt Gay and that that didn't
(07:59):
work out. But yeah, the whole McLoughlin thing, I I.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
Don't know, that was always weird to me. I thought
he kicked pretty well here, didn't you have a like
a really bad miss? Was that San Francisco? Is that him?
Like looked bad, like shank bad. Yeah, like to the
tunnel bad. Yeah, that sounds kind of right.
Speaker 1 (08:17):
Yeah again with kickers Man, it's just like almost optically,
you know, numbers are numbers, but like almost optically it
can be bad. You know, you go back and you
watch Badgely's extra point from Sunday. That thing started left
of the upright. Have you ever seen an extra point
start outside of the uprights? Like usually it starts in
the uprights and then the hooks or shanks or whatever.
(08:39):
That thing started left and had to cut back just
to hit the upright And the loudest sound in sports sounds.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
Like that predude drum. Is that just a you know,
like a shank like you're hitting off the t box? Yeah,
that's yeah. He's lucky that young Hoku did his thing.
Speaker 1 (08:53):
Later on Okay Blake Groupie Time, Eddie Garson, I assume
what they'll do is they'll promote them practice squad for
three straight weeks, then make you know, a permanent move
with the fifty three man roster. Right now, they do
have an open roster spot. Could that be Jalen Carlies
At the end of the week, you know, this is
the final week of him being able to practice in
that twenty one day window.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
In despite him being activated, I would assume.
Speaker 1 (09:16):
You know, again, right now they've got fifty two, you know,
that would be the fifty third guy. If not, he's
on IR for the rest of the year, right, I mean,
that would be a totally lost season for him there.
But I know some people are curious about that open
roster spot. That's kind of how I view it.
Speaker 2 (09:33):
Anything else to add in terms of the note, Oh,
Anthony Richardson, do we have an update on the Colts quarterback? Yeah?
I did catch him on TV. They when they were
painting to c J. Stroud, you know, after the game
is over, as the players were going on the field,
shake hands, do you know whatever, kiss babies. They did
catch a side of Anthony Richardson and he was hoodie up,
glasses on.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
Believe, first time he's been on the sidelines since the injury.
I think I'd mentioned on last week's pod or maybe
the week before that. I've seen him in the locker
room over the last couple of weeks, so that is new.
You know, there is an Anthony Richardson update, and that's
because Shane Steken typically says very little when it comes
to this stuff. But basically, you know, I asked him
(10:14):
to say, hey, will he be back this season? I
don't know. We're hopeful for that. He's just resting his
eye right now. He did add a couple of things, though,
he is doing some weight room work, so it's not
like he is totally you know, resting.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
We also don't know what that entails either, like is
he just done like the treadmills right right?
Speaker 1 (10:32):
But that's at least more than he was doing, I
guess is probably the best way to put it.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
He tossed it around the iron.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
Yeah, and then he also added, you know, there is
a a step in the process still to be reached
in terms of full vision. So again, I mean, this
is a significant injury. I think my expressions on this
podcast here in recent weeks, I hope I've come across
(10:59):
decently accurate of I don't expect Anthony Richardson's return eminently.
And Eddie, I said to you the Monday after the
injury occurred, have we seen the last of him in
a Colt's uniform? So basically, don't hold your breath on
a Richardson return here in the month of December.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
That's kind of how I would do it. Yeah. The
other part tooon to like to even you know, kind
of go back to that question a little bit, is if,
depending on how serious it is, like, is there a
team out there that would still be willing to trade
for him?
Speaker 1 (11:24):
Sure, I mean clearing that, you know, passing the physical
and a trade would obviously be something that would be
you know, critical. With that other injury news, We'll see
what the walk through injury report looks like. Usually we
get that at some point here in the podcast. Again,
they're on the Wednesday walk through schedule. Sauce Gardner.
Speaker 2 (11:40):
Oh, yeah, it could be you know glide. Ian Rappaport
put that tweet out. Kevin yes Gara or Tom Pellow's
hero sources you know, said that he's not going on
injury reserve. But I'm pretty sure that the name of
this podcast. You specifically asked that question on Monday, right,
and Shane Stake and said no, that he would not
(12:02):
go on injured reserve.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
I'm usually not twitter petty media guy, so I apologize
for going there.
Speaker 2 (12:09):
That's James Boyd wearing off funny if I've ever seen.
Speaker 1 (12:11):
It, James, I saw the tweet first this morning, and
he alerted me of it, and I think I had
just gone on a big Notre Dame rant. So I
was kind of hot and bothered. I was starting to
sweat a little bit, hot and bothered, and I needed
to get after hot and bothered. I needed to get
after rap Sheet. And usually Schefter is the one I hate.
Schefter is one that totally ripped my work. This was
probably five or six years ago. It just showed up
(12:33):
my time hop the other day during COVID, just totally
ripped something I had written and put it as his own.
Speaker 2 (12:39):
I remember that.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
So rap Sheet I really haven't had any issues with,
but yeah, I had to get after him for that
one there. So basically the Sauce Gardner update is won't
go on ir So of course that would mean four weeks,
and so he should be back at some point. And
you look fine today in the locker room, definitely moving
better than he was Sunday. He was doing a little
Papa shot action in there and look to be in
good spirits. So you know, as you map that out
(13:02):
at Jacksonville Sunday, not gonna play at Seattle a week
from Sunday. I would assume it doesn't play. You know,
you have that Monday night er on the twenty second,
That would be three weeks removed from the injury against
San Francisco. Now you probably should point out then it
turns into a short week. You go Monday night into
the six day short week with Jacksonville. And if you're
(13:24):
ranking these games and most important the rest of the way,
the three AFC South games are one, two, and three, yep.
And then it drops a bit and then you go
to San Francisco and Seattle. Now they're all important, let
me be clear, but you know, I do think you now,
who knows, maybe in two weeks you'll be at a
(13:44):
point where you got to win them all the rest
of the way to win the division or something along
those lines. But that Jacksonville game, that's the one that
I circle on the twenty ninth, you know, that would
be just the home game, not this one on Sunday, correct.
Speaker 2 (13:55):
Correct, correct?
Speaker 1 (13:55):
That would be a little under a month, you know,
is that and who knows, maybe he'll progress enough to
where you get him out there for some snaps against
San Francisco And can you imagine this team tackling Christian McCaffrey.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
Boy, well, Jermaine proud to have another twenty tackle game. Gosh,
I hope. So so there you go.
Speaker 1 (14:15):
That's probably everything from a update. You know, Daniel Jones
basically should be good to go. Sounds like the fall
similar practice planned to last week. He's yet to really
miss any practice time. You know, he was limited for
the walk through. I will say, like one thing I'd
probably pushed back with the cults right now is they
keep on saying, well, there's no limitations with the play
cling well, all right, still us Differently, I would disagree
(14:37):
with that clearly. I think from a outside of the
pocket movement and then when stuff breaks down from a
Daniel Jones scrambling movement. You know, he had six scrambles
in Germany and without those the Falcons win in Germany.
Speaker 2 (14:51):
Mhm. And if you look at he he's especially on
that what third down to nineteen it right? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (14:56):
And third and twenty one he got nineteen, right, I
think that's what it was to set up fourth and two.
You know, he had two in Kansas City and then
he had none last week. So I do think that
element to his game is where the limitations are, So
that probably covers everything from a Colts related standpoint. Maybe
next week we can get into some guys from a
(15:16):
Pro Bowl. Another fan voting, I started on that. Maybe
we'll do that a little bit next week. But unless
you got anything else to add, I'm good to get it.
Speaker 2 (15:26):
In Jacksonville, they suffered some injuries on Sunday and their
win over Tennessee. Obviously, they are already without their top pick,
Travis Hunter, wide receiver slash corner, suffered a knee injury.
He's out for the remainder of the season. Parker Washington,
a guy who had stepped up kind of with his
departure and Brian Thomas Junior not being fully healthy. He
(15:47):
exited the game on Sunday against Tennessee with a hip injury.
Did not return. Walker Little, one of their starting tackles,
left the game on Sunday against Tennessee with a concussion.
Eric Comstead is on the injury report. Obviously, one of
the big players up front in the middle, kind of
like their DeForest Buckner. To kind of put it in
comparison perspective, Trevon Walker also injured. I'm outside of that.
(16:08):
You know the names on you know, the offensive side
of the ball. Probably Trevor Lawrence quarterback having an okay season,
Travis at and kinding having a resurgence year after a
down year a season ago. Bishell Tooton is the guy
they mix in every now and then. This guy the
chase a change of paceback. He's really explosive, can rattle
off some big runs and he's a factor in the
past game as well. For the Jacksonville Jaguars, they just
(16:31):
got Brian Thomas junior back having a very underwhelming season.
Just seems like the connection between him and Lawrences hasn't
been there. Britain Strange has been a good productive player
for them. They're tight end. And then Jacoby Myers had
to break out performance against Tennessee because of the Parker
Washington injury. He was with the Raiders earlier this season.
(16:51):
In their game against Tennessee, he had six catches, ninety
yards and a touchdown. He's scored in consecutive games for Jacksonville.
Speaker 1 (16:59):
And he has missed some time, but he's back. Like
you said, Thomas missed some time, he's back. Travis Hunter
of course out for the year. You know a lot
of similar faces. Defensively, they did make the cornerback trade
back a few weeks ago, and you know it was funny.
I'm watching Liam Cohen's press conference today and he noticed
a bit of a bigger media throng there. So I
don't I've never viewed Jacksonville as some hostile environment, which
(17:22):
is Colts fans even more. You haven't won there in
a decade. This is not Arrowhead or anything like that.
But you know, I do think they obviously have a
ton to play for on Sunday as well, so looking
forward to that. Yeah, I think you laid it out
pretty well. They aren't overly impressive by any means from
an offensive number standpoint. Their run defense is notable. They
(17:43):
have been a top ten unit. But you brought up
the Trayvon Walker injury. That'll be something to keep an
eye on this week. Armstead's availability as well. They both
missed the Tennessee game. They have really reshuffled the old
line and had to do that again on Sunday, and
Liam Cohen's very honest, like, we have to play better
up front, so that should be an area where you
(18:05):
could have an advantage. And weirdly, Parker Washington, largely due
to availability, he's actually their leading receiver from a cat standpoint.
Speaker 2 (18:12):
Yeah, and he's also a punt returner for them as well.
He two returns for a touchdown. I believe he got
banged up.
Speaker 1 (18:18):
So definitely some things to keep an eye on with Jacksonville,
but again, really sound with the run defense, and obviously
when you play Jonathan Taylor and company, that is a huge,
huge storyline it shifts into over Trevor Lawrence. It's kind
of wild, Eddie that Sunday was the first time all
(18:38):
season Trevor Lawrence has had a passer rating over one hundred. Yeah,
Daniel Jones has nine of those games this year. Like,
I don't think you would view Daniel Jones as that
much better of a quarterback than Trevor Lawrence. If he
is even better, I mean, that's probably a debate you
could have, but damn, I mean that's that's a start
(18:59):
contract between those two quarterbacks this season. And you know,
I've always said this about the streak in Jacksonville. The
faces have changed, of course a lot, but there is
one thing that has been very consistent throughout. Their D
line has whipped your O line. I could almost say
that annually, whether it's Kalais Campbell, Yanniy Kinockway, Josh Allen,
(19:22):
and then when he's changed his name to Josh Heines Allen.
I mean, they have just whipped you up front. Turnovers
have also certainly played a part in it. But Lawrence's numbers,
especially over the last few years, are unbelievable against the Colts.
Oh yeah, I think heired to the career average of him.
(19:42):
I mean, you're talking my fantasy football league, Kevin. I
have Drake May he's on the by this week, and
I picked up Trevor Lawrence.
Speaker 2 (19:48):
Yeah, I don't blame you man if it continues.
Speaker 1 (19:50):
I mean it, We're talking like twenty completion percentage points higher,
passer ratings significantly higher when he plays the Colts. So now,
again that's obviously Gus Bradley largely, and this is lu Anarumo,
but still I think that is worth pointing out. And
the Colts defense, I'm just kind of torn on how
to feel about them right now.
Speaker 2 (20:10):
Yep. Like, in one light, I sit here and.
Speaker 1 (20:12):
Say, wait a minute, we've will have three touchdowns in
the last eight quarters.
Speaker 2 (20:18):
That's great.
Speaker 1 (20:20):
But then in the other light, they've played one hundred
and seventy three snaps. Yeah, that is a huge number.
They're not getting off the field timely. Nope, I believe
I added it up Eddie twenty drives, real drives, tack
out the Neil downs Kansas City and Houston. The last
two weeks, nine of the twenty have been double digit plays.
(20:42):
So what happens when that occurs.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
You're not getting stops on third down, You're.
Speaker 1 (20:46):
Not getting stops on the third down, they're flipping the
field and you're limiting your offense's touches. Yeah, you know,
so the complimentary football. Yes, your offense is obviously has.
Speaker 2 (20:55):
Some issues here.
Speaker 1 (20:56):
I don't want to ignore that, but I really think
the field position hurt the Colts big time here.
Speaker 2 (21:02):
And a lot of times. You know, Rigoberto Sangez has
done a stupendous job at you know, pinning the opposing
offense deep and they're just chunking out yards. Yeah. So again,
I know the punt unit wasn't great on Sunday.
Speaker 1 (21:15):
Yeah, certainly Kansas City, they definitely did a good job
and really weren't rewarded for it.
Speaker 2 (21:22):
Eric Mury Eric Murray, by the way, another player to
monitor for Jacksonville last week. He's I think he's their
starting safety. He had his twenty one day practice window
open up a week a week a week ago, and
it sounds like he is trending towards playing this week.
He was on the practice field today, Walker, Little Parker, Washington,
(21:44):
Andrew Wingard were not spotted. Trayvon Walker with that knee issue.
Kevin he was spotted off to the sides, off to
the side with trainers today. Devin Lloyd, Patrick McCarry, and
Antonio Johnson were at practice with non contact jersey.
Speaker 1 (22:00):
So several notable names among that group there. You know,
there's a reason why I'm not going to bring up
the streak until twenty six minutes into the podcast, but
it's hard not to acknowledge it when this game does
pop up on the schedule. There's times I felt like
the Colts have a better chance of winning an Alcatraz
than they do winning in Jacksonville. But I'm reminded of
(22:22):
this every time the game pops up on the schedule,
and I do have a little ounce of optimism here
in a few minutes. Okay, but Eddie, this streak started
in twenty fifteen. At that point, when the Colts traveled
down to Jacksonville to play, they had won sixteen straight
AFC South games.
Speaker 2 (22:43):
Sixteen straight divisional games. Think about that. I mean, that
is amazing.
Speaker 1 (22:50):
And they go down there with Matt Hasselbeck quarterback and
they are leading late first half, and if I remember correctly,
there are some sort of strip sacksis situation just kind
of a chaotic ending to the first half and the
Colts had a lead. I think it was sixteen thirteen,
and next thing you know, Jacksonville wins fifty one to sixteen.
Speaker 2 (23:13):
And that started. Now you want optimism, All streaks end eventually.
Well tell that.
Speaker 1 (23:20):
To Joe Demaggio. Sixteen straight divisional games? Right, that was
week fourteen of the twenty fifteen season. What week are
we in? Sunday fourteen? Week fourteen of the twenty twenty
five seasons? Ten years after it started? Same week?
Speaker 2 (23:43):
Does it end? Is that the you hear that music?
Do you believe in that stuff? Oh? Yeah, you do? Yeah? Like?
Speaker 1 (23:54):
Do believe Jacksonville is a cur like? Do you think that.
Speaker 2 (23:57):
With the ways they have lost? Yes? Absolutely? Do you believe?
Speaker 1 (24:01):
Even though Daniel Jones has probably never even heard of
the streak until someone asked him in the Meat You
Throng on Wednesday.
Speaker 2 (24:07):
And according to Zaia Franklin. None of the stuff that's
happened previously matters.
Speaker 1 (24:11):
Well, again, there are some Colts that have been a
part of that something that haven't. Again, it's amazing. Uh
the streak involves eight different quarterbacks. Anthony Richardson, by the way,
never lost in Jacksonville. Maybe point that out there, Minshew
and Flacco. It's the last two years. The starting quarterback
the last time Colts beat the Jags for Jacksonville, that
(24:31):
is Andrew Lucke of course, of the Colts starting q
be for the Jags and leading rusher for the Jags
Blake Bortles. Can you get but they both went to
the same college.
Speaker 2 (24:41):
Oh so you're saying this quarterback went to Stanford? No, no, no, no, no?
Oh the Russiaville the rusher and the quarterback were they
teammates in college? Uh?
Speaker 1 (24:53):
Boy, I'm gonna say no, no, no, no, no, no, I'm
gonna say no.
Speaker 2 (24:57):
Is it Brackassweiler? No? That would be Texans? Right, Yeah,
that's right.
Speaker 1 (25:03):
The quarterback I think also want to super get a hint?
Speaker 2 (25:05):
Can I get recently? Super? Yeah? I would call this
a blue blood college football program. Blue blood? You saying
blue blood? I don't like him is because you're a
note of d am fan or because of other things. Mmm.
Speaker 1 (25:22):
One Chad Henney under center and the leading rusher positional
change Denard Robinson. Oh wow, how about that blasts in
the past. Yeah, fifty one to sixteen and twenty fifteen.
Then you played in London the next year. Blake Bortles
beat you. Bortles beat you again in seventeen. That was
(25:43):
late in the year, if I remember correctly. Twenty eighteen
is probably the most egregious of them all. That was
six nothing with Cody Kessler starting. They had a million
drives in Jacksonville territory. For some reason, Frank Reich never
decided to kick a field goal and they got stuffed
and stuffed and stuff that was not good at all.
Twenty nineteen was Gardner Minshew blowing you out. That was
(26:03):
Minshew with the Jags. Twenty twenty the only win of
the season for Jacksonville Philip Rivers' first game, the season opener.
The one that probably bothers the Colts the most would
be twenty one. That was playoff Berth on the line.
You get blown out there in week seventeen. I want
to say Lakwan Treadwell had the first touchdown of the game,
and Elser Jacksonville twenty twenty two was oh shit, Matt
(26:25):
Ryan sucks. That was twenty four to nothing in a shutout.
Speaker 2 (26:28):
Whoa, whoa? Did you really need to add that in there?
Speaker 1 (26:32):
Twenty twenty three got rolled and last year was a shootout.
Right Flacco kind of got you back.
Speaker 2 (26:36):
In the game. I got a change the disclaimer now
on YouTube because of that.
Speaker 1 (26:40):
I think it's worth coussing about this three well Cam
Little Hilllefield goal the buzzer right to beat you.
Speaker 2 (26:46):
He did.
Speaker 1 (26:47):
I think so that's all right. Cam Little's got a
leg right, better kicker matchup.
Speaker 2 (26:50):
They've got it right in this one, I would say so.
I would say, so, there you go. That's all I got.
You got anything else? I have Twitter time? Yeah, I
have nothing else to add in to the Jacksonville front.
So let's get into twitter questions Tanful. Then the start
we start with I Helix Kevin. It seems that the
Colts offensive line does an elite job run blocking, but
the pass blocking is just bad. Who are the wink links?
(27:13):
And is it scheme? I think it's a lot less
to do with the fact that. I mean, the old
line hasn't been great pass blocking, but it just seems
like keV almost on every drop back now, defenses are
bringing six to seven guys and so every offensive lineman's
left one on one or there's there's one guy that's
(27:34):
running free.
Speaker 1 (27:35):
Yeah, you know, I I do feel generally, like my
eye test would say this now, it sounds like Notre
Dame here. My eye test would say there has been
more pressure, like pockets have been muddier. It's probably the
better way to put it. Yep, that Daniel Jones had
to operate in. But then you go back and you
look at the numbers for Sunday. He was sacked one
(27:56):
time and hit like four times.
Speaker 2 (27:57):
Mm hmm. Would you have signed up for that can
go minimal movement? He was right, So I'm.
Speaker 1 (28:04):
Like, well, damn, I mean he didn't really get sacked
or hit that that much. You know, I'd say right
side of the line is probably where you've had more issues.
I think you have had some issues at times, just
strictly with free uh free rushers. Johnathan Taylor I think
has had a few breakdowns as well.
Speaker 2 (28:21):
A couple of limes. Yeah, boy, that was that was mean,
what will Anderson that was like, that was like, well,
Anderson was just pushing the sled.
Speaker 1 (28:29):
Oh my gosh, man, that yeah looked like me put
Max Boone on the couch.
Speaker 2 (28:34):
Yeah, that was that was rough.
Speaker 1 (28:35):
So I hear you out, you know, certainly, But I'm
kind of like, damn, I don't you know weak.
Speaker 2 (28:42):
Links is a scheme.
Speaker 1 (28:44):
I'd say a little bits the right side, But like,
I don't think the offensive line is to blame for
this three out of four loosing streak. I think it's
probably multifaceted. And Jacksonville has not been a very good
sacking team this season so and not a great pressure team.
Now they have been good against a run, but not
the other stuff. Q.
Speaker 2 (29:03):
Are we ever going to fix our pass rush? Either
we suck at scouting and evaluating talent and development or both.
And it's been that way for years under Chris Ballard.
Yet it's year number nine. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (29:20):
The most disappointing positional aspect of the Ballad era is
the edge rush.
Speaker 2 (29:25):
I had somebody mention this to me on Jake's show
the other day. I was talking about how, you know,
in the couple of games with Sauce Gardner that you've had.
Just doesn't feel like there have been those quote unquote
coverage sacks like if you go to that Kens City game,
my homes had all day, even when there was good coverage,
(29:47):
Like well, Eddie, he got sacked four times, Like but yeah,
look at the yardage. Four sacks from minus six yards,
Like two of them were technically a sack that went
down for note no loss, one for two and then
you do the math on the rest.
Speaker 1 (30:02):
Yeah, it just does not feel like you create edge
pressure and when.
Speaker 2 (30:08):
You do, they're and when and when they do, it
doesn't feel like they're impactful. No, No, yeah, neither I
feel like you're losing ten yards or you know, it's
on a third down or something like that.
Speaker 1 (30:19):
No, and I don't feel like you know you're getting
the edge pressure. That's like, damn, you should give that
dude to half a sack for it, you know, when
he gets pushed into whatever buckner making a sack in
the interior. I mean, hell, one of your best rushes
from Sunday, arguably your best rush is from Chris Warmly.
It was like ninety six Taven Brian.
Speaker 2 (30:34):
Back had a nice rush again on Sunday.
Speaker 1 (30:38):
Right, I guess best rush and finish of the play. Yeah,
if I'm not mistaken, I think touimlaw was the only
one with edge hurries. Yeah, only pay or Lewis or
Latsu had or Epicon. I have to go back and
double check that, but yeah, it's just, uh, there's.
Speaker 2 (30:54):
Just not enough, not enough.
Speaker 1 (30:56):
And again on paper, this is a clear advantage for
you Sunday and I get to Lawrence has a little
bit more of probably capability than Stroud. But still it
just if there's been so much investments, Q also there,
you know, and it goes back to you know whatever
Basham and Terrey and Bannago. I mean you had you know,
(31:16):
notable draft investments very early in the Ballard tenure and
it's just been you know, Terrey, I guess would be
the other one. I mean there's just been a been
a lot of it and hasn't worked out at all.
Speaker 2 (31:28):
Yeah, tuoim Mola the only one with multiple quarterback hits
against Houston. Another line that I don't think is great,
Wormley had one here Overhead.
Speaker 1 (31:38):
One good lines. I mean Seattle had he Tommy, while
adri head one. Seattle might be the best in San Francisco.
Speaker 2 (31:44):
I always thought on that, yep, especially with Trent Williams
over there on the left side. Three questions left, Garrett,
My parents got me two tickets to the game in
Jacksonville on Sunday as a birthday gift. Have you been
to a game down there? And if so, do you
have any Jacksonville spots for pre or postgame? Thanks to
you and Eddie is always cheers. Get that's Garretts. Happy belated,
(32:08):
Happy birthday, Happy birthday to you boy.
Speaker 1 (32:14):
I mean again, when I'd go, it'd be a quick,
quick in and out story of my life. David Busters, Really,
what do you mean by that? Is where we would
venture to?
Speaker 2 (32:23):
What do you mean by that? Kevin? Huh uh? That
was the closest thing in the hotel. Have you ever
heard Joli Rickson rant about Jacksonville? No, you should ask
him about Kansas City.
Speaker 1 (32:33):
Oh no, you gotta dask about Jacksonville. So Joeli Rickson,
I know all Colts fans, now you know, just an
exemplar or human being. He's got three sons. It'd be
a dream if one of my two daughters could marry
one of the Rickson boys. I just I think that
highly of Joel. I mean that all seriousness. Think he
was a terrific human. This man talks about Jacksonville like
it's a feces. I mean, he just hates the place.
(32:56):
I believe his bitching and moaning this week was it's
to inland. He wants it on the water. Oh upon
a vidra. So, if you've ever watched the tour, not
the Tour Championship, the Players Championship for the PGA Tour,
the TPC sawgrass of the island green that rings the
bell at all.
Speaker 2 (33:12):
Nope, that's a little bit more water based.
Speaker 1 (33:14):
I want to say that Colts may even stay out there,
but yeah, it was always Dave and Busters.
Speaker 2 (33:18):
I'm thinking Saturday night there. I can picture it right now.
Speaker 1 (33:21):
Gosh, you know, it's talk about a awful trip, but hey,
as long as it's not rainy. Garrett good tempts in Florida.
There have you ever been?
Speaker 2 (33:29):
No, I have not. I have family down there in Jacksonville,
though I've never been.
Speaker 1 (33:33):
Yeah, I just never really loved the trip in general.
I mean, obviously it was nice to get out of
this weather, but you know, the atmosphere I thought was
very dull. I mean, I went with Jacksonville was pretty
bad too, I mean lately they've been a little bit
bitter and Jacksone's kind of a weird team. Like two
years ago, at this time, Eddie, they were the one seed.
Speaker 2 (33:52):
Remember they just kind of fell off a cliff. Yep.
Speaker 1 (33:56):
Trying to think who was even that was Doug Peterson,
head coach for that team.
Speaker 2 (33:59):
You know, it's kind of similar to what you said
in and out right quickly. Yeah, yeah, something like that. Yeah.
I don't know what you mean by that though. Yeah,
and we got any other questions, Yeah, we've got two
nice recall from Jamie. If I remember at the beginning
of the season, you said the Colts need to stop
two streaks for this season to be considered successful. Opening
(34:22):
week losses and losing at Jacksonville, I would be heading
to Florida for the game. Do they break the streak
and save their season? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (34:30):
I'm not overly sold on Jacksonville, Adam?
Speaker 2 (34:35):
Is that me and Eddie? Are you sold on them?
At eight and four?
Speaker 1 (34:39):
Like they turn over it like none others part of
the year yep, and then impressive with the Chargers, but
like I mean, miracle survivals over the Raiders and Cardinals.
Speaker 2 (34:53):
So I just I don't know Man, I don't like,
I don't put the race. I don't what the Cardinals
went in the same category because if you just look
at Arizona. Yeah, obviously the Colts struggle with it. Well,
they're competing in every game. If you look at most
of their losses, they're buy a field goal or buy
a touchdown and they have the ball late. They just
can't you know, win it at the end.
Speaker 1 (35:16):
Yeah, I mean, obviously we'll we'll give our picks here
in a few minutes.
Speaker 2 (35:18):
But I just don't like. I think the.
Speaker 1 (35:23):
The team in the AFC South I would probably fear
the most. If I were another AFC playoff team, it's
probably Houston.
Speaker 2 (35:30):
Oh yeah, that defense with those two wrestlers.
Speaker 1 (35:32):
Man, But I mean if they lose Sunday, I mean
that they are well behind the eight ball still just
because they're a game back. Yeah, and you know a
loss on Sunda would obviously you know, create one more there. Like,
I mean, if you're a Colts fan, screw Kansas City.
You got a cheer for him. You aren't in any
boat to be greedy about trying to get the Chiefs
out of the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (35:52):
So yeah, and Houston's defeated the Colts and they've you know,
they split with Jacksonville.
Speaker 1 (35:58):
Yeah, so we'll give our picks here in a few
which she'll probably answer the question more.
Speaker 2 (36:01):
Yeah. Final Twitter questions from Colton, say, Daniel Jones doesn't
resign with Indianapolis's offseason, what is your plan?
Speaker 1 (36:08):
B Well, that hypothetical, I guess I don't see happening again.
You can slap the franchise tag on him if you
would like, I you know, I mean, technically Anthea Richardson
is under contract for a fourth year.
Speaker 2 (36:22):
I don't.
Speaker 1 (36:22):
I haven't even looked at the free agent quarterbacks. I mean,
I think the only way this question becomes realistic, Eddie
is if the season bottom's out and you blow it up.
But wouldn't you have to get in the trade market somehow?
Mac Jones, Oh gosh, that'll make you want to face
plan in the snow. Mac Jones not a free agent,
but he'd be one of those in that you know,
(36:43):
discussion of Davis Mills. I laugh because if I wasn't laughing,
I'd be crying.
Speaker 2 (36:52):
Yeah, I guess, you know.
Speaker 1 (36:56):
Again, the only way I don't think Jones would be
the starter is if some team just first off this
season would have to bottom out.
Speaker 2 (37:04):
Yeah, there's not a free agent quarterback out there that
you can look it like. Yeah, that guy could be
given an opportunity and.
Speaker 1 (37:09):
He'd you know, again, just to entertain Colton's question, they.
Speaker 2 (37:12):
Would literally be Daniel Jones. He'd be the top court.
Speaker 1 (37:14):
Season would have to go. It'd have to be a
horrific finish of the season. They'd probably have to fire
both Ballad and Stiching. That means new regime, and anytime
it's a new regime, no one's safe. Maybe that regime
would look at it. And again I'm just I mean,
I literally just thought of this off on my head,
and maybe that regime looks at it and says, you
know what, we don't have a first round pick for
the next two years. We've got that, We've got that
(37:36):
Anthony Richardson kid. Let's playing for you final Yers rookie deal.
I yeah, I And then I mean, helly, then you
still don't have your first round pick in twenty seven.
That trade was quite the trade. And think about it,
uh Illness Ankle for Kenny Moore Ankle for Taekwon Lewis
(37:58):
calf Or Sauce Gardner hip and knee for Josh Downs.
Those are your dnps from today, gonna walk.
Speaker 2 (38:05):
Through Daniel Jones full, Jalen Carlights full.
Speaker 1 (38:08):
So that's a change from Jones right last week. He
was technically limited on Wednesday.
Speaker 2 (38:14):
Yeah. I thought it was funny how there was that.
You know, James Boyd did a great job capturing, you know,
the struggling Daniel Jones in practice. I forget whatever day
that was, yeah, Thursday, that was Thanksgiving? Yeah, and then
on leaving the table, then on Friday he made notes like, yeah,
he certainly hasn't taken every rep today, and then they
listed him as full. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (38:34):
I know. It's always weird, man. You and I have
had this discussion before. You know, limited can mean one
percent or ninety nine percent.
Speaker 2 (38:41):
Yeah, so there you go. What's your worry there? Downs? Yeah,
for sure, especially because he's got two injuries. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (38:53):
I definitely remember seeing him in the locker room today
and I think he had his jersey on, which usually
indicates you participate during the walk there.
Speaker 2 (39:00):
So even though they listen him as a DNP, Yeah, wow,
isn't this like an estimation of what the practice report
would be? Right? It's not like, yes, walk through participat
I mean walk through Wednesday.
Speaker 1 (39:13):
If you're not able to participate in a walk through,
they could wheelchair you through the walk through, right, could
they not? The cults are favored, right they are. You
want to go first, you know?
Speaker 2 (39:28):
Before we do that, can I ask you one question
that's not towards you know, the NFL or quick Yeah,
how the hell did Diego Pavia go from not being
in contineration for the Heisman at number two? Now?
Speaker 1 (39:38):
I know the odds are really aren't there. The three
quarterbacks are all like plus one fifty to ninety years.
Speaker 2 (39:44):
Yeah, and Pavey is number two. Yeah, I know. I
think SEC country is going to vote for Pavia like widespread.
Speaker 1 (39:49):
Is it because he's got like the Johnny Manzil I
think a little bit of that, And honestly, I think
it's a down year for the Heisman.
Speaker 2 (39:55):
Let me start there. Yep.
Speaker 1 (39:56):
When you compare any of the numbers and if it's
a low scoring Big ten game, then I think you're gonna.
Speaker 2 (40:02):
Get more of that. Yeah. Probably.
Speaker 1 (40:03):
You know, it's just we've had like saying it's like
he's got these two wide outs, and then with with Mendoza,
it's like he's had these Heisman moments, but he's also
had the Heisman moments because he just threw an interception.
You know, like Oregon and Penn State were set up
and Iowa right, all three of them. I think we're
all set up because of fourth quarter interceptions from him
which led to the necessary you know, late drives, which
(40:26):
you know, obviously credit to him. It's great resolve and
definitely shows you something. But it's just not a great
year for the Heisman. I guess the easiest way to
put it, and my brief Notre Dame rant, how the
hell can the committee sit there and say, Alabama beating
one sec win Auburn with an interim coach. If you
watch that game, you would have seen an Auburn team
that was horrific of football almost winning that game. They
(40:49):
had seven drops, eight drops. Maybe how do they let
me mention briefly, Auburn's a lone sec win Arkansas by
one possession. Notre Dame went to Arkansas beat him. My,
so Notre Dame goes out to Stanford. They covered the
spread by halftime.
Speaker 2 (41:05):
Of that game.
Speaker 1 (41:06):
Sam Pittman fired. They got Sam Pittman fired. That was
pre interim head coach of Arkansas. Notre Dame goes out
of Stanford covers by halftime and they drop like and
none of this is discussing head to head, none of that.
Simply the committee told us last night that was why
Alabama climbed because they beat Auburn by seven.
Speaker 2 (41:29):
They showed the resolve to believe I'm back and deliver
after Auburn tied it, they went down and the fourth
and two call.
Speaker 1 (41:37):
I'm like, oh, I'm like, I am not one to
believe SEC bias, but holy Nikes, not look good for
my Irish say least.
Speaker 2 (41:45):
No Texas Tech. Right, yeah, you can't have Buyu winning
that big twelve.
Speaker 1 (41:49):
But then again, then does Miami get next to him?
And then do you go with head to head?
Speaker 2 (41:53):
I mean, at this point, you've had a Notre Dame
over my over Miami for what three straight weeks? Four
straight weeks.
Speaker 1 (41:58):
That's another thing I'd like to gripe about. But I'll
say that for next week. If you had them to
fill it far apart for a month, what has changed.
If you compare their resumes side by side of the
last month, it's very similar. Old teams beat Pittsburgh by
the same amount, held anuder name beat Syracuse by one
hundred and fifty. Yeah, but I cannot afford to get
more gray hair between now on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (42:18):
Yeah, I also can't. I'll say that I can't ignore
the fact I get they played head to head, but
like that was the first start of the j Car's career.
It's prime time. You know, you're the only game on
and you're at Miami, not really the most easiest environments
to play, So last last thing. Totally different teams since
week one. When you lose two games, you're not bowletproof.
So I won't bitch and moan too much on Monday,
I promptly, but Notre Dame has made their own bed.
(42:39):
And that's why I was so mad after the text
A and M game, because I knew full well that
this could be happening. It's one and a half point
you or me, you asked you.
Speaker 1 (42:51):
Twenty seven to twenty three. I think they're banged up
in the trenches, occult, and I think Lawrence last week
was a bit of an anomaly form.
Speaker 2 (42:58):
So you think the all's back on track with those
twenty seven Yeah, and I'm not again Jacksonville definitely from
a As we noted on Monday. The offense it kind
of stabilized there after the first quarter.
Speaker 1 (43:10):
Yeah, you know, and again I'm saying, you know, finish
off an extra driver too. That's probably how I would
view with there. So yeah, I'll go Colts twenty seven
to twenty three.
Speaker 2 (43:20):
I'll go twenty three twenty three. Twenty streak is over.
Are you going Blake Groupie two field goals? No, we're
going with the defensive stop there at the end. Well,
I was trying to figure out how you got the
I've got five field goals in a touchdown with a
two point conversion. He's Edda Garrison. I'm Kevin Bowen.
Speaker 1 (43:38):
We'll chat next week. Colts and Jags. We'll recap it
on Monday. I ever, have a great week, great weekend.
Speaker 2 (43:43):
Talk to them.
