Speaker 1 (00:01):
You can do this. I'm gonna be you.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
Want you do my?
Speaker 3 (00:15):
Oh hello there Internet, Welcome back to issue five hundred
(00:40):
and ninety eight of Comic Cast. I'm Michael Carroll alongside
not Jongly. Jongly was gonna be here, but then Bri
got sick. So Brie and Jong are on their way
to the doctor. But that's okay because it actually works
out because we had a special guest plan for this issue.
Is now not just the special guest, but also the
(01:02):
co host for this issue of Comic Cast, a returning
member to the podcast family, Fred of DIRF Designs.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
Fred. How are you, hey, Mike, I'm good man, I'm.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
Good Welcome back to to Comic Casts. It's been a while,
but I'm glad we could catch up. We're we're we're
in full like Comic Palooza preparation.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
Mode right like the comic Ploosa is.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
Just we're recording this on June eleventh, Wednesday, June eleventh,
and it's nine days, so we're we're not far away
from the from the con itself. Uh so we'll be
talking about that. We have some reviews we want to
get to. But let's catch up with you and what's
what you got going on. Obviously, Comic PLUSA is the
big deal right now?
Speaker 4 (01:45):
Yeah, I mean yeah, Like I said, we're we're recording
this nine days out. And you know, every year I
tell myself, I'm gonna give myself more time to prep
and I do, but it's never ever enough, always folding
shirts until like Wednesday night before we set up on Thursday.
(02:05):
But this year, I gave myself a good amount of time.
And while it is insane, it's I've got nearly everything
in line and ready to rock. I just have a
really bad habit. Every year I like to tweak the
booth a little bit more and change some things and
add some things. And every time I think like, okay,
I'm done, you know, spending money on the booth and tweaking,
(02:27):
I'll sit down my buddy who helps me. Inevitably, I'm like,
all right, I need six hundred dollars worth more of
supplies and I'm gonna create three more days of work
for myself. Oh but honestly, I love that kind of stuff, man,
Like I love to tweak stuff. And this year it's
really this year, we're taking the booth to a whole
other level. And I know I say that every year.
(02:50):
But we started from one table with three T shirts
way in the back corner of Artists Alli. Now we're
right in the front of you know, dealer area and
a twenty by ten booth and we blow it out
and turn it to like a full blown you know,
like comic book store basically or T shirt store. So
(03:10):
it's I'm super excited for this year. Man.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
It felt Yeah, it felt like last year's because that's
where we met was last year's Comic Paaloosa, and it
felt like walking into a shop, especially with where y'all
were set up, and how like you said, the booth
was set up, and it was set up in a
way to where it feels like I'm walking into an
actual shop, dirt design shop, right, Lad that.
Speaker 4 (03:32):
That that transfers over, you know, you never really know
people are going to pick up on the vision. So
I'm really glad that you caught onto that. And this
year it'll be a similar kind of shape setup. But
we've really done a lot of really fun tweaks to
the booth to really make it feel like it's almost
(03:52):
like it's not part of Comic Palooza. Like we went
so far as to get a black, a huge twenty
foot by ten blackdrop or back up, just so I
could have my background be a slightly different color than
all of the booths that COmON Palooza. Like that's the
that's the level of silly little details that my brain
goes down to. But and hopefully people pick up on
(04:15):
it without me having proms with them in this interview, right.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
I listened to it. I know what he's doing.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
Yeah, But and are you set up kind of in
the same like is it close to the same area
like you were last year?
Speaker 4 (04:29):
Yeah, well, we'll be literally one booth to the left
of where we were I had. I had my fourteen
twenty four booth in the cart. I was checking out
and somebody's clicking fingers were faster than mine, and as
I hit purchase, it was like, this booth is unavailable,
so I grabbed the one right next to it. So
(04:49):
we're pretty much right in the in the same exact
spot that we're gonna be at, or that we were
last year.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
So no, And then is there anything you don't you know?
Obviously I don't want to boil anything, but is there
anything you want to tease in terms of types of
stuff you'll be you'll have at the booth or anything.
Speaker 4 (05:05):
When when's this gonna air?
Speaker 2 (05:07):
This airs?
Speaker 4 (05:08):
Question?
Speaker 3 (05:09):
This airs Wednesday night on the radio, so tonight on
the radio and on Thursday morning, uh, like five am.
Speaker 4 (05:18):
I mean, because it's not a visual podcast that only
you can see. The shirt I'm currently wearing, which will
be one of.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
The drops, it's dope, by the way. For listeners, it's dope.
Speaker 4 (05:28):
Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you. I'll uh I
can describe it because it's not gonna matter, right, I'm
gonna unveil it at some point, either probably Thursday or
Friday on my Instagram or sometime next week. I literally
have so many new things dropping, more than we've ever
done for for Comic Palooza. I think we've got probably
(05:50):
a total of like seven new drops this year, a
lot with the old favorite stuff. So the shirt I'm
currently wearing, which is like the that's that's the show
stopper for me this year. That's the one that I'm
really I've had this idea in my head for like
three years now. Uh, and I've actually had the art
for almost a year. I've just been kind of waiting
for the perfect time, and because it seems like they're
(06:13):
never ever gonna actually drop a trailer, uh for for
the movie. I was waiting on the trailer and then
I saw the news this a couple of months ago,
that Beyond the Spider Verse was now once again delayed.
So I was like, you know what, let's let's let's
do it for common polus. I've been wanting to kind
of focus on some some more villain and oriented stuff.
(06:35):
So the first big drop is going to be a
for those of y'all spoiler alert if you have not
seen Beyond the Spider Verse.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
Spoiler alert, spoiler alert, spoiler.
Speaker 4 (06:49):
Alert, Hey what are you doing?
Speaker 2 (06:55):
It's been like three years?
Speaker 4 (06:56):
Is incredible. But the stinger at the end of Beyond
the Spider Verse is that, you know, in Universe forty two,
there was no that Spider ended up going to our
universe or his universe, I guess, And so that Miles
becomes the bad guy and becomes the Prowler, although I'm
saving my reservations for if he's gonna be a bad
guy or if he's just gonna be an antagonist at
(07:19):
the beginning, because there's no way that that this Miles
isn't gonna like turn to the good side and our
Miles out. But it's a it's a really great design
done by local comic book artist Stephen Strange. In his
Instagram is Stephen Strange Art, super super talented guy. I
brought him the concept of having Miles versus Miles, which
(07:41):
I'm sure we'll see at the beginning of Beyond the
Spider Verse before they decide to, you know, join part
the forces with the power of friendship. And it's basically,
you know, Prowler Miles attacking our spider Man Miles. And
it's just really gorgeous art, tons of super bright colors.
You know, the Prowler costume is already pretty kind of
(08:03):
loud and bright, and so far I have not seen
anyone make any merch with Prowls or Prowls Miles, Prowler
Mawler maybe right, but yeah, so we've got that. That's
the that's my my like showstopper. That's the shirt I'm
really super excited for and I cannot wait for for
(08:24):
folks to see it. I'm reprinting one of my most
asked for designs, which is the Sinister Siren aka Madeline
Priory aka the Goblin Queen. Really gorgeous artwork that worked
that I came up with last year and it literally
sold out on the website in like fifteen minutes, and
people have been begging me to bring it back for
(08:46):
almost a year now. So while I don't do a
ton of reprints on my you know, non Houston stuff,
I really wanted to bring that one back. And I'm
kind of going with like a Summer of Villains kind
of theme, or mostly villains, because I still love the heroes,
so I'm gonna want to kind of highlight some of
the bad guys and and kind of I've been loosely
calling it here at Durf Headquarters Cruel Summer Baby. That
(09:11):
was the first thing that came to mind. But so
we've got those two villain shirts. Uh, speaking of one
of the greatest villains of all time. I'm doing my
very first solo Darth Vader drop. It was a no brainer.
So Hayden's gonna be there. I was literally talking to
my printer and I was like, oh, I don't know
if he can, and he's like, look, man, he's like
send me the art. He was like, I will get
(09:32):
it done for you in time for Comic Palooza because
it has to be done if Hayden's gonna be there,
and he was right, So I got really really kick
ass art for this shirt. It's a real simple black
and white design with you know, a nice clean Darth
Vader Star Wars logo on it. I'm super excited for
for folks to see that one. That one I'm probably
(09:53):
gonna unveil a little bit later, kind of right before
the con, maybe Wednesday or Thursday. I'm trying not to,
you know, I want to give each each drop their own,
you know, its own.
Speaker 2 (10:03):
Kind of shine, right.
Speaker 4 (10:06):
And then I've also revamped the Attack on Houston shirts,
so I'm using a more more kind of street wear
cut on those, and I've got a kind of newer
version of the tan so it was a little bit
more kind of earth tony, a little bit of a
softer tan rather than kind of like that that deep beige.
And since everybody loved the vintage black versions, those are
(10:28):
back permanently. Now. I'm also dropping a brand new Houston
shirt that's gonna be the Spectacular Screwston shirt. So for
those of you all who have seen the sticker design
and the pen design that I have in Spectacular Screwston
I've twisted it up a little bit because you know,
comics use a lot of red and yellow, and it
(10:49):
was starting to look like most of my stuff was
red and yellow and black, so I switched it up
to the Oilers colorway. So it's a really cool like
baby blue and red logo. So I'm probably actually gonna
be posting those later on today. And then I got
a few new different color waves of some stuff as well.
So the Dope cint Abuse, which is my Ninja turtle shirt.
(11:14):
We're gonna kind of retire the Kelly green for a while,
and I had it printed on this really really gorgeous
like deep olive green and it really just like takes
the colors and the design to a to a whole
other level. So really really doing a lot of a
lot of big stuff this year, and of course we'll
have all the regular staples like the meanwhile in Houston,
the h t X shirts, you know, all that kind
(11:36):
of stuff.
Speaker 2 (11:37):
And to do someone's they're coming back, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (11:39):
And they've been on the they've been on ice for
a little while, but Comic Poaloosa is one of the
one one of the places where folks really asked for
that one.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
The most, so we.
Speaker 4 (11:47):
Brought it back again.
Speaker 3 (11:48):
Do you do you have a drop coming this week
as well. That's gonna be at.
Speaker 4 (11:53):
Actually, uh, it will not be a comic palooza. It's
a pre order. So this one we're gonna unveil it
as on tomorrow at three pm Central, So keep an
eye on my instagram.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (12:04):
There's actually a collab with another another guy in the
kind of bootleg space. It's a really great Uh. You know,
I'm a big fan of X Men Evolution and uh,
you know, we I just we both love a like
cheesy two thousands movie, and so we had this kind
of wild idea to do a an homage to the
two thousand uh Charlie's Angels movie using X Men Evolution characters.
Speaker 2 (12:30):
Oh wo Hevy, Gene.
Speaker 4 (12:31):
Kitty, Pride, and Rogue specifically kind of an homage to
that that first iconic poster. You know, I'm an old man,
so I remember when the poster showed up in my
local movie theater in like nineteen ninety nine. But but
it's it's a really great homage to that like classic
poster with the big flaming a behind them and they're
(12:52):
kind of shadows being cast in but we kind of
took some creative liberties and made a very X men
so that that one we're we're calling Charles's Angels and
so we'll be, uh, the pre order for that will
start tomorrow. Typically we get pre orders out pretty quickly,
so they typically once once the pre order is over,
which is about a week or so, they'll h they'll
(13:14):
typically ship it about two through weeks so and won't
make it in time for Comic Palooza. But folks love
the live drops that I do, but they also hate
having to like only have one day to typically pick
them up. So so we're gonna be slowly moving back
to sprinkling and some pre orders as well. This way, folks,
can you know, get some more wild colors that I
don't typically go for and and have a good amount
(13:37):
of time to pick up stuff. So I'm super excited
about that one.
Speaker 3 (13:40):
So you said that that drops on your Instagram at
three o'clock Thursday, June twelfth, correct, Yes, okay, yeah, where
can people follow you to find those drops times?
Speaker 4 (13:53):
So that's gonna be on Instagram and threads d E
R F D E S I g N S Surf Designs.
That's that's where I'm most.
Speaker 3 (14:01):
Active for the most part, and then website as well,
Deft Designs dot com Perfect and you can.
Speaker 4 (14:07):
Actually purchase stuff through the Instagram store as well, So
if you prefer, you know, to not go to a
website that you've never been to, even though it is
verified and it's done through Shopify and very safe and.
Speaker 2 (14:18):
It's legit, it's legit.
Speaker 4 (14:20):
It's extremely secure. But so you know, spolks sometimes, so
I like to give people as many options as possible
to come and buy my stuff.
Speaker 2 (14:27):
Right, and uh, you're pretty active on threads as well, right.
Speaker 4 (14:32):
Yes, not recently, just because honestly, I've I've done so
much prepping for Comic Palooza. When I'm like super busy,
I tend to not watch a lot of new stuff.
I tend to rely on watching old stuff in the background.
Right now, I'm on my million three watch of Frasier
because it's easy to watch. I've seen it a million times.
(14:52):
I'm not missing any jokes. But but as soon as
common Poloosa is over, I will go back to talking
trash about media that I love.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
Nights.
Speaker 3 (15:01):
Well, go follow Fred at DIRF Designs on Instagram, threads
all the places and go check out his work. We'll
be talking more about it as we get closer to
Comic PLUSA as well. You can also follow me on
social media. I'm at Producer Mike nine to seven five,
Jong is at One Punch And of course, wherever you
get this podcast, if you can leave us rating, review, share,
(15:23):
or subscribe, that would be cool. We really appreciate it.
You can also listen to a version of this podcast
on ESPN ninety seven five and ninety two to five
Wednesday nights at eight p m. Now, of course we're
talking about Comic Palooza, So Johng and I are going
to be out there for Comic Pluza podcasting live from
(15:45):
the show floor Saturday, June twenty first, at three pm
on the podcast Pavilion stage, which I'm not sure where
it's at just yet.
Speaker 2 (15:52):
This year.
Speaker 3 (15:53):
I haven't had a chance to like look at the
map or anything like that, but it's somewhere. Last couple
of years it's been, yeah, Middle Ish area. Usually it's
it's like one of the last things before you get
to where all the celebrity photos and everything's at, I think,
and now I don't know where that's at this year exactly,
yet kind of.
Speaker 4 (16:13):
Altered the I noticed they altered the layout just a
little bit.
Speaker 3 (16:18):
Yeah, so we'll see where it is exactly. But it
will be on the exhibit floor on the podcast pavilion stage.
And as we've talked about a little bit, the thing
we're doing this year is we're not necessarily doing a
topic and talking about a topic for that for that
duration of our podcast time from three to three forty five.
Speaker 2 (16:38):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (16:38):
And of course it's going to be myself, Jong Lee,
Brad Gilmour of Hall of Fame and c W and
what dude does everything, all of the many things with aobs.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
Guy with a thousand jobs and a thousand suits, that's
all I know.
Speaker 4 (16:54):
Yes, and the best damn hare in Houston.
Speaker 3 (16:58):
As a matter of fact. As a matter of fact,
Chalise Williams, who is also on this podcast, who will
be also on the podcast, we were talking about that
just the other day, where the best hair in the business,
Brad Gilboy.
Speaker 4 (17:09):
And I don't know how he does it, man, It's
he must have like sold his soul to some deity
or something, man, because it is it is perfect every
single time. It's it's and it doesn't move, but it
looks so fresh and flexible.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
I don't know how he does it.
Speaker 4 (17:26):
Man, I'm gonna have to I'm gonna have to like
try that secret out of his hand.
Speaker 3 (17:29):
That's that that man has a skill that I just
can't learn. Like that's why I keep my hair short,
Like I just can't. There's just no way I can
keep up with that. But Brad's going to be there
with Jody Us as well as as I mentioned, Chalise
Williams of Real Movie Jesse the Incredible.
Speaker 2 (17:46):
She's awesome. Shout out to her. She just actually got
the home.
Speaker 4 (17:49):
Really been killing it with all the interviews she's been doing.
Oh yeah, like, oh my god, dude, just insane.
Speaker 2 (17:55):
Man, She's she's been killing it.
Speaker 3 (17:57):
She she got a chance to cover the Materialists Press
Junket this past weekend and and got to host a
screening here in Houston Monday night. So shout out to Shelly.
She's killing it out there. Go follow her at Real
Movie Junkie and at Hayeshillly's. But we're gonna be doing
this year at Comic Blues and we're gonna be doing
a live ranking one collective list we'll be creating, uh
(18:22):
where we're ranking the films of the MCU's multiverse saga.
So just the film. So that's Black Widow through Thunderbolts.
And the way I have it envisioned is that you
know what which you know, whatever order we're picking in,
that'll be the list that is determined. So if somebody
picks Spider Man No Way Home at thirteenth, that's where
(18:45):
the film is locked at on our rank. How dare
if that happens, that happens, But like it's gonna be
up to each of us to make selections as the
ranking goes.
Speaker 2 (18:56):
We'll start off at thirteenth.
Speaker 4 (18:57):
And I want you to know that I'm leaving the
bo to come and Heckles.
Speaker 3 (19:04):
I will say there there is I'm I'll save it
for the podcast when we're live there. There is a
to me, there is a correct answer to what film
should be thirteenth, but I'll leave it now.
Speaker 2 (19:15):
But it was it's It's definitely not Spider Man, No
Way Home.
Speaker 3 (19:20):
It's definitely not that that's gonna be in the topic today.
Speaker 2 (19:24):
It's yeah, it's not me.
Speaker 3 (19:25):
But if somebody does something insane and pick something random,
they have to defend it.
Speaker 2 (19:30):
And but that's where it is.
Speaker 3 (19:32):
That's where it's locked at so. Uh that's the idea
for this. It's just something fun and different that we
haven't really done. Democratic. Yeah, in a world that's very
fair and democratic.
Speaker 2 (19:43):
Uh not really.
Speaker 3 (19:46):
But so the idea that I had was, Fred, you're
a neutral third party here, you should determine it. Well, okay, yeah,
it's partially, partially as as as neutral as one can
neutral as what can't be because I you know, I
was like, I could make the order and we're like, oh,
(20:08):
what if Michael gets the first pick and then everyone's
gonna be like, oh, Michael, of course you said it
because it's whatever, how convenient. So I figured Fred, while
you're here, we could just we could just do it
really quick, determine the order.
Speaker 4 (20:20):
Sounds great, man, I've got my my wheel ready to spin.
Speaker 3 (20:23):
So, and like I was telling you beforehand, I think
we work our way up to number one. So we'll
start off with number four. Of course, this is a
random between myself, Brad, Jong and Chilly, so we will
see what happens. But Fred, if you will, who has
the fourth pick?
Speaker 4 (20:41):
We are going with? Let's see, let's see, let's see
the man with the greatest hair in Houston.
Speaker 3 (20:48):
Brad Gilmore is picking fourth for our Comic Blues episode. Okay,
excellent choice. Well say, excellent choice, because it's not me.
Speaker 4 (21:00):
You know what, now that you've said it, you're gonna
end up in first place. I know it. You're gonna
pick number one.
Speaker 2 (21:05):
Said something damned yourself.
Speaker 4 (21:07):
Okay, it's chalise.
Speaker 2 (21:09):
So we have salase number three.
Speaker 4 (21:11):
Okay, okay, all right, we're spinning again. Let's see what
we got here.
Speaker 3 (21:16):
John, Oh my god, I knew, Oh my god, what
did I tell you? All right, well, i'll pick it first.
Speaker 4 (21:24):
Yeah, how can be oh, okay, as the as the
as neutral as possible voice in the room. I promise, y'all.
I spun fairly.
Speaker 3 (21:39):
I just heard us. I was honestly tried to be
like third. I was trying to second, like I wouldn't
try to be fair.
Speaker 4 (21:47):
You have the hardest job, man. You have to pick
the best of the multiverse saga, and it better be
no way home. I will hear you from my booths
and come run you.
Speaker 3 (22:01):
Yeah, I understand. I'll get a lot of flat I understand. Well,
we'll see how it goes. Well, we'll go down this
we'll go down this list. But it's me picking first song,
picking second, shell Least picking third, and Brad picking fourth.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (22:15):
Jong will not totally call Shananigan's but right is what
it is. It happened, it's recorded, like I can't.
Speaker 2 (22:23):
Sorry, John.
Speaker 4 (22:24):
I tried to make it as fair as possible.
Speaker 2 (22:25):
This is what you know.
Speaker 4 (22:27):
Mike slid me a little pola before the podcast.
Speaker 3 (22:30):
You weren't supposed to say radio. Don't say it, but
you should get my cell later. All right, Well, that
there's our determination. There's our order that will be picking
uh for for comic plues or ranking the MCU's multiverse
saga looking forward to when we do that.
Speaker 4 (22:50):
So there are going to be thirteen total picks.
Speaker 3 (22:52):
There are going to be thirteenth total picks once we
get to Like I was doing it because the way
it'll work is like I'll be picking thirteenth Jong pick twelve,
like the thirteenth slot work.
Speaker 2 (23:04):
Yeah, exactly, because.
Speaker 3 (23:05):
I and I was gonna do a snake draft, but
I was like, no, I think it'll be more fair
if we just start over each round.
Speaker 4 (23:11):
Sure, but honestly, it's a lot of movies to defend, right,
So like thirteen movies, and I feel like in a
way you should have like thirteen and a half because
Loki deal, it's the show that deals the most with
multiverse and stuff, and it's the show where they conveniently
killed off King. So I feel like there should be
like a like a like like a like a thirteen
(23:33):
and a half.
Speaker 2 (23:35):
Yeah, there's choice there.
Speaker 3 (23:37):
If Comic PLUSA gave us an hour and a half
of the FRA the last.
Speaker 4 (23:42):
Half hours purely dedicated to.
Speaker 3 (23:43):
Loki season, yeah exactly, we we would, we would eat
that up. Yeah, it would definitely have it be happening.
But but yeah, this is this is the way it's
gonna go. For ranking the Multiverse film Saga at Comic Palooza.
Speaker 2 (23:56):
Can't wait for that again?
Speaker 3 (23:58):
You can join a Saturday, June twenty first at three
pm at the Podcast Pavilion stage. Stay up to date
with Conic Cluza's schedule by downloading the app or check
out their website. You can check out the full schedule,
and of course, if you download the app, you can
kind of build your own schedule, like select different events
to kind of help you remind you of when things
are happening, like a like a panel with Hayden or
(24:19):
a panel with Tomorrow Morrison, ming Na Win, you know,
whoever is helpful.
Speaker 4 (24:23):
Honestly, Like, this is comic Palooza. And I'm not just
saying this because it's my favorite con, but like it
is so well organized and like they really do make
it easy to figure out everything you need to do.
And I will give a small piece of advice if
I can as well.
Speaker 2 (24:39):
Oh yeah, go ahead, use the app because.
Speaker 4 (24:42):
You can look up the different vendors and stuff. I
you know, I'm the when I walk around a con,
I like to you know, I don't like to just
like spend all of my money at once. I like
to kind of wander around, open up a little note
on your phone and write down the booth numbers and
what you were looking at, so you don't forget to
come back to those booths on Because let me tell you,
if I see you walking past my booths and you
(25:04):
said I'm gonna come back for this later and you don't,
I will forget your name, who you are, what you
do for a living, but your face I'll remember, and
I will heckle you from my booth. I'd be like,
I know you're not walking past me because I do
it every year, So do not forget to write down
stuff that you want to buy, whether it's from my
(25:25):
booth or anybody else.
Speaker 3 (25:26):
No, that's that's it's a it's a smart uh strategy
for it because yeah, I know, like usually what I
end up doing is I'll spend maybe the first day
or whatever the case may be. I guess it always
depends on if there's panels or something like that, but
always spend the first time just kind of looking around
seeing all the different vendors, Yeah, checking things.
Speaker 2 (25:45):
Out, and it's all assault.
Speaker 3 (25:47):
It's so much so because you also have the car
show that's happening on usually on like when you walk in,
it's usually on the left side of the of the floor,
and you just there's so many different things that are
happening on the show floor, and it's great to just
kind of walk around, peruse and then do your strategy
of writing down the booth numbers to come back to him,
because that's key. That's it's a key to like because
(26:09):
otherwise you're just walking down each aisle like, oh where
was that booth at?
Speaker 4 (26:12):
Wandering like where is that guy with the stickers?
Speaker 3 (26:14):
You know, because that happened to me, Like I was
like wandering like I forget.
Speaker 4 (26:19):
I literally I give people this advice at my booth
every year, and then I end up doing the same
stupid thing and forgetting to write stuff down because typically,
you know, when when I walk around the con, it's
mostly just to like stretch my legs and and and
move around a little bit other than standing and walking
around my booth. So I have the bad habit of
doing that too, So I always make sure that I
make the note beforehand, whether or not I remember to
(26:41):
use it as a whole other thing.
Speaker 2 (26:43):
I'm on my lunch break right there. There you go
forgive me. So that's as I say.
Speaker 3 (26:50):
Exactly, well again, folks, check us out Comic Clusive. We'll
both be there and come say hi, we'll be there.
You'll for sure be all three days. Yeah, so go
check us out at Comic Pluza, happening June twenty through
the twenty second.
Speaker 2 (27:06):
All right, no more Comic PLUSA.
Speaker 3 (27:09):
Now it's time to get to some reviews because we
both had a chance to watch some things, and I
had a chance to catch up on something we both watched,
Predator Killer of Killers. So we'll get to a spoiler
review here shortly. I do want to quickly talk about
a movie I got a chance to see earlier this week,
and that's How to Train Your Dragon, which drops on Friday,
June thirteenth. Again, we're recording this on Wednesday, June eleventh,
(27:32):
so just a couple of days away from the premiere
of How to Train Your Dragon, the twenty twenty five version,
the live action version. I think we talked about this
briefly before we started recording. Are you a fan of
How to Train Your Dragon? Or did you watch them?
Speaker 4 (27:44):
Man? I am, I've I don't think I've watched whatever
the last one is? Is that three or four? They
surprisingly made a lot of dragon movie three?
Speaker 2 (27:55):
Three was the last one?
Speaker 4 (27:56):
Three?
Speaker 2 (27:56):
Yeah, Now, I don't.
Speaker 4 (27:57):
Think I've seen three. I think it came out a
time where, like, you know, sometimes a movie just like
gets past you, even though no matter how big of
a movie nerd you are, And then you're like, wait,
how the hell have I never seen this movie that
everyone has seen? But the first two are beloved movies,
like and I've seen some criticism from some folks, and
(28:18):
you know, it makes for a funny joke where they're like,
they took this, they took the CGI animated dragons and
they made them real life CI animated dragon. It's like, yes,
that's what I'm here for. Man, I want to see
Toothless look a little different. I want to see him
in the real world flying around, you know, like I'm
(28:40):
I don't. I'm typically not big on the live action remakes.
I think some of them are worthwhile and some of
them are like why did we do this? Looking at
the Lion King and also the prequel to the Lion King,
which I've not seen the prequel the Lion King, to
be fair, and I have some opinions because I know
(29:01):
everybody hates it. I really like the Aladdin live action.
Speaker 2 (29:05):
It was okay, Yeah, it was fine, it was good.
Speaker 4 (29:07):
Enjoyed it.
Speaker 2 (29:08):
Yeah, I enjoyed it too.
Speaker 4 (29:10):
You know, the bar's kind of low for a lot
of the live action stuff. Little Mermaid was fantastic, and
I think that was one that that translated really really
well to the live action stuff. But for for how
to Train Your Dragon like that, that always felt more
cinematic than a lot of the other animated stuff, and
(29:30):
so I think it's it's perfect for live action. So
don't let me down, man, I really hope it was good.
Speaker 3 (29:35):
Well, I'm happy to report. It's very good. It's a
very good movie. Like it's it's inherently. I always enjoyed
How to Train Your Dragon, like you, and so the
twenty ten version I always thought was just a great story.
And yeah, it's twenty ten, it's been fifteen years, but
the third one dropped in twenty nineteen, so it's only
(29:56):
been six years since the last. Yeah, it's not too bad.
But the original one twenty ten, so it's been fifteen years.
But I always thought, just inherently that was just a
good story and absolutely especially when we talk about like
animated movies, animated films, you know, we usually think of
Pixar and Toy Story and all that, but DreamWorks did
(30:17):
a phenomenal job with How to Train Your.
Speaker 4 (30:19):
Dam I mean, and they're kind of the ogs of it, right, Yeah,
so like you know, people kind of forget that, like
you know, dream Works is its own thing, and it's
it's just as they pumped out some stuff that that's
that's just as good as Pixar exactly.
Speaker 3 (30:31):
And I would put How to Train Your Dragon, especially
the first two. The third one I don't really remember
too much. I'd have to go back and watch it.
But the first two.
Speaker 4 (30:39):
Can't you remember what the premise was for the trailer?
Speaker 3 (30:41):
Yeah, I honestly no idea, but zero idea. But this one,
this live action retelling very good. I had like mixed
things about the main actor, Mason TAM's tames is how
you say his name? Who was playing Hiccup, just because
it's that kind of the thought process of he is
(31:02):
supposed to be kind of nerdy, but he's like a
gen z, like you know, good looking is a little.
Speaker 4 (31:09):
Bit different, right, It's it's like the it's like the switch.
It's like the the Peter Parker switched to Andrew Garfield.
We're like, Spider Man is not this cool?
Speaker 2 (31:17):
Yeah, No, spider Man is only cool when he puts
a suit on.
Speaker 4 (31:20):
He's not this cool ter.
Speaker 2 (31:22):
But and so Justin Long does like he was.
Speaker 4 (31:26):
The og like vaguely coolish but still incredibly nerdy guy. Right,
So it's hard to top that performance.
Speaker 3 (31:35):
And and so that was like one concern I had
going into it. And it was partially because I had
seen like interviews with him and stuff like that, and
just how he came across to me. It was like, Oh,
I don't know if he can get the nerdy aspect
of Hiccup, and he won me over by the end
of it. I thought he did a pretty good job
from the from the get go. I think Nico Parker's
(31:56):
to hear. I think Nico Parker is good as Astroid.
I always like Nico Parker and pretty much anything she does,
especially The Last of Us and all that.
Speaker 4 (32:04):
Have yet to see her in anything that she wasn't
really good at it.
Speaker 2 (32:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (32:06):
And then Gerard Butler, I mean he's doing He's The
thing I really enjoyed is he nails the comedic timing
in this. Not that not that I had any doubt,
but I guess.
Speaker 4 (32:17):
He's so funny.
Speaker 2 (32:18):
He's really funny.
Speaker 4 (32:19):
Yeah, naturally funny, and yet he could also be like
incredibly dark and terrifying, you know, like he's he's he's
got way more range than we give him, credible, and.
Speaker 3 (32:29):
He balances what he balances that well as hiccups Dad
in this movie, and obviously he voiced him in the
original version, but this is bringing him to live actions
work different man.
Speaker 4 (32:39):
I mean, lots of lots of folks who do the
move from voice acting a character to live action. It's
a it's a whole other animal. You know what I mean,
you're cause you're there's so much emmoting with your voice
when you're voice acting, and now you've got to And obviously,
you know, Gerard Butler is a very like emotive guy,
you know what I mean. That's why he tends to
play such intense characters. So it was I think it
(33:02):
was really really smart to bring him back, and like
now he's the perfect age for the dad. Like when
he voiced him, he was almost like a little too young,
you know what I mean, But like now that he's
in his in his probably what fifties, Yeah, he's the
perfect age to play that role, you know.
Speaker 2 (33:18):
He Oh yeah, he's him.
Speaker 4 (33:19):
And Russell Crowe have really like they've really leaned into
like the big scary dad look.
Speaker 3 (33:26):
Yes, yes, especially Russell Crowe as in recent recent times.
So I mean he was he was great as Hiccup's
dad in this one. He looked looked the part. I mean,
he felt like the live action version brought to life
a lot of a lot of the characters, and especially
the dragons. They all feel like tangible real life.
Speaker 2 (33:46):
You know.
Speaker 3 (33:46):
Obviously there's a cartoony nature to it, but it's not
over to me, it wasn't overdone. Maybe he could make
that argument for some of the side characters, the kids
that are also training with Hiccup, But for me, it
didn't take me out of it.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
Like it's just it looks good.
Speaker 4 (34:01):
I thought it looked really really beautiful. And they they
they they seem to. Obviously I haven't seen everything, right,
so I'm sure there's lots of really cool sequences. I
haven't seen that, But everything that I've seen from the
trailers and like the little like you know, vignettes, like
it's it seems to be really true, like you said,
to the to the the original design without making it
feel like you know, like you know, like like Roger
(34:24):
Rabbit right where you've got you know, like insanely overly
animated cartoons. Like they did a great job of not
making it look creepy and uncanny valley like Lion King,
still making it feel very like realistic to.
Speaker 2 (34:38):
That world, you know what.
Speaker 4 (34:39):
And honestly, I always love the way the dragon Like
one of my favorite things about that was how different
the dragons in How to Train Your Dragon movies look,
you know.
Speaker 3 (34:47):
What I mean, Yeah, they're very and they're very Let
me think, how to say it like they're just very emotive,
and yeah, they they really brought that to life with
these I mean they look like.
Speaker 4 (34:58):
Cartoony aspect makes it feel.
Speaker 2 (34:59):
More motive, right, you know.
Speaker 3 (35:01):
And I think something that you had said there triggered
to me with the the idea, like I think about
it in terms of video games. You know, when we
talk about video games, there's always the discussion of remaster
or remake, right, like, is this is this game a remaster?
Speaker 2 (35:18):
Is this game a remake?
Speaker 3 (35:19):
And a remake to me is like a built from
the ground up doing it still has maybe the core
of it is the same, but it has maybe some
different systems or different things play out a little differently,
like a Resident Evil to remake where it's it really
like changes things but for the better.
Speaker 1 (35:37):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (35:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (35:39):
Dead Space, Dead Space, that is.
Speaker 4 (35:41):
One of the great and I just recently played it
is the Last of Us Part one remaster, Yeah, and
like it. It still gave me all of the emotional
bits and and incredible feeling that I had playing the
first one, and I probably played that like fifteen times now,
but with all of the all of the beauty and
(36:02):
and also comfort of the better systems in the second.
Speaker 3 (36:06):
And and with this one, it feels I don't know
that it feels like a remake necessarily just because it
moves basically beat for beat like the original one. Okay,
So and you know take that for what you will
like to me, yeah, you know you can get it.
This is where like I've struggled with my thoughts where
(36:27):
it's like it's good, but then I can't just like
my brain can't separate but the larger narrative of live
action remakes and studios and da da da dah. But
for this movie itself, I think it's good. I think
it's it's fine what it does. It's more like to me,
it would be more of a remaster where it's like
a fresh new coat of paint on a story that
that brings it to like.
Speaker 4 (36:48):
Kind of what I get from the from the trailers.
I didn't see anything where they're you know, where they're
adding anything to the story or fixing anything. And you know,
say what you will about rema and remasters. You know,
you can complain until the cows come.
Speaker 2 (37:03):
Home, but it ain't gonna change, you know, exact.
Speaker 4 (37:06):
Hollywood and people always oh they do so many look
back before there were thousands and thousands of movies to remake.
All of your favorite classic movies were based on books
or novella's, like you know, none of these ideas are.
Speaker 2 (37:22):
Truly original, right right right, you know, and so.
Speaker 4 (37:26):
It's like, if we're gonna get remakes and remasters, you know,
at least the quality seem it seems less like cash
grabs with some of these, or at least with with
How to Train Your Dragon. And you know it, you
got to remember the folks who saw How to Train
Your Dragon in twenty ten, right, like you know they
were they were either kids or teenagers, right or in
(37:50):
their late twenties, and like, you know, they didn't. My
nephew was born when the first How to Train Your
Dragon movie came out, you know what I mean, Like,
and so he's never seen it because by the time
he was old enough to be paying attention to stuff,
you know, we had a whole different slew of different
kinds of Pixar movies and animated stuff. So you know,
it turns on a whole generation of new moviegoers and
(38:16):
bring back, you know, the folks like us who have
seen these things a million times and still love them.
And like at the end, of the day. Man, It's like,
you know, if I have to put up with remasters
and sequels and remakes and YadA, YadA YadA, if it
means that like that gives the budget to small, fun,
great new interesting stories like It's how it's Hollywood's always
(38:36):
worked like that Independence Day, you know, bankrolled right, probably
five years worth of really great, smaller movies that nobody
saw until they hit DVD and VHS or VHS really,
which is really dating myself when I really think about that,
you know, but it's just, you know, it's they're just
more right. We don't have four tent poles a year.
(38:57):
We have like ten ten poles. But you know, we're
also in a time where you can make a really
killer flick for next to nothing and it'll get an audience.
You know, someone's gonna see it somewhere, you know, and
ultimately that's all that really matters when it comes to filmmaker.
Speaker 3 (39:11):
Yeah, and that's what I was gonna say with the
remake of It All. It's not inherently a bad thing,
especially for this movie, because again, the story is good,
like it's it's always been a good story. And what
you mentioned about a new generation discovering it. So at
my screening, we were at the Marquis for this screening
and it's good. It's good theater and the you know,
(39:34):
there's the press rows that that that the press have
and then the rest is maybe like fans or you know,
gift winners or whatever the case may be. And so
there's a lot of kids, you know, families that were there,
and there was a wealth of kids that seemed to
really enjoy it. Like there was a kid that was
having the time of his life behind me and as
a kid that based off what I could tell, based
(39:56):
off what he was saying, it's just felt like this
was his first time seeing how to train your dragons.
Speaker 4 (40:01):
So it is great.
Speaker 3 (40:02):
This has an opportunity to tell a new story for
new fans and building.
Speaker 4 (40:07):
Exactly and we have the you know, it's like the
six million dollars man, like, we have the technology, let's
go ahead and build it, you know, why not?
Speaker 3 (40:14):
And there's not and again there's not drastic changes, but
I think that's okay for this one. So I think
it's a great movie. I enjoyed it. I think if
you were taking younger, younger audiences, like whoever you want
to take. It's a good family movie, a good time.
The flying sequences are really well done. The action set pieces,
(40:36):
especially like the last one. If you remember the movie
from twenty ten, you remember kind of how this movie goes,
so you you can kind of expect.
Speaker 4 (40:45):
And beautiful just in all CGIs so.
Speaker 3 (40:47):
Yeah, and now you can only imagine you can now
see it. It's really well done.
Speaker 2 (40:51):
I liked it.
Speaker 3 (40:52):
I don't, you know, I don't think it's a I don't.
I definitely don't think it's a bad movie. It's definitely
one of the better live action remakes.
Speaker 4 (41:01):
And it's dragons, man, he not enjoy dragons like. It's
there's like certain things that I'm always going to show
up for in the theater, Superheroes, it's creepy monsters, aliens
and dragons man, Like, you know, I'm always going to
show up for that.
Speaker 3 (41:18):
And Toothless is one of the best movie dragons, Like,
he's just one such a good dragon.
Speaker 2 (41:24):
Like I love the the you know, he's like a dog.
It really is.
Speaker 3 (41:29):
And it's like this version, obviously it looks very similar
to the twenty ten version, is just now with more detail,
like its just and it works. I liked it, and
I liked where the story goes. Nick Frost, I should
also mention him. He did a good job as as Gobber.
Speaker 2 (41:44):
You know.
Speaker 4 (41:44):
Oh, he's just so great man. He's such a he's
such a fun and animated dude. I'm never I'm never
upset to see Nick Frost's pop up in anything I'm watching.
Speaker 2 (41:54):
No, he nails it.
Speaker 3 (41:56):
And you know, it's a good It's a good movie
for folks that are fans of it or have never
seen it. This is a great entry point to the world.
We're also getting the second movie, I think in twenty
twenty seven, so it's not.
Speaker 4 (42:07):
Oh did they do like a like a back to
back filming.
Speaker 3 (42:10):
They are like during the final bits of production for
this one, they approved and greenlit the second one. So
we're getting How to Train Your Dragon too relatively soon,
So be ready for that.
Speaker 4 (42:22):
Man, that's great. You mean we don't have to pull
an Avatar where it takes us twenty years to see
the entire saga.
Speaker 3 (42:27):
No, yeah, no, probably, you know it's probably gonna happen,
because I do think I fully expect this movie to
do well this weekend and dominate the box office. And
I fully expect that the second one will do the same,
and so I fully expect the third one to come
out like twenty twenty nine.
Speaker 4 (42:43):
Yeah, whatever the hell the third one happens to be about.
Speaker 2 (42:46):
Because one of us can remember.
Speaker 3 (42:47):
I can't remember what it is, but you know it's
it's good. And again the all the different dragons and stuff,
they really nail it.
Speaker 2 (42:53):
So uh yeah, man, I'm really happy to hear that.
Speaker 3 (42:57):
For folks going to the theater, maybe check give that
check out now. If you don't go to the theater,
If you don't want to do that, and you don't,
you know, you're like, I don't need to watch something
with the kids.
Speaker 2 (43:07):
I need to watch something for myself.
Speaker 3 (43:09):
Let us both tell you about Predator Killer of Killers,
which is on Hulu. It premiered last Friday, June sixth,
and while How to Train Your Dragon non spoiler, this
is full spoiler. So if you haven't seen this, tune
away for the next I don't know, twenty minutes or
we're gonna talk spoileriously.
Speaker 4 (43:24):
Tune away like fast.
Speaker 1 (43:26):
Forward spoiler alerc spoiler alert, spoiler alert, you won't die.
Speaker 3 (43:38):
Fast forward away because yeah, we're going to dive into
full spoilers because I've also been like just dying to
talk about this movie because.
Speaker 4 (43:45):
I've been chopping at the bit to talk about it.
Speaker 3 (43:47):
It's I So when Dan Tracktenberg took over, like to
do Prey, and he delivered Chef's Kiss. Yeah, phenomenal movie
that blew me away. And then it was like he's
working on something else. I was like, Okay, what's he
working on? And then it was like, Oh, it's an
animated and a live action that he's been working.
Speaker 2 (44:06):
On, which is nuts wild to me.
Speaker 3 (44:09):
And it's I feel like quietly is the wrong way
to say it, but that's the only thing I can say.
He's quietly made two of the best Predator films.
Speaker 4 (44:19):
And I also quietly released them like Pray just like
showed up on Hulu one day. There was like very little,
very little ad budget for it. And then I remember
one weekend it was like my buddy was like, hey,
you know, there's a new Predator movie, right, and I
was like, oh, did that finally come out? And that
entire weekend it's all anyone on the internet talked about.
(44:42):
Even my friends who were like ruins everything, they were like, Okay,
Prey was incredible, and then Killer Killers I kind of
forgot it was even coming out until you mentioned it,
and then I was like, oh my god. Again, there's
a rare occasion where I've been so busy that like,
I don't know what the hell is going on in
(45:03):
the nerd space. I have not kept up with anything.
I'm just folding shirts and watching Frasier and designing stuff.
Like but man Killer of Killers really just came out
of nowhere, and like, from what I've seen, Dan can
do whatever the hell he wants with this franchise, like
(45:25):
he is he is just he's really taken it to
a level that I never expected it to go, especially
after you know, a lot of a lot of hits
and misses. Now, I'm I'm a diehard Predator fan, right,
you know, the very first time I saw Arnold in
the first one, I was like, this is the greatest
(45:46):
thing I've ever seen in my life. But you know,
Predator too, you know, also great, Right, all the Predator movies,
including the Alien Verse Predator, they all have something really
kick ass to deliver us. Right. You know, I'm a
I'm a low key Nothing about me is low key,
especially I'm a high key fan of Predators, and so
(46:12):
I just really enjoyed at that time seeing more of
that Predator universe and you know all the fun twists that, like,
you know, it turns out these guys are all predators,
and you know the greatest predator of all was frigging
you know, yes, yes, I was blanking on his name
(46:33):
because I was like Eric Foreman, Predator, right, and so
you know I kind of went into Killer of Killers
pretty blind, and so I really really loved that they
kind of brought back the premise of predators and gave
(46:56):
us that like, hey, we're collecting badass warriors to like
fight to the death and then have to fight like
the King predit right, you know what I mean, Like that,
this is what I've been waiting for my whole life.
And like, so you know, I didn't watch many trailers.
I'm I. I used to like consume every single trailer,
(47:18):
but it's gotten so bad where so much is being
given away now, yeah that like I've been I watched
one trailer and that's it. I'm not I try not
to watch any clips. I don't want to see anything
out of context, like you know, if you you know,
if you're making anything like I said, Superheroes aliens, monsters, dragons.
(47:38):
All I need is one trailer.
Speaker 2 (47:39):
That's it, and I'm gonna be there.
Speaker 4 (47:41):
Yeah. And so I went into Predator or A Killer
of Killers with so little information that like, you know,
it opens up with with the Viking Queen and you're like, okay, yeah,
Viking Queen, do this, you know. And what I really
liked is with each with all three of the scenarios,
not only did the predators, I like that we're seeing
(48:03):
more different types of predators because you know, for those
who are like unaware of the predator lore, like there's
a there's a whole society and hierarchy and almost like
a cast system kind of yeah, where you know, there's
like the rulers, the grunts, the people who build the stuff,
you know. Like and so seeing the Viking Queen, it
(48:26):
fight this like big ass predator. Yeah, I mean he's gigantic.
And then you know, I'm a another thing. I'm always
gonna show up for Ninja's in the samurai. Yeah, you
give me anybody with a kick ass costume and a sword,
I'm in. And so to get the ninja and the
(48:47):
samurai bit and like the predator that's fighting that ninja
is also kind of built like a ninja and using
similar weaponry was just insane. Like I, I just I
cannot say more great things about this movie. I will
(49:08):
and I'll ask your opinion on this. What how did
you feel? It's a great bit when you know the
because you've got the the Viking Queen, the Ninja slash
Samurai brothers, and then you've got old boy that's working
in like World War two. Yeah, yes, yeah, yeah yeah,
(49:31):
voiced by my boy Blue Rick Gonzalez, who I He's
one of those voices that, like I always I always
love seeing him pop up in anything. So it was
really really awesome to like see him in this or
hear him, I guess because he's voice acting. But like
the one little bit that kind of annoyed me, but
(49:52):
it was a funny enough bit where I let it slide.
You know, the predators are they're they're like Batman, right,
They love rep time, They do so much research on
their targets and then they give him the damn musket
from Predator to Pray and like you mean to tell me,
y'all y'all went after this dude and didn't realize that
(50:15):
they were definitely using m fours at the time.
Speaker 2 (50:19):
Yeah, they give him the musket, but what a.
Speaker 4 (50:22):
Great bit and what a great callback where he's like,
are you kidding me? And like he doesn't even know
how to load it during the fight, like and that
I really really enjoyed that.
Speaker 3 (50:30):
And that that musket, that musket rifle pistol has been around. Yeah,
that pistol has been around in multiple movies now, seeing
it both in Pray and Predator too, and so it's like,
that's just a cool I think I just took it
as like a cool like connect.
Speaker 2 (50:49):
Yeah, yeah, that was that was as Predator.
Speaker 5 (50:53):
You mean, there's no way he just there's no way
he doesn't know about at least handguns, like give my
man a nineteen eleven, you know what I mean. But
it was it was such a good nod and a
and a great a great little bit of like comedic
relief that like I let it slide. But after I
(51:14):
was thinking about I was like, that's my one.
Speaker 2 (51:16):
Beef with the movie.
Speaker 4 (51:17):
If I only have one beef with the movie, Like
what a what a show?
Speaker 2 (51:22):
I know, like with this movie.
Speaker 3 (51:24):
It it blew me, Like I was excited for it
and I've been looking forward to it and watching the
trailer or whatever. Yeah, and it's a concept that I
I have like experienced via books.
Speaker 2 (51:35):
Like there's a book I think.
Speaker 3 (51:37):
It's called it It It Hunts or It Will It
Takes something.
Speaker 2 (51:42):
I have to look up the name of the book.
Speaker 3 (51:43):
But there's an anthology book that I I, well, I
say read, but I listened to it where it it? Yeah,
thank you, And it takes you through different scenarios like
similar to this, where it's different warriors going up against
the Predator, different groups. There's actually one story in that
anthology that's actually like a sequel to Predator too, it's
(52:07):
taking place years and years later that I've found really interesting.
Like it's a really good Like it's a great book
for fans of Predator.
Speaker 2 (52:15):
I'll look it up here.
Speaker 4 (52:16):
And yeah, there's a lot of lore that that is
not really we're only now starting to see some of
the law and the live action stuff, but there's so
much really cool. Same with Aliens. Honestly, Predator and Aliens
have a lot of lore that didn't exist in most
of the cinematic.
Speaker 3 (52:34):
Universe, especially if you introduce comics and everything, Like there's
a lot of stuff there.
Speaker 2 (52:38):
So it's a Batman.
Speaker 4 (52:40):
The first Predator comic I read was Batman Versus Predator.
Speaker 3 (52:43):
Yeah, that's right, that that was a comed It's a
great comment.
Speaker 4 (52:48):
That I was a kid. I remember picking it up,
you know, and it was during that time where like
parents didn't know anything about comics or anything, and so
like I buy it and there's just like nude scenes
and like blood everywhere, and I'm like, what is this
comic book? I see? Yeah, it's like that's my favorite book,
you know.
Speaker 3 (53:08):
But I liked that anthology approach because it's it's a
similar approach as Prey. It keeps it fresh, but it
keeps it fresh, yeah, feeling.
Speaker 4 (53:17):
Too long, you know, and Pray is short. I mean,
Pray is a tight movie. And that's the way Predator
movies should be. Like, you know, if you give us
a little bit of lower, but we're all here for
the mud covering body moment, right, Like we're always here
for that that fight. And so the anthology I thought
(53:39):
was really good because it's like, you know, how long
can a fight really last?
Speaker 2 (53:43):
Right?
Speaker 4 (53:45):
You know, most of the Predator movies it's Predator killing
new ship out of everybody else and then finally having
a fight with one guy.
Speaker 2 (53:53):
Right right exact.
Speaker 4 (53:55):
Or one woman in this case, you know, and so
like it's it's such a smart way to tell the
story and still give it background and give us everything
we want without having to commit to a ninety minute,
two hour premise every time. I love Pray, right, but
it's it's nice to give us little bits and pieces
(54:19):
and then we can maybe call back to that stuff
and do some more interesting stuff with those characters. And
I loved the connection to Pray where we see her
character in that like you know, in that cryo chamber
and you're like, hold up, how did they get to her? Right?
And now we find out that when you win the battle,
(54:40):
you don't just get to live. No, It's like it's
like it's like when you do really good at your
job and you get punished by getting all of the
work and being charged without getting the pay. It's like,
I beat this horrible monster. I couldn't even see half
of the goddamn fight, and my reward.
Speaker 6 (54:58):
Is I gotta go kill other dudes and other ladies
who killed these monsters so that the biggest monster can
very likely kill the hell out.
Speaker 4 (55:08):
You know, what is the reward if you beat the
King Predator, Like do you get to go home?
Speaker 2 (55:16):
I don't know that you do.
Speaker 4 (55:17):
Can a human be the King Predator? Like? Are you
going to see a bit of a Sona Lathan moment?
Right from Alien Versus?
Speaker 1 (55:27):
Is?
Speaker 4 (55:28):
You know? Is Rick Gonzalez's character gonna put the helmet
on and be like, yeah, bitch, I'm the editor now,
you know? And I love the cliffhanger ending, dude, like, yeah,
they got away, but oh yeah, that's right. He has
no idea how to fly this spaceship. He doesn't even
know what galaxy or universe he's in, right, Like, we
have no idea how far away from Earth he is,
(55:50):
and every ship on this planet is coming to murder
the three of them? What a what are the two
of them?
Speaker 1 (55:57):
Like?
Speaker 4 (55:57):
What a kick ass sequence? You know what I mean?
Speaker 3 (55:59):
Yeah, And I want to go back to what you
were saying about, like the not having to dedicate you know,
two hours to one premise or whatever, because I think
one of the the cool things about doing it in
this way choosing this animation in the animation style, I think.
Speaker 4 (56:16):
I'm a sucker for that, like stop motion ye, Spider Verse, Look,
I love.
Speaker 3 (56:22):
That it's it's it worked really well for this. It
looked good and it lets you, like animation lets you
do things that you just can't necessarily replicate in live action,
and you get to have these cool set pieces and
action sequences that you're you're not going to necessarily be
able to recreate in live action.
Speaker 2 (56:42):
So this is a prime medium kind of gives you the.
Speaker 4 (56:45):
Room to basically make three totally different movies exactly that
the score is different in each one, even though it's
the same animation style, like the you know, the Viking bits,
Like there's these like real beautiful sequences like when they're
on the ship and these like flashbacks you know, in
the Ninja and Samurai sequence, Like it's filmed like a
(57:07):
Kirosawa movie, right, Like you've got the betrayal of a
family member and I'm gonna avenge my family and you know,
and then the the Rick Gonzales bit at the end,
where you know, you get you get that like that
like period piece World War two movie, and it's very
like action driven and feels more modern. Like it's such
a brilliant way to tell these stories and get to
(57:30):
make one movie with a cohesive.
Speaker 2 (57:34):
Vision, right, I'd be very curious.
Speaker 4 (57:36):
It's The one thing I hate about when stuff goes
straight to streaming is like, like I want a DVD.
I want to hear Dan Tracktenberg talking about his process,
and I want to hear what went into this other
than getting you know, snippets of the same five minute
interview that he's given to everybody on the press tour,
you know, Like I it's one thing I really miss
(57:59):
about about media, as those like the director's cuts and
the commentary, Like you don't get that with streaming stuff,
which really sucks. Like I want to get in this
dude's head because I love everything that's come out of it.
Speaker 3 (58:11):
Yeah, it's a I'm glad Dan Tracktenberg has taken reins
of this franchise because it wasn't a going back to
what we were saying earlier. It wasn't a not great
place after the twenty eighteen The Predator movie, and that's
to me. Between that and Requiem are the two that
I I don't enjoy the most.
Speaker 2 (58:31):
Specifically The Predator.
Speaker 3 (58:33):
I struggle with that one just because where it goes
and where it ends up, it's.
Speaker 4 (58:36):
Got bits and pieces that are cool, but it felt
too it felt like they were trying to recapture the
magic of the first one with like soldiers like dicking
around and joking around and stuff, and it like like
I love Key and Michael Key, but come on, man,
I don't think we needed him in a Predator movie.
Speaker 3 (58:58):
Dude, you know, like, yeah, the only the only person.
I have to look it up because I I really
enjoyed his performance in that. In that movie, I think
it's yeah, Travonte Roads, Yeah, Toronto Roads.
Speaker 4 (59:16):
Yeah, there's there are there are good bits in the movie. Yeah,
and again it's it's a predator movie, so I'm always
having a good time when the predators like clicking around
and you know, yeah and stuff.
Speaker 1 (59:26):
You know.
Speaker 3 (59:27):
But Travante was like the star for me in twenty
eighteen's The Predator. He was the bright spot out of everything.
Like everyone's okay, like like you said, Keag and Michael Key,
but it was a struggle. I think it was just
like dialogue, the way that things were worded, the jokes
that were flying.
Speaker 2 (59:43):
Off just didn't work today.
Speaker 3 (59:45):
Uh hang on, let me bring it back up because
that oh it was Shane Black.
Speaker 2 (59:49):
Yeah, that was the other thing. That's right, Yeah, it
was Shane Black.
Speaker 4 (59:51):
It's like, I don't know if Shane I don't know
if he was the right guy to direct it. No,
And I'm a huge Shane Black fan, Like he's made
some of my favorite movies of all time, you know
what I mean, The Nice Guys.
Speaker 3 (01:00:05):
I really liked The Nice Guys when he did that one,
and then of course he did Iron Man three, Like
He's done some stuff that I've enjoyed, but he's just
he just missed the mark with the Predator. And and
maybe that's great, and I've seen the discussion like maybe
it's partially studio interference and all that, which I could
totally see that being part of it as well, but
just the film as a whole just didn't just didn't
(01:00:26):
work for me.
Speaker 4 (01:00:27):
And Shane does his best work when he's got like
a like a tight couple of characters to spend time.
Speaker 2 (01:00:37):
With, you know what I mean, like a guy.
Speaker 4 (01:00:39):
And you can see some of that bits right when
they're like hanging out in the motel like those you know,
those bits of dialogue are great. But like, I'm not
gonna hire Shane for a Predator movie. I'm gonna hire
him for a Kiss Kiss Bank.
Speaker 2 (01:00:52):
Yeah, no exactly, And.
Speaker 4 (01:00:55):
I just don't know if he was anyway, it was
like a weird moment where he was like having a
real hot and Hollywood has that bad habit of like,
well this was successful, let's hire this guy, you know
what I mean.
Speaker 3 (01:01:06):
And he had the connection to the original one because
he was in the original one, so it's like, oh,
there's something there, and then it didn't end up being
the case. Yes, And that's partially why Pray went straight
to streaming. Was the Predator franchise kind of was had
a low and Dan Tracktenberg has really breathed new Lifeli.
Speaker 4 (01:01:23):
I gotta say them shooting it straight to Hulu was
a really smart move, I think because it allowed it
to just like breathe and find the audience and you know,
like we were, you know, we were still all kind
of really at home at the time, and so it
was like, you know, and on top of that, so
(01:01:45):
I think it was a good way for them to
be like, look, it might be Disney making it, but
we're still gonna give you some kick ass, bloody movies,
and like, don't forget that Disney also owns Hulu, right, Yeah,
so it was it was a good kind of test
run to bring the franchise is back and test out
doing or not test out, but to prove to folks that, like, hey, like,
(01:02:07):
don't forget that Disney produced all kinds of other movies
before we just had Disney plus you know, like and
so I think it was a good I think it
was a good step in the right direction to to
like give people a soft entry back into the Predator
franchise and bring a lot of folks in because I
know a lot of folks that watch it just because
(01:02:27):
it looked like a like a spooky Native American movie,
you know, who were really interested in those kinds of
stories being told, and then they're like, oh shit, this
is a Predator movie. Like you know it was. It
was smart to kind of subvert it with a different
you know, not being like Predator prey right to be like, hey,
you want you want to watch this cool, spooky kind
of movie. Wear this like really badass Native American woman
(01:02:51):
like fight some monster. Oh it's also a.
Speaker 2 (01:02:53):
Predator movie, you know, Like it was.
Speaker 4 (01:02:56):
It was a really good way to to kind of
put some some good uh some good, some goodwill towards
the fans there we go.
Speaker 3 (01:03:05):
Yeah, no, for sure, And I love that he's been
able to tell these different stories in this new universe
with Prey and now with Predator, Killer of killers.
Speaker 4 (01:03:14):
Now even more excited for his.
Speaker 3 (01:03:16):
Next, exactly Predator bad Lands. I'm I can't wait for
after seeing this one.
Speaker 4 (01:03:20):
Do we know what exactly the concept is just yet?
Because he's been very quiet about what they're working on.
Speaker 2 (01:03:27):
So have you seen the trailer.
Speaker 4 (01:03:31):
For bad Lands?
Speaker 2 (01:03:31):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:03:33):
I guess not. When did it come out? Uh?
Speaker 2 (01:03:36):
Like a two like a month or two ago? I think?
Speaker 3 (01:03:39):
Really, yeah, yeah, you've been You've been working so hard
you haven't seen it.
Speaker 4 (01:03:43):
I guess so, man, I'm really slapped. My nerd credit
is just slowly going down and down here. But I'm
so uninformed right now.
Speaker 2 (01:03:50):
The core concept is we're following a predator.
Speaker 4 (01:03:54):
Oh wait, yes, I'm sorry protagical.
Speaker 2 (01:03:56):
Yes, because I.
Speaker 4 (01:03:57):
Was making fun of the people freaking out about the
new predator.
Speaker 2 (01:04:01):
Look, yeah, because sorry, you're good. You're good.
Speaker 3 (01:04:05):
It's like I'm just in a constant brain farm.
Speaker 4 (01:04:08):
But no, bad Lands looks really cool, and it's I
like that we're kind of seeing like a smaller, a
smaller young predator like out to prove himself, right, because
it's you always see the Predator when they're like the
Ultimate Warrior, and it's like, well, I want to see
it's it's I guess, not an origin story, right, but
(01:04:31):
a Predator's origin stories, so you get the general origin
story of them. And anytime we're on the Predator planet,
count me.
Speaker 2 (01:04:39):
And like.
Speaker 4 (01:04:41):
The tech is so cool and creepy and dark and
it feels very like eighties retro futuristic and that that's
my jam, Like I cannot wait for that that intergalactic movie.
Speaker 2 (01:04:53):
That's that's the thing about the game to come out, Like, yeah, I.
Speaker 4 (01:04:55):
Loves me some some some some futuristic retro stuff.
Speaker 2 (01:04:58):
That's the thing about this movie.
Speaker 3 (01:05:00):
Uh, you know, going into it, I was expecting just anthology,
you know, and then I had heard yeah, yeah, and
so I was like expecting just three stories and you know,
we'll get movement or whatever. And then you know, watching
the first story, Ursa, you're following her the Viking, and
everything plays out as it does.
Speaker 2 (01:05:20):
Great you know, great story as well.
Speaker 3 (01:05:24):
Kill Yeah, and and with Ursa, like you know, she
has that moment where she's like looking at her kid
and she's you know, sad her son passed away or
died in this battle and everything, and then everything disappears
and then it's like, oh, she's on a ship right now.
Oh then it's like, oh, what are we doing here?
(01:05:44):
And it really like it was it already hooked me in,
but then it hooked me in even more at that point, yes,
and then as.
Speaker 4 (01:05:50):
It's like for me, I thought for a second before
I realized what they were going for, I was like, Oh,
is this is this old boy that she came to kill? Like, yeah, yeah,
he's such a good warrior that they picked him instead.
It's an.
Speaker 3 (01:06:07):
And the beauty of that second story is there's like
literally almost no dialogue. It's just all told visually, and
I love that about it.
Speaker 4 (01:06:16):
And it's gorgeous. It's absolutely gorgeous.
Speaker 3 (01:06:21):
The screenshots from that, like I just want all those
screenshots as backgrounds for everything, especially the predators.
Speaker 4 (01:06:27):
Literally after watching it, I was like, what artists can
I hire to help me come up with a Ninja
versus predator?
Speaker 2 (01:06:34):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:06:34):
Right, like exactly, Like there's that that one scene where
the predator I think we mentioned it earlier where the
predators on the roof like just so so sick with
the moon behind him and everything, like it's so cool.
Speaker 4 (01:06:47):
It felt like like a scene right out of Ninja Scroll,
you know what I mean. It had that like dark Moody,
which is obviously is part of the Predator franchise, but
in a very different way. Like it felt really true
to like the Ninja story, and like even the Predators,
like armor is very it's much sleeker, way less bulky.
(01:07:07):
He's less bulky. He's much skinnier, you know. His his
mask almost kind of has a like a shredder look
to it. Just just absolutely gorgeous. Man. Like the the
the character designed, the pardon me, the art style, all
of it was just absolutely perfect.
Speaker 1 (01:07:28):
Man.
Speaker 4 (01:07:28):
I loved it.
Speaker 3 (01:07:28):
And I like that, like each Predator obviously feels distinct
in certain ways, Like the Behemoths was just a big
hitter and as soon as he sees the Viking, Hellboy
hell Boy is like fist.
Speaker 4 (01:07:43):
I forget that the character that hell Boy fights with
that with that fist thing. It's in hell Boy too.
Speaker 3 (01:07:49):
But you probably know what I'm talking Oh yeah, yeah, yeah,
I know you're talking about.
Speaker 4 (01:07:52):
Yeah, I always forget that character's name. But like it felt,
really it felt really true to all of the different
which that is how right they're not gonna just choose
any old predator, right, like they're they're gonna and all
of the predators that we've seen until Prey, most of
them they've all been in modern times, right, so they're
just using guns and bombs, and like to see like
(01:08:16):
the Ninja Predator using you know, almost the exact same
weapon that the Ninja himself keep forgetting the character's name,
but like he's using the exact same a predator version
of the exact same weapon, And I just played Assassin's Creed,
so the name should be fresh in my mind, but
(01:08:36):
I cannot remember the name of the weapon. But like
it was just really cool to to to see that,
you know what I mean. And even in the in
the World War two sequence like where you know, it's
the first time we see a predator in like an
air battle like that kicked ass It felt like like
an X Wing sequence in Star Wars, you know what
I mean, Like, yeah, cool.
Speaker 3 (01:08:55):
I liked how each one just feels distinct and has
their own method in a beautiful way, you know, and
has their own method for hunting with like you said,
the Pilot one, you had the Ninja one where the
Ninja one, I liked his approach where he was just
watching everything play out and waited till there was a
definitive winner from the The Ninja obviously winning I forget
(01:09:19):
his name, and you know, then.
Speaker 4 (01:09:21):
That twist where his brother is still alive kill him
together like and then like that beautiful moment where he
tells him like I'm always with you, and then just
like drops dead in the most like Kirasawa ass ways.
Speaker 2 (01:09:35):
Possibly extremely yeah, very.
Speaker 4 (01:09:38):
Dramatic, you know, but also like sweet and loving, you know,
like you I cannot sing.
Speaker 3 (01:09:45):
And what's funny is like I was watching when I
was watching it, you know, and like I said, I
was expecting anthology and then I see, oh, they're actually
in the ship, and you know, in between each story
that's happening. And so when we get to the last
story and torres and you know, he gets taken in
everything thing, I'm figuring, Okay, that's we're about to wrap up,
and that's where this movie is gonna end. No, No,
(01:10:06):
there's like another like fifteen twenty minutes. I'm like, oh,
this is where we're doing, and it just went to
a whole other level where we actually being on the planet,
like you said earlier, just being on the Predator planet,
which is something we don't We've seen maybe in comics
and books, but we haven't seen on screen like this, I.
Speaker 4 (01:10:23):
Think in The Predator.
Speaker 2 (01:10:25):
Yeah, yeah, that's it.
Speaker 3 (01:10:26):
But that's yeah, it's really we don't in live action
terms or animated term, we haven't really seen that yet.
And so that was so cool to experience that world
because there is a wealth of lore. There's a wealth
like you mentioned of cast systems and stuff. There's a
YouTube video that I watched this a while ago, but
it like broke down all the different types of predators
(01:10:46):
and there's like so many different types.
Speaker 4 (01:10:48):
Oh, there's so many. There's so many, all the different
animals that they have. Yeah, and I really thought, I
think it's I think one of the things I really
like most about it as well is it's it's similar
to the MCU movies, where like, if you've seen it,
bad Lands is gonna make a lot more sense. Yeah,
but you don't need to have seen it in order
(01:11:11):
for bad Lands to make sense. But it's like it's
such a great stepping stone into bad Lands. And I'll
be curious to see if those are connected at all,
Like will we see Old Girl from Prey in bad Land.
It's like that tease wasn't for nothing. That wasn't just
like a we're god. I mean she was like I know, hardcore,
(01:11:34):
like whiny nerds that hate everything new, and they all
have massive amounts of respect for Prey and that main character.
So like, there's no way we don't see her again,
you know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (01:11:48):
Yeah, that's the actress's name.
Speaker 4 (01:11:50):
She's so goddamn town.
Speaker 3 (01:11:51):
Amber mid Thunder. She's great, she's great, and she rules. Man,
she's so good. And and that's the other thing that
this movie, introducing that concept of well, when you beat
the predator, they actually will kidnap you and keep you
in cryogenics.
Speaker 4 (01:12:10):
That you died.
Speaker 3 (01:12:11):
Yeah, but it now it now sets up a wealth
of possibilities in terms of bringing characters in and out
or connecting things and.
Speaker 4 (01:12:20):
Who else is back? Did he go back?
Speaker 2 (01:12:22):
For Arnold?
Speaker 4 (01:12:24):
I do not want to see seventy something.
Speaker 2 (01:12:26):
Year old, if anything.
Speaker 4 (01:12:29):
An animated form. They do another animated form, and we
just happened to pass over Arnold with the jungle you know,
Camo makeup. I will lose my mind, but I do
not want to see old ass Arnold. Yeah, and I
don't think Arnold has any interest in doing any of
(01:12:50):
that stuff anymore.
Speaker 3 (01:12:52):
Yeah, he shut that down because I think they approached
him for The Predator and he shut it down.
Speaker 2 (01:12:56):
He didn't, and I'm glad they did.
Speaker 3 (01:12:58):
And I want to yeah, and I want to say
it was because of the script, Like he read the
script and it was like, I don't I'm not feeling it,
like that's not me.
Speaker 2 (01:13:04):
I'm not gonna do it or whatever it was.
Speaker 3 (01:13:06):
But if if we open the door to a live
or excuse me, an animated version where we get to
see Namru and him in Dutch, you know, like interacting
or whatever like that would be cool.
Speaker 4 (01:13:20):
No problem with him coming back to voice it. If
it's animated.
Speaker 2 (01:13:22):
Yea, it cannot be.
Speaker 4 (01:13:25):
We don't have the technology to unwrinkle Arnold's face anymore.
Speaker 2 (01:13:30):
It's too far.
Speaker 4 (01:13:30):
Gone, you know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (01:13:32):
The aging.
Speaker 3 (01:13:32):
The aging can only do so much. It doesn't help
with your movement and all that. Like it's exactly watch
Watch Watch the Irishman, and you'll see what I mean
with Robert de Niro and all that like that. That's
the whole thing was Watch.
Speaker 2 (01:13:47):
It's a good movie. It's just it's just their old movie.
Speaker 4 (01:13:50):
But it doesn't. It's like you are old and you
move like an old person. I don't believe you when
your son thirty.
Speaker 2 (01:14:01):
No, exactly.
Speaker 3 (01:14:02):
So that's why we don't need necessarily a live action
Arnold or a live action Danny Glow.
Speaker 4 (01:14:07):
Give me an animated Arnold any day.
Speaker 3 (01:14:09):
Yeah, and and not to say that, and not to
say that we need that either or like we could
just have it happen.
Speaker 2 (01:14:16):
Yeah. Yeah, if it happens, it's cool. But like if
it's just thund I.
Speaker 4 (01:14:22):
One thousand need her to come back, and I kind
of want it would be really cool if if we
get a few movies, right, we're with all these different
warriors and then like she's the badass who like helps
like lead the humans to get off the predator, you
know what I mean, like like bring it full circle
(01:14:44):
with her. That would rule.
Speaker 3 (01:14:46):
And I wonder if that's what we what Dan Tracktenberg
is maybe setting up for the future, because like you said,
you don't just put Nauru at the end of that
without having something planned in the future. I feel like
and leaving Earth's with the predators because I thought she
was going to die, you know, when she's going back
to to to say, to get the ship unlatched. I
(01:15:07):
thought she was going to die. Of course they grab
her and and they they hold her. I yeah, put
her back on ice.
Speaker 4 (01:15:13):
Like, hey, you beat us, man, Like, do you'll have
any any respect you're these like like like like forever
Warriors who've been, you know, doing battle for millennia and
like no code of.
Speaker 3 (01:15:31):
Honor, certain ones, certain ones, no code of certain ones,
certain ones, sore losers. I'll just say a certain ones.
So but there's like I think that's like some of
the I don't know, I could go on about the
predator like mystique of it all, but like that's that's
such a cool thing to have her back there, because
now that does open the possibility for like an ursa
(01:15:54):
Nauru to meet up and them like possibly trying to
escape at some point. Whether it's gonna animate or if
you want to do that. I don't know if they
would change that to live action or whatever, but animator
or live action, as long as Dan Trachtenberg's attached to it,
I'm in. And I I was already in for bad Lands,
but this just made me even more in, just because
(01:16:14):
like I'm.
Speaker 4 (01:16:14):
So hyped for bad lands after seeing Killer of Killers.
Speaker 3 (01:16:17):
Like he understands it. He just understands it such.
Speaker 4 (01:16:21):
In a way that a lot of folks don't like.
And and you know, I think like it's one of
those things where it's like you have to you have
to let you have to let that person finish out
their vision, you know what I mean, Like, and it's working.
So let's not hire somebody else looking at you, Incredibles
(01:16:44):
Free or the Rise of Skywalker, like, let's let's not
hire someone to change it. Let's just let this dude
finish out his vision.
Speaker 2 (01:16:55):
Like yeah as a kid, you know, just put him.
Speaker 4 (01:17:02):
In the kitchen and give him a truckload of money
and just come back when he's done.
Speaker 3 (01:17:07):
Yeah, no, exactly, just do that because he's really he's
really brought us.
Speaker 4 (01:17:14):
Is gonna be the real test, because it is. You know,
The Prey was a very small movie, right in terms
of characters, and even that he did do a lot
with such a small you know, budget and cast. You know,
Killer Killers is like, okay, you gave us the second movie, right,
and you know this is your Spider Man too, right,
(01:17:36):
Like you took everything that you did great in the
first one, and we improved it. Are we gonna get
a Black Suits Spider Man? He dances like an emo
dork to old sixties funk songs like or are we
gonna you know, are you gonna give us you know,
what's a what's a great third movie? And are you
(01:17:57):
gonna give us Guardians three?
Speaker 2 (01:17:59):
Right? Right?
Speaker 4 (01:17:59):
Are you gonna give us something that like really rounds
it out? And I think that's gonna be the test,
because this is this is the big you know, directors
can be made or broken by getting a big budget sequel.
So I'll be real interested to see what exactly he
does with with free reign.
Speaker 3 (01:18:21):
On something like that, and a true test, a true
test in terms of concept, right, because this is a
concept that we've never seen for a Predator movie, Like
it's always been the predator versus a human warrior, and
we figure it out from there for the most part.
Obviously Predators kind of the changes it, and then Alien
versus Predators changes it a little bit. But like, this
(01:18:42):
is a concept that I've always wanted and to have
the protagonist be the Predator for a change and have
an android with them, of all things.
Speaker 2 (01:18:52):
That was that That.
Speaker 4 (01:18:54):
Is very very interesting, man.
Speaker 2 (01:18:56):
That is a wild twist to it all.
Speaker 4 (01:19:00):
I really, you know, the a VP story, even if
the movies were handled interestingly, the a VP story is
it's a natural fit, right these these perfectly engineered monsters
versus these perfectly self engineered sentient aliens right like in
(01:19:25):
this like Warrior Race who literally like build themselves up
in order to be the greatest killers of all time. Like,
it's a no brainer that the that those two universes.
But I think what he's doing here where he's like
slowly connecting the Alien universe with little bits and pieces,
(01:19:46):
you know, it makes me really interested to see the
future of both the Predator franchise now that they're sharing
this universe and the Alien franchise. Because Romulus was straight fire,
you know what I mean, it's.
Speaker 2 (01:20:00):
In a good spot. We got Alien Earth coming later
this year.
Speaker 4 (01:20:03):
Like it's I'm so I don't care what the nerds
say about quote Cannon, Like the canon from the comics
and the books, shit don't exist. You you got to
treat it like like Legends and Star Wars. You know,
if they're telling you this is the canon, then yeah,
they're gonna end up on Earth in the future.
Speaker 2 (01:20:22):
You know what I very curious to see what that is.
Speaker 3 (01:20:25):
We're gonna have to wrap up here in a second,
but I do want to get you out on this.
Is there a story or time period or something that
you would like to see, whether an animator or live
action for the Predator in a future installment by Dan Trachtenberg, Like,
is there anything like another like Historic Warrior or time
period that you'd like?
Speaker 4 (01:20:46):
I mean, it really sucks because they gave me everything
I've always wanted. I wanted to see a Ninja versus Predator. So,
like the only thing I'm upset about about Killer of Killers,
other than the gun moment, is that I didn't get
I want to two hours of a Ninja versus Predator, Right, Yeah,
that's my favorite. Like, give me, give me a Ninja
(01:21:07):
guid in bloody style Ninja versus Predator, and that's all
I want. So I've technically gotten it, you know I
would I I. I mean, that's that's always been my
my go to time period. So you know, either we
revisit that or just you know, I'll just keep watching
(01:21:28):
that one sequence and Killer Killers over and over again.
Speaker 2 (01:21:31):
Right I.
Speaker 3 (01:21:32):
I've seen this a lot online and I kind of
I like this thought a lot, and I would like
to see something but the Wolf Predator from I think
It's Requiem. While the movie is not the best movie,
that Predator is really cool, badass.
Speaker 2 (01:21:48):
I would like to.
Speaker 3 (01:21:48):
See a Wolf Predator animated something and see, Okay that
I could.
Speaker 4 (01:21:53):
I could, definitely, I could get to make it even
more monstery.
Speaker 3 (01:21:56):
Yeah, something in the background of like maybe the wolf
Predator going to a maybe an alien planet and tracking
something or doing something different like some other animals.
Speaker 2 (01:22:04):
Yeah, like just seeing that.
Speaker 4 (01:22:06):
Or maybe even him hunting down xenomorph.
Speaker 3 (01:22:08):
Yeah, the xenomor something like. I think that would be
a really cool thing. And then I do want to
quickly shout out Jody on threads, who was like, who
mentioned who mentioned me on on threads about about Predator,
Killer of Killers, And She's like, I'm eleven minutes in
and this movie already deserves all the critical love it's receiving.
(01:22:29):
I've had zero interest in this franchise and didn't even
know this existed until a few days ago, fing gnarly.
Speaker 4 (01:22:36):
And my wife does not care about Predator movies. She's
a hard core alien fan. She's not giving damn about
Predator movies. She happened to. She did that thing where
she like walked into the room while I was watching
it and then suddenly, like slowly slowly sat down watching
and then all of a sudden, she's like, this is cool.
And then when an indust secret started, she was like,
oh my god, this is all of your dreams are
coming true, you know. And she really enjoyed pray, so, you.
Speaker 3 (01:22:59):
Know, and I want to shout out Jody because we
also talked briefly about uh Jong seeing it, and she
was like, he seriously he needs to because it's awesome.
Speaker 2 (01:23:09):
It's masterful, is what she said. So shadow hear what
he thinks about it.
Speaker 4 (01:23:13):
Hopefully on the next pot if y'all don't hopefully, you
guys dedicate a little time for John to get his
thoughts out.
Speaker 3 (01:23:19):
For sure, we got to talk about I talk about
predator killer killers at any day, at any moment.
Speaker 4 (01:23:24):
But yeah, come by the booth and you and I
will talk about it for like an hour.
Speaker 2 (01:23:27):
Yeah, I won't do my job or sell.
Speaker 4 (01:23:28):
Sure, it's like I supposed to.
