Speaker 1 (00:01):
We are back. It is week sixteen of the NFL season.
Colts in forty nine ers Indiana Nights. I thought I
heard the red panda for the halftime show coming up
on Monday, Adam and Terry on the Anvil. I'm actually
a big fan of these jerseys, and I actually really
love the helmets as well. So, boy, it is such

(00:22):
a critical juncture of the season. We got a ton
to get to on today's podcast. First off, we are
coming to you Thursday afternoon. A little apology there, but
you know, with the Monday night game, granted the first
time the Colts have played Monday night football in three years,
so we aren't really used to this. You push back
everything pretty much a day in the NFL calendar. So
just left the Colts practice field about an hour ago.

(00:44):
Their normal Wednesday through Friday cadence is now Thursday through
Saturday this week. So we'll come out your Tuesday next
week and recapping that one obviously. So, like I said,
a ton to get to. And we are back in
the bullpen. It's that time of year where we tend
to go to the bullpen a lot. Certainly nothing against
Eddie Garrison or Mark Dyton or Chris Presley or Jolly

(01:05):
mauln Arrow or Ross Lovers. But easily this is the
best arm we've got out of the bullpen, and certainly
the best looking, if I must say so myself. Prime
Time very fitting. We have called on Matty Bowen to
try and get the Colts back on track. Mad's good afternoons,
You good afternoon.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
This is Nelly's here too, and this is the first
time she's hearing her dad's radio voice live.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
And she just about jumped out of diaper when she start.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
Yeah, she did have a little startle there. It almost
looked like Philip Rivers, you know, hitting the old logo
at the fifty yard line last week in the Seattle game. Mads,
thank you for the time. This is a big, big
friction point in the cold season. So I think your
presence and your thoughts are needed overall twenty twenty five
seasons so far. What would you say, Well, I mean.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
It's obviously been so fun and then so disappointing, And
you know, I think a lot of people who are
fans just kind of have a pit in their stomach
right now.

Speaker 3 (02:01):
At least that's kind of how I feel.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
So we need to win and but yeah, I mean
it's been it's been a really fun season obviously.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
Yeah, Blake Groupy, I know caught your eye the other
day when that Colt's kicker came out there. One hundred
and forty eight pounds for Blake Groupie. Yeah, you know,
it's like a point guard on the you know, Bishop's
Shatard girls basketball team from back in the day. But nonetheless,
big kick from Groupie and kicking boy. We'll get to
that with the forty nine ers. I think the forty

(02:30):
nine ers have some chinks in the armor. Ten and
four is wildly impressive considering their injuries, and I think
Kyle Shanahan deserves Coach of the Year consideration. But really
so their special teams has just been absurdly good. So
we'll wait for the forty nine ers. Thoughts a lot
to get to quarterback wise, and Mad's let's just start there,

(02:51):
you know. From Afar, I guess should we start Richardson?
Should start Rivers? Where do you want to go first?

Speaker 2 (02:56):
Yeah, I think that people are wondering what in the
world was Anthony Richardson cleared for. I think there's some
confusion there and it's just so crazy. I mean, his
injury overall was such a crazy thing. I remember when
you told me about that, and I was like, he's cursed.
You've got to be kidding me.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
Yeah, that's a really unfortunate way, but probably an accurate
way to put it. Let's start here. You know, when
Eddie and I recorded on Monday, we were waiting to
hear from Shane Steichen, and when he spoke in that
Monday afternoon zoom. You know, I would say, probably the
fifteen ish questions I got asked for him, we're all
centered quarterback related, and you know, for the most part,
I think Shane is very composed in these media settings.

(03:34):
I think he rarely, you know, breaks character or cracks
if you will, in a very demonstrative way. But I
did think one of the last questions it might have
been the last, now that I think about it, I
think Nathan Brown from The Star asked that By the way,
Nathan Brown's wife made a Daniel Tiger birthday cake for
their four year old. Oh my god, no, so good.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
No one loves Daniel Tiger more than you.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
I love Daniel Taiger. I love it and is one
of my favorites out there. And shout out to Max
and the Daniel Tiger episode there. But Nathan asked something
in relation to Riley Leonard, and you know in the
midst of answering that Shane Stykeen utters the phrase and
this is in relation to Philip Rivers. We didn't bring
him here to sit on the bench, I'll say that.

(04:19):
And in Shane Lingo, that to me really stood out.
That's like if anybody thought they were going to Riley Leonard,
if anybody thought they were going to Anthony Richardson anytime soon. No, no, no,
that's a wag of the finger from Shane Stikeen. This
is Philip Rivers football team on Monday night. I fully
expected to be Philip Rivers football team a week from Sunday.
And you know what, We'll see what happens Week eighteen

(04:40):
in Houston. Obviously. Could you imagine if the Colts were
playing for their playoff lives in Houston and it's Philip
Rivers and that game gets flexed a la two years
ago when the exact reverse happened and C. J. Stroud
came to this city and won, And could you you
know full picture here Philip Rivers five years after you
were last in the playoffs and boom, He's got that opportunity. Now,

(05:01):
if you're eliminated, does that bring Anthony Richardson back into
the picture. These are all things that certainly are on
my mind.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
But like, what specifically has he been cleared for Anthony?

Speaker 1 (05:13):
Well, yeah, let's let's get there. I guess just one
final thought. This is Philip Rivers football team, and I
don't expect that to change anytime soon. So let me
start there now. In regards to Richardson, let's go over
the injury. Back on October twelfth, the bar with the
elastic band in the locker room before the game snaps
hits him under the right eye. It fractures his orbital.

(05:35):
The scar was pretty jarring to see up close today.
I mean to see Anthony's scarr still so prevalent right
under that eye. And I think I've described the scene before,
you know on this podcast. I mean it was gruesome.
I mean we are talking blood, significant amounts of blood.
We are talking him in an ambulance leaving the locker room,

(05:56):
leaving Lucas Oil Stadium.

Speaker 3 (05:58):
Have they confirmed that his vision is okay?

Speaker 1 (06:00):
Well? No, well, I guess they've confirmed that it's not okay.

Speaker 3 (06:06):
Ohmed, his visions.

Speaker 1 (06:07):
Yeah, so you know shames, I can use the phrase
today limitations with vision. Oh. From what I have gathered,
this is a he's got some scarring on the eye
and it's causing some impaired vision.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
That could heal at some point, but there are some
questions about that healing, and that healing might not occur
until the calendar reads twenty twenty six. Now, the last
thing I try to do is compare myself to anybody
in a professional sports setting. What I have gathered is
and mads. You obviously see me wear glasses. You know
you know this full well. If I'm playing golf, could

(06:43):
I play golf without my contacts in?

Speaker 3 (06:45):
I don't think.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
That's a good comparison, though. I think you have to
think could you play golf with an eye patch on?
He has one good eye right?

Speaker 1 (06:52):
Well, no, no, no, no no, this is not like he's
blind in one eye. There is some impaired vision in
the other eye. So could you go out there and again,
could you play golf with whatever one contact in or
none in? Yes, it's not ideal. You're squinting for four hours.
Probably you're certainly squinting on the sea box of every
part three, but you could do it. Unfortunately, this isn't

(07:13):
a case where you just pop in a contact or
you do something with his visor. He said today, I'll
wear the same visor that I've always worn. So there
is some sort of impaired vision. Now again, we all
go through life and there's different levels of vision here,
and you're able to function at some level. Obviously, having
great vision as a quarterback is paramount, and you can

(07:34):
insert Anthony Richardson accuracy jokes here. I will choose not to,
but certainly you have questions, and I think that is
a key ingredient to him getting back to practice. How
much is your vision?

Speaker 3 (07:46):
He would be back out there.

Speaker 1 (07:47):
If I have gathered. If it wasn't for vision, he
would be cleared. From an orbital standpoint. Remember there's two
things here, and this is much more about vision than
it is orbital. The bone is healed. This is more
of can you function playing quarterback in the NFL with
whatever vision you are currently dealing with? Got So, I

(08:08):
think that's where we're at with Richardson, and that's what
he's about to find out. You know, if you want
to get technical, I believe that the the vision issues
a little bit more peripheral vision, and it's not from
the blind side, you know, from a right handed quarterback.
This is the right eye, so you know he is
looking in that general direction more so than it would
be you know, from the blind side. But I mean again,

(08:31):
this is a very serious injury. He easily could have
lost his vision in this And I think one thing
we have to keep in mind too, I am not
very familiarized with many quarterbacks dealing with this sort of injury,
particularly vision. You know, people have brought up before Reggie
Miller actually suffered an orbital fracture back in the day.
We've seen guys, you know, in a basketball set and

(08:53):
they just mask it up. But again, this is orbital
plus vision and vision more than orbital. If we're gonna
get technical on it, which that's not what you want.
Bones heel right vision might not, retinas might not. You
know it Just so I think that covers everything Richardson related. Now,
you know, does he get through a week of practice

(09:14):
and does all of a sudden they say, hey, he's
throwing the ball fine, and he's reading coverage is fine.
And you know how many team reps is he getting.
That's a question I have as well. You know, I
think in the NFL setting, Phillip's getting all the starting reps,
Ryley Leonard's getting all the scout team reps are at
least the majority, and then you're sprinkling Anthony n Again,
how much can you really judge here in these practice
settings over the next couple of weeks. I'd assume next week,

(09:36):
for example, they'd only have two practices coming off the
Monday night game, short week going into that Jacksonville game.
So you know, I'll go back to what I said earlier.
I Philip Rivers starting this week. Ryle Leonards the backup
Anthony will not be dressed on Monday. And I have
continued skepticism about him, you know, pushing that one or

(09:56):
two in the depth chart. Now once he is clear,
to my opinion, and maybe the short the yardage package
doesn't need pristine twenty twenty vision, you know, can you
run it on third and one and fourth and one?
Because remember the Colts on encountered that one time in
Seattle and Jonathan Taylor got stuffed and it was a
false start. So for me, that is something that I
think they need to explore, whether it's Riley Leonard's legs,

(10:16):
whether it's Anthony Richardson's legs. You need someone that can move.

Speaker 3 (10:24):
Not Philip.

Speaker 1 (10:25):
He can't move. I mean, if you don't laugh, you're
gonna cry. I know. I said, he's Tim Allen and
Santa Claus. Do you like that or no? Is that
a good analogy? What would how would you just what?

Speaker 3 (10:38):
Well?

Speaker 1 (10:38):
Based off his physique, Well, Tim.

Speaker 3 (10:41):
Allen and Santa Claus Is physique really fluctuates. That's part
of the movie.

Speaker 1 (10:44):
Well, yeah, I'm talking, you know, after he does the
little you know voice inflection with the old gut there
you Philip Rivers in the backyard right now, who's wonning
a foot race?

Speaker 2 (10:53):
Oh gosh, hopefully Philip Rivers. But that would be so
satify won that. But yeah, he I mean, there's just
I had this vision of him sort of fumbling backward,
not fumbling the wrong word, but just sort of stumbling
backwards at one point in one of the play's last game,
and I was just like, I looked at my dad
and I was like, oh my.

Speaker 1 (11:13):
Gosh, Yeah that was sad. Yeah, that was sad. But
all right, shout out to Philip Rivers. Let's transition a
little bit there to the River's side of it. You know,
obviously the big thing for me is just again, how
are you creating chunk plays? Particularly, you know, those plays
of fifteen yards or more. You know, I was crunching
some numbers earlier this week. If you look at the

(11:33):
Colts touchdown drives this season, and I took out all
the drives that started on the plus side of the fifty,
Basically all those turnover drives you know, cam buying them
in in Germany or you know, a lot to tipping
the Mahomes pass up in the air in the Chiefs game.
Basically all the drives that were over fifty yards, every
single touchdown drive but one. I think it was like
thirty five to thirty six, thirty six to thirty seven.

(11:55):
So basically all of them had to play of at
least fifteen yards in it. It is interesting line impossible
in today's NFL to grind out these seventy yard scoring
drives that are four yards here, three yards there, seven
yards there. You got to hit a chunk. Yeah, And ironically,
if you look at Sunday, the one touchdown drive they had,
they hit one of those two chunks. They only had

(12:16):
two of them the whole game season low by far.
One of them was Tyler Warren for seventeen that ended
in Josh Down's touchdown. By the way, do you remember
the Pacer game when you didn't recognize Josh Downs. Yeah,
can you tell that story?

Speaker 2 (12:29):
They were just sitting right behind us. It was Alec
Pearce and Josh Downs. And Alec is just so easy
to like. I just feel like people know what he
looks like. He has like a very unique look to him.
And so I recognized him and I asked you who
he was with, and you were like, are you serious?

Speaker 1 (12:48):
No, you went selfie with Alec Pearce and Josh Downs
like had to get out of the way, like he
was like he was a nobody. That's right. I know
that might have been one of your lower moments.

Speaker 2 (13:00):
It's hard when they always have their helmets on it.
I just feel like, I don't know Alec Pierce just
he just is such a unique looking guy. I just
always know what he looked like. But now I'll never
forget what Josh Towns looks like.

Speaker 1 (13:11):
Gosh, it probably sums up the season Josh Downs has
frankly had. By the way, I did not see Josh
Downs at practice today, so that will be one injury.
I think to keep an eye on moving forward. So again,
how can Rivers create that? You know?

Speaker 2 (13:24):
Is it that you should post that picture on your
Instagram for people who want to see it.

Speaker 1 (13:27):
I don't know. Josh Downen's a good quote in the
locker room. I need to stay on the good side
of him here.

Speaker 3 (13:32):
I think eventually I got one with both of them.

Speaker 1 (13:34):
Yeah, I'm sure Josh downs is really happy about that
over time. Is there anything more in the arm of Rivers?
I just I'm just so skeptical of that. You know,
can you hit more of the downs you know double
moves that obviously he missed on Sunday one of those.
I mean, I feel like a broken record with Pierce,

(13:55):
But you know I've said it for years. Good things
happen when you target him. I would target him every quarter.
I would targeteers every quarter down the field. And let's
say it's four targets, he catches one of the two
and one of the other two goes to a pass
interference penalty and boom, that's a fifty success rate on
a thirty forty yard play. And that's because al Peers
is a special talent. So how do the Colts tap

(14:18):
into that a little bit more? I think those will
be things to watch. So, you know, that's probably everything
Rivers related for me. You know, San Francisco is a
team that you know, we're talking Robert Sala, We're talking
Gus Bradley, We're talking a very vanilla defense. They're the
worst sack team in the NFL. Tennessee gashed him on
the ground last week over six yards per carry. So

(14:38):
there's a lot I think, to like on paper about
the Colts doing something a little bit more. Here the
question becomes with a banged up offensive line, which I
want to get to. You know, how much can you
do with Uncle Phil? Do you think he can throw
the ball more down the field? I? I do.

Speaker 2 (14:55):
I mean there's just this big part of me that
trusts him for whatever reason, and I think it's super
cool that he, you know, is back and challenging himself.

Speaker 1 (15:05):
And there's just okay, now you gotta separate yourself. Are
you talking the movie you're on the couch watching the
movie on Friday night, or are you talking an NFL
football game? Because those are two different things.

Speaker 2 (15:15):
Well, I think everyone here knows that I'm not an
NFL commentator and that I probably leave with my heart
more than my head.

Speaker 1 (15:22):
But I mean, because you gotta win games.

Speaker 2 (15:25):
Yeah, but I think that there's just something about a
person who is seasoned, who can, you know, trust themselves
and not take it too seriously.

Speaker 3 (15:34):
I can't. I feel like it was one of the
who's the Cincinnati.

Speaker 1 (15:37):
Quarterback Joe Burrow?

Speaker 2 (15:38):
Yeah, he said something recently in some press conference like
or nos after a game, you know, we get to
go out there and play a kid's game for our
adult jobs or something, And you know, I think that
that's right, and I don't. I think there's like a
level of taking it seriously but also just having this
confidence and I think that translates to balls being thrown in.

Speaker 3 (16:00):
So we'll see.

Speaker 1 (16:02):
Okay, let's get into a couple other injury items before
we talked forty nine ers. In transition to twitter questions,
we will see about Bernard Ryman. It was I tweeted
out a picture of Ryman today early in practice. By
the time we left practice, whatever was on his elbow
was even bigger. He had some sort of you know,
robo cop looking think he does not look like a
dude that's gonna play football on Monday night. I guess

(16:23):
that's probably how I would say it.

Speaker 3 (16:25):
And you played last week.

Speaker 1 (16:26):
He played last week, got hurt in the game. So
let's talk off as a line for a second. You
could continue to run out the same group you did
to end the game. That was Luke Tnuda left tackle,
filmed in for Ryman, Quentin Nelson at left guard, Tanner
bordolliniate center, and then the right side combination of Matt
Gonzalvez in Jalen Travis. I am curious though, do they

(16:48):
opt for the best five? Now? I say that in
quotes best five, But is this where Dalton Tucker, who
started seven games at right guard for you last year,
could he slide into the starting I know, now that's
a lot of musical chairs, which I think naturally probably
frightened some people. But is that Matt Gonzalez now back

(17:08):
over to right tackle where he started eight games last
year for Braden Smith, And then you'd switch Jalen Travis,
the rookie who didn't do a whole lot of left
tackle in the offseason, but you would put him on
the Rivers blind side. So that I think you're looking
at those two options, and part of me thinks the
musical chairs is a little bit more at play here

(17:29):
and maybe everyone realizes. So just something to keep an
eye on here.

Speaker 3 (17:33):
Why don't people realize how at play the musical chairs is?

Speaker 1 (17:37):
Well? I think the five that ended last week, for
the most part, did a nice job. And I think
the thought is Jalen Travis has drilled a little bit
more at right tackle, keep him there. Gonzaldez has done
the right guard thing all year. Basically, do you replace
one spot which you kind of just you know, collateral damage. Okay,
it's one spot. It might not go very well, but

(17:59):
it's just one versus do you strive for a little
bit more? Hey, we think this is our best five,
but you're moving three people. You know they always say
the offensive line's a fist, you know, it's like, you know,
it's more of that. Hey, we need every As soon
as one cracks, everyone's cracking. So I'll be interested to
see again San Francisco's front is. I mean, this San
Francisco defense, good luck naming people on it. Can you

(18:20):
name anybody on the forty nine ers?

Speaker 3 (18:22):
Well, you know the wag? Do you do know what
WAG stands for?

Speaker 1 (18:27):
No, you don't know what I mean.

Speaker 3 (18:29):
Have you heard it?

Speaker 1 (18:30):
No, this is the lag in a golf swing wag.

Speaker 2 (18:34):
Yeah, no, that's so surprising to me. It's wives and girlfriends.
Oh so, wives and girlfriends of sort of a cloaquial
term for the wives and girlfriends of athletes, of professional athletes.

Speaker 1 (18:44):
All right, tell me more. And so.

Speaker 2 (18:49):
You know the ultimate wag is Taylor Swift. But there's
a really popular wag who is attached to I think
a forty nine ers player. Yeah, Christian McCaffrey. Oh yeah, yeah,
uh he has a famous girlfriend.

Speaker 1 (19:03):
Yes, her name again, Olivia, Yeah, very attractive correct.

Speaker 3 (19:06):
Oh yeah, and they just have they just had a
little baby too.

Speaker 1 (19:09):
Really.

Speaker 3 (19:09):
Yeah, So I know Christian McCaffrey.

Speaker 2 (19:12):
Anybody else I'm the forty nine ers, Yeah no, but
I can name some more wags.

Speaker 1 (19:20):
Now, what's the guy's name who barely is in the NFL,
But you've brought up his wife lately and she just
broke up with them.

Speaker 2 (19:25):
Yeah, Alex Earl. She's really famous. She was just one
dancing with the stars. Yeah, Barrios, right, yeah, she was
attached to Braxton Barrios.

Speaker 3 (19:34):
Who is I think on Houston.

Speaker 1 (19:37):
Any wags for the Colts.

Speaker 2 (19:43):
No, I mean, yes, there are, like they're you're considered
a wag if you're attached to any Oh okay, but no.

Speaker 1 (19:52):
No, any any upper quartile wags. To quote Jim Mercy,
I don't think so, I don't think Mattie Bow and
find her on Instagram Colts wags and you can have
a word with her.

Speaker 3 (20:02):
But yeah, well not many, not many people want to
live in Indianapolis.

Speaker 1 (20:07):
So well, come on now, tell that's a Sauce Gardner
and his significant other.

Speaker 3 (20:12):
True, she's kind of famous, she's kind of a wag.

Speaker 1 (20:14):
Yeah, she's really famous. Right, yeah, yeah, all right, let's
transition forty nine Ers and Colts here coming up on
Monday night again six and a half. The spread here, like,
how good are they?

Speaker 3 (20:27):
Like?

Speaker 1 (20:27):
That is a legit question. Their defense, like I said,
very nondescript, awful stop in the run, awful getting out
of the passer. You know, if you look at their stats,
it's nothing eye popping offensively and defensively. The craziest stat
is special teams. I mean, if you look deep into
the analytics, they are absurdly better than their opponent on

(20:49):
special teams. They have not missed a field goal all
year and their opponents have missed not is that not
just luck? I mean, obviously having a good kicker is something,
but like your opponent missing nine field goals, I mean
that's just let's just luck, right, Yeah, Eddie Pinero is
their kicker. Colts injury report has come out for today.

(21:09):
Oh man, it's long. What are they going this background?
That might be Indiana Knight's thing? Okay, the d NPS
Sauce Gardner, Anthony Gould is still out. Jermaine Pratt personal, okay,
he was wantedn't catch there. Bernard Ryman, of course I
mentioned Josh Down's is also personal. Wow too personal. Hope
everything was good with the Downs family and the Pratt family.

(21:31):
Richardson was limited officially. Where's Buckner? Buckner was full? So
that yeah, so I think Buckner's gonna play wrist injury
for Quentin Nelson. But he was full, so nothing too bad.
They're a mire Abdullah on the injury report. That's gonna
be the first time all year he was full of
the knee. So okay, So your DNPS Down's personal, Pratt personal,

(21:52):
Gould does missed what two in a row? Probably, and
then Sauce Gardner remains out. You know again, tomorrow will
be the big day for Gardner. I just is two
practices enough November thirtieth. It is the last time we
saw him, you know, on the field of that strained calf.
I always felt Jags more than forty nine ers again
short week next week, but that would be something to

(22:14):
keep an eye on. A couple other forty nine ers notes.
We'll see about Ricky Piersoll. Kyle Shanan said he was
not practicing Wednesday, could practice later this week. Hasn't ruled
him out yet, but again they have just been decimated
the injuries. Rock Party, that's their quarterback. Do you know
Rock Perty?

Speaker 3 (22:30):
I totally know who that is.

Speaker 1 (22:31):
How do you know him?

Speaker 2 (22:33):
He's like kind of just in the zeitgeist, like he's
like a pretty devout Christian, right.

Speaker 1 (22:38):
Oh, I really don't know much about him. Yeah, seventh
round pick out. I will say that's about it, And
I think.

Speaker 3 (22:43):
People think he's cute.

Speaker 1 (22:47):
Who is the hottest dude in the NFL? Oh my gosh,
I have no idea it was Travis Kelsey attractive?

Speaker 2 (22:55):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I don't know who the hottest dude
in the NA I would have to think sort of
long and hard about I.

Speaker 1 (23:02):
Got twenty minutes to go here, so I mean people
are listening here. I mean, I don't think you're coming
back on the pod anytime soon here, so I mean
you got to make sure you're able to provide an answer.
Perty Again, He's missed what eight games, seven games something
like that. Kittle missed five. Nick Bosa tears his ACL
in week three. Fred Warner, you know, awful looking injury

(23:23):
in week six. I mean, it is remarkable, the Brandon
Ayuk drama. It is remarkable how banged up they have been,
and yet here they are at ten and four. Again,
the defense very simplistic. It was funny. I was chatting
with an NFL assistant the other night, and you know,

(23:47):
he was mentioning if I was facing Rivers, I'd go
in the drop eight mode. And I think it's interesting
how people will view Rivers now after a week of tape.
He does look a little, you know, and he's always
been this way, but he's a little jittery back there.
It's a little I got to get rid of this ball. Well,
if you're only rushing three, is he naturally going to

(24:07):
be like that? And yet if you have eight now again,
you drop eight in his own I have a feeling
he'll pick you apart. But still I think it'll be
really interesting how a team with some familiarity with them
and Gus Bradley, how they do go about attacking him.
Anything else? Forty nine ers wise, Mads, you've got before

(24:27):
we transition here to Twitter questions. Nope, ready one other
note playoff chances. So I believe if I had this right,
I don't think the Colts can be eliminated from the
playoffs until Week eighteen. And I think I've hinted at
this the last couple of weeks. The Colts are in
a much better playoff situation than I think people realize.

(24:50):
When you see these percentages that they pop up there
a lot of times they are factoring in the Colts situation,
i e. Their third quarterback. You just purely went off record,
and how the opponents schedules look the rest of the way.
I really think the Colts have a chance to make it. Now.
You gotta win two, that's probably the biggest question. You

(25:11):
gotta win two or three, and again, if you really
want to win two of them, those would be the
final two games Jacksonville and Houston. Here and they have one.
I think multiple games in a row. I guess games
in a row should say in the Stike and era
in December January. I think they could be eliminated from
the AFC South this weekend. I believe that would be

(25:31):
a Jacksonville win over Denver, which obviously is no guarantee,
and then the Colts would also lose your cheering interest
for this weekend. You want Cowboys over Chargers, you want
Raiders over Texans, you want Broncos over Jags. You want
Browns over Bills. So you know on paper, Brown's over Bills,

(25:53):
Raiders over time, I mean Raiders over Texas is the
one you want. You want black Hole Unite. You need
the big time cults nation here, So I think that
probably covers everything. We got a big playoff article up
on the website, one of seven fivethan dot com, so
check that out.

Speaker 3 (26:10):
I texted a pod listener, a devout pod listener.

Speaker 1 (26:15):
Also you cared to name dropper?

Speaker 2 (26:19):
Yeah, my sister, and okay about there you go about
the hottest guy in the NFL, because she's just more
plugged into that, and I and I also googled it,
and she and Google said the same thing.

Speaker 3 (26:33):
Which is Jalen Hurts.

Speaker 1 (26:34):
Really yeah, wow, I did not know that is Is
there any wag with mister Hurts.

Speaker 2 (26:40):
I believe he's married, but I don't. I don't know
that she's She's not like famous in her own right.
She also said a lot of people would probably say
justin Herbert and then.

Speaker 1 (26:52):
Oh, when I've seen his significant other, she definitely can
draw some eyes.

Speaker 3 (26:56):
Yeah, and then I also agree with Jimmy Garoppolo. Really yeah,
he just looks hot in this picture.

Speaker 1 (27:07):
I just giggled. Yeah, yeah, he's always been out there,
Jimmy g Matthew Stafford's backup right with with with the
rams h. I think it was a rumor, you know,
maybe the Colts had some interest in him. Now you
you always like matt Ryan, didn't You always felt like
he was attractive?

Speaker 3 (27:22):
Uh? Yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (27:24):
Oh really changed? Well, you saw him play quarterback for
the Colts and then you changed.

Speaker 2 (27:28):
Probably he also just seems kind of old now, although
he's probably is he our age?

Speaker 3 (27:32):
Is he younger than us?

Speaker 1 (27:33):
He's not younger. No, he's not younger. And now he's
got to be close to forty. Yeah, we're getting we
got Twitter questions. Can you pull those up. I know
we got a couple here. Then we'll give a Colts
forty nine ers picks out there here. I think we're
done talking about the attractiveness of the NFL players.

Speaker 2 (27:49):
Okay, that's what you get when you bring me on
the pod. Okay from John? With QB uncertain for next
year and beyond, is it possible that Anthony Richardson gets
the fifth year option as a hedge that one AR
might still develop and two DJ may not recover. How
could you see this problem working out here? I can't

(28:09):
recall a single running capable QB that has come back
and played to prior level year one?

Speaker 1 (28:18):
Can you, well, John? I hear you out. Boy, that's
an expensive hedge. I mean the fifth year option I
want to say, is twenty two million. Till again, just
go over everything with Richardson, He's under contract for next year.
The fifth year option you have to pick up sometime
this offseason. And boy, are you doing that with no
first round pick? I don't. I just can't see the
Colts doing it. And I think the Colts really feel

(28:42):
like which one says the chance to be ready week one?
I do? I mean, I get the Achilles recovery history,
and you know, I get maybe some skepticism there, but
I don't know this Richardson marriage. It seems just like
a just like a junior high relationship. Not only have
the fan base views Richardson, but almost how the colts
field It's like, you know, you just never really know,

(29:07):
and it just seems so volatile and so up and down.
So I don't see it, John, So I'd be surprised
if the fifth year option was was picked up again.
Top five pick, former quarterback. That's expensive. So I'm gonna
say no on that.

Speaker 2 (29:21):
This is something you touched on already a little bit.
This is from Salvador. If Sauce Gardner is not available
again for this forty nine Ers game, who do you think.

Speaker 3 (29:30):
Should be the CB two for the team? Jonathan Edwards
Cameron Mitchell?

Speaker 1 (29:34):
What is CB two?

Speaker 3 (29:36):
Don't ask me questions, you know, I don't know answers.

Speaker 1 (29:38):
Well, I think it's important, you know, anytime we have
the cornerback. I mean you asked me wags earlier. I
think it's fine to ask cornerback to cornerback to.

Speaker 2 (29:47):
Jonathan Edwards Cameron Mitchell. Can they activate Mike Hilton because
I think Jalen Jones will not be keep up the
great work. Soludos from Monterey, Mexico to you and all
your team. And also I missed that John earlier said
thanks again and Mery Christmas.

Speaker 1 (30:01):
A little mexicoll action there.

Speaker 3 (30:04):
You love to see it.

Speaker 1 (30:06):
You've been in Mexico much? Well, we went, Yeah, we
went Jack Lupo's wedding, right mm hmmm.

Speaker 3 (30:12):
And then yeah I went a couple times before that
for work stuff.

Speaker 1 (30:14):
Would you do the would you let your would you
let Rosie Bowen go there for a high school screen break?

Speaker 3 (30:19):
That's a huge conversation.

Speaker 1 (30:21):
But well, for the record, yeah, I'm with you. It
frightens me, honestly, keeps me up and night makes me
think I need a second hair transplant. Boy, that's a
great question, salvad Or. You know, when you look at
the cornerback group. I was really surprised to see how
the snap count played out in Seattle. First off, I
know I've said this before, but why isn't Kenny Moore
just playing every snap like like what? I don't know.

(30:43):
I honestly I probably should ask Leuan Romo that, Like,
I mean, I get he's maybe a better nickel than outside,
But I just think he's a better outside option than
some of these other guys that you just list. It
was I think it was Black Minu at sixty Snaps
Edwards had forty five, and I want to say Mitchell
had a good amount as well, and Jayalen Jones didn't
have that many. And I get Jalen Jones got torched
a couple times in Jacksonville, and I've been more of

(31:03):
a Jalen Jones guy certainly here. But I boy, I
guess if there's good news, San Francisco's wide out core
is not very dynamic. We'll see about pearsall, you know. Obviously,
Nico Collins awaits in week eighteen. You would hope Sauce
Gardner is back for that. Mike Hilton, Yeah, I don't
get the no he's not. I think Daniel Scott they've
opened up his window as safety, but Mike Hilton's still

(31:25):
an injured reserve from Mason.

Speaker 2 (31:29):
I'm sure you're getting a million ar pod questions, but
by not playing him these next three games, it feels
like the organization is telling us they already have Because
if they truly believe there's still something there, why wouldn't
you get him reps right now once he's cleared. At
this point, it's suggest one of two things. One they
genuinely don't think Richardson is an upgrade over a forty

(31:51):
four year old off the street quarterback who physically can't
push the ball more than twenty years twenty yards anymore. Two,
they're actively avoiding the risks of Richardson making one or
two off platform.

Speaker 3 (32:04):
Back foot eighty yard.

Speaker 2 (32:05):
I like place that suck the front office or fan
base back into believing again. To me, the whole thing
gives off major break up with your girlfriend and immediately
blocker numbers so you don't get tempted after a few
beers vibes if you're really done.

Speaker 3 (32:18):
This is exactly how you'd act. Mason has some feelings.

Speaker 1 (32:23):
Yeah, yeah, you like Mason, I can tell right, you
enjoy the expression of feelings, correct. Yeah. The blocking of
a number, I don't know if I've ever resorted that.
Do you think anyone has my number block? Do you
think anyone's ever viewed me in that light?

Speaker 2 (32:36):
I'm sure all of us are blocked by someone.

Speaker 1 (32:41):
Uh. It is interesting how I think Steichen has overall
had this change, and I get you know, injuries that
played into this of like the shift from must create
big plays, must find someone that can do that, do
it on his own, et cetera, et cetera. You know,
that was a general thought with Richardson too. I want
someone that speaks my language. I want someone that I

(33:02):
feel a little bit more in control with. And again,
you sacrifice some of the big plays, but you probably
gain methodical you gain higher floor. Are you more higher floor, higher.

Speaker 3 (33:11):
Ceiling, higher ceiling.

Speaker 1 (33:14):
Yeah, which, again that's the debate right now, is that
the best option with with Rivers? So I you know,
I think I laid out Richard, it's health. Let's start there.
I think there's legitimate questions about again where he's at
from a health standpoint, but I think right here, right now,
Shane is all in on this. I want someone that

(33:37):
you know, can speak when I'm speaking Monday through Saturday
and do it Sunday.

Speaker 3 (33:40):
Well, there was.

Speaker 2 (33:41):
Even a part of that that was said when he
you know, picked Jones for QB one.

Speaker 1 (33:49):
Yeah. No, I I think that is a great point. Yeah, certainly.

Speaker 2 (33:54):
Okay, Garrett, I've told people I don't watch regular TV
shows that much because I watch sports. Sounds like you,
but the last few seasons of Colts football have felt
like a soapbox drama. Is there another team that has
dealt with more events internally to make their franchise feel
like reality TV show more than the Colts Since twenty eighteen,
Whether it be Jeff Saturday, rivers, the QB carousel, or

(34:15):
backward passes from rookie wide receivers, it feels like nothing
is ever normal.

Speaker 3 (34:20):
Thanks and Merry Christmas to you and Eddie.

Speaker 2 (34:22):
I like wonder this too. I mean, I think maybe
I said like that. Sports have come across my desk
more in the last couple of years since I've done
the pod, which is why it's exciting to be back here.
But like, yeah, I agree with Garrett. It feels like
there's always something to talk about to Other people feel

(34:44):
like this if they're fans of their own teams, yeah,
if you're like more in it.

Speaker 1 (34:48):
Yeah, you know. I do feel like when you're in
the bubble. There's a level of it across the NFL,
you know, I think back to I think it was
Listener Sean last week that did send us in the
message of all I want from my fan, all I
want from the teams that I root for is for
them to not embarrass me. And I feel like that's
the only thing the Colts have done for the last decade. Yeah,

(35:10):
and that's obviously jarring. And you know, again we're not
used to it. I mean, Mads, you and I grew
up in this market. You and I are the same age.
Our formative years began at whatever, eight or nine years
old and Peyton Manning was drafted and we were nine. Yeah,
so think about that. I mean, we are only used
to really into our you know, post college years, consistent winning.

(35:32):
I mean two or three seasons that weren't January football,
which is unusual. That is not the norm now since
then again, the Colts are in what I think there's
only like three teams in the NFL that have a
longer playoff drought than the Colts currently, and obviously the
division title drought is you know, well documented. So I
think there's an element of there is some level of

(35:53):
drama everywhere. I do think the Colts probably rank a
little bit more up there than most recently, but I
think some of it is bubble related. Would you rather watch?
I think the NFL is the greatest reality series. Would
you rather watch the NFL? Or watch Mormon Wives.

Speaker 2 (36:11):
Oh gosh, you know, probably Mormon Wives if I'm alone.
But the NFL, if it's like the family's around, there's
like it's very viby. I like having I like having
sports on in the in the background always. But yeah,
I like that that question, Garrett, And if you have kids.

Speaker 3 (36:31):
The only thing that gets me through when I think
about how this big drought is that the law of
averages means that it'll be really fun for our kids
when they start caring about sports.

Speaker 1 (36:43):
What about the kids of the Cleveland Browns or the
New York Jets? Have they always been pernial losers?

Speaker 3 (36:48):
Really?

Speaker 2 (36:48):
Oh gosh, well, I guess that disproves my theory. Okay
from Gary and Craig or Gary slash Craig. If we
don't win this week, what could possibly be the purpose
of playing Rivers after that?

Speaker 1 (37:03):
Yeah, this is a popular question, and Gary Craig both
Cynthi's in. I got several of these. Again, you are
not eliminated this week even with the loss, so that
means you will at least play two of your final
three games without elimination. I don't think they turned to
someone other than Rivers until they're eliminated, and maybe not
even then. As crazy as that sounds, I didn't bring

(37:26):
him here to send them on the bench. Let's go
back to that quote. But having said that, boy, if
Rivers does struggle or there is a lack of just
more of the dinosaur offense, was that a Nelly burp?
Dear Lord, dear Lord, we'll spit up here from Nelly Bowen.

(37:46):
Nelly has seen what one Colts win in her six year,
six weeks.

Speaker 3 (37:50):
Yes, but she's seen a lot of IU wins.

Speaker 1 (37:53):
Yes, yes, Matty Bowen tears in the eyes ten seconds
into the Mendoza Heisman speech the other night. There, you know,
I'm trying to temper my expectations quarterback wise. I would
like to see again some short yardist wrinkles. Let's just
start there. Even if you're going to do the Rivers thing,
I think some short yardist wrinkles is needed, would be

(38:14):
healthy for this offense, would offer a little bit more
of a dynamic element. Frankly, I think when you do
that and you're successful, it brings a little juice to
the football team, like when you I think Richardson did
provide that. Obviously, he had other issues as as as
a quarterback. But like when you're able to pick those
plays up, particularly when you do it with the quarterback,

(38:34):
I think it brings a little life and and and
bring some of that to the to the table. Here.
It looks like we got a few more questions we'll
get to and then we'll give our picks.

Speaker 2 (38:44):
Okay, this is from Jamie another interpersonal question. I'm loving
these questions. Do you believe Shane's friendship with Rivers would
make it impossible to make a change at QB?

Speaker 3 (38:56):
Say, if ar is healthy?

Speaker 1 (38:59):
Yeah, again, friendship is certainly there, but I think it's
an insane belief and he will do what I want,
and I think there's just some some scarness from Anthony Richards.
I asked that question today to Shane. If healthy, will
Anthony be the starter? Shane. Shane got in the hypothetical
mode today. I don't know if that was on the

(39:19):
old talking points, but yeah, he doesn't use that very often.
He's like, I'm not going to get into hypotheticals. But
he then said, right now, Philip is our quarterback. So
you know, had Shane Stiken coached the Commanders and not
the Chargers, would Philip Rivers here, be here, No, I
don't think so. By the way, how wild is it
that Philip Rivers has a one year old son and

(39:43):
a one year old grandson. It's the most wild thing son,
So theoretically son will throw a touchdown past her grandson
one day with grandpa coaching.

Speaker 2 (39:53):
I mean, that's just making generations quickly, switching generations quickly.

Speaker 1 (40:00):
Young, you imagine, and then just keep it rolling. Ten
babies for the river? Do you think they're done? Should
I ask Philip that? Or is that not that?

Speaker 2 (40:07):
People that have that many don't really think about it
as a concept of being done.

Speaker 3 (40:11):
They just kind of keep rolling until nature takes over.

Speaker 1 (40:17):
It's some elite Michael Philips swimming by the old Rivers clan. Okay,
what have we got here from?

Speaker 2 (40:22):
Isaac Ballard always values high character guys. Has that nice
guy element contributed to the constant late season collapses? Maybe
they lack the mental tenacity or grit to get through
a season?

Speaker 1 (40:35):
Goodness, boy man, you got some thoughts that you don't
like the tone of the question.

Speaker 3 (40:40):
No, I just think it's I think it's interesting.

Speaker 1 (40:45):
I've always felt like you need a couple crazies in
a locker room I think it's healthy. I think it's
healthy to have a few of them. Yeah, you have
a lot of them. It's going to be hard to corral.
But I think a little edge, Yeah, a little nuts
is good.

Speaker 3 (40:57):
And we don't have so is Isaac saying we don't
have enough of it?

Speaker 1 (41:00):
Sounds like that. You know, I've always said this about
Ballard in the big high character stress that he has
had here, I have grown to get that. Like, I
think the thought there with the high character individual is
when things get tough, the self motivation will win out. Yeah,
and I do think there's a lot of truth to that.

(41:22):
But you know, I go back to him ranton back
in January. Remember late in that season, any press conference, Hey,
I gotta go get more tough guys. We're not winning
enough games late in the season when it matters. Oh shit,
here we are in December and it's been lost, lost loss. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (41:35):
And I wouldn't say Philip Rivers is a tough guy.

Speaker 1 (41:38):
Well, I think you got to isolate Rivers. The the
Rivers thing is notwithstanding, I mean, you can evaluate the
fifty two other guys a little bit more. You know.
The River's thing was obviously, you know, kind of an
awful situation you.

Speaker 2 (41:51):
Were in and yea, yeah it is Isaac send in
this question if if Rivers is not hired, well another
high it is another like character guy.

Speaker 1 (42:01):
Yes, but again Isaac puts in here collapses plurally. Frankly,
if you want to look at the best December January
the Colts have had under Ballard, it's with Rivers at
quarterback in twenty twenty. I guess you go to twenty
eighteen with luck, but twenty twenty with Rivers you won.
I think it was your final four or five games
and then's great.

Speaker 3 (42:18):
I like that.

Speaker 1 (42:19):
So yeah, again, I think we have to isolate Rivers.
I think it's more of if you look at so
much of this core, they have been together for quite
a while, and the inability to win some of these
late season games has been there. Yeah, you know, I
mentioned this early early on, you know, when the Colts
got this start five and one, six and one, seven
and one, and the question was again, can you sustain it?

(42:43):
Do you see this? You know, going off the rails.
I think this season for the Colts has been another
reminder of a seventeen game NFL grind is a freaking grind. Yeah,
it is. I mean, the Houston Texans started zero and
three and now look at them. Some people would say
that's the team I wouldn't want to play in the
AFC right now. The Jags have won six in a row.

(43:04):
It's just, you know, Houston's won five in a row,
Jacksonville's won six in a row, and the Colts have
lost five to six. It's just, I mean, a seventeen
week grind when you only play one game a week.
It doesn't seem like it's like that, but it truly is,
and it's like a good fortune. The cults are living
it right now.

Speaker 2 (43:21):
Okay, Joel feels crazy to ask this question, But if
we assume Daniel Jones stays a cult and comes back
at some point next season, and Rivers maybe goes two
and two and gets us to the playoffs, do you
bring Rivers back next year to help be a stopgap.
Assuming he goes out there and does not look like
he's forty four years old, obviously he would want to

(43:42):
come back to wild question?

Speaker 3 (43:43):
I know, but we live in wild times. Ain't that
the truth?

Speaker 1 (43:47):
Amen to that, Joel, I really think they believe Daniel
Jones will be ready week one now. Again, how effective
is he? How he looks? I don't know. Would you
want to see Philip Rivers quarterback at for the first
three weeks and go join his high school football team
next year?

Speaker 2 (44:02):
You imagine how many games did Daniel James lose before
he got injured?

Speaker 1 (44:06):
The Colts wore eight and well, technically last week was
the first game without him, right, Okay, you know he
got hurt midway through the Jacksonville game. First half of
the Jacksonville game. Okay, so one or one and a
half is probably the best way to put it.

Speaker 3 (44:18):
One and a half without him? How many was that with?
How many did they lose with him?

Speaker 1 (44:23):
They were eight and five? He was eight and five
as a starter. Yeah, Daniel Jones on the hot meter?
Is there a wag in Daniel Jones's life?

Speaker 2 (44:32):
Not that I'm aware of, But if he's listening, I
set you off, my sister.

Speaker 3 (44:41):
Do you think he listens to the pod?

Speaker 1 (44:44):
What do you think? I think there's a better chance
Nelly becomes the next Katie Leducky than Daniel Jones is
listening to this podcast.

Speaker 3 (44:54):
The face you just gave me, But I think it
depends on what what picture you're looking at mister Johnson.

Speaker 1 (45:02):
Jeez boy boy, that's quite the critique. Okay, Colts forty
nine ers, here we go, coming up Monday night, six
and a half point spread in this one. Again, the
Pearce all injury will be one to watch the rest
of the week. We'll see about Sauce Gardner and that availability. Mads.
You want to go first or you want.

Speaker 2 (45:21):
Me to I'm gonna go with I'm just gonna put
it in the universe. I'm gonna go with Colts.

Speaker 1 (45:26):
WHOA, what did Max pick yet? Max is not picked yet? No,
he's not.

Speaker 3 (45:31):
Gosh, yeah, we do feel behind on stuff.

Speaker 1 (45:33):
But again, it's a Monday game. We got some time.

Speaker 3 (45:35):
Yeah, yeah, I'm gonna go with Colts just because I
want them to win and if they lose, I feel
like Isaac's question is gonna live rent free in my head?

Speaker 1 (45:48):
Okay, any football convicted thoughts on the.

Speaker 3 (45:51):
Game, not really, No, I'm just I mean.

Speaker 1 (45:54):
Not like Jonathan Taylor is gonna break one or Tyler
Warren could be critical in the red zone. I believe
you got a score.

Speaker 3 (46:03):
I I don't have anything.

Speaker 1 (46:06):
Dear lord. There are some people that probably like has
been the worst podcasting in the history of Colt Scorner
with Kevin Bowen.

Speaker 2 (46:13):
Sorry, guys, I'm a little rusty, but I figured, you know,
I'm just gonna shut up now because if I said anything,
it would be not based on anything.

Speaker 1 (46:21):
I'll go twenty three, nineteen forty nine ers. I really
worry about tackling Christian McCaffrey, really really worry about that.
I think I've shared this before, but when McCaffrey and
the Panthers came here for joint practices a handful of
years ago, watching him up close in person at Grand Park,
I've never seen an athlete move like that. The lateral quickness,

(46:44):
the fluidity, the ease at which he catches the football.
I mean that dude is a special, special talent. So
the Colts tackling him, and you know, Party's ability to
extend a little also has me worried. But again, San
Francisco has just lived in from a special team standpoint
so much this season, so uh. I do like the
Colts covering uh. And I think it's such a vital

(47:08):
that you do not play from behind, try to play
from ahead, you know, again, stay on schedule as much
as they were able to do in Seattle and see
what happens. Okay, we'll close to this. Your Super Bowl picks? Who?

Speaker 3 (47:20):
Well, I just want to say.

Speaker 2 (47:21):
To the pod listeners that usually I am right when
it comes to you know, between you and I.

Speaker 3 (47:25):
So that's good news.

Speaker 1 (47:27):
Oh wow, okay, speak for yourself. Boy. It should be
a fun Christmas season in the bow and Householder.

Speaker 3 (47:34):
And then Super Bowl?

Speaker 1 (47:35):
Yeah? Who you got? Take the Colts off the board.

Speaker 2 (47:40):
Oh man, I've not done a good job of following Patriots.

Speaker 3 (47:44):
I guess they're like.

Speaker 1 (47:45):
Oh my pick of the Patriots as someone that grew
up in Indiana. Wow, No, no, I don't want them.
I thought you liked the Bills quarterback.

Speaker 3 (47:53):
Who I'm sorry, I thought you ask them who? I
think it's actually going.

Speaker 1 (47:57):
To be right. I mean, the Bills just beat the
Patriots last week. Okay, the Bills Bills. There you go.
Maddie Bowen first, everybody, we'll talk to you on Tuesday.
Safe travels if you're making the holiday commute. Eddie and
I will be back Tuesday. Probably that'll be the only
one next week as we look ahead to Colts and Jaggs.
Colts Corner with Kevin Bowen and thank you, Matt.

Speaker 3 (48:16):
Thanks for having me. Sorry guys, that was terrible.

Speaker 1 (48:19):
I love you, great work, see you
