Speaker 1 (00:04):
Welcome to Communication Connection
Community the podcaster'spodcast.
This podcast takes a deep diveinto modern day communication
strategies in the podcastingspace.
We chat with interesting peoplewho make the podcasting and
speaking spaces exciting andvibrant.
We also dive into thepodcasting community with news

(00:24):
updates, latest trends andtopics from this ever-evolving
space.
So strap in, it's going to beone amazing ride.
Let's dive into today's episode,and today I want to ask you a
question.
Maybe a couple of questions, but the main question I want to
ask you today is why are youpodcasting?
What is the why behind youdecided to start your podcast?

(00:49):
Was it to generate morequalified leads for your
business?
Was it to get more clients?
Was it to share your passionproject?
Was it to expand on your hobby?
Or was it none of that?
Was it just something that youwanted to do for fun?
But what is the why behind whyyou decided to start your

(01:11):
podcast and, taking it a stepfurther, what's the goal that
you have?
When you came to podcasting, you probably had a goal, and if
you didn't have, now's the timeto start thinking about it.
What is the goal you want fromyour show?
What is the outcome you wantfrom your show?
The reason I'm asking thesequestions is we have a number of

(01:34):
people who come to our businesshere at Podcast Solutions Made
Simple, and one of the firstthings we ask them is why do you
want to start a podcast?
What's your goal?
What's the outcome you hope toachieve?
And then, of course, we diveinto things like what's your
show going to be about?
What format do you think yourshow will take?
How much time will you have toput into your show?

(01:57):
What investment do you have forthis?
Do you have a dollar amount inmind that you can spend on
putting a show together?
These are all relevantquestions that should come up,
and if they didn't come up foryou when you started your show,
that's quite understandable, because for some people they
don't.
But certainly if you want toexpand your show or level up

(02:20):
your show, these are questionsthat you really need to start
looking at.
So I'm asking you now what isyour why?
Why is it that you wanted tostart your podcast?
I can say for me, when I startedmy first podcast, speaking of
Speaking, which is now mergedinto this podcast when I started
Speaking of Speaking, I alreadyhad a business, albeit a

(02:40):
part-time business, as a speakertrainer and I knew that I
wanted to get the word out thereabout what it is that I do.
And a podcast made sense.
It totally made sense.
I realized and it took me awhile, by the way, but I did
realize, after about four orfive years of exploring and
people telling me I should havea podcast, that, yeah, this is a

(03:02):
great fit, because a podcast,at the end of the day it is.
In my opinion, it's a stage.
It's a virtual stage, it's aspeaking opportunity and it's a
great way to share yourexpertise.
It's a great way to share yourintellectual property and now,
as I've expanded my businessinto the podcasting space, it's

(03:24):
become a great place to grow myexpertise.
It's been a great place to putmy knowledge out there.
It's also been a great place toconnect with other people and
have real, authenticconversations and to share those
conversations with you.
I mean, that's why I haveguests on my show and I bring
those guests on who havesomething to say, but not just

(03:46):
anything to say.
I'm very careful in vetting myguests so that the guests who
are joining me on the show theyhave something to say about
their podcasting journey ortheir speaking journey or their
business or leadership journey.
It's all connected aroundcommunication and leadership,
even though the podcast nowisn't just about communication.

(04:07):
The podcast now isn't justabout communication.
It is centered a lot withcontent creation and podcasting,
of course, but it is aroundbasically communication.
So what is your why?
I want you to just take amoment and write, jot down a
couple of ideas, if you haven'talready sorted this out.
Jot down why you started yourpodcast, what your goal was and

(04:29):
maybe even what's changed foryou.
What's your goal moving forward?
Is your goal to grow a big show?
Is your goal maybe to just staythe course and keep doing what
you're doing?
Is your goal to take what was,or what is now your audio-only
podcast and turn it into anaudio and video podcast with
transcription?
Is your goal to get a guest onmore shows?

(04:51):
If you haven't been guesting onshows, what is the why that you
want to address and how do youwant to see?
You know, if we were to gazeinto a crystal ball, how do you
want to see yourself and yourshow or your podcasting
experience, say, six months to ayear from now?

(05:11):
And, by the way, if you arejust guesting on shows right now
, that's phenomenal and Icommend you for doing that.
A lot of people don't even takethat time to guest on podcasts.
It's a phenomenal way to getyour feet wet into the
podcasting space.
But where do you see yourselfsix months from now, if you are
a guest?
Do you see yourself as havingyour own show?
I mean, that's where the not toturn this into a money

(05:33):
statement, but it is.
It really is where the money'sat, especially if you're looking
at leveraging a podcast toelevate your credibility and
your brand and your business.
If you set it up correctly, there's some amazing
opportunities there, and if youpartner with people or have
joint ventures with people whoshare similar interests to you,
then there's some amazingopportunities there too.

(05:54):
But take a moment to jot downyour why.
Where you want to be, say, sixmonths or a year from now.
And now I want you to lookahead even further than that.
Where do you see yourself, say,two years from now, with this
podcast or this podcast guestingthat you're doing?
Do you see it as somethingyou're still doing?

(06:14):
Do you see it as somethingyou're hanging up?
Because one of the challengeswe're seeing in the podcasting
space is a lot of pod fade, andpart of that is because when
people come to podcasting forthe first time, they don't
understand their why.
They don't understand the timecommitment.
They don't understand that it'snot a get rich quick scheme,

(06:34):
right, you don't get rich, youdon't get rich quick from
podcasting.
And it's also not a sprint, itis a marathon.
It's a long game, not a shortgame.
So I want you to think aboutthose things.
I want you to jot down someideas and, with some of the
upcoming episodes that I'll besharing with you solo episodes,
but also guests is about some ofthose inner things that we

(06:57):
maybe don't think about when wefirst set up our show and that
we maybe need to go to thedrawing board every six months
to a year and say, yeah, what isthis podcast still working for
me?
Should I be making some changes?
Should I be investing in aneditor, such as podcast
solutions made simple?
Should I be changing the format?
Should I be?
Should I be joint venturingwith people?

(07:17):
These are all questions to ask.
Should I be doing a podcastingco-op where I'm bringing in
other partners to put together amagazine style show?
Should I stay the course?
Should I go from guesting tohaving my own show?
So I want you to think aboutthat, and then we'll be chatting
with some great people, as Isaid, in the coming weeks, and
then we'll be talking about theopposite of this question is why

(07:38):
are you not podcasting?
If you were podcasting, why didyou stop?
If you haven't podcasted yet,if you haven't started a show
yet, what's holding you back?
And we're going to go beyondthe five myths that I've talked
about on this show several times.
So I'm hoping that this hasopened up your mind a little bit
and gotten you to think alittle bit more about not just

(07:58):
podcasting, but you and yourbigger.
Why for podcasting?
Maybe even your bigger?
Why for business?
Maybe even your bigger?
Why for podcasting?
Maybe even your bigger?
Why for business?
Maybe even your bigger?
Why for your life in general?
